Ja’marr seems more like himself in the interview today and it makes me happy ☺️
agreed! it wasn't post-win happy ja'marr, but it was a focused upbeat ja'marr and it was nice seeing that 🥲
#i also liked that he said he spoke to the WR room and told them it was time to step up#like i bet he did after everyone's performance on sunday (except his of course)#ja'marr's getting a preview of what next year is gonna look like without tee and i don't think he likes it so far!#let's hope that they step up! i still believe in yoshi as a solid 3#but if we're looking for a 2 on the roster - it's gotta be jermaine#and ja'marr seems to believe in him more than anyone else lol#sorry i got off topic but yes it was a lovely little interview#now we need a post-chiefs win interview. can you imagine?

pairing: lewis hamilton x femalereader
summary: lewis gives you secretly his number. you're hesitant to call him at first, but when you do, things get a little much more interesting.
warnings: sexual activities, cursing words
(a/n): this is the last part! here's part one and part two.
YOU CHUCKLED AS Lewis excused himself to bring some more wine for the two of you.
You got more comfortable on the couch and fixed the silk material of your clothing.
When he came back, he filled your glass and then his.
"What do you do for a living?" He asked before taking his seat next to you once again.
"I'm a journalist." You answered, taking a small sip from the delicious liquid. "A sports journalist."
Lewis' eyes narrowed. "Formula one?"
"Nope," you said. "Basketball."
You noticed that he rolled his eyes. "Pity."
"What? You wanted me interviewing you, sir Lewis Hamilton?"
You caught a glimpse of something in his eyes as he smiled, bitting his lips before talking. "Maybe," he said, drinking from his wine and looking vacantly somewhere behind you. "That'd be very... very torturing." He said, his voice almost barely above a whisper.
"What was that?!" You laughed, your hands flying in the air. "What was that?!" You repeated again.
"Nothing." He said, smiling widely.
You studied his look. "Are you flirting with me?"
"Trying to." He answered, and you noticed that his hands were rested on the couch, just behind the area of your neck and head. "Does it work?" He looked up at you as he took another sip.
You bit your lips and felt that you were inevitably blushing. Looking at your nervous hands, circling the glass, you noticed his lap and the tattoos on the flesh of it.
It was very... very rideable.
"Maybe," you said, then a thought kicked in. "You promised you'd tell me why I was the chosen one at the race. I'm all ears."
Lewis cleared his throat. "You really want me to tell you?"
"If it doesn't involve some kind of a bet, yes, please,"
"A bet?" His nose wrinkled in something that looked like disguist. "Fuck, I'm not that kind of man."
"Tell me, Lewis." Your mind was in a haze, your thoughts blurred by his pretty eyes, so your hand found the soft flesh of his upper arm.
His eyes detected your hand for a brief moment and then smiled.
Lewis discreetly moved his white shirt lower on his body. Maybe to fix it in order not to look wrinkled or... to hide something, maybe?
"I just..." he started. "I saw you. You didn't even look at me at first."
"Yeah, because I was trying to find my best friend who was hooking up with a McLaren mechanic." You explained, and Lewis expression changed into pure curiosity.
"Okay, I presume I don't need to know more about that," he chuckled. "I just--I just genuinely thought to myself for a brief moment that you were the most beautiful woman I'd ever seen."
Your knees weakened, and thank God, you were seated.
"I love it when you're blushing." He grinned and wouldn't take his eyes off your hot face. "It just makes the color of your eyes stand out more."
Silence.
You tried to change the topic. "You never signed my hat, by the way." You said.
"Do you want me to bring a pen? I can sign your hand if you want."
You smiled. "Yeah, whatever."
Lewis left and came back with a pen and a white shirt in his hands. He passed the shirt to you, but you didn't take it at first.
"What's that?" You wondered.
"A pumpkin." He said sarcastically and looked down at you. "What does it look like, love?"
"Oh, no, no." You shook your head negatively. "You're not gifting me one of your shirts."
He laughed and tossed the white material to you. "Why not? It's officially been worn by me."
"And?"
Lewis thought for a brief moment. "You can wear it at home and think about me." His eyes lit up.
"I--I can't accept it, I'm sorry." You tried to give it back to him but he grabbed your wrist.
"Put it on."
"What?" Your eyes narrowed.
He looked you with that intense, dark gaze. "Put it on." He repeated, comanding.
"Why?"
He smiled. "So I can sign it."
You knew where this was going, but you wanted to tease him a little.
"You can sign it unworn as well, you know."
"Yeah, but the shiet wouldn't be stretched enough, and the signature would come out bad-looking." Lewis insisted and passed the shirt to you.
You finally grabbed it. "Fine."
Shoving your hair to one side, you carefully pushed the material around your head and then let it wrap around your curves, covering the pink dress underneath.
You immediately got knocked out by a faniliar cologne. Gosh, this aroma would hunt you forever.
"Looks perfect on you." Lewis said and opened a black marker.
You noticed him biting his lip.
He.
Bit.
His.
Fucking.
Lip.
"Where do you want me to sign it exactly?" He asked, looking at you.
"I don't know." You replied, scanning the shirt for any empty space. "Maybe somewhere free of stamps and letters."
"Hmm..." He looked at your shirt, leaning forward. His eyes were practically on your tits.
"Here," you suggested, signaling to a spot on your chest, near your heart.
Lewis shallowed and looked up to face you. "Are you sure?"
"About what?"
His voice was soft. "Having my hands on you."
You smiled.
That man was literally perfection itself. "No problem. Go on."
He breathed in and then out. Then, his left hand found the area of your shoulder and grabbed it gently for resistance.
You stopped looking at him and knew he had started making the signature when a sharp thing touched your covered flesh.
"Is this okay?" Lewis' voice sounded a few seconds later. "Does it hurt?"
"Jesus, Lewis, it's just a damn marker!" You laughed, but he didn't seem to enjoy your comment.
He was done with the signature, you could tell. He was now writing something on your shirt. Even if you did want to read it, you couldn't. It was upsides down, and Lewis was also covering it up with his free hand as if it were a test and you were about to cheat.
His expressionless beautiful features didn't betray much of his thoughts.
You breathed and hoped that the brave side in you would kick in soon.
"What are you thinking of?" You blurted out before even fully considering what you were about to mouth.
Lewis clicked the marker shut and looked at you. "Nothing."
"Something must have been in your mind whole you were signing the shirt." You explained. "Tell me." You insisted with puppy eyes. "Please?"
He shallowed. Hard. "You want me to tell you the naked truth?"
"What are you scared of?" You eyes narrowed, and you grabbed your phone, opening the camera and reading what was now written on your freshly owned shirt.
His signature.
A heart and...
"With much love, Lewis."
Lewis' lips formed a thin line, and he scratched his almost nonexistent beard. "I'm scared of what might happen after this."
You chuckled, pushing the white clothing off you with a slow movement. "Just tell me, Lewis."
A fee moment of silence passed with Lewis studying you and you fixing your messy hair and dress.
"Honestly, I--" he started.
"Just tell me already!"
"You want me to tell you?" His voice rised dangerously.
"Yes!"
"No, you don't."
"Yes, I do!"
"No, you fucking don't, love." He insisted.
"I'm telling you I d--"
Your words were interrupted by his lips crushing hard with yours. Your tongues fought in a messy but also loud battle, and before you knew it, you were on top of him on the couch, your hands around his neck. His his left one was rested on your back, caressing the flesh there before cupping your eyes and giving it a squeeze, while the other was bringing you closer by touching your cheek.
"Lewis, I--" You breathed, trying to create some space between your bodies and faces.
He wouldn't let you go.
"I was thinking about how much I'd like to fuck you in that shirt."
His kiss had left you breathless, but his statement had left you something that wasn't currently in an official dictionary. Something that had just been added to your own vocabulary.
Wetful.
Gosh, is that even a word?
His lap was a great seat, you thought.
Lewis must have sensed your nervousness. "Sorry, I shouldn't have said th--"
"Lewis, grab me the shirt." You commanded, and his dark brown eyes found yours.
He did as he was told.
"Put it on me."
He smirked and did as he was told once again.
You were soaked underneath your underwear, you could tell. He could probably feel it on his lap too.
"Wanna know what I am thinking now?" You asked, breathless as his lips touched your neck and kept teasing and teasing.
He knew when to kiss you, where to kiss you, when to touch you, where to touch you...
This man could make any woman happy.
"Tell me."
"Fuck me in this shirt." You fixed the clothing to cover the area of your thighs. It was large enough to become a dress.
His big hands found your waist and rested there. Then his one hand found your ass and he squeezed it as if he was the owner of it.
"Done." Lewis said.
"Okay, but it won't be pretty." You stopped him just when he started kissing you again. "It might end up having white spots on it after you're done with me."
His fingers touched your lips, and you took the chance to playfully dig your teeth gently on one of them.
"Oh, love... I can give you a hundred of those, and they'd still wouldn't be enough with all those things I'm thinking about doing with you." Lewis smirked, and you took his two fingers in your mouth, savoring the taste of it as if it were a colorful lollipop. "Besides, I assure you that I don't want it to be pretty. I want it to be rough."
His lips collapsed with yours, and you teased, leaning away one last time. "Okay, but do me a favor."
"Anything for you, baby."
You smiled softly. "Keep calling me your love."

Re:vale - 2D☆STAR Vol.5 interview
Please note that I am not a professional translator and I'm only doing this to share the side materials to those who cannot access them, if you notice any mistakes please let me know nicely. Enjoy!
This magazine has been released in November 2016 aka before part 3!
Interviewer: Thank you so much for your hard work with the shooting and outfit change! Pleased to work with you for this interview.
Interviewer: It's been a little while, but congratulations on the success of your 5th anniversary live performance at the Zero Arena inaugural event!
Momo: Thank you very much!
Yuki: Thank you.
Interviewer: Your live concert was very exciting. Could you please share your honest thoughts?
Yuki: It was our honor as Re:vale to be chosen to perform in such a special place like Zero Arena.
Yuki: I'm grateful to all the staff who worked hard to make the show a success, to TRIGGER and IDOLiSH7 for their support and their performances, and to all the fans who came to see us.
Yuki: I’m sincerely glad that Momo and I worked so hard together.
Yuki: Right, Momo?
Momo: Yeah!
Momo: I'm really grateful too! I want to thank each and every one of them as loudly as I can!
Yuki: We’re also glad we were able to cover a Zero song as planned.
Momo: And the exclusive one-night shuffle units with TRIGGER and IDOLiSH7 were super exciting too!
Interviewer: Speaking of TRIGGER and IDOLiSH7, they did perform a medley of Re:vale songs, how did you decide on that?
Momo: Actually they didn’t inform us about that, it was a complete surprise!
Yuki: It sure was.
Yuki: We were as surprised as the audience, if not more.
Momo: I almost cried even though we were about to perform!
Yuki: You mean you were actually crying.
Momo: Come on, Yuki, don't reveal Momo-chan's secrets so casually!
Yuki: Fufu. My bad.
Interviewer: I see. Thank you for sharing that precious memory with us!
Interviewer: Allow me to change the topic, could you share your thoughts on this cover photoshoot?
Momo: The shoot was so much fun! There was Re:vale spray-painted on the set which was very exciting!
Yuki: It was. The letters weren't very visible in the end because we stood in front of them, but it was nice to have a set specifically dedicated to us.
Momo: And the outfits exuded our adult charms thanks to the casual jackets and hats, don’t you think!?
Momo: Right, Yuki?
Yuki: Fufu. For me at least. Momo didn't give off much of an adult vibe.
Momo: Huh!? That's not true! I was oozing with charm, right!?
Interviewer: Yes! You both looked wonderful.
Interviewer: The theme of this issue is "Secret Talk with Close Friends", so please tell us about a moment where you felt grateful for having a partner.
Yuki: I'm not good at socializing or livening up the mood, so Momo's ability to make everyone around him happy helps me out a lot.
Momo: I'm happy, but you say that all the time~ Tell me something new!
Yuki: Then show us your example, Momo.
Momo: For me, it's Yuki's cooking!
Momo: I'm really happy that he makes dishes with meat just for me since he doesn’t even eat it! I can really feel your love!
Yuki: Hmm, I see what you mean.
Yuki: Then, during our indie days when Momo and I were still living together in poverty, Momo never got mad at me even when I was getting fired from my part time jobs. I’d love to thank you for that.
Yuki: Thank you.
Momo: You went back in time out of nowhere!?
Yuki: It's about how grateful I am to you ever since we started working together.
Momo: Here it is! Yuki's handsome comment!
Momo: You're in such high spirits today, you’re making my heart flutter!
Yuki: Fufu. Sorry for always being so handsome.
Interviewer: Since we’re already at it, is there anything you'd like to tell your partner?
Momo: Yuki, there's still a confession you haven’t told me yet, right!?
Yuki: Why does it have to be a confession?
Momo: Because we're on the cover, so it's a great opportunity!
Momo: Please give me a warm confession that will convey our relationship to those who don’t know about Re:vale!
Yuki: Wait. Don't ask me to do things outside my expertise out of nowhere.
Momo: No way... I've always trusted you, Yuki... Was I just a game to you...!?
Yuki: No, not in the slightest.
Momo: If you don't share that special confession, Momo-chan might not recover...
Yuki: Ahh, are we doing this?
Momo: Momo-chan might not recover...
Yuki: Alright...
Yuki: "Until the end of the world, you’re the one and only partner for me in the universe." …*chuckles*
Momo: Yuki, you’ll ruin everything if you laugh at the end!
Yuki: I tried my best, so cut me some slack.
Interviewer: Thank you for the passionate messages!
Momo: Actually, TRIGGER’s Gaku came up with this line for me.
Yuki: The Number One most desired Man is also handsome on the inside, isn’t he?
Momo: I respect him for being able to churn out a dramatic line like that without any shame, even though he’s our junior!
Yuki: That’s right. No matter how many times I say it, it doesn't sound as manly as when he does.
Momo: You'll sound good if you don't laugh halfway through, Yuki!
Interviewer: Now onto the next question. Where do you see Re:vale in 10 years?
Yuki: I'll be 36, Momo will be 35, and it'll be Re:vale's 15th anniversary in ten years.
Momo: I'll work hard so that Yuki doesn't replace me with a younger guy!
Yuki: Hey, don’t say something that might cause misunderstandings.
Momo: Because I'm working on anti-aging!
Yuki: You’ll still be my partner even ten years from now, right? I’m looking forward to working with you more, Momo.
Momo: Yeah! Looking forward to it too, Yuki!
Momo: If I can still be with you and Re:vale in ten years then that's enough to make me happy!
Yuki: Thank you, Momo. I’ll be happy too.
Momo: I’m gonna be a bit greedy, but I’ll also be super happy if all our fans continue supporting us in ten years like they do now!
Yuki: Fufu. Indeed.
Interviewer: Lastly, please share a message for your fans who continue to support you.
Momo: I hope everyone enjoys the cover issue featuring Re:vale.
Momo: We were able to be on the cover of the magazine and succeed in the inaugural performance thanks to everyone's support! Thank you!
Momo: You have plenty of choices with so many charming idols featured in the magazine, including TRIGGER and IDOLiSH7, but please continue to support Re:vale!
Yuki: We were able to achieve all of this, from the magazine cover to the inaugural performance, all thanks to our fans who believed in Momo and I and kept supporting us.
Yuki: We will continue to do our best to keep offering the best Re:vale, so please continue supporting us.
The End

Interview With The Vampire (M) (TW) - Giselle
“Ready?” She asks, her voice low and sultry. The type that would send shivers down your spine and goosebumps throughout your body. You turn and look at her, her ghostly white skin, her lips stained crimson. Swirling her wine glass, filled with her favorite blood, fresh as it can be.
“Yes, Lady Uchinaga,” You sit across from her, she watches intently as the blood swirls. The slight smirk on her face is attractive yet unnerving. Her glossy black nails shine under the low light she demanded there be, brightness was something she never liked.
“Oh please, I told you before just call me Giselle or Aeri. No need for formalities, I lived long enough, those are just a mere bother.”
“Right… Giselle, thank you for agreeing to this interview,” You thank her feeling her eyes crawl over you. The feeling of unease, you know, will never leave you for the duration of this talk. Placing the audio recorder on the table, her eyes follow your every movement.
“Your welcome, it’s not like I had anything better to do. Especially nothing special enough to turn down an interview with such a good looking man.”
“Thanks for the compliment, let’s get right into it,” You smile slightly which she reciprocates, “When were you born?”
“I was born in 1683, during what most of your historians call the Edo period,” She sips from her glass before placing it on the table with such grace only seen from Royal families.
“What can you tell me about your family?”
“My family were well off, my father, the head of the Uchinaga clan. My mother, your run of the mill dancer in the taverns in and around Tokyo. Being a daughter let alone being the only child had its perks.”
“What were these perks?”
“Everyone being at your beck and call, never having to share anything. Only thing I had to share was my father’s attention as the head of the Uchinaga clan, he had duty to the shogunate. One that not even his family came first.”
“So I’m guessing your father was mostly absent? What was that like during that time period?”
“It’s quite alright, my mother was indeed ample support that I would’ve needed as a little lamb. The guards were adequate people to converse with as I got older. Although my father was vermin, detestable truly.”
“What happened to make you see him as such?” You take a slight notice in her tone, with the topic of her father quickly making itself a no go zone.
“I killed him,” She downs her glass of blood, “What else is there?”
“When did you turn into a vampire?” Despite wanting to know why she killed her father, you thought it to be a better course to avoid such a topic. The tint of red in her eyes works wonders as a deterrent.
“In 1705, a rather unfortunate circumstance made me what I am today,” She licks her lips, gathering the crimson liquid still present, a peek at her fangs make you gulp. The striking white burned into your skull, “Don’t stare too much, you might make me blush.”
You snap out of it as she chuckles, “What was that circumstance?”
Her eyes got sharp,”I don’t dwell on it so I wish that you would respect it.”
“Yes, of course,” You flip through your questions, “What have you done to pass the centuries?”
“Many things, all of which only provided me with slight enjoyment before the disappointment. Piano, violin, opera, even was a whore for a time.”
“Why a whore of all things?”
“Easy prey, men that only think with their dicks are the easiest of prey, them and women hoping for the secrets of eternal beauty.”
“Was there ever a lover?” You ask as you watch her eyes soften, only teary eyed. You knew immediately that this may be a more sensitive subject than her father.
“There was,” She pauses a bit, grabbing a blood bag filling her glass, “He was a farmhand on my family estate. Truly a pure soul, innocent to a fault. He taught me that love can come in many forms. He was my first for many, until he was killed.. By my father.”
“I see…Sorry for bringing up a sensitive topic,” You sadly smile at her, despite the centuries she has lived, she’s still a human at heart.
“It’s fine, in fact you remind me of him. You have his same eyes, the eyes seeking the answers to the infinite amount of questions they contain within.”
“By the way you speak of him, I’m honored,” She smiles at your response, the tense atmosphere nearly gone.
“I’m glad,” She gulps down the blood, leaving her glass empty once again only to fill it quickly, “Once I got turned into a vampire, my father saw me as a monster. Locking me away in my room, yet boarding the windows so I didn’t turn to ash. At that time, I didn’t know who the real monster was. Luckily, Tatsuya snuck to me every night, he didn’t care if I was a vampire or not. I was still his Aeri, he gave me his blood to slake my thirst. I still remember the taste of it, the metallic taste, mixed with his emotions, truly a delicacy.”
“Tatsuya was your lover I’m guessing?”
“He was, despite everything good I can say about him, he was a simpleton. He wasn’t careful with his movements and one day my father caught him and forced me to watch as he tortured him for visiting a monster.”
“I’m guessing this is why your father is vermin in your eyes?”
“He is more than vermin, that foul being didn’t have more right than me to be called human, I snapped and killed my father,” She pauses and stares at you as if she’s gauging your reaction, “And everyone else in the Uchinaga Clan.”
“Even your mother?” You ask calmly, ignoring your racing heart.
“She was the least enjoyable kill, I truly loved my mother and everything she did for me yet she stood her ground with that filth. I pleaded with her to just leave and never look back at the burning estate.”
“What did she say? Aeri.”
Her eyes flicker in and out of deep emotion hearing her name roll off your tongue, “She told me that no monster would deter her from fighting to protect her house, even if the monster wears her daughter’s face.”
“I’m sorry Aeri, I truly am that your family turned their back on you.”
“It was to be expected, After all they were trying to marry me off to gain more power within the Shogunate inner circle.”
“I see,” You pause, looking down at the recorder, an hour has passed since the start, “Can you tell me about any other vampires that you have met over the years?”
“All of them are the peak of beauty, at least were. Some are dead now, the latest death being that of a beautiful tall woman at the hands of a father hell bent on finding his daughter. I wonder how I would’ve turned out if my father was like that. One you may know is Karina, that witch always craved attention.”
“Karina, the pop star is a vampire?” You tilt your head, absentmindedly giving her a view of your veiny neck.
“Yes, I turned her myself. She was also an attention whore, but in the bedroom and on the streets,” her eyes watch your neck, “I must say though, Y/n, your neck looks absolutely delectable.”
You instantly cover up your neck only adding to her laughter, “You can’t have any of my blood.”
She stands, strutting her way to you, her dress flowing behind her as she straddles you with ease, “Are you so sure about that darling~?” her voice ever present sultriness turned up 10 fold, “I smell your fear, your excitement.”
You button your collar, revealing your cross, blessed by the Vatican, “Back off Aeri.”
“How cute~” She smiles, gripping the cross, ignoring the burning sensation on her palm, tearing it from the chain. Her hands glide down your chest, unbuttoning your shirt as she gets lower and lower, “Are you going to be a good boy for me?”
You nod, hoping whatever she does, it’s over quickly, “What do you want from me?”
“Your blood obviously, and the bulge in your pants that’s been throbbing against me as soon as I straddle you,” That damn smirk evident on her, that one that is unnerving, “You love the danger don’t you? The danger of know that I could tear your throat out before you even notice,”
You shake your head, as you continue to cover your neck, “I don’t like the danger, I would rather live.”
“No need to lie~” She whispers in your ear as she takes in your scent. Her slender hands move yours without much resistance. Her fangs grazed your neck softly, making you jump a little, “Someone is antsy~”
“Get off of me, I don’t want this,” You demand of her, only to feel her sink into your neck. Your breath hitches, your eyes roll back as you listen to her take gulp after gulp. She pulls back, licking the crimson from her lips.
“Delicious,” She smiles, her teeth stained with your blood, she kisses you. The taste of your own blood envelopes your mouth, pulling away, she slits her wrist with her fang, “Here darling~ drink,” You shake your head, but couldn’t help but stare at the beautiful crimson staining her milky skin. Drawn to it, you lean closer, taking hold of her hand. You lick the dripping blood leading yourself to the slit on her wrist, before drinking your fill. The warmth takes hold of your body, “Atta boy~ drink to your heart's desire~”
Darkness starts to take you over, as you sleep past out. Strange, all you did was drink her blood.
“Get up Y/n,” You hear her, your eyes flutter open, you don’t feel any clothes on you. You’re shirtless as your body is covered in hickies, you look at her, her beauty is undeniable, eternal is an understatement, “It’s been a week since I turned you.”
“Wait,” You croaked out, “You fucking turned me?”
“Yes,” She stands up from her chair, dropping her robe, revealing her body. The perky breasts with her puffy pink nipple stand out to you. She gets on top of you, stroking your cock, “I want you to be my lover for the time being, if you choose to stay is up to you but you now live as a vampire,” Once she was satisfied with your hardness, she slides your cock into her, “Mmm~ I missed this feeling, although you’re bigger than most,” She moves your hips, grinding against you. Your hand reaches her meaty ass, squeezing it. Spreading it with your grip, you start to thrust upwards into her, “Now you’re on board~” She moans out, taking your cock better than any woman before her. You ignore the changes that you can notice about your body only focusing on her. The recoil from her body as your body collides with hers, her juices coated your cock and your thighs.
“Fuck Aeri,” You breath out as you flip her onto her back, continuing your assault on her body.
“Please, keep saying my name. I- I love it when you say my name,” She says between her moans, your hand pushing down her hips.
“Take it Aeri,” You comply with her request, her back arches to better accommodate you. Using your grip on her hips, you pound and pound away. Not worrying about her, she can take it, “Fuck come on Aeri.”
“Fuck Y/n, give it to me!” She screams out gripping on the sheets, “Give that fat fucking cock~” She tightens squirting all over the sheets, her tightness makes you cum. You push deep in her, filling her.
“That was the best sex I’ve ever had,” You say between your breaths as you pull out of her with a pop.
“I-I take b-back what I said, you can’t leave,” She reaches behind her, sliding your still hard cock back into, “G-give me more please, daddy?”

Daydreams || A Dead Boy Detectives Ficlet
A journalist interviews Charles and Edwin, asking how they would feel if Season 2 got cancelled. aka: the time i got too carried away making incorrect quotes (hence this fic being mostly dialogue), so have this really short ficlet of them!! Also yes, they technically broke the 4th wall during this entire thing.
Edwin and Charles are sitting on chairs, sitting in front of a white backdrop - much like those you see in interviews. Because they were in an interview, and by the looks of it, it was almost about to end.
One of the news reporters have given Charles and Edwin a question: How would they feel if they didn't get renewed for Season 2?
"Nonsense." Edwin reacts almost immediately. "It is imperative that we get renewed for Season 2. I must," he composes himself, "I must hear Charles tell me he loves me."
Charles, next to him, raises an eyebrow, and looks at Edwin with a smile, "Oh, and you're certain about that, yeah?"
"Well, no. But one could infer that-"
A little peck had landed on Edwin's lips.
Charles has just kissed Edwin, and the two boys look at each other. Charles is the first to speak.
"'Cause you're right. I do. I am in love with you."
Edwin just looks at him, stunned. Charles, charming as he is, gives him a topic to go off of.
"But keep going. I love hearing you talk about whatever's on your mind."
Edwin tries to speak, but he cannot seem to focus with what just happened and how casual Charles is treating this situation. All that comes out of his mouth is a series of mumbles and stutters, "I- there is-- I am… speechless."
"Aw," Charles smiles, "luckily, that isn't a problem."
He kisses him again, way more intense than the small peck he gave him earlier. They wrap their hands around each other's head, and continue. For Charles, it felt like a dream come true. He had been waiting to say that for a long time and--
"Right, Charles?" a voice says, interrupting whatever Charles was imagining.
"Huh, yeah, what?"
Turned out it was a dream. A daydream, anyway.
"Clearly, you got distracted again." Edwin gave a sigh - not one of disappointment, though. Maybe Charles was just imagining it, but it sounded like... a sigh of adoration.
"Anyway, I was telling these journalists just now that if our show does not get renewed for another season, then it would be highly devastating - for both us, the agency and the viewers at home."
"Oh," Charles collects himself, "Oh yeah, now you got me. I totally agree."
He looks at the camera. "I think a lot of people are... excited to see where our story leads, especially like- especially considering all the different narratives in store for us."
He ends with a chuckle, and turns to Edwin, smiling. "Also, sorry for zoning out there, mate. Won't happen again. Promise."
"We shall see about that." Edwin said to him with a coy smile, hiding his delight, before turning his attention to the journalists in front of them.
"Would that be all for you lovely people today? Charles and I do still have a lot of work to get done."
"Certainly, Mr. Payne and Mr. Rowland. Thank you for your time."
The news reporter looks through their notes as Charles and Edwin walk out of the set, looking very satisfied with the outcome of the interview.

