Hi I'm back again

Sorry for any bad takes, while I've done lore dives for other media in the past I've never hyperfixated as much as I have with Rain World. The complete and total void of information about so many things in this game has driven me to the brink of insanity so every little detail I notice I'm like "ah what if this is actually important and lore related and mmm wild speculation"

Also I fricking feel like I'm apologizing way too much. What you said about artistic choice and stuff makes total sense-- I haven't really drawn ancients except for some stupid little doodles (and yeah, their hair is hard. the little circles make way more sense as 'shape defining artistic feature' rather than 'possible lore detail') and I have no idea what I'm doing anyways BUT I am going to offer a very small and completely nonsensical defense for my tentacle-hair-bone-thing theory cause I honestly just think it would be funny if they had cactus skulls

Different topic-- I absolutely think that the ancients practiced some form of limb-binding. The difference in feet sizes between some of the images of them, the cloth wrappings, the fact that iterators don't (canonically) have 'feet' feet... I also think some ancients may have done the same to their hands? I mean, look at the karma 4 mural. That dude has weird hands. And feet. And way too many tits. Ancients are just fricking weird.

Hawk’s true self

This is just me rambling about Hawk’s character because there’s just so much to theorize and talk about. it’s probably way too long and congested so I apologize in advance

In the first arc he’s introduced in, he keeps saying how he has no self control. He says this twice and even shows it at the billboard charts where he starts speaking his thoughts. But later on as the story progresses we see that Hawks has exceptional control of himself, more specifically his emotions and his behavior. He’s so good at hiding his true feelings that it’s the reason the commission chooses him to be a double agent with the league of villains. 

It’s likely that Hawks was trained as a child for this sort of espionage activity since he himself says that he was taught negotiation skills at an early age. This is why Endeavor can’t tell when he’s being serious because Hawks always acts jokingly around him. Hawks knows this, which is why he acted so serious when giving Endeavor the coded book to let him know something was off. Some say Hawks is a chaotic neutral, and that definitely fits with how he acted during the billboard awards. However you could say he is actually lawful neutral, and is someone who always gets done what needs to be done. He wanted to support Endeavor as the number one hero and he did whatever was needed to do so. In the same way, whatever the commission wants him to do, he gets done. I think it’s clear that there are two sides to Hawks, or Keigo Takami. The chaotic and easy going hero persona, and the lawful and controlled commission pawn. I personally think that the easy going persona is how hawks really feels or how he wants to be, but after being drilled into what is essentially a child soldier, he can’t shake off what he has been trained into becoming. 

One aspect that I find interesting is how baby Keigo says he wants to be like Endeavor, but as an adult he insists that he wants the freedom of the lower ranks and that his “back isn’t wide enough”. I think this is a combination of realizing that the hero world isn’t all what he thought it was (”there are no true heros”) and knowing that as a commission pawn, his role is to work in espionage which isn’t suited to the number 1 hero. His desire that he wants all heroes to “take it easy” and how he wants to be lower in the ranks could be hinting at how he’s actually secretly tired of working for the commission or even being a hero since it’s not what he signed up for (he got roped in when he was like 4 there’s no way he knew what he was signing up for). I think Keigo definitely enjoys being a hero and wanted to be a hero, but baby keigo specifically said “shine brightly”. He wanted to shine brightly like Endeavor but instead he’s being forced to hide in the shadows and constantly lie to be people, which he stated he dislikes doing. He’s not doing the double agent job because he wants to, he’s doing it because he “has no choice” which are is own words. Heroes normally have a choice when it comes to jobs, don’t they? They are free to choose what kind of hero they want to be. But Keigo never had a choice. He owes his life and success to the commission and has been groomed to stay loyal to them. He’s a bird locked in a cage, and he even tells this to twice when asked why he sympathizes with the villains. I don’t think he was lying because the easiest way to lie is when there’s truth mixed in. And Hawks genuinely liked twice.

