🧊 - Is their current design the first one?

no its not, their initial sketch they were smaller and had a different fit and different hairstyle but two days later i cleaned it up to what it is now(and over time i changed up their hair and gave them the pink jacket)

🧠 - What do you like most about the OC?

I really enjoy their current design and I really like their relationships with the other characters(especially leo, i love their father-child relationship and the fact that Leo needs Cass as much as cass needs leo[which i will elaborate on in the future]). Theyre very skrunkly and fun to draw :D

💀 - Does your OC have any phobias?

i havent yet put this into thought but i know that Cass eventually develops autophobia over time(which comes in to key later in the story where they get seperated from the majority of the crew except for princess[have i mentioned princess yet? shes a robot :3] and their over all terrfied because of this and also the uncertainity of what will happen to the crew, especially Leo)

yep!! im really happy about their design, funky purple alien who's Cass's older sibling :3 theres probably some subconcisous inspiration i took but i cant really remember at the moment :/

like cass they're also really fun to draw but I also like the silly mad scientist thing they got going on, always coming up with crazy new inventions and exploded things(as long as it doesn't cause toomuch damage, they don't want to get in trouble)

💀 - Does your OC have any phobias?

i gotta find the name of this but they really hate constant loud noises and get overstimulated often(he sometimes goes to sit along higher areas of the ship to work on projects of his alone, corvi often needs their space). They also have a fear of not being heard or listened to or being ignored(i forgor the name), before being adopted by Leo, he was often ignored by the others in the orphanage.

god i love how the twst novel characterizes trey and particularly what it does with his enabling of riddle's tyranny, how it uses this aspect of trey as a parallel to yuuya's intense anxiety and fear of confrontation and uses both of their characters to emphasize the consequences of avoiding conflict, and how you have to overcome that fear in order to do what's right, it's so fascinating to me and since i'm sure there are a lot of fans who haven't read the novel i wanna talk about it.

see, yuuya is written as someone who is so, so afraid of conflict that he doesn't let himself get close to anyone or even have any hobbies--he says he doesn't want to risk fighting with friends over a difference of opinion, and he's also afraid of finding something he's so passionate about that he doesn't want to let go of it, and having to fight to protect it. he practically avoids really living because he's just too scared of having to deal with any potential confrontation. throughout the novel there are times when yuuya wants to tell ace and deuce to stop fighting but can't get himself to say anything, and times when they ask him for his opinion but he avoids giving it so he won't have to upset anyone by picking a side. even when ace starts telling riddle off and calling him a tyrant at the unbirthday party, and everyone else is saying that ace is wrong, yuuya just stands there and does nothing--he knows he should have his friend's back but he freezes up, too terrified to speak.

and then trey... this will probably get a little long, so i'll put it under a read more, but oh, trey.

in book 1 of the game, when riddle has some poor student collared for not wearing pink to feed the flamingos, he tells trey and cater to escort the student away and they both just say "yes housewarden" and do it. in the novel, we have this additional moment:

notice how trey does not say this is okay, but he also doesn't exactly say it isn't. he doesn't really share an opinion on the situation at all, he just says there's nothing he can do, and then thinks to himself that he can't afford to think about it, can't risk letting riddle be pushed over the edge.

this is when ace, deuce, yuu, and grim then come in to ask trey about his friendship with riddle. in the game, grim asks him why he hasn't told riddle off already, given that he's the older of the two, and trey states that he doesn't think the situation calls for it because "these sorts of strict rules are what created riddle". but in the novel, it's deuce who asks trey "i know you're the vice housewarden, but you're older than riddle, right? wouldn't the housewarden listen to his elder?", and the way trey's response goes is a little different, with grim saying he must be scared of riddle and trey once again (well, twice actually) saying that he can't do anything about the situation:

he tells the rest of the group all about how riddle's parents are famous magical healers, how his mother planned out every single aspect of his life for him, how he obeyed every rule she set and had his signature spell mastered by age 10, and how riddle genuinely believes that the enforcement of strict rules is a service to his dorm members and he sees the violation of those rules as an inexcusable offense. grim wonders why this is and yuuya realizes the following, which is also a perfect explanation of why trey believes that standing up to riddle about his overly strict attitude would be rejecting him: "if riddle accepts that rules can be broken, then that's basically a rejection of his own self. because he was created by rules".

