Spring troupe (separately) finding notes in their pockets from their s/o reminding them to take care of themselves and that they love them?

A/N: I wrote this as if it was an event that happened regularly! Hope that’s what you meant :) Also I loved writing this so much! This request was so cute, thank you so much anon ;^; Also Masumi has abandonment issues bc I said so and it makes a lot of sense with his character. And apologies Citron’s is the shortest, I’m still working on figuring out his character tbh

❀ Sakuya Sakuma

He’d be beyond himself when he found the first one

He blushes really hard whenever he reads them you’ve almost pavloved him into blushing every time he feels a piece of paper in his pocket

After a couple times of finding a note, he’ll definitely look forward to days where he finds them

He doesn’t do anything like run to his hoodie and check all his clothes everyday but when he happens to find one it always brings a smile to his face

He’d definitely text you to say thank you and respond with his own small message

He especially needs the reminders to take care of himself during spring though, as theatre takes up so much of his mind and he can get easily preoccupied

Sakuya sat outside in the courtyard, reviewing his script for the nth time. A cool breeze passed through and tousled his hair. He placed a hand in his hoodie pocket, not wanting to get cold; as soon as he reached in he felt a scrap of paper scrape against his hand. Sakuya immediately began to blush and quickly pulled out the paper.

"Reminder to eat today! Hope you have a great day and good luck with rehearsals <3"

He couldn’t help but let a giant grin spread across his face. Then the realization that he hadn’t eaten yet hit him. Omi had just been out not too long ago, or so he thought, to remind him dinner was ready. Sakuya had responded that he’d be there momentarily, but got distracted by the new script.

He quickly got up and began to make his way to the kitchen and dining room. There at the table he saw a handful of the Mankai Company members, including Omi.

“There you are! I was about to go remind you again dinner was ready.”

“Sorry, I got distracted. What did you cook today?”

Omi shook his head. “I didn’t. Izumi did.” Sakuya nodded in acknowledgement, knowing exactly what that meant,

“It’s alright. Now sit down and eat!” Sakuya grabbed a plate and served himself some curry and found a place at an empty seat. He pulled the note out from his pocket again, reading and rereading it again and again just like he did with every note.

After he ate dinner he made sure to text you a thank you.

❀ Tsuzuru Minagi

The first time he found a note he was shocked; he didn’t really have enough time to process it as he was on his way to one of his part-time jobs but during his shift he continued to fumble as he couldn’t get it off his mind

Tsuzuru reached into his pocket for a pen, fingers crossed he didn’t forget one to his server job. He quickly found the writing utensil, but next to it he could feel a scrap of paper. He figured it must have been a reminder he wrote for himself that he forgot about. He pulled the small piece out of his pocket and froze in his tracks once he read it. It wasn’t a note he had written for himself, instead it was a note you had written for him.

"Remember that I care about you and don't forget to take care of yourself today!"

He could barely register the words as he read them, but the immediate emotion he felt was absolute love for you.

He most likely finds any note on his way to a college class or while working one of his part-time jobs

If he finds one while he’s with a member of the Mankai company he probably won’t read it as he prefers to read them when he’s alone since they’re personal and special to him

He tries to keep them but sometimes he just gets disorganized so he may accidentally throw them away; he still has at least half though

He tries his best to follow the notes when they’re reminders (e.g. eating when you remind him to eat) as he doesn’t want to somehow accidentally disappoint you

He definitely needs the reminders when he’s writing scripts as he will not step away from his computer once it comes time for another play; if you leave him a note to eat or drink water there’s a higher chance he’ll at least eat something small or take some sips of water

Since he’s someone who tends to look out for other people, knowing someone is looking after him just makes him incredibly happy

❀ Masumi Usui

He froze as soon as he opened the first note he received as he could barely think; his thoughts were too full of his love for you and he didn’t want it any other way

He probably immediately texted you as soon as he reads it to tell you he loves you and has continued to text you a thank you or ‘ily’ every time he gets a note and decides to check on you in the same message

He loves checking his jackets after he sees you to see if you’ve left a note; and once Tsuzuru told you he checks you started leaving them after every time you went over

He keeps all the notes in a jar on his desk; just seeing them all collected in one place brings a smile to his face

Whenever he feels lonely, or his abandonment issues act up, he brings the jar up to his bed and reads them one by one

Masumi sat in his desk chair, exasperated. He had messaged you a couple times throughout the day and you hadn’t responded despite looking at his messages and he was growing concerned. His mind was beginning to race and he began to assume and fear the worst. Then the jar on his desk caught his eye. He carefully grabbed it, tucked it under one arm, and climbed up to his bed. There he unscrewed the lid and one by one pulled out and read each and every note he had ever gotten from you.

“Reminder that I love you!’

“Remember to eat and drink water <3”

“(ღ˘⌣˘)♥ love you!”

“This song made me think of my feelings for you- Stupid for You by Waterparks <3”

“Good luck with rehearsal today! (ɔˆ ³(ˆ⌣ˆc)"

Tears began to well in his eyes and he made sure to wipe them away with the back of his hand, lest he ruin one of the precious notes with his tears. Never had he felt so loved before you, and he mentally noted to tell you how much he appreciated you the next time he saw you.

After having dealt with his parents not being there and growing up with no friends, he values you and your reminders an immense amount

He may try to leave you notes as well, but he’d much rather express his love for you in person

❀ Itaru Chigasaki

The first time he found one of your notes, he was overwhelmed with love for you; he could practically see the ‘+10’ affection points above his head as he read it

Itaru probably finds the notes once he’s at work if you put them in his jacket

His morning is much too hectic to be able to read it while at the dorms, so he tends to read it every time he drains his LP (yes, every time; your notes brighten his day)

Itaru stepped away from his desk. He had been watching the clock as his lunch hour ticked closer and closer, and once the time was reached, he made his way out of the office. Once he got to his car and began to drain his LP, he reached into his pocket to pull out the note you had left in his pocket that morning.

"Don’t forget to refill your stats! Remember to eat something and drink water, and keep in mind that ily <3"

He couldn't help but smile at the note, unlocking his phone to both drain his LP and to message you a quick thank you in response to your nerdy reminder.

If you use gamer lingo or nerdy references in the notes he will be positively enamored

He tends to just put them somewhere in a designated desk drawer, sometimes taping his favorites down to the top of the desk to make sure they don’t get lost and to see them while he games

If he’s streaming and he sees one of the notes on his desk out of the corner of his eye, he always ends up smiling and tends to have a habit of taking a drink of water when he sees one

If you leave a note in his gaming sweatshirt, it may take a bit for him to find it but when he does he’s very grateful -even though he has a smaller chance of actually listening to it-

At times when he’s very preoccupied, he may forget that you leave him notes at all so it’s like a new surprise all over again

❀ Citron

He was incredibly happy when he received his first note from you

After the first note he received, he began leaving notes for you as well

Sometimes the notes can be hard to decipher due to him forgetting and switching up words but it’s the thought that counts

You had left a note on Citron’s desk the night before, and when you arrived at the dorm the next day he thanked you for it and gave you a tight hug. While you were there he was telling stories of his home country. He spoke of the food, the towns, and his pet Juliano.

Eventually it began to get dark and you had to bid your boyfriend a farewell. He gave you a kiss on your cheek as you departed, and offered a smile and wave as you exited out the door.

