I've been so nostalgic lately, thinking about my grandmother. She was the only grandparent I really had (my mom's mom and dad's dad died before I was born, and my mom's dad died when I was 6, I only knew him for a short time when he be moved to our town so my parents could helo him).

We used to lay in her big bed and watch all sorts of TV together. Her soap operas during the day (she was a fan of The Young and the Restless, The Bold and the Beautiful, and Days of Our Lives), as well as game shows -- I remember her really loving Family Feud, Lingo, and reruns of Card Shark.

And of course, at night, we'd watch America's Got Talent and So You Think You Can Dance. SYTYCD was my favorite, and I watched some of the old routines tonight on YouTube, bc it always makes me think of my grandma, and how even when she was bedridden, right before she went into the hospital and passed, she'd ask me to watch all our favorite shows together.

I miss her so much. I wish she was still here -- she'd have just turned 90 this year. It's still so hard to believe she's... gone. When I was growing up, I called her on the phone every day. Sent her cards at every holiday, and me, my dad, and my sister visited her on every school break.

It's been eleven years and it's gotten a little easier but it still hurts.

I miss you, grandma. I wish I could tell you I love you one more time, and show you how much better I'm doing. I wish I could hug you again and hear your voice.

For now, I'll rewatch our favorite shows, and I'll always carry you with me.

Subconsciously tries to grab and stop you when you start rolling, but because shes so small you just drag her with you

Throws marbles on the floor as well as other things that can make you stumble or slip... probably soaps up the floor.. thank god hes just a circus rmemeber and not like, a ringmaster... this dude would tolt the floor in so many different angles just to fuck with you... thankfully, he cant do that!

Though in another timeline... perhaps you werent so lucky...

Not much to be said here, with the bit with zooble in the pilot (the arm thing), jax is more than ready to use peoples unique digital qualities to please him or mess with them, and you being his friend only makes you slightly less likely to be messed with

RAGATHA:

Keeps a hand on your shoulder when she notices the floor is tilted, tends to walk with you while holding your shoulder still. She can only imagine what it's like to be s victim of slopes.. it would drive her nuts.. as long as shes around shes going to do her damndest to make sure you dont roll away or slip... unless jax literally throws marbles in front of you two at the very last second because who can predict that..?

In any case where theres an IHA with a DEEP slope I think she just might resort to carrying you so you dont go FLYING down

ZOOBLE:

Okay you guys might not have the same issues but they can relate to you in the jax department, with him using your qualities to his advantage. Its absolute hell.. I think it would be this shared thing that leads to you guys building a relationship in the first place

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you about the songs! I like to take my time to listen to songs atleast a few times because the more I listen to it the more I like it so I waited for a bit to tell you haha :D but anyways...

I loved the Knights Trip album!! It has such a wonderful vibe to it. I played it while cleaning my room and I think I spent more time dancing than actually cleaning lol I had a huge smile on my face while listening to the entirety of it :) Will a 100% play this during dance or gym workouts!

Honestly I liked all the songs, all of them were upbeat and very cheerful...here's a little about a few of the songs ->

Little romance is the absolute cutest song - made me go "awww" on multiple occasions - has the power to cheer me up :)

We'll be "Knights" has a special place in my heart...maybe because that was the first song I heard from the album idk but it has a "Finale group song" vibe to it that I just really love <3

My sunshine, you're moonlight 🥺...Is this Ritsu's song? I loved it <33 The beats at the beginning + the voice (i loved the voice very much) + the melody! I liked it (maybe...my favorite? 👀)

Wonderful Happiness...Now this song...I don't really know why but I have caught myself randomly humming the song out of nowhere so it's just kinda stuck in my head atp lmao - Love this one too <3

Like I said all of these songs were very good <3 I am actually a huge Lyric Nerd so I love analyzing the lyrics for any song. Unfortunately I wasn't able to find the English translations for the lyrics so I had to miss out on that step this time T-T (I have a feeling the lyrics are really sweet so that's a bummer on my end)

I'm sure as a fan you might have a deeper understanding as well as love for the songs, characters, and singers...but even as a "not (yet) fan" I still found the album really enjoyable to listen to!

abt the songs, little romance TOTALLY IS THE CUTEST SONG EVERRRR full fairytale vibes and with such an adorable and happy rhythm that makes me smile every single time. its so perfect for ritsus center song and it holds a very special place in my heart <3

well be knights is another very dear song to me and a curious case as well bc for months we only had the mv version of the song which is shorter and i feel like they only left there the slower more emotional parts of the song (i really recommend you watch the anime mv) and when i listened to the full version the first time i was SO SHOCKED bc i didnt expect the quicker rhythm or That instrumental dubstep in the middle????? it felt like a completely different song to me but it goes SO hard and i love the full version so much too well be knights my beloved forever. also i find it funny how you say it gives finale group song vibes bc its true its one of the last knights songs weve got and so can give that impression but well be knights is actually knights debut song! its the very first song they ever sang together on a stage (even so that one of the members, tsukasa, hadnt joined them yet and so doesnt sing in this song)

brother crab's winter 2024 parting thoughts: metallic rouge

man. alright. one of the most promising starts of the season but tl;dr ngl this is pretty embarrassing for you bones

