‘Huff, huff… HUFF’
You arrived at the bookshop that you’d been waiting ages to see, it was the biggest one in Tokyo, the one in your local town paled in comparison to this creme de la creme of bookstores. You can’t believe you actually made it just as the heavy downpour of rain you’d been expecting started to batter the city. You recount what your childhood friend had said about the bookshop, he’d told you when he moved, to go to [bookshop name] and he’d find you again… it’s been so long that you can only remember the nickname you’d given him… ‘Gi’ and his sweet smile you used to hold dear. There’s no way I’ll see him again though, you see that now.
‘Ding’, the doorbell cries out as you open the door. A cold shiver runs through you and instinctively you rub your arms as you look around. Wow what an amazing bookshop… you wonder in and walk over to the [insert favourite genre] section, the one section you visit before anything else, there are so many books in this section. I’ll have to make a habit of coming here.
You are so engrossed in looking at the books that you don’t notice a guy standing right next you and end up crashing into him. You stumble onto him and he - unprepared for a random person falling on him - stumbles back and you end up falling on top of the guy… ‘Arghhh… ow’, oh no… ‘Did I just fall on someone?!?’ you whisper sharply to yourself, you start to freak out. You quickly open your eyes and find you are laying on someone’s body but not like in the movies where you fall on their chest and then your eyes meet and it’s really cute, NO, you have your head on his stomach and not even facing towards the ceiling, your face is embedded in someone’s stomach. ‘AHH!’, you let an embarrassed wail and rush to get your face off the poor guy, your ears start to become hot and redden as you profusely apologise to him, your eyes squint shut from being too embarrassed to face him.
You finally have the courage to open your eyes again slowly once you feel you’ve apologised enough to find a twenty something year old man with black hair pulled back messily into a ponytail, his eyes stare right into yours… seemingly dumbfounded and a light shade of pink covers his cheeks. He’s lying against a bookcase at an angle so awkward that you can’t help but let out a small giggle. You start to blush too. ‘…Sorry, sorry, haha. Are you ok?’ you nervously say to him.
He just sits there in silence.
You shakily stammer out ‘Uhhh p-please answer! Are you ok? Did… did you hit your head?’, worried you did more damage than you thought. ‘Huh- no, I’m fine. Ugh, you hit me pretty hard. Did I… hurt you at all?’ ‘No, no, not at all… rather, it was actually a-a soft landing’ you say to him trying not to laugh. ‘Oh…’ the messy haired guy says processing what you had just said, once he finally realised you’d fallen on his stomach his cheeks turned a dark shade of red, ‘Sorry, sorry! I didn’t mean to make you embarrassed… Oh yeah, I should help you up shouldn’t I, I’m such an idiot.’.
You rise to your feet and help him up onto his, he wobbly gets up and thanks you. ‘No need to thank me, I was the one who fell on you! Still, your welcome haha. By the way, I didn’t get your name, what is it?’ ‘…Tomioka Giyuu… What’s yours?’ ‘Oh, I’m L/N Y/N.’ ‘You can call me Giyuu if you want to be informal.’ Giyuu says in way that almost sounds like he’s pleading for you to call him by his name. ‘Okay… Giyuu.’.
Standing there awkwardly you begin to notice how good looking Giyuu is…
His messy black hair that beautifully contrasts his pale complexion, his blue eyes you could get lost in, his slender hands that look soft and smooth… You can feel yourself developing some kind of warm feeling, a warm feeling you’d felt once before so long ago, almost like a life time ago. This feeling burns in your chest.
It’s almost like I’ve met him before…
Giyuu’s throat clearing brings you back from your trance like state. Your face starts to feel hot and a lump forms in your throat that renders your ability to talk properly, ‘I-I uhh, you- I mean…’ you stutter out. ‘I-it’s fine… we should both go get some fresh air.’ Giyuu says, light blush still covering his cheeks.
Forgetting that it’s raining the two of you walk to the door. ‘I forgot it was raining…’ Giyuu says nonchalantly with a deadpan expression, you just have to laugh at him, he looks at you in an offended way and he can’t help but at least curl the corners of his lips into a vague smile, from the few minutes you’d spent in near him you’d figured out laughing wasn’t really his style. ‘I have to admit I forgot too though, it’s not just you.’ You tell him with a small giggle, ‘What shall we do then?’, Giyuu turns towards to section we’d just come from and says ‘it’s raining so let’s sit and read for a while.’, ‘Good idea.’.
Giyuu goes and sits down next to a pile of books you assume are his and you pick your book, a [Insert favourite genre] book, and take a seat across from Giyuu. Your eyes catch for a second before you both embarrassedly look away. You start your book but can’t help but steal glances up from your book every few minutes… soon an hour passes, then two.
After hours of getting lost in your book you finally finish to find him sleeping sitting up. Your heart starts to beat fast, he is so cute sleeping. You stare at him for a few minutes taking in all of his beauty, scanning over every little detail…
He wakes up suddenly and looks straight into your eyes, you’d been caught. You quickly look away and pretend you’d just happened to catch his strong gaze by accident which was obviously not the case, the both of you knew but ignored that.
‘I umm, uh sorry haha...’ You nervously mumble. Giyuu starts with ‘How long was I asleep?’, completely ignoring the thing that’d just occurred. You reply awkwardly, ‘Half an hour or so I think…’, ‘Oh… okay’ says visibly bothered.
‘The rain should have st-‘, Giyuu cuts you off…
‘Y/N… I know this is sudden and you probably don’t remember me but… do… you… do you remember me..?’ I remember you like I saw you just yesterday, you used to call me Gi’ because you couldn’t pronounce my name properly...’ your heart starts to race hard, it thumps loudly against your chest, your head spins, what he’d just said shocks you so much you stand up and stutter out ‘I-I… I…’ as you back up, the memories come flooding back crystal clear now, you remember everything. Not knowing how to react you shout ‘I don’t know, sorry- sorry-‘ and run out confusing Giyuu. ‘Wait!’ Giyuu concerned yells after you.
‘DING’ the bell cries after you’d ran out, Giyuu runs out after you and you turn around with tears pricking your eyes. Suddenly warm arms embrace you in a hug, you are shocked and pull away but then you go limp, tears start steadily streaming down your cheeks and onto his chest.
‘You- you left me behind.’ you blubber into his chest, ‘I know… Y/N, I’m sorry, I didn’t want to though, you must know that.’ He softly says out of character, ‘I know…’ you quietly reply trying not to sob, ‘I’m sorry, I asked you a stupid question and didn’t even wait for the right moment, it must have been confusing… I was just so happy to see and be around you that I couldn’t hold back any longer.’ ‘It’s ok, I was just shocked…’ you look up to him, sniff and say ‘Sorry… I must look like a snotty mess.’ and then let out laugh. ‘No, don’t talk such nonsense…’
You are beautiful.’ Giyuu gently wipes your tear stained cheeks with a worried look. ‘Please don’t cry anymore Y/N, everything is ok.’ He tells you.
Giyuu whispers ‘Y/N, I’ll never leave you behind again...’.
‘Promise..?’
‘Promise.’

Thinking of You
Pairing: Giyuu Tomioka x reader
Warnings: swears, Giyuu would say fuck fight me on this, blunt Giyuu, oblivious reader, very oblivious, one wound thats pretty bad but it turns out okay i promise!
Summary: You’re on a mission with your new partner when he sustains an injury for an unbelievable reason.
A/N: ahhh thank you!!! that means so much to me!! I am so insecure about my writing but I am glad you like it!!!! also this was such a cute prompt I loved writing for it. I know there’s a lot of bad stuff going on in the news right now but hopefully this takes your mind off of it for even just a second <3 ily and enjoy!
EDIT: also all the credit for the prompt to @missmorosis!!!! thank you for the amazing prompts!!!!!!!!
Demon Slayer Masterlist
With a well placed swing of my sword, I decapitated the demon in one blow. The move was only possible thanks to my partner for this mission, Giyuu, but I was the one who finished her off.
We had been fighting this demon for quite some time, and spent even longer tracking her. She was very elusive. But now that she was gone, the village had no more worries.
I flicked my sword to clean it, then sheathed it at my side. I turned to Giyuu, smiling at him, but he didn’t smile back. Quite normal behavior from him, until he went and collapsed to the ground.
“Giyuu!” I yelled and rushed to his side. I looked him over and found out that his thigh had an incredibly deep cut, mostly likely from the demon’s claws. I immediately put pressure on it, pressing my hands to his thigh. “How did this happen?” I cried, feeling extremely guilty. We were supposed to be a team that helped each other and here my teammate was, bleeding out on the ground. “You were fine a second ago, what happened?”
“Fuck,” Giyuu muttered, propping himself up on his arms. He scooted back so that his back was against a nearby tree and I followed him, applying pressure all the while. When it was clear that Giyuu had nothing more to say, I got to work on his leg.
I pulled his hands over to apply pressure while I rolled up his pant leg. I took off my kimono and began to shred it. I was left in nothing but a thin tank top and pants, but I had bigger worries than that right now. The cut was pretty deep, and was steadily leaking blood. I had literally no tools at my disposal to stop the bleeding other than my shredded kimono. I placed wads of it at the cut and then tied them tightly. I waited a second to see if the pressure stopped the bleeding, but when a crimson red began to stain the fabric of my kimono, I knew otherwise.
“Shit!” I quickly pulled out another strip and started to make a tourniquet out of it. It was a risky last ditch move, but judging from Giyuu’s face, he couldn’t stand to lose much more blood. I secured the tourniquet quickly, effectively stopping the blood flow to his leg. “Okay, okay, okay,” I muttered like a mad man and stood up. I held out my arms for Giyuu to take, which he did, albeit groggily. “The town is five minutes away, we should be able to get you to a doctor in time to cauterize the wound so you don’t lose your leg.”
The sentence sent my stomach askew. How could this have happened? He was a Hashira for goodness sake, how did he sustain such a serious wound? I couldn’t remember him diving in or anything, but maybe that was the problem. I wasn’t focusing enough on my partner and know here we were.
I hauled Giyuu up, pulling his injured right side to my left. I wrapped his right arm around my shoulders and began to pull him along. He was heavy, I would admit, built entirely of muscle he probably trained years to get.
I was relatively new Slayer, still on watch from the higher ups. That’s why I had to take a partner on this mission, to make sure I could handle it on my own. I was surprised when Giyuu volunteered to go with me, seeing as we haven’t talked much. It was also a bit hard for me seeing that I had this huge crush on him. It was always hard for me to focus around him, so that may have been part of the issue.
So in all, if it wasn’t for me being so new and an absolutely terrible partner, Giyuu wouldn’t be in danger of losing his leg.
“I,” I stammered then steeled myself for what I was going to say. “I’m sorry, this is all my fault.”
“Yeah,” Giyuu lifted up his head to meet me with those serious eyes. “It is.”
Wow. Way to make me feel better.
“If I could just stop thinking about you, I wouldn’t have been so distracted-”
Wait. What?
“You- you think about me?” That was the only thing that could come out of my mouth at that moment. I was so taken aback by his blatant confession that I didn’t know what else to say.
Still staring into my eyes, he responded. “Well, duh. 24/7.”