Once outside the bitter winds nipped at your skin, so you placed your hands in your pockets in an attempt to keep them warm. But once you did so, you could feel a scrap of paper scratch against your fingertips. You quickly pulled it out, wondering what it could be. You unfolded it and there in familiar handwriting you found the following note:

"Remember that I am loving you always! Have a safe trip home and do not forget to crink water!!"

You could assume he meant ‘drink’ instead of ‘crink’. His struggle with language definitely found its way into the notes he gave you, but if anything it made him that much more endearing. On your way home, you made sure to buy a bottle of water.

His notes may sometimes come off as nonsensical due to his issues with language

If you really need help translating it, just ask another troupe member and they should be able to help

He doesn’t check his pockets for notes since he loves the surprise of finding them

❀ Utsuki Chikage

The first time he found a note in his pocket he felt so happy and appreciated it more than anything, although you wouldn’t have been able to tell if you were there due to his amazing poker face

Chikage has guilt and baggage and the fact that you stay with him amazes him, but he’s so grateful

After reading them he does throw the notes away, not because he doesn’t like them, but because they feel so special to him he doesn’t want anyone else to have the opportunity to read the words you wrote especially for him

Because of this, he does his best to memorize them

It was originally difficult to know if he was even finding the notes since he’d never let you know or anything of that such

You had been leaving notes in your boyfriend’s pockets for months now. They were simple notes, things such as, ‘Don’t forget to eat today!’ or ‘Remember I care about you and like you no matter your past’. It shouldn't have made you so nervous that you couldn’t tell if Chikage had actually found them, or if he found them annoying, but knots of anxiety were developing in your stomach. So you decided to call him.

He picked up on the fourth ring, “Chikage Utsuki speaking.”

“Hey, Chikage.”

“Oh, hello. To what may I offer the pleasure of this call?”

“Um,” you paused, collecting your thoughts, “so, I’ve been leaving these little..notes? In your pockets? And I was just curious if you had gotten them or if you found them annoying because if you do I can stop-” a laugh on the other side cut you off. “What? What’s so funny?”

Chikage continued to chuckle, “No, I’ve found them.” He lowered his voice to a whisper, like he didn’t want anyone else but you to hear, “I really appreciate them. Thank you.”

“Oh! Well I’m glad.” you were almost positive Chikage could hear your smile through the phone.

“Was that all?”

“Yeah, sorry. I’ll see you later. Bye!”

“Goodbye.” the click of the end call button rang in your ears, but you couldn’t help but continue to smile.

After a while, it’s easier to tell when he has recently read a note as he may come off as somewhat more affectionate but whether he does it on purpose or not you can’t completely tell

You finished your drink and knew that if you tried to get up and walk, it would be stumble city. You started snacking on the peanuts on the bar and pulled out your phone. With the image of a less-than-perfect Victor in your mind, you texted him:

Victor responded within seconds: “I take pride in my appearance. It’s important to always look professional.”

You typed back: “I just think it would be interestinf to see how u look with your hair and clothes out of pkace”

Before you could come up with a plan, another text came through.

“Stay where you are. I’m coming to get you.”

Now you were excited. Maybe you really would get the chance to see Victor looking disheveled.

After a few minutes, Victor arrived at the bar. He walked up to you and leaned down close to your ear so you could hear him over the music. “Come on dummy, lets go.”

You grabbed your purse off the bar and stumbled after Victor. He quickly grabbed your waist to stablize you as you walked out.

Victor walked you to his car and opened the passenger seat, gently helping you sit down. He then grabbed your purse.

“Where are your keys?”

You tapped around your dress looking for them. “I don’t know.” You slurred as you looked up at Victor with a slight smile.

“Idiot. Put on your seatbelt.”

You closed your eyes and listened to the low hum of the car as he drove.

You quickly arrived at Victors apartment. You grabbed onto his hand as he dragged you upstairs. Victor unlocked the door and moved you inside. You looked up at him with a smirk. Victor quickly grabbed you and swung you over his shoulder.

Before you could have a second thought, Victor flopped you down on his couch.

You looked over at him. “Doesn’t grilled cheese seem a little boring for you? I mean you’re an incredible chef.”

He peaked down from his report and smirked at you before going back to reading.

You picked up the grilled cheese and took a bite. This was the most amazing grilled cheese you had ever tasted in your entire life. Damn that Victor. He really was perfect at everything.

You finished eating and drank the entire glass of water. Victor stood up and walked over to you. He grabbed a blanket from the back of the couch and wrapped it around you before taking the dishes.

“It a bit cold in here. Wouldn’t want you getting sick.” He stated before walking back into the kitchen.

Victor walked back and sat down in the chair again going back to his report.

You sat, wrapped up on the couch looking over at him. You couldn’t believe a man could look like he did. Even while he was focused on his report he looked like a model.

You stood up with the blanket still wrapped around you and walked over to him. You gently pushed his hands up and moved to straddle his lap, facing him.

“MC, I told you-“

“I know. I just want to be close to you for awhile.” You moved your head down to his chest and laid against it, you quickly fell asleep listening to his gentle heartbeat.

You woke up after a few hours and heard faint voices coming from behind you. You slowly lifted your head and looked behind you to see the TV on. Woah... Victor was watching TV? And a competition cooking show at that... if anyone knew how fake those shows were, it was him.

You turned your head to look at him. His head was laid back against the chair asleep. You had never seen him look so peaceful before. There was no furrow in his brow and he was breathing silently.

Victor stirred at your movement and looked at you, groggily.

“Are you feeling better?”

You felt your cheeks get hot. “Yes I am, thank you Victor.” You said almost in a whisper.

Also, I had Goldman pick you up some clothes today. I don’t think that dress is appropriate for anyone except me.

Right now, its Kickstarter is doing really well for a totally new game, yet we’d love more backers getting a chance to playtest via the Early Access version available to every backer.

And, we’d also love folks to download the backer previews of the actual text and let us know what you think. Feedback now would be super helpful.

Even though it is Storypath-powered game, we’ve added enough extra materials that allow for not only a straight-forward style of playing, but also some pretty hilariously meta sessions as well, and we’d love to hear how those new elements like Quips and Props work around your table.

Although, as Matthew lets us know in the Media-focused part of the Blurbs below, at least one group is mixing They Came From! with their World of Darkness gaming! We had expected a bit of Trinity Continuum or Scion mixing since They Came From! is also a Storypath system game, but it’s cool that folks are diving in with other mash-ups as well.

In mentioning Mid-Winter, I was, of course, mentioning the convention that all of us from Onyx Path will be attending at the end of the week. We’ll have all of our game lines being played, sometimes with the very folks who wrote and created them, so it’s a rare chance to play with our whole crew.

We’ll also have our Q&A event late Thursday afternoon in the opulent Founder’s Room. You have to sign up, but once you enter that sanctum, we have a bunch of announcements of upcoming projects, some alcohol, and we pretty much do an AMA right there in a far more intimate space than your usual panel/seminar meeting room.

Previous years have been hilarious, and lots of stories were shared. It’s the right sort of way to meet up at a con where we’re already mixing it up with the attendees in games, in the restaurants and bars, and even the hotel lobbies.

Lest you think it’s us that are being all spontaneously open and stuff all by our lonesome, that’s not the case. Mid-Winter has a deliberate openness and friendliness that’s fostered by the whole crew that runs it – so you get a lot of attendees that go every year. I’m personally looking forward to seeing our Mid-Winter friends again this year!

Now, the other part of Mid-Winter is that almost our entire Onyx Path Monday Meeting team will be there in order to have our annual Onyx Path Summit.