Now to the recent events in the manga, where things get interesting. Hawks has been getting some heat with what he did to twice but I think this moment is what solidifies all my speculations and everything I said up until this point. Hawks is good at controlling himself. However in these chapters you can see him slowly breaking down. He desperately tries to hide this fact by outright stating things like “I don’t get attached” when dabi calls him out for getting attached right after, and being very forceful and distant when facing twice. I won’t get too much into this scene cause I’ve seen other people do a better job at analyzing it and this is my first time writing about a show, ever, but basically Hawks is having difficulty separating his emotions from his duty. This is the first conflict we see between true easy going hawks and loyal commission hawks. However in the past we haven’t seen much evidence as to how connected or manipulated Hawks is with the commission. For all we know he could have been working for them willingly or quit whenever he wanted to. That all changes with all the bombshells this chapter, including baby hawks, which I talked about in the previous paragraph. With this scene, we have come to realize what the commission really means to hawks. He’s so desperate to keep his loyalty to them that I think he’s behaving rather strangely with twice and not as any other hero would. I think a normal hero would have thought that if they can’t capture him now, they would retreat and ambush them later (considering dabi in close quarters is a horrible match up for hawks and he knows it) but hawks is thinking, “If he doesn’t give up I need to *kill* him.” I don’t think any hero in bnha so far has “killed” a villain or even thought to “kill” a villain (nomus are basically dead already so that doesn't count). It’s always been defeat and capture. I’m sure Hawks could knock him unconscious but he’s desperate and tries to make up for his wavering loyalty by killing twice, the exact opposite of what he truly wants to do. He finally breaks when dabi calls his real name “Keigo Tamaki”, the name the commission forced him to abandon. The reminder of his true self is what caused Hawks to waver so much in loyalty that he went straight for the kill, almost to kill any last remaining chances of letting his emotions take over. This is what I mean when I said this moment is what solidifies my theories on his character. The commission means so much to him, or has manipulated him so much that in order to keep his loyalty to him, he kills someone he thought was a good person. This just shows how deep the brainwashing has gone to Hawks. Why is he so desperate to keep his alignment with the commission? Because he has no identity outside of them. They have guided and controlled him his entire life and as much as he wants to be free, he’s been trained to never betray them. He’s a man that does whatever it takes to get things done and in that moment he thought he had to stop twice, stop his wavering loyalty, stop his questioning of heros.

tldr; Hawks wanted to be a hero that shines brightly but the commission forced him to become the opposite, making him see hero society for what it really is, a corporate industry for money and fame. He seemingly accepts this, seeing how he talked about the importance of popularity at the billboard awards, but Endeavor still holds a sentimental place in his heart as a great hero that shines brightly. This explains why he doesn’t like all might, he sees him as a “too perfect” hero, almost too good to be true, while endeavor breaks down barriers, even when it’s impossible. Also Hawks has a bias against Endeavor because he saved him as a kid. 

Well this got off track real fast, *real tldr;*: Hawks has two sides to him which worked together, as easy going hawks just accepted his own situation, and the fact that he’s a pawn for the commission. The commission are the good guys so he doesn’t really care that they control him. He’s just that selfless of a guy. However after having to betray people he likes, his morality and sense of loyalty wavers and in the end his commission self overwrites what he truly wanted to do.

This is important because the commission self needs to be established as the one controlling Hawks before his character can get broken down and get development, and in the end his true self can prevail and he can be free.

I have always got the feeling that Hawks is a selfless person. He got roped into being the kind of hero he didn't want to be but accepts it because he knows the heros are the good guys and in the end he's helping people. It doesn't matter that he's not where he truly wants to be. He's been so brainwashed by the commission that he believes his own feelings don't matter either.

I’m looking forward to how the story goes but I almost don’t want to get my expectations too high in case things go nothing the way I expect. It’s going to be torture waiting for season 5 to come out. Even the weekly chapters are starting to be torture lol

In conclusion;

I REALLY liked this show. It had some flaws (a few overacted scenes - not enough time and arc to really give some of the storylines they were trying to do justice - killing Dick) but overall I thought it was well done and hit just the right note emotionally.

As for the performances, I really enjoyed everyone’s performance. I didn’t feel like one person stood out over the rest - I enjoyed them all equally (despite my above love of Rock but that was more just a few moments that I found hilarious or adorable in an oafish kind of way lol)

I felt like Darren did a really good job with what he had to work with (and I don’t know if it’s because of how I feel about Darren but I wish he could have had more).