this show started with a close to 80% average score on anilist (which is really good) and has since slid down to 60% and the sad thing is i can't even say it didn't deserve that

there are a lot of very interesting concepts here, but the quality of the series as a whole declined so steeply from potentially great to... just not great

it's never easy to turn what was meant to be a 2-cour series into a 1-cour show, i get that. but they really fumbled it here. there were a lot of moments where i felt like the story would have been better served as a video game, and i think it's because it felt like all we got were major cut scenes/boss fights, while all the little chats and flavor text in a game, that would usually make the world and characters more robust, were missing

i can definitely see how this might have done better with a second cour, though maybe that's hopeful thinking because the writing overall just doesn't inspire confidence. there were lots of fun, quippy moments, but they seemed to drift about in a vacuum. it's almost like everything was interesting but at the same time meaningless

what makes me say embarrassing is the animation, though. lots of good character designs! some good, maybe even great, action sequences! but in terms of consistency there was no consistency, and this was bones. not just bones but their 25th anniversary project!

obviously something happened to mess with the production, but at this point i would've just scrubbed the 25th anni label from the project entirely. because it is sincerely just a lil bit embarrassing for a studio like bones to call this its 25th anniversary project

some episodes weren't so bad, but in some the characters felt like they were off model more than they were on. it's just not a great look. even the quality of the op (in terms of animation, not the music, which was incredible) wasn't up to par with what i would've expected

it's just so so so obviously a series that got hacked way down that i really have to feel sorry for it. like for instance

WHERE WAS THIS ROUGE FROM THE OP??? it just really feels like they had a lot more planned for the series that they didn't get to do, which is unfortunate

but even with them losing a whole cour... idk it makes me think of hoshiai no sora, also meant to be 2-cour and wound up only one. i vastly prefer the way hoshiai no sora just let itself end of a big 'fuck you' cliffhanger, honestly i can understand if people dislike that ending but i thought, given the time constraints, it actually worked really well

anyway. real bummer but not even the yuribait could save this series from being devastatingly mediocre. sincerely there are so many good ideas, themes, dialogue snippets, etc that just did not come together at all. it's like a show that wanted to be everything but ultimately didn't know what it wanted to be at all

the music however! the op, the ed, all the music! really excellent

ultimately this slipped from "potentially great!" to "not bad... i think..." to "well at least it's not listeners"

I Watched All of Doctor Who Series 1/Series 14 Today

I kinda thought it'd be fun to watch the entire series in one day instead of watching weekly AND I WAS RIGHT. IT WAS FUN. I muted lots of words across social media and managed to remain unspoiled so I got to just experience the series without any expectations. Would recommend as a way to experience the show, free of fandom nonsense and having no idea what might happen. OK SO. BRIEF THOUGHTS ON EACH EPISODE BELOW THE CUT. (Also for the record, I dropped off Doctor Who in Peter Capaldi's early episodes and then only tuned back in for David Tennant's specials last year. So I might be missing some stuff that is important? idk.)

Gonna assign each episode a letter grade because why not?

Space Babies (C) - The way things were explained made it SO obvious that they wanted this episode to serve as an introduction to completely new viewers. Which... fair enough. As a whole the episode was meh. I did like the Bogeyman made of literal bogeys, but "Babies Can Talk!" humor is not my cup of tea. Wouldn't choose to rewatch this any time soon.

The Devil's Chord (B) - A solid Monster of the Week type episode. The fashion was ON POINT and I like the idea of the importance of music to humanity. But the musical finale number was cringe and just not a good song so... docking points.

Boom (D) - I swear I tried to not have my pre-conceived Moffat hating influence me, but like this was a bad episode? It just WAS. SORRY. It was boring and SO heavy handed and the episode's pacing felt glacial. Only saving grace was Ncuti's acting, tbh.

73 Yards (A+) - UM WOW. I think the last time I felt this way about an episode of Doctor Who was like... Midnight? And I think the vibes of Midnight and 73 Yards are similar in that it's a simple thing that is VERY creepy. (The repeating voice vs a figure that stays exactly 73 yards away, always.) And the way Ruby used her to end the evil PM. AMAZING. Can I explain the time travel/time loop/time lines of it all? No. Do I care? Also no.

Dot and Bubble (A) - I LOVED the way this episode played against expectations. You expect it to be like: Lindy is a shallow person wrapped up in the virtual world but learns to engage with reality and become a hero. But like, no. She manages to survive, but she sucks, lmao. And all the people in her world suck. It was a twist that didn't feel unearned (I think the whiteness of everyone on the social media platform is a giant neon sign pointing to the ending) and also made the episode memorable.

Rogue (A-) -What a FUN episode. Absolutely CLASSIC episodic monster story. Also a 'single episode romance that ends tragically' for the Doctor isn't new, but the romance being a man was a good change to make it feel fresh. My only complaint is that it felt like Ruby was a bit too sidelined and in such a short season it feels like every moment she's not on screen is wasting the limited time we have to get to know her.

The Legend of Ruby Sunday (B+) - A decent episode and it was fun to see Rose, Kate and Mel again. The S Triad mystery was also pretty intriguing. (I was convinced for a while that Susan was actually a anthromorphized TARDIS who somehow went evil.) However, the episode relied way too much on handwaving technology stuff with the Time Window that I just did not get.