The Summit is where we’ll look at what went down in 2018 and look towards how we want 2019 to go. We’ll do some team-building exercises, and we’ll laugh a bit, and probably cry a bit too. It’s a rare chance to get us all together, and it sets the tone and direction for our decisions throughout the year.

Since that’s happening, and we’ll also be announcing new projects at the con, it makes sense that I talk about our plans for 2019 more next week, and so this week I’m going to give you our thoughts about what were the highlights of 2018 – the year that was.

Usually, it’s just our crew doing this, but this year Matthew asked for thoughts from our YouTube viewers, so I’ll be including some of the ones that talk directly about Onyx Path highlights – even though it’s awesome that folks had a great D&D campaign last year or that sort of thing.

From Mighty Matt McElroy: A highlight for me was seeing the community content programs for Pugmire and Scarred Lands expand with new titles and fresh ideas from the fans of those games. I can’t wait to see what people come up with for 2019.

From Dynamic Dixie Cochran: My highlight was coming on full time and immediately doing the (pretty successful) Dragon-Blooded Kickstarter! I’m also excited we started the Pathcast and shipped Changeling: The Lost Second Edition. (I can’t pick one thing!)

From Erlan P on YouTube: Happy holidays The best gaming experience was playing Scion, the Wolfsheim story. The players decided to fight the werewolf to stop the Kindernacht. They fought all the main werewolf character and the Fenrir. The battle was so brutal that at the end of it one character died, two were incapacitated (one even losing a whole arm!) and the only one standing was at -4, just barely moving. It was supposed to be an impossible battle, they should had realized it eventually and ran, but no one gave up, and at the end they were victorious.

From Mirthful Mike Chaney: Dragon-Blooded pdfs going out a little earlier than promised and Lost 2e shipping early.

From David F on YouTube: Favorite moment tied to gaming in 2018 was watching my wife light up when I told her that her likeness would be used in Geist 2.0 (close tie with Scion for her favorite game).

From Monica Valentinelli: A highlight for me was seeing the D&D community geek out about Scarred Lands, Mau, and Pugmire at GameHole Con. It was fun to nerd out.

From Drew1749 on YouTube: My favorite gaming experience this year was the Changeling 20th Anniversary game one of my friends ran for us. The premise of the game was fairly simple but was so much fun, we were the guardians of a freehold that existed within a middle school in Ohio. As such the heroes were all given jobs as members of the school’s faculty regardless of qualifications. There were several groups of changelings in the freehold, each with different assignments and responsibilities. Some students were also Changelings and we had to protect the students and freehold in general from outsiders and fae intrusions.

There a lot more to Drew’s comment, and it’s all good stuff so check it out if you can, but I had to keep these to a paragraph. Sorry, Drew.

From Stray Reaper on YouTube: Best Gaming Experience for 2018 definitely has to be returning to my friend’s kitchen sink Chronicles of Darkness game. I got to finally play around as an Acanthus.

From Brandon S on YouTube: The highlight for me this year has been my World War II Werewolf the Apocalypse 20th game (which I take far too much joy in stylizing as WWIIWW) set behind enemy lines in Arnsberg, Germany mere days before the British dambusters flooded the area.

From Matthew “The Gentleman Gamer” Dawkins: My highlight was Vampire-themed, and could be one of two things. It was either the release (to wide acclaim) of Beckett’s Jyhad Diary, or the excellent writing and successful Kickstarter funding of Chicago by Night for V5. We turned that book around in an efficient manner, and I feel due to the diversity and mixed experience of the writing team, we put together one of the best Vampire sourcebooks ever made.

And finally, from Thiago H: I always like Scion, but got the same problems everyone knows. Crunked system, complicated character creation, the combat system was hard do explain (but I thought it amazing anyway). And then, 2nd edition came. And man, I got really surprised. The system is amazing, character creation is awesome, we have heroism, the players can contribute actively in the narrative, they really weave LEGENDS as the group progresses. I fell deeply in love with everything.

First Video Review

Am I allowed to do this for such a minor thing? Whatever, I’m gonna do it. If you somehow missed my spam (apologies, btw), here’s the video.

I’m gonna run down the feedback I received and also a lot of thoughts of my own.

Recommended soundtrack

So, btw, Youtube Analytics is like way more detailed than I expected. I guess this is what happens when your parent company is a massive search engine that makes money on incredibly specific targeted ads.

I digress.

It’s been about 24 hrs since I published the video, and it’s gotten about as many views as I’d expected (which is to say, less than fifty). Here’s the breakdown:

33 views with 120 minutes of total watch time (audience retention of ~45%). 2 comments, both positive (thanks guys!). Pretty much all my views came from discord, where I shared the video and asked for feedback. All the discord views are complete watch throughs, other sources are a mixed bag, most people dropped after around 2 minutes.

With that in mind, this video is basically unlisted on youtube, given that no one has seen it, nor will it be recommended often.

That’s fine, I don’t really mind. I think the video deserves around maybe 100 views. Max. Seriously.

Let’s start with feedback:

1) Audio balance is the worst

Yea sorry about that. I’ll be honest, when I recorded then put the music, I thought it was fine, but now that I watch it, yea the music is a bit too loud at points, and the ed cut in was way louder than my talking volume, it’s a bit of a mess. I suspect it’s because when I’m just listening to audio, I close my eyes and focus, but on a video, I’m watching a thing so the audio gets messed up more in my head, so the parts that need to stick out need to be more emphasized. I’ll get it sorted for the next time.

2) Text on screen is weird

There’s a few pieces to this. First of all, the transition is just really bad. The slides in particular. @shinbec made a great point about how dated they feel. I’ll defend myself, I chose the slide transition because I thought it provide a specific energy to the video. It does, but he’s right, they feel like they’re made in powerpoint. The fade ins are less problematic, but they do lack variety. Moving forward, I’ll probably have to come up with some more interesting transitions. Especially between scenes.

Secondly, the use of the text in general. @chuuni-p made a good point saying that the text at the beginning with the direct quotes felt weird. Yea, it kind of does. I suspect it’s a combination of the poor transition and the strange phrasing (saying “quote” “end quote” very much cuts into your mental flow of the paragraph). But he did like the quotes near the end where I didn’t directly quote. I’m a bit torn on this. I like the direct quotes and then the text because it adds a sense of proof. Like, here it is! I’m not lying! kind of thing. If that makes sense. But the transition fails to emphasize that. This is all just something I should keep in mind for future text on videos. I don’t think this is something that is going to go away, it has to get better.

3) My voice is nice

Hey, thanks. I like my voice, I’m glad other people like it too.

Now then, on to my own personal criticisms.

The video now feels far too long to me. You may recall my surprise at my recording being 8 minutes and 30 seconds long. But it makes sense. I wrote about 1300 words, and I speak at about 175 wpm (this is above average). Of course it was gonna be 8 minutes long. It would be great if it needed to be 8 minutes long.

But it doesn’t need to be.

The video meanders, I think. When I wrote the script, I set out to post an interesting video about how Project No Chikara actually ended up revitalizing anime, even though its shows failed, with an interesting minor point on how the theme of the first show (So Ra No Wo To) actually lines up fittingly with that premise. Yet, due to the structure of the essay, it ends up being something else.

Here’s the structure of the video:

Intro (what is anime no chikara?) Body 1 (What So Ra No Wo To does well) Body 2 (What So Ra No Wo To does poorly) Conclusion (How did Anime no Chikara end?)