in both the game and the novel, trey then mentions that he knows how hard riddle's life has been and says he just can't bring himself to hold riddle's way of doing things against him, to which ace responds by telling him "so it's YOUR fault riddle is like this". but in the novel, yuuya is surprised because he didn't think trey bore any responsibility, and trey's response to the question of "you always thought what his parents did to him was wrong, didn't you?" is described like this:

it's very similar to the various descriptions throughout the book of yuuya desperately wanting to speak up but being unable to get the words out whenever there's any sign of conflict. clearly trey, like yuuya, is afraid, not necessarily of riddle himself but of having to hurt his friend by telling him he's doing something wrong, and in the novel ace calls him out on that:

(the dialogue at this part of the game is largely the same, but the sentences between "that's pathetic" and "you guys are supposed to be friends" are brand new).

and then, trey's response, or lack thereof is very telling:

what ace says to trey here even prompts yuuya to apologize to ace for not standing up for him before, because he empathizes with trey. he understands trey's inability to stop riddle, his fear of rocking the boat, the desire to avoid causing a conflict and upsetting his friend no matter what else happens, because it's exactly what he's been afraid of for his whole life. and as a result yuuya feels ashamed of himself and believes that ace was right to push trey the way he did. in response, ace tells yuuya that it's okay for him to not want to force himself into fights because, unlike trey, at least yuuya will tell ace if he thinks he's wrong.

but that's not enough for yuuya, who decides that he has to finally, finally stand up for ace and deuce when riddle has them collared and everyone is cheering for riddle during the duel. he walks right through the crowd and tells riddle that he doesn't even care who's wrong or right, he just wants the fighting to stop. it's a simple thing, but it's such a difficult step for him to take.

for trey, we know how this goes--just like in the game, he intervenes when riddle summons rose bushes to attack ace, because seeing his friend almost become a murderer is where he draws the line. in the novel, he also tells riddle that if this doesn't stop he'll only end up more and more alone. he reaches his hand out to his friend and tries to urge him to calm down.

of course, none of this goes the way either of them expected, and in the novel cater tries to get yuuya to agree that they should run from the danger of fighting riddle, but neither he nor trey will yield. so all of our main heartslabyul boys and ramshackle join together to find a way to win. and right after trey uses his magic to save cater from riddle, we get this dialogue:

and while what trey says after riddle escapes from his overblot state is basically the same as it is in the game, i think the description of his actions here is lovely:

and it may seem like a simple thing, to just be honest with a friend, but it's such a big step for trey to finally take with riddle, after spending so much time enabling his harmful behavior out of an incredibly flawed sense of loyalty toward him.

in the end, yuuya realizes that his way of living, spending his life stubbornly avoiding confrontation, had kept him from being able to make friends. similarly trey being so afraid of upsetting riddle that he hid his true feelings and let him do whatever he wanted, kept him from being able to be a true friend to him. they both learn to finally be brave enough to take action and to be honest with themselves and others, but yuuya mainly needed to learn the value of standing up for your friends while trey had to learn how important it is to stand up to them when necessary.

yuuya also says, after ace and deuce call him stubborn and opinionated, that he may have just hated bending his own principles more than he wanted to have friends, which i find really interesting because essentially part of yuuya's arc is to stop avoiding forming relationships with others for the sake of his principles, because true friends will have each other's backs even if they don't always agree on everything. and then part of trey's arc is to stop bending his principles for the sake of his relationship with riddle, because true loyalty goes hand-in-hand with honesty. and while i feel like you could figure a lot of this out about trey just by reading between the lines a bit in-game, i love how the novel really brings it to the forefront by making their arcs parallel each other like this.

