*takes a deep breath* Okay. I shall provide you with the basic information. This will take forever but I AM READY (just transferred a bunch of screenshots from my Switch to my phone to give visuals lmao)

Under the cut because this includes massive spoilers for Miitopia

Marty is the hero of our game, just a regular guy from a place called Greenhorne. He came to Greenhorne town only to find it attacked by the so called Dark Lord (who I made Edna in this game). Edna steals the faces off Miis and plants them on monsters so they gain power and fight Marty. Marty agrees to go on a quest to find and defeat the Dark Lord. So far, so good.

On the quest, he meets other Miis willing to help him. Those are Jennifer, Paul (from the Pinheads) and Linda. They fight and stuff (and rescue King Sam and Princess Lorraine as well as help Lorraine convince her dad to marry her childhood friend George instead of the prince Biff that Sam wants her to marry. Guys those roles were PERFECT for them I swear. George was spineless in this game and had the perfect color scheme, and Biff ws absolutely useless. 10/10 casting from my part), but as soon as they get to the next kingdom, the Dark Lord straight up kidnaps Marty's friends and he's all alone again :(

I said Marty was left alone? Well, not completely. He's not alone in spirit - because in Greenhorne, he has had an encounter with the Great Sage Doc, who has saved his life with his magic (you can see where this is going). Marty meets him again in Neksdor, as well as his new party members - Dave, young Emmett, and 1986B Jennifer (I was legit running out of BTTF characters because I had a lot of the townspeople be characters like Seamus and Maggie. And Clara is my horse. She's a purple unicorn. Oh and my quizmaster is Bill Nye which, also, is 10/10 casting. I am proud of myself)

In this new desert land called Neksdor (pun of "next door"), Marty and team fight a pharaoh before having to move on to the next kingdom. Oh and unhinged versions of my OCs because, again, I was running out of BTTF characters. I even gave Western Union Guy and Terry the car mechanic roles.

Next up, we had to go through the Realm Of The Fey, a fairy/elf kindgom. Once again, Edna kidnapped all my friends so I had to cast my OCs as new party members.

I cast server friends as the Fab Fairies because I SWEAr Bobby G doesn't have enough female characters in this franchise.

@bg-sparrow was the eldest Fab Fairy and I had to fight her as an owl. I'm so sorry BG lmao

After finishing off this kingdom, Marty got to head to Krakaton, where the Dark Lord hides out. His friends are once again kidnapped, and - much worse - Edna stole their faces, too!!

Marty discovers his friends with no faces and is absolutely devastated.

Enter the Great Sage.

The best part began: Doc joined Marty's team! Yay! Together, they went to rescue Marty's friends and had some endearing moments along the way :)

Look at them. They're buddies. I love them.

In the end of this mission, they manage to rescue all of Marty's friends and Doc leaves again. And now, we are approaching the final battle against the Dark Lord in Edna's castle retreat.

That battle was surprisingly easy and BOOM, Marty wins!! Congrats!

But the game is far from over. It turns out that Edns was in fact possessed by the so called Dark Curse, and now the Curse is looking for a new body. Naturally, it attacks Marty, being angry with him for defeating the Dark Lord.

And then Doc appears and saves Marty once again.

Sacrificing himself in the process.

Yep - Doc is a villain now. And he's even more powerful than ever before, due to his Great Sage powers. This is heavy, am I right?

Marty is absolutely heartbroken :( But Jennifer hypes him up jsgfdjhs

Now, Marty, his team and this kind dragon named Dominic have to chase Darker Lord Doc and defeat him to free the Great Sage

After Marty had to do a bunch of side quests collecting jewels that open the entrance to Doc's hideout, the Sky Scraper...

...he stood in front of its gates, wondering whether he was making the right choice...

(I clicked No. Marty, being the selfless guy he is, did not think about himself afer a moment of consideration. It's funny, Marty never refers to the Darker Lord and Doc as the same person. It's so wholesome)

And now, here we are. I'm on my way to the final FINAL boss of this game, but this plot is absolutely destroying me. This Mii RPG game has no right to be this angsty like. Why.

Okay, after an embarrassing amount of time skimming dialogue and the internet I think I figured out the Lord thing.

Now I think you’re absolutely correct in assuming Bryon is teasing Lorsan because Lorsan hates being called ‘Lord’, however I do genuinely think Lorsan counts as a Lord. Just not by the definition you’re thinking of.

Now I did quick actually have a conversation about Lorsan’s lore with you a while ago. I’m gonna attach a screenshot below cus it’s partially relevant (and to save you the scrolling because it’s already kinda buried rip)

(bare with me, this is super long. I know I’m yappy)

To start Lorsan is 100% still considered a prodigy in Journey. When you first encounter Bryon in the dark forest we get the following dialogue -

And when prompted with “Do you also possess wind whispering ability?” (Yea the grammar isn’t great in this game)

And later on we get -

(Wandering Tangent time: It isn’t actually stated that Lorsan flunked in school. Now I can definitely see where that comes from since the Jade Academy quest with him reveals he absolutely *HATED* his school years. In one of the dialogue sections of that quest he outright says he never listened in class and instead learns everything he needs to know from traveling in the dark forest. So he was definitely still super smart just a terrible student lmao

I would also like to throw out a personal anecdote and say that as someone who did well in school when I was younger I also absolutely hated school. When school is easy it gets incredibly boring and to me it makes sense that Lorsan’s not the type to sit in one place for too long with nothing to do. Not a super important tidbit but I think it adds character :3 )

Now you’re probably asking: where tf are you going with this? Good question! I have never once claimed to concise, apologies.

So Lorsan is smart and considered to be way above his peers in regards to wind whispering, what the hell does that have to do with the ‘Lord’ thing?

He definitely doesn’t own land and he definitely isn’t of noble lineage, but I would like to introduce you to this specific definition of the word lord:

Lorsan is a lord cus he’s just really good at his job lmao. To bring back the earlier dialogue he’s “specifically renowned for his mastery in wind whispering”. So there you have it! He’s shown mastery in a field and great power as a magical prodigy and Bryon will not let him live it down. Ever.

TJIS IS SO CUTE AND FUNNY 😭😭 and I think it makes sense! I compliment the references, especially cause Dialoge can be tricky to pull or find. (Lorsan is a prodigy in windwhispering but is easily distracted and can’t sit still… ADHD Lorsan real)

Imagine Bryon being fed up with Lorsan’s gloating and going “my apologies, Lord of the wind 😐😐 goodness, I should not have questioned the great and intellectual lord of the wind 😐😐 I’m so sorry my lord 🤦🤦” considering Lorsan is annoyed enough that he tells him to stop also means this has been a long term thing 💀 I might have to draw this out as a comic

i was tagged by @renegadeem DAYS ago (sowwy for how late this is!) so... it is time!

valenwind--i mean... come on LOL this one has been with me since i was 11 or 12 (over a decade now!). extremely foundational and, even when i wasn't actively into FF7, has been on my mind ever since i played the game years ago. something something red and blue gays, something something dark hair and blonde hair, something something short and tall. they just fulfill so many good "tropes" and also god i just like these characters SO much its unbelievable. i cannot wait for (what i hope is) the sheer amount of screenshots and screen records of the third part of FF7:R when they are PLAYABLE. the party banter... oh lord...

VKaz--ok... so i am actually a massive Metal Gear Solid fan. i got into it around-ish the same time as i got into FF7 and wow did it change my brain chemistry. there are a few MGS ships that are bone deep in me, but VKaz does something else to me. its blinding. its visceral. its like... wow. it doesn't help that Kaz is probably my favorite character in the game and Venom is sooooo. yeah. cute... idk! but i could probably talk about these guys for literally hours. and it would be incomprehensible. ik this is my squeenix blog but if anyone ever wants to talk MGS with me...

tie (sorry LOL) between akusai and stakhemy--those are so so so different but whatever LOL. akusai is also ages old, one of my first ships. i actually used to be much more into xemsai but akusai has taken the reins. KH is also a decade+ interest of mine (my late childhood/early teen trifecta was KH, FF7, and MGS) so i have so much to say... also i think i am in love with Saix lowkey. now, stakhemy is a new one and much more niche (any Pathologic fans?). i made one of the best character/ship spotify playlists ever for those guys. whenever i think of Rubin i become a little ill. i just find them so fascinating (Patho is super interesting on its own anyways).

first ship: whoooo boy. probably Link/Sheik? LoZ was like. my first ever THING i got into. i used to play pretend in my yard wearing a green tunic and a green santa hat i cut the puff off of to live out my Twilight Princess Link dreams. if not Link/Sheik, then probably xemsai.

last song: Respite On The Spitalfields by Ghost (on a massive Ghost kick because of a friend, its all ive been listening to... my favorite by them is Twenties and/or I Believe)

last TV show: i just watched the 5th episode of Interview with the Vampire this morning with a bestie, but the last show i finished was True Detective season 1 (for the 2nd time... i'm obsessed.. i have a sideblog...)

currently reading: i have been trying to finish Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman for over a year atp but 1. i am a slow ass reader, 2. i started it over already, 3. something sad happened so i got discouraged, 4. im so busy and am trying to learn to get better about reading (ADHD moment)

currently eating: nothing atm but i did have a creme brulee cream puff from one of my fav bakeries (shouldn't have spent the money but my name change court hearing was a success so i celebrated <3)

currently craving: im always craving something i love food LOL honestly the first thing that came into my head was a smoothie... but i also love all Asian cuisine and there's this amazing place nearby that has a bomb Pad See-Ew

Over the expacs, what’s been your favourite raid or dungeon bosses?

