gonna add on that when I worked in a small shelter (it was a few cages in a petsmart, the cats were supplied by a larger shelter, this was to improve their chances of adoption) we had a sign that was VERY CLEAR, not to bring your dog up to the glass. Because it’s gonna scare the cats, and they have nowhere to go or hide from the window, so they would take out their fear in the form of aggression towards me or other cats. I cannot fucking overstate how many dog people BLATANTLY ignored that sign and brought their dog right up to the glass. “I want to see how they get along!” “Look how funny it is, they’re all confused!” And they’d laugh at the cat’s reactions. I don’t hate dogs but if you own a dog be a responsible fucking owner, I wanted to go out there and beat the shit out of them. Have respect for animals other than your dogs.
We gotta do something about the way dog owners behave. No other pet owner is just bringin the pet wherever the fuck they go all the time but for some reason with dog owners they think its fine if they bring their dog to the gym and taco bell and whatever. And you invite a dog owner to your house where youve got your own pets youve got your dog and your cats and whatever it is you have and this dog owner shows up at your door like "oh i brought my dog i hope thats okay hes so sweet youll love him" and it is always the most untrained poorly behaved agressive animal that has ever lived. And we all have to pretend like its acceptable behaviour well im sick of it

Holy shit your like the second (or third) person that I have found who likes “bottom” Yuu. I once posted something that implied that and I got so much hate for it like seriously. Theres such a stereotype that those who think Yuu receives, think of him as super weak, very submissive, and like “uwu fuc me daddy plz use me” which is NOT how I view him. Just because one may think someone in a dynamic would receive does not automatically make them like that, because that’s not how all bottoms are 🙄
you’re so fucking right and you’ve unleashed my ranting time.
the funny thing is people always get praised for loving bottom mika, if you mention bottom mika you get 48472848 reblogs and people slamming mf same op ur great and amazing
but if you breathe bottom yuu, you get people down ur fucking throat and receive massive backlash and tiny gremlins hijacking your posts or get vagued incredibly or anon hate even
i got fucking asks all the time saying how yuu is a top in my inbox and all sorts of rude shit for simply STAYING IN MY LANE. i had yuu is a bottom in my bio and people hated that. i made ONE post, which AVOIDED THE MAIN TAGS AND I POSTED ON MY OWN ACCOUNT, which caused people to vague me and i received shit for it. i have never once sent anon hate to someone else who thought _ bottomed or topped.
and people claim the people who like bottom yuu are toxic and negative. now, not everyone is like this, but youd be surprised at how fucking poor the y///uumika side of the fandom has treated me and how much they ruined y///uumika for me. its not just that which made y///uumika unappealing, theres many different factors in which i wont get into
its so funny because you cant have a different fucking opinion that harms no one in this fandom and its disgusting. thanks, i hate it
the same people who preach “no more ship wars” are creating them. and certain people who hate seme/uke shit and how “yuu is always an uke” “progressive” also make mika an incredible uke! how fucking funny is that
sorry rant time over
idc if you like top mika or top yuu or whatever. i dont fucking care. i just wish these people didnt fucking care about me and my shit so much and minded their damn business
i look at their characters too. i have many reasons why i believe mika is a top and yuu is a bottom. am i shoving it down peoples throat? fuckin naw i got better things to do
and idc if i get anon hate. id rather get it than someone else bc i can handle it. just direct that negativity towards me. its all good fam

Yo dude I'm the larrie anon from yesterday or the day before and i honestly didn't know they were making such jokes :/ that's really out of like yeah,, but hijacking a lighthearted post that really isnt harming anyone is really petty like even most larries don't take those theories seriously
Okay like nothing larries like OP do or say is lighthearted like at this point I’m just so done with any and all theories even if they seem “lighthearted” and being petty is like …. the bottom of the barrel mean spirited like I see larries make posts that none of us touch but like dragging Sarah and Clare into something they didn’t ask for yeah I’m Over It I’ve been over it tbh and if that means I come off as petty or mean or not caring about somebody else commenting on a post then okay that’s that like I’m sorry u feel that way about this all and I acknowledge ur perspective it’s just I really don’t care compared to the bigger picture