1k event: interview with ellie williams
☁︎ HAPPY 1K LOVES!!! i got this idea from @collegecraze as she does 'interviews' with characters of her game on her patreon and i thought it'd be funny to do my own with our very own angry lesbian <3 she's canon-typical in this interview! ☁︎ tw: alcohol usage, some sexual discussion but nothing too explicit
ellie: hello...is this thing on?
you: please...ellie...we're live.
ellie: oh we are?? sorry..
you: it's no problem! anyways....intro track plays...welcome to frankie's podcast! where we interview YOUR favorite 2D video game characters! and i'm your host!
ellie: what do you mean by 2D vide-
you: tonight, we have our favorite angry, murdering lesbian, ellie williams!!
cue round of applause
ellie: yea, sup.
you: so, ellie, tell us a little bit about yourself.
ellie: uhh, i'm ellie. i'm 19. i'm a part of the small community in jackson— lover of weed and space.
you: so you don't live with dina and jj anymore?
ellie: nah- wait, how'd you know that?
you: not important. so...you're single?
ellie: yeah but, look, i'm not looking for anything serious.
you: okay, okay, how about something casual?
ellie: yeah, sure, whatever. why are you asking me these questions? you said you needed help finding your dog when you dragged me away.
you: ......look, i needed an excuse to get you to agree to my interview. anyways! ya heard it hear folks, ellie is looking for something casual. *wink*
ellie: ...okay...
you: okay, ellie! next topic. do you think you'd ever get over dina?
ellie: uh...well...— do i have to talk about this?
you: yes. think of this as a therapy session.
ellie: well, i'm not sure. we went through a lot together and..i thought we were gonna be together forever, you know? but she doesn't really understand why i had to leave.
you: i'm sorry. must've been tough, how are you holding up?
ellie: i'm pulling through. traveling by myself is weirdly..therapeutic.
you: right, and you're travelling to california to find...abby, correct?
ellie: *cringes* yeah.. her.
you: and how do you feel about abby anderson?
ellie: i mean, i didn't kill her. that says something, right? but i just— i just can't get over what she— what she— i'm sorry...excuse me.
you: okay, frankie, take us to commercial break please.
"i'm sorry, ellie. i think we started the show off with a sensitive topic," you say, rubbing her back soothingly.
"it's fine, it's fine. she's not something i wanna talk about right now, anyways. we can talk about other things," ellie murmurs. you take the initiative to wrap your arms around her neck, pulling her in for a hug. you feel her tense in your arms, before she relaxes and wraps her arms around your waist.
"ready to continue?" you ask, and she nods, wiping a tear from the corner of her eye.
"yeah."
you: welcome back to frankie's podcast! we're still here with our favorite sapphic!!
cue intro track
you: so, ellie, how would you feel answering some questions from our lovely viewers?
she shrugs.
ellie: i'm down.
you: perfect! our first question is....'what makes you truly happy? where is your happy place?
ellie: hmmm....i think i'd have to say the museum of science and history in wyoming. uh, i like thinking of the memories i had there, with joel.
ellie has a small smile upon her lips.
you: how sweet. i'm sure joel is up there, thinking of all the memories you guys had together.
ellie nods, but you couldn't help but notice the sad glimmer in her eyes.
you: okay! second question, let me read this one. oh! uh— are you a top or bottom?
ellie chokes on her water, the liquid dribbling down her chin.
ellie: huh? what??
you: it's what the people want to know.
ellie: uh— i prefer being on top.
you let out a nervous cough.
you: good to know.
you were about to ask the next question until you see the producer, frankie, walk over to you both with two shot glasses.
frankie: okay, cuties, here's a shot of tequila, specifically casamigos reposado. think you both should loosen up a little bit.
you: can i get a chaser?
frankie: yea, sure, how 'bout you, ellie?
ellie shakes her head.
ellie: nah, i'm good.
frankie: 'kay, tough guy.
frankie leaves and shortly comes back with a coke, handing it to you and retreating back to her post.
you pop open the can, holding it in one hand, with the shot glass in the other.
you: cheers?
ellie: cheers.
she clinks the glass against yours, then downing the shot in one gulp. you gulp yours in one swallow, chasing it with the soda right after.
you: whew, that was nice.
ellie: yea, sure takes the edge off.
you: okay, next question. what is your ideal partner?
ellie: hmm...let me think. maybe someone who's really funny and smart too— not like book smart, but just smart. someone who i can really get along with, like a best friend.
you: how sweet.
ellie: yeah, i am.
you: ..okay, moving on. ass or ti-
ellie: ass.
you: you sound confident about that answer.
ellie: 'cause i love ass.
ellie narrows her eyes at you, and you look away, clearing your throat.
you: next question. do you love lana del rey?
ellie: ....who's that?
you: according to google, she's this indie rock singer. we could listen to one of her songs from her new album?
ellie: yeah, lets do that.
frankie hits a track, and music begins to play throughout the studio.
the track stops as the song comes to an end.
you: so, what'd you think?
ellie: first of all, she's hot as fuck. second of all, i could get down to her songs, s'not usually what i listen to but 's a pretty song.
you: yup, the bad bitches listen to lana.
frankie: my good friend, kittie, loves lana, ellie! i should give her your number!!
ellie turned, not hearing what the producer was yelling.
ellie: huh?
you: MOVING ON. how do you feel about pillow princesses?
ellie: love 'em. they're cute as fuck.
you: they are indeed. how would you feel knowing about a 1/3 of your fanbase are pillow princesses?
ellie: seriously?
you nod.
ellie: ....shit.
ellie smirks and relaxes against the cushion of the chair, manspreading her legs, the chemicals of the alcohol she consumed before taking affect on her brain.
you swallow thickly, wiping a bead of sweat, and reading the next question on the page.
you: okay, next question. what's your workout regimen?
ellie: uhh. don't really have one. running for you life and fighting infected with the strength of a powerlifter certainly helps.
you: that's it?
ellie: what do you expect me to say? i lift six out of seven days of the week and drink raw egg yolks?
you: okay...don't need to be so sassy. jeez.
she looks at you, and laughs, shaking her head.
ellie: what a brat.
you: .....are you trying to flirt with me?
ellie: and so, what if i am?
you: feeling confident now, are we?
ellie: the alcohol helped a little bit.
frankie: kids! keep it professional!
you: right, right. ahem, ellie. how do you feel so far? being on the show?
ellie: definitely feel more comfortable. the alcohol and the pretty host interviewing me helped a bunch.
you: me? y-you think i'm pretty?
ellie: yea, of course.
you: you're not too bad yourself.
ellie: yeah? wanna get out of here after this? get another drink?
you: we can leave right now, if you want to.
ellie: hell, yeah.
the both of you get up from your chairs, retreating backstage.
frankie: hey! you guys! we have to finish!!
frankie sighs, knowing you both were already on your way to leave the studio.
frankie: i don't even think she can legally drink here!!! oh christ.
frankie picks up the mic.
frankie: well! that's all, folks! and i wanna say thank you for 1k! hopefully next time we'll have ellie again, accompanied by abby anderson!
ellie peeks out from the curtain.
ellie: WHAT?!
frankie: goodnight, everyone!
a/n: let me know how yall like this concept :P and how i can adjust! love u bbs

how did you not notice?🫶
pairing : daniel ricciardo x fem!reader, platonic f1 grid x fem!reader
summary : based on my two prompts: "oh my gosh, eww, you peed on that... wait, are you serious?" and "you fucking peed on that and you made me touch it!", the f1 grid, girlfriends and wives find out that gianna and daniel, are pregnant with their first child.
warnings : fluff, pregnancy announcement, swear words
a/n : decided to write a happy pregnancy one for danny ric after the depressing pregnancy/miscarriage fic that i wrote! i promise this time this one is pure fluff! and reader's name is like mentioned in the summary, gianna <3
gianna couldn't believe her eyes. for maybe, almost close to a month into the f1 season, she hadn't been feeling too well, causing her to have to take certain races during the season off and other times have to watch it from hospitality so she wouldn't feel sick in the paddock. it scared gianna some that she couldn't figure out why she was so dizzy, lethargic, tired and nauseous but it wasn't until she caught up with kelly, max's girlfriend, her husband's former teammate and her best friend during a break in the race season that everything seemed to make sense to the younger girl.
"...gianna, you okay?" kelly's voice had suddenly come through gianna's ears again and she maintained eye contact with the older brunette
"hmm? yeah, i...i'm fine kelly, just....i...i am so sorry, i'd truly love to stay longer but, i just forgot about some errands i got to run for daniel! can we raincheck lunch for a later date?" gianna seemed in a hurry, rummaging through her purse for a twenty pound note for the coffee and kelly didn't want to prolong her lateness, nodding her head enthusiastically
"oh, of...of course, babe, don't even apologise! we can totally take that raincheck for a later date! stay safe and, i hope you get better soon!" kelly smiled sympathetically after the girls talked about gianna's symptoms and that was how kelly found out she was pregnant with her little girl penelope, which ultimately got gianna in a sprial without the woman fully realising it or intending it
"thanks so much, kelly and, i'm always safe, you know that. especially considering who my husband is!" gianna chuckled, her angelic laugh making kelly giggle too as they joked about daniel, gianna's husband, fellow driver and former teammate of max
"of course, i was just making sure!" kelly called out as the two ladies walked their separate ways to their cars, gianna shook her head as her smile never once faltered
later on, that day after kelly and gianna had parted ways, the younger blonde walked herself into a pharmacy and bought herself a handful of clearblue pregnancy tests. after her conversation with kelly about how sick she had been feeling and how worried she was, it truthfully now made so much sense that she would be pregnant when she also suddenly realised that during this entire time she had been unwell, she hadn't gotten her period like she was supposed to during the second week of this month of the f1 season. she just hoped to some degree that she was pregnant and that daniel would be just as excited. even though this was a topic that daniel and gianna would have almost daily due to constant questions about it in interviews and things, it still somewhere in the blacklights of her head worried her that maybe, right now, they shouldn't be trying to settle down so soon.
however, the moment that all ten of the pregnancy tests, yes ten, showed their results, gianna was so relieved and almost fell to her knees. all ten pregnancy tests had come back positive so, there wasn't a single doubt that daniel and gianna hadn't conjured up a junior ricciardo. because they did and the ten pregnancy tests proved all the evidence needed to support that claim. now, all that gianna needed to do was to tell her husband and then later on down the line, tell the rest of the grid and their significant others. with a small pep in her step, gianna decided to buy some infant unisex converse and decided that she'd announce her pregnancy to daniel with a youtube video challenge idea that she had seen her influencer sister do years ago. reminding the girl of how her elder sister georgia announced her pregnancy to her and her family, which was done in the same way.
daniel had very clearly noticed the new pep in his wife's step as he arrived back at the hotel after his day off with the lads. smiling with confusion at the set-up of a film camera, the couch and a box with a piece of fabric that covered a small side opening and then an open opening on the other side, he didn't question it and just followed his wife to the couch.
"can we film a quick youtube video, babe?" gianna asks her husband as they pull out of a hug and peck each other's lips as he nods his head grateful he hadn't drunk his entire body weight as some of his bandmates had regrettably (but hilariously) had done
"course we can, no wonder why i was smart and didn't get drunk! should i be worried though?" daniel sarcastically said with a wink as gianna giggled after the memory of the last youtube challenge the husband and wife filmed went through her head (yes, daniel was drunk in that last video, hence his comment about him being glad he wasn't drunk this time)
"not at all, i don't think..." gianna trailed off as daniel smirked before taking the seat next to his wife, a small four-legged chair sat in front of them, the box laid on top
"...okay, babe, the first item is in the box, are you eyes closed?" gianna smiled as daniel giggled softly as he nodded his head
"mhm," he vocalised, letting his wife know that his eyes were closed as she continued
"ok, the fans who are watching the video can see what's in the box except you. so, just, stick your hand in and, feel around, pick it up, and see if you can figure out what it is, okay?" gianna explains as daniel laughs at the slight innuendo before nodding his head
"o...kay...." daniel trailed off, his australian accent peeking through as he placed his hand into the opened side of the box as he slightly hesitated, flinching his hand before placing it back in
gianna had placed in the infant unisex converse first because the pregnancy test would have been too obvious and easy she felt and then it wouldn't be so much of an amazing surprise, in gianna's opinion. so, starting off with the converse would act as a good clue to the fact that the shoes are for a baby - meaning that gianna is pregnant without telling him straight away with the pregnancy test.
daniel chuckled, his head falling back as he felt the pair of converse, "are these like, converse for infants?" gianna sucked a breath in before a small chuckle left her mouth
"can i pull it out to check?" daniel then queried as gianna vocalised a small "yeah", daniel then grabbed the infant converse and opened his eyes
laughing at the infant converse, it seemed to gianna that it hadn't registered in his head that it was to announce the news of her being pregnant and the couple being parents. so, due to daniel's confusion she just set aside the infant converse, told daniel to close his eyes again and that she'd put the next clue to her surprise announcement into the box.
biting her lip and willing away her joyful tears, she announced to daniel that he could place his hand in the box again and guess the next clue. it obviously stumped daniel as, unlike the first time with the infant converse, it seemed as if daniel hesitated in guessing what the item in his hand was. i mean, surely, it wasn't the first time the man had felt or even seen a pregnancy test but, it flew right past his mind because he didn't think he wouldn't notice if his wife was showing the symptoms of pregnancy or recognise that for the past month, they were the same ones that their best friend kelly and the other f1 mum's had when they were pregnant. however, it seemed as if five minutes later, he kind of figured it out since it was obvious that he hadn't noticed his wife's symptoms like he thought he wouldn't have missed.
"is...is this a pregnancy test?" daniel finally calls out, his eyes adorably crinkled shut as gianna giggles softly as she watches her husband open his eyes and turn to his wife, his hand still holding the test
"wait, it's been used?! ew, you fucking peed on it and you made me touch it!" daniel freaked out as he then brought the pregnancy test out of the box properly before he decided to take a better look at it after just touching it
thinking it didn't have an answer on the panel thingy, he looked at it before it registered in his mind what it said. "gianna, are...are you serious?" daniel's voice trembled as tears shed his eyes as gianna smiled, nodding her head with a tender look at her husband
"are you actually serious?" daniel's chin wobbled as he tried not to cry, gianna smiled brighter and nodded her head
"dead serious," gianna smiled as daniel chucked the box, chair and the pregnancy test all to the floor as he pulled his wife in for a hug, letting his tears stream down his cheeks onto gianna's shoulder, hoping they wouldn't get a noise complaint from the hotel manager
"we're having a baby!" daniel quietly sobbed out as gianna giggled and nodded her head, pulling out of the hug as she ruffled her husband's hair before stroking his cheek
"mhm, we're having a baby, daniel!" gianna confirmed again, knowing that it was going to take a lot of confirmation for daniel to really believe his dream of becoming a father was going to come true
after another two confirmations of the pregnancy, it seems as if daniel still hadn't cried all of his tears out as he continued to cry in his wife's embrace. daniel couldn't help the smile that was tucked away, hidden by gianna's sweater as she made small, rubbing motions of comfort on daniel's back to comfort him. finally though, thirty minutes later, it seemed as if every single tear that he could have shed, had been cried and the couple were now just coming up with ways to surprise their families and then the rest of the f1 grid family after getting the go-ahead by their ob-gyn.
💌
a week or two had passed since daniel and gianna had found out about the pregnancy when it had been decided that they could tell their families and everyone else since gianna was now in her second trimester. telling both families, the ricciardos and the saints at the same time was so casual that it actually had such a delayed reaction that daniel and gianna thought they didn't hear them the first time.
the way they told them was that, because georgia, gianna's sister is a nurse, gianna decided that after being offered wine, because she always does, she'd make a joke about the fact that her sister should know that drinking alcohol when pregnant is a big no-no. hoping that it would give the normal sometimes clueless families that gianna was pregnant.
"wine, gianna?" georgia offers as gianna smiles, shaking her head no, confusing georgia as it was very well known how in love gianna was with alcohol
"ah, no thanks georgia," the pregnant girl responds which confuses everyone as daniel tries his hardest to not outwardly react or pull any attention onto himself in a way that could further clue everyone into the surprise
"why? gia, you never turn down a glass..." georgia trails off as gianna decides to just tell her since no one had thought to look down at her slightly protruding stomach
"...you're a nurse georgia, i thought...well, i'd hope you would know that pregnant women are highly advised to not drink..." gianna trailed off, hoping that both families would react but, it seems as if they weren't at all
that was until georgia finally realised what her younger sister had just revealed.
"...wuh...wuh...wait, gianna! no fucking way!" she squealed, almost dropping the wine bottle and rushing over to the other end of the table, pulling her younger sister in for a hug and almost out of her seat as the older sister held back her joyful tears as the sisters giggled, swaying side to side
despite georgia's dramatic and loud realisation, it seemed as if everyone else was still so clueless that daniel and gianna were pregnant. so clueless in fact that it wasn't until gianna and georgia's mum finally looked down towards her youngest daughter's tummy, noticing the slightly curved baby bump that had been forming but wasn't totally hidden when she then announced out loud in a question that gianna was pregnant.
"gia, you're pregnant?" mrs saint squeaked out as tears welled up in the mother's eyes, gianna nodding her head as daniel placed his hand on the small of her back
"yeah, i'm pregnant," gianna confirmed as finally, the rest of the ricciardos and saints reacted in due course making gianna and daniel chuckle at the very delayed reactions of their families
💌
she couldn't hide the nervousness that was welling up inside her as gianna waited for the moment the wags (kelly, carola, lily z, lily m, luisa, rebecca and alex) realised what it was that kelly was fiddling with. exactly in the way that gianna surprised daniel, the couple were surprising the partners and fellow f1 grid about her pregnancy with the "what's in the box challenge" with the other spouses being told first.
kelly was extremely hesitant to place her hands inside the box with her eyes closed. due to her being a mother herself with one girl, she was extremely nervous to see what her best friends could be making her touch right now. and having the rest of the f1 girlfriends watching on in anticipation was making her feel more anxious about the item that she was trying to guess. however, it shocked gianna that kelly was so oblivious to the fact that she was literally fondling a positive pregnancy test that would announce gianna and daniel's first pregnancy and not be responding immediately with the answer of it being a pregnancy test.
"--what is this?" kelly chuckles after nearly fifteen minutes of fondling the pregnancy test and not guessing it, the rest of the spouses chuckling at kelly forfeit
"are you seriously giving up, kelly?" gianna giggled, daniel biting his lip so he wouldn't laugh or again potentially give it away as he stood behind the camera that was filming the video
kelly giggled in defeat as she nodded her head, "yes, i give up, gianna! what is it?" kelly squeals out as she then furrows her eyebrows, her eyes showing a flash of recollection
"wait, wait, i...i think i know what it is!" kelly called out in excitement as her eyes widened with joy, looking at gianna if she could take the item out, gianna nodding her head
immediately, kelly yelped out, similar to daniel's initial reaction, the pregnancy test landing on the raised table in front of the group, gianna trying to keep kelly quiet so it wouldn't clue the f1 boys, "oh my gosh, eww you peed on that...wait, are you serious?"
the wags laughed at kelly getting grossed out by a used pregnancy test before it all clicked in their heads that it clicked in kelly's head that it was gianna's used pregnancy test. kelly had since let out a semi-muffled squealed sob, attacking gianna into a hug, the two girls falling onto the couch with the table that had the positive pregnancy test fall to the floor. the other girls' brains were slowly clicking in realisation when they noticed the way daniel was watching his wife and friend celebrate together, the other girls jumped up to pull daniel in for a hug.
"you're pregnant, gia?" kelly whimpered out as she and gianna stood up off the couch, kelly wiping away her tears as the two girls saw the other girls hug daniel as they celebrated
hearing kelly say if gianna was pregnant and seeing daniel's joy that they could finally tell everyone made the entire group happy. it was tears and joyus laughter all around for a while.
after calming down and the tears stopped, that was when gianna and daniel had to tell max, checo, oscar, alex, charles, carlos and lando.
similar to how they told kelly, gianna had max guess what was in the box. like his girlfriend, max fondled the pregnancy test for a few moments with no clue about what it was when a couple of minutes quicker than kelly did, he had the same exact freak out as his girlfriend had before him.
"hold up, is this...is this a pregnancy test?" max chuckled, hanging his head low as he chuckled as neither gianna nor daniel responded at first which seemed to make max freak out even more
"gianna, are...are you pregnant?" max all of a sudden got emotional and teary-eyed, the other drivers still unsure about what was going on that was until they heard the part where max questioned if gianna was pregnant
perking up, lando then asked, "gianna, are you pregnant with you and daniel's first baby?!" lando smiled with the possible exciting thought of a new f1 grid baby being introduced into the world
shrugging her shoulders, she nudged at max to reveal what it was that he was holding in the cardboard box, "i dunno lando...max, am i pregnant with me and daniel's first baby?" gianna teased with a shoulder shrug as an emotional max reveals the pregnancy test that did indeed reveal that gianna was pregnant with her and daniel's first baby
immediately, carlos, lando, checo, alex, charles, oscar and then max, after throwing down the pregnancy test, wrapped their arms around their best friend and congratulated her on her pregnancy. daniel then joined them after it was then revealed that girls had already been told too.
it made butterflies flutter throughout both daniel and gianna's tummies that they were finally getting the blessing of being parents for the first time after it being a point of talking after their marriage. after all the happy tears and squeals and jubilation over gianna and daniel's announcement, gianna couldn't help the jokingly snide comment that fell out of her mouth as she drank a mocktail.
"how did you guys not notice? i thought danny and i had made it way too obvious for you!"
fin
when i wrote this for the first time, i didn't like it as much as i thought i would. then i wrote a kian egan version and i liked it a lot better. now that i've done a danny ric version, i think i know which one i like better! and now like i've done the last two times since writing this one-shot, here is some context for the title that's so vague. because gianna is married to daniel and daniel is an f1 driver who travels constantly during the f1 season in the beginning of the one-shot, i mentioned that for some of the season that gianna had been sick. mr and mrs ricciardo then thought that after finding out about their pregnancy and not trying to keep it a secret but not telling everyone, people would realise a lot quicker that potentially, gianna could be pregnant. however it wasn't until they literally had to spell it out for them that they realised she was pregnant. hence the 'how did you guys not notice?' title and comment. because they hadn't really tried to keep it a secret like supposed to so it was just a funny little jab at their friends lol.