Hey, Anon! Sorry this took so long, but I wanted to give this some real thought. So I've never been much of a raider. I just didn't find it too exciting to treat WoW like a part-time job. I dabbled in Vanilla, but never did anything after Zul'Gurub. There was a bit in late BC when my small guild and another one joined forces to run Karazhan for awhile (I don't know that we ever got as farther than chess). But it wasn't til the introduced LFR that I ever saw raids while they were new with any real frequency (I know, I am a filthy casual). My endgame has usually been more PvP and alts. But! That leaves a zillion dungeons and the raid experiences I have had so let's see…

When I think of dungeons in Vanilla, I think of Blackrock Spire. I have a great fondness for General Drakkisath in UBRS, for having someone kite him all over the place. And the Beast! Taking the punt from the Beast. Eventually getting the Chromatic Carapace and starting down that road. Those were really fun times. But also Bal'nazaar in Strat, which was a really fun surprise and also, uh, something I actually have a screenshot of. :)

In BC, it's all about the Blackheart the Inciter fight in Shadow Labyrinth. "Slaughter yourselves for my amusement!" That was a wacky one, especially the first time you saw it. It was also cool, as a non-raider, to get to fight Kaelthas in Magister's Terrace. But also, in Auchenai Crypts, Shirrak the Dead Watcher. The first time you came to that bridge and saw that guy, that was memorable.

Wrath is really hard to pin down. I'm actually really partial to Utgarde Keep. But it kinda has to be the Lich King chasing you out of Halls of Reflection. That was such a tense encounter. Unsurprisingly, I don't have any screenshots. But, looking through my screenshots, I just found out we did Naxxramus in 2009! I have no memory of this!

Who knew?? I bet the same friend who made us an alliance with a bigger guild to do Kara was behind this, but I completely forgot about it.

First boss that comes to mind in Cataclysm is in the Stonecore, your friend and mine, Ozruk. Like many of you, I am certain, the first time he yelled "Break yourselves upon my body!" my group cracked up laughing. I think we might have even wiped from laughing too hard. He's got a great song, too! But for Cata, it has to be Deathwing. The fight on his back is probably the most memorable instance fight in the expansion, for good or ill.

Mists actually has a whole lot of my favorite dungeon and raid bosses. Stormstout Brewery was pretty unique, with the Ook Ook fight being pretty great. I liked the Sha of Fear fight, with the teleporting to different platforms and all. The Paragons in Siege of Orgrimmar are memorable. I did so much for those bastards. Having to fight them all was mean. I think the Thunder King raid is one of the best raids of all time, top to bottom, and the Thunder King himself was a really cool fight.

Warlords is actually harder to remember. Nitrogg Thundertower on the Grimrail Depot train was really cool. I remember hating basically every minute of the Everbloom... Ner'zhul in Shadowmoon Burial Grounds had good atmosphere. I enjoyed Highmaul, but did not like that final raid at all, nor the remake of my beloved UBRS. Oh, High Sage Vyrix, that was a cool fight. Man. That Archimonde fight. I swear, it took like 15 tries in LFR. I never went back after we finally won.

I've expressed my complicated feelings about Legion before, but it had some fun dungeons. The fight in the dark in Vault of the Wardens was really cool. Maw of Souls' fight with Freyja was cool, tearing up the back of that boat. But not a whole lost stands out to me, dungeon & raid wise.

BfA. I liked the Ghuun fight. The Azshara fight, and also the swimming one with the big eel. That whole final raid was pretty interesting, with a good final battle. Some cool things in there. But the best was Lord and Lady Waycrest in Waycrest Manor, with the big pipe organ. That was cool.

In Shadowlands, I liked almost everything in the first raid. Some really fun things in there, and Denathrius especially. The Tarragrue fight in the 2nd raid was really fun with the anima powers. And the Eye of The Jailer fight making you grapple across that gap was fun.

I have weirdly very few memories of Dragonflight dungeons & raids, apart from fighting Fyrakk over and over trying to get that damn axe. My RNG is legendarily bad. 11 tries and nothing yet. I don't think I played dungeons too much after the first couple of months, and didn't get too into the first 2 raids. Think I did them once each. Honestly, Dragonflight has found me playing alts harder than ever, so between that and PVP, I've done a lot fewer instances. But I do like that they incorporated dragonriding into one dungeon and the 2nd to last fight in Amirdrassil.

And that is my long, long answer. I'm sure I'll remember something I should've mentioned as soon as I hit post. Thanks for the ask!

Netflix live action One piece/ uniforms matter

Salute recruits and soldiers ⚓ 🌊⚓🌊⚓

On this sensational Sunday let's talk about recent leaks of the marine uniforms as in the leaks of the One piece Netflix series.

Keep in mind this could be all purposefully leaked material or 'thank god' it has been leaked. Remember the whole CGI disaster with sonic the hedgehog that first nightmarish design.

But Oh brother its Netflix so 🤷 😕 I don't think they should do a live adaptation I.e. deathnote failure, dragonball apocalyptic disaster and for good measures a non anime but still loved, Avatar the last airbender massacre.

And to top it off low budget productions and fandom cosplayers delivered far better movies then big budget Hollywood. So is it a big surprise that social media blows over the leaked photos in the one piece live action remake. Oh brother lets have a look, starting with the anime version pictures of fresh cadets and recruits.

And already we have differences sure that could be animation, but it seems more plausible that a subtle change of clothes can help distinguishe ranks. It might not be obvious to us civilians but inside the military ranks it makes sense.

And now let's have a look at the leeks, sorry they are Screenshots.

OK one positive the dark blue is spot on i love it.

Now to the rest. Who the hell is your tailor? Good lord pay people to do their job properly.

An article stated that the baseball cap looks too goofy however looking at the military uniform the patrol cap has been around for decades, so the cap itself isn't the issue but its design all of a sudden its half blue instead of its trademark white with 2 blue stripes and again the cosplay fandom has done a better job years ago see pictures below. BTW not even the font of the word marine is right. Ocd is coming through.

And then there is the whole belt thing over their shirts its not right, not only do these belts not exists in the anime but in real life they look like a cheap belt from Wish. Yes I see they are there for holding the swords however it just doesn't fit. Not to mention they buckled look so 21. Century.

I also don't like the badges with their ranks on, written of all things, as if we were dumb people. Just a 20 minute search on Google about military uniforms and its easy to see they have pins, badges, medals and so on for what unit you belong too, skills, achievements etc. Its just mind boggling.

I could go on so I better sum it up.

Is it any good? No. It looks like a dress up by newbies in the cosplay scene. Its goofy looking because its sloppy tailored and fitted. There are enough real life uniforms that can be studied for this purpose. Plus one thing uniforms always are IMMACULATE PERFECTION even for recruits and cadets.

No wrinkles no crumbling no side lobbed clothing. Remember a uniform does represent authority. And looking at the screenshots above I can't i see that.

My heart drops seing this cause I think there isn't much to look forward to with the live action series other the mindless product consumption that clearly is NOT entertainment.

(sorry for a delayed answer, some unexpected stuff happened irl)

This is Auletta's apprentice outfit, which she wears in chapter 1 of class story. These robes are quite simple, yet they look good on Auletta.

Also, I completely forgot to even mention weapons in other answers, so I'll do so now. The lightsaber Auletta uses is the one that Zash gave her, I just didn't like the in-game model, so I headcanon this one as Zash's lightsaber.

Pieces:

Chest - Dark Acolyte robe, no dye, colors unified; Hands - Juhani gloves; Wrists - Juhani bracers; Waist - Juhani belt; Legs - Apprentice's Force-Lord lower robe (story quest reward); Feet - Juhani boots.

Auletta wears these robes after becoming a Sith Lord in chapters 2 and 3, and it's sort of an upgrade of the previous outfit. I especially love the purple parts because they glow a bit in dark environments.

And the lightsaber is Kallig's (the one that sorcerers receive in game, but with a purple crystal).

Pieces:

Chest - Inquisitor's Renowned robe, black and light gray dye, colors unified; Hands - Inquisitor's Renowned gloves; Wrists - Juhani bracers; Waist - Remnant Dreadguard Inquisitor belt; Legs - Inquisitor's Renowned Feet - Juhani boots.

Here's my favorite outfit of hers, one she gets as the Dark Councilor after chapter 3 and until sometime in KotFE (well, she isn't involved with Zakuul and Alliance stuff, just timeline wise). This is when Auletta starts putting more effort is lightsaber combat and just overall becomes more involved with the war against the Republic, which explains the lack of super long skirts (they would just get in the way in a fight).

The lightsaber is still the one Kallig sends you after, but changed to better reflect Auletta - the hilt is still curved, just slightly modified, the color crystal is different, and the blade itself is a little unstable (mostly to look cool, but Auletta probably has another use for this).

Pieces: Charged Hypercloth Force Expert armor set with primary black dye.

And this is her last outfit at the moment, which she wears after getting back on the Dark Council (which happened about 3 years before Outlander is freed from carbonite). I was pretty lucky to get the dye for this outfit when it didn't cost me a fortune, but it makes it difficult to replicate for her clone.

Pieces: Resilient Warden armor set with black and dark purple dye.

