Relax
- little!matt x cg!chris x cg!nick
- when nick and Chris get in an argument, it scares Matt and causes him to take the big emotions of anxiety into his little space.
“Dada?” Chris woke up the the sound of a knock filled by Matt calling for him, “you okay little man?” Chris asked opening his bedroom door to see Matt stood outside “we go get daddy?” Matt asked and chris nodded, making his way to nicks room matt following close behind.
Chris knocked on the door, welcomed by nicks response of “come in” , he opened the door to see nick only just having woken up “bud wanted his daddy” Chris explained as Matt walked towards nick who sat up to hug Matt.
“How old are you bud?” Nick asked and he held up 3 fingers “okay buddy, you wanna go get some breakfast?” Nick asked and Matt nodded, but he still clung to him even when he tried to get up out of bed “you want a piggy back?” He asked and matt nodded, nick gently stood him up on the bed, pulling him onto his back.
When they all got downstairs, chris turned on cars while nick started making breakfast. Matt sat on the couch with his bunny blanket under his arm and a blanket over his lap to keep him warm.
As they finished up their breakfast and nick put the plates in the dishwasher, Matt started complaining of his head hurting, he was a headache little.
Nick reminded Chris that they didn’t have any medicine for his headache, as certain medicines make him sick in his little space.
This started a shouting match between the two as to who’s fault it was that they didn’t have any medicine, both of them blaming each other for the mistake.
In the middle of the argument was Matt, who’s headache was getting worse from the yelling and who’s breath was quickening from the thought of them being mad at him, he didn’t understand that they weren’t mad at him they were mad at each other about something to do with him.
Chris heard the sniffles from Matt who was sat beside him on the couch, he looked over to see Matt who’s knees were hugged to his chest, his cheeks tear stained and his breath quick, his thumb between his teeth as he bit at the skin.
“Nick shut up I need to help matt” Chris cut nick off in the middle of his yelling rant.
“Hey buddy it’s okay, shhh shh shh” he whispered, moving closer to Matt, running a gentle hand through his hair. Nick quickly went upstairs, grabbing Matts binky box, he then took it to Matt who grabbed his favourite one and put it in his mouth.
Nick then sat down on the other side of Matt, hugging him from the other side.
“What’s wrong little man?” Chris asked and Matt looked between the two heifer taking out the binky “y-yous is mads at me a-and yous both y-yelling and me not like it” he hiccuped through tears “we’re not mad at you bud” nick confirmed “I’m sorry we yelled buddy but we’re not angry at you” Chris also added. “Yous promise?” Matt asked his tears coming to a stop “promise” nick and Chris both replied.
They both stayed hugged up to him for a while, Nick door-dashed matts medicine and gave it to him, turning on paw patrol and hugging Matt while he ate his favourite snacks and sat between his two cg’s
“Lobe you dada” Matt looked up at chris “love you too kid” he replied “hey what about me?” Nick called out in a fake hurt tone “I lobes you too silly daddy” Matt giggled “love you too bud” nick replied, they all decided today could just be a lazy day on the couch.

Ficlet-HELLATOBER Day 8- Exorcist
Summary:
In Which The Problem of Extermination Day leads to another Problem that Blitz had tried to avoid.
-------------------
Blitz grabs his keys and spins them on his finger, whistling a tune. But Loona grabs his shoulder before he leaves the house.
"Where are you going?" She asks. Blitz looks at her with a put off expression, "Uh-to the grocery store".
"No you're not! It's Extermination Day", Loona mentions and points to the 666 newscast she was watching.
It's a sick joke that all the main grocery stores are in Pentagram city. Meanwhile Imp city is only filled with convenience stores. None with fruit or eggs or milk of course. Blitz groans, running his hands down his eyes.
"Whaaat, I thought they just had it six months ago!" He stomps and she shrugs, "Guess they...changed their minds".
Blitz sighs and walks over to open their fridge again and slams it, empty.
"Loonie I gotta go, if I don't we won't have food for a good 24 hours", he says, and heads towards the door again.
But Loona runs in front of it, blocking him.
"No way. You think I'm letting you go there today? Do you know how many sinners look like imps? A lot of them. They'd kill you on accident for sure", she tells him nervously and Blitz frowns and crosses his arms, "Then what do you suggest we do cause I don't have money for eating out".
Loona stutters-"Well I don't exactly have another plan-...." She says and Blitz blinks, "Then move missy, I gotta go. You aren't going hungry on my watch".
She panics as he tries to move her paw from the doorknob and yells out, "I'll call Stolas!" Her eyes go wide. Blitz blinks rapidly, "What?"
"I'll call him if you go", she says and he snickers, "Pff, I'm not scared of him".
"But you're afraid to talk to him", she says smugly, crossing her arms now. He growls under his breath and pushes her gently aside.
"No I'm not. And I'm going. You stay here", he says, heading out the door.
"Suit yourself!" She yells as he leaves. Then dials her phone.
Blitz groans and mutters to himself as he gets in his car, "Fuckin' call Stols if I decide to go to the damn grocery store, I'm a fuckin assassin I can handle myself with other assassins. Fuckin angel bitches-" he starts the car and as he does, someone else joins him in the passenger seat of the van.
"Well hello Blitz", Stolas says and Blitz jumps, eyes wide, then facepalming.
"She really called you?! Fuckin-im sorry Stols it's no big deal you can go", he tells him and Stolas looks to the ground then back at him.
"You would like me to leave?" He asks. Fuck. of course he never wants Stolas to leave. But he hasn't seen him since the party and...that...ended interestingly.
Blitz swallows the stone in his throat, "I- mean if you want to that is I guess. Whatever Loonie said, I don't need help".
"I admit she didn't say much, just, Blitz, exorcist, help", he giggles but Blitz's mouth is agape. He came to be with him for just three words?