@destielyurii oh my god your tags are gonna make me insane HOW HAVE I NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT RODNEY MAKING HIS OWN CAT FOOD
oh my god he so would he would get so into it and get so mad when he learns that most vets in canada aren't trained in pet nutrition so he starts researching it and then finds out that most pet food is garbage(bc this was the late 90s/early 2000s) but feeding actual raw food would be way too gross (sorry there is no way rodney is dealing with regularly having raw organ meat sitting around his house) BUT raw is best right?
so he just. makes his own kibble. has a little cat specific scale in his kitchen for measuring. someone has to come over for some reason and they see all these bags of things and measuring scales and they're like rodney when did you get into chemistry and he's like oh that's for formulating my cats food, i gotta make sure he's getting all the proper nutrients and such
guys i'm gonna go insane about this
What do you think McKay named his cat?
As I'm revisiting my SGA notes, I noticed I never ended up settling on a name for his cat, so... thoughts? Do you think it would be a science or sci-fi reference? Or just a random name?
#sorry to hijack ur post op#but i think this is equally as important as his cats name#i can just imagine tiny baby 11 year old rodney#getting certified in pet nutrition bc he got his first cat and is mad the vets don't know stuff#tell me i'm wrong. that's right you can't this is canon to me now#does rodney hate chemistry? yes. is that going to stop me from believing this? no 🩷#rodney mckay#rodney's cat#headcanons#sga#stargate atlantis

Gosh this resonated with me so much. For several years I made so much art with the intent of "getting noticed" in the furry fandom. And later on, to be marketable at cons.
I spent hours every day on social media, trying to figure out what to draw that will get me the attention I craved. I watched my post stats on Twitter obsessively, trying to increase engagement.
I burnt myself out so bad that it has now been about 6 months since I've drawn anything. At first I beat myself up every day because I wasn't creating or being productive, and it took me so long to see that it was that exact mindset that was preventing me from wanting to make art.
The last few months I've been making an intentional effort to not even think about digital art or furry art specifically. In fact, I've gotten more into embroidery lately and been greatly enjoying it.
I don't know if I'll ever regain the same excitement I used to have for the furry fandom, and im at peace with that. 2024 has been the year of rest, self care and introspection that I clearly desperately needed. Maybe one day you'll catch me around a con again, especially if I get my wish to move to Pittsburgh since Anthrocon is still my fave.
In the meantime I'll just keep on doing some fun embroidery, taking care of myself mentally and physically, and letting my other fandoms bring me joy (Persona 💙💛❤️).
Since the beginning of my art-journey I only ever did art to post it online, and i feel like it's time to let go of that and work a bit more in private, to only share what i actually really like and not just ANYTHING i happen to make. In the last few years, i think, it developed that artists feel pressured to share more and more art to keep up with social media and I'm tired of it. Because of that, i also privated all my older art (besides a few). And go for a bit of a break with sharing new work. (I may keep sharing sketches on my sketchblog, because that is a very stress free space.) I also work on my website to have a portfolio on there that I can work with and for. (It's still a work in progess though, so for now it's still just my old crrd page.)
In any case I feel very inspired by this new direction! In a way it also helps mentally to deal with stupid generative AI. I don't want to compete with slop on social media, i want to make stuff that i feel something about and find people who resonate with it. And that might be just a few people and that is fine! That's all i ever wanted.
That said, Thanks to all of you who stayed with me and my silly drawings over the years. I'm forever grateful to have you around <3

#also. i don't know any chinese but during my research for fic reasons i learned that the name baoxiang can be composed of#characters meaning to keep/to protect and to think/to plan/to desire (op's tags)
(DISCLAIMER I ALSO DO NOT KNOW CHINESE I JUST LIKE LEARNING ABOUT CHARACTER NAMES!!!)
so these tags reminded me of a tweet from spc which i had to go dig up which offers two different writings for "Wang Baoxiang":
so each of these spellings has one of those characters you mentioned-
宝 bǎo (jewel/treasure) 想 xiǎng (think/desire)
保 bǎo (keep/protect) 翔 xiáng (soar/glide)
(idk enough about chinese naming conventions to know if it would be plausible to write it like 保想 , can anyone weigh in?)
but plot twist! spc's instagram features yet another possible spelling which also uses the 保
but now the final character is 香 xiāng (fragrant/incense/perfume). this spelling is really interesting to me because it seems to combine a more masculine character with a more feminine one.
(also of note, all the "bao" characters use the same tone, all the "xiang" characters are different tones.)
i have no conclusion, just thought this might be interesting/useful… and i wanted to compile all these in one post 🫡
love this tiny bit of foreshadowing
(SWBTS, ch. 9)
#sorry to hijack ur post op#i was just gonna post the tweet and go but then i remembered the insta story and it got away from me#would love to hear opinions from any native speakers or advanced learners also#the radiant emperor