(knock on the door, door creaking)
[NIKI]
(unsure) Hi. I’m looking for an archivist?
(head banging on the desk)
[ARCHIVIST]
Oh, hello there. Sorry. That would be me. Ranboo, the Head Archivist.
[NIKI]
Oh, right, nice to meet you. I’m Niki, Niki Nihachu.
Sorry if it’s rude, but… Aren’t you a bit too…
[ARCHIVIST]
Young for a Head Archivist? (nervous chuckle) Uh, yes, I am. But there’s been an unfortunate accident with the previous one and we’re a bit short-staffed at the moment. I promise I’m qualified.
[NIKI]
Oh, alright then.
(awkward silence)
[ARCHIVIST]
Uh, did you want something? To make a statement?
[NIKI]
(hurriedly) Yes, yes. Sorry. Yes, that. A statement. I’ve been told that you deal with the spooky stuff.
[ARCHIVIST]
Okay. Cool, cool, that’s cool. You can sit down, if you want.
(scrape of a chair on the floor)
[ARCHIVIST]
Okay. Oh, seems like it’s going already. Well, then. Statement of Niki Nihachu, regarding …
[NIKI]
Uhm. My experience working at the Showfall mall, I guess?
[ARCHIVIST]
Recorded direct from subject, 2nd of June, 2023.
Statement begins.
[NIKI]
Well, firstly, I have to say that I’ve never really believed in the paranormal before… I felt like it was too silly, I guess? Too impossible. I was never superstitious. But then all these things kept happening and now I don’t even know what to think anymore. I’m fairly sure I’m not losing my marbles yet, but then… Then it means that something did happen. I don’t know. I’m not really sure what was real and what wasn’t.
I’ve been looking for a second job for the past few months, alright? I’m not from around here originally, as you might guess. We came here with my friend a couple of years ago and shared an apartment, but he decided to move to Utah a while back. I couldn’t find a roommate quickly enough, so I needed extra money.
I work in a bakery downtown in the mornings and afternoons and they pay quite good for a bakery, so I wanted to keep that job and find something part-time to do for the rest of the day. I asked around, but there was no one willing to let me off for the first half of the day.
I was getting a bit desperate when I saw the ad near my house. It said that the Showfall Mall nearby was looking for retail workers for the late shift. My neighbour, a sweet elderly woman, said that I shouldn’t accept it, because there were some nasty rumours about weird happenings there, but I didn’t listen to her. Probably should’ve.
I called their number the same day and a lovely woman, who introduced herself as Rae, answered me. I won’t bore you with all the mundane details, I’m sure you know what it’s like to apply for a job, but we agreed to meet for an interview the next day. I went there, almost got lost on my way and then spent a couple of hours getting the training from Rae.
So, yeah, I became a shop assistant at the Warehouse, one of the stores in the mall. It sold clothes and accessories for young people, kind of like a rip-off version of Hot Topic, except with a smaller variety and even worse quality.
It was alright at first. I’ve worked in retail before and it’s the same everywhere, for the most part. Fold clothes, stock shelves, ring up purchases. I worked the closing shift, so there weren’t that many customers. Though, really, I don’t think it’s ever crowded there in general. No one comes to that mall. Of course, it felt a bit eerie there sometimes, what with the empty corridors and barely any employees, but what can you do about that? Rae said I could play my music through the speakers, so I did. It helped to pass the time somewhat. Everything was fine.
Only… Only, sometimes I saw some things out of the corner of my eye that weren’t supposed to be there. Sometimes I would see the bowls with little trinkets full of colourful candy instead. Sometimes white minimalistic walls erupted in garish ornaments. Sometimes Rae and her well-mannered friend Sykkuno looked very rat-like when they came to check up on me.
And I kept seeing this creepy carousel in the indoor playground, spinning around, playing old-timey music right in the middle of the children's area near the food court. But there couldn’t possibly be anything. There wasn’t even enough space for it, I checked. There are exactly three steps between the slide and the monkey bars. No carousel in the world could fit there.
There were these three guys that I usually spent my break with - Ethan from the video game store, and Vinny from the jewellery shop, and Austin from the fancy boutique on the second floor, so I asked them about it. They just looked at me like I was mental and asked if I was feeling alright. Austin said that his wife also saw things sometimes when she was too tired and suggested sleeping more.
It was all a bit concerning, of course, but I hadn’t really started questioning everything until Charlie showed up. I had been working there for three weeks, I think, when he got hired. He was a nice guy, truly, cheerful and funny and very quick-witted, I gathered that immediately. But he kept appearing everywhere, seemingly being in several places at once, and that seriously worried me. I would go to the food court and Charlie would be there in his lime apron, smiling at the children and scooping ice-cream. I would pass a toy store and Charlie would be entertaining the customers there in a forest-green shirt. I would pop into the pharmacy near the entrance and Charlie, in a soft teal crewneck, would sell me my painkillers. And then I would go through the food court again and he would still be there.
I didn’t know what to think, but kept blaming it on exhaustion.
And then four days later it got even worse.
I clocked in like usual and stayed behind the register while there were no customers, reading up on some new cake recipes I wanted to try. Then, an hour or so into my shift, the lights started flickering. On and off. On and off. On and off. I honestly tried to ignore them, power outages are nothing new to me, but then they turned red. They weren’t supposed to - they couldn’t have possibly done so. I knew there were some red lamps in the tattoo parlor downstairs and a couple of ultraviolet ones in the flower shop, but there weren’t any coloured lights in our wing. Then the whole shop was plunged into darkness.
I thought maybe the fuse had blown, because the lights in the corridors were still working, so I decided to go find the electrical room. I wouldn’t have usually done so, but the mall was always so deserted that I doubted it even had an actual electrician. And I didn’t want to stay in the dark. So I went looking for it.
The problem is, I kept getting lost. I’m usually good with directions and I was sure that I learnt how to navigate the mall in my first week, but that day I just kept circling back to my store. I would turn to the left towards the food court and then right towards the always-empty vinyl store, but I never actually reached there. I would go around the corner and end up back where I started. I was confused, to say the least. Utterly baffled. I think I spent at least fifteen minutes like that, going in circles.
I was going to try again, but then I saw a glimpse of someone, barely a shadow, in the store near the fitting rooms, so I headed there instead. We’re not supposed to leave the shop unattended when there are customers. ‘Cause, you know, someone might try to steal merchandise. I went there and called out to the person, but they didn’t stop, like they didn’t hear me. I started walking faster and that was when I noticed the uniform. The thing is, all the stores in the mall had a very strict uniform policy, or, at least, that’s what Rae told me when she hired me. The Warehouse employees were required to wear blazers in this bright red colour, like arterial blood or ripe strawberries. The woman, and by that point I was quite sure it was a woman, must have been a worker from a different shift, I thought.
Then right in between the stalls she finally stopped, turned around and it was my own face staring back at me. She looked afraid and bewildered, the same as I was, and started looking around in panic. I looked around too and noticed that the reflections in the stalls looked weird. Wrong. There were dozens of me in each one, all afraid and bewildered and wearing an ironed red blazer. I turned my gaze back to the Other-me in front of me, but she wasn’t looking at me anymore. Her eyes were locked onto one of the fitting rooms and then a bullet flashed towards her from there. Blood spread over her white blouse in a horrid scarlet flower. The other me screamed, I saw her mouth open, but it was deathly silent. Well, I screamed as well. Another shot made her body flail for the last time and then all her movements ceased. I kept screaming, I think.
I closed my eyes for a second, scared out of my wits, sure that I would be the next. When I opened them, though, I was the only one in the room. There was no murderer in a stall, no dead body, no blood. There was me and my shaken, wide-eyed reflections in the mirrors. One per mirror.
I didn’t understand anything. I’ll admit it, I actually, truly started thinking myself insane for the first time at that point.
I felt too unnerved to stay there any longer. I grabbed my bag from behind the counter and bolted. I didn’t want to be there a second more. I didn’t care about the paycheck, about the consequences of leaving your job like that, about anything else. I needed to go, be anywhere else but in that cursed mall.
Of course, it was stupid to believe that it was the end. If I thought that I’d been lost earlier, I was sorely mistaken. Then, though, I was actually completely lost. The corridors turned into a convoluted maze, twisting and turning at random points, leading to everywhere and nowhere. I didn’t recognise anything. There were no familiar stores anywhere, only long spiralling halls. I think I walked around for hours. In the end I just sat down and cried. Nothing felt real. I was so tired of being confused.
And then my phone rang. My neighbour got worried that it was after midnight and I wasn’t home yet, so she called. For some reason that helped. When I stood up after ending the call, the exit was right in front of me. I went home and spent the rest of the night crying to my friend on the phone. I didn’t tell him what happened, of course, but it helped.
I haven’t gone back to the mall ever since.
[ARCHIVIST]
When did you say it happened, again?
[NIKI]
Just last week, 26th of May or so. Sorry, do you mind?
[ARCHIVIST]
What?
[NIKI]
Could you not do the eye thing, please? It feels wrong.
[ARCHIVIST]
The eye thing?
[NIKI]
Yes, the eye thing. The one where they glow and I feel compelled to answer you.
[ARCHIVIST]
(bashfully) Oh, sorry.
[NIKI]
Cool. (unsure) So, do you believe me?
[ARCHIVIST]
Uh, yeah. Sounds quite reasonable. Have you had any problems since then?
[NIKI]
I don’t think so? What sort of problems?
[ARCHIVIST]
Hallucinations, doors in the wrong places, fractals, spirals, stuff like that…
[NIKI]
Hm. Still no.
[ARCHIVIST]
Well, that’s good. If they do show up, probably best not to get too close.
[NIKI]
Sure. Any other advice?
[ARCHIVIST]
No? No. That’s all. You left your info with Rosie, right?
[NIKI]
Yeah.
[ARCHIVIST]
We’ll let you know if there’s something.
[NIKI]
Well, thanks. At least for listening. And believing. Have a good day.

[ARCHIVIST]
Statement ends.
Well, isn’t this a lot. Miss Nihachu’s account further confirms our hypothesis that Showfall Mall and its parent company Showfall Media are embodiments of the Spiral and we have to keep looking in this direction.
I asked Sneeg to do some follow-up on the other people mentioned in the statement. We couldn’t find much information about this Ethan, other than what was previously mentioned in Frank Mortem’s statement about him being in his twenties and having no family. There is no legal trace of anyone called Vinny ever living in the area, so that seems to be some sort of a nickname, but we were unsuccessful at identifying him. There is, though, a missing person report concerning one Austin Show, aged 28, filed by his boyfriend in December of the past year.
I sincerely hope that Miss Nihachu’s well-being at the current moment is a sign that she will be well after this encounter with the paranormal, but unfortunately it is highly unlikely. Es Mentiras is not the one to let its victims go so easily.
This clears up some things at least. We know what happened to Charlie now. It could have been me. No, that’s not right. It should have been me. I shouldn’t have sent him out to do the investigation of Frank Mortem’s statement on his own. Not when he’s still unaware of the existence of the Fears. We need to urgently come up with a plan and rescue him from the Spiral’s clutches before it’s too late.
The accident during this recording is quite concerning as well. Seems like the Eye’s influence on me continues to grow and I am at a loss about what to do about it. Hetch keeps being cryptic and extremely unhelpful.
Recording ends.

I’m apparently even bad at coming up with fake titles so based entirely on what I’m currently listening to: “anyway the wind blows” for the fake fic thingy!
Hello sorry it took me a little while to answer this; I was trying to come up with an idea and also wanted to make sure my answer to yours didn't suck. I even did an actual one-shot for this instead of a plot outline.
Anyway I have grad school on the brain since I just, y'know, finished with that. This would've been done earlier, but my parents roped me into watching a weird Australian sitcom. Enjoy!
The problem with meeting your girlfriend in grad school, Katherine had decided, was that when it came time to finish grad school and move on to postdocs there was no guarantee you'd end up in the same place as said girlfriend.
She and Sarah had applied to as many geographically convenient positions as they could find - they'd even applied to a couple of the same universities. But at the end of the day, Sarah's only offer had been at Wellesley, and now that Katherine had heard back from all her interviews, she only had one offer too...in Virginia.
Katherine knew being at UVA would be a great opportunity, and the contract only lasted three years, but it still meant three years away from the person that she knew at this point was the love of her life. Sighing, she opened a new tab to look at transportation options between Boston and Charlottesville.
We should've gotten married, Katherine thought bitterly. Postdoc positions weren't exactly known for offering spousal appointments, but she couldn't help thinking it would've somehow changed things. But between the amount of time she and Sarah had been spending on their dissertations and the enjoyment she got out of telling her parents she still wasn't married, they'd never found the time. She wasn't opposed to it, but she was definitely too busy.
She was comparing the academic calendars for her and Sarah's respective universities when she heard the door open.
"Hey," Sarah said. She kicked her shoes off by the door before she came into the living room and dropped her bag onto the floor. She threw herself onto the couch next to Katherine and kissed the top of her head. "You're home early."
"No office hours today," Katherine reminded her. "Thought I'd leave early and get started on dinner, but then..."
"You got distracted?" Sarah offered.
"Something like that," Katherine murmured.
"Distracted by - " Sarah peered over her shoulder - "Charlottesville, Virginia? You hate the south."
"At least Charlottesville still goes below freezing sometimes." Katherine knew she was avoiding the topic, but in all her browsing calendars and plane schedules, she'd forgotten about the most important part - actually telling Sarah they'd be spending the next three years in a long-distance relationship.
"Hang on a minute." Sarah elbowed her. "You got the UVA position."
Katherine looked down at her keyboard. "Yes."
"Katherine!" Sarah exclaimed. "You got a job! Congratulations!" She threw her arms around her.
"Well, yes, but - "
Sarah pulled away from her. "Yeah?"
"It's a nine hour drive," Katherine reminded her. "Or a plane ride. And it's - "
"And it's worth it," Sarah finished. "You're worth it. Unless you don't - "
"I want to stay with you," Katherine confirmed. "It's just...distance is hard. The last time I tried, it crashed and burned, and what if it - "
"It'll be different this time," Sarah said. "We know how to communicate, we already live together, and us being long distance has a set end date."
"Only if some university is willing to hire both of us," Katherine muttered. "Or two universities in the same city."
"Well..." Sarah smiled as she reached for her bag. "I'd been debating when I should do this, but I - " She pulled out a box.
"You - you - " Katherine couldn't get the words out.
Sarah dropped to the floor. "Yeah." She opened the box to reveal a small emerald ring. "I probably should've thought of something to say first, but - Katherine. I am so, so lucky to call you my girlfriend, and I don't care where I end up after Wellesley, as long as it's with you. Will you - will you marry me?"
Katherine placed her laptop on the cushion next to her before she stood up, pulling Sarah up with her. "Yes!" She stood on her tiptoes to kiss Sarah, only distantly aware of Sarah putting the ring on her ring finer. "Yes, I'll marry you."
"I was a little worried you'd say no," Sarah said sheepishly. "With your parents and all."
"I care about you more than I care about going against my parents' expectations." Katherine laughed. "Besides, our wedding doesn't have to be traditional."
"You know," Sarah said thoughtfully, "If we get married before we graduate, we could both become Dr. Plumber-Jacobs."
"The doctors Plumber-Jacobs." Katherine grinned. "I like it. Think we can plan a wedding in a month?"
Sarah pulled her phone out of her pocket. "Who said anything about us planning it?"
Katherine looked down at the screen to see that Sarah was composing a text to her brother and his boyfriend. "I like the way you think."
#asks#ask game#alex!#isabel.tex#my writing#newsbians#hope this is like...not awful#i don't have as good of a handle on newsbians' characterization/dynamic as i'd like#anyway one of my latin professors in undergrad had to do long distance with her husband while they were doing their postdocs#so it was really exciting for them when they were able to wrangle a spousal appointment at my school#anyway time to scroll aimlessly for a bit and then sleep#gotta get up early tomorrow to visit my friend's classroom and see how they do classroom management!#the learning-to-be-a-teacher grind never ends!#it's a good opportunity though i'm excited#also this was my first time writing a proposal scene be gentle with me#oh and for anyone wondering the sitcom is called fisk and it's very funny

Sister⇔Change!: Chapter 3
“narumi sena” gets to work, and...
previous part (chapter 2)
next part (chapter 4)
Mona arrived at the job site and—
Mona (in Sena’s body): (Alright! I’ll act just like Narumi Sena does!)
Journalist: Good morning! I look forward to working with you today.
Mona (in Sena’s body): Th-the pleasure’s all mine~!
Journalist: Huh? Are you feeling unwell today, Sena?
Mona (in Sena’s body): Eh?! Why’d you ask…?
Journalist: I feel as though you’re usually more cheerful than this. Sorry, it’s probably just my imagination.
Mona (in Sena’s body): H-haha… Well, I may be feeling a little nervous…
Mona (in Sena’s body): (That scared me…! I thought that the jig was already up.)
Journalist: There’s no need to get so worked up. You can just answer me with your own words like you always do, Sena.
Journalist: Well then, let’s get this interview started, okay? First of all, has there been anything that you’ve been hooked on these days?
Mona (in Sena’s body): (I’ve been hooked on this indies band lately, but…)
Mona (in Sena’s body): (Big Sis wouldn’t ever give such an answer.)
Mona (in Sena’s body): Umm, I guess I’ve been hooked on sweet stuff these days~?
Journalist: You’ve been hooked on sweets? If you have any stores to recommend, please share them!
Mona (in Sena’s body): U-um… There’s ice cream from the convenience store… maybe?
Journalist: The convenience store, huh. Well, they sell lots of delicious foods these days, don’t they…
Mona (in Sena’s body): (The mood got kinda weird…?)
Journalist: Do you have any beauty tips to recommend to our readers?
Mona (in Sena’s body): Lemme think~... I’d recommend taking baths, I guess?
Journalist: Are you talking about half-body baths?
Mona (in Sena’s body): Y-you think so~? Ahaha…
Journalist: You’re unexpectedly more vague than I’d expected, Sena. I’d thought that you’d give more precise answers than this.
Mona (in Sena’s body): Y-yes, I’m talking about half-body baths! Be sure to sweat with all you’ve got in them!
Mona (in Sena’s body): (Acting like Big Sis is harder than I thought.)
Journalist: Next, I’d like to ask you all about love. Is there an ideal romance that you long for?
Mona (in Sena’s body): A-an ideal romance?!
Mona (in Sena’s body): (These questions are getting increasingly incomprehensible…!)
Mona (in Sena’s body): (But… if the topic’s about love… My image of what love would be like is…)
Mona (in Sena’s body): I think it’d be fluffy and sweet, just like a piece of candy~.
Journalist: Ooh! A piece of candy, was it?!
Journalist: That answer was so cute! It’d be the perfect headline for the feature.
Mona (in Sena’s body): G-glad to hear it.
Mona (in Sena’s body): (Will Narumi Sena’s reputation be okay…?)
Mona (in Sena’s body): (But still, I’m really happy that my answer was praised.)
Mona (in Sena’s body): (Next up’s a photoshoot for a fashion magazine, huh…)
Mona (in Sena’s body): I look forward to working with you today!
Cameraman: Let’s work hard, Sena. You look super cute today too!
Cameraman: Well then, I’ll get on with the shoot~.
Mona (in Sena’s body): Got it!
Mona (in Sena’s body): (Should I pose like this?)
Cameraman: You look kinda stiff. You can just strike really energetic poses for today’s shoot, okay?
Mona (in Sena’s body): (Really energetic poses, huh…)
Mona (in Sena’s body): (If that’s what he wants, that’s my forte! Alright! I’ll pull ‘em off perfectly as Narumi Sena…!)
Cameraman: Good work, Sena! You were really cute! You managed to get back into your usual groove in the second half of it, yeah?!
Mona (in Sena’s body): Thank you very much!
Cameraman: I just knew that you’d be able to make expressions like those. Didja develop a new charm point or something?!
Mona (in Sena’s body): Ahaha…
Mona (in Sena’s body): (I’m a little concerned about whether I managed to pull it off as Big Sis… But modelling was really fun! I got to wear so many outfits…!)
Mona (in Sena’s body): (I wonder how it’d feel like to live as “Narumi Sena” from here on out—...)

THE WIFE
izuku midoryia x reader
synopsis: you’ve been asked to do an interview after your husbands cute little story blew up. now it’s your turn to express your love for him
authors note: to the anon who did the ask i am SO SORRY. i posted it by accident then fucking deleted it in a panic.. don’t worry though i got the gist of it! for the people who don't know it was getting the reader's POV of how they fell in love with izuku as well. also sorry if i went a little off track. i js wanted to give reader a lil opinion and personality ☺️
you can find part one here
this was out of your comfort zone.
you sat in a plush chair across from a woman who was currently fiddling with the microphones. your husband izuku had done an interview with a popular podcast about a month ago. it wasn’t only popular because he was the number one hero. there was a charm to the episode that others couldn’t fake. the way he talked about you as if you showed him colors for the first time. everyone loved it.
now people really wanted to get into the lives of the midoryia’s, which included you. about a week ago you had gotten an offer to be on another podcast. you made sure to check out some of her work before you leaped into it.
the host's name was aiya, and she was absolutely amazing. not only were you laughing with the one episode you did listen to, but so did izuku since he was kind enough to watch with you.
"are you ready mrs. midoryia?" aiya asked going to put on the headphones. taking your own set of headphones, you placed them on as well.
"i am! plus you can just call me y/n. i really don't mind"
"thanks for letting me know," she clicked a button on her computer which started the camera up "hello everyone! it's aiya here! on this special episode we have the wonderful, and very lovely y/n midoryia in the building"
you gave a shy smile and waved to the camera "hello everyone!" you faced the aiya letting her smile ease your tensions "i just wanted to say thank you before we start. not only for inviting me on your podcast, but just being so respectful and kind as well"
aiya nodded placing both hands over her heart "you're just too kind! but girl you don't have to thank me for doing the bare minimum"
"no i really do have to. because there are a lot of other people out here that i've talked to and are not as professional and sweet like you. it's really crazy" you shook your head when you heard yourself start to get off topic "i'm sorry i don't want to control this whole interview. i think i got the rambling from my husband through the years"
both you and aiya laughed at your statement.
"don't worry about it! this is not a place where i will every cut you off from rambling, seriously. plus i want to get into some of that as well. what is your experience with the whole ‘being a wife of the number one hero’ thing? like you said before people can be unusually cruel to you for absolutely no reason"
you scoffed dramatically making aiya laugh.
"so when people ask me this in person, which has never happened ever" you made direct eye contact with the camera before turning back. this had aiya laughing more now than before "being married to izuku is great, but being married to deku can be.. iffy on my end. does that make sense?”
"yes and no"
"okay so what i mean is that being deku's wife is stressful. not only because of the major backlash that i get from the internet, tabloids, and gossip shows, but also because of my safety. the backlash is something that doesn't go away but gets easier as time goes on. for me it was easier to just laugh at how stupid they are. like one article called me fat, cool, but then another one from the same company called me pile of bones skinny" you tilted you head slapping one hand down on your thigh "now you just look fucking stupid because you can't pick one and clearly can't run a business. cause like how didn't you know that both of these articles were coming out?" you shook your head "they piss me off more than make me upset"
aiya listened carefully letting you go on with your rant.
"but when i say i love being izuku’s wife i really mean it. i love that man more than i love anyone else. i love the way he looks when he wakes up in the morning. i love the way he gets excited every time we see cows when we're driving. he is who i was meant to be with and i believe that with my whole heart. i see deku and izuku as two totally different people because i get to see it from both perspectives. i can understand how some people might not understand where i’m coming from with this and that’s okay. this is just how i’ve been able to express the way i feel about the whole situation”
“wow.. thank you so much for sharing your point of view on things. i hope this really opens the eyes to some of the haters out there”
“ugh me too” you played with the ring on your finger “i feel bad now. when this episode airs i can just imagine what he’s gonna say, ‘oh so my episode was me spewing my undying love for you and all i get is i hate my husband?’”
the two of you laughed thinking about it.
“no, but we’ve seriously talked about it before and he understands where i’m coming from. i love that he’s so understanding about everything”
“speaking of love,” aiya pulled out a piece of paper coming from her lap “we’ve got questions”
you clapped your hands together excitedly.
“oh! hit me”
“okay so of course deku did a podcast episode where he made all of us singles jealous by describing the moment he fell in love with you. so now people are wondering what was the moment you fell in love with him?”
you had been preparing for this question ever since you read the email.
“i actually fell in love with izuku pretty early in our relationship. maybe like a month in? i’ve honestly had a crush on him since year one, but we never got the chance to interact.”
it was early off in your third year when you had come down with a bad fever. the only reason you could assume the sickness took over you was because everyone had just moved back into the dorms. bringing whatever kind of diseases they wanted back.
“hi izuku”
the phone was placed on the pillow beside your head. you didn’t have enough energy to hold it up. hell, you’re surprised you even had enough energy to accept the call. everything on your body was just hot. they only thing you felt you needed was a cold compress on your forehead, but getting up just wasn’t an option at the moment.
“y/n you’re making me worried. are you sure you don’t need recovery girl?”
“i should be okay,” you stopped in the middle of your sentence to take in a long breath “plus i don’t think she could help with what i have anyway”
izuku was slipping on his training uniform as he was talking to you. he didn’t know if you could hear yourself, or if you even cared, but he could probably picture what you looked like. comforter thrown to the floor. medicine bottles scattered on your dresser and not knowing which one to choose.
“are you sure you don’t need anything?”
“i should be fine izu. just focus on- on training for the festival. bye now”
izuku had wanted to get a couple more sentences in to ease his anxiety, but you quickly hung up the phone without a second thought.
once you found yourself a semi-comfortable position you took the chance of drifting off to sleep.
the nap lasted about thirty minutes before you woke up to the feeling of a cold compress being laid onto your forehead. slowly, your eyes opened to reveal your boyfriend making sure it was in the right spot.
“izu” you mumbled going to sit up but he placed his hands on your shoulders laying you back down.
“nope, you’re resting”
he still had his training uniform on from the time you had called him.
“but you shouldn’t be here. you should be training”
the newfound coolness on your forehead felt amazing, and part of you wished he had came sooner.
“i can take a day or two off. it’s fine”
you shook your head gently.
“i don’t want you to miss it because of me”
“y/n are you me?”
“no”
“are you my teacher?”
“no, but-“
“then don’t worry about it. your health means more to me than training. i’ve been working hard for the past two years, so if i have to take a day or two off to take care of my girlfriend then i’m jumping at the opportunity”
it was right then and there you felt some of the weight lift of your shoulders. this felt like confirmation of what you had assumed you were feeling from the moment you first saw him.
you loved him.
you loved him so, so much.

So I’ve been meaning to get around to this literally forever but I’ve had so much going on and tumblr tends to be a bit of a nightmare scrolling very long posts BUT I finally read this and it was delightful :D
Extended thoughts under the cut so not everyone has to listen to me waffle, lol
-I was grinding my teeth that whole job interview scene. Jason was not missing out. At least where I’m from the questions that lady asked would not have to be answered and aside from being shitty are also just unprofessional as hell? You’re not missing out buddy don’t worry
-Loved the ASL bit (Leo absolutely would turn his hearing aids off to ignore someone that’s annoying him I’m cackling)
I’m now stupidly fond of the thought that even if they do eventually have/adopt a child Leo forever jokingly calls the roomba their firstborn
-“I’m cooking again? Man, I’m both the housewife and the breadwinner. What are you?” Sorry Jason but he’s got a point (this bit made me laugh out loud)
-Always obsessed with Jason just. Calling himself Valdez at every opportunity. He’s completely enamored with being able to call himself that and everything it represents (letting go of his own shitty mom! Connecting to Leo and getting to brag about the fact that they’re married at every opportunity! Having a connection to the mom Leo loved so much who Jason never got to meet!) and he’d never shut up about it
-I loved Leo and Jason taking turns comforting each other. Just in general it being balanced. I feel like Leo gets a lot of comfort (which is great! The boy needs hugs) but Jason usually tends to be taken at his facade of needing to keep it together and so rarely gets held in return which makes me sad, so while I’m not glad he had such a hard time (whose idea was it to have him hold a class on that particular topic, yikes), I’m glad he at least got to be held about it. I just adore mutual hurt/comfort stuff to no end
-Leo and Thalia having what seems like a running joke of her casually pulling knives on him is such menace behavior lmao. Love that for them, they would
-“You really are the best Husband ever.” “I can’t be,” Jason said, “You exist.” -> I’ll just be over there melting into a puddle in case anyone needs me 🥺
-Also their little wedding conversation. Leo being overwhelmed and overstimulated and Jason just being there. I’m <333
-Did not like the glitch situation! Am intrigued but may be happier pretending it never happened because I do like this just being the soft good ending that it (mostly) is
-Not the students knowing they can derail the lesson by making Jason waffle about his husband for half of it, I’m dying
-Penny seems fun! I like the thought of Leo having an apprentice. Out of curiosity: is she a Hephaestus/Vulcan kid?
Festus being curled around Leo like a kid is a lovely image I’m obsessed
-The conclusion is so so lovely. No everything is not magically okay because they’re together. Yes they’re happy but things aren’t always good. And they don’t have to be. They’re both doing the most they can. Still doing meaningful things and changing the world in little ways even if they’re not saving it themselves anymore. I have a variety of thoughts about this but mostly it’s just a really lovely sentiment
-Would love more info on Penny! And I do think extended Grace family sounds like a super interesting concept (maybe they’re a mixed bag where Jason decides some of them he’d rather have in his life than others and that’s something he kind of struggles with because he’s used to feeling like he has to do right by everyone including people he doesn’t like?)
Guys… it’s finally here.
After almost three months of working on it, my largest fic ever is finally finished- currently clocking in at around 15k words!!
This is a collection of short stories about “Domestic life with Leo and Jason” and the beautiful things that come out of that- I give this as my gift to the Valgrace community as a reminder that happy endings can happen, just sometimes we have to create them ourselves.
CW: Swearing, brief talk of homophobia, a little bit of angst sprinkled in for good measure.