"Yeah well-im fine", he says again but starts driving, and Stolas's beak forms a line as he taps his fingers on the dash.
"I'm going to the grocery store", he says. Stolas nods, "Ah".
They continue driving in silence until Blitz gets to the mouth of the tunnel to Pentagram City and he stops suddenly on the side of the road with his hazard lights on.
Stolas looks around, "Is there something wrong with the van?" Blitz laughs, "Why are you here Stolas".
Stolas stutters now, "W-well I care-". Blitz takes a deep breath, "Do you?"
"What?!" Stolas blinks, "Of course". Blitz groans and rubs his face, "Because every time I come to you, it's 'oh Blitz, I can't see you' but then I need you and what you're fine?"
The owl in his passenger seat stays quiet. Letting him rant.
"I mean just fucking choose, Stols! I can't keep playing this damn game okay?"
He puts his hand to his chest now, "Game?! You think this is a game, Blitz?! It wouldn't have to be a game if you just told me your feelings initially instead of stringing me along like I should know everything about your subtlety! Well I don't! So why don't y-you spell it out for me Blitz!"
"Was that succubus fucker a better kisser than me?" He demands.
"What?!" Stolas asks incredulously. Blitz crawls toward him, "Did he fiddle your holes the way I do? Did you think about me the whole night? Or did you just move on to another imp? To another poor sap who's going to be disappointed when they make a connection with you".
Stolas chokes back a sob and holds his mouth, "Blitz I didn't mean- that's not-" he insists and reaches out to him but Blitz swipes him away.
"No, get out of my van Stols", he says, pointing.
"What?!" The tears escape Stolas's hand. The corners of Blitz's eyes tearing now as well.
"I said get out!!!!", he yells, and Stolas climbs out hurriedly, holding himself.
Blitz gets out too and walks towards him and Stolas takes a step back but Blitz just sits on the ground with his head in his hands. Stolas looks up, willing away tears.
"I loved you", Blitz mumbles. "What?" Stolas replies. He walks closer to him and sits on the grassy ground next to him on the side of the road.
After a few moments of silence, "I care for you too", he says. Blitz turns and holds his head.
"What? What did I say!" Stolas says, tears forming again.
"You can't say it. What I said", Blitz squeezes his eyes shut, "I don't blame you".
Something clicks in his brain and he holds Blitz hand, him letting him. Blitz keeping his eyes shut.
"Blitz I don't know what love means", he explains, the tears falling down his face. "What?" Blitz replies, opening his eyes and tears fall.
"I...told you I just want to be wanted. Because Ive never been wanted even by family. I don't..I don't know love I don't know what that feels like", he tells him and blinks as Blitz puts his hand onto Stolas's cheek and wipes some of his tears.
"You're ruining your pretty feathers, feathers", he says and Stolas grabs his hand gently, "I'm being serious here Blitz".
"I know", he says and looks in Stolas's eyes, "I Love you Stolas. That's...I can show you. Let me show you?" He asks desperately, scooching closer to him.
Stolas smiles and nods, eyes squeezing tears away as Blitz takes his cheeks gently and kisses his forehead and caresses his claw down the back of his head, sitting in his lap and gives him soft kisses all over his face. Then finally to his lips. So gentle. The kind of kiss Stolas has never experienced from Blitz, or anyone.
"I care for you Stols", he squeezes him tight and Stolas returns the favor and they stay like this for a while. Until that is, they realize they're still sitting on th side of the road. People honking once in a while.
Stolas chuckles, "I suppose we should go to the grocery before your daughter starves?" He asks Blitz.
Blitz stands up and offers a hand to Stolas, pulling him up. They get back in the car, Blitz clearing more room for Stolas's legs and restarts the car.
Blitz smiles to Stolas, "Alright. Let's go kick some angel ass".

Hey there! I’m really happy you liked the name! (I also thought of naming him Ragnar but I think Björn suits better for him!).
I like to imagine that since Björn means bear in Norse, Thor and his family calls him ‘cub’ as a affectionate nickname, although Björn particularly isn’t so fond of it he doesn’t mind his new family calls him like that.
Do you think Odin would get some tiny interest in Björn now that he’s being made a warrior because of Thor or do you believe that he will keep focused on Atreus/Loki?
Gosh! Imagine Björn is training with Thrud in the forest and they cross ways with Atreus that was worried sick because of Björn’s disappearance and gets mad when he tells him that he was adopted by Thor!
Sorry for the ranting, many things came to my mind and I think that you would like it 😅
Broken Truth: Hey there, my friend! Let's see what you have given this time. (Reads the ask) Interesting as always and simple enough. Alright, let the words weave together!!!
[Asgard]
Björn was eating breakfast with Thrud and Sif when the door opened and Thor walked in with a smile on his face & humming a tone before he walked over to the table, placed a hand on Sif's Shoulder, and gave her a kiss on her cheek before sitting in his chair and turning his gaze to the two children.
"Good morning, you two. How did you sleep?" Thor asked as he reached for the tankard filled with drink.
"I slept fine, Father, but the little chub was having a hard time sleeping." Thrud said as she looked at her brother, who blushed at the name and groaned. Thor looked at Björn, who was munching on a piece of meat before he opened his mouth to speak to his son.
"Little Cub, is there something you don't want us to know?" Thor asked.
"I'm not having a hard time sleeping, Father, I'm just not sleepy sometimes. I suffered from insomnia when I was living with Kratos and Loki." Björn explained before he finished his meat and consumed his drink. "And I'm not a cub, Father, I'm a Mighty Bear."
"You may be able to turn into one but you will always be my little cub, Björn." Sif smiled, and he groaned again, making his family chuckle at his expense. Björn loved his family and wanted to make them happy but he couldn't help but think about the family he was bound to by blood and wonder what they were doing without him.