Overall? I’ll definitely be rewatching this show and can’t wait to talk about it more!

after waking up at 8am to for work, y/n was more than ecstatic for it to be nearing 8:15, when she would finish work.

"this is a customer announcement, the time is 7:45pm and this store will be closing in 15 minutes, please make your way to the nearest cash register, thank you." the voice spoke, the voice that whenever y/n was on a close shift got her all giddy and excited for the end of work.

her floor was empty, but she had to remain on tills just in case. everyone else was tidying the shop floor ready for the following morning.

"crap i am so sorry!" a voice said pulling her out of her thoughts, "i completely lost track of time!" she looked up to see a very handsome man around her age rushing to her till with 3 full baskets.

"crikey, i'm guessing you'll need a bag." she giggled.

"please." he said with a smile. she got out a bag and wafted it open.

"so, big shop, huh?" she said trying to make conversation. she was generally silent in this situation, social interactions weren't her strong point but she was trying to improve herself as an employee.

"yeah, i'm going home after a few months of... travelling, i guess and my brothers would kill me if i didn't bring them back lots of things." he laughed.

"how many brothers you got?" she asked.

"umm there's harry and sam, they're twins a couple years younger and then there's patrick... paddy he's only 14." he said with a smile.

"that's cool, i have one brother, he's older that's it." she laughed in return.

"so, since this may take a while, what are your life plans?" he asked.

"that changed drastically, but umm, i guess for now just save my money from working to travel, i'm currently at uni and after i hope to take a gap year or something."

"what are you studying?"

"medicine and surgery, but shh don't tell my manager, at my interview i said i wanted to go into retail but i only said that so that i could get the job. i've been here since i was 16."

"that is wow, a doctor that's impressive."

she got another back and continued scanning his items. she noticed some items for a dog.

"you have a dog?" she asked.

"yeah, a blue staff, she's 4, but she's not dangerous at all or anything."

"oh no, you don't have to- you umm, i have two staffies as well, i mean, kind of, ones a cross but he still has staffie in him and-" she stopped herself, "sorry i'm rambling i just love dogs." she smiled.

"me too, tell me about yours?" he asked. she got out another bag and smiled.

"of course umm, so there's maddie, she's almost 13 she's a pure staffie and we got her when she was a puppy for christmas and she is the sweetest, i grew up with her. and then there's harley, he's almost 4, we rescued him about 2 years ago, and he has some... behavioural issues, but he's really good at home mostly, he's incredible with maddie but pretty much any other dog he's so scared he goes into attack mode so we have to muzzle him and stuff. he's a staffie cross patterdale... we think... i mean, like i said, he's a rescue and yeah." she laughed.

"they sound incredible, maddie sounds a lot like my tessa." he laughed.

"what do you do for a living?" she asked him.

"i umm, i'm kind of, okay don't freak out, i'm kind of an actor."

"hmm, your face does seem familiar, but i don't know who you are really, what've you been in?"

"i was, i was in the impossible, have you seen that?"

"nope."

"i'm getting the tram home too, i'm staying at, okay i shouldn't tell you but i trust you, but i'm staying at the castle."

"i didn't want to say it." he laughed.

"hang around outside by the bookstore at the end on the left as you exit, after 8pm we have to leave through the back. so... i'll see you in 15?"

Okay, enough of my rambling! Another note I also wanted to add before we cut to the read more (I know, I never know when to stop talking lol) but the first part of this “walkthrough” (if you can call it that because we all know I’m not the best at explaining things) will be focusing on hopefully getting Finesharp to work with avisynth for you. I’m hoping that this is a successful attempt but if it isn’t, please do contact me because I may know of another way to make Finesharp work and I’m determined to have it up and running for you 💖 Okay, now on to the good stuff~ (finally!)