I didn’t know what to say. He seemed so... serious. Not that Giyuu was the joking type it was just... he meant it. He really just told me he thought about me 24/7 and thought nothing of it. Nothing at all. It couldn’t be in a romantic way, could it?
I stomped that thought out immediately. It had to be the blood loss.
“No you don’t,” I scoffed and looked away. I picked up my pace, dragging him a little further.
“Yeah, I do. I think about you smiling or your hair-” he stopped to reach out and touch my hair. “So soft...”
Okay, it was the blood loss.
“I was so worried you would get hurt that I made a mistake, honestly quite stupid.”
“You were... worried about me?” I asked and glanced over to him. I looked back at the forest before us after, noting that it was thinning out. I could almost see the village from here.
“I always worry about you,” he responded factually. He scrunched his nose up, “It scares me when you fight, and nothing usually scares me.”
He was delusional. He had to be. There was no other explanation.
“No way,” I said more to myself than to him. “You’re lying.”
“Really, Y/n? I’m lying?” He scoffed. “Maybe I’m being a bit open, but I am not a liar.”
“Okay then tell me later when you’re not delusional from blood loss, okay?”
“Fine.”
“Fine.”
We lapsed into silence after that, hobbling to the town. Once we got there, the townsfolk immediately welcomed us in and gave Giyuu medical treatment. Luckily, because the town was so close, Giyuu did not lose his leg and ended up being fine. I ended up taking him to the Butterfly house to recuperate, the whole way we did not speak. I dropped him off and left soon after, called on another mission.
It was months before we saw each other again, and I had forgotten about our promise in the forest all that time ago. I was at the Butterfly house on business when he approached me in a hallway. I was just heading to bed when he pulled me to the side and spoke to me.
“Y/n,” he called. I stopped and let him catch up until we were face to face. The hallway was dim, the only light from a few small windows letting in the moonlight.
“Giyuu. How’s the leg?” I asked, a pang of guilt hitting me.
“Better.”
The tension between us was thick, permeating the air and making it feel stale warm.
“I thought about you everyday,” he whispered softly. “Everyday. I was so worried about you, if you were going to be okay without me.”
“Liar,” I whispered back.
He took a step forward, looming over me. “Am I?”
I stared at him until I couldn’t take it anymore. I looked to the ground and took a step back, my face hot. “Okay well, so what if you’re not lying I’m not sure what you’re trying to accomplish here.”
Giyuu laughed. “And Mitsuri says I am dense.” He took another step forward and lightly took my chin and angled it upwards. “I like you. Do you like me?” He said bluntly.
Absolutely speechless, I just nodded. In response, Giyuu smiled. The sight filled my heart with warmth.
And then he leaned down and kissed me.

secret child pt.3
part 1 | part 2
uwu, let’s fangirl at how much hibiki is a momma’s boy and how much he loves youu
i had a vision for this and my writing followed in a squiggly line
Another day, another training session with the water pillar, Tomioka Giyuu—also known as his “dad”.
Tomioka had taken him a few minutes away from home to an open field where the two could train better. Sighing to himself, Hibiki sat on an empty tree stump that hid him from the sun as he thought back to the conversation he had with his mom the other night.
“Mom, you’re beginning to fall in love with Tomioka.” Hibiki suddenly states as he watched your eyes widen. Words tried to fall from your mouth, but Hibiki could only manage a sigh.
“And I think Tomioka is falling in love with you too.” Hibiki finished off, setting the now dried plate aside.
You watched quietly as Hibiki continued to store the plates away. You hadn’t realized what was happening until Hibiki had confronted you and as much as you wanted to deny his words, it was the truth.
“Does that make you upset, Hibiki?” you asked quietly, Hibiki turning to glance over at you before averting them back onto the plate in his hands.
Even from the side of his face, you could see the conflicting emotions running through him.
“A bit,” he confessed before placing his dish on the table, turning over towards you. “I just don’t understand, mom. How could you still love him after everything he’s done to us? To you!” Hibiki cried, his hands thrown out infront of him as you watched him getting frustrated.
He never liked even the thought of Tomioka.
“I want you to be happy, mom. But Tomioka doesn’t deserve to come back into our lives after these 15 years without him. How could you let him in so easily?” Hibiki’s eyes burned angrily towards you, but you knew he only wanted the best for you.
“Hibiki-” before you could finish your sentence, Tomioka had walked back in, cutting the conversation short, and also leaving a slight tension between the two of you.
Staring at the male a few feet ahead of him, Hibiki frowned at the sight of him. Who does he think he is? Trying to wedge himself back into the family when he has done nothing but harm.
“Hibiki, time to get started,” Tomioka shouted from under the sun before Hibiki let out a groan before jogging over towards the male.
Standing in front of the man, Hibiki’s thoughts ran back to the fact that Tomioka was trying to woo his mother—after everything he had done to her. It left a bitter taste in his mouth.
‘What a loser,’ Hibiki thought, glancing away.
“Is something bothering you?” Tomioka asked, a raised brow as he studied Hibiki’s frown. “It’s nothing, let’s just get started,” Hibiki grumbled, trying to stay polite to the man training him. Though he wanted nothing more to do with Tomioka, Hibiki respected him as his student, and because you wanted him to be nice or you would get mad.
“I don’t want to train you with your emotions in the way,” Tomioka informed flatly, causing Hibiki’s eye to twitch.
“If you really wanna know why, I’ll tell you why. If you haven’t noticed, I don’t want anything to do with you outside of training, so stop trying to come into my life. Especially my mom’s,” Hibiki confessed angrily as Tomioka watched him unphased.
Ever since Tomioka had met Hibiki, he could tell the child had a dislike towards him—mainly because Hibiki had fought him during their first encounter.
“You’re always trying to be all sweet with her by buying her gifts and all, and while she might appreciate it, know that I’ll be here to make sure that you will never come back into the family,” Tomioka glanced at the younger male with a raised brow; he sure knew how to choose his words.
“Oh, so are you upset at me?” Tomioka questioned, already aware of the young man’s answer, but decided to push him a little.
“Don’t act stupid,” Hibiki responded as he quickly grabbed the wooden sword from the ground beside him, but Tomioka reacted just as fast, a wooden sword in his own hands, blocking Hibiki’s attack. “I’m going to make sure my mom will never fall into your hands again.”
Hibiki was fast with his sword and made significant attacks, Tomioka observed but found that whenever Hibiki was frustrated and angry, it left him with a lot of openings.
Tomioka swung his sword with such power he knocked Hibiki back. Though Hibiki wasn’t the greatest swordsman, he was undoubtedly a lot better with his fists. With a swing, Hibiki landed a hit on Tomioka’s cheek, causing the older man to stumble backward, his cheek reddening.
“She loved you while you threw her out and left her struggling to live with your child,” Hibiki’s anger caused him to throw another punch, but Tomioka was faster and dodged the young male with a step.
Tomioka continued to side-step and dodge the younger male’s attacks, “Hibiki, I’m not going to fight you over this,” but Hibiki was quick as he grabbed Tomioka’s uniform top, pulling Tomioka towards him.
“Did you know she had to starve herself in order to provide for me? How desperate she was to find a job in order to keep me alive? To find a roof for me?” Hibiki shouted, voice cracking as tears filled his blue eyes. “Even after all these years, I can still remember her in the streets, begging for food, or change all for me to have a good life!”
Hibiki retracted his hand before landing another solid punch on Tomioka, causing him to fall backward onto the hard ground as Hibiki hovered over him, but Tomioka accepted the hit with a heavy heart, Hibiki’s tears slipping down his cheeks onto Tomioka’s.
“My mom would cry herself to sleep every night after I fell asleep, while she awaited another difficult day. I didn’t have the slightest clue of the troubles we went through because she gave me everything she had in order to make sure I was happy,” Hibiki pulled on Tomioka’s uniform with a shaky breath.
“Did you know that? Did you know what you had done? And you think you can love her so easily as if you didn’t cause this?” Tomioka knew, but he also didn’t.
“Hibiki, I’m sorry,” Tomioka whispered as Hibiki’s face became strained, “Sorry won’t change anything.”
As each tear fell from Hibiki’s eyes and fell onto Tomioka’s cheeks, he watched as the strong, stubborn 15 year old cried his heart out because of the guilt he carried.
Nothing was Hibiki’s fault, yet he carried the brunt of his mother’s hardship.
Before Hibiki could land another punch, Tomioka quickly grabbed the wooden sword beside him before landing a hit on the back oh Hibiki’s neck, causing the young man to pass out on his chest.
With a sigh, Tomioka stood up before lifting the unconscious Hibiki onto his back as he departed back towards the house where you were waiting for their return.
-
“Hibiki!” You cried as you ran over towards Tomioka, who had just arrived at your house. Placing a gentle hand on Hibiki’s forehead, Tomioka’s voice caught your attention, “He’s alright. We had a little spar that spiraled out of control,”
You finally glanced over at Tomioka before hovering your hand over his cheek, “Your cheek! And your lip is busted! Don’t tell me Hibiki did this?” Your stern mom voice was coming out as Tomioka flashed you a small smile.
“It’s my fault for pushing his buttons a bit,” Tomioka confessed as he walked into the house to lay Hibiki down on his futon before the two of you sat in the tatami room quietly together.
“What caused this?” you questioned as you leaned over to clean the cut on his lip. Tomioka’s blue eyes observed you before glancing away with a sigh.
“Hibiki told me about what happened after that day,” your hand retracted back towards you as you sat there with a saddened expression. “Oh,” was all you could manage as you set your small medical kit aside.
“I understand that it was wrong of me, but would it be wrong of me to want to love you now?” his question was full of honesty and though you weren’t expecting it to come from his mouth, you weren’t shocked to hear.
“Giyuu,” you started with a sigh. “As much as I’d love to try to have a real relationship with you, I don’t think I can, not yet,” you confessed, looking down at your hands.
“Not just because Hibiki isn’t too fond of you, but because of what had happened. I can’t let you come right in just after a week of spending some sort of time with each other after these hard 15 years.”
Tomioka nodded, “I understand.”
You gave a small smile, “Well, how much did Hibiki tell you? I swear, that boy doesn’t know when to keep his mouth shut.” you joke and it earns you a small chuckle from the male.
“He told me how hard you worked to provide for him.” Tomioka started with a soft smile, “He told me that you gave him a great childhood even though he knew you struggled to get by.”
You glanced back down, embarrassed of what Hibiki could have exposed, “That’s just what mom’s do for their children,” you chuckle.
“Even after 15 years, you’re still just as lovely as ever,” Tomioka confessed out of the blue, causing your cheeks to heat up, but just as quickly as the rose blush dusted your cheeks did they vanish as your locked gaze on him harden.
“Giyuu,” your sweet voice filled the air before your words came crashing down on him, “why did you throw me out?”
The sudden question made his eyes widen, a bold question indeed. Recollecting himself, Giyuu continued to hold your gaze. “I didn’t want that life. To have a child, be responsible for anything—for you or for our child, especially because you were just there for my pleasure.”
Your brows arched sadly and although you had suspected this answer, it hurt coming from the man himself.
Before you could reply, Tomioka quickly cut you off, “but I missed a big part of what could have been my life when I threw the two of you out.” Tomioka placed his hands in front of him before bowing to you, “I’m sorry for what I have done to you and Hibiki,”
“Giyuu, please, raise your head,” you scrambled as you reach over to lift him from the ground. When he finally sat back, tears filled your eyes as you stared into the blue ones that matched Hibiki’s.