There is supposed to be one more outfit, but at the moment I still can't put it together, so it may be added in the future.

Another thing I wanted to mention, that applies to all of her clothing - Auletta always wear something around her neck to cover the scars left by the slave collar.

There is a small problem with showing Iressa's outfits - she's an inactive character at the moment, and I cannot access her, so I hope that the screenshots I have saved before are good enough. (bless TOR fashion for helping me find the names of armor sets)

The apprentice outfit that Iressa has in chapter 1 of her class story. Again, a simple outfit with some armoring to better fit for a lot of fighting.

Pieces:

Chest - Juggernaut's Renowned body armor, (probably primary or secondary black dye), colors unified; Hands - Juggernaut's Renowned gloves; Wrists - some small bracers (can't check); Waist - Juggernaut's Renowned belt (not exactly, something similar looking, but again, I can't check); Legs - Zakuulan Security pants; Feet - Juggernaut's Renowned boots.

This is the armor Iressa uses in chapter 2 and on Belsavis. She went for something more imposing to reflect her status as a Sith Lord (hence the cape, for the dramatics). Wish the bandolier wasn't this big though.

Pieces:

Chest - Conquered Exarch chestpiece, (probably) primary black dye, colors unified; Hands - Juggernaut's Renowned gloves; Wrists - some small bracers (can't check) Waist - Canderous Ordo belt; Legs - Doonium Onslaught pants; Feet - Juggernaut's Renowned boots.

And this what she wears when she's named the Emperor's Wrath (on Voss, Corellia and everything after that). This one also costed me a fortune, the set itself isn't cheap on cartel market at all, plus I used a dye from cartel market as well. Looks nice though!

Pieces: Sovereign Executioner armor set with underworld boss dye (or honorable admiral, can't check which one exactly), belt is from Imperial Advisor set.

Interestingly enough, Iressa is another rare Force user of mine who never changed her lightsabers.

‘Bite Me’ First Reactions

Whoops almost posted this on the ATEEZ blog. And got distracted by Scoups in the process... Sorry not sorry.

Well, it’s been like 10 months since our last comeback. And was the wait worth it? Of course not. But was the comeback good? Um....

I mean, I guess it’ll grow on me. The song, for sure. The MV I guess. The choreo maybe. The lyrics, not so much.

I ended up having a decent bit to say about this before I even got into the MV analysis so everything is below the line.

First, some good points for us;

Is it supposed to be a homage to a fencing lame? A very vampiric sport? But then again, ENHYPEN are football players, not fencing... Or maybe it’s a homage to the trashy vests he wore in Pass The Mic? Because it doesn’t look like either of those options.

I love the outfits in this scene, but Jay’s is a -1100/10 for me. Poor guy doesn’t deserve this.

Moving on, we have the lyrics. As I pointed out before, they do bring back some concepts related to ENHYPEN, like fate, dreams, connections etc. But they’re also very reminiscent of a trashy romance song. Which could be for any combination of three reasons;

1) Getting the people who are attracted to these boys swooning

2) To be in line with the vampire genre/archetype, which is heavily tied to romance, BDSM etc - see lines like ‘tie me up’ and all of that.

3) To critique the above by pointing out a toxic and codependent relationship - see the whole ‘save me,’ ‘searching for you,’ ‘worships you’ bit.

I imagine it’s some combination of the three. In which case, I am sick and tired of #1, it is an uninteresting version of #2, and #3 has been done better by HYBE through TXT. So either way, HYBE wins (I guess) and ENHYPEN loses.

All that complaining aside, the lyrics aren’t that bad. They reintroduce us to the storyline, which I love. They have a lot of references, which I also love. And they can be analysed in many ways - literally see the above. Which is a great part of art, I think. The ambiguity may be annoying, but it’s also fascinating. I don’t have much to say about them that I haven’t already said, though. The most important lyrics are the ones I’ve already pointed out.

So with that in mind, let’s move on to a gloriously Gothic MV.

Loving the tower - it has a great combination of light and dark, which is heavily tied to grey morality (cough, vampires, cough). It also looks like it’s abandoned and decaying (cough, vampires), like the tower of a castle (vampires), and like a prison (say it with me - mysterious lords of faraway castles who turn out to be VAMPIRES). And - catacombs (can you guess what goes in these brackets?).

I also like how the bases of the windows can look a bit like chains at first, and how there is a dark spot at the top - where bats (ahem, vampires) or other evil may lurk.

Low angle = powerlessness, which is what they talk about in the lyrics.

Also love how it reminds me of the tower from Given-Taken (best song), the grungey concrete aesthetic of Pass The Mic (visual connection to the previous comeback), and Guerrilla by ATEEZ (Gothic boys being Gothic).

Honestly a masterful shot and they were so lucky to get this as s hooting location. Since I’m pretty sure it’s real, not CGI.

You can’t see from the still, but the moving/flickering clouds and lights outside the tower also show, duh, passing time - time being a key element of both ENHYPEN and vampire stories.

Bruv it’s only the first shot and I wrote 200+ words. This is when you know that maybe being a media student was taking your love for media a step too far.

I like how this shot mirrors the formation of the previous shot. I also like how they all turn away from the light. And how it makes the audience feel incredibly powerless.

The set here is lovely, but the light temperature bothers me - it looks too artificial and makes it look like we woke up in a lab not an epic vampire castle.

But wake up we did. And we woke up in the midst of vanpires.

Now they look towards the light, but the light is the moon during the day - an unusual thing, and which probably means werewolves.

WEREWOOOOOOOOOLLLLVES.

And this is about as close to an &TEAM cameo as we’ll get, I guess >:(

Thus the ‘Dark Moon’ logo sequence with the eclipse.

I have no clue where this is supposed to be, and ENHYPEN are living up to their vampire superpowers, because they seem to be teleporting with every comeback. But it looks nice and very Gothic. I like how, from this distance, the mountain can look a bit like a monster with a smaller skull and rib bones on it’s back.

Maybe I watch too many ‘Iron Lung’ videos.

And that’s about as close to blood as we’re going to get in this MV.

Again, the 7-circle formation which is honestly not unique to ENHYPEN, but still worth noting. And they’re in the white outfits - did they get smote down by the power of the moon wolves?

I mean that is classic vampire imagery right there. Maybe they needed to sleep to heal from the werewolves.

It’s also an intteresting way to emphasise the powerlessness that they describe/imply in the lyrics.

Ayo they’re gonna keep teleporting. It’s another tower, which is possibly more dilapidated than the other. And, of course, later in the day. Perfect for vampires.

For some reason, every single time I’ve watched this MV - which is many times by now - I have had the exact thought ‘yo that circle kind of reminds me of a pentagon’ at this exact moment - not before when they’re in a circle, not when they turn into coffins, no. When they turn into floating coffins.

This is also a very clever way in my opinion to go from an extreme high angle o a low angle.

I love how the blue light from above transitions to red and dark - reminds me of, again, catacombs, and also, duh, of hell.

I think the floor is bizarre in this set, but it becomes important later so I’ll excuse it.

Also love he starting formation for the choreo.

JUNGWOOOOOOOOOOONNNNN

I know some people hate the pale contacts on idols, and in lots of cases it’s out of concept, but it’s completely in-concept for ENHYPEN, and I love it.

I’m a big fan of this set, other than the unfortunate way in which it reminds me of Yoongi-priest in whichever BTS video that was.

The candles are amazing, and so is the mirror-window centrepiece. It evokes vampire lore (invisible in mirrors), common media (a standoff in a dream world between a hero and villain, complete with a chessboard), and the Gothic in general (no one is there, and then someone appears).

I like that it’s Jungwon v Sunghoon - Sunghoon was the one defending the girl (who I presume is the one from the webtoon but no one knows because no one can read it because it’s paid) in the album teaser, and Jungwon is the leader, thus most likely the most powerful vampire, either in authority or in power.

I like how this shot transitions from looking like very questionable blood.

To a flock of demon birds.

To our physics-loving Aussie Jake.

More vampire lore and references - they may be cliche, but at least I can respect them as very Gothic and very epic.

As expected, turns out the ‘blood’ was the Dark Moon that seems to rule over their lives as soon as HYBE wants more money thus webtoon.

Dang, imagine having your career as an idol determined by some semi-random webtoon. Kind of funny and kind of epically unique.

I love how Niki’s always the one in the MVs to get the casual displays of power. And I also love the ornaments in his hair.

This reminds me of him floating in Given-Taken, which makes me think that he is both a floater and a teleporter. I say with no evidence and having not looked at the webtoon yet for fear of cringe.

Also loving how he is high above us and effortlessly lording over us - the duality of us being powerful (in the lyrics) and powerless (in the MV) here is really fascinating.

The lighting of this scene and this MV in general is top-notch. Makes them look like one big monster. And, of course, the Gothic architecture and the blood-red on the outside. It also looks like they are reaching for the light - perfect timing for the line ‘God.’

The ‘oh my god’ line is both hilarious and brilliant. The delivery makes me laugh, but also reminds me of the Addams’ family, and the way it disrupts the song and is deep and hypnotising while evoking Christian imagery is a wonderous blend of Gothic and vampire media cues.

Love this moment of Sunghoon - he executes this move perfectly. I also love this section of the choreo, which kind of emulates strangulation, but also perhaps when a vampire grabs someone’s neck to bite them. And if you read it in the right context, could be considered sexy.