Empire of Death (A-) - Satisfying conclusion to the Sutekh stuff anchored by a really great performance from Ncuti. The reveal of Ruby's mom just being... an ordinary person was great. She was only significant because people imbued her with significance. We create meaning out of things that maybe don't have meaning. Also nice change of pace from characters needing to be The Most Special Being Ever.

Overall thoughts: The shortened season was a major bummer. I think it robbed us of more of the filler type episodes that can do a lot to build the Doctor and Companion characters and also develop the bond between them. So like... only having 8 episodes with them made the final episode feel kinda unearned?? I think we needed more time seeing them being bestie for their goodbye scene to feel believable. In spite of that, Millie was completely charming as Ruby and Ncuti was a powerhouse of an actor. An excellent Doctor!

i feel like this story suffers from the same issue TSE has, where by straying from the games canon you’ve actually made things so much more complicated? while some things definitely made sense (vanessa being williams daughter was a nice touch and made sense for both characters fight me, also a great nod to how shes mind controlled in game canon) others feel like they just made things more complicated? like, why was garrett just a random kid in a random campsite? why was william there, why did he kill him, why do the ghost kids know him? i guess you could say, if there is a reason, it will be revealed in a later movie? but thats so many unnecessary steps when all you had to do was have garret go missing from a freddys location (like in TSE). like, mikes brothers disappearance is linked to freddys, thats why he needs to work there, you could save a lot of time aunt jane ate up. speaking of.

its such a hilarious plot hole that they just totally move past aunt janes death. like this guy is fighting tooth and nail for custody of his sister against his aunt and she shows up dead at his house and nobody is suspicious or cares. also he shows up at the hospital with a stabbed cop who’s apparently in a coma and cant verify his story at all?? the plot armor on this man!!

i realize they needed to put abby in danger at some point or else why would she even be here, but having the ghost kids want to ghostify her doesnt make a whole lotta sense >_> like they kept saying william was confusing them but they never really showed that, golden freddys spirit kid seemed pretty aware of the situation the entire time.

that one jumpscare with the kid with black goopy eyes was pretty silly lmao. feel like they could have captured the creepypasta vibe better

this is semi positive and negative, but i really really liked vanessa’s creepiness i just wish theyd leaned into it a bit more? that scene where shes staring lovingly up at the animatronics and then asks mike to dance is just so 👌 like girl what is wrong with you fr 🥰 but then her behaviors dont make much sense after that, i was a bit confused as to when she was supposed to be trying to get mike to stay and when she was supposed to be warning him away.

the writing in general was definitely a bit weird ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ eh

sorry if my negatives seem like bummers, but i really enjoy picking apart movies i like, and i tend to like things more when there is stuff to pick apart! (sensory fandom experience…..) in general i really enjoyed the movie and i think most fnaf fans will! it’s fun cheesy horror that has a lot of love for the source material without trying to BE it, which wouldn’t be possible anyway

I just finished the Ruin DLC, or at least one of the endings(?). While I want to do all endings, I can't say I know how to get them. (That is if there are multiple endings, I've heard there are, but at the same time idk. But I'm definitely in the clear to watch playthroughs of it now.)

My thoughts and spoilers beneath the cut

This was fun and scary at the same time. A fun scary, to be sure, but at the same time I don't think I got that scared. I died a few times, sure, but half(or more) of them was because I fell off a ledge to my death lol. Eclipse was fun, but it felt too short a section. But hey, he's cool, no longer attempting to kill you in the dark. At the same time, he didn't really feel like a threat, in my opinion. The Moon section in the base game definitely seems scarier than what happened in Ruin. But that's not to say it was bad, I enjoyed it a lot. The atmosphere was really spooky, and overall a good time.

Next thing, finding out that Roxy is Cassie's favorite animatronic was cool. Sure, you can argue that it was obvious, but Cassie picks up the Roxy Talkie(the name of the thing she uses to communicate with Gregory) inside the Pizzaplex, so it wasn't with her prior. Also there's one scene where Roxy actually remembers Cassie, mentioning the last time she had a birthday there, and that was so sweet. Kinda heartbreaking cause I had to deactivate her. And that one scene that was shown in the trailer when Roxy grabs you, she lets go and says sorry after Cassie yells 'Let go!', possibly when she recognized Cassie's voice?

Poor Monty, didn't really do much beyond showing up a couple times, one time pretty much submerged in water, that was cool. Guy doesn't even talk anymore, just growls and stuff.

Chica, though. She's had better days, man. Missing half her head(or at least the exosuit(?) covering her endo head) and partly melted.she barely seems to move, but in the sections where she's active, she has killed me a couple of times.

They definitely threw me off a bit with Freddy, missing his head and his chest cavity now has teeth(it definitely looks like that). So that possibly means that it's going off the Saving Vanny Ending in the base game, where you beat all three Princess Quest games and Gregory repairs Freddy's head and Vanessa is no longer Vanny(unless you headcanon Vanessa and Vanny as separate people). He's barely there though, only a short chase scene then he's gone. Kinda feels like they just went 'Oh, you know how he was always there in the base game? Well now he's there for like, 5 minutes and disappears forever.'