Leaning over, you wrap your arms around the male with a single sob, “I wish you could have been apart of our lives.” Tomioka’s arms slowly wrapped around you as well as the two of you held each other in the silence, reminiscing on what could have been your life together.
“Hey, hands off my mom,” Hibiki’s sharp voice cut through the air as you jumped, quickly letting go of Tomioka to look at Hibiki.
“Hibiki, you’re awake!” you cried in relief as you stood to your feet, squeezing you against him. “Are you hurt? Are you feeling okay?” you worry before Hibikisqueezes his way out of your arms. “I’m fine, mom,” Hibiki responds before his gaze focuses on Tomioka.
“I heard everything,” he confesses, coming to sit down beside where you had sat. “Don’t act like your apology will solve everything. An apology can’t cure what 15 years of pain can do. My mom might be softer towards you, but it won’t be that easy,” Tomioka acknowledged Hibiki’s words.
The child was smart and, more importantly, loved his mother more than anything.
“But because my mom seems to love you so much and because I want to see her happy, I’ll do my best to treat you with more respect,” Hibiki gently bowed toward the male, before sending a glare, “but if you do anything wrong again, I won’t hesitate to jump on you-”
“Hibiki! You don’t need to say that!” you scold as Hibiki let out a playful smile towards you. Rolling your eyes, you place a loud kiss on Hibiki’s forehead before he groans of disgust.
Tomioka watched with the softest smile. He knew it was going to take a while, but to be rewarded with such a loving family, he wouldn’t mind however long it took.

Good day! Do you do headcanons for all Hashiras? If yes, then suddenly hashiras have a very self-contained s/o? That is, they keep all the negative emotions in themselves, they do not know how to cry, they tolerate everything, they do not talk about their problems and not a very good past, from which their health slightly deteriorates. If this is very bad, I apologize for disturbing you!
u got it anon!!
tw - mentions of self loathing, self depreciation, mentions of death, and negative thoughts!!
also yes ik that dating didn’t exist back in the taisho era but, for the sake of headcanons and writing, lets say it does
also sorry this took me so long adkfjdf a lot of pillars to cover
pillars w/ self contained s/o
Tomioka Giyuu
he’s one that wouldn’t notice for a while
he isn’t the most in tune with his emotions, expressing emotions, or reading other emotions
so if his s/o were to hide their emotions, he honestly wouldn’t notice until someone would point it out like
if kanroji or rengoku were to pull him aside and be like, “tomioka, did you see how sad s/o looked?”
“no, are they sad?”
and they would just give him a look that said are you fucking dumb because he had been with them for nearly half a year and hasn’t even thought to point out something about their emotions
from then on, he’d watch them more carefully
he’d notice more and more things, like how they always took the blame and never accepted any compliments, how they always changed the topic when something was asked about them or how never seemed to do anything but smile and make everyone else happy
and even with this information, he wouldn’t know how to approach them and confront them about it
because he does the same thing. he doesn’t show emotions or weakness, he doesn’t talk about his past, he’s detached from others and refuses to speak about it
but he realizes that this is his s/o, and he learned from doing that, it only made things worse for himself and those around him
so he very awkwardly tries to ease it into the conversation, because he wants them to open up instead of bottling in the emotions that will only hurt them in the future
it takes months, nearly a year to get them to open up, but he’s willing to be patient with them, because he understands this is difficult
Rengoku Kyoujurou
kyoujuro is on the more observant side, compared to the other pillars. he is good at noticing when someone’s mood is down and when they need comforting, so it won’t take him long to realize his s/o needs him
he offers time at first, seeing if they’re willing to open up about it on their own. he doesn’t want to peer pressure them into talking about their emotions, knowing that it could become worse if he did that
he doesn’t want to pry but he knows that if he doesn’t, then they’ll never talk to him about why they feel as though they aren’t strong enough or how they think that the death of their comrades and civilians are their fault
he understands some of the turmoil they go through and does his best to reassure them that it’s not their fault, you can’t save anyone and all that matters is that those you saved can keep on living
if it takes more than a few months for his s/o to think about opening up, he’ll sit them down for nightly talks to hopefully ease their mind
he’ll up the compliments, refusing to let them deny or refute them, complimenting everything about them in all honesty. from their skill set to their appearance and their personality
once his s/o will decide to open up, he’ll gladly welcome them with open arms.
he’ll listen to every word they say, wipe every tear they shed, hold them for every tremor, and offer comforting words for every disheartening thought.
he’s more in tune with his emotions, so he would make sure his s/o never felt these emotions again and would slowly help them open up and realize that it’s ok to ask for help and to be vulnerable.
Shinazugawa Sanemi
sanemi is brash, but he’s also caring.
it’s not the most obvious, but he definitely cares about his s/o more than others think
his brash nature is actually what might lead to self loathing and such in his s/o. with his quick and harsh retorts and blunt remarks that are brutally honest, it’s not surprise that it leads to doubts in his s/o about various things involving appearance and skill set.
if anything, sanemi will start noticing these traits in public or when they’re around his comrades. he’ll be able to point them out better when it’s the two of you alone, considering he’s only focusing on you and you’re responses and physical actions just make sense.
he’s not the type of guy to beat around the bush, he’s blunt and will immediately point it out
“oi, why the fuck are you so mopey?”
not the best execution, but it gets the question on the table and also adds insult to injury.
it starts a fight, at first. his s/o is getting tired and hurt at the harsh remarks - a person can only take so much, and they knew they signed up for this when they decided to date sanemi. that doesn’t change that his words can hurt, and they do hurt
this leads to his s/o blowing up and spewing their emotions at sanemi, ranting, yelling, cussing, and more. for once, sanemi with be silent and soak in the information.
he’ll understand and take in account your feelings, making sure you open up more and also making sure that he thinks before he spews out an insult that he spews to everyone to you
Himejima Gyomei
gyomei may be blind, but he’s not oblivious
he’ll take note of their dismissive behavior, how they deflect compliments and refuse to ever talk about themselves or their troubles
and it troubles him, and it makes him tear up knowing this his s/o is hurting
so he does what he can do confront them early about it
she’s his wife and he refuses to let them suffer in silence, especially if he has something to say about it
so one night, on a day off where he’s had time to think about his words and how he would like to approach this, he would ask them to sit down with him
pour some tea, set the mood to be serious but also friendly and welcoming - after all, it is his wife and they are at home
he would approach the topic slowly and steadily, easing it in and making sure not to pressure too hard
once the mood is set and his s/o starts to pour out their emotions and their problems, he would gladly listen, holding their hand in his larger one and gently caressing it to soothe them
he will make sure you know that he will always be there for you as a shoulder to lean on and that he cares for you
he’s a soft baby boy
Uzui Tengen
this boy will notice in a heartbeat and he will act in an instant
he has three wives, he’s a rather amiable person so he knows an abundant amount of people, which means he’s seen a multitude of personality types and the like
he’ll wait a few days before saying anything, wanting to see if you’ll come open up to him first if you’re comfortable enough
if not, he’ll ease in compliments into the conversation and meaningful, sincere flattering remarks
he wants to make sure you know that you have a voice, your concerns and problems are valid and you shouldn’t be afraid to voice them out to him or his other wives
he’ll make sure that you remember that you are his number one priority, above him and above the lives of other citizens, and that you should feel that way too
he will absolutely refuse to let you act as a doormat
if anyone tries to use you to their advantage, he will instantly step in and teach that person a lesson for even trying. he’ll teach you to learn to say no and to be more assertive
he will never let you forget your worth and how much he absolutely adores you
Igurou Obanai
he is more silent and observant compared to the rest, but as for reading emotions, it’ll take him a little longer as he isn’t exactly the most adapted to that
but since you’re his s/o and he will literally kill for his s/o, it wouldn’t take too long for him to notice
he’s going to assume someone made you feel this way first, asking you who did and swearing to murder them in a heartbeat
but if you reveal that it’s just how you always acted then he would tone down on the violence and up the caring meter to 2k
he will rather easily take you to a secluded and rather calm place to let you talk about it, giving awkward hugs and reassuring affections
he isn’t the best in consoling, so don’t expect kind words or from him
instead, just expect silent physical affections - after all, actions speak louder than words
he’ll do whatever you want to do with him, mainly to get your mind off of it
he’ll be subtle in his affections but he’ll hope he can make you realize that you’re worth more than you think
he won’t force you to talk about his past, considering he himself refuse to talk a bout his own past
but he wants you to let out your emotions, so he reminds you occasionally that he’s there to listen to you when you feel the time is right
Tokitou Muichirou
muichirou isnt the type of person to pry into his s/o or anyones personal life
he’s more of the “if they want me to know, they’ll let me know” kinda person
but he’s also very observant and will immediately take notice if this habit and behavior becomes kind of ongoing and continuous
his first tactic is to try to ask about it in private
“you know you have the right to say no, right?”
“i saw that uzui made you uncomfortable with three more missions and you could’ve said something”
he’ll try to talk some sense into you, first trying to be nicer and not nearly as blunt before just going
“i know how you’re thinking. like you don’t have worth, that if you help others then that’ll give you some kind of purpose, that if you just tolerate everything then it’ll be ok. take a look at yourself in the mirror and look me in the eye and tell me you’re ok.”
if it takes being brash and rude to break down your walls and to get you to spill, then he’ll do it because he knows in the future, you’ll thank him for it
he just wants the best for you, and as a smol bean boi, he will do whatever he can to help you
Kanroji Mitsuri
mitsuri is hesitant to ask or pry
she knows you’re strong and you can take care of yourself
but she sees your health going down rapidly
and she can’t help but worry increasingly
she’d ask rengoku for advice first on how to approach the situation
and he’d immediately advise her to take charge sooner than later, cuz it’ll only get worse the longer she waits to take action
he’ll give words of advice and some pointers that he would say before sending her off immediately to take action right that instant
and mitsuri is a little bit nervous but she puts on a brave face and marches to you
“s/o! remember i love you but what you’re doing to yourself is not good and very bad for your health so please talk to me! i’m really worried and the others are too, so...” she’ll start to waver in the middle of her confidence burst before steeling herself, her eyes getting this built resolve as she continues, “rely on me. rely on us! we’re here for you, so don’t feel like you need to keep doing everything we ask just to make us happy!”
she’ll honestly get a little emotional and cry while in her spiel because she’s spilling out her emotions as to watching you deteriorate your own health
and when she’s finished, she’ll stand and huff for a minute before opening her arms and just offering a hug
she’s good with physical affection so she wants to show you as much as possible to show that she loves you and you are worth so much more than you could ever imagine
that you are her inspiration and reason to keep fighting when she feels as if she has no energy left
so she just wants you to realize this because she thinks its the most obvious thing ever
Kocho Shinobu
see
she does the exact same thing
but this is about you
and since she knows how she does it and how she hides it so easily
she’ll spot it in the blink of an eye and work to stop it as soon as possible
she knows firsthand just how much it can deteriorate one’s health and she refuses to let you suffer through that just as she does
so she will immediately pull you aside, sit you down, and make sure you listen to each and every word that will spill out of her mouth
she’ll half lecture you and half vent to you with her own emotions (in the moment you won’t realize this but later you’ll see that she was dealing with the same thing)
she’ll shed a few tears and let her anger show through just to get her point across
she won’t stop until she’s made sure you’ve understood your worth and your importance and your own health
she will stay up all night by your side just to make sure you realize this because she admires and loves you so much that it hurts her to see you suffering
please expect a lot of cuddles and pampering
she will refuse to let you lift a finger and she’ll stand up for you if a pillar asks you for something
“yo s/o can you take my mi--”
“back the fucK off tomioka”
this ended up being 2319 words and it took me like two months eye--

bereft // tomioka giyuu
Author’s Note: I absolutely adore Tomioka Giyuu. Especially with the way he’s written, the insecurities play out so well, it’s just beautiful. And I like writing angst because he’s just so easy to hurt (oh my god). There are spoilers for the manga in this one, so watch out!