A few seconds ago (about 1:00 in the MV) they put their arms out, which remainds me in this context of crucifixion. But I can’t find a screenshot that has both their arms fully outstretched and Niki’s tongue in his mouth (the later making me incredibly uncomfortable). So I will just tell you about it instead of showing it.

Mind you, I guess we’ve all seen it anyway...

Omg what do you think he’s holding? Omg is that a pawn? Omg are we all pawns in his game? Wow such monumental and amazing storytelling.

I mean, it’s a well-known trope for a reason, but it’s also very overused. I also wonder why they would use it here - since Sunghoon was the protector in the trailer, and thus painted as a good guy while the others were bad. Is this supposed to be a hint that he’s actually the bad guy/brainwashed by the evil girl? And that Jungwon is the good one? Ngl I could not tell what Jungwon was holding for the life of me, except that it was not a pawn (since it was bigger) and may have been either a queen or king. Probably a queen because HYBE has enough gay rumours and they don’t need more.

Omg he burst.

Okay then...

And now they’ll look at the light? I am very concerned about how there is a growing light over my head while I lie on the ground surrounded by a circle of silent vampires.

Now I actually like this choreo for the most part - I think it’s fascinating that they chose to include the female backup dancers, since it’s something that ENHYPEN haven’t done before and which shows them as debonairs catching all the womenfolk (which is very vampire of them). However, I also hate it. First, because of how these kinds of choreographies objectify the backup dancers, whether they’re male or female. And second, because it is associated, in kpop, with sexy concepts. And I am so glad that Jungwon is in the centre but I despise how Niki is still a part of this choreo. Because HYBE clearly thought they hadn’t had enough sexy-coded choreos for this still-minor dude.

That said, I like how the women are in red and with face coverings. Although that does increase the subconscious sexiness of it, it also shows how the vampires do objectify these women, through covering their faces and seeing them literally as just sexy bags of blood.

It also adds to the nobility aesthetic of vampires.

I like how the choreo includes them in a pseudo-ballroom dance, where the women have their hands around their necks - another subversion of who is in control here, and a subversion of ENHYPEN as vampires as their likely victims are the one who show control over them.

I’m also so sorry for what I did to your face, Jungwon. I swear it was an accident.

Like this part where they’re like the opposite of each other. But not liking the butt-touching.

Yas, great choreo. Can we just release it in a minimum of 7 months, please, HYBE?

Loving whichever ruins they got to do this in - catacombs, European, and disintegrating. All vampire things. Although I wish that they went into the Korean concept of vampires more than the American and European ideas, they are pulling ALL of the Eurpoean/American vampire cards.

This MV is the European version, by the way.

And loving how this move is kind of seductive, but of course, also controlling.

Not going to lie, I’m a bit confused about why the moon turned into a chandelier, and why they ended up in the same scene as Niki. But I do love how the chandelier is swinging, like a pendullum (passing of time) and also like it’s hypnotising you (ahem, vampires).

It also gives a unique and sort of magical lighting effect to the scene, and, of course, is very elegant and rich (ahem, vampires).

Loving this choreo and the shadows on the walls.

The neck-snapping returns.

And Jungwon being epic in the background again.

Also really loving this sequence where they merge into each other - it’s kind of creepy in a very toned down body-horror way, is disconcerting, and, of course, we’ve got the red lighting. Also reminds me of Bohemian Rhapsody for some reason, but that’s not a bad thing because the ‘oh my god’ line reminds me of that song too, and that song had a lot of inspiration from and impact on the Gothic.

Ahh yes, Jay and his horse. On a cold, moonlit night. Very vampire, very Gothic. I don’t know why he suddenly has a horse when Sunghoon had one in the trailer, but I’ll take it I guess.

We’ve seen hints previously, but this sequence shows that Sunghoon and Jungwon are dealing with a chessboard. An actual chessboard. And since it is on both sides, it is, again a mirror. Whcih implies to me that they are the same person....? Um some meaning may have been lost in translation, HYBE.

Anyway, the reason I pointed out the floor earlier is because now we can see that it IS the chessboard. They are all pawns in the game of Sunghoon and Jungwon... who are pawns in their own game... who may be the same person... who are probably both being controlled by someone else.... and the girl is suspiciously absent in this MV despite being such a big part of the trailer.... hmmmm wow I wonder what happened here?

In case anyone was wondering, that is indeed sarcasm.

Still loving the duo choreo for all reasons other than Niki.

Pls don’t look at me like that.

Love how Niki’s just levetation-vibing.

Bruv this would be the perfect place to have a werewolf cameo. When the vampires stand in the bloody ruins of their castle.

Mind you, the lights going out was a part of Drunk-Dazed when the werewolves went for Sunoo, so it could be a nod to them.

This bit sounds like it came from the webtoon, but since I haven’t read it, I don’t know.

I’m also not sure why I imagine Jungwon being the one to say it, when it’s usually Jay and Jake.

Conclusions

I love that it brought back the vampires, and I hate that it didn’t bring back the werewolves. There was a sad lack of blood and a wonderous abundance of Gothic tropes.

As I predicted in the beginning, it’s already grown on me, even over the short period it took me to write this. I realised that the only things I had against it were the lack of my favourite ENHYPEN things (excessive amounts of blood, werewolves, bizarre symbolism, and loud hype music). And, as much as I love the choreo, it was held back for me initially (and still is) by the fact that it is so intensely sexy-coded, and my dude Niki is still in this group. If it released in a few months, or preferably years, I would be on top of it. Let’s hope that the fans don’t behave too rabid this time. I’m going to look forward to watching the stage performances of this (and avoiding Niki), and to what their next comeback, and &TEAM’s comeback, do with this.

Hint: It’s probably not going to be anything.

Koth betrayed him due to browning the spire, and he was dead set on killing him at first but Jacques convinced him to spare Koth’s life when it came to it. Cassian settled for cutting some of Koth’s fingers and permanently exiling him from Odessen.

Shot them down, he doesn’t take kindly to betrayal, especially when it concerned such a dangerous enemy.

Not in game but in headcanon various other companions and characters did the Star Fortresses, everyone had a planet they were responsible for.

Choose to kill Arcann but not because of any loyalty to Valkorion. Cassian wanted to remove the threat while the opportunity presented itself and he trusted neither Senya’s words nor shady Voss magic.

He was suspicious, but they ended up becoming allies

Cassian knew Valk was a horrible father and was quick to call him out on this conditioning, but during chapter 6, Cassian was too focused on defeating Vaylin to consider or doubt the use of conditioning. After visiting Nathema and seeing what Vaylin has gone through, however, this became one of the biggest regrets of his life

No, he never even considered allowing the killer machine to escape

After he defeated Arcann, Cassian was willing to imprison him, but Arcann chose death and got executed. Cassian doesn’t regret this choice, but he accepted since that there were more similarities between him and Arcann than he liked to admit

This was one of the most horrible experiences of his life, the void got him on a very deep level. Seeing what Vaylin has gone through and some of those experiments reminding him of what his own father did to snuff out the force from him made him sympathize and desperately want to help Vaylin. His behavior during the battle of Odessen made Lana and Theron raise eyebrows, to say the least.

Yes, only due to how Nathema affected him, he didn’t think logically or pragmatically at this moment and simp,y wished to grant him peace.

Vette, an incredibly easy choice. He finds Torian respectable but compared to Vette, he’s nobody to Cassian.

Well, the future love interest was present…I have an alternative version of the final fight with Vaylin in my headcanon. First of all, Theron wasn’t present cause let’s be real, he would get annihilated. Instead it’s Cassian, Jacques the JK and Lana. Cassian is very reluctant to strike Vaylin down and wants to reach out to her, and it’s Jac that deals the final blow(her spirit still gets absorbed by Valkorion and therefore Cassian).

Yes, and the fact that the game implies the Outlander didn’t makes them seem really stupid. Of course Valkorion would try something like this. I guess Cassian hoped the Holocron would pacify him.

Bernard Figures It Out

Was reading through all the comments on @frostbittenbucky's post and all I could think of was that it was Bernard talking to Tim. Then I got to thinking...

"I've connected the two dots."

"You didn't connect shit."

"I've connected them."

Bernard figures out Tim's a superhero... sort of.

Tim fidgetted nervously as he waited on the front porch of his boyfriend’s house. Bernard had sounded so serious when he’d called during Tim’s lunch to ask him to come over after work so they could talk about something.

Which Tim had done, after spending an entire board meeting just going over the past week trying to figure out what he’d done.

The only thing he could think of was that he’d ducked out halfway through their lunch date on Wednesday to give Duke some backup, but Bernard had seemed understanding when Tim explained there was an emergency at GRC Labs. It couldn’t have been a tipping point, either, since Tim had managed to only flake on three other dates over the past few months they’d been dating. Kate had been happy to cover for him as often as she could “out of queer solidarity” when she found out Tim was dating a boy for the first time and Tim had managed to trick Bruce into covering a few actual Wayne Enterprises emergencies for him when they came up.

There had to be a reason Bernard was breaking up with him, though. Had he missed something? He definitely wasn’t forgetting an important day. He was good with days and Tam was even better, so she would have reminded him on the off chance that he had forgotten.

What was he missing?

Bernard was smiling when he opened the door, but there was a nervous energy to it that had Tim’s stomach sinking. “Hey, Tim.”

“Hey.” Tim gave his own nervous smile then slipped inside.