Jason sat on the warehouse roof, watching the sun rise. His legs dangled off the side. He felt something brush gently against his ankle, and he saw the sole of Leo’s scuffed-up brown Doc Marten work-boot knock a little against his sneaker in the soft swing of Leo’s legs. The pale golden light of dawn glinted on the windows below them. Jason looked up and smiled at Leo.
Sure, insomnia’s a bitch. But Jason didn’t care when the man he loved was sitting next to him and smiling. He knew that he could get through the sleepless nights and he knew that dawn will always come after, no matter what. Whatever happens, the sun will rise. And Leo would be next to him.
They would always have each other.
Jason interlaced his fingers with Leo’s. It was a new day. He didn’t know what it would bring. But he knew he could count on seeing Leo’s face at the end of it, and the start of the next one.
Jason sat down in front of the interviewer.
“Jason Valdez.”
“That’s my name.”
She squinted at the paper and then studied him, “You don’t look like someone whose last name would be something like Valdez.”
Jason stifled a grumble. He hated when people pointed that out. Why couldn’t they keep their nose out of it?
“…Not that it’s any of your business,” Jason said, as calmly and respectfully as he could, “But I took my husband’s last name when I got married.” To emphasise his point, he casually put his hands on the desk in front of him so that his wedding ring was in full view. It was made of a special alloy of both imperial gold and celestial bronze, and carved with intricate designs. Jason loved to show it off.
The interviewer looked at Jason over the top of her thick-framed glasses, “Why?”
“Well…” Jason really didn’t like this woman, but he had to be professional. He decided blunt honesty was the best tactic to shut her up, “I didn’t have the best relationship with my mother. And I’d rather her name wasn’t a part of my identity. My husband, though, I love very much, and I want a piece of him to be with me. Now this job-“
“So, your husband…” The interviewer continued, “Is he any relation to Leo Valdez, the Greek demigod who launched a missile attack on New Rome?”
“You mean the Greek demigod that sacrificed his life to stop Gaea and save the world? Yes, that’s him,” Jason was getting properly annoyed. This was an interview for a job, not a dating profile. She didn’t need to know what went on in his private life.
“But he did launch the attack?”
“He. Was. Possessed.” Jason growled, “By an eidolon. Working for Gaea. He was not in control of his actions. Plus, that was fourteen years ago. Plus, some of Camp Jupiter’s top Praetors themselves saw to it that he was pardoned. His name is cleared, meaning my name is cleared. Now, can we talk about my credentials?”
“I didn’t get the job!” Jason said, dropping his bag by the door and throwing himself onto the couch.
“Oh no!” Leo said, looking up from where he was sitting, cross-legged on the carpet, a collection of sketches and blueprints spread out in front of him.
Jason waved his hand, dismissively, “It’s fine. I didn’t want it anyway. The interviewer gave me a bad vibe.” Jason didn’t mention that Leo’s name had come up in the interview- or that that was the reason why he hadn’t landed the job. It wasn’t Leo’s fault. They knew that living in New Rome might cause some problems, but it was the only decent place to find demigod work, and it wasn’t like Jason was gonna stop being married to Leo.
“How was your day?”
Leo turned back to the mess before him, and started shuffling papers around. “I got a few new commissions in,” He said, “A design for a carseat that massages you. Washing machines with legs. That kinda thing,” He turned back around, “Plus your standard swords, shields, the odd axe. Nothing new there. I’ll head down to the warehouse tomorrow and start working on those.”
“Don’t overwork yourself, amorsito.”
“I’ve had to take on a few extra stuff while you’ve been looking at jobs,” Leo said, “I’m the breadwinner in this household. We gotta pay bills somehow.”
As he talked, he began to fiddle with his hearing aid (He’d needed them ever since the explosion). Jason knew that he only did that when he was really agitated. He switched to ASL.
“Don’t play with that,” Jason signed.
“Sorry,” Leo signed back. He left the device alone and started fidgeting with his wedding ring- twisting it round and round, swapping it between fingers, spinning it on the table. Jason could tell something was wrong.
“What’s up?” He said in English.
“It’s nothing,” Leo replied.
“Querido…” Jason chided, “What is it?”
“It’s nothing… it’s-it’s silly, really. It’s not worth mentioning.”
Jason sat back on the sofa with his arms crossed, a patient expression on his face.
“Okay, fine! It’s just… something you said yesterday kinda… is still on my mind.”
Jason leaned forward, “What did I say, mi estrella?”
“You said… you know how we were talking about you getting a job? And how you wanted to make money to settle down for the future? Like- what did you mean by that, because it seemed like you meant…”
Leo trailed off, not making eye contact with Jason. He bounced his leg up and down so hard that the coffee table next to him was buzzing. He kept on passing his wedding ring between one hand and the other. He reached up to touch his ear again, but then he caught himself and quickly brought his hand down. He kept fidgeting with the ring.
“Do you… do you want kids, Jason?”
Jason was kind of taken aback by the bluntness of the question. He hadn’t meant to broach the whole subject of children to Leo. Not yet. But he’d been lying if he said the answer was anything other than yes, “Well… yeah, eventually. I mean, not right now, obviously, but someday. I’ve always imagined myself as a dad. And with Percy and Annabeth having their baby, and Nico and Will announcing that they’re Trying, it kinda got my head spinning a bit.”
Leo didn’t respond. His eyes were fixed on a spot on the wall in front of him. His leg was jiggling violently now.
“Why? Do you… not want kids?” Jason asked, a little scared to hear the answer.
“I don’t- I don’t know. I mean, I’ve never really seen myself as a dad. I’ve always thought I’d just have my machines. I guess… you don’t think the Roomba is enough, do you?”
Jason shook his head, “No, cariño… I don’t think a Roomba equates to having a child…”
“Why can’t we just be the cool gay uncles? Someone’s gotta do that now that Nico and Will are becoming parents.”
“We can do that, if you want,” Jason said, “But wouldn’t it be so cool to make our family bigger? I get it if you don’t want to bring a child into this world, but we could always adopt- don’t you want to give some poor kid a chance to have the home that you never got?”
There were ways for two male demigods to have biological kids- divine conception and all that. It took a lot of praying and sacrificing to the Gods, but if you were on their good side they’d allow it. That was the route Nico and Will had chosen. It wouldn’t be hard to get their approval- Hera definitely owed them one.
“But we’re demigods,” Leo said, “Life is dangerous for us. I don’t wanna put an innocent kid in harm’s way by inviting it into our lives.”
“I get that,” Jason said, “I really do. But we’re safe in New Rome. Lots of demigods raise families here.”
“I don’t know, Jason…”
“Okay. That’s fine. You don’t have to know everything right now.”
“But… but what if it turns out we want different things? What if I realise, years from now, that “actually no, I definitely don’t want kids” and you realise that “actually yeah, I really do” and then you divorce me for some girl named Tiffany, who has a really weird laugh like a cross between a hyena and a pig but she’s got this really fertile oven and she gives you triplets and I’m left to die alone, only talking to my machines and slowly going crazy? Huh, Jason? What then?”
Jason thought about that for a moment, “But that’s the thing- I don’t want to have kids with Tiffany. The only person I’d ever want to raise a child with is you, mi cielo. That’s who I want on my team. If you don’t want to, then I don’t want to either.”
“So… you’re not gonna leave me for Tiffany?”
“Listen to me, Leo, mi vida.” Jason grabbed Leo’s hand, and Leo’s leg stopped bouncing so much, “Tiffany’s not real. You made her up. And if she was, she sounds like a real bitch. No one compares to you.”
Leo nodded, “Thanks… I-I needed to hear that.”
“Come on,” Jason said, “I’m hungry. Let’s have dinner.”
“I’m cooking again? Man, I’m both the housewife and the breadwinner. What are you?”
The next few interviews were a bust. Eventually, Jason applied for a job as a Roman History professor at NRU.
He shifted in his seat as the interviewer scanned him up and down.
“Wow, I mean… you’re the Jason Grace!” She exclaimed.
“Jason Valdez, actually. I got married.”
“But still… You’re well known across all of New Rome. You slew the Trojan Sea-monster! You toppled the black throne of Kronos and slew the Titan Krios with your bare hands at fifteen! You played a pivotal role in the Second Giant War and helped to defeat Gaea! And again, fought to take down the Triumvirate. You’re an absolute legend!” She looked down at Jason’s resumé, “I don’t even need this. If you want the job, it’s yours.”
“I’d like to be given a fair chance, just like the rest.”
“Noble as ever,” She said, awestruck. She tapped the paper, “Well, this is still impeccable. Top grades at New Rome University. Praetor of the first legion. Pontifex Maximus. Twenty-four years of service in the Fifth Cohort. You’re fluent in Latin, Spanish, Ancient Greek, and American Sign Language. Glowing references from multiple gods. Yeah. You’re hired.”
“Really? Are you sure?”
“I mean, standard interview questions, yadda yadda yadda- why do you want the job?”
“Umm… well, I’d love to teach. I love being a role model, and supporting young people. And I love Roman History. My husband always jokes about me becoming a Professor.”
“Well you certainly are a role model,” The interviewer said, “Kids look up to you and the rest of the Seven from the Prophecy. You’re heroes to them. It would honestly be a privilege to have you as part of our faculty, and really help the students feel like they can achieve things.”
“That’s… that’s great to hear.”
The interviewer grinned, and stretched out her hand for Jason to shake, “Term starts in September. Welcome to the team.”
“Gah!”
The yelp woke Jason up. He stirred, and saw Leo sitting up in bed, hugging his arms to his chest, drenched in sweat and shivering.
“Leo…?” Jason grumbled. He sat up, and wrapped his arms around Leo’s shoulders. Leo drew in a shaky breath. “What is it?” He made sure to whisper it close to Leo’s good ear, since Leo had taken off his hearing aid before bed.
“N-Nothing… bad dream… go back to sleep.”
Jason moved his arms so that he was now gripping Leo’s shoulders, gently but firmly.
“Mi alma, you’re shaking.”
“…It’s cold.”
“You’re basically a human radiator, Leo. You don’t get cold,” Leo’s skin was hotter than usual, which was saying something. It felt like a toaster that had just been switched off.
Leo stopped digging his nails into his arms and held his hands out in front of him, as if making sure they were really there.
“Did you have another flashback?” Jason asked.
“I… I…”
“The night you died?”
Leo nodded, his breathing was still choked and choppy.
“It’s okay, Leo. You’re alive. You’re here. You’re safe. And I love you, mi vida, mi preciosa vida.”
“I’m… I’m alive,” Leo repeated. He looked again at his hands, studying the lines on his palms, “I’m alive.”
Jason moved again, this time hugging Leo’s middle, squeezing it tightly. Leo let out a sob.
Leo put a hand over his heart, like he needed to remind himself that it was still beating. He closed his eyes, and let out a long breath. He seemed to compose himself a little.
“It’s okay…” Jason whispered, although he wasn’t sure Leo could hear him without his hearing aid- he was completely deaf in his right ear, and had chronic tinnitus in his left, a small side-effect of blowing up.
Leo’s breathing was still irregular and shaky, but Jason could feel his heart slow, and his temperature cool down.
“Leo?” Jason asked, after a while.
“Hmm?”
“Is it me, or… are the night terrors… getting worse?”
Leo hesitated, then nodded. “It’s happening most nights, now. I can usually sleep through them, but…”
“Is it just that night, or…”
“No, mi sol. It’s other stuff. Trauma is trauma-ing.”
Jason unwrapped his arms from Leo’s waist and shuffled forwards, so they were sitting side-by-side, cross-legged on the bed.
“Talk to me, bello.”
Leo looked at Jason in that sad way Jason had come to know. It broke his heart a little every time he saw the pain in Leo’s eyes.
“It’s… it’s hard, mi estrella. My life did end that day. And while I’m so, so happy that I got it back… it’s hard to process what happened. That’s what I think the dreams are for- my brain trying to process it all. But… it’s hard. Because, for a moment, the blood lay still in my veins. My heart stopped beating. It’s hard to imagine busy old me lying dead, but…”
“You haven’t slowed down since then,” Jason observed, “And you never did before that. Your whole life- both of them- you’ve spent them constantly moving, never staying still. If you didn’t even stop in death, then when will you?”
Leo sighed, and fidgeted with the fabric of the bedsheets.
“I think your body is telling you it’s time to rest, amor mio,” Jason told him, “You’ve worked so hard. You deserve a break.”
Leo’s shoulders began to shake with another round of silent tears. He buried his face in Jason’s neck, and Jason wrapped his arms around his body. He had to admit, seeing Leo like this scared him. He was one of the strongest, bravest people he knew- to see him reduced to shaking tears, clawing at invisible scars, weeping, curled in Jason’s arms…
Some horrors in this cruel world were too much to handle. And Jason wasn’t sure how much help his comfort actually gave. He was helpless to fight those inner demons for Leo.
So much for “Respected Roman Warrior”, Jason thought, So much for all the medals, all those titles, all that honour.
The person he loved was sobbing into his chest, and Jason was powerless to stop it. All he could do was stroke Leo’s hair, and tell him everything would be alright. He should be doing more- fighting monsters, killing something- but some monsters you just can’t fight. All Jason could do was hold him.
“… Jason?” Leo whimpered, after a while.
“Yes, mi luna?”
“Are you… are you gonna leave me one day?”
Jason cupped Leo’s face in his strong, calloused hands, holding his everything out in front of him on the bed. He rolled forwards on his knees to kiss his forehead.
“I made a vow, remember?” He whispered, “I stood up in front of all our friends and family, in front of several gods and goddesses, and I promised to be yours forever. And you did the same. Do you remember that?”
Leo looked down so that his nose dug into the heel of Jason’s outstretched hands. “I remember. I know we did, but-”
“Hey! Hey- look at me-“ Jason tilted Leo’s head up, so his brown eyes sparkled in the low light of the street-lamps outside, “Have I ever broken a promise?”
“No…”
“There, then it’s settled. I vowed to love you ‘til I die, and I vowed to keep loving you beyond that. Come what may. And I am nothing if not a man of my word. And I know you are too.”
“I am,” Leo agreed, “I really do love you, Jason.”
“I love you too, amour mio.”
Leo still shivered from the fright of the nightmare. Jason held him close, until Leo eventually began to snore. Jason stayed awake, watching Leo breathe, watching his face twitch as he dreamt, his eyes moving under his lids. They stayed like that until the sun rose.
Another sleepless night- but they were still together at the end of it.
September came, and with it Jason’s first day at work.
Jason unlocked the door to his office and walked inside. It was a small rectangular room- nothing special. But the plaque on the front of his desk read Prof. J. Valdez, embossed in imperial gold lettering. Jason smiled at it.
He walked over to his computer monitor and sat down. He took out his briefcase, and began setting items down on the desk. It took him a while to arrange everything in a way that he wanted, but once he was done he stood back and admired his handiwork.
The framed photo of him and Leo on their wedding day, Leo blushing bright red when Jason had kissed him. The little trinkets Leo had made him over the years. A miniature Festus (deactivated). A Rubik’s cube that shuffled and solved itself periodically. Metal flowers in metal flower pots that actually bloomed whenever Jason walked into the room, and closed up when he left. More pictures of them and their friends. Jason and Leo with Piper hanging out at Camp Half-Blood. Double-dates with Nico and Will in New Rome. All of them with Percy and Annabeth’s new baby taken just after they’d brought her home from the hospital. Jason loved all these things. He loved that he could keep them on his desk, to remind everyone that came into his office that he was in love with Leo Valdez.
Just for good measure, he hung a few more photographs of Leo on the walls, and more little handmade creations on his shelves. He couldn’t help it- Leo always made him around seventy thousand little gadgets every Christmas, birthdays, and random Tuesdays. Their apartment was already filled to bursting with these affectionate little gifts. Did Jason really need fifty new forks? Not necessarily, but they were beautifully crafted and he loved them. His pockets were filled with Leo’s little gizmos, all lovingly made and thoughtfully designed. He wouldn’t trade it for the world.
He got to his lecture hall early, and began setting up, plugging in his laptop and pulling up the powerpoint. He’d created a little “get to know me” slide that new teachers often made- complete with yet more pictures of Leo.
He sat down at his desk and sighed.
Jason studied the tattoo on his arm. SPQR stamped on the skin and twenty-four lines all beneath an eagle symbol. That was nothing new. But fresher ink glistened. Next to the eagle, in iridescent gold was a hammer. Surrounding the symbols, also in gold, were three thinly-drawn concentric circles. Other couples chose different designs, but Jason had wanted this one. The hammer, the symbol of Vulcan, showed his union with Leo, and the merging of their families. If they ever had kids, they would also have those symbols, as they would be a legacy of both Hephaestus and Jupiter. The rings around the symbols represented years of marriage. Leo had a similar tattoo- his hammer in the standard black and his eagle in gold encircled in a thick black ring before the thinner gold ones to show that he married into the legion. The tattoo, of course, had been Leo’s idea.
Students began to drip in.
“Is this Roman History with Professor Valdez?” A student asked.
Jason must have grinned a little too hard, because the kid looked a little freaked out.
“Yes. Yes it is.”
He couldn’t help it. It was one of his favourite things ever, to hear his new name. Sometimes, when he was alone, he’d just say it to himself, over and over “Jason Valdez, Jason Valdez, Jason Valdez, Jason Valdez.” Even after he’d been married to Leo for three years, he never got tired of it. And oh! To hear others say it too made him elated beyond description. That’s one of the reasons why he loved the idea of becoming a teacher. He’d get to be referred to as “Professor Valdez” every day. He’d never get used to it in the best way possible.
Once everyone had settled into their seats, he stood up.
“Hello, everybody! My name is Professor Valdez, and I will be your Roman History teacher for most of your time here.”
“LEONIDAS JAVIER VALDEZ!”
“Uh oh,” Leo muttered. “What is it, amorsito??” He called in a sing-song voice from the other room.
“DON’T YOU AMORSITO ME!! COME HERE!”
Jason knew Leo would be reluctant to move, “Are you sure, mi luna? Can’t you come out here and tell me?”
“COME. HERE.”
Jason heard groaning, and Leo appeared in the door.
“Jason Sebastian Valdez,” Leo said, leaning against the doorframe, trying to act as causal and innocent as possible, “What’s up, amor mio?”
“What the fuck is this???” Jason roared.
He gestured to the room. Every inch of every surface- the bed, the floor, the side tables, the windowsill, the top of the wardrobe- was covered with bits of machinery. Copper wiring, bronze plates, circuit boards, pipes, pistons, batteries, scrap metal, plywood, spanners, screwdrivers, discs, spheres, et cetera, et cetera, et-fucking-cetera.
“What's all this junk doing here?” Jason demanded.
“First of all, chiqui, not junk. Second, a certain, ummm… father-in-law of mine took out the power of my workshop in one of his tantrums. Didn't I tell you?"
"No. Why would he do that?"
"Well, a certain father-in-law of yours pissed him off."
Jason sighed and up at the ceiling, “What did he do this time?”
Leo shrugged. “I dunno. God stuff. And tu padre is taking it out on me!”
Jason tapped his foot in annoyance and surveyed the room, “Did you have to do this in the bedroom?”
Leo shrugged again.
“Leo, mi amor, you gotta tidy this- hey, are you listening?”
Leo had turned away.
“Did you just turn off your hearing aid? Are you kidding me?”
No response. Jason tapped Leo on the shoulder and switched to ASL.
“This needs to be tidied up.”
Leo closed his eyes. Jason stamped his feet in frustration. Leo grinned, his eyes still closed.
Jason grabbed Leo’s shirt and pulled him into a quick kiss. Then he put a hand on Leo’s shoulder, and furiously tapped out a message in morse code.
“TIDY. NOW.”
“Umm… No hablo ingles.” Leo said.
Jason tapped out the same message, this time in Spanish.
Leo groaned again, “Fiiiinee,” He grumbled, “You got me. I’ll do it.” He opened his eyes and switched his hearing aid back on.
“What are you building, anyway?”
Leo sighed, “Typical children of Dionysus, god of theatre, to want a door that only opens if you scream “Veronica! open the, open the door please!” with the rage of a thousand daddy issues.”
“…and you can make that?”
“Well, I’m worried they’ll kill me with drain cleaner if I don’t.”
Leo started to shift piles of materials. Jason started to head to the door, then paused and said, “I’m sorry I called your stuff junk. You’re right. It’s not junk.”
“S’okay, bello. I forgive you.”
Jason kissed him on the cheek, then left the room.
Jason booted up the powerpoint and froze. He had forgotten what was on that lesson plan. The name on the title slide hit him like a brick, almost knocking the air from his lungs.
He could do this. It was fine, he could do this.
He stood up in front of the lecture hall and cleared his throat.
“G-Gaius Caesar Augustus Germanicus. A powerful Roman Emperor, known more commonly as C-“ His voice cracked, “… as Cal-“ Jason gripped the edge of the desk, and tried to blink away the sting in his eyes. Flashbacks shot through his mind, but he pushed them away. He swallowed, “Caligula,” He choked out.
Jason could still feel the impression his gladius left in his palm as he gripped it. He could still remember Caligula’s snarl as Jason approached.
“You’re one of those Camp Jupiter brats, aren’t you?”
“I’m Jason Grace,” he said, “Former praetor of the Twelfth Legion. Son of Jupiter. Child of Rome. But I belong to both camps.”
“Good enough,” Caligula growled, advancing slowly towards him, “I’ll hold you responsible for Camp Jupiter’s treason tonight.”
Jason tried to pull himself back to the present.
“He reigned f-from 37AD to 41…” He gripped the desk harder, his knuckles turning white, and forced down the bile that was rising in his throat.
A blur of memories, flashes of swords and fighting.
He remembered parrying Caligula’s spear with his gladius, every move costing him more and more energy. His muscles were weakening. He’d expended so much energy controlling the winds and the lightning.- he wasn’t sure how much longer he could keep up the fight.
“Get out of here!” he called to his friends. “Go!”
“Umm… Professor Valdez?” A voice called, “Are you alright? You look-“
Jason’s ears were ringing. His vision was spinning. He blinked, and tried to bring the world into focus. His eyes fixed on something in the haze. A face, on a photograph. It was Leo’s face, in the home-screen of Jason’s laptop. A picture of them on a picnic date last fall. Jason took a deep breath and straightened up.
“Yeah… I’m- I’m fine,” he managed. He turned back to the projector screen, “Ca-Caligula’s empire stretched across-“ suddenly, he stumbled, and steadied himself on the desk. His head swam.
Pain shot up his left thigh. He glanced down, and saw an arrow sprouted from it. Jason grunted and stumbled. Piper yelled in warning as Caligula charged again. He just managed to roll aside. He remembered grabbing at the air, summoning Tempest with what strength he could spare. He rode against Caligula atop the ventus’ back, jousting sword versus spear. Another arrow took him in the upper arm.
He could feel the distinct acidic taste of vomit in his throat. “Ex- excuse me, class,” He blurted out, and rushed out of the hall.
“I told you this isn’t a game!” yelled Caligula. “You don’t walk away from me alive!”
Below, an explosion rocked the ship. The room was cloven further apart. Jason was bleeding from arrows in each limb now, yet raised his sword in defiance all the same. They circled one another on their horses in the cramped space, trading blows. Incitatus kicked at Tempest with his golden-shod front hooves. The ventus responded with bursts of electricity that scorched the stallion’s white flanks. The air was charged with electricity. He jabbed furiously at the Emperor, slashing like a Greek while Caligula stabbed like a Roman.
Through the fighting, he glimpsed Apollo across the room, standing dumbstruck next to Piper.
He managed to make it to the staff toilets and proceeded to dry-heave over the bowl. His pulse throbbed in his veins. His vision was a blur.
Jason had decided. Piper McLean would not die tonight. Apollo, Meg, all the others… they must live too. Keep fighting for what was right.
And then he thought about Leo.
As Caligula and he jousted around the ruins, knowing he was close to death, he thought about his best friend.
He thought about Leo putting his life before Jason’s to complete the prophecy- dying before Jason could stop him. He thought about the Oracle telling him his fate, and his one consolation being that he might re-unite with Leo in Elysium.
But Leo was alive. And Jason wouldn’t see him again.
He thought about that pointed face, those busy eyes, that sparkling smile. He thought about Leo, covered in scratches and scorch-marks. Tiny Leo, with his impish grin and his tooth gap and his excited bouncing. He thought about the Leo he had seen defeating a Primordial Goddess, that determination, the acceptance. He thought about the many hardships Leo had escaped, how he could face anything and pull through. As Jason fought, he thought about that brilliant, annoying, funny, tragic, genius, terrified, beautiful man- the many sides of him forming something wonderful. Something… human.
After growing up nothing but a soldier, meeting Leo had taught him for the first time how to be a person. Be human.
He met Apollo’s eyes across the ruined throne room.
“GO!” He yelled, “Remember!”
Remember what it’s like to be human.
These feelings replayed in Jason’s mind as he was brought back to that night. Everything he thought of in his final moments, before pain shot up from the middle of his chest, and everything went black.
He stayed there, hunched over the basin of the hollow throne, retching and blinking back tears. The memories began to dissipate, and Jason could think clearly again. Eventually, after much gagging, nothing came out. He flushed anyway, and sat back against the wall of the bathroom stall, breathing hard and shaking. With trembling fingers, he fished out his phone and dialled a number. It was demigod-safe… mostly. Leo had found a way to scramble the signal using modern VPN technology, but the longer you used it the more dangerous it got. It was for emergencies only.
The phone rang twice before Leo picked up.
“You’ve reached the line for the Greatest Husband in the Cosmos, how may I help you?”
“H-… H-help…” Jason repeated.
Leo’s tone instantly changed. “Jason? Jason, baby, what’s wrong? Mi vida, talk to me.”
“I… I need…”
Jason heard panicked clattering over the phone.
“Where are you? Stay there, I’ll find you. Are you at work? Are you safe? Jason, come on, say something.”
“I c-c-…. Ca-… I’m…” Jason swallowed, and listened to the sound of Leo on the other end of the phone, cursing in Spanish under his breath, the unmistakable sound of a frustrated ADHD demigod searching for his keys in a cluttered machine shop. It was a very familiar sound to Jason. He knew it well, and that calmed him. He took a deep breath, “I’m- I’m safe. I’m at New Rome University, I’ll meet you out front, l-lemme just…”
“I’ll be there in ten minuites, okay?” Leo said, “Don’t panic, I’m here. I’ve gotta hang up now, but I’m coming, don’t worry. Just… just hang in there, ‘til I can get to you. I’ll be there as quick as I can, you hear?”
“Y-yes. Okay.”
“Love you. See you in ten.”
“Love you.”
Jason watched Leo’s name blink off the screen. He took a few deep breaths, then unlocked the bathroom stall door.
He didn’t remember waking up on that California beach. He didn’t really remember much of the quest that followed.
The first thing that was clear in his mind was Leo’s face at that Santa Monica airport, grinning as he hopped off Festus’ back. He remembered rushing towards him, burying his face in that warm smell of motor oil and woodsmoke. He remembered laughing. He remembered smiling. Nothing else mattered in that moment. They were together at last.
But flashbacks and nightmares of that fight still haunted him.
On his way out to the front entrance, Jason stopped by the reception area and arranged to have a sub cover his class for the rest of the day. Then he walked out, taking in the fresh air.
He watched as Leo’s massive modified vintage Ford pick-up truck pulled into the drop-off zone. The passenger-side door opened to show Leo at the wheel, his face knotted with concern. Jason hopped inside and shut the door, sighing with relief as the air con blasted his face from the dashboard.
Leo seemed to read the situation instantly. He didn’t ask Jason what had happened. He didn’t smother him with soothing words. He just slapped the steering wheel of the truck (which was twice the size of his torso) and said, “Right. Ice cream?”
They ate their ice cream in the back of Leo's pick-up, parked on temple hill, looking out over the city. Leo had a scoop of lemon sorbet in a pot (he couldn’t have ice cream in a cone- it would melt in his hands and drip down the side before he could finish it. He needed a pot to catch the drips). Jason had a strawberry double-cone with white chocolate sprinkles and a flake.
"So..." Leo began.
"Nope," Jason said, "Don't wanna talk about it. Tell me about your machines."
Leo suddenly brightened, "I got this commission in from a mysterious outsider. Those are always the best."
“Oh?” Jason said, turning his head to lick a drip off his ice cream cone.
“It was an order for delivery. The guy was weird. He was a demigod, but he didn’t seem Greek or Roman.”
Jason was dimly aware that children of gods from other pantheons existed, but he didn’t cross paths with them very often.
“Anyway, it’s posing some interesting challenges, working with different metals, using different styles of metalwork. I’m learning a lot.”
“Sounds fun. Tell me more.”
Leo went on about the new techniques he’d discovered, and how it’s been improving his skill. Jason listened. He loved hearing Leo info-dump about his interests. If anything, it took his mind off old emperor booties. He loved the way Leo’s voice changed, his words slurring with eagerness as they spilled out of his mouth, his hands moving animatedly as he talked, flapping when he got excited. He loved how his curly hair bounced as Leo rocked backwards and forwards on the balls of his feet enthusiastically.
Jason bit off the last of the ice cream at the top, leaving only plain waffle-cone left. He wanted to eat it, but gave it to Leo instead to have with his sorbet. They both knew that the cone was the best bit of the ice cream.
They kept talking until the sun went down and the sky became bright with stars. Jason rested his head on Leo’s shoulder and yawned.
“Come on, sleepyhead. Let’s drive you home,” Leo said, nudging him affectionately.
Jason nodded, drowsily.
The car ride home was in comfortable silence. Leo kept his eyes on the road, but snuck glances at Jason sitting sleepily in the passenger seat.
“Thank you,” Jason said, “For turning a shitty day into a wonderful one.”
Jason explained everything that had happened in the lesson, running out and almost throwing up in the bathroom.
Leo listened in patient silence, his gaze locked on the sprawling city streets in front of them
"I'm sorry, Leo..." Jason said, "I'm moaning about almost dying when you actually did die, it's not-"
"Hey. Whoa. No. This isn't a competition. I don't wanna make you feel like you can't talk to me because my pain and sadness is more painful and sad than yours. You're hurting, I help. That's the deal. That's what I vowed to do. And you do the same for me. No matter what that hurt is, we support each other, capiche?"
Jason nodded, "Capiche. You're right. I'm sorry."
“What are you sorry for, mi estrella?” Leo asked, calmly.
“I… I don’t know…” Jason admitted.
“Exactly,” Leo said. And the matter was settled.
They slipped back into sleepy, non-verbal company until they made it back to their apartment.
Leo kept a little stool next to the forges, which was known only as “Jason’s chair”. Jason often sat, watching Leo stoke the flames. He loved to sit there and see him turning over coals with his bare hands, or working away at his desk next to it. Sometimes Jason got out his laptop and wrote lesson plans while Leo worked. Sometimes Jason helped- if just to be a human spark plug. Sometimes he just sat and observed. They would talk, or sing songs, or just work in silence.
“What’re you working on?” Jason asked from his chair.
Leo rubbed the back of his neck, “I’ve just finished the commission by those Dionysus kids. Hope they like it.”
He picked up his drink and sniffed it, obviously checking for drain cleaner. “I’m now working on a self-playing harp to add ambiance to the temple of Apollo,” He glanced at Jason and smiled, “The one that you re-designed on temple hill.”
He turned back to his blueprint, muttering to himself. Jason watched as he drew long lines across the page with his craftsman’s ruler. Leo touched a button on his hearing aid, and turned up a dial on a small radio in front of him on his desk. He’d rigged up his hearing aid to connect to it via bluetooth, so that he could listen to music as he worked.
The doorbell rang, and Leo opened it. He was greeted with a knife to the throat. He grinned.
Jason sat perfectly still on his stool, watching as Leo poured over his notebooks, nodding his head slightly along with the music in his ears. In their silence, he could just about hear the tinny voice of the music coming from the device. It sounded like Taylor Swift. It probably was.
“How’s my favourite sister-in-law?”
“Your reflexes could be sharper,” Thalia said in response, then she lowered her knife and pulled him into a tight hug. When they broke apart, and she saw Jason standing there, she grabbed him and squeezed him so fiercely Jason thought she might crack a rib.
“Food is on the stove,” Leo announced, “Should be ready in about half an hour. If Piper hasn’t already helped herself to it all.”
“When did McLean get here?” Thalia asked.
“She stayed overnight to sleep off the jet-lag,” Jason explained, then he clapped his hands together, “But now we’re all here, should we do presents?”
Leo shook his head, “Nah, man. Food first. Keep ‘em waiting. That’s how my mom did it. I’ll go see to the kitchen, you guys talk or something. It’ll only be another twenty minutes or so, anyway.”
After a very hearty Christmas dinner cooked by the notoriously skilled Chef Leo, they got to work passing round presents.
Leo had organised them into four little piles, and they took turns opening one present each.
Except there was one slight problem-
Jason had about five million more presents than everyone else. All a variety of sizes and shapes, all wrapped in the same bronze (recyclable) wrapping paper.
Leo didn’t seem to think this was an issue (“I may have made you a few more presents than what we agreed was the limit! So what?”), but Thalia and Piper were exchanging glances, worried they’d have to sit there and watch while Jason unwrapped each one individually and was subjected to a long explanation by Leo as to every device’s multiple functions. To make things go a little faster, they agreed to let Jason unwrap five presents per round instead of the usual one.
Was Jason complaining about how thoughtful his husband was? Fuck no. He loved it. He was gonna put a lot of these in his office when he got back to school.
Leo was first in the circle. Thalia got him a collection of various hides from monsters she had slain. Most of them were still fresh. Leo immediately grabbed a notebook and wrote down some ideas for contraptions he could use them in.
Jason was next. Leo had made him: A picture frame that unlocked and opened up into a shaving mirror, one of those ballerina jewellery boxes with a dancing Festus (Jason didn’t wear jewellery), a large polaroid camera that videoed and printed out Leo’s scroll holograms (“scrollograms!”), a key ring embossed with the words “te amo”, and an airbed pump.
“I thought we could try camping!”
“Leo, do we own a tent?”
Leo glanced nervously at a box-shaped present at the bottom of Jason’s pile.
Piper was next. Jason got her tickets to see Chappell Roan for the three of them. She actually teared up and flung herself into his arms. Leo bounced up and down and flapped his hands, squealing excitedly.
Leo had gotten Thalia the same thing he did every year- a bottle of Texas Hot Sauce.
They went round the circle a few more times, until they had a large pile of gifts next to them.
Alongside his animal pelts, Leo received 50 drachmas towards his Eras Tour Fund, a collection of more notebooks, and The Tortured Poets Department on CD from Jason (“So you don’t have to keep streaming it while you work and attract monsters to the workshop.”). He got another 75 to the Eras Tour Fund from Piper, and various tools from his wishlist. She also got him what looked like a dog coat, but it was fifty times the size.
“It’s for Festus!” She explained, “In case he gets cold in the winter!”
Piper received a customised surfboard from Leo, complete with badass (totally safe) modifications. She also got a large set of different-sized hunting knives from Thalia.
Jason got several thousand more gifts from Leo, which took up most of the sofa and the coffee table. Piper got him one of those fluffy oversized “oodies” that were all the rage online. It was blue, with a large superman logo on the front. Jason argued that he didn’t need to be any warmer than he already was, sleeping next to Leo. Somehow he still found himself buried in it anyway, the hood pulled down over his eyes, just enough so he could see. Thalia got him a framed photo of the two of them when Jason was just a baby.
“Where… where did you find this?” He asked, looking at the photograph, stunned.
“I have my ways,” She remarked, nonchalantly.
Piper had got Thalia a new leather jacket.
“Another one?” Jason asked, “You’ve got loads!”
Thalia shrugged, “All my old ones got blood on them.”
Lastly, Jason handed his gift to Thalia. She opened up the small rectangular box, and pulled out a hunting dagger. She unsheathed it, and examined it. It was hammered a little out of shape, and the blade was warped.
“I’m assuming this wasn’t made by the OG Valdez?” She asked, glancing at her brother.
Jason looked a little sheepish. Leo rubbed his back, reassuringly. “Your metalwork’s getting better, chiqui. It’s good! You can’t help the fact that you’re married to one of the best and most advanced weaponsmiths in the Greco-Roman pantheon. But it’s good work.”
Thalia gave him a sisterly kiss on the cheek. “I love it. Thank you.”
Jason gave her a tight, one-armed hug.
“I actually have something else for you,” Thalia said to him.
“Oh?”
“It’s not a gift, exactly just… news.”
“Good news?” Leo asked.
Thalia neither confirmed nor denied this, just said: “I got a call from someone a couple weeks ago. Our cousins. On our mom’s side. I met them a couple of times as a kid but mom blipped off the radar once she was expecting you. They’d found out I was still out there recently and wanted to get back in touch. They didn’t know about you. I didn’t tell them. I said I’ll think about it, but honestly? I want nothing to do with them. I don’t want to be associated with anything to do with Mom, after what she did to you. And anyway, it’ll be a bitch to explain to them why I still look sixteen. But I thought it was only right you should know, in case you were interested in getting to know them.”
Jason was a little speechless. He’d never really considered the fact that he might have extended family out there. Other Graces. He wasn’t sure what to do. That didn’t bother him though. When he wasn’t sure about something, he’d talk it through with Leo. They’d figure it out together.
Family games began. After a rather violent round of charades, cut short by the fire alarm being set off by someone who will remain nameless, they decided on karaoke.
“KNEE-DEEP IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AND YOURE EATING ME OUT-“ Leo and Piper screamed in unison, using the deodorant bottle and the TV remote as fake microphones. They’d moved the coffee table out the way and the two of them were now singing their hearts out in the middle of the living room while Jason and Thalia watched from the couch.
Jason glanced nervously at a vase that was getting dangerously close to Leo’s flailing arms. Maybe Karaoke hadn’t been the best idea.
Piper was yelling furiously into her deodorant bottle, eyes closed, giving her best theatre-kid belt.
Leo was on his knees, screaming at the top of his lungs.
“FUCKED YOU IN THE BATHROOM WHEN WE WENT TO DINNER, YOUR PARENTS AT THE TABLE, YOU WONDER WHY I’M BITTERRRRR- hey! Hey, Jason! Do you think me and Piper should start a band? No, but really? I’ve already picked out our name, we’d be called “Piping Hot!” I think we should do it. Piper? Should we do it?”
“I married that man,” Jason reminded Thalia.
“Y’know, we did ask Chappell Roan if she wanted to join the hunters,” Thalia remarked.
Piper spun around so fast she almost wacked Leo in the face, “Ohh my gods tell me EVERYTHING.”
“This was before I joined,” Thalia said, “And she said no. But she still invites Lady Artemis to her concerts sometimes.”
Piper shoved herself in between the two siblings on the sofa, and began bouncing up and down in excitement as Thalia told stories of all the amazing women who have been asked to join the hunters over the years.
Jason, feeling a little crowded, stood up from the couch and went into the bedroom.
He groaned and rubbed his temples. Soon, he felt hands creep from his waist and hug him around the middle. Leo leaned his warm body into him, and rested his chin on Jason’s shoulder.
“Hmm…You okay?” Leo mumbled.
“Yeah…” Jason stayed in Leo’s embrace for a few seconds, then pulled away, leaning against the dresser.
Leo leaned next to him, sighing and folding his arms.
“You still thinking about what Thalia said? About your cousins?”
“Yeah…” Jason said, again. He turned to him, “What do you think I should do?”
Leo was silent for a few moments. “I dunno…”
“You have family, don’t you?” Jason asked.
Leo’s shoulders tensed slightly. Jason could see his expression become a little guarded, which hardly happened to Jason anymore. But biological family was a touchy subject for both of them. “Yeah. Lots.”
“Do you… ever think about getting back in touch? After everything that’s happened-“
Leo shook his head vigorously, “Nuh-uh. No way. I think it’s safe to say I don’t have the best experience with my extended family. My own cousins? They used to beat me up for being weird and skinny. I don’t owe those people a gods-damned thing.” He looked down, sadly, “And anyway, I tried… once. Chiron told me, after the fight with Gaea, that he called them to tell them I was dead. They just… didn’t care. My Aunt yelled at him for disturbing her and hung up the phone.”
“That’s horrible!”
Leo shrugged, “I don’t need them. I got you guys.” He glanced fondly through the open doorway of their room, over at Piper and Thalia, who were watching Mean Girls on the sofa (they both had a crush on Regina George), “You’re all the family that I need.”
“Still… there’s something to be said for finding your roots. Your blood. Could be a community there.”
Jason had spent his whole life trying to find where he fit. Camp Jupiter, Camp Half-Blood, on the Argo II, in the mortal world. He’d eventually found his place, with Piper and Leo. But that didn’t mean he couldn’t expand his people. His pack. If his relatives genuinely cared about him, and wanted to meet him…
Leo ran his hands through his hair, “Yeah… I get why some people think blood is important. But not for me. I love my mom because she raised me, not because she gave birth to me. You and Piper… you’ve showed me more love and kindness than the people that are s’pposed to take care of me. You’re my family.” He paused, then added, “But hey, I mean… If finding your blood relatives is what you need to do, then do it.”
“Plus,” Jason added, “If we ever have kids… hypothetically speaking… it might be nice for them to know their heritage.”
“It would…” Leo agreed, “But it’s not necessary.”
Jason sighed, “I don’t know why I’m getting all worked up about this. They don’t even know I exist yet. I guess I’ve sort of always had this fantasy of a nice, nuclear family structure. I know it’s stupid, but-“
“No, it’s not stupid!” Leo said, pulling away from the dresser and turning to face him, “If it’s something you want, then it’s something you want. It’s okay to want normalcy. Everyone has their own beliefs about what family should be. Yeah, it’s the template a western society pushes onto us, but that doesn’t make it inherently evil. It’s nice to want to know the people you’re related to. We’re pack animals- it’s in our nature,” he sighed, “Look. All I’m saying is I’ve done the whole “blood relatives” thing, and it didn’t work out for me, so I adjusted to live without it. Thalia didn’t want it either. That’s her choice. But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try.”
“But what if they’re shitty, like yours?”
“Then we just say fuck ‘em and we’ll go get ice cream.”
Jason rested his head on Leo’s shoulder, “You’re my favourite husband, did you know that? You’re just the best.”
Leo smiled, “And, if they’re really nice? Then… count yourself lucky, I guess. Not everyone can have that.”
“But you’ll have it,” Jason said, “Any family that is mine is yours now. If I get some shiny new family members then they’ll be yours, too. You might finally be accepted into a big clan of people.”
“That would be kinda nice,” Leo admitted, “But I’ll be happy either way. I’m happy just with you, bello. It is a wonderful dream, don’t get me wrong, and I love that you think it could happen. And I don’t wanna tell you to not get your hopes up, just… I dunno, I guess I find it hard to believe that a wider family like that could accept someone, love them unconditionally just because they share a few genes. But that reflects more about me than it says about you. I think you should go for it.”
“Really?”
“Yeah.”
Jason nodded to the open doorway, “Come on, let’s go back out there before they decide to make Fetch happen.”
Jason thought fondly back to a conversation they’d had a few years ago, during one of their sessions of sitting together in the workshop.
“Hey, hermoso?”
“Hmm?” Leo looked up from his sketches. Jason still remembered it now. It was summer, and hot. Leo had tied his hair back to keep it out of his face as he worked. His bronze hearing aid glinted in the low evening light. This was back before they were married, and Leo’s engagement ring twitched a little on Leo’s ring finger as he tapped on the desk.
“I-I was thinking… what if I… changed my name?”
Leo had put his pencil down and turned in his chair, so that he was facing Jason.
“What, like, Fernando Grace or something?”
“No, the, er… the last name. In marriage.”
“So… Grace-Valdez? Or… Valdez-Grace?”
Jason shifted on the seat of his stool. Leo’s amber-brown eyes watched him, noting every tender movement, twitch, and mannerism as Jason sat before him.
“Well… how about just Jason Valdez?”
Leo thought for a moment. “You sure Fernando is off the table? Because I think-“
“Leo, I’m serious.”
“Sorry, I’m just uncomfortable with emotions,” Leo said, “That is… wow. It’s a lot to process… You’re really serious? Like, genuinely?”
“Yeah!” I mean… my mom was kind of a… a…”
“A bitch.”
“Yes. That. I’m perfectly fine with letting her name die out. I don’t really want to be associated with her, or-or what she’s done. But I want you to be a part of me. A part of my identity. I want to be a Valdez. If… If you’d let me.”
Leo’s expression was hard to read at first, Jason could see the cogs turning in Leo’s brain, thinking a million thoughts at once, but then he broke into a gigantic smile.
“Oh Jason! Of course! If you’re sure?”
“Yes,” Jason said, reaching out and taking both Leo’s hands in his, “I am sure.”