Word count: 4680
Pairing: Tomioka Giyuu x Reader
Warnings: angst, pining, one-sided love, hurt/comfort, spoilers for the manga
❝
It wasn’t as if Tomioka Giyuu didn’t believe in love.
There were many reasons as to why his childhood was so important to him. He had left behind parts of him that he didn’t have the strength to carry ahead in life: the warmth that reminded him of his sister, the playfulness he felt with Sabito, the sibling care he felt with Makomo, or the love he felt for (y/n).
As a child, people often brushed off the thoughts of love or attachment, saying that it wasn’t exactly too serious or it wasn’t actually ‘love’. But, with Giyuu, things were different.
Even as a child, Tomioka Giyuu felt things too intensely. It was perhaps a trait he had inherited because it was the same with his sister as well. His sister taught him not to hide from love, that love was the only thing binding them all together. Love worked in mysterious and fascinating ways, teaching you to constantly better your best and improve in ways one never thought possible. Giyuu was always fascinated with the way his sister spoke about love, on its various forms, on how the idea was contorted with time and age.
It was with (y/n), a fellow orphan who was living with Urokodaki, did Giyuu feel it for the first time. Ever since losing his sister, he held on to the idea of love that she left behind—it was all he had.
But, it felt like destiny with Giyuu; to love people he could never have.
(y/n) (s/n) was evidently infatuated with Sabito, and it was something not only Giyuu or Makomo noticed, but Sabito had as well. As tough as he was with people he would train with, with (y/n), he would show his softer sides, offering her more of his calm smiles, and sweet touches. Giyuu often found them talking to each other in a private space, with Sabito’s eyes firmly fixed on her shy form. All Giyuu could do was watch from a distance, swallowing stones, easing his tumultuous soul. He wondered what his sister would tell him then, about what he was feeling and why loving (y/n) made him feel so alone.
Perhaps, because he felt so lonely, Giyuu had his own theories as to why this love felt so painful. Maybe he was destined to forever fall in love with people he couldn’t have. Maybe there’s a whole assortment of impossible people waiting for him to find them. Waiting to make him feel the same impossibility over and over again.
“Tomioka-kun!” (y/n) looked excited that morning.
Giyuu blinked before turning to her, butterflies in his stomach as he noticed her shiny eyes and warm smile. He instantly looked around for Sabito, wondering where he was. Makomo was inside, helping Urokodaki with breakfast.
“(s/n),” Giyuu responded, his voice breaking out of embarrassment. He wasn’t used to speaking to her, despite knowing her for almost a year. “Good morning.”
(y/n) plopped herself beside Giyuu, who was taking a break from practicing his swordsmanship. His face reddened as she sat down, before trying to look away. But, he couldn’t. She was far too gorgeous to turn away from.
“Good morning. Were you practicing?”
Giyuu nodded, his blush intensifying. “Where’s Sabito?”
“He said he’s foraging for some vegetables. I wanted to join him, but he brushed me off.” (y/n) pouted as she said this.
Giyuu felt his heart ache at the sight of her blushing, pouting face. All these expressions would never be directed toward him, and it wasn’t as if he was jealous of Sabito—that wasn’t the case at all, Giyuu adored and respected Sabito more than anyone else. However, these emotions he had for (y/n) were conflicting. Just as his name was mentioned, the peach haired boy walked toward them, Giyuu’s eyes widened at Sabito’s calm smile.
“Giyuu,” He turned to (y/n), “(y/n), let’s go eat.”
(y/n) stood up instantly before frowning at Sabito, who merely chuckled and patted her head. Giyuu couldn’t admit it, but the two of them together made so much sense. Sabito’s kindness and (y/n)’s gentle nature fit together perfectly, it was as if they were sent to Urokodaki just so that they could meet. Even though they were both set on becoming demon slayers, their togetherness was a fact set on stone.
“You look pale, did you sleep well?” Sabito’s voice was soft, and Giyuu turned away.
(y/n) giggled, “Of course! You worry so much, Sabito-kun.”
Sabito smiled. His smiles always felt like home.
That evening, Sabito and Giyuu were training together. Makomo and (y/n) were off practicing their breathing techniques, and while the two boys were training, Sabito found it a tad bit easier to beat Giyuu to the ground when compared to other days. Cocking an eyebrow, the peach-haired boy knew something was occupying his friend’s mind.
“Is something wrong?” He didn’t bother hiding the concern in his voice.
Giyuu couldn’t meet his eye. What would he say? That he was in love with the same girl Sabito was in love with? After how kind Sabito was, there was no way Giyuu could even hope for such selfishness. Sabito stepped closer to Giyuu, before offering him a hand. Giyuu looked up at Sabito, who was smiling softly at his friend. Giyuu’s hesitance confirmed his suspicions.
Sabito pulled his friend to a standing position before leading him to the waterfall nearby. Turning to his friend, he sent him a mocking smile before rushing away from Giyuu, who blinked in retaliation.
“Are you going to take all day to reach the top?” Sabito mocked.
Giyuu grinned before following after his friend, and the two of them engaged in a playful race—which, Sabito had won easily.
“Is it about (y/n)?” Sabito asked, his voice low.
Giyuu didn’t answer. He couldn’t even meet his friend’s eye.
“Do you love her, Giyuu?” Sabito asked, no anger or hurt in his voice.
Giyuu shut his eyes, unhappy with the circumstance he was in.
“I’m sorry—”
“Every time you reveal your feelings, you apologize,” Sabito sounded a bit irritated at this now. “Have you never had an emotion in your life that you weren’t ashamed of?”
Giyuu’s eyes widened and he looked up at his friend’s scowl. Sabito’s anger wasn’t raging hot; it was a warm winter fire, comforting and honest. Giyuu felt his eyes tear up at the presence of his friend’s radiance. Sabito’s scowl vanished a second later, and a soft smile replaced his features. A sad smile, which revealed nothing in words yet the truth had been spoken.
“We don’t choose who we love, Giyuu,” Sabito said, looking at his friend in the eye. “I’m truly very sorry—”
“You have nothing to apologize for!” Giyuu fought back, brushing off Sabito’s hands.
Sabito chuckled before leading him away from the falls, the conversation was enough to let Giyuu know to accept his feelings rather than run from them. For as long as Sabito was around, there was nothing Giyuu had to feel ashamed of. Even if he was in love with the same girl his best friend was in love with.
*
There was nothing but distraught in Giyuu’s eyes as he watched Makomo being eaten. Sabito stared in horror at the sight, (y/n) and Giyuu closely behind him. The other children were a bit away, not having had the misfortune of facing the hand demon, at whose hands (y/n) was sure they would face their death.
“Sabito, we can’t... We can’t save her—”
“Giyuu,” Sabito said, his voice low. The rage of a calm man was often terrifying and right then, Sabito’s rage was no winter fire.
Sabito’s rage right then was of an angry lion, hungry and devoid of shelter, in pursuit of blood.
“Giyuu,” He repeated again, ignoring (y/n)’s shaking form, “Take (y/n) and run.”
“N-No!” (y/n) responded first, grabbing onto Sabito’s hand, while he simply pushed her away.
Giyuu couldn’t believe what his friend was even suggesting. His eyes traveled to (y/n)’s form, shaking and afraid, her eyes displaying the terror that had unfolded on them at the moment.
“This is the only way, Giyuu. Please,” Sabito turned to his friend before offering him the same smile, “Protect her for me.”
(y/n) and Giyuu’s eyes widened at his words. She turned to look at Giyuu who didn’t meet her gaze before tears filled her eyes. She jumped at Sabito, who stood there like a log and held on to him for dear life.
“S-Sabito-kun, I can’t... Please, I don’t know what I’d do without you—”
Turning to her, he placed a calm hand on her cheek before saying, “You will live. You will pass this test and become a demon slayer. You will avenge your family. You will make another. (y/n), if loving you has taught me anything, then it is that you are stronger than you give yourself credit for.”
She shook her head. There was no way she would leave him. If it meant getting eaten, then she would be eaten alongside him. She couldn’t—
Sabito turned to Giyuu one last time and nodded. Giyuu knew what he had to do. He jabbed at the nape of her neck and she instantly fell to the ground, Giyuu catching her on time. Sabito smiled one last time at his best friend; a sad smile, a relieved smile—a smile that said ‘thank you’.
*
When Giyuu took (y/n) out of the forest, he had let go of his sister’s ideology of love back there as well. He turned to the unconscious girl in his arms, who’s consciousness would only give her more grief. Sabito was gone, there was no going back from there. Placing the girl on the ground, Giyuu tapped her cheek a couple of times, his eyes devoid of emotion, the light in his face gone, the warmth in his heart, lost.
When she came to, the first thing she whispered was Sabito’s name. Giyuu felt a monstrous sort of grief wrap around him, a grief he couldn’t show. He blamed himself, he blamed how weak he was, he grieved over how Sabito chose the lives of everyone else before his own, he grieved over how bereft he felt now that his best friend was gone, and he grieved over giving (y/n) the same grief. In a way, Giyuu felt, he had stolen Sabito’s life from her, leaving her devoid of a life Sabito would have been more than happy to give her. He would take it if she was angry at him, even if she would push him away, even if she would never talk to him again.
Loving her meant letting her go, and he had understood that way before Sabito had sacrificed himself.
“Tomioka-kun?”
It had once pained his heart that he was always ‘Tomioka’ while Sabito was just ‘Sabito’. But now, he felt a wicked sort of relief. He stared at her with no emotion in his face, and the mere expression he bore repeated the truth to her once again. Tears filled her eyes and she cried, loudly and as if her heart was breaking one more time.
He watched her cry, not having the heart to do the same. Perhaps, it was shock that didn’t let Giyuu cry that night. Urokodaki even wondered if the boy would ever let himself feel again.
Two days later, (y/n) approached him as he trained. Their swords were yet to arrive, and in those two days, Giyuu hadn’t spoken a word to either (y/n) or Urokodaki. The old man told (y/n) to leave him to his own; people grieved differently. Urokodaki knew of (y/n)’s relationship with Sabito and knew that both children were facing a different sort of pain that he knew nothing about.
“Tomioka... No,” Giyuu paused his training but didn’t look at her, “Giyuu,”
He looked at her now, still feeling a hum of the same heartache she would always make him feel. She looked worried, a worried expression he was not used to seeing on her, which gave him more grief than satisfaction.
“C-Can we talk?”
