…Eh, I’ll try to answer your question so it’s as spoiler free as possible. ;)

So, this story is basically three fics long, and each one has a very specific vibe to it.

ONE: Subaru is in hell and doesn’t know how to get out. Very angsty and it just seems to get worse and worse to the point of absolute absurdity. Also everyone feels like they’re straight out of Re:Forgotten or something lmao, WHAT is HAPPENING—

TWO: Context is suddenly given for why everyone is acting the way that they are. Pure crack. Benny Hill Theme on full blast. Everyone is rushing to keep Subaru out of harm’s way with all the grace of a bunch of college students trying to wrestle an oiled pig. Things keep going wrong and Subaru’s desperate attempts to be a problem(???) are really not helping.

THREE: Subaru has given up and everyone very suddenly realizes that They Fucked Up. Everyone is desperately hoping that he’ll go back to being a spoiled brat, please. He can be an actual delinquent this time if he wants, even, they’ll put up with it. Welcome it with open arms, even. Subaru gradually learns that this was an enormous fuck-up and no, these people don’t actually hate him, they’re just kinda dumb. The “it gets better” part is finally here. (At one point he starts being an absolute shit and Julius is so happy to see him getting a personality again that he instantly sucks all the fun out of it and then starts pleading with him to PLEASE go back to being a brat, he’s sorry, he’ll act annoyed this time, he PROMISES—) (This one’s so fluffy it might actually give me a toothache ngl)

(1) wonwoo's "why are you sorry? it's not your fault that you don't love me." is a paraphrased translation of a popular line from the filipino movie i'm drunk, i love you (2017):

a fuller translation would be something more like: "why do you keep apologizing? you've done nothing wrong. it's not your fault that you don't love me."

(3) seungcheol's 'love is a verb' is a dual reference: the john mayer song of the same name, and the NIKI lyric in her songs paths.

(4) i couldn't resist sliding in a filipino song into the recommended songs, because there's one line in sa ngalan ng pag-ibig that is impossible to translate effectively. just one of the nuances of language, it seems lol. the lyric goes "ikaw mula noon, ikaw hanggang ngayon."

the literal translation is "it was you in the past; it's still you, today." it's close to saying, "i loved you then; i still love you, now," but the english translation fails to truly encapsulate the rhyme and poeticism of the original. i just feel like it really, really encapsulates vernon's yearning throughout the years.

(6) the leslie jamison quote comes from my favorite essay of all time. it's one hell of a read, but it's arguably the best non-fiction piece i know.

i love the line so much that it's actually my college yearbook quote! it felt apt to integrate here, where vernon's whole conflict is attaining a 'better' self.

(7) one line/exchange that i scrapped was somewhere around the time vernon asks, "hope i'm not too late." i had something along the lines of y/n telling vernon that no, he was never too late and he had his own time/pace. but i got stuck on it and ditched it in favor of the answer to vernon's question not having changed throughout the years.

it's heavily implied that y/n says 'yes' to vernon's question, of course, but i also initially had an instagram story slide to end it with. photo of vernon and just a very simple 'yes', but it felt disingenuous (?) and inauthentic, so i opted for (surprise, surprise!) the open ending lmao. that's why the time skip only features eight panels instead of nine.

(or: this is the year vernon learns all the different ways you can miss a person.)

vernon spends his second year on dating apps. it makes him a bit sick to his stomach, really. he doesn't think he's doing it right. he matches with people, sure. even manages to bag a handful of dates. each one ends with him giving them some variation of 'i don't think this is going to work out', and when they inevitably ask why, he lies through his teeth. too busy to be in a serious relationship. too emotionally out of it to commit. anything but the truth. (or: this is the year vernon realizes that no one measures up to you.)

by the time his third year away rolls around, vernon is beginning to feel a bit pathetic. here he is, after all that time, and he's still haunted by the shadow of a relationship that didn't even come to the light. sometimes, that seems to be worse— saying goodbye and knowing the door is left open a crack. he distracts himself with literally everything else. he tries out improv. he finally opens up a letterboxd account. he signs up for marathons. (or: this is the year vernon runs, in more ways than one.)

there's less of an ache by the time that year four comes. vernon doesn't think of you as often as he used to. he's able to be with someone else without imagining you in their place. even as that relationship eventually ends, he's glad that it's because of reasons unrelated to you. he's finally gotten to a point where he can look at himself in the mirror and not think of all the ways he faltered or failed. despite everything, it's still him. (or: this is the year vernon accepts the version of himself in his reflection.)