Just looking at this, you might see the issue. If you look at the topics of each paragraph, they don’t line up together. The Intro and the Conclusion are related, and the two body paragraphs are, but they aren’t technically related to each other.

And that’s the rub.

Essentially what I did was write a So Ra No Wo To review (6/10 btw) and then forced a structure into the intro and conclusion so that I didn’t have to title the video “So Ra No Wo To Review.” I don’t think that’s a very good strategy, and it lacks a sense of cohesion. Like seriously, you could rip out the middle two paragraphs (starting at around 1:00 and ending at about 6:50) and put the “thanks for watching” at the end of Amazing Grace and it would be cohesive. I could call that video “So Ra No Wo To, A Review on Moving Forward” and I think it would be a decent generic anime video.

I talked with another friend about this the other day. I think I could rip Body 2 out entirely, and restructure Body 1 to be more about Anime no Chikara and the integration with So Ra No Wo To. It would require more research and less “oh btw the show did x” but it would be a more flowing and exciting viewing experience. At least I think so.

My favorite book on writing, On Writing Well, has multiple chapters dedicated to ruthless cutting. The author mentions his distaste for adverbs because they rarely add to a description, unless you are using poor adjectives. He talks about how when he was a teacher, he’d tell his students to make their 10 page articles into 5 pagers, and once they’ve finished, ask them to make it a 4 pager.

If you’ve paid attention to The Nerdwriter, you may know that he used to make a video every single week. To be frank, that’s an ungodly amount of production for a single man making tightly edited videos. But it speaks volumes that when he slowed production down from 4/month to 2/month in order to “focus more on each video,” his videos remained short—they did not grow longer.

You might read all this and think I’m being kind of hard on myself for my first video. I got quite a lot of compliments, lots of people excited for where my channel is headed. (spoilers, it’s headed straight into a million kyoani videos.)

Maybe I am hard on myself. But if you consider video essays a form of art, and I certainly do, then I should learn to color in the lines.

Teachers Pet part 1/2

Warnings: nsfw due to some strong language.

Hello everyone! This is my first ever rick x reader fic and I hope you enjoy it. Thanks to @kitten-wrath and @psychololitaxo for their support and help during the writing process. Part two will follow shortly.

You remembered it like it was yesterday. The warm summer sun that kissed your face and the sweet sounds of waves crashing onto the beach. The distant sounds of seagulls and the warm breeze that occasionally brushed against your skin. You weren't much of a fan of the beach, but once you were there you found everything about it very peaceful. In fact, it was one of your favorite places to sit and read a book. You laid on your stomach on a beach towel in the shade of the large umbrella you set up yourself. You propped your head up on one fist, while the other held open the new book you immersed yourself in. At least you were, until you noticed a darker shadow had covered the pages you were reading. You furrowed your brow and glanced up and noticed a figure. Your heart skipped a beat when you immediately recognized the slender man that stood above you. Your eyes traveled up his body. He obviously just walked out of the ocean, because his swim trunks clung to his frame and hung low revealing the light blue pubes that were meant to be hidden by his shorts. This was accompanied by water that traveled down his body and onto the sand in front of you. Your eyes moved to his face, which was framed by his wet, unruly hair. He was in the process of slicking it back in the fashion you had grown to love. You gulped when you noticed that damn smirk that always made your heart race. You sat slack-jawed for several seconds before shaking your head and regaining your thoughts.

“M-mr. Sanchez? What the hell are you doing here?” He crossed his arms before opening his mouth to speak. Except words didn't come out, a familiar inhuman tone did. Confusion spread across your face and a strange pull began to tug at your consciousness.

“What..?” He chucked and opened his mouth to speak once again, the same tone coming from his mouth a second time.

Realization sparked through your thoughts and you yanked yourself from sleep, quickly grasping for your phone that was on a nearby dresser. You glanced at the screen, which had two texts waiting to be opened from Mr. Sanchez himself. You unlocked the screen and read through them. Where the hell are you, do you have any idea what time it is?, the two messages read. Your eyes grew wide and you glanced at the time in the corner of your phone. “FUCK.” You jumped out of bed and immediately ran to your closet to round up some form of attire.

You had been begging Mr. Sanchez all summer to let you to be the teacher’s aid for his biology class. You loved the subject itself, but loved the way he taught it even more. Unlike many other professors, he was very passionate about the subject. The way he talked about it made you want to pay attention and learn more about it. That was one reason you so desperately wanted to be the teacher’s aid; so you could learn even more than what he taught in class. The other reason was because you just couldn't get over how sexy he was. Most of the girls in his class couldn't stand how arrogant or vulgar he was, but you? You couldn't get enough of that man. So when he finally said yes to you becoming his teacher’s aid, you were over the moon. He asked you to arrive to class early, around 6, to review the syllabus and discuss your tasks, but here you were on the first day, jumping out of bed at 7:30.

Once you had clothes on, you rushed to the bathroom, freshened up, and put your hair up in a bun. You then went to the kitchen, grabbed a granola bar and rushed out the door. The university was about a 30 minutes away, so you wasted no time pulling out of your driveway and driving away just below a speed that would catch the attention of a police officer.

Once you arrived at the school you checked your appearance in the rear view before jumping out of the car and rushed towards the building as fast as your feet could carry you. You bounded through the hallways and screeched to a halt in front of the classroom. You bent over slightly and placed your hands on your knees, remaining there until you were able to catch your breath and regain composure. You reached for the handle of the classroom and turned it, opening it to a silent auditorium of students that had turned their attention towards you. Your face turned a bright pink as you slowly entered the room. You glanced at the students momentarily before looking to the front of the classroom, where a clearly irritated Mr. Sanchez stood with his textbook and whiteboard marker in hand. You quickly made your way to the front of the room and took a seat in the front row. As you placed your things on the ground beside you, you could feel the daggers Sanchez bore into the back of your head. You gulped and hesitated, but you slowly straightened yourself and shot him an apologetic look. His features softened and he cleared his throat, continuing his lecture. Eventually, you began to relax and take in the lecture you were now hearing for the second time. The first week, the only thing that was being discussed was cells, which was the only subject in biology you dreaded. So you took the time to take in Mr. Sanchez over the lecture this time.

This year, Mr. Sanchez was wearing glasses, which to your surprise, made him look even more desirable than he was before. He was wearing the brown suit, plaid shirt, red tie combo that drove you mad and he had his hair slicked back in a semi-formal fashion. Needless to say, he looked damn good this semester too, and you couldn't pull your eyes away -- which he seemed to have noticed. He gave a quick glance in your direction and a smirk rose to his expression. He winked, and turned his attention back to his book, flipping the page. A blush rose your face once more and you bit your lip, feeling the warmth that grew in your loins. You quickly leaned down to your bag on the floor and pulled out the textbook you purchased last semester. You opened to the page you figured he was on and pretended to read to cover your sudden arousal. It was clear you pretended a little too hard though, because soon enough the class had ended, and students started pouring out the door. Your heart began to hammer in your chest, you couldn't imagine the harsh lecture that was sure to come from Sanchez at any second. You began to move your book back to your bag at the slowest imaginable pace to avoid eye contact with the professor for as long as possible. As you were still adjusting the book in the backpack, you could feel his presence in front your table and you sighed.