They went into the living room and sat down on the couch.

Tim frowned when Bernard grabbed a manila folder off the coffee table. Crud, had he screwed up enough that Bernard had had to make a list? He knew he was new to dating a guy, but he hadn’t thought he’d done that bad. He’d really been trying, especially with how his and Stephanie’s relationship had fallen apart at the end. “What -”

“Just let me speak, Tim,” Bernard said, waiting for Tim’s nod. “Okay, so you know Clark Kent, right?”

Tim blinked as Bernard opened the folder to show a picture of Clark. It looked like one of the employee pictures from the Planet’s website, with his dorky “I’m just a humble country boy” smile and the golden globe from their roof photoshopped in as the background. “Uh, yeah? I think so. He works for the Daily Planet, right? I think he’s worked at a few of Bruce’s events. Not a lot of outside reporters are willing to come to Gotham.”

“Exactly!” Bernard said, snapping his fingers and pointing at Tim.

“What?”

He pulled out the picture to show the next page was an article titled, “DAILY PLANET REPORTER… BATMAN!?”

A wave of relief washed over Tim and he placed his face in his hands. “Were you up all night on the hero conspiracy boards again?”

“No. I mean, I found this on a board and was up all night thinking about it, but I found it reasonably early.”

“One in the morning isn’t reasonable, Bernard.”

“Says the guy who’s always wide awake when I call to infodump.”

“Touché.” Tim leaned against Bernard and gave him a smile. “So tell me, why is some reporter from Metropolis from all places Batman.”

“First of all, living in Metropolis is the perfect cover. Everyone assumes Batman would live in Gotham, no one would consider he could be from anywhere else. Metropolis is outside the GMA, but close enough that the commute is still possible.”

“But it’s Metropolis.”

“And who would think Gotham’s Dark Knight lives in the sunshine capital? Plus, I hear he disappears a lot on the job. There’s gotta be a reason for it!”

Tim made a note to let Clark know he needs to cut back on the disappearing act some since people are catching on.

“And have you seen the guy? He is swol AF, babe.”

“Please don’t call me babe while you’re talking about how hot another guy is.” Especially Tim’s honorary uncle.

“You know I prefer twinks.”

“BERNARD!”

“I’m just saying,” he continued, ignoring Tim’s shout. “The guy is definitely hiding something! Besides, Kent is an investigative reporter. He’s gotta know a lot about cases and the underground and detective work.”

Not as much as he likes people to think, but more than he likes people to know Superman does, Tim mused. “But what about the other vigilantes?”

“Well, Kent has a cousin…” Bernard flipped through a folder and pulled out a picture of Kara. It looked like a screenshot of her interviewing Lena for CatCo. “She’s obviously the latest Batgirl. Look at her hair. And the first Batgirl and the current Batwoman were obviously Lois Lane, the red hair is just a wig. Did you see how she kicked butt at that last event she went to? She’s not as subtle as Kent. That means their son is the latest Robin. He’s exactly the right size.”

Oh, Damian better not hear about this, Tim cackled internally. His youngest brother hated being reminded that Jon was the same height as him despite their two years age difference. Damian definitely took after Talia when it came to body type, no matter what he said.

“And Kent also has a brother.” This time he pulled out a picture of Kon. The clone must have been caught by a reporter out shopping with Ma since he was carrying some paper bags and glaring at whoever was behind the camera. “At least, he’s supposedly Kent’s brother, but he was a teenager when he first showed up with the Kents. A lot of people think he’s actually Kent’s son, that Kent got a girl pregnant when they were teenagers and something happened to the mom so Kent had to take him in. Now the Kents are trying to hide it by saying the two are brothers.”

That was… scarily accurate actually. Especially given Luthor and Clark were close friends at the time that Kon would have theoretically been born.

“And that beef would explain why the younger Kent brother went all crime lord on Gotham for a while before reconnecting with the family.”

“Wait, what?”

“Yeah, Kent Jr.’s got the perfect build for Red Hood.”

Tim bit back a comment on how Kon was shorter than Jason by a good foot. Timothy Drake-Wayne should not know that. Add Jason to the list of people who can’t hear this theory.

“And then there’s this girl,” Bernard picked up a picture of Lois, Jon, and Natasha Irons walking down the street together. “No one’s sure exactly who she is, but she’s been spotted with the Kents a few times. I think the cover story is that she’s Jon’s babysitter.”

“And the actual story?”

“She’s Black Bat, obviously. That’s why she wears a mask that fully covers her face. She doesn’t want to stand out as the only African American Bat.”

“Isn’t Signal also Black?”

“Yeah, but he works in the daytime so he’s already a standout.”

“And who is Signal in this? And what about Nightwing and Red Robin?”

“Well, Nightwing’s just a Blüd who came to Gotham. He doesn’t count.”

Ouch. Sorry, Dick.

“And Red Robin is obviously an older Robin, the one who was Robin when we were kids. Kent wanted to keep him on, and I don’t blame him. As for Signal, he’s got the same backstory as all the other Robins Kent picked up, he just went the Signal route because he didn’t fit the usual Robin mold.”

“Because the female Robin fit the mold,” Tim snorted. Robin Mold, as if he and his brothers were even the same ethnicity. Or even had the same hair color. Jason dyes his hair, Dick’s is brown-black, Tim’s is pure black, and Damian’s is more a dark brown and it’s only getting lighter as he gets older.

“She didn’t, that’s the point. Kent tried to give breaking the Robin mold a chance by letting his cousin have a go at it, but he realized it just didn’t work so she went back to being Spoiler and he got a new Robin.”

Not touching that with a ten-foot pole. “Right, and where does he get the usual Robins? Please tell me you’re not back on the secret government orphanages theory.”

“No, no, no. Kent travels sometimes for his job, right? And a lot of the time he’s going to places that have been hit by disasters or major crimes. So he’ll take in some of the displaced children to train as his robins.”

Tim pressed his face back into his hands.

“You see it, right?”

Honestly, Tim was just wondering how his boyfriend could be so close, and yet so far off. “How would Kent even afford taking care of a bunch of secret -- possibly illegally acquired -- children without anyone noticing?”

“Simple. Bruce Wayne is funding him.”

“Bernard, I love you, but what the heck?” Tim blushed and looked up as he realized what he’d said, but Bernard didn’t seem to notice as he steamrolled ahead.

“It’d also explain how he can afford all the gear and how he’d be able to travel to Gotham or anywhere else Batman goes without anyone noticing. He probably has a secret Batplane or something.”

“Why would Bruce do that?”

“Because Wayne cares about Gotham, everyone knows that, and this way he can make sure someone’s taking care of the city without anyone putting two and two together.”

“And two plus two is?”

Bernard gave him a hard look. “I’m not stupid, Tim. Bruce Wayne is obviously Superman. His face is right there.”

Oh, the others are going to love this! Too bad I can’t tell Damian or Jason. Jason especially would have loved this. “Right. Bruce is Superman.”

“He is. Superman is known for being nice and Bruce Wayne’s basically all that’s keeping the city running at this point. That’s nice as hell.”

Oh my god.

“And Wayne does charity for the victims of cataclysms, doesn't he? I bet he first saves people from them as Superman and then builds them new homes for free.”

Oh my god! Why am I not recording this!?

“And the Wayne’s were rich enough to hide the fact they adopted an alien baby.”

Tim raised an eyebrow. “If you’re about to tell me this is why Bruce’s parents got killed, you might want to stop while you’re ahead.”

“It’d make sense. There’re all sorts of unanswered questions about their deaths,” Bernard muttered under his breath, flipping through the folder. He pulled out another picture of Kara. This time she was in full Supergirl attire with a bus held overhead. “So if Wayne is Superman, then that’d mean your ex-girlfriend could be Supergirl. They look a lot alike and it’d explain how she got involved with you all.”

“Bernard, she has a human dad. You know, Cluemaster. The supervillain.”

“Yeah, her dad. But we don’t know anything about her mom!”

“Let me guess…”

Bernard pulled out a picture of Karen. She and Helena were suited up and talking to a group of cops, two goons held over each of Karen’s shoulders. “Her mom could be Power Girl! Some makeup and a wig and she could look just like Crystal Brown! And Damian Wayne is obviously the new Superboy! That’s why his background is such a mystery, right? He had to stay a secret until he could control his alien superpowers. That’s why he’s always so mean. It’s a cover since everyone knows Superboy is super sweet!”

Sure, when he’s not helping Damian pull pranks or using his adorable powers to put the blame on Kon and I. “No, Bernard. Damian and Steph are just very human hellspawn. And Bruce and Crystal are human too. I can’t believe you called me over here just to tell me you think Superman is both Batman’s sugar daddy and my adoptive dad.”

“Well, that’s not exactly why I called you over,” Bernard admitted, the nervous energy coming back. He grabbed Tim’s hands. “Tim -”

Tim’s stomach sank. “You are breaking up with me!”

“What? No! I don’t want to break up!”

“Why are you acting all nervous and serious then!?” Tim asked, pulling his hands away to throw them up in the air.

Bernard shook the folder. “Because I’m trying to tell you I figured out you’re Superboy!”

Tim’s brain blue-screened and his hands slowly dropped. “I’m sorry, what?”

“I know you’re Superboy. The older one, obviously. By the way, you and Damian really need to figure out separate names.”