Jason walked into his office the first day back from Winter Break.
He sat down in his office chair, and booted up the PC monitor. While he was waiting for it to load, he sat back and surveyed everything on his desk. This was his morning ritual: count your blessings, you have a lot more than you used to.
His eyes fixed on a photograph. Him and Leo at the altar on their wedding day.
Thalia stood to the left in her Best Man’s suit. Percy, Nico, Will, and Reyna had all been groomsmen. Piper stood to Leo’s right as his Maid of Honour. Frank had refused to wear the bridesmaid’s dress that Leo had picked out, and instead settled for a dark blue tux that really did kind of suit him. He stood beside Hazel, just behind Piper. The entire Hephaestus cabin had been the bridal party (little Harley had been a very cute flower boy). Even Hephaestus himself was there, and had agreed to walk Leo down the aisle. Jupiter hadn’t shown. Figures. Jason had to admit that he’d hoped his father would be there, but it was wishful thinking. He didn’t dwell on it though- that day had been the happiest day of his life, he wasn’t going to let his deadbeat daddy ruin it for him.
They were married in June- the sacred month dedicated to Juno. In Roman times, this was meant to be good luck and a blessing on your marriage. While both Jason and Leo had a… complicated relationship with the goddess, they tried their best to keep things civil for the sake of the special day.
Jason had worn a traditional Roman toga. It was white with gold embroidery. Leo had, of course, designed that as well. He was amazing with a sewing machine.
Leo wore a well-fitted tuxedo. The fabric was enchanted to flicker red and gold- with flashes of white and blue, like hot flames. He called it “girl-on-fire core”. It was lined with dragon hide on the inside, making it fireproof.
Wreaths of violets and marigolds adorned the wedding arch. Jason held Leo’s calloused hands in his own, feeling the heat coming off of them in waves, like holding a mug of hot chocolate on a cold Christmas day.
Aphrodite stood next to them under the arch, officiating the wedding.
“Do you, Jason Grace, take Leonidas-“
Leo coughed.
“… Leo Valdez, to be your husband- wed in both mortal law and in the eyes of the gods? Do you, in front of all the people gathered here today, pledge to be true and devoted to him, to have and to hold for eternity? From this day forward, do you vow to be with him, for better for worse, for richer, for poorer, forever? In good times and bad, in sickness and in health, do you promise to love and honor him all the days of your life and beyond, never to part, even in death?”
Jason gripped Leo’s hands in his. He knew that the goddess Aphrodite was right next to him, but honestly? He didn’t give a flying fuck about her. And that was coming from the Flying Fuck himself. All he could look at was Leo. Leo was the most beautiful person in that room. He knew that would definitely displease the goddess, but Jason had given his whole life trying to serve the will of the gods. Now, he was creating a new life. With the phenomenal man in front of him.
Jason felt Leo’s fingers tapping against Jason’s palms where their hands were grasped. A familiar rhythm that Jason knew well. Two short taps. Short tap, long tap, two short taps. Three long taps. Three short taps and a long tap. Tap. Long tap, short tap, long tap, long tap. Three long taps. Two short taps, one long tap.
Jason grinned.
“I do.”
Maybe Aphrodite smiled then, Jason didn’t know. He was lost in Leo’s deep eyes, looking at him and him only.
“I really, really do.”

“Shit!” Jason whispered, as the fork fell to the ground with a loud clatter, “Shhh!” He told the fork, which probably didn’t help.
Leo was asleep on the in the living-room. He’d had another nightmare and had woken up in flames, scorching the duvet. After much consolation that no, Jason had not been hurt in the fire and that yes, it was just a dream, he had finally passed out curled in Jason’s arms, watching Frozen II on the sofa. That was at 5am.
It was now midday and Leo was still asleep. It was his day off, so Jason was currently trying to cook his husband breakfast. There was just one small issue…
Jason couldn’t cook.
He fussed about in their little kitchenette that led off their open-plan living/dining space, a Stand-Up Comedy Special on in the background, the volume down low so as not to wake Leo. He’d somehow managed to burn the avocado, meanwhile the hash-browns were still frozen cold in the middle. He was beginning to get super frustrated with this breakfast burrito. Why couldn’t he have just made cereal instead? But he wanted to do something nice for Leo, and thank him for all the times Leo had cooked.
“Fry bacon over medium heat until crispy,” Jason muttered to himself. As soon as he set the skillet down, the outlets sparked, causing the induction hob to short-circuit, the digital display blinking out. Jason tried several times, but it refused to switch back on. “Fine, be that way!” Jason snapped at the hob.
He didn’t really understand why Leo couldn’t just eat the bacon raw. Jason had been raised by wolves after all- he’d done it loads of times and had only gotten sick twice. But Leo loved food, especially good food. It reminded him of home, of his mother, and family gatherings where everyone all sat around the table good-naturedly, united by the meal enough to not yell at each other. Those mealtimes were the only happy memories Leo had of the family that had kicked him out on the streets and ruined his life. It was safe to say the other Valdezes had not been present at their wedding.
Jason thought back to his own upbringing. How his mom had been so drunk and zonked out that she’d forget to feed him and Thalia. Jason had been so hungry, he’d tried to eat a stapler. He knew Leo had had similar experiences on the streets, and, while Leo had never admitted it, that was probably one of the reasons why he was so short and skinny.
He’d gained a lot of weight since Jason had first seen him on that bus, which Jason was proud of. He imagined that he’d been even thinner before. He was glad to see Leo getting better, but part of him was still sad to see the damage it had done.
Jason wished he could cook. Maybe it was some primal wolf urge to look out for the runt of the litter, but also food was a comfort for Leo, and cooking was a love language to him. He wanted more than anything to make him good meals, see his face light up when he made him something.
“I’m not gonna fuck this up this time,” Jason muttered through gritted teeth. The thought of Leo’s proud expression when he showed off his culinary creation kept him going. He decided to light a small fire over the miniature brasier they kept on the countertop for offerings (scraped a bit of bacon and some sliced tomato into it, praying to Edesia, Roman goddess of Banquets for good luck) and decided to fry the bacon the old fashioned way.
Leo woke up at 1pm (Jason was glad he’d gotten at least the recommended eight hours of sleep). Jason immediately set the plate of burritos down on the coffee table in front of him, grinning eagerly.
Leo reached out and took the burrito, looking perplexed. He examined its contents, “You- you made this?”
“Yup.”
“You cooked?”
“Sure did.”
Leo glanced back at their kitchenette, as if checking for explosion marks. He sniffed the tortilla, cautiously. Jason sat on the edge of the armchair next to him, bouncing up and down a little on the cushion. He could almost imagine his tail wagging in anticipation.
Leo bit into the wrap, and his face lit up. “This is actually not bad! You’re getting better.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, querido. Es muy bueno. You can make this for me again.”
Jason beamed, proud of himself.
“Did you spend all morning on this?”
“I did. I wanted to do something special to cheer you up. I’m glad you like it.”
Leo took another bite. “Oh what a joy to wake up to!” He said, “You really are the best Husband ever.”
“I can’t be,” Jason said, “You exist.”