“Listen, Mr. Sanchez, I'm so sorry. I really thought I set my alarm last night, but I--” You were cut short by a firm hand gripping your chin that moved your head to face him. Your heart just about jumped through your chest when you realized his face was just inches from yours. Instinctively, your eyes darted to his lips, then to his eyes -- which were dominated by a stern look -- but they hinted at a cocky grin that was sure to follow soon enough.

“Y-you would think a-after 2 years in my class, some students would figure out that I can't stand excuses. Also, call me Rick.”

You bit your lip and sat silently. In the back of your mind you couldn't help but wonder when -- or if -- he would close the gap, but instead his thumb grazed the side of your mouth, presumably to wipe off remaining crumbs from the granola bar you failed to see while checking in the mirror of your car. He then released your chin and leaned back.

“Now, let's get to the business at hand. We n-(uurp) we need to go over the syllabus and discuss what you'll be doing this semester -- whatever the fuck that is...” He trailed off at the end and you giggled. He smirked and turned heel, walking back to his desk to gather his book and a few papers. “W-ere going back to my office. Get your shit and come on.”

He glanced back before reaching in his suit and pulling out a silver flask, which he unscrewed and brought to his lips. He took a single swig before placing it back into his coat pocket. He started for the door and you immediately grabbed your stuff and ran after him. He opened the door and exited the room, holding the door for you until you were clear of the door frame. He then began making his way towards his office. You followed in silence for a few moments, admiring his tall frame from behind and how it moved, before a willing topic crossed your mind.

“So, when did you get glasses?” You sped up to walk beside him and glanced at him from the side. He rolled his eyes.

“I'm getting old, babe. T-these eyes aren't 20/20 anymore. I didn't want to but my daughter insisted a-and she's just like her mother. God forbid if I didn't get some damn glasses.”

You blinked. Old? Yeah you guessed you could see it, but he didn't seem all that old to you. He didn't act or look a day over 50, but with everything he knew about science it wouldn't surprise you if he was over 70. What did surprise you, however was the mention of his family. You figured he may have had a daughter, but you hadn't even considered him having a wife. You quickly glanced down at his finger to check for a ring and found none. You returned your attention back to his face and asked without a second thought, “Is there a Mrs. Sanchez?”

You instantly felt embarrassed by your question and braced for an answer you weren't looking forward to. An unidentifiable expression snapped to his face for a few seconds before turning into a sly smirk; he gave you a sideways glance.

“A little forward, aren't we?” he chuckled. “It's almost as if you li-- have a little (uurp) crush on me.” He flashed you a devilish grin, which caused your heart to flutter and a blush to rise onto your cheeks. You began to protest, but noticed Sanchez’s expression fall into a hard line and he cleared his throat. “There was a Mrs. Sanchez, but we lost her many many years ago. No biggie, so don't give me any sympathy talks. I get enough of that shit from the other professors here.”

You nodded, a sense of guilt beginning to well up inside you, but your thoughts were interrupted when you both stopped in front of a door. Rick pulled out his keys and unlocked the door. He allowed the door to open and motioned for you to step inside. You thanked him before entering and you looked around. The office was well lit by over head lights and relatively packed with paperwork and books. It contained a desk covered with even more books, papers, writing utensils and a few empty mugs that seemed to have been used recently. You made your way to one of the two chairs in front of the desk and took a seat, placing your things beside the chair. You watched as Rick circled around the desk to the other side and took a seat, placing his stuff in front of him. He leaned back against his chair and pulled the flask from before out of his pocket, took another swig and placed it on the desk. He then took the papers from under his book and glanced at it, his expression turning to a frown.

“FUCK, I left the actual syllabus in the desk of the classroom. I-I’ll be right back. Don't move.”

You agreed as you watched him leave the room and shut the door behind him. You then glanced around the room, curiosity beginning to well up inside you. You wanted to know more about Rick, his family, his hobbies, his love life. You checked the door once more and rose from your seat and crossed to the other side of the desk. You stared at the many drawers in front of you and hesitated, reasoning telling you to not go through with this, especially since you just got the job. You quickly pushed the thoughts out of your mind and reached for the top drawer. What you found was very underwhelming -- just a stack of printer paper and some pens. You closed it and opened the next, which was much like the first -- just a bunch of office supplies placed in a drawer organizer. You immediately closed it and reached for the final, larger drawer below it. Before opening, you listened for footsteps. Once you concluded the coast was clear, you opened it and immediately found what you had been looking for.

You picked up a picture frame that had been in the desk and inspected it closely. You smiled when you noticed a much younger Rick with who you assumed was his wife and daughter. It appeared to be the child's birthday and they all wore their best, goofiest smiles to please the camera. Seeing Rick like that gave you an entirely different perspective on the usually grumpy man. Beforehand, you had been slightly intimidated by him, but now that you've seen him in such a silly state, you wouldn't be able to take him as seriously anymore.

You flipped the frame -- about to remove the backing -- when the door to the office opened. Sudden panic washed over you, and all the control to your body flew out the window. You lost your grip on the frame, and despite your best effort to catch it, it fell on the floor with a crack. Your heart raced and before you even looked at the door you fell to all fours and picked up the frame, inspecting the damage the floor had caused. Your eyes grew wide and dread overwhelmed your thoughts as the glass from the frame fell out onto the floor. You looked up just as Rick had made his way to your side.

The frustration on his face was evident and he reached down, snatching the frame from your hands. He stared at it for several seconds before looking down at you with rage. You felt your heart sink to your stomach.

“Y-you -- you FUCKING CUNT. What the fuck did I tell you, huh? Are you that fucking dumb that you can't even follow simple instructions?” You slowly rose to your feet and clutched your arms, staring at the ground. He grabbed your arms hard, forcing you to look up at him. “Why are you so fucking useless? You've been nothing but careless and--and irresponsible all day! Can't you do anything right in your Goddamn life? You..you fucking teens. I knew having you as a teachers aid would be the worst fucking idea.”

Tears began to well up in your eyes. You felt bad for dropping his family photo and this was adding to the cake. He was hitting right where it hurt. His eyes softened momentarily, but they quickly filled with anger once again.

“Get out of my office” he hissed and released you, moving past you to sit at his desk. You released a sob and quickly rounded up your stuff, heading for the door. You made one last glance at Rick, who was sitting with both hands threaded through his hair. His head was bowed with his eyes closed. You opened the door and walked out, letting the door shut behind you. You wiped tears from your eyes and walked as fast as possible out of the building and to your car. Once you were safely in your car, you allowed the tears to fall as you started the engine and sped out of the parking lot.

You had just gotten off of Skype with your parents, your boyfriend Mark was by your side. The one thing you had wanted was for him to meet your parents, and get their approval. More or less to show off what a wonderful guy you had met. You moved to Korea on a whim, without your parents, hoping to work for a large entertainment company after becoming obsessed with the way the entertainment industry worked in Korea; even if that meant just being a staff member.

“Your parents are so nice” Mark smiled, tucking the laptop to the side before returning to face you. His eyes were instantly met with your glossy ones, tears starting to spill from it’s ducts. Without saying a word, his smile faded, and he planted a kiss on the top of your head before pulling you into his side with a big hug. This was the first time he’d ever seen you truly cry, and it was unfortunately a feeling he knew all too well. Being a foreigner, all alone, and not even having the safety of friends or family around. He knew how lonely you must be feeling without your family.

“It’s okay baby, i’m here when you need me. Cry all you need to, i’m not leaving…”

Renjun

You were sitting on the floor of his dorm room, as he attempted to clean up a little. Sharing a room with a bunch of guys often meant it was messy, and usually you’d offer to help. Though after the 3rd time of you ending up cleaning up for him, and decided to just sit on his bed and read. It was probably your favourite book, but the ending always made you tear up a little because you got attached to the male lead character.