"Björn, I forgot to tell you - today, you and I are going to see your grandfather." Thor said causing Sif and Thrud to look at Thor with concern in their eyes and Björn was confused.
"Grandfather? Do you mean Lord Odin? The All-Father himself?" Björn asked as he looked at Thor with a smile of excitement.
"Yes. He wanted to meet you and see your skills as a warrior. I told him I've been training you and your sister and he wants to see your skills." Thor explained and Björn's smile grew to the point you could see his canines.
"Thor, are you sure that our son is ready for something like that? Training before the All-Father isn't something lightly taken and what if he fails?" Sif asked with concern in her voice.
"Don't worry, Mother." Björn smiled at Sif with a nod, "Thrud and I are being trained by the best and we can show the All-Father our skills and maybe he'll send us on some missions like he does with Father and Heimdall."
"Okay. I understand but be careful in Midgard and don't go too far in your power." Sif asked.
"Yes, Mother, we understand." Björn said before rising to his feet to get his sword from his room.
[Midgard]
Björn dashed at Thrud with his sword in hand and swung with all his might in his right arm but it was blocked by Thrud who tried to sweep him off his feet, Björn backed away before her foot could touch him. The two of the danced around each other, clashing swords and dodging attacks for the onlookers on the sidelines. The All-Father - Odin - watched his grandchildren fight like the skilled warriors they were and he smiled before looking at Thor, who was standing beside him while Heimdall was on the other side of the All-Father.
"They both are skilled warriors, you've trained them well, Thor." Odin said.
"Thank you, Father." Thor said with a proud look on his face with his kids sparring before Björn disarmed Thrud and pointed his sword at her neck, causing her to lift her hands up in surrender.
"Alright. That's enough." Odin said as he walked over to the children, Thrud picked up her sword and sheathed it while Björn did the same. "You both are rather skilled for your young ages. If you keep this up, I'll let you 2 go on missions together."
"Thank you, All-Father." Björn & Thrud said together when Björn started sniffing the air - something was coming. He turned around when the bushes began shaking and he pulled his sword out; everyone looked in that direction with their weapons drawn except for Heimdall, who was smirking. A single body comes from the bushes and when Björn locked eyes with the figure, his jaw dropped and his sword was lowered.
"Björn?" The figure asked with wide eyes and a low voice.
"Atreus?" Björn said - that's right, the one before them all was none other than Atreus - Björn's Older Twin Brother.
"Loki..." Odin said, Thor glared at Atreus, and Heimdall was still standing there smirking.
"Björn, it's really you. Where were you? Father and I were looking for you after you ran away all those months ago. What happened to you? Come home, father will be so happy to see you." Atreus took a step forward but Björn took a step back, closer to Thor, who placed a hand on his shoulder. "Björn?"
"Don't speak to my son, Loki." Thor grumbled as he glared at Atreus with a snare.
"Your son? That's my brother!" Atreus yelled.
"Not anymore, Loki," Thrud said as she walked over to Björn's other side, placing a hand on his other shoulder. "He's my brother now."
"You... What did you do to him?!" Atreus yelled as he pulled out his bow and arrow before loading it in his arrow and aiming it at Thrud but Björn got in the way of the arrow.
"Touch my sister and I will make you suffer, Atreus." Björn growled at him. Atreus looked shocked at his brother - standing up for the Aesir like that instead of coming home to the place where his blood was. Odin called for the ravens and the group of Aesir and Björn were gone in a cyclone of unkindness (A Group of Ravens is called an Unkindness.).

July 1st, 1985
what the first ep of (my) s3 would look like if the main concept was: both Steve and Will are gay in 1985’s Summer of Love and the town’s enemy is a little more human; loving friendships, very confused adults, and Will Byers Actually Getting Help
“Harrington!”
“Yes, sir.” Steve looked up from his desk. He dropped his crossword and looked to be at attention; the police station’s phone wasn’t ringing, though, so there wasn’t really anything he should have been doing. Hopper stepped out of his office, angling himself toward the door rather than Steve’s desk island.
“Do you think you’ll be able to-- Harrington, what are you doing?” Hopper caught sight of the pocket thesaurus sitting on his desk (the last name written on the inside cover not belonging to Steve, of course). Hopper fixed his sunglasses on the edge of his nose, looking over them and down at Steve.
“I’m just, uh, working on my vocabulary.” Steve said. Hopper blinked twice, waiting. Steve wasn’t going to say the truth: he was dating-- well seeing someone-- way smarter than him. This wasn’t for joy or boredom. He was studying to impress. “It’s college prep, sir.”
“The crossword?” The chief evened his stare. “This your old man’s suggestion?” Of all the things Steve’s father was telling him to do with himself, he wished some of it was simply pecking at a crossword over a twelve hour shift. Fucking off and being a better piece of shit son just wasn’t feasible to accomplish in one summer.
“He swears by it.”
“Okay, well. Uh, moving on from that,” Hopper grabbed his hat from the coat rack. The topic of Steve’s father always made Hopper stiffen up; it was definitely the main reason Hopper gave Steve his job at the station, but it still created more questions. Steve knew Hopper and his father went to high school together, but he never asked his father about those years-- beyond his baseball glory stories. “I’ve got plans tonight and I need to head out early. Can you handle things on your own for a while. At least until the night shift comes in?”
“I’ll be fine.” Steve made sure not to acknowledge the crossword on his desk as he nodded. He was really good at his job, he was. He was also just, unfortunately, still a pretty shitty boyfriend and needed all the vocab help he could get. “What’s the pressing story?”
“I have dinner.” Hopper was already trying to walk out the door. “So don’t call me. For the love of God.”
“Oh, don’t worry, Chief. I--” Steve was sure it was the cool July wind that slammed the door on the last half of his sentence. Not Hopper. “won’t... Have a good time, I guess.”