The mini Music Men were a bit creepy, and have a different jumpscare, they pretty much swarm you. Granted, there wasn't a whole lot of them, but definitely more than I would think there would be. No DJMM though, bummer. Big guy is one of the cooler ones.

The whole AR stuff they did in the game was really cool, too. And trying to avoid Glitchtrap was interesting in itself, which kept me from just having the Vanni mask on the whole time. It also let me turn off the Wet Floor Bots for some reason, maybe that's tied to something? Or it's just a weird thing that they added, who knows.

That ending though, what a ride, but also kinda confusing in a way. So in finding "Gregory", we actually find a robot mimicking Gregory's voice, revealing that Cassie was tricked into freeing it. Now, I have heard some predicting that this was a possibility, so not too much of a surprise, but it was still interesting. We then hear from "the real Gregory"(probably, the reveal that it wasn't Gregory that was telling us to come save him already happened, so it might be him) that he was trying to reach Cassie from the beginning to tell her not to go down there or something. But as she escapes, Gregory(or maybe the fake Gregory) shuts down the elevator and she dies. Oh, but before that, Roxie comes back and saves Cassie from the robot pretending to be Gregory(though how she found her way down there when she's blind is a mystery to me).

Overall I had a good time. Also from the few actual collectibles I found, it seems like Gregory doodled some of the endings from the main game. One comic doodle was of the fire ending, and one was the Burntrap ending. There was another one but I forgot what it was. There were likely others as well, but I didn't find those.

Oh, also Candy Cadet was there, and some gifts that had Faz Tokens that you gave to Candy Cadet to let it tell you a story. Which was basically a metaphor for you being lured down there to let the monster out.

The DLC felt like it was a bit short, but then again, it's free and honestly that's fine with me. As for any glitches, there weren't really any, except for maybe the one mini Music Man in the one vent that somehow killed me when I had escaped the vent, but whatever. There was quite the long load each time I had to respawn after dying. And a bit of a load to new areas, but honestly not that bad. None of it negatively impacted my experience with this DLC. Definitely going to play it again, it was definitely fun. Good job, Steel Wool Studios, you did good with this one. Especially since it's not a buggy mess Security Breach was when it came out(still kinda a buggy mess, but not as bad. And I still enjoyed playing it when it came out and recently).

Now to watch others play it and see what they think about it.

Also now debating on whether or not to have some of these points explored in my fnaf au with the animatronic ocs. I guess it depends on 1. If I can make it blend together with what I already had planned, and 2. If I like the result of seeing if they can be somewhat combined.

You were bored, just slouching in bed late at night waiting for something to happen. Since quarantine hit, you really haven’t been able to see your friends, well not without a screen. You’ve been keeping up with your closest friends, Connie, Sasha, and Armin, and playing Minecraft with them when you don’t have (or don’t do) your schoolwork. You’ve been missing actually hanging out with them though.

So you decided to group message them about it, see if they wanted to go do something, taking safety precautions of course. Turns out Sasha’s mom wouldn’t let her go anywhere because she was worried for her, and Connie was staying with family out of state. But Armin could come.

You moved to private messages to talk to Armin about it, so you don’t spam the group chat or make Sasha and Connie jealous.

“Hey, are you free on Friday?” you asked.

You quickly saw him typing back to you, “Sorry, no, but I can do something on Wednesday or Thursday.”

You sat up a bit, “Alright, either one works for me.” You had that equivalent of awkward silence between texts where neither of you know what to say. “Which one do you prefer?”

He responds after a moment of thinking. “Wednesday’s fine. What do you wanna do?”

You thought it over for a moment, not actually expecting to get this far. “I know that ice cream shop down the road’s open. We could get some ice cream and head down to the beach for a while and just screw around if you want.”

“Sure. Which ice cream shop again?” He questioned. Armin lived not too far from you and had been over a couple times.

“That one we pass when you come over. Taking a right from my house it’s on that corner, a few shops down from the gas station.”

“Oh that one! Ok.” He responded.

“Did you get your bike fixed?” You asked. You all had bikes and would go places on them before the whole virus thing happened. Thing is, Connie crashed into Armin after hitting a pothole and totaled his front spokes.

“Yeah, it’s all ready to go. Do you have a cooler?”

“I know there’s one somewhere in the garage that I can find and clean out.”

“Alright, I’ll see you Wednesday?”

“Definitely.”

You were excited to see at least one of your close friends during the pandemic. You set your alarm for tomorrow, which was Monday. You only had to wait until Wednesday to see him.

Wednesday rolled around soon enough and you had just finished the last of today’s schoolwork. You packed up a backpack with some extra snacks, water, and some bandages in case either of you fall.

You texted Armin “Hey, where do you wanna meet?”

“I can just meet you at the ice cream place if you want.”

“You sure? That's kinda far from where you are.”

“I’ll be fine, it's not terribly far.”

“Alright, well I’ll see you there.”

“Cya,” he signed off.

You put your phone in your backpack, before dusting off that old cooler, filling it with ice, and putting it in your bike basket. You set out for the shop feeling good. You haven’t been outside in a while, and feeling the wind against your skin felt perfect.