“Oh my gosh, this plate must have been here since our debut! It’s moldy and stinks. No wonder why we couldn’t find out where that smell was coming from…” Renjun exclaimed, holding a plate with what may have once been food, from under one of the other members bed. He looked over to you, to see you in tears. The book face down on his bed.

“Is the smell REALLY that bad that you’re crying?”

“No you dork, my favourite character just died…” you sniffled, whipping your tears away.

“Aw, i’m sorry. Will a cuddle help?” he asked, walking towards you.

“Once you throw that nasty thing away, and sanitize your hands,” you giggled through a couple more tears.

“As you wish…”

Jeno

Movie nights with Jeno were one of your favourite things. The two of you cuddled up together with popcorn and a package of chocolate chips which were also sprinkled around the bowl. It was his turn to pick the movie, but he suggested you picked it together in celebration of your 6 months anniversary. You settled on a film called ‘The Boy in the Stripped Pyjamas’ which neither of you have watched. The reviews were really good, it seemed interesting with the theme being around the war.

Little did you know, it was the most heartbreaking movie you’ve seen in a very long time. Most of the movie you were trying to hold back tears; but halfway through the movie, you tucked your face into his shirt and small sniffling started to escape your mouth.

“Are you okay?” he asked, patting the top of your head.

“No…” you whispered, gripping his shirt a little; your face still buried in his chest.

“You’re so cute when you’re cuddled like this, but don’t be sad. It hurts my heart for you to cry like this.”

Haechan

“Can I see your hair?” Haechan asked as you pulled the hoodie tighter to your head.

“No! I look awful! It’s so short and my mom did such a bad job!”

“There is no way it could be that bad, just take off the hood.”

“Please don’t make fun of me…” you whispered, removing the hood. Your hair which once touched the middle of your back, now sat just above your shoulders, “I look like Dora the Explorer.”

“I thought you said it was bad?” Haechan wiped a tear from your eyes as you stared at the ground.

“I hate my stupid brother! I can’t believe he got my hair sucked up in the blowdryer!”

“It’s okay, I think this length looks cute on you. I like short hair anyways. If you want though… I’ll go with you to the hair salon so you can get it styled in a way you like. There is no need to cry angel.”

“I’m really glad no one recognized us yet” Jaemin exclaimed as you two walked around the theme park. “I’m so glad we could go on a date in public without being harassed. I really want to ride the ferris wheel with you. I know heights aren’t really fun, but I think it would be romantic for us to be together.”

“U-uh yeah…” you smiled nervously. You were terrified of heights, but since Jaemin seemed to want to go on, you tried to hide your fears. He pulled you into the line and held your hand tight. The wait felt like forever, as people were loaded into the cars one by one. Each group that got loaded in, meant you were closer to getting on and being lifted over 50 feet in the air. Only two more groups stood from you and the front. You gripped his hand tighter as tears started to escape from your tear ducts.

“H-hey what’s wrong?” he asked looking at you with concern.

“I’m sorry, I just can’t do this. I’m too scared!” you cried.

“It’s okay, you should have just told me! We can go on something else if you’d like. Is the tea cups okay? We can go on that if you prefer?”

Chenle

Ever since you moved to Korea a few years ago, your birthdays were often uneventful. Most of your friends still lived in your hometown, which meant “celebrating with friends” was just a 4 hour Skype conversation. Even though you had your first actual boyfriend, you expected that this year would be no exception. Chenle told you he had a schedule all day, and unfortunately would have to take you out another day.

“Hey y/n! Happy Birthday!” your best friend cheered into the phone.

“Ah thank you! I wish I could see your face. I miss you so much!”

Hi! Would you please share some of your thoughts about The Handmaid's Tale? I've been trying to read it for weeks now, yet I still find it hard go through each chapter. I really want to like it though. Thank you!

Hiya, sorry it has taken me a long time to answer this!

I don’t know where to start really because I’ve loved Atwood for so long. The Handmaid’s Tale is such a brilliant novel. I actually chose to write on it at A-Level and now I am glad to see that it is officially on the syllabus (nothing to do with me, obviously, just a nice coincidence).

It has been quite a long time since I read it but from what I remember, here are some themes / ideas to consider:

What is a ‘dystopian novel’ and why do they have such an enduring appeal? Is writing about the future a lot like writing about the past? [this article puts it fairly simplistically]

Is the narrator reliable? Can we trust everything that is recounted in the novel to be ‘true’? If not, how does Atwood deliberately create that sense through her writing?

What is ‘free will’ and does it really exist, or is it a construct? Even Commanders – who are above Handmaids in the societal hierarchy – seem to live limited lives. How does society take women’s freedom from them? If Offred could be ‘free’, what would that really mean? Was she free before being a Handmaid?

Generally, women have less freedom because they are perceived as a lower social status due to their sex and fertility. How is this a reflection of our society as it currently operates? If you’re not familiar with the ideas put forward by feminist movements, it might be worth reading some feminist theorists such as Lorde, Rowbotham, Adichie, or Wollstonecraft.

Maybe my followers can contribute some other things to discuss! Hope this helps a bit – I’m sorry you’re finding it a tough read. Sometimes it’s just not the right time in your life to enjoy or understand a text. If you really don’t like it, don’t force it – maybe you should try some other dystopia first, or some of her other work. Oryx and Crake is also a good novel (one of my favourites). Having said that some literature is deliberately difficult, but if you persevere it can be very rewarding.

p.s. I have not watched The Handmaid’s Tale yet but I heard that she approves, produces and has a cameo so I might actually watch it (I’m open to reviews)

(A/N: Yowza, the next part won’t be this long, I promise!! I just really loved writing this one, though this part probably contains the least amount of Jiyong thus far. As always, I hope you all enjoy it!!!)

“For the fifth time, yes, we’ll make sure you get a wig with short black hair.”

You were nearing the end of what turned out to be a surprisingly difficult rehearsal with iKon and were responding to all questions in between your panting. All along it had been extremely entertaining and your difficulty breathing mainly came from how often you’d burst out laughing at the way the 7 men attempted to be feminine. You should have accounted for the amount of effort it would take to get these boys to dance the way girl groups do.

“Short black hair will just work the best with my face. It’s my concept.” Junhoe was insistent, as per usual, that his good looks be maintained throughout the performance and the rest of you had a good laugh whenever it was brought back up.

“We don’t even know what wigs we’re getting yet; worry instead about not looking like such a caveman with your hip thrusts!” You passed B.I. an exhausted look that read “thank you,” as everyone laughed at the leader trying to keep his members focused on their femininity.

“All right, all right, we only have ten minutes left so let’s use it wisely, guys. Show me the opening formation one more time.” You instructed as the boys tiredly made their way to their positions and stood in a variety of hip accentuating poses. With laughter evident in your voice, you did your best to continue to give them constructive feedback.

“Ok. I like it, I’m liking it. I know you’re tired and just annoyed with how nitpicky I’m being but just make sure to smile a little when you’re up on stage! This should be fun!” They each immediately forced the biggest, fakest, smiles you’d ever seen, which had you on the ground laughing at how silly it looked with each of their poses.