The police station was empty: it was another boring and wonderfully quiet Monday in Hawkins. There’d been some calls to break up disturbances at city hall in the past few days, but somehow everyone just seemed to agree that Mondays-- the longest shift of Steve's whole week-- was the day everyone went about their quietest day.
There were a few officers milling in and out of the back lounge and front door, casting a quick glance to Steve as he muttered and threatened fourteen down and six across. Nancy had been helping close the gaps of his post-high school education-- without knowing just what for-- but had been picking up most hours at the Post to try and elbow her way into their good graces; it put his tutoring on hold. So here he was, groaning at some clues about classical artists he’d never heard of.
There were other reasons Steve was sure the other officers thought he was odd-- things he was sure his father had passed along in spitting rants-- but Steve didn’t mind. No one said anything to his face.
“Hey Flo! Is, uh, is Steve here?” The question was asked with the answer already in mind.
Steve sat up in his chair, twisting around to see down the hall to the back entrance to the station. There weren’t many parking spots to fill, but he knew a certain someone who preferred it to street parking.
“Jonathan?”
“Oh, I hear him. Thanks-- hey!” Jonathan hurried out from the hall, his camera bumping against his stomach and bag slapping against his leg in the same rhythm. He’d gotten a new haircut recently: semi-wonky bangs and a closer cut in the back. All thanks to Steve’s peer pressure and Mrs. Byers’s kitchen shears.
“What are you doing here?”
“Sorry to stop by your work like this--” he lowered his voice as he stopped at the corner of Steve’s desk. “I know we said we wouldn’t do that, but we got an extra muffin in the lunch order and I know you’re always starving after a Monday shift so.” Jonathan produced a folded brown paper bag from his satchel. “Here.”
“Oh, thanks.” Steve wanted to say so much more, but had to settle. No more. None of what they’d decided they wouldn’t say. Not until the summer had ended. They wanted to see if they lasted longer than the convenience of loose summer schedules.
“Won’t I see you, uh, later, though?” At eight, when Steve got sent home he always drove straight to Jonathan’s. Jonathan started late on Tuesdays and Steve had off; they had the time to waste. “Or is this your way of telling me to stay home?”
“No! No we’re still... hanging out.” Jonathan had gotten really good at cooking and treated Steve to weekly dinner. It was a nice gesture at first, but Steve started growing fond of the company. They both did around mid-June. “But, I think Mike’s going to be over so. Be cool , alright? Keep it cool.”
“Cool, got it.” Steve leaned back in his chair. He moved his papers to leave a corner of his desk for Jonathan to sit on. No one was in the main office; it was a harmless invitation.
“I have to get going...” It sounded like an excuse, a dive for safety. “And I’m sure you have, um, puzzles to do?” Jonathan pretended not to be endeared. He tried, he really did. He failed , but Steve pretended he didn’t notice.
“Don’t want to sit and help me figure out the title of Mozart’s last opera?” He patted the desk, daring to be more direct.
“I really have to go.” Jonathan was genuine, looking at his watch. “The Post only let me out early today because I have to go pick up Will from his doctor’s appointment.”
“Wait.” Steve put the cap back on his pen. “Isn’t Will’s therapy on Wednesday?”
“Yeah, but with Mom’s schedule and the store being all weird-- we had to move it to today. And you know we typically have a family night after-- so he feels okay, you know-- but we can’t . So, that’s why Mike’s coming over. Hopefully they’ll be idiots and tire Will out and he’ll sleep okay.” Tension rose in Jonathan’s voice quickly, explaining his day as if going over a laundry list; never rehearsing it but having it memorized.
“I can stay home if you need time, Jonathan.”
“No, really. I want you to come over.” Jonathan sighed and placed his hand on the emptied spot on Steve’s desk. “Besides, you can’t break tradition after a little over one month , then it was just a weird habit.”
Steve Harrington did not consider his summer fling a w eird habit . If anything, it was the most sensical thing he’d done in a very long time. Even after getting rejected from all his colleges, and never hearing the end of his father’s lectures, 1985 had been very kind to him. And that was mostly due to Jonathan’s inherent nature to be the same.
“I’ll see you after eight.” Steve smiled and reached for his hand-- but averted to grab a piece of memo paper by the phone.
“I’m sorry to leave in a rush.” Jonathan hitched his bag up, checking his watch again. “I just, I really need to get going.”
“Don’t worry. The muffin is more than enough.” Steve said. “And seeing you wasn’t too bad either.”
“Slow day, huh?” Jonathan said. The corner of his mouth quirked with a flattered, embarrassed smile. Steve tried to act nonchalant, like he wasn’t so goddamn relieved to see a familiar and happy face. Especially his familiar and happy face. “Well, good thing I have another surprise for you.”
“You can barely fit your camera in that bag, what could you possibly-- hey!” Steve missed grabbing Jonathan’s arm as he walked away, heading for the front door. “Where are you going?” Jonathan kept walking, checking his watch the whole way. “Hello?”
“Delivered right on time.” Jonathan pushed the front door open to the station-- but was nearly knocked over as a green dash barreled through it.
"Steve! Steve! Steve!” The dash was suddenly grabbing him by the shoulders. “You got the job!”
“Henderson! Oh my god! You’re back!” In an unlikely impulse, Steve grabbed Dustin in a hug, taking advantage of the change of height. “Holy shit, I nearly forgot! First of the month!”
“See you, Steve.” Jonathan walked across the room to the back entrance again. His hand braced the back of Steve’s chair, brushing across his shoulders.
“O-Okay! Yeah, see you!” Steve sputtered, losing his reminded cool in an instant. “Bye.”
Dustin pulled away slowly. “What was that?” It looked like everyone was too smart for Steve.