five years. it takes five years before vernon can finally reach back out. not to everyone yet, no. he starts slow. mingyu gives him a whole load of shit for it. seungcheol asks a dozen questions. wonwoo understands. vernon is grateful for them, so much so that he finds himself watching the dead poets society on his plane ride home. it's all fun and games until the scene with robin williams, where the schoolboys are paying ode to him with cries of "o captain, my captain!" it's the very line that echoes in his head when he sees you some feet away from him during a chance encounter. suddenly, none of it matters. not the distance, not the blind dates, not the man that he's tried so hard to be. all he can think of— all he can see— is you. o captain, my captain. (or: this is the year vernon decides to be honest with himself.)

what do you think toshiro's version of laios would've been like if he was still with the group during the shapeshifter shenanigans

there have been a few speculations in the tag and among the fans and they are all very good SO i am going to take this opportunity to insert a bit of my shipping bias as i like in my interpretation LMAO agdsfgdfgv

i noted that in actuality shuro seems to have a very good grasp on laios' character??? this is most obvious in the manga later on but even seeing how he criticises laios in their fight... iirc nothing he says is actually untrue or wildly exaggerated, and while he does express frustration over something he feels like laios Should have control over (noticing his cues), he is also aware that laios isnt being malicious and that hes Just Like That. what i mean to say is that while i think his version of laios may seem more pushy and in-your-face, i dont think it will be overwhelmingly so. if its post-fight, i think the idea of laios (and marcille) being willing to do anything to get falin back made a big impression on him, as well as the idea that they need to eat and rest in order to succeed in their goals, so those aspects would be prominent in his version. he seems pretty observant, so i think for the most part the physical traits would line up, but i think there would be specific things that stand out to him that would appear strangely striking on his version of laios (like. idk something about his eye colour or the subtle contrast of his armour and chainmail. he seems to have a weird sense of aesthetics if extras are anything to go by lmao). if hed actually been paying attention all those times laios had gone on about what the hell ever, then it might be even MORE hard to tell apart his version since he would also have a good grasp on what laios should know. so either his version of laios is pretty difficult to pick out, OR despite the character being accurate his appearance is too. stylised lmao (exaggerated features or something) OR!! they just get him to pull out his monster gourmet guide thing and are able to tell from there. iirc everyone was surprised at its appearance so its possible toshiro had also never seen it before

IN MY IMAGINARY SHIPPING SCENARIO............ lets say that his laios isnt able to be picked out immediately and that the monster guide thing also doesnt immediately occur to anyone. what the real laios Specifically notices is how close this other laios keeps getting to shuro. and hes like. ??? why is he getting so close to him, theres no way i get that close to him??? but no one else seems to be picking up on it as weird, so hes having a small crisis like do i REALLY get that close to him???? and now that hes on the outside he notices shuro subtly leaning away and he feels both a wave of shame and..... protectiveness??? (JEALOUSY??????) and he immediately steps in and grabs him like Hey!!! cant you see hes uncomfortable???? weve been through this already!!! and like. ok i cant believe im doing this again but i need to separate this into different endings

a) the whump route: i dont think shuro ever envisioned Actually Telling laios about his frustrations outside of being basically cornered into it. has he ever spoken up against what was expected of him?? has he ever been confrontational???? i think part of what held him back from expressing his frustrations, along with the cultural norms, could be fear of what the reaction would be. if he had done the same in any other aspect of his life (his family, his inheritance), i think he would expect disappointment, disapproval, more proof that he doesnt add up to expectation. to be honest i dont think he Truly believes that laios is the type of person to react like this. but it was strong enough to prevent him from acting and i think would be projected onto his image of laios. maybe fake!laios says something dismissive like Well if it really bothered him hed say something right? what, he cant even stand up for himself? cmon, shuro, prove that you cant handle it just like everything else. and thats pretty much the fastest giveaway that it isnt really laios. of course this would be a HUGE tonal departure from what the actual episode/chapter was, so:

b) the dumbass route: both laioses break into fisticuffs, and, yes.... barking. and so they speedrun the entire encounter as the shapeshifters true form appears and, after laios points out that thinking too hard about others versions of you can tear apart groups and peace of mind, they pointedly do not speak of it again. they think about it though. a LOT

c) the normal route: both laioses argue normal like and the group ends up being able to tell them apart because the fake laios goes on a little too long about how theyre all here for falin and everyones like ok its not like he DOESNT love his sister but.......... the rest of the scenario probably goes like canon, though then i would want to see what everyone Else thought of shuro

I remember, a while back, you mentioned that you wanted to write for The House That Jack Built. I was wondering if you’re still interested in writing about the film, and, if so, what kind of rules would you set to ensure your comfort?

Hi! This is a brilliant question. Yes, I'm still interested in writing for him! I'm actually finishing up my parts at the moment, it's rather lengthy. I typically write in globs rather than something concise, like beginning to end. I'll get motivation for a certain section, write that, and then write in the connecting pieces later - so, I'm currently wrapping up some of the connecting pieces.