Forget Jason and Damian, Kon can never find out about this. He’d never let me live it down. “Bernard, you called me a twink five minutes ago. Su-” Shoot, I can not risk getting Kon’s attention! “The older one might not be as big as Superman, but he’s not a twink.”

“Well, yeah, that’s the shapeshifting at work.”

“The what?”

“Obviously you Kryptonians can shapeshift. Why else would you look so much like humans?”

… Why do Kryptonians look so much like humans? Was there some - Wait, no! Break into the Fortress of Solitude for research later! Reassure your boyfriend that you’re not an alien now! “Bernard -”

“And that explains why your step-mom was so hot.”

“Gross.”

“She and your dad were actors hired by Luthor so you could have a normal life! But now Bruce has custody so he adopted you.”

“No.”

“That’s why you and your dad were so weird with each other when I met him.”

“We were weird because he’d just gotten out of a coma not long before to find that his wife was dead so he decided to actually be a dad for once in his life, but overcompensated and became a helicopter parent to a kid who was mostly on his own for his entire life!” Tim blurted out. “I am not an alien, Bernard!”

“Well, not technically since you were cloned from Superman on Earth.”

“Oh my god! You were just talking about Steph being Supergirl! Why would I date my dad’s cousin?”

Bernard blinked. “Supergirl and Superman are cousins?”

Right, Timothy Drake-Wayne wasn’t supposed to know that. “I thought they’d said something like that before, yeah. Are people seriously saying I’m Superboy on the internet?”

“NO! No, I swear I would have led with that if I thought your identity was compromised. A few people have mentioned Wayne and Damian, but not you or Steph or Jason.”

“Wh-Jason!? You think Jason was an alien too!”

“No, not exactly, but a few times when I’ve visited I swear I’ve seen a guy in the manor who looks like Jason. It’s just been out of the corner of my eye and he’s gone whenever I look so I’ve always thought it was just Dick or Bruce or some picture of Jason that my mind was playing tricks with, but it makes sense now that I know Wayne is Superman. He must have been able to heal Jason with alien tech, but couldn’t say anything because that would give away that he’s Superman.”

Damn it Jason! And damn it Bernard! I’m dating the smartest moron in the world! “Bruce did not bring Jason back with alien technology and none of us are aliens!”

“It’s okay, Tim. I won’t tell anyone.”

Tim grabbed Bernard by the jacket and pulled him into a kiss. When he started to feel lightheaded, he pulled back, “Could someone whose skin is as solid as stone kiss like that?”

Bernard blinked dazedly at him for a moment. “How do you know what Superboy’s skin feels like?”

Tim screamed internally. “He’s saved me from a kidnapping before.”

“Really?”

“Yes. I can get you the police report if you want.”

“Huh… And the others?”

“Not Supers. I can stab Damian the next time we’re at the manor if that’ll prove none of us are aliens.” He’d rather stab Jason, but that would probably only confirm to Bernard that Bruce used alien technology to bring him back.

“You probably shouldn’t stab your brother if he isn’t an alien.”

Tim rolled his eyes. “I won’t stab him anywhere deadly.”

“That’s not the point,” Bernard said slowly.

“He’ll be fine.”

“If you say so.”

“So do you believe I’m not an alien now?” Tim huffed, letting go of Bernard’s jacket.

The blond’s eyes dipped down to Tim’s lips. “If I say no, will you kiss me like that again?”

“You’re ridiculous,” Tim said, but he kissed him anyway.

Clear Card Chapter 60 Analysis

Hello! Sorry I’ve been so slow to write these analyses lately! I knew I was going to have a lot to say, so I had to summon the energy to start it knowing it wasn’t going to be a quick write-up. Hahaha.

Alas, here I am! This chapter didn’t have any Syaoran (lord, I miss him) or even Sakura for that matter! But this chapter was incredibly entertaining nonetheless! Also, omg look at that Clow on the cover page! Clow Reed art is so rare! Let’s dig in to chapter 60! More under the cut!

So let me start off by talking a little bit about how I always envisioned that initial meeting of Kaito and Akiho’s mother would go. I had mentioned a while ago that I was writing up a fic about their first meeting, but now that fic is kinda pointless considering we’ve now seen it for real in this chapter. Lol. However, I must say that I am actually pretty proud of myself of what I managed to get right. Here’s a little bit of the script that I wrote to help me lay out the bare bones of the dialogue I predicted they would have.

Akimom: -offers chocolate mint to Kaito-

Kaito: -takes a bite and shudders instantly-

Akimom: -laughs hysterically- Your face is so funny!

Kaito: I don’t know what’s funny about it…

Akimom: You make the same face as him!

Kaito: Him?

Akimom: -smiles brightly- The one I love more than anyone else!

Kaito: Love? -confused-

Akimom: Yes! -says excitedly-

Kaito: What’s that?

Akimom: Mmm…-thinks for a moment of how to explain it to him- love is when you like a person so much that you feel warm inside and your heart races whenever you’re with them or think about them! There’s no greater happiness than being with the one you love!

Kaito: That sounds like a fever…

Akimom: -giggles- It is similar, but I’m sure you’ll understand when you’re a bit older. There’s no greater happiness than being with the one you love!

Kaito: I don’t think so.

Akimom: Huh? Why not?

Kaito: I don’t like anything

Akimom: Now, that’s not true….

Kaito: Why do you say that?

Akimom: Because you don’t like chocolate mint.

Kaito: That doesn’t make sense….

Akimom: The world is full of duality, and these things cannot exist without the other. Light and dark, good and evil, peace and war, hot and cold, and even likes and dislikes. You can’t dislike something without being able to like something.

And just so you know I didn’t just write this up a few days ago, here’s the screenshot of my Google Docs showing it has not been touched since October (see how productive I am? Lmao).

As I go, I may refer back to this a little bit, but now I’ll actually move on to actual chapter content.

The chapter starts off with what appears to be not their very first meeting, but perhaps their second. Akimom has already met Kaito once before when she asked him if he ate any foods he liked (back in the vision from chapter 41), but it seems she had been looking for him since that initial meeting. Kaito is by himself of course, and he had intended to be alone. So much so, in fact, that he put up a barrier to keep other people out! But Akimom seems to have penetrated this barrier, and Kaito wonders how she managed to do this. Rather casually, she tells him she simply broke right through it, but what I love about this is that she hasn’t just broken a barrier physically but emotionally as well. She tore down those literal walls he built and forced him to do something he probably never imagined himself doing; engaging in normal, non-magic related conversation.

Kaito tells her that she’ll be missed at the meeting going on between the Association and her Clan, however this was more likely Kaito’s way of saying “Don’t you have somewhere better to be than talking to me right now?”. He also states rather seriously that although her Clan is friendly with the Association now, there is no telling when they will be crossed. His concerns make sense, considering both groups have selfish intentions, and it seems natural that eventually one of them will want to overpower the other once their mutual goal is met. But this statement to me also expresses that he sees her as someone who is naïve and might be harmed by this, thus a small amount of caring coming from him. He wants to warn her so she doesn’t get hurt. However, this could also be his way of continuing to try and push her away, seeing as he is one of those in the group he claims may betray her.

Akimom contests this brilliantly though, not letting it deter or frighten her, and mentions that since he is their strongest, that shouldn’t he be there? This is where the two of them seem to find their first thing in common, which is that the both of them find these meetings insufferably boring. It also appears that both the Association and the Clan don’t really seem to care if either of them are a part of this meeting. After all, they don’t want their opinions or to actually talk to them. All they want is their magic.

Despite knowing this, Akimom says she has better things to do with her time (what a boss), and I honestly really respect that. She’s not salty or angry about it. She simply takes that time to instead live her best life, and that seems to be eating as many chocolate mint things as possible. Lmao!! She loves chocolate mint so much that she is desperate to have Kaito try one, and this I think is something we can all relate to. Haven’t we all desperately wanted to recommend things we like to a friend (like me talking the ear off of anyone who will listen about Cardcaptor Sakura)?

She’s so excited, but Kaito doesn’t understand this at all. Instead he asks her why she bothers talking to him at all. After all, didn’t she hear what he said? He told her that his group may betray her, but she seems unfazed by this and even mentions how her own Clan only ever talks about controlling all the magic in the world. I do want to take a brief moment to talk about how terrifying this casual thing she said actually is. Soak that in for a moment…all of the magic in the world. That is a incredibly high ambition, and what do you think that means for the ones who don’t want to join their ranks? The implications of this goal seem very likely to result in violence at some point, and Akimom is well aware of this. Kaito seems to believe that she should not be speaking with him as a result of the Association’s own goals, but she rejects this and says “Of course I do! I need to get to know you better, don’t I?”.

Kaito sees she’s not getting the message, so he decides to try and take matters into his own hands by literally walking away. Lmaooo. But Akimom stops him and asks him to try one bite of the chocolate mint and tell her what he thinks of it. Little Kaito sees no point in it because she is able to see the future in her dreams, and why bother asking him a question she already knows the answer to, right? In this page, yet another dreamseer has been unveiled, and it seems to be a theme in CLAMP that these dreamseers (which seem to be almost entirely female), are incredibly strong in magic. The dreamseers we know of now in Cardcaptor Sakura are: Sakura (of course), Nadeshiko, Yelan, and now Akimom (I’m not sure if Clow Reed, Eriol, or Kaho count as dreamseers or not, but they all have some level of reading the future, just maybe not in dreams). So basically the main cast’s mothers all are dreamseers. Lol.