DPXDC Prompt #142 Part 2

His parents had spent years working on their portal, to the point where they were neglecting their own children. Danny didn’t know any better, neither did Jazz. To them it was just how their family ran and for the most part it worked for them. It allowed Danny to really study space and the Stars. His room was covered with different ship models on the shelves, glow in the dark stars on the ceiling and posters on the walls.

Jazz had similarly explored her own thoughts and topics as she studied Psychology. Her room was more feminine but still had a certain scientific decorum to it.  

He never thought that he’d suddenly be ripped from all the things he loved. But here he was with the trench coat man, instead of taking some biology class or something.

“What happened with the portal?” Danny asked.

The man took a long sigh, “listen… quite a lot of shit went down after your accident.” 

“That tells me nothing,” Danny glared at the man.

“I get your upset kid, but let me at least know your name. Mine's John Constantine,” 

“…Danny,” Danny muttered after a moment. He wasn’t sure he trusted the man but he guessed he had no choice. He was also noticing he felt a bit off, it was the weirdest gut feeling and Danny was having trouble telling exactly what the feeling was. It was like the feeling was telling him to trust John, although at the same time John had this weird feeling about him that had Danny feeling weary. He decided to trust John just a little, hopefully it got him back home, after a moment Danny spoke again, “…Can you at least tell me if the portal worked?”

The room was silent for a moment and then John spoke “Alright, fine, I’ll tell you what happened but some background first, do you know who the ancients are?” 

The name didn’t sound familiar, “Ancients? Like Ancient Aliens or something?” 

“No, no…” John took a swig from a flask in his pocket and then started fiddled with an unlit cigarette he pulled from a different pocket. He then looked Danny up and down, “You don’t know the first thing about the infinite realms do you?”

“The what?” None of this was making any sense and the more Danny talked to this guy the more he was getting a feeling of dread in the pit of his stomach. Something about this conversation felt wrong, like Danny should know all of this already but he just didn’t. 

“Right well… I guess the easiest way to explain this is the portal your parents made was to the infinite realms.” John said, putting the cigarette in his mouth.

“My parents called it the Ghost Zone.” Danny muttered.

John seemed to chuckle at that, “I mean it is mainly inhabited by ghosts, however they aren’t the only ones, far from it in fact. I’m sorry but… I couldn’t allow your parents unlimited access to the realms. I had to disable it and prevent it from being reactivated.”

Danny felt a little disheartened after hearing that, he guessed John was probably right though. He remembered hearing his parents talk about how they’d dissect every ghost they found to study them. The bully’s at his school often bullied Danny over it especially after his dad and mom would continually embarrass him on parent teacher nights and on field trips.

Danny let out a small sigh, “so when can I go home?”

John looked a little surprised, his eyebrow quirked up, “so you're unaware of your situation right now?”

“Situation?” Danny trailed off, he remembered getting shocked and then he remembered waking up here, “where are we?”

John let out another sigh, “shit, well from my research you're supposed to know everything about your powers when you wake up.”

This made no sense to Danny, powers? Danny didn’t have powers, he didn't have the meta-gene.

“Powers? I don’t have the meta-gene. I think you have the wrong person.” Danny stated as he folded his arms in front of himself.

“Then how are you floating?” John asked with a smirk.

Danny looked down and he indeed was floating just an inch off the bed, he wondered when that started but the feeling threw him off a little as he stumbled a little trying to keep himself upright. It didn’t work and he fell back down on the bed with a little thud. He turned to see John watching him with a small hint of amusement in his eyes. 

“What am I?” Danny asked, his voice small and a little panicked.