I usually don't have an issue writing tougher things, disturbing content, etc. There are certain things I won't write, like children in a NSFW manner or bodily fluids outside of normal occurrences during intimacy. I do write for rougher scenarios, and I've never minded that. I'm able to disconnect myself a fair bit from my writing, and I'm using that quite a bit for this piece. It's darker than what I've written before. I think what's keeping me from finishing it up quicker is my worries on how others will see it, y'know?

That and dub-con is a bit of a fine line, but I take plenty of breaks with my writing. I don't think I'd ever write something that jeopardized my mental health. Although, I do love branching out, and I've enjoyed writing that piece - mainly because it's pushed me past my comfort zone.

It's worth it to branch out of your comfort zone, but everyone has limits to what they'll write - and that's okay! You have to have boundaries, just have to stick to them. And don't beat yourself up if you don't feel comfortable writing something, or if you lose motivation. I have pieces that I haven't touched in months, but I know it'll come back to me. That's usually why I tell people it'll take me a while to get to requests, but I always will get to them. It might take a few weeks, but they'll get done LMAO.

(I will say though, the piece I'm writing concerning that movie is dub-con, contains bodily harm, and will be tagged appropriately. Just a forewarning for those who are looking forward to that piece. And I'll definitely be open to writing for him again, if anyone ever requests more or the inspiration comes to me!)

Hi I have a question for homeschooled Catholics <:) what was your relationship to/opinion of the secular world like growing up? This is something that I sometimes feel weird and awkward about because on one hand I am a convert who grew up exposed to way way too much bad stuff, and on the other I occasionally meet cradle Catholics who were clearly extremely sheltered and seem to be very sensitive/easily scandalized, to the point where it seems to cripple how they relate and engage with people outside the faith. I really don't want my kids to grow up anywhere close to how I grew up but I don't think it'd be healthy for them to think "mommy and daddy grew up as degenerates in lawless wastelands outside our safe and holy bubble" either so I'm curious about what the middle ground to this is like since I have no concept of it.

I like to think that I grew up in a pretty healthy middle ground area in between sheltered and overrun with secularity. I read secular books and watched secular movies. I listened to secular music. I played with secular kids in the Chick-Fil-A play place. On the flip side I was a serious catholic, or as much of a serious catholic as a kid could be. So not all of my childhood was centered around Christian things (in that way), but I definitely didn’t learn about most of the horrors of the world until later. My parents swore. I was aware that there was a difference between being a catholic in the world and being a worldly catholic, even if I didn’t totally get it as a kid.

In short, I was out in the world in a controlled way, and I think that was a good thing. My parents taught me what was right and what was wrong and I applied that to everything I encountered. Both my parents were reverts; they never really talked about the details of that and I never asked. My dad did always say that he was always unhappy as an atheist though. The middle ground depends a lot on experiencing some of the world and recognizing what’s good and what’s bad.

you've actually just raised a really interesting point and perspective! ink is a very difficult character to write due to his unpredictability, you've managed to make sure that we can never guess what he's going to do next, say next, or have reactions to! your ability to write him makes me appreciate him even more, hence why he's usually the focus of things i ask! now it makes me wonder, how would you explain his feelings toward the 'alouettes'? some twisted form of love? an obsession to acquire something that is continually ripped away? what does he want from the reader, exactly? in his head, how would they ideally act? has it changed compared to when he wasn't corrupted? i guess that would be describing his descent into insanity, in a way! A bit of a complicated question, one that I had to think about for a while.

So I will say this;

He's not aware of it, but Ink is addicted to the cycle of losing and finding his soulmate, which is a big reason for the theme of the game of tag.

Ink is prone to boredom, so even though he desperately desires his soulmate, he will crave the chase, which is one reason why he doesn’t bat an eye when Swap starts bringing ‘replacements’. He’s desperate to keep the game going, even if it’s not with his soulmate; he’s addicted to physical pleasure, addicted to the thrill of chasing something he can never keep.

He no longer has expectations from Reader, because every time they're reborn, they're different. They look different, act different, live different lives. All they have in common is the misfortune to be tied to Ink and Dream (and Swap.)

Ultimately, the one thing Ink wants is to keep experiencing the euphoria of being reunited with his soulmate, to feel the rush of that connection and intimacy, and to feel like he's 'won' the game. Unfortunately, that's no longer going to be entirely possible, because his connection has become so tainted from the violence he's inflicted on Reader, both knowing and unknowingly. The weaker the connection grows, the more desperate and violent Ink becomes.