Kaito addresses how Akimom’s specialty is seeing the future in dreams, however I was a bit surprised to the question he asked her next. He asks her if she sees what his power can be helpful for, and his face looks so sad here. The impression I got from this is that he is a young child desperately trying to find his purpose in life, and he’s probably been told that his magic is his purpose and this is all he needs. But he wants more. It seems he wants to find more of a purpose for his magic other than just being really really strong. It’s not stated, but I imagine Akimom is probably the first person he’s ever had this conversation with.

She seems to kind of avert the question by cracking a lighthearted joke about how she doesn’t yet need his help with house chores since she’s still tall enough to change lightbulbs and is pretty self capable. Hahaha. But of course, Kaito pushes her for a less silly answer. She tells him that she had a dream that if she went to a certain place that she’d meet him, and that she was fine with this because even if she does see the future, it is up to her to decide what she wants to do with this information. By saying this, I think she was also telling Kaito that he too can decide what he wants to do with his power and that it is not something predetermined.

She finishes by saying that her choice was to get to know him, and he pulls up his cloak a bit shyly before telling her that he is not interested. Haha! He starts to leave, but this time Akimom doesn’t try to stop him. He’s clearly hit his limit of social interaction for the day, and even she can see that. He makes a quick getaway, and quietly to herself, Akimom has a hope that someday she can call him by name (which I imagine she will someday!).

The next page shows future interactions, which are all adorable in their own right, but mostly contain her really going hard on offering him chocolate mint snacks (including choco mint potato chips? Wut?). I imagine he consistently refused these harmless offers until one day he finally gives in and tries a chocolate mint treat for the first time. Akimom can hardly contain her excitement and anticipation as to what he’ll say, and it doesn’t take him long to tell her that he hates it. Even though he dislikes it, it is true that he has found progress by actually having an opinion about something! This I where I’ll bring up my little fanfic script from earlier. I had a feeling that Akimom’s dynamic with him would be trying to find something he likes, because if he can hate something, then he can absolutely like something, and I’m so happy I got that one right!

Another thing that I managed to get right (along with many other fans of course) is guessing that he indeed does not like choco mint. You may be wondering “Chrissy, what does this mean and why is this so important?”. Well, CLAMP has been teasing this whole choco mint thing since its introduction in chapter 36. It was mentioned so often in that chapter that fellow CLAMP enthusiasts and I could not help but think “Okay, this has got to mean something.” It was expressed which characters like and dislike choco mint in the chapter, and there were only a handful of people who clearly disliked it. These people who dislike it came out to be: Chiharu, Touya, Fujitaka, Eriol, Akiho’s father, and Syaoran (this is also where the speculation that Akiho and Syaoran might have the same dad came about, and I can’t straight out deny it, but it seems extremely unlikely. Hahahaha). Kaito was the only one who was purposely left out of this chapter and it was dangled in a rather mysterious way to have us all pulling our hair out and wondering what it means. Lmao. But I had always had the feeling he would be not a fan. And why did I think this? Well, because of Syaoran of course! The connections between them seem to be building, and now we’ve got another thing they have in common to add to the list!

Now that they have found something Kaito dislikes, they can find something he likes, and he pulls up his cloak again in a bashful way (which makes me just want to hug him, because omg how precious is he). The next panel shows him eating chocolate covered pretzels, and he confirms he can eat them, but this appears to be neither a confirmation of liking or disliking, so it is another bust for Akimom’s attempts. She tells him she made them herself, and he follows up by saying this must have been a bother. After all, doing anything at all seems like a bother for him still at this point, but maybe her efforts were what encouraged him to become so good at household chores and cooking in the future. It was something obviously that made her very happy, so maybe he thought ‘if I can learn how to do these too, maybe I can feel happy’.

Kaito notices that she seems more cheerful than usual and asks her if something happened. She wonders how he noticed, and he expresses that it was something obvious, but Akimom says that the Clan never said anything. It seems implied here that maybe they noticed but simply didn’t care. They don’t seem like the type who really cares about anyone’s emotional well-being. But Akimom is positively radiant, and says that it is because she got to have another meeting with a distant relative. This person has seemingly worked with Akimom for years to try and summon a specific spirit (which I can only assume may be Momo), but Kaito probably doesn’t understand the connection between her meeting this person and her more cheerful behavior.

But being as observant as he is, he notices another magical presence despite it being hidden under several layers of concealment. Akimom blushes quite a bit at this and decides to show him her ring, seeing as she can’t hide it from him. She holds the ringed finger to her face very affectionately and says that someone has sworn to protect her with the ring (which gives me total Syaoran vibes, I have to say). Kaito comments that whoever gave her this ring must have been very powerful. Akimom confirms this and says they are the second strongest magic user in the Clan after her (which based on what the Clan said in chapter 31 about Akiho’s parents being the strongest in the clan, it seems that this person is Akiho’s father), and Kaito asks her if she has fallen in love with their power. He seems incapable of understanding the concept of love and how power could not be the thing that attracted them to each other. It’s understandable how he would think this as the Clan probably specifically pairs people based on power, but power has been known in the CCS world to create some forms of attraction (like Syaoran’s initial attraction to Yukito for example). Kaito mentioned in Chapter 41 how he still did not understand what Akimom meant when she spoke of love, so it makes me wonder if this is part of the reason Kaito seems so interested in Syaoran? Maybe he thinks the two of them are together due to attraction from their powers but is trying to understand how it differs from just magical attraction.

Akimom denies that she is attracted to this person because of their power and that she doesn’t fall for someone just for that reason. Yes, they are powerful, but she loves for different reasons entirely. She loves them because they are the person just for her, and she decided this when she met them. This was a decision she made on her own and not because of what her dreams told her.

Now, here is where Cinzia and I yell obscenities at Kodansha for their dreadful English translations. Go check out @meimi-haneoka’s post on this chapter, but every month she does incredible work dissecting the translation errors and making sense of them. This page in particular has caused quite a bit of commotion and confusion due to the words on the page and who is on the page. I’ll start off by saying now that no, Momo is not Akimom’s lover.

The English translation on this page says “my beloved will do what I ask, even if they’re a bit hard headed. They’re very kind”. But this is not what the Japanese version says. Cinzia has properly translated this part, which appears to be ‘I will make a request. To a creature that is quite stubborn, but very kind’.

Completely different, right?

So I say WHAT THE FUCK KODANSHA? This is just as bad, if not worse, than the ‘Mana’ incident last year (exactly one year ago it seems), and the one in Chapter 41 where it appeared that Kaito was accusing Syaoran of using Sakura’s cards for selfish reasons. It’s a freaking travesty, and I’m sure they have very little time to translate these before publication, but like…really? If Cinzia can determine what is actually being said without being a professional translator and in less than a day, then why the hell can’t Kodansha’s translator get one freaking month without errors?! Ugh! Okay, venting over. Lmao.

So this page is not some great reveal of Momo being her lover but rather stating that she knows a little of what the future holds, but that she will ask a request of this creature as well, which happens to be Momo, so this point she had effectively moved on from talking specifically about the one she loves and was speaking more vaguely about the future in general. I imagine this request is when she gave Momo the ring and asked her to protect ‘her Alice, and the other Alice as well’. I think Akimom might have been aware already at this point that she would become pregnant with Akiho and would need to protect her as much as she can. She might have even known at this point that she would not be around soon.

Kaito states he knows nothing of dreamers, but Akimom expresses that him not having those powers of foresight is a good thing. He asks why, and she tells him that if he were good at everything, then life would be boring! I agree with this sentiment, but I think she also knows that with that knowledge comes pain, and she doesn’t want that for him. He seems somewhat distressed at not knowing the future, but Akimom tenderly tells him that even if she can’t help him find something he likes, that he will find that thing out there in the world, and it will be something his alone. This seems to further make me believe she knew at this point she wouldn’t be around, because of the words ‘..I will probably not be able to look for what you like together with you’ (from the original Japanese version). Why would she say this unless she knew she wouldn’t be there for him to find said thing? But she believes in her heart that he will find it, and she says that something will be waiting for him. I believe this ‘something’ is Akiho.

The scene comes back to the present, showing Kaito waking up on the couch after having passed out in the hallway. He asks Momo if she carried him there, and she hilariously responds in her tsundere way that he was in her way. Hahahaha. What a legend. He describes Momo the same way that Akimom did by calling Momo ‘hard-headed but kind’, and Momo seems to know immediately that he had dreamt of ‘Lillie’.

THAT’S RIGHT, WE FINALLY HAVE A NAME FOR AKIMOM, AND IT’S BEAUTIFUL!!!

Fittingly, when Momo says her name, there are lilies in the background. Kaito seems to change the subject and mentions how he was surprised to see the book that even Clow Reed couldn’t control in Akiho’s hand with Momo as well. He was also surprised to see the form Momo had taken. I can understand this surprise considering Akiho is known to have no magic power at all, so she seems the least likely of people for the book to end up with. Momo explains that had she been in another form, even the Clan would have recognized her, so it seems her adorable rabbit form was necessary for hiding not just from non magic wielding humans but also those who do wield magic. Kaito seems to think that Momo’s appearance was fortuitous and timely for his goals in the forbidden magic, and he wonders if Lillie foresaw this as well. Chances are she very much did, but I’m sure Kaito thinks about this often in these ‘hitsuzen’ moments.