You went down the road a ways, pulling up into the shop’s parking lot. You pulled your bike over and leaned it against the curb with the kickstand, and waited for Armin.

About 10 minutes later, the blond comes into view, pulling into the lot, spotting you, and heading over. You look up at him, pulling your mask up as he does the same. He wipes his brow as he’s hauling his bike over. “Hey, how are you?” he asks, looking down and putting his kickstand to the curb.

Your smile, “Good, how about you?” In all honesty you were great now that he’s here. You haven’t seen him in person for around 11 months and you’ve missed him.

He looked back up at you and you could tell he was smiling even under his mask.

“I’m fine, happy to be outside,” he sighed.

“Hey, your hair’s a little longer,” you pointed out.

He blushed a tiny bit, “I’ve only gotten it cut once during this and now since everything’s reopening, my mother’s scared to take me to get it cut again. The only reason she let me come on this trip was because it’s contactless.”

“I see, well either way it looks cute,” you reassured him.

He let out a small laugh, “Thanks.”

“Anyways,” you say, going up to the front of the building, “what flavor do you want?” You put some gloves on before reaching for your wallet.

“I’ll just have the cookie dough.” Armin pulls out his phone to pay that way.

“Hey, I can pay for both of us if you want,” you say, looking over at Armin.

“It’s fine, I have my own money,” he politely declines.

“Don’t worry about it, it’s my pleasure,” you say, taking money out of your wallet, enough for the two of you. “What size do you want?”

He puts his phone back into his pocket, looking up at the size chart. “I’ll just have a medium.” You nod and go up to tell the person at the counter your orders. A few minutes later, your orders are in the window. You hand the cashier the money, then take off your gloves and grab your ice creams. You put the bowls in Tupperware and then in the cooler.

“You ready to go?” You ask Armin. He nods, clicking his helmet back into place and getting on his bike. You get back on your bike too and the both of you head out.

It’s another 10 minutes before you get to the beach. It isn’t the best weather for this kind of visit. It’s overcast and a little bit foggy, but it’s still a nice place to hang out.

The both of you lock your bikes up and take your ice cream out of the cooler. You hand Armin his dessert and open your own.

“Wish the weather was better,” you commented, looking up at the grey sky.

“Well if the sky’s not clear, that means less people will come,” Armin points out, looking over at you. You nod and look around for a spot to sit down. “We could go over there,” Armin suggests. He’s pointing at a couple boulders decently spaced apart up on the hill away form everything.

“Ok,” you say. You both start going over. There’s no one else at the beach besides a few random people chilling at the shoreline. Armin hops up on the boulder to the right and you get on the left one.

“Thanks for paying for this,” Armin sheepishly says, taking a bite.

“It’s no problem, I’m happy to,” you say. God, you wish you could hug him. Quarantine’s been horrible to your social interaction, plus you may have an inkling of attraction to him. Even to just hold his hand would be ethereal. But you can’t. You need to stay safe, and you don’t know if he feels the same about you.

“So, um, how’s your week been so far?” He inquires.

“It’s been okay. Hating school as usual, but besides that I’ve had a good time keeping up with you all,” you say.

He takes another bite before speaking, “If you want, I could help you out with your work if you’re having trouble.” This wasn’t the first time he offered, but you felt like too much for agreeing last time.

“I’ll think about it, I’m managing alright for now though. How about you? How’s quarantine been treating you?” You ask him.

“I’ve been able to keep up with things for the most part, but it does get tiring. It’s good to finally get out of the house again.” You nod and both of you just sit there for a moment, eating and looking out at the ocean. You couldn’t see that far out because of the fog, but what you could see was nice.

The waves slowly crashed against the sand and rocks while you heard gulls above you. You cherished this moment, as simple as it is. Even if your feelings were unmatched, he was still your best friend. You get butterflies whenever he’s around. He makes you happy and anxious in the best ways possible.

Armin looks up before taking out his phone. “Looks like it’s supposed to rain in a bit.”

“That’s a bummer, I wish we could stay out here longer,” you say.

“We can always come back. I’m still free tomorrow.” You perked up at his suggestion.

“Same, we can do that,” you quickly reply. He nods his head in agreement.

“Same time?”

“Sure.” You both went back to eating for a moment. “We should  do this more. This is fun.”

“I do quite like this. It’s relaxing to take a break every now and then,” he says.

The two of you keep talking, about home, friends, hobbies, school, etc, when you felt a raindrop on your cheek. You look over at Armin, who looks up at the rain.

“Guess it’s time to go,” he says, slightly frowning. You stand up, getting the trash from your ice cream and start walking over to the trash can. It’s under one of those buildings that look like metal car awnings, but with benches and the board that shows the directory and rules of the beach. Armin follows suit.

“We really should have checked the weather,” you say, disposing of your trash, “I don’t feel comfortable with either of us biking in the rain on the road like this.”

Armin throws his trash away, “We’ll be okay, it’s not a whole lot,” he says. “Besides, you can call someone if you don’t feel comfortable.”

You sit down on a bench, looking on your phone. “Looks like it’s not supposed to stay for too long. We could just stay here for a while if you’re okay with it.” He sits down next to you and nods. He looks between you two and sees the small gap.