“You, Danny Fenton, are an Ancient. I know the term makes it seem like you're old but the term is more because your people are ancient in age.” The explanation made no sense to Danny but he could somehow float now. He thought the term ‘Ancient’ was a little much for some floating powers.

rereading 17776 rn and noticing that Nine’s hesitance to accept their new reality is something I didn’t fully take in before. Like a majority of their concerns are all focused on the idea of purpose, which actually makes a lot of sense for them to solely be hooked on that specific concern. Nine was built with the intent of space exploration and to help humans achieve that goal. Being thrown into a reality where that purpose has essentially died and doesn’t really exist anymore would be very alarming for someone whose whole reason of existence is that specific thing. but like,, we can all tell that twilight has got some Trust Issues, maybe for good reasons due to job and whatever hell his childhood was, but still. He gets suspicious of everyone, he lies a fuck ton, especially in regards to his emotions. I mean dammit he lied to nightfall about why he didn't kill yuri in the wheeler arc, idk if the lie was more for nightfall or himself

but like the thing that he's building with yor is different. like yeah he is still lying a ton, he might think yor is lying about her strength/childhood/whatever at least on some sort of subconscious level, but he is still trusting her a lot more than he usually does. To keep this fake marriage a secret, to help with Anya, to not fuck it up with Melinda. and I think as the series goes on he'll just open up more, get more comfortable around her. And although he is not there rn, he'll start to really actually trust her in a way that he never has before

So, when he finds out that she's been lying to him, not just a lie but one as big as his, it's going to Fuck Him Up. like he finally opens up to someone and it ends up that she is basically almost everything he's ever feared, someone who goes and systematically murders entire organizations (i can for ages about the Garden, i don't trust them, but that's distracting)

and like, as hypocritical as it would be, I think he would be mad at her, and even more mad at himself. her for lying about something so dangerous, and himself for a) being mad at her when he is doing the same thing, b) himself for allowing himself to have emotions for someone and letting them hurt him. And it'll all be really messy emotions, shit that he has never dealt with before, and he just. won't know how to handle it. Cause you can't really train for that

anyway, I want to draw a recent post-reveal comic where twilight is just, angry and not handling shit well and gets drunk, and goes home and fights with yor and feels really bad about it, idk have a weird late night talk with Anya where she says one of those weirdly smart things kids sometimes say, then he and yor make up and make out sloppy style afterwards

HII okay so i just wanted to say regarding red still being in the cave for the minecraft arc right now !!

i knowwww it seems kind of slow right now (beforehand i was just getting through asks slowly & also letting you guys have fun with interacting with red) annnd it might be kind of slow for a littleee bit longer

but there is good reason !!!

although this is a heavy IF I CAN so do not have high expectations !!! but for a certain story progression™ part without spoiling it, i want to try animating it, or at the very least make it an "animatic"-ish thing ?? its not gonna be long literally just a few seconds probably, & i already have it storyboarded so ill TRY to do it, but i am still really new to animation so once again dont have super high expectations but ill try to make it cool !!!!

worse case scenario if i cant animate it, ill just draw the stuff i have storyboarded and just render it and maybe make it similar to this post aka just putting the photos in video format so its still a slightly cool thing !!

BUT POINT IS itll take me a bit, i wanna guesstimate and say either tomorrow or monday i might be able to have it done because its not too long, but this also means story-wise red is still gonna be in that cave until then, so you guys can go wild with asks and silly stuff and ill still answer them in between this !!

originally i was gonna get to certain story progression point™ yesterday, but then i didnt get to all the asks, so i was gonna get it done today, until halfway through the day i was like "hmm what if i animate this instead ??" and here we are LMAO i hope this isnt an issue :,D

and ill still answer with drawings !!! i have 2 files of red in the cave far away & close up and its easier for me so the background and all is the same and less work because theres no point for me to redraw the same thing 50 times (i say that although i do that when animating LMAO) so itll literally take me like 30 mins max to answer each ask because all id have to draw is arms or face or objects ect ect you get the point !!

and theres someee asks (aka the only ones i have left </3) that arent certain story progression point™ but it builds up or alludes to it so i didnt wanna answer those and not be able to post until i finish POTENTIALLY animating this, because it wouldnt make sense to fit silly stuff between that ect ect ect its just my own silly organization

ALSO the asks dont even have to be silly literally they can be serious or anything, i just wont answer any yet that i might use to build up to something, but like uhh ask red the meaning of life or about his friends or give him $500 or ask to look around the cave but you get the point !!