Giyuu didn’t want to. If it was about Sabito, he had said everything he had to say. But, he couldn’t push her away. If there was anyone in the world who understood his grief, then it was (y/n). Sabito had slapped him long ago, a slap Giyuu had now forgotten with Sabito’s death.
Suddenly, his eyes widened. (y/n)’s hand was placed firmly against his cheek, the same cheek Sabito had slapped, and he saw tears in her eyes.
“You’re grieving,” She said, her voice breaking. “And I’m so sorry—”
He pulled away, his eyes narrowing at her approach, “What are you even sorry for? I should be the one—”
He stopped himself before he said too much. He winced at his own words that had slipped without his command and went back to training as if nothing had happened. (y/n) stood there, in shock, meeting his grief face to face but not having the power to drive it away. She was not Sabito, only he knew how to approach Giyuu.
“I’m sorry I never saw it.” She whispered as she walked away, not saying another word to him.
As Giyuu clenched his jaw, he wondered if he would ever see her again. He wondered each day after that, if (y/n) would remember who he was, if (y/n) would ever get over the death of his best friend. He wondered day in and day out over random things—about what she was doing, if she was still a demon slayer, if she was married.
Six years passed. And then another two. And not a day went by when Giyuu didn’t think of (y/n).
He thought of the way she held his cheek that day, and he thought of the thousand different ways he had hoped he responded. But, he had pushed her away, albeit harshly, over a grief both of them shared.
*
The next time (y/n) saw Giyuu Tomioka was in between a mission. (y/n) had just completed it, and was returning to the butterfly estate. She noticed the haori and her heart’s pace quickened. The person was walking away from her, and she rushed toward them, grabbing the male by the shoulder and turning them around.
Her wide (e/c) eyes met his ocean blue ones. Upon seeing her, Giyuu’s eyes widened as well, before her name flew out of his lips like a charm.
“G-Giyuu... Is... Is that really you?” (y/n)’s voice was different from before, it was more refined, womanlike.
Giyuu’s heart rate was escalating at a very rapid pace, but he was a master of breathing now; he calmed himself down as if nothing had occurred and greeted her casually.
“Yes. It’s been very long, (y/n).” He could now speak her name without being torn in half.
She smiled at him before taking a good long look at his features. Giyuu had always been a cute boy, but now he was grown up—handsome and elegant, he reminded her nothing of the boy he used to be.
“You look well.” She said, gleefully.
He nodded, “So do you.”
And then it got awkward. She could sense it, he was still grieving—having had no outlet to let out his emotions. Sabito’s death, at one point, destroyed her life but it was because of the love she had for him did she keep going on. She fought hard and became a demon slayer, reaching the rank of Kinoto. Meeting Giyuu again, relieved her—knowing he was safe, and it gave her a sense of home.
Without thinking, she stepped forward and embraced him, tears streaming from her face at the thought of everything they had been through, as Giyuu stood there, unmoving. He didn’t even need her coming to him for him to realize he still had feelings for her. He knew it all along. He had never stopped loving her. However, there was no way he could ever allow himself to tell her what he was feeling. No one could know because it didn’t matter.
“Will you eat lunch with me?” She asked, tilting her head and smiling the same smile Giyuu had fallen so strongly in love with all those years ago.
He couldn’t help but return half of her smile. She was warm, like the sun, and somehow—Giyuu knew he had missed everything about her. The two of them headed to a small stall that sold noodles, and the two demon slayers sat down before (y/n) turned to the owner of the stall.
“Sir, by any chance, do you have daikon?”
Giyuu’s eyes widened as he turned to face her.
“We have them fresh, ma’am! Would you like some?” The owner of the stall replied, courteously.
(y/n) smiled back before saying, “Could you please serve fresh daikon with some simmered salmon?”
Giyuu’s face reddened, and he found fighting the smile that was threatening to embrace his features was harder than fighting demons. (y/n) turned to him and grinned, before sitting back down beside him.
“You still like it, don’t you?”
Giyuu didn’t say anything.
“You used to love a fresh plate. You would always—”
“You remembered.” Giyuu said, now looking directly at her.
She nodded, “Of course I did. Why wouldn’t I?”
She had no reason to. She was in love with Sabito. He was nothing but a friend. He was—
“You were family.” She whispered.
“I’m sorry,” (y/n) turned to look at him, “For Sabito. For everything—”
“You did the right thing, Giyuu,” she said, her eyes warm. “You have nothing to be sorry for.”
The two of them ate, exchanging pleasantries, (y/n) laughing and being shy over things she now revealed she liked. She told him of some of her adventures and was shocked in hearing he was now a Hashira.
“You’re a Hashira? Should I bow to you?”
Giyuu merely stared at her face, unimpressed.
“Such a cold stare...” She said, backing away.
He wouldn’t admit it, but everything about her now made him feel lightheaded. He found himself opening up little by little, and perhaps the fact that he knew her well long before helped him in shedding off the formalities with her now. (y/n), as she claimed, was like family. They trained together, used the same techniques, knew each other’s weaknesses and strengths and even favorite foods.
They were walking back to the butterfly estate together after that, and their conversations still didn’t end. He found himself telling her about Kamada Tanjiro and his sister, knowing she would keep it a secret. She was impressed that Giyuu had placed his life on the line for someone else, a hidden kindness only she knew he had possessed.
“You truly impress me,” She said, looking at him. Giyuu blinked in confusion, “You really do.”
“How?”
“You are so kind, Giyuu, you don’t even see it.”
Giyuu didn’t agree. He turned away and looked at the ground, not willing to accept what she had said. If anyone was kind it was her—talking to him despite everything that had happened. If anyone was kind, it was Sabito—who had sacrificed his own life to save everyone else.
“I’m not kind.” He responded, coldly.
A warm hand wrapped itself around his wrist, and Giyuu paused. He turned to look at her hand and then looked at her, unaware of what to say. She shook her head before her hand reached downwards, encircling around his hand now, grabbing his fingers. Giyuu resisted the urge to hold her hand, but she somehow sensed his hesitance. She forced herself inside and held his hand tighter until she felt him hold her back.
“(y/n)—”
“You always would give yourself such less credit,” She said, her voice a mere whisper. “Even Sabito-kun found it strangely depressing.”
He felt his heart clench at her words. Guilt washed over him. There was nothing he could say to that. However, his hand was now firmly holding hers, and he liked the contact. He didn’t know what he was missing until she had shown him.
When the two of them reached the butterfly estate, Giyuu was glad Shinobu Kochou was not around. Not that he disliked her, it was, in fact, the opposite, but he was afraid if his resurfacing feelings for (y/n) were evident. He didn’t want her smug face rubbing it in any further than it had already sunk in.
They were to stay there until further notice—demons were plaguing the land, and a mission was not far. Giyuu enjoyed this time with (y/n), speaking to her every day, even going as far as training with her.
“Your form is still incorrect.” He scolded her, a soft smirk on his features.
“This will do.” She said, ambitiously, before Giyuu toppled her to the ground.
He moved away from her and let out a chuckle, before earning a smack on the head. He turned to see her pout at him and his eyes widened; he turned away instantly before being reminded of an image he had almost forgotten. She would pout at Sabito a lot, and now, here was one directed at him.
“Giyuu?”
He cleared his throat before looking at her, a pained expression landed on his face. She noticed everything that was on his face and let out a sigh.
“I knew,” She said.
Giyuu didn’t say anything.
“I always knew. With the way you looked at me and spoke to me sometimes, I knew what you were feeling. I wanted you to come and tell me so that I could turn you down, but what hurt me was that you never accepted those feelings for yourself.”
“(y/n), you were with Sabito—”
“Yes, but there’s something called being honest with yourself. Giyuu, if you end up thinking you don’t deserve any sort of kindness in your life, any sort of happiness, just because you lost everything, you’re only punishing yourself!”
He stared at her face. He had never seen her so emotionally charged.
“I was never... Sabito was the one who saved everyone. Sabito was the one you had your eyes on. Sabito—”
“Sabito-kun is dead, Giyuu, and you have to accept that.” She was crying now.
“I’m sorry, (y/n).”
She shook her head, “I’m sorry, too. You deserve so much more. You don’t even know it.”
*
(y/n) wrote Giyuu a lot of letters in the next few weeks. Giyuu rarely responded to letters, but it was (y/n), and he had almost admitted that he was in love with her. She would write to him about her days, about things she saw, people she met and Giyuu would respond curtly. He enjoyed the attention, and she was a part of his past that he held on to fondly.
He met her once again, by chance, when she was eating dinner. She was by a stall again and a soft smile sat on Giyuu’s face as he approached her. (y/n)’s eyes fell on his approaching form and widened before she got up and rushed to greet him.
“You didn’t have to run to me, I was coming there.” Giyuu said, amused.
“I was happy to see you.”
In the time she spent writing letters to him, she realized she was helping him heal. And the thing about healing was that when you helped another heal, you heal yourself as well. The first few letters she wrote to Giyuu, she wrote for him. The several letters that came after, she could not stop writing. And now, seeing him in flesh again, confirmed her suspicions.
She was falling in love again. With Tomioka Giyuu.
“Do you want me to buy you dinner?” She asked, cheekily.
Giyuu frowned a bit, “I can buy dinner myself, (y/n).”
“You two are a cute couple. What will you be having?” The stall owner said, shocking both of them.
(y/n)’s face turned red instantly and Giyuu’s eyes remained stoic. He turned to her before turning away, ordering what he wanted and waiting patiently.
“Giyuu—”
“It’s nothing.”
She frowned a tad bit before feeling dejected. After eating, the two of them walked over to the house with the wisteria symbol and were given rooms to rest in. Since they were man and woman, the kind old lady ensured each had their own rooms.
After changing into more comfortable clothing, (y/n) and Giyuu sat beside one another, at the side of the house. No words were spoken, just two people enjoying each other’s company in silence. She turned to look at him, noticing features from his face she had never noticed before. His hair was longer, his eyes were colder, and his features—oh, they were handsome indeed. Just the mere thought sent blood rushing to her face, and she turned away, quickly shutting her eyes.
Giyuu turned to look at her this time, after having felt her eyes on him for several seconds. She was just as he remembered, beautiful and gentle, yet so strong.
“Why...” She whispered, “Why won’t you try to tell me how you feel?”
Giyuu almost gasped, his eyes widening slowly.
“What...”
She turned to look at him now, distressed eyes. Her hand flew to his cheek, bringing him closer to her. Their faces were inches away, and Giyuu could feel her breath on his face. Her grip on him was strong but so soft at the same time.
“Why won’t you ever try?” She asked, staring into his eyes.
Giyuu’s eyes were stuck to hers, but for some reason, the air around them changed. His eyes quickly darted to her lips and then back at her eyes. It was as if he was scolding himself for even looking at her lips. The close contact didn’t help. He felt warm all of a sudden, and he was sure he was sweating.
She leaned in closer before pressing her lips to his, stunning him in the process. Giyuu didn’t move, he remained frozen as if this was something he shouldn’t even be doing.
A second later, she pulled away, quickly getting up from there and excusing herself. Giyuu was shocked, his eyes wide, his mouth ajar, his fingers traveled to his lips and felt them—warm and a bit of (y/n) left behind.
(y/n) gulped before heading into her room for the night, but there was something there. Something had changed between them, something permanent. She shut herself in her room and stayed there, knowing that either Giyuu would leave her a letter or not in the morning, but would go away before she could see him.