“Nothing. He brought me a surprise lunch-- which was an obvious decoy to the main event! You! How are you, buddy? How was camp?”
“Oh, it was fantastic. Steve, I have to show you all my inventions! Camp was the best four weeks of my life .” Dustin hopped up onto the corner of his desk. His heels tapped against the empty metal drawers. He was jittery, nearly uncontainable, but still so composed-- if only to be focused all on Steve.
Steve held his hands out, letting him start. “Lay it on me, Henderson! I want to hear everything. I missed you like crazy.”
“Well, first, obviously. I have to tell you about my girlfriend--”
“Whoa! Whoa! Girlfriend ? That fast?” Steve hadn’t been expecting any of his dating advice to work. It had been coming from such a poor and confused part of himself, Steve figured it was destined to fail. Apparently, it was just Steve that was-- when flirting with women at least. “Damn, there’s something in you after all!”
“She’s super smart, Steve. I’ve never met any girl like her. She’s a genius and she’s so pretty. God, I miss her already-- and I just saw her.”
Steve looked over his shoulder. He knew the feeling. “That’s great, man. I mean, I’m super happy for you. Like, that’s crazy . That’s freaking awesome.”
“So what about you? How are the ladies? I mean, you work for the Chief now. All the ladies you could need and more, am I right?”
Steve used to be really good at this part of the lie, but with Dustin it felt cheap. He didn’t need to lie to him, but that was the deal; no matter how much that person was Steve’s best and most beloved friend, their secret was a dead-bolt, vaulted secret.
“Eh, not too great. Only girl my own age I see-- besides Nancy, really-- is the night-shift girl, Robin. But she’s not really-- we’re just friends. She’s alright. Leaves me weird drawings in the memo pad.”
“Ooo, she sounds cool.” Dustin raised his eyebrows. “Do you know her from school?”
“Yeah, we didn’t really run in the same crowds but-- it’s not like that, man. It’s really not.” Steve started unwrapping his lunch. “It’s so not like that with Robin.”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“It means I’m not... looking at the moment.”
Steve had originally decided to not go looking for trouble. After he and Nancy split in the beginning of his senior year, he didn’t start looking for an immediate replacement. The illusion of thinking he was in love with Nancy-- capable of being in love with Nancy-- was a hard thing to have come crumbling down. Steve needed time to get his own bearings, to put his feet firmly on the ground, and have them lifted off when his father grabbed him by the lapels and--
Steve hadn’t gone looking for trouble. Hadn’t gone looking for love either. But somehow, both seemed to find him.
Jonathan was late. He usually wasn’t but Will was trying not to be worried. It was a different day than usual and he knew how awful Jonathan’s boss and co-workers were. Will tried not to be worried-- he wasn't. It was just that he had spent an hour talking about the night his father left their family; standing outside the doctor’s office was a bit nerve-wracking. It felt too familiar, even with all the talking and note-scribbling.
Finally, Jonathan’s car pulled into the lot. He was speeding, as much as his car could speed: he knew he was late, which made Will feel a little bit better. No one had forgotten him. It was just traffic or his bosses or maybe just hitting all the red lights. As Jonathan stopped in front of the curb and waved Will in, Will could see he was jittery-- he was upset that he was late. Will felt bad for counting the minutes.
Not that he did it out of impatience or anything. Will just formed the habit after getting his new watch. It matched Mike’s. Completely on accident, of course.
“Hey, buddy! Sorry I’m late. I was-- I had to run an errand really fast. How long were you waiting.” He moved his bag and threw it onto the backseat. Will would’ve held it on his lap.
“I wasn’t keeping track.” Will said, climbing into the passenger seat. Will wanted to ask if his bag had Jonathan’s camera in it. If everything was okay. He didn’t. It seemed like Jonathan had been in his therapy with Will, just as shaken up. “It’s okay. Thanks for getting me.”
Jonathan waited until Will put on his seat belt. “Of course. We’re always here to pick you up. Therapy is important; you have to go.”
Will laughed before he could stop himself. “You sound like Mom.” Why?
“Because she’s right.” Therapy was still kind of weird to Will-- since no one else in his grade had to do it-- but he humored his family. It was helping, if he had to admit it. But it was still embarrassing sometimes.
His therapist, Dr. Bright-- Rose Marie, as she insisted on being called-- was a send-out from the Lab, but disguised within a private practice just outside of town. She was able to listen to Will talk about what he saw and felt during his time with the Mind Flayer without trying to commit him. Almost nothing was off limits. Almost nothing.
Will checked his watch again.
“Are you excited to see Mike tonight?” The question was pointed, but Will wasn’t sure why it made him nervous. “I mean, I feel like I haven’t seen him in a bit.”
“Oh, yeah. He’s always with El.”
Will was sure they weren’t dating. El was just on a year-long stint of self-discovery and, besides Max, Mike was the person she trusted the most to help make as many helpful mistakes as possible. He bought her books to read and new music to try. It was really sweet, seeing Mike take such big strides toward helping their friend. But there was also a part of Will that felt dejected: his sort of help had to be prescribed and couldn’t be replaced with a warm laugh from one Mike Wheeler.
Will was sick while his friends were growing.
“Is there something wrong?” Jonathan used to ask the question like Will was one trembling lip away from crying-- but this time, he asked it like Will had his hand on the door, seconds from jumping out. “Will, are you okay?”
“Yeah.” Will nodded. “I’m fine. Just-- I talked a lot today and I’m tired.”
“Do you want to cancel with Mike--”
“No.” Will had been looking forward to having time with Mike-- just Mike-- for a whole week. He wanted to sit on his floor with his best friend and be a kid again. Just for the night-- maybe draw some of Mike’s old campaigns or sketch out an idea for his own. He just wanted to remember something good about the past four years. After his hour with Dr. Bright, it all felt painful. Like his childhood naivety had been broken and every conversation he overheard in his house dripped with venom and disdain.