As the students filed out of the lecture hall, Jason turned and saw Leo leaning against the doorframe. He was dressed in his usual suspenders and tool belt, this time over a black button-up shirt. A clean one, which was unlike Leo. He looked surprisingly dashing with his freshly-washed hair and his brown Doc Martens. Several of Jason’s students had stopped to stare at him, whispering behind their hands. Jason watched as Leo produced a bouquet of violets and marigolds from the back pocket of his tool belt.
Jason walked forward and accepted them, then kissed him on the cheek.
“What’s the occasion, mi cielo?” Jason asked.
“No occasion,” Leo said, “I just love you.”
Jason spied a few of his students taking pictures on their phones.
“You better not be posting those online,” Jason told them, “If I get home to find a hoard of monsters raiding our apartment you’re all getting Ds, understand?”
They nodded. He turned back to Leo.
“There’s still some work I’ve gotta finish up,” Jason whispered.
“Me too,” Leo whispered back, “But… can we talk? Later?”
“Oh! Yes, of course,” Jason said. He could feel himself blushing. His students were staring at them, giggling.
Leo noticed them too. He switched to American Sign Language.
“Let’s go to that restaurant we like. I’ll meet you there at 8pm.”
“Fancy!” Jason signed, “Are you sure this isn’t a special occasion?”
Leo smiled. “I just wanna take you out! I have money, I’m allowed to take my husband out on a date! Just don’t be late. I’ll see you there.”
He gave Jason another peck on the cheek. “I gotta run,” He said, “But talk later, okay?”
“Okay!” Jason called, as Leo rushed off.
Jason stood there, agape, for a few seconds, before the excited whispers from the small crowd of students snapped him out of it.
“Gods, I hope that was his husband.” “He’s so skinny!” “I thought children of Hephaestus were supposed to be huge!” “And ugly, but he was kinda cute.” “No, guys, did you see he’s got, like, five million photos of him on his desk-“
Jason cleared his throat, and they stopped abruptly, “Yes, if you’re curious, that was Mr Valdez. No, I will not be taking further questions at this time. Umm… Class dismissed.”
The gaggle of students left, dragging their feet and sneaking glances back at Jason, talking in hushed whispers.
A little dazed, he made his way up to his office and walked inside. Jason realised he was still holding the bouquet of flowers Leo had given him. He walked over to his desk, emptied his half-drunk cup of tea, washed the mug out and filled it up with water (Leo often teased him for drinking tea. He said it made him look like a British Grandpa. But Jason liked it). He plopped the flowers in it, and sat down at his desk to grade papers.
The sun had set in the early january hours when he heard a faint rap on his door. He looked up. Standing nervously in the doorway was one of his quieter students, Joshua.
“Umm… Professor Valdez?” He asked in a small voice.
“What is it, Joshua?”
“Can- can I come in?”
Jason gestured for the kid to sit down in the chair facing his desk.
“I was- I was working on a project for my Greek Studies course, and we had to write about one difference between Roman and Greek society…”
“Yes…?”
“Well, I wanted to write about how Greeks viewed queer identity compared to the Romans? Because they, like, had fundamentally different views on gender and sexuality and it’s super interesting to me. I know you’re a Roman History professor but you’re also one of the only queer teachers I know, and you’re also just a really good teacher in general… I was wondering if you could help me?”
Jason signalled for him to shuffle over to his side of the desk. He pulled up a few websites on his computer, and began talk about examples of different Greek art that depicted men-loving-men relationships.
They talked for a while, but then Joshua interrupted, pointing to one of the photos on Jason’s desk. “Is that your husband?”
Jason picked up the picture and smiled, “Yes. That’s us at a wedding we went to last spring.” It had been Hazel and Frank’s wedding.
“Woah…” he whispered. He paused, then said, “You know, I’ve always looked up to you. I grew up hearing stories about the Seven demigods who sailed on the Argo II. You’re all huge inspirations.”
Jason nodded at the photograph, “I think so too, that’s why I married one.”
“What was it like… all those months sailing, facing all those terrible monsters?”
Jason remembered back to all those times he’d found Leo crying in the engine room, shivering after a particularly viscous monster attack, a nightmare, or another dirt-formed vision of Gaea. Those tearful nights spent consoling him.
“It… it was hard, especially seeing as we were just teenagers. But at least we had each other.”
Joshua looked at the Rubik’s cube with its self-shuffling sides, “Woah. Did he get you that?”
“He made it, actually. He is one of the best mechanics in the western hemisphere, after all.“
Jason picked it up, fondly, turning it over in his fingers.
The conversation carried on, drifting (as all good conversations do) to Sappho and her poetry. It wasn’t until Jason checked the clock that he realised the time.
“Shit, I gotta meet the Mister for dinner in fifteen minutes. Sorry, Joshua.”
He scribbled down the titles of a few books the kid could borrow from the library, and shouldered his bag. Joshua thanked him and left.
Jason picked up his keys and went to turn off the light. Before he left, he turned and looked at the flowers in the cup. Violets and marigolds. The same flowers they’d had at their wedding. Purple and orange, like the colours of Camp Half-Blood and Camp Jupiter. Leo had an appreciation for a good metaphor.
He turned out the light and left his office, locking the door behind him.
They were one of the first Greco-Roman couples to get married since the camps discovered each other. Their wedding had been a celebration of the merging of both sides. It was becoming more and more commonplace now, but they were in the early stages of creating new traditions between these partnerships.
Jason had always tried to do things a little differently. He’d never liked it when he was told he had to uphold all these “Roman Values” in order to be perfect. He didn’t want to have to fit in a mould. That’s one of the countless reasons why he loved Leo so much. Leo wasn’t perfect. He didn’t try to be. He faked smiles and confidence for survival, but he never stopped being so unapologetically himself while doing it. And when Jason was around him, he couldn’t care less about what people thought he should be. Leo made him a better person because of that.
- ⚡️ - 💍 - 🔥 - [ L+J] - 🔥 - 💍 - ⚡️ -
Jason thought back to their wedding day again.
He remembered their first dance, to the song “Fast Car” by Tracy Chapman. Jason stumbled over his feet a little as they danced. Later that night, Leo had torn up the dance floor doing the Macarena. Jason wondered how Leo had managed to go all night without bursting into flames.
Much parties and drinking ensued. Jason was swamped with guests, congratulating him. He made polite conversation with them all, and was so distracted he didn’t even realise that Leo had left the room.
He felt a quick surge of panic as he searched for him, but it soon subsided when he saw Leo out on the balcony of the wedding venue, looking out at the city. He’d taken off his jacket and it was folded on the rail next to him.
The relief gave way to concern, though, when he saw that Leo was on fire.
Jason walked over to him and leaned on the balcony railing next to him, just out of reach of the flames, “Long day?” He asked, trying not to show the worry in his voice.
“Good day,” Leo replied, smiling at him. Jason instantly relaxed.
“Sorry I left- just had to get away from the crowds and cool off,” Leo nodded at the suit jacket, flames licking his face, “That’s the last time I wear something with heat-suppressing polymers. I had to, for safety and all, but man… it was so stuffy. I felt like I couldn’t breathe.” Leo’s chest crackled quietly with the fire in the cool evening air, “Anyway, I needed to decompress. Let some of it out. “
“Understandable. It’s an emotional night.”
“I’m just so incredibly happy, Jason,” Leo said, “It’s hard to keep contained.”
Looking at Leo, Jason felt little zzzts of electricity buzzing through his hair. Yeah, he understood.
“Socialisation is exhausting,” Leo admitted, “Especially when you’re masking. Especially at an intense event like this. But don’t think I’m upset. I’m not. Just a little… overstimulated.”
Jason smiled, “I understand. Take all the time you need. Soon, though, we’ll be off on our honeymoon. Just you and I, alone together.”
Leo closed his eyes at the pleasure of the thought, “That would be nice.”
“Gods, I’m eager to get out of this toga. It’s itchy as heck.”
They exchanged a quick side-eye.
Jason sidled a little closer, careful to keep the fabric of his clothes out of reach of the flames. “I wish I could kiss you,” he said, frowning at the red fire brushing against Leo’s cheek.
“Hold your pegasi, lightning boy! We’re spending the rest of our lives together- there’ll be plenty of opportunities for you to kiss me, don’t you worry.”
“I guess you’re right,” Jason replied.
Leo softened, “Your company’s enough for me, amor mio. That’s all I need.”
Jason looked back at the open doorway, at the party in the venue behind them. “Well I should probably get back in there. They’ll be wondering where we are. If anyone asks, I’ll tell them you’re constipated.”
“How very dignified of you.”
Jason looked into Leo’s eyes, his brown irises turning orange in the glittering fire that wreathed his face, “I love you.”
“I love you, too.”
Jason went back into the building, looking back at his husband and smiling. Then he proceeded to rejoin the party.

Leo was waiting for him outside the restaurant. He now wore a black suit jacket over his black shirt and suspenders. Jason knew that it had been stolen from his wardrobe. Leo didn’t own many suits.
He’d chosen a table for two under the awning outside the restaurant. Jason kissed him on the cheek when he saw him and sat down across from him. A waitress came over and took their drinks order.
“Umm… Tea, please. Earl Grey.”
“Earl Grey?” Leo said, “That even sounds like a British Grandpa.”
Jason ignored him, “Milk, two sugars please.”
“Hey, whatever floats your trireme, man. And can I have the umm… the umm…” Leo clicked his fingers and scrunched up his face in concentration, “Come on, English!! The… frothy… cow… juice…”
“The what?”
Leo mimed a complicated charade of drinking a certain beverage, which Jason attempted to decipher.
“A… milkshake?”
Leo snapped his fingers and pointed at Jason, “Yes. That. See? I knew I married you for a reason.”
Jason shook his head in disbelief, “I apologise for… whatever that was,” He said to the waitress, “English isn’t his first language.”
“Shut up Valdez," Leo said.
Jason smiled.
The waitress flashed them her customer-service grin and left with their orders. Jason turned to Leo, his perfect Leo, sitting there across the restaurant table just looking perfect. Jason beamed at him.
"What?" Leo asked, upon seeing the cheesy expression on Jason's face.
"Nothing..." Jason said, "So what is it you wanted to talk about?"
Leo ran his hands through his hair. Even after all these years, he still knew how to take the breath out of Jason’s lungs.
“Umm… well, I was thinking hard about that conversation we had a couple months ago, I just haven’t been able to get it out of my mind since…”
“Leo, we’ve had a lot of conversations in the last couple months-“
“The one about having kids! I’ve been thinking…”
“Yes…?” Jason said, dreading what might come next.
“And I’ve decided,” Leo said, twisting the ring around his finger.
Jason held his breath.
“I wanna do it. I want to start a family. At some point. In the future. Not right now, but at some point.”
Jason actually jumped up from his seat. He hugged Leo.
“Oh, Leo, that’s so good to hear!!!”
“Yeah, well… I love you. And I guess, as the son of the God of Creation… I want to create something. With you. Something more than just a Roomba,” he sighed, “I’m not good with organic life forms, but that’s what we do, isn’t it? We face challenges together. We don’t always do things in our comfort zone, but ultimately we risk it for what it’s worth at the end… I dunno, I’m getting cheesy.”
Jason smiled, “I love your cheesiness, Leo.”
Just then, the waitress came back with their drinks and took their dinner orders. Once she left, Jason turned back to Leo.
“You know,” Jason joked, “Since I actually didn’t die fighting Caligula, I’ve always wondered what the Sibyl meant by I will “three letters, starts with D”. I’m guessing, since we re-united after the fight it meant things would eventually lead to “Dad”.”
“Or you’ve been dead this whole time, and this is a delusional Elysium dream,” Leo said in a monotone voice.
“Wh-what?” Jason hurriedly scanned Leo’s face for any sign of a joke, but for some reason he couldn’t quite meet his eyes. They were distorted somehow, like trying to see a monster through the Mist. Fog swirled around the two of them, so Jason lost sight of their surroundings, only Leo’s weirdly blank face. He caught a flash of Leo laughing- a burst between the freakily deadpan expression Leo wore. It was like something had glitched.
Suddenly, the room brightened. They were back in the restaurant, and Leo was looking at him with a curious expression, his brow knotted slightly in concern.
“I didn’t say anything,” Leo said.
“You… You said…” Jason tried to think back to their previous conversation, but his memory of it was somehow distant- like a wound closing from ambrosia.
Leo cocked his head to one side, “You sure you’re alright, Jase?”
Jason blinked, “I’m- I’m fine.” He shook his head, trying to clear the confusion. “Long day. Just a little sleep-deprived. Probably hallucinating. What were we talking about, again?”
“Baby names,” Leo reminded him.
“Oh, right.”
“I think Leo Jr is a very strong name for a child,” Leo said, “Imagine, “Leonidas Valdez the Second! Badass Warrior Mechanic!”
“But what if it’s a girl?”
Leo paused for a few seconds, then said “I was thinking… I could name her after my mom?”
Jason frowned, “Names have power though. While I love the sentiment, I don’t think naming your kid after someone who died young is a very good idea.”
Leo sighed, “You’re right.”
“But it’s a lovely thought, though.”
“Yeah…”

Jason walked into class the next morning.
“Hey, Professor! How’s your twink?”
“He’s not my-“ Jason began, “Well, yes, he is kind of a twink. And he is mine. What’s your point?”
The students laughed.
Jason turned to the projector screen and began to talk, when a student interrupted him.
“Tell us more about your husband, Professor!”
Jason knew this trap. They were trying to de-rail the lesson, get Jason talking about something else and forget to set the homework. If they thought they were gonna get away with not having to learn about Roman History for half a lesson they were wrong. Jason wasn’t gonna fall for their games and tricks.
But oh! He was a sucker for talking about Leo. As much as he wanted to resist, he found himself sinking into a ramble about his husband’s amazingness.
“I mean, he’s only the best thing to come from Huston, Texas. Like, ever. And that includes Beyoncé.”
The entire lecture hall gave a collective gasp of shock.
“You’re not serious, sir?” A student in the front row whispered.
“I am. And I don’t say that lightly either,” Jason may have been raised by wolves, but even he understood Beyoncé’s reverence. “I very much respect Queen Bey and what she does. You know she’s actually a minor goddess now?”
“Really? The gods made her one?” Another student heckled.
Jason shook his head, “No, not the gods. Much like how the Roman Emperors survived for thousands of years because of how much they were worshipped by their subjects, Beyoncé’s cult following has helped her ascend to goddesshood too.”
“Woah…”
“I’d be surprised if the Eras Tour doesn’t do the same thing for Taylor Swift. My husband loves her. We wanna get tickets, but that would mean our kids will never be able to afford to go to college, so… it’s still open for negotiation.”
A student raised his hand, “What other celebrities became gods from their worship?”
“Well,” Jason said, leaning back on his desk, “Have you ever heard of a band called the Beatles?”
Once the lesson had ended, Jason was approached by one of his students. It was Joshua, the kid he’d helped with homework.
“I- I just wanted to thank you for your help, Professor. On the essay. I got a really high grade and I passed my class!”
Jason grinned, “That’s great to hear! I don’t wanna give too much away but I have a feeling you’ll do very well in this class, too.” He tapped the side of his nose, like he was telling some big secret.
Joshua still looked a little nervous, like he had something more to say but wasn’t sure if he should.
“Is everything alright, Joshua?” Jason asked, giving him his kindest smile.
“It’s just… umm… I wanted to thank you for being my favourite teacher. You’re such an inspiring role model… my- my parents, they d-don’t really like the sort of stuff I’m studying… the sort of stuff I was writing that essay about. They’re traditional, see? All about upholding Good Roman Values. But you, being so open about who you are, and about your husband… from someone as heroic and influential as yourself… it meant a lot to me.”
Before Jason knew what was happening, Joshua gave him a quick, tight hug. “Thank you,” the kid whispered. Then he shouldered his backpack, and left the lecture hall.
Jason may or may not have cried a little.
- ⚡️ - 💍 - 🔥 - [ L+J] - 🔥 - 💍 - ⚡️ -
Jason pushed a button, and a large metal door opened inwards onto Leo’s warehouse. He stepped inside, his footsteps echoing on the hard concrete floor. From the cavernous ceiling hung car engines, machine parts, and large automatons. All around him were cluttered racks, standing shelves, and an assortment of other storage solutions. Jason wove his way through the labyrinthine pathways forged from kicked-aside projects. He was carrying a large take-out bag from the Greek Restaurant across the street from campus. Despite the large open space, there wasn’t much room to walk, so he picked his way apprehensively through the mess, nervous that he might step either on some prized masterpiece, or something explosive.
He spotted Leo’s apprentice, Penny, working the forges in the back of the gigantic space. She was hammering out a sheet of stygian iron, her mousy-blonde hair tied messily out of the way. She wore large welder’s goggles, and oversized Dragon-hide gloves.
He gingerly stepped over machinery and made his way over to her, greeting her with a nod. She stopped hammering, and pushed her goggles onto her head with a gloved finger.
“Where’s your Jedi Master?” Jason asked.
She set her hammer down on a nearby workbench and glanced expectantly at his take-out bag. He reached in, brought out a greasy Tupperware box, un-popped the lid, and handed her one of the dolmades. Her expression didn’t waver, she continued to stare at the bag. Jason rolled his eyes and begrudgingly gave her another one. This seemed to satisfy her. “He’s up on the roof,” she said, popping the stuffed vine leaf into her mouth.
He thanked her, and made his way up the metal spiral staircase that led to the roof.
He found Leo sitting on the roof’s edge, facing away from him. Festus sat next to him on his hind legs, his large metal tail wrapped around him like a cat. They both turned when Jason came up. He walked over to them, patted the dragon’s bronze jaw affectionately, and sat down next to Leo, putting the take-out bag between them. He began to dish out the food. Leo raised an eyebrow at the missing dolmades.
“I had to bribe Penny to tell me where you were,” Jason admitted.
Leo chuckled and shook his head in disbelief. His dark curls bounced in the golden light of the setting sun. “That girl has learned well. Never waste an opportunity to swindle free food.”
“Oh, I see. You taught her that.”
They laughed, kicking their dangling feet off the concrete warehouse walls.
“So how was your day?” Leo asked.
Jason scratched Festus’ chin, absent-mindedly. He thought about Joshua, and about the other kids in his class. He thought about how proud he was of the papers he graded. He thought about the bright young minds. Jason had grown up fighting in the legion. He’d faced untold horrors in order to save the world. So had Leo. And they still were saving it in their own way. By passing his knowledge onto the next generation, he felt safe knowing that the future was in their hands. By teaching his students about demigod life, about Roman History, and also teaching them that it was okay for a tough Roman soldier to love another man, he felt like he was still doing all he could to protect the world, but he’d found a less life-threatening way to do it.
“My day was good,” He told him, “What about yours?”
As Leo talked about his latest commissions, Jason looked around him. He remembered how much Leo had saved up to be able to afford to buy this place. But he needed a place to keep Festus (Terminus had been very particular about where the dragon had been allowed to stay, since he technically counted as a weapon). It had meant their honeymoon was spent in some discount resort in the south of Mexico with a low budget hotel room, drinking cheap wine. Jason wouldn’t have traded it for the world.
Leo really did love his machine shop. It had been a dream of his to own one since as long as Jason had known him. He knew that part of that was guilt for burning down the one his mom owned in Texas, that had been in his family for three generations. But Jason could see by the way Leo treated the space that he kept it working to honour his mom. And although Jason had never met Esperanza, he could feel her spirit in the air in this place.
He wondered if she’d be happy for her son that they’d found each other. Jason thought she would. She’d be so proud of Leo- how could she not? Leo was the best thing that had ever happened to Jason. He’d fought tooth and nail to save the world, and now they were living happily in New Rome.
Are we happy? A little voice in the back of Jason’s head said. They still had troubles and hardships ahead of them. Leo still struggled to sleep with the nightmares. Jason still couldn’t say Caligula’s name. People still looked down on Jason for dating the Greek who fired on New Rome. People still gave Jason shit for taking the last name of the man he loved. Queer kids in Jason’s class still struggled to be accepted by their parents. Wars were still happening. Demigods still died. Things might look completely different for them in a few years time. They could be drafted into another fight. They could lose each other. Again.
But they had found their little pocket of peace. The place and time where they could stay. And be happy. Because yes, they were happy.
He sat, side-by side with Leo, looking out at the sunset going from orange to purple to black. He wrapped his arm around his husband’s shoulders. The love of his life. His everything.
He was happy. Despite everything, he was happy. Jason was happy going to work every day, facing whatever there was to be faced, knowing he would come home to Leo at the end.
Jason looked into Leo’s eyes. Leo’s sparkling, dazzling eyes. The freshly-born stars reflected in them as the sky darkened to night. He watched them twinkle in those pupils as they shifted, busily scanning the sky for gods know what. He knew that he was happy, too. They had each other.
Sometimes the fates could be kind that way.
Jason sat on the warehouse roof, watching the stars come out. And he knew, right then and there, that whatever happened, everything was gonna be okay.

Fuuuucckkk this took me ages to write but ohhh my gods-
This is now my longest fic ever and I’ve been obsessed with it for months.
Footnotes/Things I wanna talk about:
One day I realised “Hey, wait! I can make them get married!” And two months and 15K words later (I started writing this on Jason’s bday) here we are.
Penny, Leo’s apprentice- would you wanna see more from her? I know fics with ocs don’t do as well, but it will still mostly focus on Valgrace. I love the idea of talking about my otps from an outsider POV, I can expand on more lore for this universe, and be able to show them just being adorable and cute and fluffy together. Maybe while Leo and Jason are thinking more seriously about kids, Leo tries out his fatherly chops on his apprentice?
No we are not gonna mention Jason’s little “glitch in the matrix” moment back there. Nothing happened, what are you even talking about? [unless you think that would make a good fic to expand upon, I’d be prepared to take a dark route] Just pretend I added that in to explain away any plot-holes.
The “Jason wants to get in touch with his bio family and Leo’s a little sceptical” plot is something I’ve wanted to write about for a while. Particularly as Jason’s whole arc is about finding a place. They’re “The Lost Trio” because each of them are trying to find something. Jason’s trying to find who he is and where he belongs. Leo’s prepared to just settle for any place that won’t shun him for who he is. I fully believe that Leo is perfectly happy just the two of them, whereas Jason’s still on that journey of “what if there’s more of me out there?”. And Leo being Leo, he’d obviously help Jason with that, but he’d remind Jason that he would be loved no matter what, with or without a bio family.
Should I expand on that topic, write a conclusion? I left it a little open-ended and up to the imagination (and bc this fic is already 9k words long as I’m writing this and there are too many plotlines) but it would be something fun to follow up on, maybe giving it it’s own time to properly shine, and get down to the nitty gritty stuff. If the family is good to Jason, Leo would be happy for him but still a little bitter that he never got that chance. If the family is bad to Jason, Jason would struggle with what that means for him (he did a little bit of this in canon when he saw his mom’s ghost in BoO) and Leo would empathise with him, and reassure them that they’re still a family just as them.
I like to cite my sources, so here is the article I found about Ancient Greek wedding traditions in case you’re curious/need inspiration. It was an interesting rabbit-hole.
Also, a lot of this was inspired by @lavenderfairiez’s fic “All I wanted was you” so pls check that out.
Thank you to @xixovart for helping me with the Spanish. I am White As Fuck and British, and I get most of what I know of Latin American culture from In The Heights, so I apologise if I’ve gotten things wrong (I also used google translate for some).
I found I ended up making Jason speak Spanish a lot more than Leo- I feel like Jason is definitely more of an “endearing pet names” kinda guy, wheras Leo is the “fucking ruthless character assassinations” kinda guy. I also have this hc that Jason absolutely LOVES to speak Spanish to Leo, and does it at every opportunity. He thinks of it as “Leo’s language” and adores the fact that he can speak it now, because him and Leo are together, and that makes him so fucking happy.
Jason thinks Leo is just the best thing to ever happen to existence, and I love that.
Lot o’ thoughts about wedding vows, and the theme of promises for Valgrace and PJO in general. I’ve already made a post about it here
Leo is autisic. I feel like that had to be said bc it fuels a lot of my writing choices for this fic. Also I love it. Jason is so accommodating for his needs. They both look after each other and I love that for them.
I have WAY more where that came from. I have a timeline, a backstory, and, like, ten other fic ideas set in that universe. I have AUs of this AU. I have concept art. I have headcanons.
Please let me know what bits of this you enjoyed best, so that I can get a good idea of what to write next.
Page dividers made by me. I spent ages on them and I’m really proud of them so I might reblog with a few close-ups.

