I have very mixed feelings on Call Me By Your Name

Just shoving this out of the way the age gap in this movie is literally my singular problem with it other than that it is legitimately a perfect movie and I adore it to no end.

This is my comfort movie, I watched it around 2 years ago when it was still on netflix and it brought me more joy than anything. Because truly, this movie is one of those where you just want to live in it. Every shot, every bit of this small Italian town feels so person and lived in, I actively want to spend my time in a place like it because it brings me so much joy. It's an escape, that one scene where Elio and Oliver are in the water and they're splashing each other, it's so comforting. Or when they're digging up old architecture and it just feels so personal and perfect. And the MUSIC oh my GOD. Mystery of Love is one of my favorite songs PERIOD.

And the way this movie really is just short little scenes with no real plot to it other than Oliver and Elio's growing relationship? I find that so fun and interesting, we're just watching the summer play out and it feels so nice and comforting. It reminds me of a trip I had where everything felt so perfect, so trapped in the moment and then you cry when it's over. And this movie is VERY good at making me cry, when the credits start, and Elio is sobbing about Oliver getting married, it just hits so painfully hard.

And in all honesty, I just love Elio as a character. He just feels like a kid just living through his summer, getting a crush on an older guy and living his life. It's so comforting the way he acts, and I love his character.

God I just really freaking hate Oliver. Like I think he's a good character and I enjoy him but god WHY DID YOU PURSUE THE 17 YEAR OLD THAT HAD A CLEAR INTEREST IN YOU AND THEN YOU JUST ADMIT TO MOLESTING HIM EVEN BEFORE HE HAD FEELINGS????? UGHHHHH

Idk, I think the idea of falling in love over a summer is so interesting, because you know it has to end eventually but you really hope it doesn't. And I understand Elio, I feel as though a lot of people end up falling for those who are older and more mature than them, but the thing is that Oliver lets it happen and IT MAKES ME SCREAMMMMMMMMMMM

Like UGH. Their age gap is why I'm worried to ever share my love for this movie. Because I mean Oliver is 24 and Elio is 17. And something something it's fiction BUT IT MATTERS TO ME. And the thing is that I can totally understand Elio's side of it but GAHHHH OLIVER WHYYYYY

Anyways I love CMBYN and I wish the age gap was different either that or Oliver didn't give into Elio because hahahahahah WHY but uh yeah. One of my favorite movies and i really wish it was still on netflix but to my knowledge they took it off