“Sorry,” he says as he moves further away.

“Hey, it’s okay,” you say. You want to tell him how you feel, you really do, but if he doesn’t feel the same, you’re afraid things won’t go back to normal.

You start to say his name at the same time he speaks, which causes you to both chuckle. “You go first,” he says.

“Go ahead, I’ve already forgotten what I was saying.”

“That quickly?” he smiles.

“Apparently.”

“Well I- I don’t know how to put this properly, but…”

“But what?”

“I want to do this more often, and I know you already said that but I really miss hanging out with you.” He looks over at you, waiting for your reaction.

“I miss you too,” you say. You felt your cheeks darken as your face warmed up. You look over at him, he was just the same as you. That gave you the confidence you needed. “I really like you, Armin.”

He looks up at you suddenly, “You mean like, more than friends?” he asks you nervously.

“Yeah. More than friends. I have for a while but I just haven’t said anything.” You look away until he says something, not wanting to face him as he’s making up his mind, but he answers almost immediately.

“I do too! I- I mean I just didn’t say anything because I wasn’t sure if you felt the same.” You felt your breath hitch in your throat, wanting to say something, but you just didn’t have the right words.

“Well, um, we should definitely do this more often then,” you finally say, giving him a smile.

“Do you uh, want to hold hands?” he asks shyly.

“Should we?”

“It’ll be fine as long as we wash our hands when we get home.” You nodded and stuck out your hand. He took it as he moved a bit closer to you.

You two just sat there for a moment, taking everything in. The rain, each other, the sounds coming from the road. Even though it seemed so new, it felt good. It felt right. Armin started speaking again, talking about how he’s been thinking of this moment for a long time. You smiled and continued the conversation for a decent half hour, still clasping hands.

You finally heard the rain let up and the sun began to shine through the clouds.

“You want to go down to the shore for a bit now?” You asked him.

“Of course,” he said. You got up, taking him by the hand down the hill.

Ha! ha! ha! I don’t know man! No but ok sorry. I really do feel this. I used to be SUCH a romantic daydreamer. The guy I loved lived across the country and I’d listen to that Vampire Weekend song “Campus” while I was lying on the quad between classes and picture him just...showing up? Or I’d listen to “Remedy” by Little Boots (all of my romantic daydreams had/ve very specific and slightly arbitrary soundtracks) and picture moving to New York and dancing to that song in a bar all...sexy I guess? and he’d...happen to also be at that bar? and notice I was beautiful and sexy and grown up? He’d be talking to his friends and then mid sentence notice me, dancing all...I guess I’m committed to ‘sexy’ now...across the room in my one shoulder bodycon dress from H&M and be like Benjamin Bratt in Miss Congeniality taking off his sunglasses like seeing me in a whole new light, beginning the inevitable dominoes to falling in love with me. More recently, a few years ago I decided the most charming thing about me was how good I was at making pancakes (that part might have been correct) and I needed the ingredients and wouldn’t it be so cute if my date went with me to buy them but I decided that pre-date and so halfway through the date when I was like “want to come to the grocery store with me?” he was like, “...ok?” and I was like not committed enough to this manic pixie pancake making girl I’d constructed to be able to hold it up alone and he was not cooperating and it was just awkward and I ended up rushing us out of the Key Foods on Myrtle and later on a second date ignored that same instinct and had bad sex with him. 

What is my point? What is my point. I guess it is this: romanticize yourself. Daydream about what a fucking fantasy you are. If you decide *he* (or she or they) is--well, anything if you decide they’re anything before you meet them--you’re setting yourself up for disappointment. Not because they’re bad but because you don’t know what they are. There are people I’ve known for 20 years and they’re still revealing new sides of themselves to me. If you decide who anyone is before you get to know them, it’s going to be frustrating for both of you. ExCEPT yourself. Decide who you are. I read something recently, I truly can’t remember where, where the advice asker was like ‘I don’t hate myself but I’ve realized I have trouble deciding who I am because I constantly want to remain open and pliable to whomever my next boyfriend or boss wants me to be’ and I was like hahaha oh no. So if you are anything like me, which we already know you are a little bit cause of the romantic daydreaming, please do consider who you are and obviously that’s fluid and nebulous extremely Angela Chase voice people always say you should be yourself like yourself is this definite thing like a toaster, but think about what you like about yourself or what you don’t like about yourself but you know is yourself and really lock that in.

Open yourself wide open to the possibility of being charmed, of finding someone interesting, of feeling affection. Before you get there, feel as dreamy as you can. Listen to your dreamy songs, put on your softest top, eat a snack. When you get there, ask questions. The more you know about someone, the easier it is to be fond of them. Open yourself to the possibility of being bummed out. What if you thought this was gonna be so fun and bubbly and they were boring? Ok. Huge bummer! But better than the alternative: that you thought all day how flat this was going to be. idk idk I’m sorry if this is wildly unhelpful. Be dreamy, be open to dreaminess, remember that other people are completely separate from you and as real to themselves as you are to yourself, love love love and leave when you’re bored.