Will didn’t like picturing his house that way. It was a place that loved and raised him, a place he felt safe. He didn’t like thinking the conversations he heard being screamed through the walls were trapped in the drywall.
His arms felt heavy and his chest felt like it was made of metal-- he kept tasting it in his mouth. Will leaned back against the seat and reached for the radio. Jonathan turned it down before Will had even changed the station.
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, I just want to see Mike.” Will said, his mouth too honest and his mind shrouded in guilt. “I just want to see my friend.”
“Okay. Okay.” Jonathan nodded somewhat somberly. “I understand. Let’s go pick him up. He’s at his house right? Not El’s-- o-or The Sinclair’s or anything?”
“No. He’s at his.” Will crossed his arms and tried to find the loose string-- the thing that could uncoil Jonathan’s still-tightening anxiety. “Are you still dating Nancy?”
Jonathan turned to look at Will, nearly crashing the car. That was the wrong string. “What?”
“Nancy? Are you still dating her?”
“I was never dating Nancy.” Jonathan laughed, shaking his head. “I’m not dating Mike’s sister, don’t worry.” The clarification was strange and felt off-topic. Like Jonathan was trying to talk about something else.
“I thought you were. You guys hung out a lot during school.” Will heard her voice through the walls too. Always gentle, never yelling. Except when she was losing at playing cards. Then she shouted.
“She was helping me pass chemistry. That’s all.” Jonathan turned the radio up a little. Will checked his watch. “And then she helped me apply to the Post internship-- she’s great at writing papers, did you know that? A real wordsmith. Is Mike a writer too?”
He was, he really was. Grammatically, Will ran out of red pens trying to help, but creatively? Will envied Mike’s ability. “I don’t know. We don’t really talk about that kind of stuff like you two do… Since you two are dating.”
“We’re not .” Jonathan laughed. Will took advantage of an upcoming stop sign to lean forward and look at his brother’s crimson face. “We’re not, Will, okay? We’re really not. I’d tell you.”
“You’d tell me?”
“Of course! I’d tell you if I… I had a girlfriend. Which I don’t!” He stayed at the stop sign for a bit too long. “Do you?”
There was an option to play dumb, to make Jonathan ask more directly: do you have a girlfriend, Will ? but it sounded far more painful than being honest, than being as lonely as he was.
“No. I don’t.”
“And you’d tell me. If you were dating someone?” Jonathan looked at Will, hopeful but scarcely so. “You’ll tell me if anything big happens in your life?”
“Yeah.” There wouldn’t be anything happening at all that summer, that was for damn sure . “Absolutely.”
Steve had about seventy percent of his puzzle done-- fifty of which was because Dustin was an unstoppable genius with no tolerance for Steve’s careful pace. It was just about quarter past seven, and Steve’s back was getting sore from sitting in his chair all day. He only liked sitting when it was in his car, on his way to the Byers's House, careful, of course, to obey all traffic laws.
Steve was packing his crosswords and pens up in the top drawer of his desk when something clattered the back door open. Steve grabbed a pen and whipped around in his seat, as if to wield it like a weapon.
“Hello? Who’s there?”
“Hey dingus.” Luckily, Steve couldn’t even see Robin yet-- or rather, she couldn’t see him or his emphasized eye roll. She could hear him groan though. “Hey, shut up and quit whining. I’m sending you home early.”
Her head popped out from the hallway. Robin’s ponytail was high on her head, the hair flopping over and getting caught in her stringy bangs. She flung her backpack out from behind her and tossed it toward Steve. She wasn’t in her uniform yet, only wearing the buttoned up shirt-- unbuttoned and showing her torn and dyed shirt underneath. She was wearing jogging shorts, her knees torn up and covered with Band-Aids. They reminded Steve of the ones taped to his face after getting a plate smashed into his forehead. Deceivingly cheerful.
“What are you doing here early?” Steve stood and followed her, holding her backpack awkwardly in his hands. “You’re never early.” Eight on the dot. Every time.
“I figure you want to get out of here tonight.” She didn’t even stop to look at Steve as they walked into the back room. “Probably want to see your boyfriend.”
Her words weren’t sharp, but Steve still recoiled. He let his arms, and her bag, hang by his sides.
“Who? Jonathan?” The only way Jonathan and Robin had ever met was in the hallways of Hawkins High. She definitely never saw them interact at the station-- or on any of their nights together: they were always indoors. “He’s not my boyfriend.”
“First off, I didn't even say a name." Shit. "Second, he came in the other day looking for you.” Robin started buttoning her shirt up, fixing the collar as she finally turned to see Steve. “He was really upset-- didn’t even know what time it was to know you weren’t working.”
“Upset?” Technically, it wasn’t Steve’s problem. It was the deal; they didn’t have to care about each other’s lives. It was just summer. It was just like any other summer.
“Yeah. Crying, sniffling, snot-- the whole nine, man.” Robin sounded extremely sympathetic despite beginning to change her pants. Steve whipped around, covering his face. “You should go see him. Make sure he’s okay. Be a good boyfriend... shithead.”
“He’s not--”
“Steve, I’m the last person you should be arguing with.” Robin laughed-- and it was only momentarily threatening. Until, of course, Steve realized what she meant.
Like all good secrets kept at Hawkins PD, Steve kept his mouth shut and nodded even if she wasn’t looking.
“Yes, sir--ma'am-- Robin.”
“So, are you going to go or what, dingus?” She tapped him on the shoulder. “Get out of here-- and tell me all about it Wednesday.”
Steve blinked at her, holding out her bag. As if it was enough thanks to give her back her own property. “Are we… friends, or something?”
“No, of course not.” She winked, slapping his arm. “Just looking out for one of my own.”