oough im having thoughts abt this post...
iterators are largely mechanical—their structures are presumably made of metal and, from the outside, they just look like really big buildings. the biological components of the iterators are contained inside of the structure itself in the form of neuron flies, coral, inspectors, etc.
it's not like you can cut into the walls of the iterators and see organs, and we know this because we don't really see anything like that in five pebbles' decaying structure, where layers of steel have been eroded by rot.
so, the biological components aren't within the walls themselves, but rather the organisms that reside in their structure and, potentially, the puppet.
iterators do refer to "cells" and "tissues" when talking about certain processes or components of their structure, but they may be referring to the organisms inside of them, considering they're a crucial part of iterators being able to function. the anti-gravity ecosystem supports both the micro and macro organisms, in turn allowing the iterators to perform any processes they need to. without this ecosystem, the organisms die, and the iterators can't function. so the organisms within iterator structures are a part of them—they're obligate symbionts, one can't live without the other. i don't think they're sentient, though, i believe the iterators have some control over the organisms.
i don't rly think that the corals, inspectors, etc bleed. i think they function more like irl coral—if you cut into coral, it doesn't bleed, but it's still an animal.
so i don't think iterators bleed, per se, but if you were to cut into their pipes or smth, i think their blood equivalent would be transparent. smth smth void fluid is clear after being filtered.
I think it would make sense for iterators to have blood since they’re partially biological.
But what color would they bleed?
One would likely default to assuming it to be red as it’s the most common color for blood…
But my observations on the rot have brought up a likely case for it to be blue instead. As you can see in the comparison between Hunter’s rot and Pebbles’ rot – the rot appears to mimic the colors of it’s host’s flesh and blood.
But perhaps not…
As there’s also these things that clearly have a red tint to them. Which implies the presence of red blood.
Perhaps iterators do have red blood, and the rot only gets it’s black and blue coloration from being a mutation of the neuron flies…
As you can see in Moon’s reactivation – the neuron flies are black when inactive – which would explain the black body…
And the blue accents could come from their glow which often shifts to dark blue.
So there’s two options here – both are good options. So I would like to know what others think is the best and mostly likely one.
#rain world#sorry to hijack ur post op#but iterators are rly interesting#nd i wanted 2 talk abt them

Favorite Mad Dog Quotes I Have Memorized*
(And want to draw the silly, dramatic poses he’s in)
“Again?! You shot my horse out from under me again?!”
“That there’s the devil himself!”
“As I live and breath…did he just turn into a horse?!”
“We’re a match made in Heaven…or Hell.”
“Yoo-hoo.”
“How many times we done danced this dance now?”
“Parting is such…sweet sorrow.”
“It’s almost like saying goodbye to a lover.”
Bonus:
The awkward but my ever-favorite line of everyone repeating: “A showdown!”
*some of these may be inaccurate
I want to study Mad Dog’s speech pattern and accent under a microscope.