Keeping to the schedule.
Pairing: Chris Evans x Reader
Warnings: angst, sad, marriage, divorce, smut
Summary: After seven years of being married, two daughters and a difficult divorce, they try to understand what went wrong and why they let that happen.
Part I
“I’m so sorry to do this but we’re having problems with a few scenes. I won’t be at home until next week.” He said from the other side of the line. Since the divorce we have been being very strict with the custody agreement of our children.
“So, will you come to pick them up the next Friday?” I asked.
“Yes, I will be there. And again, I’m really sorry, I tried to do everything in my hands” I knew that he doesn’t like to change anything about the kids, he says we should try to give them as much stability as we can. I couldn’t agree more.
“Don’t worry, it’s fine.” I simply said.
We got married seven years ago, we had a happy marriage, but loneliness and exhaustion made me give up on our marriage. He started to spend more time away, accepting more projects in L.A or any part of the world but home. I guess home wasn’t what it used to be for him and for me because eventually I stopped complaining about his absence.
“I need to talk to you.” I said when I saw him getting out of the shower. I closed the door of the bathroom and l leaned on the sink. “About what? I’m kind of tired, can we leave it for tomorrow?” He said, drying himself with a towel. I was sick of it; I was being left to a side for so long that I didn’t hold it on. “Not really.” He looked at me then, normally I don’t insist. “I filed for divorce.” His face went from confusion to anger quickly.
We fought, he got really mad. I knew I should have talk to him before doing it, but he was never around, I was mad and sad, I wasn’t thinking properly. He didn’t talk to me for four months after that night, he moved to his mother’s house and did everything in his hands to accelerate the process. I know I didn’t deal very well with all of that and either he did. Our relationship since then got even more complicate.
Our obsession with our kids’ stability grew after that. We both knew they were going suffer the most, at least Anna. She was almost six when all of that happened, she asked a few times, but we never gave her an answer she could understand. Emma was only four, she noticed that something was wrong but was too young to assimilate it.
“Mom, Lindsay is having a sleepover this Thursday, and we don’t have school on Friday, can I go? Her mom will call you tomorrow to ask you, can I go, please?” Anna asked, taking my attention from the road as I drove us to home.
“Sure honey” I said with my eyes on the road.
“Dad is coming on Friday, right? I will tell her mom to bring me back in the morning” she always gets excited to see him, both do it.
“It’s not necessary honey, he probably will come to pick you up after dinner. I will pick you up to get lunch together at the park, what do you think?” she nodded enthusiastic, eating her sandwich.
Thursday comes quickly and Martha, Lindsay’s mom, picked Anna up. Emma got to sleep very early after a long afternoon at the park. I went down to watch a few minutes a TV show before to go to bed. The doorbell rang, startling me, it wasn’t late, but I wasn’t expecting anybody. When I got close to the door, I recognized the silhouette of the person behind the door.
“Hi, what are you doing here?”
“I wrapped the film early, I’m sorry if it is too late but I knew you wouldn’t mind. You can have the entire day to yourself tomorrow, in this way.”
“It’s fine, but Anna is not here, she’s at Lindsay’s house and Emma is already sleeping.” He looked devastated and it broke my heart. He usually doesn’t spent too long without seeing them. “You can see Emma if you want to.” I offered and he accepted quickly. He got into the house and went upstairs to Emma’s room.
After a few minutes, he came down to the kitchen where I was preparing things for tomorrow. I wouldn’t say our relationship was good, o was getting better. it was confusing. “How have you been? How was everything with the kids?” he asked from the doorframe. I turned around to see him and answered, “It was fine, no incidents.” I simply said. We looked each other for a while, we haven’t talk since we had sex the last time, he came to bring the girls back. He stayed for dinner and a while after, the girls went to sleep, we started to talk about them, about our past together, about us a couple. We kissed and one thing took us to another.
“I want to talk about the last time. I don’t want you to think I…” he started; I knew it didn’t mean anything for him, it was just sex, he has been avoiding me since then but him bringing the subject up made me mad and it hurt me a little.
“I know! Don’t worry! Let’s just forget about it.” I said walking to the front door.
“No, it’s just that we were kind of drunk and got emotional.” He started to say without following me.
“It was just sex. I get it! You made it very clear when you couldn’t wait to leave.” As soon as we were done, he got up from the bed and started to dress up. He told me it was late, and he had a thing to do in the morning, but I knew he was lying. He left me, naked in the bed, the one we shared for several years.
“I didn’t want the girls to get confused.” He got closer to the door, shaking his head, and rubbing his face roughly with his hands.
“You didn’t want me to get confused.” His eyes got bigger, and I could see the anger growing in his face.
“You couldn’t care less about what I wanted so don’t tell me what my intentions were.”
“You made them very clear.”
He looked confused, but he moved quickly. “You always so understanding. But why don’t you just listen to me? I’m trying to …” He couldn’t say anything more.
“You’re right, it’s kind of late and there isn’t a reason for you to stay.” I interrupted him, he looked mad.
He took a deep breath and kept on “I’m picking the kids tomorrow’s morning” he informed me before walking out.
“They won’t be here until late afternoon.” I said back. He looked at me without saying anything and kept on his walking. I stood at the door, looking how he got in the car. He turned on the engine, and before driving away he looked at me through the window. “Thank God we’re divorced.”
When the topic isn’t our kids, it never goes well. I guess we’re still hurt.
I didn’t fully understand why he got so angry until I saw the pictures.
After he picked the girls the next day, I did some work and later I filled a glass with wine and turned on the television to pick up a film to watch but my phone rang.
“Hey hon! How are you doing?” Lily asked, with a worried voice that I didn’t get.
“Hey! Why are you asking like that? I’m pretty fine.” I said laughing.
“Well! I don’t know, I thought you will be kind of sad o maybe angry, if my ex-husband was dating with somebody after not even a year from our divorce, I would be ready to kill him.”
“What? What are you talking about? I mean he hadn’t told me anything, I don’t think he’s dating again.” I said quite confused.
“Shit! You haven’t seen it, have you?”
Right away, I googled him with the call waiting.
Chris Evans is off market again? The former superhero and the upcoming actress Rachel Welles spotted holding hands and getting affectionate.
He was trying to talk about our night together because he was going to tell me about her. I felt my heart shrinking. I guess I should have been ready for this, he was free to be with whoever he wanted but it hurt me.
“I’m sorry, girl. It must be weird and hurtful. If you need anything you know I’m right here, right?” she asked kindly.
“I’m fine. he’s free to be with anybody but I guess I wasn’t as much ready to see it as I thought.”
“Yeah, knowing something isn’t always mean assimilating it, right?”
“Right”
After the call I refilled my glass and went to sleep with a few tears in my cheeks.
Our relationship began so natural, and it went so fast. We met through common friends, we dated just for tree moths after he asked me to move on with him. We didn’t take long to get married either, we both just knew that it was the right decision. I really loved him, and I know he loved me too. It wasn’t a fantasy, but we were grown-ups when he met, we knew what we wanted for life, in a partner and we found it in each other.
He was a great husband, a great father and a great friend. I single tear fell through my cheek, remembering the beginning of our freefall.
“There’s not a good way to say this. I’m really sorry to tell this but, Mrs. Evans you had a miscarriage.” Doctor Lars said. I felt Chris’s hand in my knee, comforting me. I felt I couldn’t breathe. My heart broke in pieces. “But I’m six months pregnant, this usually happens during the first trimester. This can’t be true.” My mouth slurred. “Well, the actual name is a late-miscarriage, there are several things that may play a part in causing it so we need to do a few tests to find a cause. I know this isn’t easy, but these things can happen, and we can’t do anything to prevent it.” I touched my barely swollen belly, missing the movements of my baby. “What are we doing now?” Chris talked, taking care of the situation. “You will need to go through labour to give birth to you baby. I know this can be a very distressing time and you may be in shock but there’s not other way.” I could hear him breathe hardly before kissing my head.
We went through our worst nightmare. I gave birth to a baby I could take care of. Thankfully, after inducing the labour, the birth came quickly. We decided not to hold the baby. We thought it will be less traumatic in that way.
He went with me through all of that, but we changed. Everything changed.
Five days later, I came into our bedroom to see him packing his suitcase.
“What are you doing? I asked softly.
“I need to go to L.A for a few interviews and shoot a few scenes” I looked at him straightly. Not quite believing he was going to leave so early after everything. “Don’t worry, I asked my mother to come to help you with everything.” he said, seeing my expression. I didn’t want to be alone, I didn’t want his mom here, I wanted him. I caressed his back, calling his attention.
“Don’t go, please.” I muttered. “It will be just a couple days, two weeks max.” he said holding me in his arms.
“Two weeks?” that was so fucking long.
“Listen, I can really do anything. I’m sorry but it’s work. What you want me to do?” he tried to reason with me, in vain.
“Call Meghan and ask her to reschedule it. We have an appointment with Doctor Lars next week.” I didn’t like to complain about his job or ask him to not to do it, but I couldn’t go through that alone.
“Everything will be fine, call me after the appointment and tell me what she says. I will be here as soon as I can.” I pushed him away with my eyes watering.
“Okay” for the first time in our life together he was putting his family in a second place.
The worst thing it was that trip didn’t last 2 weeks, but 3 months. He told me that his next project was being moved forward, and nothing else. He left me alone in the worst moment of my life and I couldn’t forget it.
After a few more glasses of wine, I took me phone and I called him.
“Hello” he said with a surprised voice. “What’s going on?”
“What was what you wanted to tell me last time? Hey, I know we just fuck but I’m actually in a relationship with some else and you must forget about it.” I slurred, mimicking him.
“You know it.” He said, I could hear him moving to another place. I guess he left the house.
“Of course, I do. Do you think I live under a rock?” I wasn’t jealous I was mad at him, at myself.
“Okay I get it you’re mad, but I wanted to talk…”
“What for? To say sorry for fucking me or to ask me to keep back of your new love.”
“No, it’s not like…”
“Why did you leave me? Why wasn’t I your priority anymore? I asked, removing the tears away from my face. My voice broke a few times, I was unable to keep myself still.
“Where are you? Are you drunk?” he asked hurriedly.
“It wasn’t my blame; I couldn’t have known it.” I kept talking.
“What are you talking about?” his voice was full of curiosity and confusion.
“We didn’t name him, he died without a name.” my face was completely wet, my arms were crossed around my stomach and my heart… I couldn’t feel my heart.
“Are you at home? Pease tell me where you are.” He asked desperately.
“Yes, I’m here.” I muttered before hanging up.
A few minutes later I heard the door opening, and his footsteps. I was in completely darkness, no TV, no lights, nothing but somehow, he knew exactly where I was.
“Hey! What’s going on? What happened?” he asked softly, sitting next to me in the half-furnished nursery.
“Why did you leave me?”
“Well, when you wife files for divorce, it’s actually kind of what you have do” he said with a sad smile in his face.
“You left me way before that.” I said quickly, he left me when we lost our baby. “We never talked about him.”
“I don’t think you are in an appropriate state to talk about him.” He said without looking at me.
“I’m fine. Don’t make excuses! You just don’t want to talk about him with me.”
“I don’t want to talk about him with nobody.”
“I’m not nobody.”
“Why is this so important now? It’s been a year since then, we are not together anymore...” he started to get up from the floor.
“You’re dating again…” I finished the sentence off for him “you told me you weren’t ready. You said you missed me, that you missed us.” I said, remembering what he told me when he was taking me to our bedroom between kisses and caresses.
His face looked confused and tired.
“I don’t get it. Why are so upset? You filed for divorce without telling me why, without giving me a chance to make it better. All I know is you felt neglected, but I didn’t do anything wrong. I thought we were just going through a rough patch, but I thought it was normal after all.” His voice was firmed, he wasn’t yelling me, but I bet he wanted. “I know you don’t think this but I’m not the bad guy here.” His eyes were red and watering. He never told me anything of this. He had been too angry to talk to me about anything.
He walked to the door, ready to leave me.
“You left me.” I said, calling his attention.
“You already said that.” He barked back.
“When I asked you to stay you left me for almost four months after I gave birth to my death son. I needed you Chris, and you rather work than be with your wife.” His face kept straight; he knew what I was talking about. I got up when I saw him get closer to me. He looked at me for minutes, as he wasn’t sure about his next words.
“I went to therapy. I didn’t come back home because I wasn’t stable, not because I was working, not because I wanted to leave, it was because I didn’t see another way to deal with everything. You were right when you said holding our baby it would be traumatic, it was.” I didn’t understand what he was talking about, we agreed on not to hold the baby when he was born but he cleared all up “I couldn’t help it, I saw him coming out of you as the same way Emma and Anna did. I needed to see him, and it was the worst thing I could have done, but it was my son.” His eyes never left mine when his body got much closer to me. “I lost my son too, honey. I couldn’t be there for you because I wasn’t handling in the right way.” I saw a single tear going down through his cheek. At least I wasn’t the only one crying.
“Why didn’t you tell me this?”
“Because you gave birth to him! How the fucking hell could I have told you I was the one losing his mind after that? I know I should have stayed with you but believe me, there wasn’t another option, I didn’t find another way.”

How Does Eating Humans Work?
Hello, Gotou here. We’re shamelessly borrowing from the format of a KnY Fanbook #2 comic to launch an investigation into demon metabolism and development by crossing the Sanzu River again to interview demons in the underworld. While we’ll be using canon materials as a base, the analysis and conjecture herein is personal, so we ask for your understanding. Also, please note that consuming any food in the underworld will make you unable to return, and we cannot promise your safety even though the interview subjects are dead, so please come along at your own risk.
Some of the questions we’d like to answer are, why do demons need to eat humans? How much do they need to eat to survive? Are there factors that influence how eating humans makes them stronger? If they don’t want to kill humans, what are their other options? We’ve rounded up some special guests below the cut (hidden for length and grossness), everyone from the lowly Temple Demon to the lovely Tamayo, to see what their actions in canon might tell us.
First, a review of what canon tells us, mostly as summarized in Fanbook #2: 1. With one exception named Yushirou, all demons were created by Kibutsuji Muzan, for his own purposes. They all have some amount of his blood, and can be divided into four classes depending on how powerful they are. From top to bottom, the Upper Moons, the Lower Moons, demons with special abilities, and other demons without any special characteristics. 2. Demons may be stronger depending on how much of Kibutsuji Muzan’s blood they have. Most beings’ cannot handle a large amount of his blood, and it will rupture the cells and that being will die, but there are demons who adapt well to it. 3. Typically, sunlight is the only way to kill a demon, by either bathing them in sunlight or cutting of their head with a Nichirin blade. However, there are powerful demons for whom chopping off their head does not work, and if it’s strong enough, demons can also be killed by wisteria poison.
4. Demons eat human blood and flesh. The more they eat, the stronger they become, and the faster their regenerative abilities become. Some humans have “Marechi,” a rare blood type, which is especially nutritious to demons, and eating one Marechi is the equivalent of eating several humans.
That’s an interesting thing we’d like to come back to, especially since we’re looking for quantitative information about how demons gain nutrition (though I have my doubts we'll get enough for statistical analysis). As an interesting note, Fanbook #2 also tells us that if demons try to consume the same edibles humans do, they’ll vomit it back up.
I’m told that Miss Tamayo drinks tea, though. That’ll be an interesting question for later. In my notes, it seems she’s also explained to Tanjirou back in Chapter 15 that demons will normally go berserk if they go a long time without consuming any blood or flesh. Berserk is one thing, but I wonder if they can starve to death? We’ll see if these canon clues will lead us to anything. We’ll begin now in an interview format. Hopefully this will go smoothly, but I’ve got a feeling it won’t. First up, we’ve the Temple Demon.
Temple: Who were you calling ‘lowly’ just now? Up there, above the cut?
Gotou: That was in a literal sense, not having Blood Techniques means you’re in the bottom common tier of demons.
Temple: Argh. Fine. What do you want to know?
Gotou: In Chapter 2, you were spotted with three human victims. However, it seems you left their bodies mostly intact and only ate small parts instead of consuming one full human at a time. Could you comment on this?
Temple: I’d have gotten to more later if that whelp with the strong legs didn’t interrupt me! Who’s got time to eat entire humans anyway? I went for the easy stuff first.
Gotou: I see. It appears you might had focused on key organs, like the heart and the liver. Would you say these are especially nutritionally dense?
Temple: I guess. If I’m going to eat humans, I’m going to start with what’s worth bothering to digest. Blood’s easier on the stomach, so that’s what I was busy with on the lady there.
Gotou: Then it takes effort to digest? Hmm. Let’s come back to this later. How many humans would you say you consumed, including these three?
Temple: Not a lot… I tried to get a variety so I could get stronger faster, but…
Gotou: I’ll put down a guess as ten or less. Let’s move on to someone who has a sharper memory for numbers. One of our longer-lived guests at Mt. Fujikasane for 47 years, the Hand Demon. While most of the demons on the mountain had only eaten two or three humans, you’ve eaten a whole 50 of the children who headed into the Final Selection, didn’t you?
Hand: Yes, that’s right. It was hard at first since I wasn’t very strong, and the demons usually all went crazy there eating each other, just like that one brat who got away in Chapter 7 said. If you could manage to kill any of the kids, you had the other demons to fight off to even get a piece to yourself. That was enough to get me by, and stronger, little by little. Your body learns to make your meals last, and make the most of what you can get. I usually only had a bite of one child a year, can you imagine how horrible that was? Most demons who survive usually figure out some way to develop and survive better, and once my cells found something that worked for me, I kept doing it. I got really good at snatching away prey from other demons, and soon enough I was a bigger threat than any of them. None of them could, you might say, lay a hand on me.
Gotou: That’s an interesting point about self-development. A demon named Nezuko was spent two years doing that in her sleep.
Hand: She must have had a big meal before that!
Gotou: Well, anyway. It seems that in near starving conditions, your metabolism made the most of what you had, leading to the most efficient use of whatever food was available to you.
Hand: That’s right, I got really good at it. Wasn’t always pretty, but I made it work. I got to a point where I could go two years without eating and still keep my wits about me while the other demons were going mad. But I chose to eat. I liked to keep my appetite for specific children.
Gotou: That smile is not reassuring. Some humans taste better than others, I guess?
Hand: That’s for sure. This one kid tasted awful, like rust and man sweat! I still don’t have that disgusting taste out of my mouth! But he was one of my more satisfying meals, so I ate more of him.
Gotou: Then why would you… nevermind, I don’t like that smile, no further questions. While I had hoped to keep these interviews focused on quantities of humans consumed, it does seem personal taste is worth asking about. I had tried to invite a Swamp Demon from Chapter 11, but it kept arguing with itself and it felt like I’d be wasting my time. The one definite thing I learned was that this demon is picky, with a distinct preference for 16-year-old girls. Based on the number of trinkets he kept, it seems he had consumed at least seventeen of them, including several in one town. Sheesh, that’s sort of a rough mission to send a first-timer on. I’ve got a more cooperative guest here to discuss her tastes, a Snake Demon who, according to Chapter 188, has a special taste for baby flesh.
Snake: Thank you for having me here. It’s good to be appreciated again.
Gotou: Did you only eat babies?
Snake: Goodness, no. Babies are delicious, but they aren’t very nutritious. And their skulls certainly aren’t that big, the ones I lounged around with were from the people whom I killed and stole from. But you know the nice thing about baby skulls? They’re still soft. They take a long time to digest, but I can swallow them whole.
Gotou: Like… like a snake, then. Sorry, I’m a little ill hearing that. Let’s back up, were all those skulls the remains of adults you ate, then?
Snake: Meh, I ate some of them of better-looking ones, but most of them I only killed. I could usually kill a lot more at a time than I could bother eating, my killing record was fifty women all at once.
Gotou: And you didn’t find that wasteful?
Snake: Wasteful? Not at all. I wasn’t exactly in dire straits, I lived a more luxurious life than most demons do. That meant I could afford to wait for a truly delicious meal, like how you humans might leave something in a slow-cooker to enjoy the perfect combination of doneness and tenderness, plated in the most appetizing of ways.
Gotou: I guess demons and humans are similar in that regard.
Snake: I’m so glad you can relate! Then you understand the frustration of a meal you’ve be preparing for years opening up the slow-cooker and running away right when they were just about done.
Gotou: I have never had that experience.
Snake: I’ll get you, my pretty. And your little snake, too.
Gotou: I think we might have gotten a little off-topic here. It does seem digesting humans comes with some difficulty. I’d like to invite the Drum Demon in next. Your name is Kyougai, I hear?
Kyougai: !!
Gotou: Kyogai, right?
Kyougai: You’ve heard of me! You know my name!
Gotou: I happened to, yes.
Kyougai: What have you heard???
Gotou: That you were kicked out of the Lower Moons for being unable to consume enough humans.
Kyougai: Oh. ……..yeah, that’s me.
Gotou: I thought demons go berserk if they go a long time without consuming humans. Wouldn’t that make an inability to consume them problematic?
Kyougai: It wasn’t that I couldn’t eat them! Like I said in Chapter 24, I had to in order to sustain myself, just like any other demon. But, at some point, I couldn’t eat as much as I used to. That happens to humans too, doesn’t it? When you just can’t stomach anymore?
Gotou: You mean like when you’ve overeaten? In a human’s case that feeling may go away within a few hours.
Kyougai: Sort of like that, but you know, humans reach a time when nothing is appetizing or the thought of eating makes them feel sick, right? Isn’t that the human condition?
Gotou: …uh… maybe if they have a medical condition? Or anxiety? Do demons get anxiety? Or eating disorders?
Kyougai: I… I don’t know. I just wasn’t good enough.
Gotou: I think it’s plenty good if you stopped eating humans. Though to have developed Blood Techniques and been a Lower Moon in the first place, you must had eaten a great number of them.
Kyougai: You think I’m great?
Gotou: What?
Kyougai: No, sorry, I was getting ahead of myself. It’s true, I used to be able to eat as many as the other Lower Moons always consumed. Our stomachs were stronger, you might say. Demons got strong by eating humans, and then the more you did that the better you usually got at it, so the strong ones would eat more and more and keep getting stronger and stronger. At least, that’s how it usually worked. I’ve seen other demons below me reached that point too, where they feel the drive to eat, but then they have trouble digesting it for a long time, so they don’t wind up eating that many people.
Gotou: Then it would make sense to eat the most nutritionally dense parts first.
Kyougai: Or a Marechi.
Gotou: Yes, or a Marechi.
Kyougai: It was a great idea, wasn’t it?
Gotou: I cannot condone any consumption of humans as a good idea.
Kyougai: I knew it. I’m nothing. Go ahead, stomp all over everything I ever tried to accomplish.
Gotou: I think I’m going to move on to my next interviewee now. It looks like we’ve got… oh, would you look at this? Lower Moon One. Enmu, I believe.
Enmu: You can believe whatever you want. I’m happy to help.
Gotou: I don’t need any help, thanks. I’m curious, since you were one of the stronger demons out there, it seems you had a stronger capacity for consuming humans.
Enmu: I did, I was always careful and paced myself so the Demon Slayers wouldn’t notice me. I took my time. I liked to enjoy e-e-e-a-c-h one.
Gotou: Then you had tastes too? Like babies, or 16-year-old girls?
Enmu: I could season any human to my liking. They’re all very easy to prepare.
Gotou: I’m still trying to get quantitative data. Can you tell me at least a rough estimate of how many humans you consumed?
Enmu: I told this more precisely to that boy with the earrings back in Chapter 59, and I can tell you this too. At my best, I could had eaten over two-hundred people at once if I took my time.
Gotou: OH MY GAW----sorry, I dropped my pen. Two hundred, at once?
Enmu: Yes. If I had just. Had. A little. More. Time.
Gotou: Clearly there is a huge difference between what common demons are capable of and what the Twelve Moons are capable of.
Daki: Psh, those were all any random common people. That’s nothing to brag about.
Gotou: Excuse me, and you are?
Daki: Daki, Upper Moon Six. You want something really impressive, you talk to the Upper Moons.
Gotou: I’m sorry, I don’t see you on my list.
Daki: What! Your list is stupid. Look me in the eyes, I’m Upper Moon Six!
Gotou: Very well, then. What can you tell me about your diet, Miss Upper Moon Six?
Daki: That’s more like it. It’s true that digestion takes a while, and takes some effort. Even though we Upper Moons may have eaten hundreds of people in our lifetimes, it’s not as if we gorge ourselves. The clever ones among us save prey for later to eat when we feel ready for it.
Gotou: Food storage? How do you keep them fresh?
Daki: You leave them still alive, numbskull. Nobody wants to eat something cold, that’s gross.
Gotou: I see, so that’s why demons prefer to go after new kills instead of saving what they’ve already managed to kill. That also might explain why the demons on Mt. Fujikasane wouldn’t had eaten many humans, if they found long dead ones in edible.
Daki: You want to know the real secret to eating humans? You can eat what you find tastes good, sure. But to get stronger, you eat strong people. Like your Corp members, the ones besides chumps like you? Using all that Breath makes their muscles really lean and potent, it’s like they come offering themselves as protein bars for us.
Gotou: You make them sound like a fad diet…
Daki: The real secret is eating Pillars. Besides Marechi, they’re the strongest meals out there. Guess how many I’ve eaten?
Gotou: I don’t have the data to make an educated guess.
Daki: Then get educated! Look back at Chapter 88! I’ve eaten seven Pillars, and my brother has eaten fifteen!
Gotou: Your brother? Who is he, then, Upper Moon Five?
Daki: What? Ew. Gross. Gross! No way, ew!
Gotou: Hmm… eating Pillars, huh? Well, I can think of one Pillar who was…
Douma: Me too!
Gotou: Speak of the devil.
Douma: Actually, we Upper Moons can! And he's not Satan, that's not how this works. But I guess Muzan-sama’s curse doesn’t effect us now. Ask me anything you want!
Gotou: That Chapter 143 reference was such a rude entrance. I understand that Pillars are particularly nutritious—
Douma: Oh, please don’t misunderstand! I don’t even eat all the Pillars I’ve encountered. There was the one Flower Pillar who got away from me, but some of the boy pillars I just leave around. What’s really the key to consistent nutritional intake is women! It’s really unhealthy for a demon not to get enough women in their diet, that’s why even if you’re only looking for Marechi or Pillars, your metabolism is going to get thrown out of whack with sudden big meals. You grow a stronger metabolism with consistency, I believe!
Gotou: If I could stop you there, I had an image from Chapter 142 I preferred to focus on for this case study. I see you keep a wide collection of skulls, from victims whom I assume you ate.
Douma: Yes, they all stayed together inside me for eternity, but the room looked lonely without décor.
Gotou: It seems other demons usually go for nutritionally dense organs like hearts or livers, or easy to digest parts of the body, perhaps just blood sometimes. Eating the entire victim, bones and all, doesn’t seem to be the norm.
Douma: Bones are organs too, you know! That’s where blood is made, at its freshest. They do take more practice in learning to digest, and I had to find a way around not having to chew them, but the bone marrow is very, very good for you, so I make sure to consume it frequently. It may take more time and it causes some of my followers to panic more while they wait, though, that’s a bit of a downside. Oh, and I guess bones can make good storage for some sneaky poison. Even fingernails and hair follicles, who’d have thought?
Gotou: I don’t think hair would have much nutritional value in the first place. In all my years, I can never recall seeing a victim with their hair eaten.
Douma: Tsk, tsk! Clearly you haven’t done much metabolism research in advance. I was really impressed by how well Shinobu-chan understood how my digestion would work. Eating hair can do amazing things! Isn’t that right, Genya-kun?
Genya: ?????????
Gotou: Genya-kun!?
Genya: What am I doing here?
Gotou: I don’t think you’re supposed to be here. Isn’t there, you know, another side? The other direction?
Genya: What are you doing here? Did you die?
Gotou: I’m here doing research on demon metabolism and how they get stronger by consuming flesh.
Douma: What can you tell us about what up with having your friend feed you hair you found on the floor in Chapters 170-171, Genya-kun?
Genya: I’m not a demon!! Why the hell are you asking me?
Douma: ‘Hell’! Haha, good one!
Gotou: How do you even know about that? You were dead almost a full volume before that. And Genya’s different, he’s not a case study in how demons consuming humans works!
Douma: Are you certain?
Gotou: I hear the term get thrown around a lot that he’s ‘half-demon’, but—
Genya: I’m not a demon!!!
Gotou: --how would that even work? That would imply that one of his parents had to be a demon, and that—
Genya: What did you say about my mother!?!
Gotou: What? Nothing—
Genya: You say that to my face! You just trying saying something about my mother to my face! My mother never actually ate any flesh, you got that? She doesn’t deserve any of this!
Gotou: Genya, calm down, what—
Douma: I see we’re learning nothing about hair at all. Maybe Kokushibou-dono would provide better commentary on that?
Genya: Mom? Mo-o-o-o-m? Are you down here somewhere?
Gotou: And there he goes… wait, did you say Kokushibou? Upper Moon One? Oh no—he—he didn’t want me bothering him, he did not agree to another interview—
Douma: He-e-e-e-e-y, Kokushibou-dono! How did that work with Genya-kun eating your hair? Hair can be nutritious, right?
Kokushibou: You would gain… nothing… from consuming human hair… it’s not… flesh… you wasted your energy digesting it…
Douma: Aww, cutting it off them would had been sad, though.
Kokushibou: Demon hair… like demon weapons… is made… from our unique cells. It’s not dead… like human locks. Because that boy ate my live cells… it affected him…
Gotou: Yes, because he had a very, very unique metabolism, analyzed separately in this post. To be perfectly clear, Genya is completely human with cells that could temporarily transform, and he never consumed human flesh.
Kokushibou: He… vexes me…
Gotou: Um… while I’ve got you here, you’re one of the longest lived demons, clocking in at over three, maybe four centuries. Do you have any estimate of how many humans you’ve consumed?
Kokushibou: ……I see in… Chapter 100… that you are 23 years old?
Gotou: That is correct.
Kokushibou: Do you bother… remembering how many meals… you’ve had in a mere 23 years?
Gotou: I’m very sorry to have bothered you.
Douma: Kokushibou-dono’s ancient compared to the rest of us! But if I tried, I could probably recall. Let’s see. One, two, three, four…
Gotou: Is that? Your finger in your brain? Oh—ohhh—that is disgusting---I really don’t need to know numbers that badly, please stop. Is there maybe just some average you can give me for the Upper Moons instead? Like how many you’d eat in a month?
Douma: I wish I could, but a certain someone was an annoying outlier and didn’t like to eat so many humans. He made me worry all the time about his health.
Gotou: Really? Who might that be?
Douma: Hello-o-o-o-o-? Akaza-dono? Yoohoo! He spends all his time with his wife now and never answers when I call, it makes me so sad. Akaza-dono did eat humans, plenty of strong ones, but any time he wasn’t under orders from Muzan he liked to spend his time training instead of eating. Fanbook #1 says he did that way more than eating!
Gotou: Training? What sort of training?
Douma: Similar things to what your Corp members did, I imagine. Doing squats, throwing punches, things like that.
Gotou: Then demon muscles had similar function to human muscles, and could be strengthened through hard work? That’s surprising.
Douma: I know, right? I’ll let you in on a secret, I don’t think it was the physically repetition that did anything. I think it was his willpower getting honed and shaping his muscles.
Douma: I had to focus when I acquired new skills too, like breaking down poisons. A lot of sad, lowly demons, like that Hand Demon fellow? They focus as hard as they can in their desperation, or focus on some strong emotion or attachment or whatever, and they grow and develop because of it. Sometimes all their weak bodies can manage is an ugly mutation, but that’s proof enough of how much focus they had.
Gotou: That sheds a lot of light on Nezuko, actually.
Douma: Shed “light” on Nezuko-chan, hahaha! Sunlight! You humans are all so witty!
Gotou: Speaking of willpower, I’ve got one more interview I need to get to down here. Of all the demons I have records of, only Nezuko went her whole time as a demon without consuming any human flesh, although she did go through moments of berserk cravings for it. It’s possible that other demons were killed before they could consume anything, but typically they will consume flesh as soon as possible, which is why its common for their family and close relations to be among the first ones killed. Tomioka-san even mentioned in Chapter 1 that these close relations are especially nutritious.
Gotou: A demon about as old as Kokushibou, if not older, is a special case of her own. She was one of the only demons we know of to have escaped Kibutsuji’s curse and acted in dependently of him, including having created a demon of her own after two hundred years of trying. Most notably to our purposes, she trained herself to subsist on small amounts of blood, after having survived on corpses and wild animals for a time, according to the extensive Taisho Secrets at the end of Volume 21.
Tamayo: I explained this in more detail to Tanjirou-san in Chapter 15, but I went on to purchase blood from poor people, and extracted it in ways that wouldn’t be harmful to them. The one demon I created, Yushirou, could subsist on even less. I gained enough self-control that I could treat injured humans without feeling tempted into a berserk state.
Gotou: I was just talking to Douma about willpower making demons capable of accomplishing new physical developments. Was that how you were able to gain this state? I heard you even enjoy a cup of tea now and then.
Tamayo: Yes, I’ve taken a liking to it. I’d offer you some if not for this, you know, being hell. It’s nothing like the hell I went through when first resisting consuming humans, though. My demon body refused to take anything but fresh human flesh at first, but in the hardest moments, I always remembered a kind demon hunter who said he believed in me and my desire to defeat Kibutsuji Muzan. I believe Nezuko may have summoned her strength to resist the call of her demon cells in a similar way; she knew she had her brother there to rely on. Once she mastered something as remarkable as resisting the need for human flesh, it gave her the freedom to prioritize other developments.
Gotou: You spent centuries researching demon cells, especially how demons may break down and metabolize poisons.
Tamayo: I had not studied the metabolism of poisons until working with Shinobu-san. The medicine we concocted for Kibutsuji was only possible thanks to her work, and I couldn’t had worked with many of those wisteria-based substances on my own. I feel I was only there to fill in the gaps of her brilliant understanding.
Gotou: You’re very humble. I would pass along my thanks and compliments to Shinobu-sama too, but I’m pretty sure she’s not down here. On that note, did Genya-kun go back home?
Tamayo: He did after a nice reunion with his mother just now, it was very sweet. Shizu-san and I get along well, after all, we both carry similar guilt.
Gotou: Wait, was his mother a demon? That means Wind-sama’s mother was too? Wait?? What??
Tamayo: The worst hell I went through, or that any demon has gone through, is to realize what you’ve eaten after the hunger-driven madness clears. Being similar to your own cells, they’re easy on a volatile new anatomy to break down and digest. That’s why many demons may have driven themselves to forget everything all over again, or to twist their personalities to justify the horror, saying that because they ate the hearts of their loved ones and because demon flesh can live forever, then they never truly killed them. The truth always remained untwisted for me, and to this day, it torments me more than anything in this underworld can try.
Gotou: …
Tamayo: You should wake up now, Gotou. You’ve been through a lot; the nightmares must be taxing on your health. Please remember to eat well.