Her words stung him. Why won’t you try? Was she talking about all those times when he could have said something to her and didn’t? All those times he was pulling himself away from her because Sabito was there? Did she deserve to know about his feelings simply because he had them?
Of course, he had them for her, after all.
Giyuu stood up. He walked over to her room and stood there, unmoving. He didn’t know what made him move, but whatever it was, he didn’t want it to stop.
“(y/n),” His eyes were wide. “Can I come insid—”
The door opened before he could even finish. There she stood, wide-eyed and red-faced, looking at him earnestly. Giyuu walked in, his hands reaching her face, cupping her cheeks before pressing his lips on to hers firmly. Tears fell down from her eyes as her hands flew to his, clutching into him for dear life. Giyuu kissed her as passionately as for all those times he could have said something and didn’t.
And when he pulled away, he took a breath before kissing her once more. His hands flung themselves around her and pulled her close, gripping on to her like she was the only living memory that mattered.
After he pulled away, “I love you, (y/n). I have always loved you.”
(y/n) was crying, but there was a smile on her face. She nodded before cupping his face, kissing his nose, placing her forehead on his.
“I love you, Tomioka Giyuu.”
It wasn’t as if Giyuu didn’t believe in love. How could he not when he basically lived for it?

𝐂𝐮𝐭 𝐦𝐲 𝐇𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐨𝐤𝐚 𝐆𝐢𝐲𝐮𝐮
⇢A/N: this was rushed but i needed to do this, don’t let the disclaimer scare you because this is fluff.
⇢Disclairmer: spoilers about Giyuu ahead, so read by your own risk, mention of death.
Pairing: Giyuu x Reader.
Genre: fluff.
Type: scenario.
You had always been in Giyuu’s life, you meet him since you were kids at Urokodaki-San house, the first time he saw you, you were sweeping the entrance, it was funny seeing something that small with a broom twice your size, what took your attention to the little boy was his deep blue eyes, telling him your name with your cheeks flushed and gifting Giyuu a gummy smile, home.
Your brother used to be a disciple of the older man and also a slayer, sadly he passed away years ago, leaving you in the care of Urokodaki, with Sabito and Giyuu coming to your life you were feeling lest alone, but things happens and people go, Sabito died at the slayer exams and Giyuu left.
But they only left physically, you still could feel Sabito presence when you go to the mountains, and Giyuu got used to send letters, tons of letters, the majority of them with a simple “I’m fine, please eat well and take care”, but he also got his times when he write paragraphs telling you about what he did, the people he met, and new things he learned, but the most worrying letter was about the kid and his demon sister, but “don’t worry” was written in the letter, and he was right, the Kamado siblings were nice, Nezuko was always sleeping and Tanjirou was a sweet boy, you wrote Giyuu and told him everything about his progress and about yours too, in one of the letters you wrote him “I’m learning how to cook” and he respond with an “I can’t wait to try”
He always make your heart melt with his innocent words and one day finally you notice that you fell in love with him, at first you were scared, Giyuu told you about a lot of amazing people he just meet being a pillar, and there you were, just helping Urokodaki-san with home chores and growing vegetables and fruits, nothing to impress and nothing to compare with all the talent people, you just were normal.
But as always you were waiting for Giyuu, you were always waiting for maybe a visit and his usual letters, so when you didn’t receive the week letter you got really scare, you were afraid about the same story, your brother went to a mission and stop sending letters and then you got the notification that he died, so having that insecurity in your heart you cried all night and pray for Giyuu’s safety.
Days later and feeling blessed you saw his silhouette in the distance, you didn’t care about anything and run towards him to give him a big hug making you both fall on the ground you on top of him, he hummed feeling your weight on him.
“Giyuu!” You cried “you’re alive, thank God!”
“It’s hurts...” he mumbled.
“Oh!” You sat in his lap looking at him, he looked really tired and hurt, with that in mind you get of him sitting next to his laying body “I’m sorry, I got a little excited” you smiled at him “welcome home, Giyuu”
“I’m back...but something’s missing” he raised his arm showing that he has a missing limb.
“That doesn’t matter, you’re alive, now you’re safe” closing your eyes some tears fall out, his hand went to caress your cheek cleaning your tears.
“I need your help to cut my hair” he said while sitting up with your help.
“After eating, I’ll cook everything that you want”
He gave you his usual soft little smile, blushing you took courage and wrap your arms in his body, this time being gentle with his wounds, you rest your head on his chest hearing his heartbeats, he’s with you now, Giyuu pat your head and let his hand rest in your shoulder.
It was time to finally have a quite life.

* how dare someone make you cry? someone as precious as you should only smile...
* he came close and hugged you as you cried and let out the stress you have been bottling up.
* “Just tell me their name and I’ll make this all better.”
* you didn’t want to tell him, not after your monologue
* but it just slipped—
* “Sanemi-san was so rude to me today, even though I was doing my job right. He didn’t even thank me or anything like other pillars. Even Giyuu-san thanks me...And he didn’t have to thank me, just— not yelling at me would be enough, you know?”
* Ah, so that lucky bastard got to spend time with someone as precious as you and hurt you?
* oh how he would like to have a talk with the older pillar
* but for now, you’re more important.
* “It’s okay, (name). Lets sleep together tonight.”
* you nodded as he wiped your tears and left a very light kiss on your forehead
* your heartbeat was going crazy, he could hear it
* you’re so cute

sabito x neutral!reader | miss you more than anything [angst]
sabito x reader
gender neutral
Even after so many years, you still miss Sabito too much for your own good.
warning : angst, mention of death obviously, slight manga spoilers
the lyrics are from francis forever by mitski
I don't know what to do without you.
I don't know where to put my hands.
I've been trying to lay my head down.
But I'm writing this at 3am.
You were still mourning, and feeling guilty. Even after all those years, you couldn’t turn the page. Giyuu hadn’t moved on neither, but he was still able to live his life as normally as he could, and responding to his responsibilities. But you’ve always been the weak one between the three of you.
That’s why you kept telling yourself that it wasn’t Sabito’s destiny to die at the hunter exam. It was yours. He was the strongest one, he was sure going to be a pillar. And still, he’s the one who didn’t manage to pass. He’s the one who didn’t manage to survive. And even if you were all 13 at that time, now that you were 21, you still couldn’t move on. Why couldn’t you ?
Some people lost their whole family, some people are all alone now because of demons killing every member of their household. And you, you had Giyuu, you had friends, you even had some members of you family alive. And only for one person you couldn’t move on ? Indeed, you really were the weakest one between Sabito, Giyuu and you. You managed to become even weaker once your boyfriend passed.
I don't need the world to see
that I've been the best I can be, but
I don't think I could stand to be
where you don't see me.
Yeah, ‘boyfriend’. Even if you were 13, Sabito and you had a relationship. It was a child thing, but you truly believed that your love was strong, and that you would still be with him if he wasn’t dead. Actually, even if you two were in a relationship, you didn’t make it weird for Giyuu at all. Your bond was strong, and even after death, it couldn’t be broken.
When Sabito died, both Giyuu and you took half of his haori, both of you sharing the pattern. The brunette had managed to become a pillar, even though he felt as if he stole his friend’s place. But you, you didn’t even try to become one. Sure, you were a hunter, and a high graded one. But still, you couldn’t be a pillar. It would hurt you even more.
Actually, you understood that the only reason keeping you alive was that Giyuu was going to be all alone without you. You both felt guilty about Sabito’s death, thinking that he was the most deserving one. He was the strongest one, the one with the brightest future, and he was the dead one.
On sunny days I go out walking.
I end up on a tree-lined street.
I look up at the gaps of sunlight.
I miss you more than anything.
You didn’t try to find any boyfriend after that. Why ? So he’ll die as well ? And why would you even try to find someone else, when Sabito is waiting for you in Heaven ? He was the best boyfriend you would ever have, you couldn’t even tell why he loved you in the first place. You couldn’t replace perfection.
Oh yeah, replace ; that’s the word you would have to use if you would ever date someone else. They would only be there to replace him. And you didn’t want someone else to suffer because of you. Indeed, you strongly believed that Sabito died because of you. Of course he fought the demon by himself, of course he decided not to call you and let you run to the wisteria trees.
However, you were sure that if he hadn’t spent so much time with you, he would had been even stronger ; you had only been a burden to him. And right now, you were walking through the Sagiri Mountain. Sabito had been buried near by -at least he had a tombstone there- and you were visiting him at least once every 2 months. Not easy to move on that way, hm ?
I don't need the world to see
that I've been the best I can be, but
I don't think I could stand to be
where you don't see me.
It was always painful to see some parts of the mountain. The broken tree that was still there, where you loved to sit with Sabito and look at the sky, at night. You were always waiting for Giyuu to fall asleep, since you didn’t want him to feel left behind. There was also that other tree, where it was carved : ‘’Giyuu Sabito (Y/N)’’ and a kind of weird heart your boyfriend had tried carving in.
You weren’t going to get married, you weren’t going to have a family. You had abandoned those ideals some days after you finally understood that Sabito was gone forever, and weren’t in denial anymore. But you didn’t mind. He was waiting for you in the afterlife, you would have all the time you need for that once you would be joining him !
Once you arrived the tombstone -close to that carved tree and that one that was used as a bench- you immediately broke down. Sometimes, you could manage to smile and be okay. But nowadays, it had been more difficult ; you couldn’t figure out why, though.
And autumn comes when you're not
yet done with the summer passing by,
but I don't think I could stand to be
where you don't see me.
‘’I’m sorry you often see me crying, Sabito ! I’m trying to look the best I could.’’ You muttered, trying to wipe your tears away. ‘’You would be so handsome, nowadays.’’ You said, still having a very clear picture of him in your mind. ‘’I hope I’ll never be old enough to forget how you looked like.’’ You were weak. You were going to die young. You just hoped Giyuu was going to be able to bear the pain.
‘’I miss you so much. I still love you.’’ You whispered, as if you didn’t want to disturb all the children that had died before him, killed by that very same demon. Suddenly, you felt a hand on your shoulder, and when you turned your head, eyes widened, you noticed Giyuu, crouching next to you. ‘’Giyuu ? You managed to come ?’’ You asked, knowing how busy he was, being a pillar. He stood up again, staring at the trees. ‘’It’s autumn season.’’
You arched an eyebrow, wiping your tears away. ‘’So what ?’’ Giyuu kept staring. ‘’The leaves are the same color as his hair.’’ He said, almost whispering, just like you did before. You gasped, understanding why you felt more pained nowadays. Seeing the sad expression in your friend’s eyes, you stood up to hug him.
The brunette hugged you back ; you were the only person he could do that with, anyway. ‘’He’s waiting for us.’’ You said, trying to comfort him, even if normally, it would be the contrary. Sabito wished you knew he missed you more than anything, and he wished you could feel him hugging you both as well.
y'all know that I'm anime only and I connected the dots btwn sabito and giyuu once I noticed the same haori pattern and I was like 'OH NO' so I checked and I was right yeay we're sadding
+ I say I’m anime only but do I know almost everything ? yeah lol, only on the wiki you see which character died even without looking for it oof

Hiii, can I pls request a childhood au oneshot with giyuu.. thankss(I rlly love ur oneshots & hcs btw😊)
Hi, Anon! Thank you for the supports! I'll make sure to get better at writing them for sure!!