Hey there, thank you for the ask!! Random questions are so fun and I'd love to have a better answer for you than this but unfortunately my use of Youtube is primarily streaming music or checking for misc Owen related uploads 😅

Never seen an influencer in my life lol and don't actually subscribe to any channels either but there are a couple I do check out from time to time!

Free time's at a minimum and I don't get around to playing video games like I used to so NicoB's Let's Play content has always been really fun to watch, his Danganronpa playthroughs gave me life years ago and while I haven't checked in for a while I was just about to start his Master Detective Archives: Rain Code run even though I own the game lol. Plot sounded fantastic but minutes in the mascot character gave me a headache so his voiceovers should be a big improvement 😊

The other is by a Thai backpacker named Sunny who has a really awesome travel channel updating several times a week. His content is super genuine with regards to the good and bad of every experience (plus no product sponsorships or placements), English subs are always available, and overall he's just a chill, kind person with a lot of respect and interest for the local culture so it's easy to follow his travels and learn a lot too!

Which is why if they decide to be mean and bully you, they know to not touch you and make you beg. Keigo is great at teasing and Touya loves to be mean so combined forces together are a guarantee to bring you to tears. But they make promises to fulfill that make it all worth it.

It can be frustrating but they’re always right that the reward is worth it. To go through a little bit of pain to reach that peak of pleasure, to keep you suspended in heaven as long as they can, it all circles back to the small little gestures of affection. I couldn’t handle Donna QwQ I couldn’t match her energy it’s very sad :( I feel like I would do the exact opposite of what the Doctor did for her in terms of bringing out her most amazing qualities. And I do really try to highlight and praise the qualities of people in my life!! I just don’t know if I could help her reach her full potential. Which sounds like one of those weird therapy-talk approaches to relationships but unfortunately sometimes when you really admire someone you actually do start thinking about things like “am I supporting her journey effectively” and all that. But this is just a date right so it can just be a casual thing. I feel like Donna is someone with whom I could straight up be like Hey so I was never socialized properly and your last relationship ended comically terribly so do you want to like try practicing dating with each other? I think it could be fun! And then eventually she could move on to find happiness with Mr. Temple :)

BJ Hunnicutt is the human equivalent of Disneyland. Everybody in the entire nation is absolutely obsessively feral over it it’s sooo beautiful it’s sooo fun you just HAVE to experience it it’s a quintessential expression of the American dream blah blah blah. But I will never attend this overpriced (constantly borrowing money) and overcrowded (too much competition from the rest of Mashblr) theme park. I do not care for its fastpass system (willingness to cheat on his partner) or its uninspiring coaster design (anger issues), and I am further offended to hear of the constant introduction of cost-cutting measures that harm visitor experience (growth of mustache). Not even the prospect of purchasing a fully functioning Cogsworth clock (chance to join the Punnihawk polycule) is enough to tempt me. It’s not happening. I am going to Dollywood (Maxwell Klinger).

On an unrelated note, Charles sure seemed to get super into baseball in War For All Seasons, huh? :) And we know he cares a lot about his clothes, as we see him hiring a personal tailor at least once! :) And he was surprisingly eager to get to share in Max’s hotdog delivery in The Grim Reaper, too! :) So many random fun facts in this world \^w^/

some longer spoliers under the cut (subject to change bc i haven't written this out yet)

the party fic (which is what i usually call it) is told from regulus's perspective and he is a CHRONICALLY unreliable narrator. he starts the story by messing around with james in hopes that it'll piss sirius off and just generally create drama but this kind of blows up in his face when he starts falling for james. at that point regulus becomes very insecure about james and sirius' relationship and about his belief that james is only with him as a substitute for sirius (<- guy who literally dressed up and acted like sirius to fuck with james). but JAMES doesn't really give a whole lot of indication that this is the case and if you viewed it from an outsider perspective it would seem like james is pretty much organically falling in love with regulus. so he has a type! so what!

but yeah james does at one point tell regulus that he loves him and regulus doesn't quite know how to take it. it's never really confirmed whether james IS in love with sirius or if regulus just thinks so (sirius denies it but like. obviously he does) but regardless sirius and james have a very close very profound relationship.

i wanted to show that trusting that someone loves you isn't an easy thing and can feel pretty impossible. there aren't a lot of situations in which the person you're in love with can Prove that they're being honest when they claim to love you (it's also not realistic to ask that they stop being as close to the Other people that they love) .... you just have to trust them. does regulus trust james? well. in a way

so the way i intend for the story to end is on that tightrope of "does james love regulus? does he love sirius? does the distinction matter?" there's definitely a lot of indication that he has very very deep feelings for sirius but there's a lot of indication that he has very very deep feelings for regulus too! it's james! he has a lot of deep feelings!