I’ve seen a few people experience issues with the Finesharp feature which is both baffling and frustrating! I might have a solution, but sadly I’m yet to have it tried and tested on someone else other than myself so I can’t be certain that it’ll work, but it never hurts to try, right? Fortunately it’s easy to do and nothing too taxing so I can give a quick run down of it for you! ^^ If this method doesn’t work, please please please do message me again telling me so because from what I gather, there may be another solution to the Finesharp issue but I wanted to go down this path first just in case it’s related to plugins.

First, what you want to do is download these plugins:

PLUGINS FOLDER

Now what we want to do is unzip the folder, select all the content inside and copy them!

Now what you want to do is follow the path:

(C:) > Program Files (x86) > Avisynth 2.5 > Plugins

Now all we do is simply paste in everything we copied from the previous folder! ^^

I’m hoping that is a solution and helps, but like i said earlier, please do message me asap if the problem still persists! 💖

Okay, so first off we’re gonna start with a basic, unedited live stage gif. No colouring, no sharpening, no topaz etc. just these settings pasted into avsPmod grabbed from the resizer:

In order to include Finesharp in the video clip, make sure this little checkmark is activated!The resizer never shows you any effects settings have on your clip so I always mess around with settings in avspmod when I’ve pasted the code from the resizer in. It should look something like this:

RED ARROW - This is where the finesharp option will be and where you’ll be able to play around with settings and values. GREEN ARROW - This is the finesharp setting! At the moment I have it set to 0 to make things easier.BLUE ARROW - This is the little slider that you use to increase or decrease the finesharp strength. 

While I can’t be certain that the settings I share will fit every video/live stage, I hope it’s a good starting point for you to begin with and hopefully you can use it to help you with getting familiar with it

For argument’s sake, I set the finesharp slider to 5, the maximum strength to show you the results and effect it has.

Nice! 1.7 we can definitely work with with this gif. Not every clip will work with that value/setting and it does require some trial and error at times but sometimes it’s nice to start off with a familiar setting and either increase or decrease as you see fit. 💖

So all you have to do once you’re happy with the sharpening of your clip is trim and save and let avisynth do the work~ 

Once it’s all saved and your clip has been processed and you import it into photoshop, you should have the foundations of a gif! This is what mine looks like with finesharp 1.7 added to it, unedited (no psd, no topaz, no adjustments etc.)

and then all you need to do is add your usual adjustments (topaz, colouring etc.) and we end up with this result!

So… that’s pretty much the basics of finesharp for live stages! Pretty straight forward and basically all it does is cut out the smart sharpen step in photoshop.

However, do I think it’s necessary and it’s the be all end all in your giffing process? Nope, not at all! If anything, I do think that sharpening in photoshop gives you more control over the look and strength of the gif sharpness, but finesharp is still a good tool to have in your arsenal and it’s nice to have the option! Below is the same gif (pre topaz and psd) using smart sharpen

As you can see, it’s crisp and clear but slightly softer around the edges than finesharp and ideal for that “natural” sharpened look but of course, lowering the finesharp value will give you a similar result! 

and then adding all that I did with the previous gif (topaz, psd) we have this:

I guess it’s all down to personal preference but I just wanted to add this in here to show you that there is definitely more than one way to cook an egg and all ways are perfectly fine and all give great results! ^^

Now that I’ve covered the important (i hope) parts of using finesharp in live stages, we can move on to—

MUSIC VIDEOS

Uh… okay confession time~ I don’t actually use finesharp for most of my mv gifs and i rarely even sharpen in photoshop! i just use the debilinear option in the resizer and leave it at that (this is usually how I set it as in resizer)

and remember what I said earlier about debilinear adding a “natural sharpness” to clips? this is what a gif looks like with those settings (again, i rarely even add topaz to smaller gifs from mvs unless it’s a very busy background)

For larger gifs however, I do add some finesharp but never go past 1.0 in strength (but again, this is completely up to you how high or low you go, it’s all about taking personal preference and video quality into account)

for a 268x350 gif on this particular scene, this is what I put in:

and this was the result~

Now to add finishing touches (I usually add topaz to larger gifs just to polish them of a little)

Annnnnd…. I think that’s it? I think I’ve covered the basics and everything I know (at least off the top of my head) so I think this is a good time to finish this excessively long…. walkthrough? guide? :’)