Giyuu x Reader (Childhood AU)
You knew Giyuu when Urokodaki brought you to him, separating you from abused parents
You don't know anything but sorrow, your ears are brimming of shouts and screams, your eyes are completely out of light, you didn't know how many times you cried a day
"Giyuu, Sabito, Makomo, she is your sister now."
You don't know why, but Giyuu happily pulled and shook your hand.
"Hi! (y/n)!"
You realized these children almost have the same age as yours
"H-hi..."
You didn't play too much, the thought of you'll hit by random things if you played has been haunted you for years
So you just look at Giyuu while hiding your face, while sitting down
"(y/n)!! Let's play together!!" He pulled you out.
You got anxiety attack and great tremor on your body.
"I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I'll be good!" Giyuu stopped and hugged you. He let out soothing words, saying that now you are okay and nobody will hit you if you play
His gentle words made you calmed down
After that, you always followed him whenever he go, even though he usually followed Sabito too. You always grabbed his hakama from behind
You gained your smile and self-esteem little by little
You saw Giyuu and Sabito fought with wooden swords on daily basis
"Do you want to be a Demon Slayer? Let's train together!" You shook your head. The idea of slashing and killing them didn't look great on your head
One day, you and Giyuu played around the mountain. It's almost evening but now both of you are lost. Giyuu slipped on a steep stone and now he injured his leg
You can't do much but trembling while bandaging his wounds with a piece of your torned kimono. Where can I get help?, you thought
"Sabito!! Makomo!! Urokodaki-san!!" You shouted. No one answered, of course
You looked again at your around, the mist thickened and Giyuu was whimpered
You carried Giyuu with his one hand on your shoulder
You had to get out from here before demon reached you out.
You were walking thorough the thickened mist. And eventually find the way home, by relied on your memories
Urokodaki scolded you two for being bad, while treating Giyuu's wound
"I'm sorry, Urokodaki-san. It's my fault, not hers."
Urokodaki looked at how tidy you wrapped your kimono around and praised you
The day when Giyuu woke up from his injury after Final Test, is the day when you are right beside him.
You looked worried, informed that Sabito and Makomo died, that Giyuu is one of the survivor
"I should just died on that test."
You slapped him
"Sabito did this once, right?" Your eyes are in rage, your hands are trembled
Giyuu never saw you like this, not after a long time
"YOU'RE ALIVE AND THAT'S IMPORTANT! DON'T LEAVE ME TOO!"
And Giyuu had flashbacks again, on how Sabito slapped him too
He looked at your glistened eyes. Sabito and Makomo are died, and you are the one who left
After that, you didn't said anything but cried on top of his body
He touched your hair gently and said, "I'm sorry. I'm not leaving you." and eventually cried too, joining you.
Bonus:
Giyuu opened one of Butterfly Estate's ward, while saying permission words. He held his left abdomen. The medic staffs he met all the way in estate have offered to treat his wound but he refused them
"Hey, Giyuu. I see you are injured again."
"Congratulation on your promotion."
"Nah, I'm still just a medic staff. I treated my patients under Shinobu-sama commands. That's all."
You gave disinfectant, and stitched the wound on his left abdomen. You gave him some bandage treatment too. "And done. You're good to go."
"You are surely great at treating wound." He smiled. "Which one do you like, drinking or eating udon near downtown?"
"Hm, udon will be good."
Giyuu nodded, and stood, ready to left
But you suddenly pulled his haori
"On a second thought, drinking will be great."

(Kny SS) Sanemi/Giyuu: High school AU
Here’s the first chapter of my secret santa fic for Lala Zee ! I’m SO sorry I’m so late, I was trying to post a preview as soon as possible so you’d get something but stuff kept coming up. Here is Chapter 1 from your prompt: “Sanemi/Giyuu where Sanemi is the new kid/bad boy of Senior Year in high school and Giyuu is the only one not scared of him.”
I hope to make it justice, and that you enjoy the intro to our boys, here it goes!
Chapter 1
The day had begun like any other school day. The typical high-school noise bottled around him, chattering and giggles and a few whispers (if they could be considered such when they were obviously meant to be heard), some of them pointed at him followed by laughter.
All in all, a typical day for Tomioka Giyuu.
His eyes raised as he looked outside the window. The sky was clear, sun shining quite bright despite the season. Still, he couldn’t help but thinking it would rain later.
His thoughts were interrupted when the background noise came to a stop. English teacher walking in as everyone hurried to their seats, the snickering slowly dying as the class began.
Giyuu tried to pay attention, listening to the explanations and following the mechanical repetitions. But it was in vain. He just couldn’t help but feel slightly bothered by something. A feeling which unfortunately lasted throughout the longer-than-usual school day.
When school was finally over, he walked out, trying to glance at the entrance in hopes of catching something (or someone) when-
“Giyuuuuuuu!” A loud voice, more familiar to him than his own, raced through the courtyard and made its way to him in the shape of a loud energetic pink-haired guy. “Why are you so late?! I’ll beat you up if you stayed asleep in the roof again!”
“I had detention,” is his calm explanation, still lost in his thoughts.
“I KNEW I-- Wait. Detention? Ooh,” coos Sabito, clearly interested and smirking as he puts his arm around a slightly miffed Giyuu. “Is little Tomo-chan finally growing up? Knew you’d learn something sooner than later. Did you rebel against the teachers? Fought that new mohawk guy who threw your lunch last week? Because if you haven’t yet then I--”
“I got into a fight.” A pause. “Sort of.”
“What do you mean ‘sort of’? You’re either in a fight or you aren’t. Don’t tell me you half-assed your first fight!”
“It wasn’t my fight.”
“Eh? You’re not making any sense. Anyways, did you win?”
At this, Giyuu couldn’t help but frown.
Because, quite honestly, he wasn’t sure himself either.
It had all begun as follows:
Giyuu had been on cleaning duty one day, staying over after classes to take care of the classroom. Usually, more than one person stayed on duty, but the other student, a classmate named Tanjiro, told him he had to go pick up all four of his siblings one by one after school and couldn’t stay. He seemed quite embarrassed and willing to make up for it later, so Giyuu simply nodded his assent, to which he earned a smile and clap on the back. A bit too familiar compared to what he’s used to, but it didn’t really offend him.
He also didn’t mind staying over by himself, even if he missed out on walking home with Sabito, the school turned into a temporary relaxing place when most students were out of the premises.
It was peaceful. Quiet.
Except-
Not really.
He started to hear a commotion coming from a neighboring classroom, brow frowning as he wondered who else would be left here. Giyuu heard some shouts and the sounds of desks falling over. Now, he usually kept to himself, but years of knowing Sabito had gotten him more involved in altercations than he’d care for. Mostly playing the peacemaker, as he tried to keep his more temperamental friend out of trouble.
So he hurried over, seeing if there was anything he could do or if the matter was serious enough to call a teacher over.
What he saw though, surprised him.
He wasn’t shocked by the fight, but he was surprised to see someone he recognised. Not because he knew them, but because they’d been recently introduced during their recent PE class. Shinazugawa Sa… Something. Giyuu wasn’t a natural talker, and this guy didn’t seem to be a naturally friendly either, keeping to himself and lashing out a few times when other guys tried to mess with him. They hadn’t ever really interacted, but Giyuu had taken notice of him several times. Especially regarding those scars he had, running across his cheek and nose and on his forehead. It was an odd sight for a seventeen-year-old, but Giyuu knew better than to stare.
The image that crossed his sight now was one of Shinazugawa, a feral look on his face for lack of a more apt description, rising a whole table desk over his head as he loomed over three guys who scrambled up from the floor, purple marks rising on their faces. As soon as Giyuu opened the door the guys shouted out,
“This guy is a monster! Come, let’s get the fuck out of here!” A guy who was still standing up ran first, the other three following behind- but not before Shinazugawa finished throwing the desk right at where they just previously were. Their loud shrieks and cursing were heard as they left running through the hallway, promises of getting back at ‘scarface’ being tossed from afar.
Shinazugawa shouted, made as if to follow them- when his eyes crossed Giyuu’s. Who’d just been standing here, impassive eyes watching the whole ordeal.
“Get back here you motherfu---! What the HELL!” Shinazugawa exclaimed as he took Giyuu in, who’d very well look like a sort of apparition with how still he was. “Who the fuck are you?”
“Tomioka Gi--” “Yeah, I don’t care for your damn name. Your friends left you behind or somethin’?” The guy sneered as he stepped menacingly closer, “Or you just didn’t have enough yet?”
Giyuu’s eyes took in the appearance of the guy. Despite his behavior, his breathing was erratic, sign he was quite agitated or exhausted from the fight. His face was blossoming some bruises of their own, but the most worrisome thing was his white uniform sleeve. It had blood spots. And he hadn’t seen any of the other guys bleeding. Unless he’d missed that, then this blood had to be his own.
“Too scared to answer, you little sh--?”
“You’re hurt” Giyuu blurted out, frowning in concern as he looked at the sleeve.
“What-” The taller one blinked, quickly arriving to a conclusion as he grabbed Giyuu’s shirt by his collar. “You think just because your friends used dirty tricks you can take me on?!”
“No.” Was Giyuu’s calm response. “Let me help you.”
“Let you--? Hah! Seriously. You must be joking.” Shinazugawa drops him, stepping away to put his hands on his pants’ pockets. “I’m done here.”
But before he can walk away, Giyuu makes a quick notion to grab him by the arm- the hurt arm. The wince and the muffled complaint were enough to prove his theory. It looked like his sleeve had been nicked by a small knife, which was definitely a dirty trick, and knowing how physically fit Shinazugawa was, and how many guys had been needed to try to ‘take him on’, there was no doubt, they’d brought some weapons to possibly try to gain the upper hand.
“I’ll take you to the infirmary.”
“Hah? You got some balls, you know? If you let me go right now I won’t plummet you to the ground too.”
“You shouldn’t leave this injury untreated,” he insisted.
Shinazugawa frowned and spelled out through gritted teeth, “Let. Go. Before I lose my patience.”
But Giyuu just stared back, unwavering deep blue eyes staring right into Shinazugawa’s grey threatening ones.
A moment passed, but neither backed down.
Shinazugawa finally tsk’d, “You can get me a band-aid if that’ll make you go away.”
Giyuu nodded, relieved as he finally let go of the other’s arm.
“This way.”
As he silently walked along with the seething boy through the hallways and towards the school’s infirmary, he felt his rapidly beating heartbeat calm down. Why had he done that? Insist on helping the clearly unwilling new transfer student?
He wasn’t sure, he just…. remembered, when he’d just gotten into this school. The insults, the bullying. The resident delinquents bothered anyone they fancied while the school tried to keep up the facade that they had everything under control.
But most of all, the loneliness.
Because that’s what he saw whenever he looked at Shinazugawa, not talking to others, isolating himself, scaring anyone who approached him away.
He didn’t just see someone angry at the world. He saw loneliness and hurt. And no facade the other would put up could possibly conceal something he himself knew so intimately.
Perhaps it had been because of this.
Perhaps, something else.
------------
Oop and here it ends, I’m really looking forward to writing more Sanemi and Giyuu interaction, and Sabito out there being the best bro ever.

