#icemav #top gun edit #ice is a FASCINATING one to watch post-hop 31 imo because while yes‚ obviously‚ the focus is on maverick and his grief and devastation #ice is there the whole time in the background‚ watching. and he's visibly disturbed by what he's seeing. because yeah -#he and mav had a rivalry going and yeah he called maverick dangerous and reckless to his face and he stands by that - he does.#but the problem is that this time - this one fluke freak accident of a time - it wasn't maverick's fault at all.#an unrecoverable flat spin brought on by a compressor stall from ice's jetwash isn't something that maverick could've outflown #by sticking to textbook maneuvers. it was just shit luck and shitty circumstances aligning to create a tragic mishap.#but now - now ice can see the way maverick is unraveling in the aftermath #and i'd bet that on some level it terrifies him to see that.#he's used to seeing maverick with all that brash cocky confidence with the moves to back it up.#he's maybe even had a bit of fun jockeying against that. not that he'd admit that out loud. (yet)#but maverick's spiraling now - a hollowed out shell of his former self - leaking grief and self-doubt and despair everywhere he goes #and it actually hurts to look at for ice‚ seeing maverick like this. seeing how much maverick really REALLY fucking cared under that facade #and wondering if maverick is finally taking the stuff ice said to him to heart‚ but applying it all wrong.#so he watches maverick and eventually that concern builds to a point where he tries to offer an olive branch in the locker room #you can SEE how carefully he gathers himself - how much he's holding back - he doesn't want to say the wrong thing to maverick NOW #he doesn't want to make this worse than it already is. so it comes out stilted. it's earnest - but restrained. he can't find his footing.#he doesn't know where he and maverick stand now but he's sorry - that goose is gone‚ that maverick's going through this‚#that he doesn't know how to help or what to say‚ and - crucially - for his own part in this.#but he wants mav to stick around and push through this. even though he's dangerous. even though he's reckless. ice wants him to beat this.#so when maverick shows up to graduation‚ ice is encouraged. and he's a little warmer. maverick really might pull through.#but then‚ all too soon‚ it's ice's life on the line in maverick's hands. and it scares the shit out of him because maverick's not ready #and now ice - and slider - are going to have to pay the price for that.#and then‚ against all odds‚ maverick pushes through. he comes back for them. he comes back for ice.#and after that...well.#after that‚ ice does know what to say: a vow.#my amvs #linds original

sorry to say but i do actually think the focus tlovm puts on showing the workings and backgrounds of npcs is actively taking away from one of the main things that made campaign 1’s story compelling (notably. vox machina and their bonds with each other beyond the people they’re in love with)

#sorry i don’t need to see ripley’s background when other dialogue has already told me she has experienced trauma and made shitty decisions #because of it #i also don’t need As Much screen time explaining to me that . kima and allura love each other and kima is hotheaded and it stresses allura #out. when at the same time it feels like vox machina hasn’t spoken to each other about anything other than battle plans at all this season #like. even the TWINS. yknow. the codependent freaks. have only spoken in quips during pre-battle things or as like.#conversations about the relationships they’re in #and don’t get me started on the fact that the hot tub scene (one i love to be clear) is deeply maddening because it’s the only conversation #vax and percy have. and it’s a fucking shovel talk.#the fact that what i thought was a compelling conversion of percahlia was made much less compelling by putting an emphasis #on telling the others. which while being just. feeling very surface. is stupid given the aforementioned vax shovel talk #tlovm spoilers #tlovm

Soichiro pats your head and always talks in a tone different than he uses for others. Cooes at you, talks like he’s guiding you through something or protecting you— cherry on top, though is how he'll look at you, really look at you, no more of that condescending of infantilzaing behavior, eyes open and you can see his pupils- like a predator's yet something akin to warmth, the most kindness he could even gather.

he pats you on the head and looks, "you still that innocent little kid with those big curious eyes, y'know?" and along the lines you can hear him ask silently, 'what do you want from me one last time?'

it's been years and it it still the same, if you could calculate how long you've spent with one another, as something- acquaintances, maybe- perhaps friends if you decided to expand the borders of the term. for someone you've known for so long, the time spent together is so little, yet none of it is up for comparison. not when you know the years inbetween he kept an eye on, and you always had an ear in the open, waiting for any mention of his name in the passing. the invisible hand that always reaches out from behind the shadows and that serpentine smile etched onto your memory forever.

maybe to the untrained eye, it'd appear soichiro will forever hold this power over you- that comes with all difference between your ranks once, with experience, age and everything else. yet the leash stands in your hand, his hand wrapped around yours tightly, offering it to you on golden platter with that smile always creating a storm at the pit of your stomach.