After picking Mike up from his house, they drove home in uncharacteristic chatter. Jonathan was the only one speaking, humming along to the radio. Will was exhausted beyond performative small talk; the type that had to be done between two best friends when a third party was present. Mike was great at just sitting with Will in silence, but Jonathan didn’t know that. Instead, the three of them passed around quiet jokes and laughter, answering questions about their friends for Jonathan’s upkeep of information.
Once they got in the house, Jonathan let them wander off into Will’s room as he started pulling pots out of the kitchen cabinets. He wouldn’t bother or pester them about any summer work, either. They would be left alone in their own coupled silence.
Mike was sitting cross-legged on Will’s floor, twisting one of Will's crayons between his fingers. Will needed new ones but he felt funny asking for them as a near-freshman in high school. He liked the glide of wax on paper compared to the scrape of colored pencils. Well, that and the fact he ruined half of his crayons the year prior making a full map of Hawkins in a fugue state and only had two crayons able to be used normally.
“You had doctor stuff today, right?”
Will was digging under his bed for his emptier sketch book. “Yeah. Therapy. Doctor doctor stuff was two weeks ago.”
“How was it?” Mike let his hand still and rest in his lap. “Like, what do you do in therapy? Just start talking?”
“Yeah, but it’s more than that. You have to think about stuff too. Doctors ask you questions, sometimes.” Will pulled back and drug his old drawing supplies along the carpet. He sat back on his heels and was able to see Mike over the top of the bed. He didn’t know Will was looking. “You have to have answers.”
“What do they ask about?” Mike kept looking at his hands, unaware of Will. “Upside down stuff?”
“Sometimes.” Will shuffled back around to Mike's side of the bed. He could feel the tiniest bit of rug burn starting. “She asked me about my dad today.”
Mike looked up, almost immediately. “Can she do that?”
“Why can’t she?” Will popped the lid on the retired Tupperware, now his art bin. “I talked about it.”
“I thought you didn’t like to.” Will had never said those words which meant Mike had gathered it from just observing him. “Did you… like talking about it?”
“Not really.” Will laughed. He found a few extra crayons, but of all the wrong colors. “She had this big speech afterward about learned helplessness that I… really didn’t like.” Will tried to keep laughing.
Mike put the crayon back in the bin. “Are you okay, Will?”
“Yeah. It’s just… the same old stuff.” Will shrugged. “Sometimes it just bothers me more than other days.”
Mike bit the inside of his cheek, picking at his words carefully. “You never talk about your dad, Will.”
“Why would I?”
“Because it bothers you. You can talk about anything you want-- I… I would listen.”
“You don’t have to listen to it just because it happened to me, you know. My therapist says you don’t have to experience things with me for them to be real.”
“But I want to know.” Mike looked insulted, almost crushed and collapsed as he sat back on his hands. “That’s your dad,” he said. “And you’re my friend.”
They sat in silence for a while. Mike went back to studying a new crayon, picking at the wrapper. Will felt something forming in his throat. A bubble that was hot, thick and sticky. Not vomit, but not impending tears either.
“I don’t get why he left.” Will said. “I don’t know what happened to our family.”
“Nothing happened. Maybe he just… wasn’t good at being your dad anymore.”
“But then why? What did I do?” Will didn’t want to ask Mike, make him feel responsible for answering, but Will was desperate to ask the universe again.
“Nothing.” Mike said. “I just think he…”
“He what? My dad got tired of me? Didn’t want to raise me?”
“Maybe he actually learned how to take a hint and knew he wasn’t good enough for you and Jonathan-- or your mom.” Mike wanted to be hopeful, to be positive, so badly. He ached, his smile tight and weak. He didn't have the answers, and who was Will to put him in the position to come up with them.
“So he gave up.” Will said.
“That’s not what I meant--”
“I know. I know… That’s just how it feels.” Will shrugged. He smiled at Mike, accepting his help and his warmth. It hurt knowing that Mike was wrong, but still. Will could always pretend a little longer. Anything for Mike.
“Hey! You monsters hungry?” Steve clapped his hands together before gently tapping the door. “Jonathan’s got dinner on the table.”
The door was open. Steve didn’t have to knock. He wanted to, just to prove he wasn’t too comfortable, but he also knew Mike was over. And knocking would announce his entrance rather than letting it just be something that just was . Rather than being cool .
Awkwardly and with a lot of weird, throat-clearing fanfare, Steve opened the Byers’s front door and poked his head inside. Jonathan called him in from the kitchen without even needing to say hello, or being surprised by his walking in: In here, Steve! Dinner’s almost done .
Steve walked through the living room carefully, as if he’d disturb it. There was a tape playing softly-- some band Steve’s never heard of, but didn’t hate. He’d grown to like the way that every song played in the Byers house was always moody and melancholy. The music was always the opposite of how he felt stepping into the kitchen.
Jonathan was at the stove, stirring a pot of something that smelled delicious. He had what looked to be tomato sauce stains on the front of his shirt-- where he wrapped his hand up to open the sauce jar. Steve was able to hide his smile as he shouldered off his uniform jacket and toed off his shoes, claiming a chair at the kitchen table.
“How was work?” Jonathan didn’t stop stirring. He moved like the stove was turned all the way up and he was afraid of burning the food. He spoke that way too.
“It was fine. Not a whole lot.” Steve didn’t want to have anything seem bigger than whatever upset Jonathan-- and seemed to still be upsetting him now. “How was your day?”
“Fine. Will and Mike are in the other room.” He was checking things off his list. Steve stepped up to Jonathan and stood even with him at the stove. He was making one-pot pasta. It really did smell fantastic. Steve was so hungry, even after his lunch.
“How was… the other things in your day? Develop any good pictures?” Steve covered how stupid he sounded by placing his hand on Jonathan’s lower back.