A mixed match haori—that’s all you remember the night you were attacked by demons. The moon was full in the sky, illuminating the white snow-dusted with red from the blood of the demons. Everything was clear around you, but the silhouetted figure in front of you. ‘Hauntingly beautiful blue eyes and a lovely mixed haori,’ you thought to yourself as you stared up at the man who had saved you, ‘Do you believe in love at first sight?’
Frowning to yourself as you remembered that distant memory, you walked down the dirt road towards the Butterfly House to rest from your tiring missions. Was it cliche and naive to say that you became a demon slayer just to find the mixed match haori wearer? Or was it cliche to say that you believe in love at first sight? You just wanted to see him one more time.
“(Name)? Did you just get back from a mission? I haven’t seen you in two weeks!” Aoi asked you as you entered the gates to the estate. You nod tiredly as you stretched out your sore limbs, “Yeah, just got back. Did anything new happen while I was gone?” you ask and Aoi responds with a frown.
“Yeah, we just took in some boys to train, so the place is a little busier,” Aoi states and you give her a sympathetic smile. “Sounds lively, I’ll go check in with Shinobu, see you later,” and with that, you made your way over to find the insect pillar.
As you walked through the seemingly quiet estate, you heard Shinobu’s voice in the courtyard around the corner, and it seemed like she was having a conversation. Raising a brow, you turn the corner curiously, “Shinobu? Who are you talking to?”
As soon as you turn the corner, your feet stop abruptly and you stare at the person in front of you. Your eyes widen and your heart flutters as he turns around to look at you.
“Beautiful blue eyes and a lovely haori..” you say quietly as your eyes catch his. Here he was after all this time.
“Ah, (Name)-chan! You’re back!” Shinobu chirps as she turns to greet you happily. “How was the mission? You were gone for so long I was getting worried!”
“It wasn’t bad, it was just hard…trying to locate…the demon..,” you trail off as your focus shifts over to the man in front of you.
Wow, he was gorgeous in the moonlight, but seeing him clearly in the sun was quite the view.
“(Name)-chan?” Shinobu waves her hand in front of you as she looks from you to Tomioka. She retreated her hand back towards her lips as she blocked her cheeky smile from you. ’(Name)-chan is totally smitten from Tomioka!’ Shinobu squeals as she observes the pair.
Tomioka was confused and couldn’t help but feel a little nervous from your stare; you suddenly popped out of nowhere and on top of that, just began to stare at him. He noticed that your cheeks were a rosy color and you looked flustered?
“U-um!” You shouted as you finally snapped out of your daydream. Taking a step towards him, you nervously held your hands together on your chest, biting your lip. “Do you remember me?”
You remember the moment he jumped in front of you, instantly slicing the head of the demon and saving you—giving you another chance at life. “Are you hurt?” were his first words to you and you’ve never forgotten them.
“I don’t know who you are, sorry..” he apologizes and you shrink back slightly embarrassed. “My name is (Last Name) (Name)! You saved me a few years back from some demons, I never got to say thank you,” you smile sheepishly as you give him a polite bow. “Thank you for saving my life.”
Tomioka never got a personal thank you from anybody he had saved. He had always left right after he had slayed the demon, leaving no room for any conversation, but here you were, in front of him telling him thank you. He couldn’t help but feel a little embarrassed himself.
“Do you,” you squeezed your eyes shut before opening them back up and taking another step towards the male, blush eminent on your cheeks, “Do you believe in love at first sight?!”
Shinobu choked beside Tomioka and he widened his eyes from your sudden exclamation.
“Or should I walk past again? Cause I can!” you shout determined as you took a step back, ready to walk past again. Suddenly you shot up and covered your mouth before giving another bow, “I’m sorry! I didn’t even get your name!”
He had just met you, but he could already tell you were going to be a handful.
-
You learned that his name was Tomioka Giyuu and that you made him very flustered from your sudden confession, according to Shinobu, as the two of you ate lunch together that afternoon.
“I never knew that you had already met Tomioka-san,” she chuckled and you shrugged at the insect pillar, “I’ve always liked him,” you inform and Shinobu sighs at you with a smile. “He isn’t that good with girls, and especially girls with such big personalities, like you.”
“Well, he’s going to have to get used to it because I’m going to get him to fall in love with me!” you exclaim as you clench your fist, determined with your new goal now that you had found your dream man. Shinobu chuckled lightly as she watched you, “Just make sure you don’t scare him off.”
And from that day forward, you vowed to yourself that you would get Tomioka Giyuu to fall in love with you.
Unfortunately for you, you quickly found out that this was one of the hardest missions you had ever been on.
Once you saw him training and decided to compliment him on his swordsmanship, “Wow, Tomioka-san! That was amazing, you’re so good! Maybe you could teach me someday?” you chirped and he jumped from your sudden voice before looking around nervously, “I’m too busy to teach anyone, maybe Kochou can teach you.” and with that, he quickly left the training ground.
Another time you saw him eating lunch with Rengoku, the Flame Pillar and you decided to join them. “Hi! Would it be okay if I ate lunch with you guys?” You ask as you held your tray of lunch behind the two males. Rengoku immediately brightened up from your appearance, but Tomioka flinched.
“Of course, (Name)! We would love to have you join us!” he exclaimed and you smiled happily before sitting down in between the two. “Thanks, Rengoku-san!” you chirped before turning over to Tomioka with a cheeky smile, “How’s your lunch?” Tomioka quickly got up and left with his lunch, leaving you heartbroken and sad.
Maybe you were too obnoxious for him? You frowned and leaned against Rengoku for support. “I’m really sad…” “Why are you sad (Name)!”
-
Every time you tried to talk to the male, he would one way or another find a way to excuse himself from being around you, and if you were being honest, it kinda hurt.
Were you that unlikeable?
Sighing to yourself, you walked down the snowy path as you took a trip to visit your parents. It had been a few months since you had tried to win Tomioka’s heart, but it didn’t look like you were nearly as close as your end goal. You didn’t even think you made any progress, in fact, you probably got him to hate you instead.
“Oh shoot, the sun has already gone down!” you exclaimed as you began to jog towards the nearest town. You were supposed to have gotten there before sundown, but you were so consumed in your thoughts that you didn’t realize how slow you were walking.
The sun was long gone by now and the moon was slowly rising into the night sky. Your breaths formed small white puffs in the cold air as you clutched onto your sword. Your mind went fuzzy as you looked down the endless white snow road, this was familiar.
Hearing a branch snap beside you, you quickly unsheathed your sword as you swung it in the air, slashing a demon in the neck. Their body hit the ground before dissolving into the air. Staring at their body, your white puffs of air became frequent as your memory seemed to rewind.
This is just like that night.
Before you knew it, you were tacked onto the snow by another demon and they managed to knock your sword out of your hand. “My sword!” you cried as you tried to keep the demon from biting you. Your legs kicked at the demon as you used your arms to push them back from your face.
“Stop resisting, you can’t do anything without your sword,” as the demon raised their arm, your eyes looked up and focused on the moonlight behind them.
It was just like that night, with the shimmering moonlight—except that night, Tomioka was there to save you.
You let out a piercing scream as the demon slashed your left shoulder, blood pooling beneath you as your breathing hitched. As the demon sat back, getting ready to unleash another attack, you quickly used all the force you had in your right arm to punch them, causing them to fall back off of you.
Quickly scrambling away, you stumbled towards your sword as you heard the demon come after you from behind. “Come back here!” they cried as you grabbed your sword before turning around.
Hands so shaky, you stared up at the demon who had landed their neck on your blade. Your eyes were wide and your heart beat rapidly as you watched the demon slump on your sword.
You clutched your chest where the demon’s hand had landed, they had managed to land a direct hit on you as well.
Pulling your sword out, you quickly cut their neck before falling onto the snow beside the deceased demon. Your blood died the pure white snow a dark red color as you tried to stop the blood from escaping with your breathing, but you couldn’t do it. You were too weak, you had no more energy from that ambush.
This was just like last time, although no one had come to save you.
All you could hear was your slow and shallow breathing beside the snow as you looked out into the dark woods. You really never did get Tomioka to fall in love with you.
You smiled as you imagined Tomioka yelling out your name. “It’s as if you were actually here,” he lightly joke before tears run down your face. Only fairytales and miracles didn’t exist.
“(Name)!”
There it was again. Why does Tomioka sound so worried in your imagination? Is this what happens when people die? They go crazy?
Suddenly you feel yourself being lifted up off the cold snow and into a warm pair of arms. Looking up, you were greeted with worried beautiful blue eyes and a mixed match haori.
“(Name), stay with me,” Tomioka’s soft voice lulled you to sleep as he wrapped his haori around your weak body. He cursed at himself as he held your body close to his before he dashed off to safety.
-
‘Ugh, my head is throbbing like crazy...’ Wincing in pain, you slowly open your eyes to the warmly lit room you were currently in. Turning your head, you were greeted with a small lantern and a sleeping Tomioka?
Blood rose to your cheeks as you quickly pulled the covers up towards your cheeks before you squeaked in pain. “Ow!”
The sleeping Tomioka woke up from your sudden cry before he suddenly snapped awake and leaning towards you cautiously, “You’re still injured, don’t move too much,” he stated quietly as you watched him flustered. Only your eyes peeked out from the blankets and Tomioka glanced away.
“I thought I died from that demon attack?” you question and Tomioka let out a sigh, “No, I managed to get to you before you passed out completely.”
He saved me again?
“I’m sorry you had to come and save me again; I’m so annoying, aren’t I?” You pulled the blanket up to cover your eyes before you started to sniffle under the blanket. “This is why you don’t like me..”
Tomioka froze from your words. Don’t like you? Is this what you thought he thought of you? That he didn’t like you.
“I-I don’t dislike you...” he stuttered and you grunt under the blanket like a child. “Yeah right,” you complain. “You always tried to escape from me because I’m so annoying. It’s so obvious.”
“That...wasn’t my intentions..” Tomioka replied nervously as he looked down, “You just made me nervous all the time because you were always happy and smiling—I didn’t know how to handle it..”
He glanced up at you, but you didn’t reply, your hands still holding your blanket over your face. “You are always talking with the other demon slayers and making everyone happy, and when you focused your attention on me, I just got overwhelmed.”
You slowly peeked your eyes out from the blanket as you finally looked at him again. He looked like he was struggling to find the words to explain his emotions and you secretly smiled at it. He was such a dork.
“I knew that you had romantic feelings towards me and the fact that you were always trying to talk to me, I didn’t know what to do.” Tomioka pursed his lips together. “But then, when I saw you lying on the bloody ground, I was scared that you died and that I didn’t make it on time.”
“But you saved me again and that’s all that matters, right? We’re here alive together now,” you finish with the biggest smile you could muster and it makes Tomioka’s heart skip a beat.
Why were you always so happy even during these hard times?
He knitted his brows with a saddened look as he looked at the ground, “I can't give you an answer on my feelings yet, but I enjoy having your company around (Name). Please continue to support me,” he says with a polite bow towards you and you smile at the man.
“I’ll continue to walk past you no matter how many times it takes until you fall in love with me, Tomioka!” You chirp with a light laugh and Tomioka smiled at you for the first time.
You didn’t need to walk past him too much—he could already feel himself falling in love with you every second.