i’m not over his face in that gif. john spent hundreds of years in stasis, the planet he was on was slowly being roasted to its inevitable death, 48 THOUSAND YEARS into the future. and rodney was still there, still somehow managed to think of something. and then john comes back. he comes back to atlantis, his atlantis, and everything is okay again. everyone is still alive, he still has a chance to make it right. because rodney did it. rodney found a way to rewrite the timeline, to bring him back, to save everyone. we all know john is a hero who does whatever it takes to keep everyone safe, but the reason he (almost) always succeeds? he has rodney at his side, making sure john succeeds. where ever john is to make a daring, self sacrificing rescue, rodney is there to make sure he succeeds. and he does, even 48 thousand years into the future. and john just can’t believe it.
Season 4, Episode 20: The Last Man
AKA we'll break your heart yet AGAIN.
Fourty-eight thousand years.
Man, this one hurt. (I know I say that about at least 50% of all episodes, but this one can't be reached by conventional pain medication. 10/10, ouch owie.)
Everything hurt. Seeing John alone in the city, seeing the hologram of old Rodney, watching everyone's sad endings that all occured because John wasn't there anymore. Sam, taking out three hive ships with her last breath. Ronon and Todd, going out with a bang like I knew they would. Poor Teyla and Jennifer. Lorne at the SGC, my MAN.
But can you imagine what that must have done to John, knowing the whole galaxy went to shit because he wasn't there? That everyone died horrible deaths, and Rodney died alone and lonely, because he wasn't there?
Rodney, working for TWENTY-FIVE FUCKING YEARS, after losing everyone, to save John and the City and the whole timeline by proxy. Teaching at a community college to make ends meet. Building a hologram that would wait for John long after the real Rodney was gone.
Seeing the City like that hurt. Seeing her light up for John even 48,000 years in the future, with less energy, less grace, but still trying.
And in the end, John stumbling - running - through the gate, back home, with a chance to set things right. With so much on his shoulders, but at least he got his people back.
Ooof. I need some fluffy fics. Where nothing bad happens. Ice cream on the pier, maybe a beach weekend on the mainland, board game night, some tlc for everyone. No bad things allowed. Everyone gets to sleep in, is hydrated, daily showers, good food, sunlight, fresh air, and NOBODY DIES. 😤
#i can’t believe it either#this fucking show#i can’t#i can’t get over the relationship between john and rodney#the way their characters are so tightly intertwined#the character development they both go through is so closely linked with the other#without john we would not have the rodney mckay we all know and love#and without rodney we wouldn’t have the john sheppard we all know and love#sorry to hijack ur post op#this turned into a much longer add on than i thought lmao#oh well people like my takes sometimes so here ya go have another#john sheppard#rodney mckay#sga the last man#sga#stargate atlantis

Not to be incredibly autistic on main, but my hyperfixation for 11 years has been Public Safety Announcements, believe me this industry gets worse and worse. Hell, let me just go down the list of communities they've exploited.
Have y'all ever heard of Project SCUM [1]? Scum standing for "subculture urban marketing". It was a proposed project specifically targeting LGBTQ+ communities (though, it was later renamed Project Sourdough because it was planned for the San Francisco area). Marketing strategy was to piggyback off phrases like "the right to choose" and "pride" in order to target people like us, whilst also using corporate philanthropy in order to deflect any criticism (E.G when one company was being boycotted, they donated a massive sum to HIV/AIDS research [2]). Women, not surprisingly, have also been pretty targeted, in fact they've been pretty blatantly seen as their own mini-industry within the tobacco industry, even getting segmented into their own subsections [3]. This is just one type of list to help companies figure out what marketing strategy to use to exploit them.
Also unsurprisingly a lot of their advertising focus in regards to women is on weight loss, going as far as trying to make weight loss cigs [4]. I probably don't even need a citation for people to believe the lengths they go to in order to exploit the average woman's fear about being perceived as fat, but whatever. They've also been pretty explicit about exploiting black people's desire to conform and survive a predominately white society [5]. Just take this as an example.
I could add more, but honestly I'm tired. In conclusion
(and do not blame the people that fell for this shit, the industry is insidious.)
Honestly, it can stand as it's own post. The tobacco industry is evil they want to get you smoking yadda yadda you've heard it a million times and like. I think we hear it so much but that a lot of the younger generations in the us dont really get why there's such an aggressive anti smoking campaign, I think people buy into the narrative South Park has spun about it "the cigarette companies are all upfront about it and people still chose their service and everyone against smoking are just obsessive fascists" and it's like. Genuinely, the cigarette companies are some of the most evil entities this world has ever seen. From knowing cigarettes caused cancer before anyone else and lying about it, to being the reason the majority of 50s television existed (shows like I Love Lucy existed to sell you cigarettes) to specifically making flavors of cigarettes and cartoon mascots to sell to kids. And I'm not saying that if you smoke cigarettes you're bad but I do really want the tobacco industry abolished and have it's wealth distributed to the society it controlled for so fucking long.
Seriously, go read about it. They did shit that manipulated the country, politics, and the lives of your parents and their parents, and likely their influence is affecting your life in this day and age still.
#ratter ranting#sorry guys but I've been hyperfixating on shit like this for 11 years#I need to use my knowledge somewhere#also sorry for sorta hijacking ur post op