Amos didn’t get drunk. He drank, sure, took the edge off a little bit more nights than he didn’t, but he didn’t get drunk. It helped that he was built like a bovine, all muscle and size, and it took a hell of a lot more to get him even tipsy than it took Holden, Naomi, and Alex to get completely fucking shitfaced. If he had any interest in getting sloppy, that might be a bummer, but he didn’t. Amos needed to be in control. He was barely starting to trust his own sober judgment. There was no way he’d allow himself to be at the mercy of his drunken whims. So he didn’t get drunk.

Amos didn’t get drunk, or high for that matter, so he was really fucking confused when he woke up feeling on the top of the fucking world. He blinked into consciousness and looked around. He was in the med bay, strapped to the auto-doc, and missing four fingers on his right hand. His first hazy thought was whether he could fit his whole fist inside his ass now that those pesky digits were out of the way. His second thought was that he needed the captain.

Alex was at his bedside. It was comforting to see a friendly face, but comfort wasn’t what his intoxicated brain was in the mood for.

“Where’s--” Amos started, then forgot the guy’s name. He swore he used to know it. “You know, the hot one?” Alex laughed at him. “I’ll go get Naomi,” Alex said. Amos shook his head. Easy mistake. Naomi is very hot. But he was looking for the other one, the Earther with the good ass. “No. The short hot one,” he explained. Alex squinted at him. “Clarissa?” “No. God, could you be any more heterosexual?” Alex was thrown off by that. There was only one other man on the ship, so the hot one was... “Holden?” “Right. Yes. “Hot one, at your service,” joked Holden as he came through the sliding door. It felt like it had been a whole year that Amos was waiting, high and alone in the med bay, trying to decipher the flashing lights and symbols that might’ve been words on the screen next to him. “How are you feeling?”

“I’m no fortune teller, but you’re not gonna die of four missing fingers.”

They sat there in amicable silence for a little while, Holden’s thumb moving in comforting circles on Amos’s skin. Eventually, Holden broke the silence.

“So, you really think I’m the hot one?” he asked, breaking the tension. Amos laughed.

“Don’t get a big head about it.”

Episode 6 was AWESOME. Finally it really and truly felt like Digimon Adventure!!

This episode plus the last one makes me eat my words of despair over the blandness of episode 4. I’m counting that one as just a miss. I’m hoping that it doesn’t bode for the tone they’ll take with all Sora episodes though. Sora’s easy to overlook because she’s already kind, brave, and responsible - the main things the other kids need to work on. Still she never bored me in old Adventure. I only ever wanted more of her and that was my hope for 2020 Sora. Her intro episode wasn’t a great start, but guess what, she got to be pretty darn cool in this episode, and overall the tone of this ep was such an improvement on ep 4 that I’m back to thinking we will absolutely get a modern, cool girl Sora who rocks her spotlight episodes in the future. Okay, so this was the much-awaited MIMI episode. Heck yeah. It’s called “The Targeted Kingdom.” Who is the queen of the kingdom, I’ll give you three guesses, eh what’s that Mimi? like WOW you got it on the first try!

^ So I’m not quite sure what’s going on here. I think Sora is standing on Taichi’s back and Piyomon is helping lift her (them?) up into the trees so Sora can look around? They are trying to find the way to the ocean. This seems like the most awkward way possible to go about it but you do you kiddo...

See, Adventure Taichi would be making jokes while this is happening. 2020 Taichi is thinking about The Big Picture, at least as much of it as he knows of. He’s turning into such a pensive type. Yamato’s gonna have to work hard to keep his lead brooder status.

Also I was thinking... there’s a few times in this ep, and more in others, where I feel like the animators don’t show us enough... Idk what to call it, movement? The fall out of actions? Like why don’t we see them climb into the tree? Why are we zoomed into so close when they fall out? Later during the big fight scene, there’s stuff going on that could definitely be shown in a clearer, and also cooler to watch, way. My theory of course is it’s all budget issues but what a bummer.

The kids’ first intro to the bottomless pit that is a Digimon’s stomach. They have no food (seriously? in that pack of emergency supplies Sora brought by pure happenstance there is NO food??) so they go... steal some. But they don’t know they’re stealing.

Introducing... Queen Mimi! Yes, Queen. They’ve upgraded her!

Honestly, I love how she’s introduced as royalty, but she’s dressed as a cowgirl. No one would ever ask Mimi to pick just one theme. Like her kimchi fried rice with whipped cream and strawberries, Mimi is not afraid to mix genres!

Like I said, the animation in this ep is a cut above what’s it been recently, which is a relief. And everyone’s appearance is so much like Adventure that I wonder why they changed anything xD But I’m just so grateful everyone kept their unique eyes. It was the one thing I missed in the animation of Tri, even though I wouldn’t have wanted high school kids to have baby eyes. But the eyes really highlighted each character’s individuality. Glad that’s still a thing even if not every animator pays attention to it.

Taichi & Sora: Were those your fruit trees? Uhh sorry? My Digimon was close to death and we were starving...

Mimi: You will starve again unless you learn the meaning of the law!

So Mimi arrived in the digital world, separated from the others, and immediately became Queen of the Tanemon. I SENSE A TREND.