“You guys are the best. Let’s just run through it all the way one more time and then I’ll let you go.” They each sighed in relief while you counted off the start of “Up & Down.” You watched them move around your studio, doing their best to be graceful, while you tried your best not to laugh through the entire song like you did the past four run-throughs. You found it even funnier that they were trying so hard to get each move right; every hair twirl and every hip shake hit with accuracy, down to the point of their toes.

Once they hit their last pose, you cheered exceptionally flamboyant and jumped up and down shouting “Great job girls!! Woo!”

“Yah! Y/N, are we done now? Can we go back to being men?” To no one’s surprise, Bobby was the least excited to act girly and he knew you were teasing them all because of it. It was actually really entertaining to hear them complain, because you knew they were all having fun; even Bobby.

“Yes, yes, you all get to leave me now. But only if you curtsy on the way out.”

They groaned in unison while you crossed your arms in response and stared them down. “And here I was missing you guys. Guess no one cares that this really will be the last time I work with you. ForEVER.”

“Yah! You don’t have to be so dramatic about it and make us feel bad!” Jinhwan exclaimed,

“You’re one to talk, ‘Jinny’.” Chanwoo got a laugh out of everyone but Jinhwan who shoved his shoulder in response.

“You know we’ll see you soon, Y/N! We can all go out for a group dinner once we have a break from touring.” You gave a smile and a bow to Donghyuk. You could always count on him to make the most genuinely thoughtful comments. “I can’t wait.” You replied.

You stood by the door, giving them each a hug after they curtsied, one by one, on the way out. Well, almost all of them.

Bobby, the last in line, stood in front of you with his arms crossed, mocking the look you gave them earlier. “If you think I’m giving you a curtsy you’re crazy.” He said in defiance. You chuckled, knowing he would say something like that. “I know. I know. You’re just too cool for curtsies. Whatever!”

His look of seriousness cracked into his trademark grin, as he pulled you in for a tight hug. “Well hey, we’re supposed to leave in a few days to continue the tour and I probably won’t be able to hang out until at least mid-July, so let’s do something tomorrow night!”

“Oh definitely! Just text me; we’ll figure something out.” You had found yourself hoping you’d get to hang out with Bobby before they left, so it made you happy when he was the first to suggest it. You finished saying goodbye and waved to him and the rest of the guys as they got into their van and drove away.

While you paced back through your studio, you caught a glimpse at your calendar above your front desk. Thinking back to where you might have been a year ago on this day, you found yourself actually smiling; because though you didn’t feel as happy, you knew that you would be soon. And you would be doing it all on your own.

The following afternoon, as you observed your advanced hip hop class, you were struck with inspiration. You remembered how you used to post videos of your classes back in the states that had garnered a lot of attention through YouTube, and soon found yourself breaking for a moment in search of your camera. It had been sitting in its carrying case in the trunk of your car for longer than you’d like to admit, but your dancers all beamed with excitement the moment you brought it inside.

You spent the last thirty minutes of the class taking clip after clip of different small groups performing the week’s choreography. Everyone hit each move with top precision and the strongest facial expressions you’d seen from them yet. They all badgered you to show the videos, but you denied them. “You’ll just have to catch yourselves on YouTube tomorrow! You shouldn’t need these videos to prove you guys did amazing today; I’ll see you all next week!” They groaned while you smiled in anticipation for all the positive feedback they had no idea they’d be receiving.

Since theirs was your only class of the day, you decided to lounge out in the front room of your studio and review everything you’d filmed. You fell backwards onto the one couch, leaving your legs to dangle over the arm, as you held your camera over your body and flipped through each piece of footage.

You recorded a lot more than you thought; most of it was definitely useful, but some of it ended up being deleted due to lack of focus or moments that the music got paused. You were in the middle of groaning at the sound of your own voice while you hit delete on the first video you’d taken that day; revealing the most recent video you’d recorded the last time you used that camera.

You nearly dropped the heavy piece of recording equipment right on your face when you saw the thumbnail. You’d know that living room anywhere.

Not bothering to even blink, you reached a shaking thumb to press the button to start the video; having zero recollection to its contents.

The camera panned across a black leather couch and down to a tiled floor as your bare feet came into view, walking forward. “Doo-doo-doooo-doodoo-doooo.” You were muttering a random, made-up tune to yourself while you paced through the living room. The lighting dimmed as it adjusted to the dark room you then walked into. You felt your hands get clammy as you continued watching, your feet still the center of the shot, as you approached the edge of a bed with dark colored sheets.

And there it was; that all too familiar bright orange head of hair, turned away from the camera in a deep slumber. You watched your hand come into view as you climbed onto the bed and turned the camera to get a better look at Jiyong’s face. Your breathing stilled as his makeup-clean face that you used to wake up to every morning came into focus.

You watched as your index finger made its way to his right cheek and poked it lightly. “Psssst…Jagi…Jagi…wake uuup.” You whispered as his eyebrows furrowed in response. He took a deep breath and let out a groan. “Nooo, let me sleep.”

“You’ve been sleeping all day though. I know it’s someone’s day off buuut I thought just maybe they’d want to spend some of it with me.” He opened his mouth, as if about to disagree, when his eyes opened to the camera in front of his face before he got out a word. “Aishh, why do you always watch me when I’m sleeping?” His voice, though clearly tired, was evident with annoyance. He reached a hand up from the blankets and wiped his face before running his fingers through his hair.

“Hey, I thought you thought it was cute… I’m sorry, jagiya.” You could tell by your voice that you were embarrassed by his unexpected reaction, while the camera dropped to the bed and focused on a corner of the room. The sound of sheets rustling filled the speakers of the camera before Jiyong’s voice was heard again in a serious tone. “Please turn that off.”

“Ok.” Your voice was small as the speakers became muffled by your hands gripping the camera once more until the video turned off; allowing you to release the breath you didn’t know you’d been holding. You remembered that day well; it was the last half of summer and Jiyong had just gotten back from being away on tour for three weeks and actually had a few days off.

You’d thought the two of you would do something together, as you’d been looking forward to seeing him again, but instead he slept. He was so exhausted, and you know that entirely justified him not spending the time with you; there was absolutely nothing wrong with it. This was just the start to a prolonged decline. If anything, this video was documentation of the beginning of the end of your relationship.

Your heart sank at the realization while you quickly turned your camera off and put it down before any tears made their way to the corners of your eyes.

He’s happy without me; I’m happy without him.

You repeated this thought to yourself several times before looking at the clock above your desk. Your stomach growled while you noticed it was nearing dinner time. You forced yourself to get off the couch and gather your things to head home as you reached for your phone.

Y/N: Hey, hey. Still want to hang tonight?

BB: Mmmm I guess

Y/N: Well, butthead, what do you want to do?

BB: Take it back, I was kidding! But I’m down for whatever. You hungry?

Y/N: Starving. Take-out at my place in 30?

BB: Down.

Surrounded by the empty boxes from enough takeout to feed a family of 4, Bobby and you sat back on your couch, rubbing your stomachs in content.

“Why did you make me eat all of that?” You whined, not even devoting the energy to moving your head to look at him when you said it.

“Take-out was YOUR idea.” He replied, also not willing to put any effort into moving.

“Mmm. Shut up and eat your fortune cookie.” You said while you reached into the nearest paper bag and threw the first cookie at him. You weren’t looking, but let out a chuckle when you heard the sound of the wrapper making contact with his chest and the fumbling of his hands trying to catch it.

With the sound of loud crunching filling the room without another word from him, you sprang your head up to look in his direction. He stopped chewing when he noticed you and started giggling; the cookie clearly on one side of his mouth, making his cheek poke out. “What?” he mumbled with his mouth full.