@graphitedrizzle Thank you for reaching out! Asking questions is important to understanding more about the world, and it's good not to take scientific information from strangers on the internet at face value. Worm lung explanation below.
The immune system's response must be proportional to the challenge it faces [1]. Below is a screenshot of pg 32 of Janeway's Immunobiology 9th Edition (link to download the textbook for a better resolution in the bibliography).
The paragraph explains that the immune system can give a 'normal' immune response to an inappropriate stimulus, an example being an asthmatic inflammation response to an innocuous substance like dust. This means that a 'deficient' immune response to an innocuous substance would be no reaction. The table at the bottom of the textbook page displays this.
So asthma is the immune system attacking a stimuli, and a lack of asthma indicates a deficient immune response to that same stimuli.
What is asthma supposed to be attacking then?
In prehistoric times, the bodies of ancient humans were filled with parasitic worms [2]. Explained in this paper is the life cycle of various parasitic worms. The species' we are interested in are ingested orally, lays its eggs in the small intestine, it's larvae migrate to the lungs, where the worms are coughed out and re-swallowed by the host, and transported through the digestive tract back to the small intestine. Thus, ancient bodies had lungs infected with worms. These worms are what the asthma is supposed to be attacking. The innate immune response to parasitic worms in the lungs is asthma, to cough out the worms [3].
Allergic asthma (the specific subset of asthma we are concerned about today) is caused by eosinophilia (a high level of eosinophils)[4]. Eosinophils are a type of lymphocyte, the white blood cells that modulate immune system responses. These are the cells that do the attacking, and cause the asthmatic inflammation response. Eosinophils act both through biochemically attacking the worms on a cellular level, and causing physiological coughing to cough out the worms [5]. Inflammation of any kind in the human body is basically the immune system flooding the area with lymphocytes (absurdly oversimplifying, but this post is long enough already.)
So, what have we learned?
1. Ancient bodies were full of worms. worms in your damn lungs. [2]
2. The asthma coughing reaction is a specific response done by specific cells (eosinophils) in response to parasites (including parasitic worms). [5]
3. A 'normal' immune response to these worms in the lungs made ancient people survive longer by attacking and coughing out the worms, as opposed to a 'deficient' immune system response, which was to do nothing. [3]
4. Ancient humans who had the 'normal' immune response to worms in their lungs are the progenitors of modern people who have asthma. Ancient humans who had a 'deficient' response to worm parasites in their lungs are the progenitors of modern humans who don't have asthma. (or more accurately, they contributed their respective alleles to the gene pool, but genetics is so so complicated so take the easy explanation.)
5. So a 'normal' immune response is to have asthma, and a 'deficient' immune response is to not have asthma. However, due to increased standards in hygiene and medicine, we no longer have to worry about parasitic worms in our lungs. So the immune system's response is no longer proportional to the challenge it faces. Thus, in the modern world it's actually more of a bother to have the anti-worm defences, because those defences are also triggered by innocuous substances in the lungs like dust.
6. Thank you neaderthals for fucking nasty
All this being said, while I encourage asking questions, I quickly found multiple sources about this topic so I'm a bit disappointed to hear you couldn't find anything.

Neanderthals probably had insane pull. They were like “I am taking care of my grandma since she hurt her foot. Look at this beautiful cave painting I made.” and early modern humans were like “You are so refreshingly compassionate and make beautiful art. Your stocky frame, huge head and chinlessness have seduced me. Let’s interbreed and create offspring that will have unique autoimmune problems for thousands of years to come.”

ik this is a joke post but i'm gonna give a tip that's really helped me unlearn some anxieties I've had for a long, long while, at least about being in public and getting embarrassed about something silly that happened
when you go out, to school, to work, hanging out with friends, just going out on your own etc, pay attention to the people around you. focus on the small stuff
you're going to notice a LOT of stuff. people tripping, bumping into poles, dropping shit. someone just did a LOUD ugly laugh that's making them shove their hands over their mouth and blush. that guy over there dropped a handful of fries. oh look, that person's the first one to show up and is awkwardly pulling out their phone so they don't look lonely
realize that you would have noticed NONE of this unless you were actively looking for it. and realize, after you notice this, that you didn't actually care about any of it. sure, you noticed it. might feel bad for the guy who dropped his fries, or the first person to show up. but you didn't actually care that much about any of it. not much thought went towards it other than that first notice.
that's because you had somewhere to be, someone to see, something to do. why care about anyone else when you've got so much going on in your own little bubble? and even if you don't, you still don't care. you've got no reason to
that's how about 99% of people feel. shame is just putting yourself in someone else's shoes and assuming they won't do the same for you. sometimes you've gotta realize everyone's got that little rock in their shoe, they don't have time to pay attention to anyone else's
does anyone know what the first step of unlearning shame is. please say it’s substance abuse