Mimi doesn’t come across as ditzy and selfish as she did in early Adventure. I am not sure if that side of her’s been erased in favor of simply making her reluctant to fight because she’s soft-hearted, or if we’ll see her self-centeredness appear later on. I hope so. Right now the 2020 story is very focused on the plot and not on the children’s growth, which is a huge departure from Adventure, but I don’t think it will remain that way. I hope not at least. But I do think it’s possible that they’ll rewrite Mimi to be a bit less self-centered and/or airheady, and I’m not exactly against that. After all, post-Adventure Mimi showed her cool side more when she was willful or opinionated, and I’m on board with more of that in the 2020 show too. A better balance would definitely be a good thing in Mimi’s case.

She kind of made me think of Sailor Moon in this episode, lol

GASP! We are all Chosen Children! Mimi immediately says NOOO WAY i’m queen of the Tanemon!! But not because the Tanemon are catering to her every whim (they’re not, as far as I can tell! Though they did make her a throne!). Because she honestly feels a responsibility to look after them. Again, pretty different from old Adventure.

Pocket Koushirou returns and Taichi tries to absorb him into his brain!!

Taichi: *grunting* HNNNNGGGG!! Give me me your curiosity!!!

Koushirou: Are you Vademon!?!?!

Koushirou shows video footage from the human world that shows the effect the power outage is having. Though it’s not a complete blackout yet, some places like hospitals have already lost power and are in trouble. 

Mimi sees her grandfather, the president of Tachikawa Industries, on the TV helping people in trouble. VERY DIFFERENT. VERY COOL. I approve

Koushirou also points out that there is INDEED a time lapse between the human and digital worlds. I’m not exactly sure how different the time lapse is from old Adventure. At first, I thought it was much smaller, but thinking about it... given how slow the video from the human world was moving, it might be sizable. But I don’t think it’s as big as old Adventure. At any rate, Taichi and Sora figure out this means Mimi was on her own with Palmon and the Tanemon village for longer than they realized.

Also makes me wonder just how much time Yamato’s spent in the digital world...

Mimi feels torn between wanting to help her grandfather and needed to protect the Tanemon village! Naturally Taichi suggests they work together!

And a Tanemon rudely kicks him in the face!! Just kidding. But it was too cute not to cap

Mimi brings the waterworks like three or four times this episode.

Mimi: Alright! You work for me now!

Taichi: ...??? Okay I guess????

Greymon is surprisingly limber for a chubby dinosaur.

Taichi does what he does best in battle scenes: stand in immediate danger and look up a dinosaur’s bum.

OGREMON MAKES HIS BIG APPEARANCE IN A MIMI EP. I totally called it last week. Okay, technically he already appeared in episode 5... but we barely saw him okay! He uses Soundbirdmon (who may indeed not be sentient?) to mind-control other Digimon to find and apparently kill?? the children. Ogremon honestly sounds kind of mind-controlled himself but not sure. If he is, it’s a different kind of control. He may just talk like that because he’s an ogre and not very articulate...

So speaking of rushing into immediate danger... Not only is Sora right in the middle of the right, she’s HANGING OFF BIRDRAMON’S LEG. This show is SO not promoting child safety hahahhahaha

Cute Taichi. Cuter still - Taichi and Sora tag teaming it. PLEEEEEASE give me more of this!! I want nothing more than for Sora to join Taichi and Yamato as a heavy-hitter. I always headcanoned her that way growing up. Let Sora kick ass 2020!!

Mimi recalls being all alone in a strange world when she meets Palmon. Btw they totally revamped the Pyokomon Village for this Tanemon village, I dig.

More waterworks as Mimi tells Palmon she loves her, and Palmon says it right back. Foreshadowing for Mimi/Koushirou tiffs in the future!? It was lit last ep that Koushirou tried to say he loves his partner and choked on it. Something tells me these two are gonna butt heads again ;)

Mimi decides to go with Taichi and Sora and leave the Tanemon village, Idk, I guess they’ll be safe now???  at least they won’t be targeted for having a human child among them.

Also I like her leaf bag. The Tanemon totally made it for her.

We end with Ogremon gripping his broken horn and fricking sobbing. This... does not bode well.

so cast your votes, who gets the first hurt/comfort scene with Ogremon? Will it be gentle chastisement from Mimi while she patches him up with stuff from Sora’s pack? Or will it be Jou and the toilet paper you know he brought even if it makes no sense?!? hahahaha

I give this ep a 7/10 WELL DONE. That’s what a Digimon episode should be. Very close to VERY VERY GOOD.

I missed the trailer for next week so have more gratuitous Taichis instead.

"yeah. he misses you. he keeps asking about the poncho man idk"

when he wakes up the next day after watching two and a half hours of paw patrol with your son (he kept him entertained, seeing how exhausted you were, and allowed you to nap.) you're not there.

he heads into the kitchen where you've sat elias down with a bowl of cereal and you're dancing around to whatever's playing on the radio.

and he sees a box of his stuff next to the couch. everything he owns. you must've gotten it from the pool while he was asleep.

"what's going on, baby?"

"shit, yeah, um, you're moving in."

his heart explodes

and he's trying so hard not to cry

at the concept of having a home

and with you, nonetheless.

he's sure he's never been so in love.

but he cries anyway, when your back is turned, when he thinks you don't know.