Momo asks if he really isn’t going to change his mind before she tells him that things are progressing with the story of the Twin Alices, Sakura and Akiho. But she warns him that this story won’t go according to his wish alone but rather the wills of all involved . And once it has begun, there will be no going back. Cinzia noted in her own analysis that the specific way Momo says this is exactly the same as the mysterious voice that told Sakura and Akiho “You can never go back”. So it seems possible that this mysterious voice could be Momo, however I am a bit skeptical.

I think by saying this, Momo is telling us this is Kaito’s last chance to back out, which means very very soon things will escalate.

Anyways, I think the next chapter will very likely start with the play or at least be some sort of dramatic rehearsal. I think ‘that time’ is approaching very quickly now, and I cannot contain my hype. Next month is Sakura’s birthday, so I’m praying we get something real special!

I’m sorry if this is a bit grim, I’m trust-falling off anon. I’m an edge lord and trimming some details, but I like to ramble about my OCs and i’m also enjoying reading about all of these other WoLs! My whole dealie is a bit self indulgent but i think that’s the point of this exercise 😩✨😩✨

I’m an RPer but I do have a WoL!version of my main. She’s a raen omnicaster/sorceress who grew up in a cult and was regarded as a sort of high priestess figure from birth, but For Reasons she was banished and wound up in occupied Doma. She ended up being picked up by the Empire and landed a position being trained to serve as a royal concubine which was great and all except oops she’s a powerful wizard ass bitch and so instead ends up becoming a court mage except OOPS she’s the chosen one-

so her WoL arc starts when she’s a bit older—early 30s or so—and she’s kind of a cranky, haughty bitch and no one wanted her there and she didn’t want to be there but actually she’s kind of a huge softie and sort of swings wildly between vodka aunt and team wine mom and confidante to her peers because she likes to hear all the Sweet Gossip anyway and she’s surprisingly easy to talk to when you can get past her bristles.

She’s also✨neurodivergent✨ as shit because girl same idk how to write characters that aren’t, and her special interests include botany and bugs she loves bugs so much.

Her name is Saya and she looks like this:

Okay are you kidding me this is like, THE BEST CHARACTER EVER??? AAAAH I love her aesthetic and story so much!! First of all she looks beautiful in that screenshot, so ethereal and menacing, and then also the drawing tells so much about her personality and kind of 'dark side'! I'm super interested in this character just from reading this, wow!! I love the idea that she had to comply to Garlean rules for a bit because of her status as a concubine, but then got to really do her shit and show how powerful she was as a sorceress thanks to her magic. I really love the cranky vodka aunt energy as you said, it's such a rare thing to have an older and more 'scarred' and disillusioned Wol, this is really something else!

She feels like a very realistic and fully fleshed character that could easily be a character in an actual book! Maybe that one character that looks shady as hell but is actually a good ally and companion when you get to know her. She gives me Morrigan from dragon age vibes (who's just one of the best characters ever), and also reminds me a bit of Yotsuyu - I hope it's not an offense or unwanted thing to say- but I really love the powerful sorceress aura she has, and also her personality is so different and ... refreshing to read! Hearing that she actually has a soft heart underneath that cold and prickly exterior made me want to be her friend now?? Excuse me, miss Saya, may we be friends or just acquaintances...

And yeah, this made me want to actually know more about this character and her adventures! I feel like she could take over the world and honestly? I'd let her. You can lay all of Eorzea low for all I care! You go queen!

Upon your arrival at Phantomhive manner you could never have imagined how this would play out.

Entering the large mansion for the first time, you were greeted by the four other working staff; they welcomed you with open arms explaining that the young master and his butler were off on a business trip for the next few days. When the Queen sent you, one of her personal maids, to start working in Phantomhive manner, it confused you. You didn’t know what had prompted this, nor were you really in a position to question it. You thought that as her half angel, half demon maid, she wouldn’t let you stray very far away from her, but alas, here you were.

They gave you a tour of the grand mansion and stopped by your small living quarters to let you settle. Due to your supernatural nature, that they were unaware of, it wasn’t too hard to settle in, especially, after they had tested your reflexes to aid in “the Phantomhive welcome”.

You had been at the mansion for a couple of days now, the Lord himself and his butler were due to arrive anytime from last night. While you knew the Lord could be the tiniest bit caring, you still thought you ought to make a good impression sicne the Queen didn’t care to mention how long you would be here.

The sound of brisk knocking brought you out of your thoughtful daze as you finished buttoning up your shirt’s cuffs. The noise startled you as in your few days at the manor, you were the one to be awake and working before the others.

“Excuse me, may I come in?” A deep voice followed the knocking, which prompted you to step towards the door and open it for the individual outside.

A small gasp left the dark haired males lips as his eyes locked with yours and a sense of familiarity washed over you.

“Oh! Goodmorning, you must be Sebastian, the head butler. I’m Y/N, the maid sent by the Queen to serve the young Lord. It’s lovely to finally meet you, I’ll introduce myself to the Lord when he leaves his quarters.” A smile graced your face as you rambled on, not taking notice of his initial look of shock, and his alluring features studied you.

The familiarity and comfort his face brought you was confusing. Being fairly young compared to other angels and demons, surely you’d remember everyone you’ve met? He had a strange aura, almost definitely supernatural. You couldn’t quite place where you had seen him before and that was going to be on your mind the whole day.

“You are correct, I am Sebastian. Please come to me if you have any concerns or require help. You can continue with your daily duties then and I shall be seeing to the young master now” with a quick bow, he briskly started walking away.

There was a constant elegance to him; it kept your eyes trained on him until he rounded the corner. That feeling of familiarity still lingering within your heart.

Sebastian paused after he had turned the corner to make sure he was out of your view. You had always owned his heart, and you would forever more. The reincarnations of you kept him going through his endless demon life. In this life and the next you two were promised to each other, a constant that you both needed in lives that lasted as long as yours would.

It was just a shame that you were cursed to forget him until you crossed paths, and even then, it took time for you to recollect and gain all your previous memories. He had one item that he had gifted to you in your last existence together, he had to try jogging your memory, right?

As the day continued on, quick introductions were exchanged between you and the young Lord before you were due to get back to your usual tasks. Sebastian by his side sparing glances at you any moment he could get when he thought no one was looking. Unbeknownst to him, a certain Phantomhive was very observant of it all. So he did what anyone would do and asked him about you.

“Sebastian, what is your connection to the new maid?” Ciel questioned, pausing his musical studies briefly to peek up at his butler.

“I don’t seem to understand what you mean, my Lord” the raven haired male sent a quick glance back at the boy before continuing.

“You seemed very distracted by her this morning” the younger male mused before too continuing with his music.

Although Sebastian wouldn’t say it, Ciel was right. You had invaded his head space since his eyes gazed over you this morning and he only wished that you remembered him quicker.

Reaching into his tail coat pocket, he checked that he still had the pendent. He knew it was there, it was just a force of habit that he checked and now it mattered most. He had carried the crimson pendant since your last passing, almost fifty years ago now.

“She’s my mate, my lover. She loves me, and I her, for eternity…” it was only quiet, but Ciel heard it.

“Shouldn’t she be running into your arms then? That’s what most novels say isn’t it?” This situation had peaked Ciel’s interest more so than before, you had only given the butler a few glances when focusing on your formal introduction to the Lord. He would have expected more longing looks for what sounded like such a profound love.

“Not all love stories are that of novels, my lord. There was once a curse placed upon us, she may only regain her previous memories after meeting me again, and even then it must be prompted by something”

“Well? What are you going to do?”

“Ah, always a curious one aren’t you, my Lord? I shall deal with it later, for now you need to get back to your studies” And so he did. Sebastian decided he would confront you later, but now he just needed to figure out how. It’s not a very simple thing to spring upon someone you’ve just met. If you didn’t regain your memories then you’d probably think he was a lunatic, or just a very big flirt.

The day had passed and night was closing in. The raven haired demon had prepared himself for this moment; he had waited patiently for so many years. With his gloved hands tightly clutched around the vermillion pendent, he took cautious strides towards your figure. Your back was turned away from the rest of the room as you dusted a tall cabinet in the corner.

A light tap was detected on your left shoulder causing you to whip your head round and meet the striking blood coloured eyes of the man behind you.

“Excuse me, but I think this belongs to you” he uncurled his fingers as he spoke to reveal a ruby pendant necklace and a tight lipped smile grew on his face.

“I’m sorry, you must be wrong. But as a maid I could never own such a high value item” the very prominent apologetic tone was laced with disappointment, he could tell you were just as infatuated with the ruby as you were when he first gifted it to you those many years ago.

“Oh on the contrary, my love” he reached forward to lightly pull your hand closer to his, placing the chain into your palm.

The look of bewilderment was obvious in your face, he had just addressed you as “my love” whilst giving you a piece of jewellery no maid would own. As he closed your palm around the accessorie it was like a warm familiar feeling filled you. Short memories were unveiled and unlocked in your mind, memories of him.

You began to hesitantly move your free hand to his face to cup his cheek, you had spent decades apart and were finally reunited and it all felt too good to be true.

“Going by Sebastian I see? I could get used to that” a teasing smile broke out on you face and Sebastian’s smile widened as he saw your old self shining through.

He couldn’t wait a moment longer and pulled your face forwards to meet his lips.

You made a mental note to thank the Queen for sending you here, and hoped that you’d be by his side for eternity once more.