Ello!, I hope you are doing fine. May I request a pro hero bakugou with a housemaid reader: Where bakugou flirts with the reader everyday once he comes back from work and the reader get flustered, one day the reader asks bakugou out and he agrees, so soon they start dating. That may be alot and I am sorry thank you for your time.
the housekeeper's final job
Genre: fluff
A katsuki bakugo x reader
a/n: I've been watching the sitcom called 'the nanny' and this request reminded me so much about it so this would be heavily inspired! I kind of altered it too, hope that’s okay! Hope you enjoy this, baby!
Out of all the housekeepers who applied and got interviewed, pro hero Dynamight chose you.
He chose you for two reasons, one because you had all the qualifications he needed for his place.
And two, was because you were pretty.
But he would never admit that.
Anyway, he didn't need a live-in housekeeper. he just needed someone to clean it and take care of the place when he was out on missions.
Even though he first instructed you to come over only when he's away, he's the one who greets you at the door
Which surprises you because isn't he supposed to be off to work by now?
Honestly, when he's there, you wouldn't able to do much work.
Bakugo didn't mind honestly, in fact, he was the one bringing up conversation, thoroughly distracting you from your duties.
At first, it was very awkward small talk, a "the weather looks nice," here and a "how are you doing," there.
But as time progressed, small topics like that turned to anecdotes about other houses you cleaned or bakugo's latest mission (where he swiftly dealt with the villains like it was nothing)
Those friendly conversations took a more vulnerable turn when you decided to tell bakugo about what you feel about him while you pretended to polish his kitchen island.
"you know, I sort of like this guy," you suddenly blurted out. This caused the pro hero to perk up from his seat on the couch.
"hah? You like someone?" he said, you'd mistaken his tone as teasing but really, his tone was more in disbelief than anything.
you like someone? Who was it?
"yeah," you replied, glancing up to see the back of his head from where you stood behind his kitchen island. "he's nice and respectable. He's a little rough around the edges but I can see he truly cares,"
You could see bakugo's shoulders start to sag, "yeah and what are you gonna do? Confess to him?" he asked, his voice a tad bit softer than what he normally used.
Your breath hitched. Now was your chance. "yes, definitely,"
Bakugo finally gathered up the courage to look at you. "why are you telling me this, extra? What do you even want me to do about it?"
Bakugo's eyes widened in shock as he watched as you approached him, leaning in and taking his hand.
"I want you to accept my confession, mister Bakugo. Can we go out for coffee sometime?"
Bakugo's shock quickly turned to genuine happiness. He intertwined your fingers together.
"fine, I can't really refuse when it comes to you,"
And that is all! I really can't think of anything for bakugo's final line so I hope what I came up with suffices. Hope you guys enjoy this! Love you guys 💖❤️

The Wrong Lifetime — Fourteen // Wanda Maximoff
chapter thirteen | story masterlist | main masterlist | wattpad | epilogue
author’s note: the last chapter is finally here! i hope you like it 😊
There were many times when I'd get distracted by thoughts of Wanda.
I could be going for a walk and remember that time she tripped over the flat pavement, almost bringing me down with her. I could be shopping for stationary and remember that time she almost bought the whole shop in one visit. I could be sitting by the water fountain and remember that time she tried to make a wish, only to drop her whole purse in it.
This time, I'd just woken up to the sun streaming through my curtains. I rolled over to an empty bed, hand brushing against the cold sheets as they expected more. For some reason, my subconscious decided to taunt me with a memory taking place just after we'd first made love in her room...
"I love you so much," Wanda told me with an enchanting smile.
I turned to face her, one arm comfortable under the pillow as the other rested outside the duvet, covering my bare chest. She raised her hand, pushing a strand of hair behind my ear before resting her hand there. I smiled at the contact and felt a warmth spreading all over me at the affectionate gaze she sent my way.
"I know, love, you only said it several times," I teased lightly, making her chuckle. "I love you, too, though, in case you didn't know."
She sighed contently, eyes closing. I admired how beautiful she looked with her hair sprawled over her bare shoulders, smile on her lips and freckles dusting her skin. Her touch still ghosted my body, taste still embedded between my lips, scent still wavering in my nose. She was permanent and I was certain she'd never leave.
"We should probably get up in case somebody comes to check on us," she said, interrupting my moment of admiration.
Her eyes flickered open slowly, blue with golden flecks glistening right back at me. Suddenly, anything that happened after this didn't matter to me. For once, I appreciated where we were, what we had and nothing more or less. No wedding, no future... just now.
"We should," I agreed regretfully, though her leg moved closer to mine and made me wish we could stay here longer. "I wish we didn't have to."
She smiled halfheartedly, hand moving down my cheek, caressing the skin, before they rested at my chin. She outlined my lips with her thumb before leaning forward and stealing a kiss.
"Can't we have a few more minutes?" she asked, lips brushing mine as she spoke.
She was making it very hard to deny her and judging from the playful smirk on her lips, she knew that.
"I guess we can," I agreed quietly, making her smile with satisfaction.
She rolled on top of me, capturing my lips in a kiss as her bare chest pressed to mine and my hand found her waist for support. As usual, the effect she had on me was indescribable and I couldn't imagine us ever leaving the bed. I knew for sure that I'd never been happier than I was in that moment.
It was such a perfect moment, but it haunted me. Nothing felt right without her. She'd overwhelmed all of my senses and remained, even when I didn't have her by me in person. The wedding was literally in a few weeks, but I hadn't managed to get over her.
How could I be her maid of honour when I could barely speak to her? Not without wanting to curl in a ball and cry afterwards. Every thing I did seemed to be filled with memories of her. She was inescapable.
A groan left my lips as I dragged my hand down my face with frustration. I couldn't let her get to me yet again. I had an interview with the local paper today. The last thing I needed was Wanda as a distraction.
So, with that lovely thought lingering in my mind, I dragged myself out of bed to get ready for the day ahead.
—
Press interviews weren't something I was used to.
Whenever Y/B/N had them with journalists for his books, I wasn't present. The only thing I heard was when he came back and told me how it went, then I proceeded to read about it in the paper the next day.
I was sat in Steve's office at Maximoff Publishing with Steve sat by my side, sending me a supportive smile. A journalist from the local paper sat before us, notebook and pen in hand as he watched on with curious eyes.
"So, Y/N," he began. "I'll start with the obvious, if you don't mind."
I glanced at Steve who nodded encouragingly. Clearing my throat, I looked to the journalist. "Sure thing."
He smiled and glanced at his notebook before asking, "How does it feel to be published? You're Pietro Maximoff's first female author."
"An author who happens to be female," I corrected, hoping I didn't come off as rude. "And that isn't something that should be new, in my opinion. It should be normalised."
He nodded, noting it down in his notebook. "Controversy... I like it."
Swallowing hard, I resisted the urge to roll my eyes.
"I think the readers would like to know how you managed to score a publisher," he began his next question. "How exactly did you get noticed amongst the many authors that look to be published?"
Okay, not so difficult, I could answer that.
"Well, it was actually my–" I paused, Wanda's face flashing to mind. Okay, maybe a little difficult.
"Your...?" the journalist prompted.
I blinked, attempting to find my words.
"Wanda," Steve answered, starting me off.
I looked to him with grateful eyes before looking back to the journalist. "Right. Yes. Wanda."
"Your brother's fiancé, right?" the journalist asked for clarification.
"Yes," I answered, with an accidental clipped tone. "She... she was the one who gave my work to her brother. Asked him to look at it. And the rest is history."
The journalist was making notes as I spoke, nodding and humming in response, before looking to me with raised brows.
"So, the wedding," he said, making me wince subtly. "Are you excited?"
Forcing a smile, I said, "Ecstatic."
"How does it feel to have your two families uniting?" he asked, and I chewed on my lips, unsure how to respond.
"I– er–"
"Are you afraid that Y/B/N marrying Wanda may put him in Pietro's good graces?" he interrupted eagerly, leaning forward in his seat.
I opened my mouth to answer, but I didn't know what to say that wouldn't land me in hot water or make me look like a jealous sibling. Glancing to Steve questioningly, he thankfully noticed my speechlessness and gave the journalist a warning stare.
"Can you stay on topic, please?" he asked the keen journalist. "Y/N is here to talk about her book and nothing more."
"Okay, okay," the journalist gave in, making me exhale slowly. "What's next in store for your readers, Y/N? A sequel, perhaps?"
"I'm not sure," I answered truthfully. "I'm still in awe at the reception from the first one."
He nodded, note taking as he listened. "How many books do you think you'll get out of your career before getting married like your brother?"
I raised my eyebrows with disbelief. But I didn't get to answer as he was already moving onto his next question.
"Are you not worried about getting married? You know, men don't like smart women."
Narrowing my eyes at him, I clenched my fists by my side and was very close to strangling him before we were interrupted. A servant whom I recognised from home knocked on the door and earned everyone's attention.
"Oh, tell him to go away," the journalist said dismissively, waving his hand.
Steve looked to me and I plastered a bitter smile on my lips as I glanced at the journalist.
"I'd let him in if I were you," I told Steve, and he seemed to understand that I was about to pummel the journalist if I wasn't distracted, because he nodded and motioned for the servant to enter.
The journalist sighed rudely and I clenched my jaw before looking to the servant with a quirked brow. He looked out of breath, panting for air and face flushed red.
"Did you run here?" I realised, cocking my head to the side with confusion.
He nodded, straightening up and attempting to catch his breath. "Yes, Miss Y/L/N. Very sorry to interrupt, but your mother insisted I hurry."
My eyes widened. "Oh, God, what happened? Is she okay?"
"Kind of," he answered, before clarifying, "The wedding between your brother and Miss Maximoff has been cancelled."
"What?!" everyone in the room asked at the same time.
What did he mean the wedding had been cancelled?! Wanda and Y/B/N weren't going to get married?
"I don't know the details," the servant got out quickly. "I just know that your mother sent me to fetch you as soon as possible. She's distraught and requires you home immediately."
I nodded instantly, already making a move to stand up, then I remembered where I was.
"You mustn't publish anything you just heard," I told the journalist with a stern finger, but he seemed over the moon at the news.
"Go, Y/N, your mother needs you," Steve said, resting a hand on my shoulder as he, too, stood up. He side-eyed the journalist as he added, "I'll take care of this tool."
At that, the journalist's eyes widened with fear and judging from the smirk on Steve's lips, I knew things would be okay.
"Thank you," I told him, hugging him quickly, before looking to the servant. "I'll go now. Thank you."
After giving the servant some money to grab a treat and calm him from his breathless state, I got a carriage home with my mind racing a million thoughts a minute.
Why was the wedding off? My mum was distraught, according to the servant, so that could only mean it hadn't been her choice. Was it Y/B/N? Had he broken it off? Or maybe it was Wanda? But no. She'd never do that. She wouldn't hurt her family like that.
I wasn't sure what it was, but I definitely didn't know how to feel. This could either be heavily in my favour or go against me in the worst way possible...
When I arrived home, I found my family in the dining room. My mum was sat down, upset and shaking her head in her hands, tear marks on her face. My dad was sat beside her, rubbing her back soothingly and whispering calming things to her as my brother stood to the side, looking apologetic and uncomfortable.
"It's okay, mum, it'll be okay," he was saying to her from across the table. "It's not a big deal. I can find somebody–"
"Hello...," I began awkwardly, standing in the doorway and hesitant to move forward. "I just got the news from our servant. What happened?"
"Oh, Y/N, you shouldn't have–" my father began regretfully, before my mum slammed her hand on the table and glared at my brother.
"Y/B/N broke off the engagement!" she shouted with frustration.
"There you go...," my dad mumbled before returning his attention to his wife.
"Mum, I–"
"You did what?!" I cut Y/B/N off with raised brows. "You broke off the engagement? You dumped Wanda?"
He looked to me with sad eyes. "Y/N–"
"You idiot!" I shouted, feeling angry as I imagined the effect this must have had on the Maximoff family. "What the hell is wrong with you?! Why would you–?!"
He grabbed my waving arm and dragged me out of the dining room, making me shove him off when we reached the hall.
"Why the hell did you break it off?!" I yelled at him with a glare. "Why would you–"
"I didn't!" he whisper-shouted back, looking down at me with a downcast expression. "She did!"
My anger faded as I realised he was telling the truth. He looked genuinely hurt, eyes glassy and a frown on his lips. Wanda was the one to break it off? What?
"She broke it off with me," he elaborated quietly, so our parents couldn't hear. "She told me this morning. She said she didn't love me and that she couldn't marry me."
I swallowed hard, looking away from him momentarily. "Why did you tell mum and dad that it was you who broke up with her?"
He pinched his forehead with agitation. "Because it looks a lot less foolish if I say it was me rather than her. She doesn't love me, Y/N. She never did."
I risked looking at him, seeing his disheartened expression. Part of me felt guilty because I knew it was my fault this had happened, but I couldn't exactly say that to him, so I stayed quiet. He shook his head once more before walking away, leaving me standing there with shock.
"Er, Miss Y/L/N?"
I spun around when one of our servants approached me.
"I know now isn't the best time," she began, "but a letter came for you earlier. I left it on your desk as you were at work."
Nodding, I offered the servant a halfhearted smile before watching her leave. There was so much to unpack right now...
I headed upstairs and to my room to see what letter was here for me. But I was finding it hard to focus since all that was on my mind was the broken engagement and Y/B/N and Wanda... I needed to see her. What the hell was I doing here?
Planning on going to see Wanda as soon as possible, I grabbed the letter from my desk with the intention of reading it on the way out, but then I recognised the handwriting on the front and paused at my desk.
It was Wanda's handwriting.
I hurried to tear open the envelope, wondering what she had to say. It was no doubt related to the broken engagement.
Dearest Y/N,
I hope that you manage to read this letter before you hear the news, but knowing our families, you'll read it afterwards. In which case, you will know that I have broken off the engagement with Y/B/N.
It was the right thing to do. I chose to do it and I'm sorry if it's caused tension between your brother and your family, but I knew that I couldn't go forward with it when I'm in love with you. I'm not expecting you to come back to me and run away together all dramatically – this isn't about that.
I did this for myself. I'm not in love with your brother and I never was. He should have known that. He had to. Because if not, I'm afraid I broke his heart. And that's the last thing I wanted.
I also did this for you. I need you to know that I'm not heartless or horrible and I didn't expect you to sacrifice anything for me. Cheating on your brother with you... I never meant for this to happen, nor did I mean to get in the way of you both. Falling in love with you was completely accidental, but I don't regret it.
I don't want to go on too much, but I just needed you to know the truth, from me, that I am truly sorry for causing you such pain. I'm still in love with you and I'll never forget what we had. In another lifetime, maybe we could have worked. I'm certain that you were always perfect for me, as was what we had. You are magic, Y/N. I just wasn't powerful enough to keep you.
When I finished reading, I flipped the page over, expecting to find more, but it was blank. She'd ended it there and I didn't know what to think. My heart was racing, mind adjusting too slowly for my liking. She'd broke it off with him for me. I knew she loved me, but I guess I'd never realised just how much.
After recovering from my shock, I put the letter away and left for Wanda's, not bothering to tell my family where I was going. My dad was attempting to console my disappointed mother as Y/B/N moped around somewhere else, so I took that as my chance to nip out without them noticing.
I was trying to plan what to say to her – I didn't even know what I wanted to say to her. She said she didn't expect me to get back with her, and even without Y/B/N and their engagement in the way, we still couldn't be together. Not like how we wanted to be. But I wanted to. I wanted her. All this time without her had been heartbreaking – I didn't want to leave her again. I didn't know the specifics of how we would work, but we could work. We had to.
When I reached her house, it was her mother who opened the door. And that's when I realised that I wasn't sure if she blamed Y/B/N or her daughter for the engagement breaking apart.
"Iryna, hi," I greeted with a nervous smile. "I'm sorry if this is a bad time–"
"Y/N, I'm glad you're here," she cut me off, immediately pulling me in for a hug. "Thank you for coming."
I nodded with mild confusion, returning the hug, before pulling away.
"I'm so sorry for the pain Wanda has caused to your family," she said regretfully. "I hope that your parents aren't as distraught as we are."
I eyed her strangely, still not sure what Wanda had told her. Either way, I didn't bother questioning it as my urgency to see Wanda was overpowering my curiosity.
"It's okay, Iryna, there's no need to apologise," I reassured her. "My family will be okay... I just thought I'd come and check in on Wanda. It's a lot, what happened."
She nodded sympathetically. "Thank you, sweetheart. You're such a good friend to her." She stood to the side to let me in. "Go on up. She's in her room. Hasn't come out since this morning."
I offered a small, awkward smile Iryna's way before letting myself in and going upstairs to Wanda's room. My palms were sweaty and my mouth was dry – stupidly juxtaposed – when I stopped before Wanda's door. On the way over here, I still hadn't decided what to say. I figured it would just come to me when I saw her. One could hope.
Knocking on the door, I heard her sweet, accented voice give me permission to enter. My stomach flipped at the sound and I did as she said. Closing the door behind me, I turned and saw Wanda sat at a stool before a canvas.
Noticing I didn't say anything, she glanced over her shoulder casually, probably expecting a family member. She widened her eyes when she realised it was me and immediately stood up, smoothing out her paint-covered smock in an attempt to look neater. The simple action warmed my heart – she was adorable and I couldn't help but smile.
"Hi," I said quietly.
She cleared her throat, eyes darting around nervously. "Hey. I didn't– what are– hi."
I let my eyes wander, admiring her messy ponytail and the strokes of paint on her face that she definitely wasn't aware of. She was stunning, even with her confused eyes and pursed lips. Better yet, her hand was ring-free and I was reminded of the fact that she wasn't engaged anymore.
"I assume you're here because you read the letter," she began apologetically, but I didn't let her finish because the longer I was in her presence, the more I realised I wanted to kiss her.
Approaching her, I found her eyes before pressing my lips to hers. My hands cupped her cheeks as I held her close, revelling in her taste and scent and touch. She was quick to react, her fingers curling around my waist and tugging me towards her, squeezing our bodies together. Breathing became a problem and we regretfully had to pull away, but remained close enough to exchange breaths and swim in each other's eyes. I'd never been more relieved to see the colour green.
"You're not mad," she realised, looking between my eyes as if trying to search for some anger.
"How can I be mad that you broke off your engagement for me, knowing we can never be together in the way that you deserve?" I asked with disbelief.
She smiled beautifully, making my heart flutter in my chest. "You still love me."
I stole another kiss from her lips. "I never stopped, Wanda. Of course I still love you."
She rested her forehead to mine and closed her eyes peacefully. "Thank you for coming back."
I laughed, feeling tears brim my eyes. "I'm not leaving again, love. We'll find a way to make this work. I promise you that."
Wanda Maximoff deserved the world. And I was going to give it to her in this lifetime and beyond.