“Bobby, I know you didn’t just eat paper…” You reached for the other cookie while he widened his eyes mockingly and exclaimed “Yeah! Totally! I’m not that dumb, Y/N.”

“Where’s your fortune then, hmm?” You asked while you cracked your cookie open and waved the little piece of paper that was inside. He paused and looked down at his lap that was covered in blankets, Styrofoam boxes and plastic silverware; fumbling around trying to find it. About a minute later, you reached out and grabbed something off the collar of his sweatshirt and stuck his fortune to his forehead. “Found it.” He said triumphantly.

You rolled your eyes at him, and read yours out loud. “Things may seem difficult now, but it will all be worth it in the end.’ Huh, well that sounds relevant. I like it. What does yours say?”

Bobby looked down at his and smiled to himself before reading it out loud. “If you have an idea. Make it into reality; don’t let it go.” He simply nodded his head, looking pleased with his reading.

“Oh I like that one too. In fact, I have an idea. We should pull out Super Smash Bros and make a drinking game to go along with it.” You clapped your hands together, proud of your idea.

“I don’t know, Y/N. That sounds like a quick way to get…smashed.” He pulled the cheesiest grin while you threw a pillow at him and stood from the couch. “Aish. Shut up and come with me to pick up some drinks.”

Since you absolutely suck at most video games, it wasn’t long before you were drunk; especially after Bobby had the bright idea to make a rule that you have to drink every time your player unintentionally falls off the map. He knew all the right combos to use in fighting, but you managed to get him just as drunk with how often you threw items in his character’s face. That’s all you really knew to do, aside from hitting all the buttons on the controller and hoping for the best.

Before either of you knew it, 2am had arrived. Naturally, you’d both fallen over at some point in the game and continued to play while your head rested on Bobby’s knee and he partially laid over your back. Your faces hurt from how much laughing you’d been doing, coupled with the amount of booze in your systems.

“Holy shit, it’s getting late.” You declared while you both did your best to sit up.

“Yeah it is. I’ll wander out of here soon.” He said with a yawn, while you looked at him like he was crazy. There was no way you’d let him drive home like this; let alone walk the whole way at this hour.

“Ha, yeah, no you’re not. You can sleep here, I don’t mind at all.” You got up from the couch and stumbled over to your hall closet where you kept spare blankets and pillows, not allowing him to deny the invitation.

He helped you make a spot for himself on the couch, while you both gulped down some water to help clear your heads.

“Thank youuu, Y/N.” Bobby said as he pulled you in for a hug goodnight. “Anytime, punk.” You replied as you reached up on your tiptoes and ruffled his hair.

You wandered over to your bedroom and got ready for bed; throwing on an oversized shirt and a pair of boy shorts. You passed your camera bag on the ground as you went to lay down and stood still for a moment; finding yourself contemplating on looking at whatever other footage might be on that memory card.

Your slightly drunk mind was taking the wheel as you convinced yourself to kneel down and take the camera out. If that last video was the start of the bad memories, maybe there are a lot of good memories in here too.

As your mind flooded with what else could possibly be captured in that camera from your relationship with Jiyong, you heard a distinct rustling from the living room; interrupting your thought process. Without thinking, you quickly put the camera back in the bag and listened closer out your open bedroom door. You heard light groans of frustration and a lot of rustling of couch cushions, while you held in a laugh.

“Bobby.” You called, as the sounds immediately stopped now that he knew you could hear him.

“…yes?” He asked timidly, making you release your giggle. “Is that couch a little too small for you?” You didn’t even think about that; Bobby was nearly half a foot taller than you and even you had to curl up slightly when laying on that couch. “…kind of. I can just sleep on the floor though, it’s ok!”

“Bobby, do you want to just sleep in here with me?” You surprised yourself as you said those words out loud. He paused, feeling just as caught off guard by the question as you were. “…what? Like in your room on the floor?”

“No, dummy, like in my bed, with me. It’s more comfortable than that couch and it’s definitely better than the floor.”

“Are…are you sure?” Even though you were both still slightly drunk, he was hesitant to take you up on the offer. “Yes, I’m sure.” You laughed. “Now come on, I’m sleepy.”

You covered your mouth to keep from laughing too audibly when you heard him knock into the coffee table as he got up from the couch. He appeared in your doorway with a pillow and a bashful grin that he was clearly trying his best to fight off. “Hey.”

“Hey.” You laughed and said in a deep voice, mimicking him. He laughed a little too loud and made his way in as he accidentally kicked the bed frame. You couldn’t help but find his sudden shyness to be quite cute.

He walked slowly to the other side of the bed, not wanting to appear too eager. You pulled the blanket back and patted the area of the mattress beside you, while he obliged.

“You don’t have to sleep here if it makes you uncomfortable though, Bobby. I just figured it was fine since we typically end up cuddling when we drink together anyways.”

“No, no, I don’t have a problem with it! It’s just been a long time since I’ve shared a bed with someone for the night is all.” You could hear the sincerity in his voice.

You paused. “Me too, I understand where you’re coming from.” You turned towards him and propped your head up on your elbow as you got an idea. “Well, hey, let’s just talk a little more to make it easier, you know? I think we both deserve a good night’s sleep in a bed and not on that couch or my floor.” He chuckled and turned towards you, in agreement.

It’s a wonder how much more you’re able to learn about a person when you’re lying beside them in a bed, rather than anywhere else. You didn’t even have to go on a tangent, asking about where he went to middle school, whether he grew up with cable, or what his favorite fruits were; you could feel it. You felt the two of you knowing each other better just in the small conversation you shared in that moment. You both laughed as you yawned at the same time, having continued talking longer than expected. He reached over to your nightstand and turned off the lamp at your request; filling the room with darkness.

“Hey, uh, can we cuddle? Is that weird to ask right now?” You whispered after the two of you laid in silence for what felt like thirty minutes. The alcohol in your system had you craving skinship and closeness and knowing that Bobby was right there next to you was more than enough to keep you awake.

He laughed lightly at your question. “I mean, I don’t think it’s weird. Like you said, we usually end up doing so anyways.” You felt your cheeks redden at the sound of his voice whispering to you through the darkness. Despite the amount of liquid courage still in your body, you felt yourself become the nervous one, as you buried any and all thoughts clinging to the sound of Bobby’s voice.

Making the first move, you pushed yourself over to his side of the bed and wrapped your arm across his torso, while you laid your head on his chest. He wrapped one arm around you, holding you securely to him as he let out a contented sigh.

You felt both of your bodies completely relax in that moment, as silence engulfed the dark room. His toned body felt more like a cushion beneath you and your eyelids became significantly heavier. You smiled into his chest and allowed your eyes to close when you felt his other hand slowly move across your back, rubbing it soothingly.

“Goodnight, Bobby.” You whispered to him as you lifted your head, using your nose as a guide through the dark, and left a light kiss on his cheek before returning to lay on his chest.

You heard his breathing hitch, making you slightly regret allowing the alcohol in your system to have you make such a bold move, but he recovered quickly with a chuckle. “Goodnight, Y/N.” A smile was evident in his voice, as he drifted off to sleep. You were enjoying laying there more than you thought you would; wrapped in Bobby’s strong arms while the alcohol on your breath and his wafted together.

The feeling of déjà vu officially sank in as the sound of his heartbeat steadily lulled you to sleep.