Jonathan stopped stirring and looked at him. Steve tried to keep cool, tried not to show his motives-- his attempt to calm something he couldn’t believe he’d missed spinning out of control, even if he didn’t know what it was. “Nancy walked into the dark room today-- she’s actually the one who gave me the muffin-- and she exposed the photos to light too early. So no, actually.”
Steve really was a bad boyfriend. Even when he wasn’t one yet-- or at all.
“Okay… how was. Everything else?”
“You don’t have to ask about my day, Steve. It’s okay.” Jonathan sighed and spoke evenly. “I’m just a little tired. Really. We don’t have to do the whole… thing .”
The whole thing where Steve was explicit about how much he really cared about Jonathan and admitted he was sincerely and terrifyingly in love with Jonathan.
“I was asking because I was curious. Not out of obligation.” Steve clarified. His hand slid to rest on Jonathan’s hip. He moved closer, lips aiming to place a commitment-less kiss on his cheek.
“Steve! I said to keep it cool .” Jonathan ducked back, placing a hand on Steve’s chest. “I don’t want Will to see us.”
“Your brother?” Steve was surprised; of all people Jonathan explicitly wanted to hide from Will seemed kind and forgiving-- not that there was anything to forgive, but it was something Steve often checked for. Steve was sure that one of Dustin’s friends would be… like Steve. Or like Jonathan-- maybe. All of them seemed prepared to deal with any of their friends suddenly being different. Far more prepared than Steve ever was.
“Yes. My brother.” Jonathan snapped, banging the spoon against the edge of the pot. “I don’t want him to learn I’m not dating Nancy but instead seeing her ex-boyfriend in the same day.” he whispered.
“Wait, what? He thinks you’re with Nancy?” Steve wasn’t sure where they went wrong. They were trying to obscure the truth, not lead everyone to a different reality. “D-Do you think Mike does too?”
“I don’t know! I didn’t want to ask and seem weird.” Jonathan sighed again. He sounded tense again. “I told Will I’d tell him if I was seeing anyone… And he promised me the same.”
Steve knew not to press the obvious question-- well are you seeing someone, Jonathan? -- but also didn’t want to touch the obvious implication that Will needed to share a secret with Jonathan. Instead, he placed his hands into his pockets and turned to lean against the counter.
“Dinner smells really good, Byers.” There was another name that began with “B” that Steve wasn’t allowed to use, but always wanted to. Byers Byers Byers. Baby baby baby. “Thank you, again, for cooking for me-- for us.”
“You think I’m going to let you starve?” His stirring slowed; the stove cooled down. He nudged Steve’s arm with the spoon. “You coming home late and trying to cook? You mean half-drinking a beer and falling asleep face down on your bed in your uniform, half unbuttoned.”
“You picture that often, Byers?” Steve lifted an eyebrow. “Hm?”
“Don’t flatter yourself.” Jonathan’s lips quirked into a smile again. “But, if you’d like a beer, I think there’s one in the fridge. No one in the house is going to touch it.”
“I can go ask Will if he wants it.”
“Shut up-- do you want it or not?”
“No.” Steve didn’t like drinking when they were together. He’d never really heard the full story about where Mr. Byers went, but he had a father of his own to make those blank spaces fill pretty fast. “But thanks. Don’t want the habit of needing a beer to forget how boring my job is.”
“I thought you liked your job?” Jonathan took a piece of pasta out of the pot and held it out for Steve to test.
He chewed and answered. “I do! It’s nice to have normal hours-- and I’m happy to help have replacements as Flo gets ready to retire but… I don’t know. Sometimes it feels boring .”
“Would you rather be chasing down a four-legged monster without a face?” Jonathan let out a bubble of genuine laughter, playfully glaring at Steve.
“Frankly, yes! At least we’d all have something to do. I feel like I don’t see everyone anymore.”
“Then throw a party. Don’t wish for anything bad to happen.” Jonathan said firmly. “Let the record show my brother is a very strange magnet for all this… weird shit.”
“You’re right, I’m sorry.” Steve said solemnly. He put his hand on Jonathan’s forearm. “I wish we were all safely doing something exciting. It felt nice to be needed, even if no one knew it was us.”
Jonathan put the spoon down on the counter and pivoted to be looking only at Steve. There was something resting just on the tip of his tongue, just under the surface of their conversation. It would’ve been a digression-- Steve could tell by Jonathan’s tense and furrowed brow-- but he would’ve listened.
“Jonathan?” Steve squeezed his arm, lifting his eyebrows. “What is it?”
“I--” He clenched his jaw, trying to swallow his words. “I think--” Steve knew there was no end to Jonathan’s sentence; merely starting it meant there was trust between them. A careful admission through omission. Steve knew Jonathan was looking at his shoes and wouldn’t be seen as he took in the secret flinches of Jonathan’s face. The crinkle by his left eye, the twitch of his mouth, double blinking--
They both jumped apart as the phone started ringing, practically shaking on the wall. Jonathan stepped away from Steve and left everything unsaid. Again.
Jonathan tucked the phone between his ear and shoulder as he turned to lean against the wall.
“Hello? This is--” His face changed sharply, his eyebrows furrowing. “I told you to stop bothering us. You’re lucky she’s not here to pick up the phone-- I don’t care !” Jonathan cleared his throat and looked at Steve in a flash of uncertainty and anxiety. “I have the police here right now and if you don’t stop calling me I will send them to your house-- it’s not a threat if you’re the one bothering us. Stop. Calling.” He slammed the phone down and braced his weight against the wall with his other hand.
“Am I considered ‘the police’ now?” Steve said lightly. It was his way of letting Jonathan know he was listening, but not asking direct questions. “I’m not even allowed to have a badge.”
“It counts.” Jonathan said, letting his arms fall down by his sides. Steve stepped over and kept stirring dinner.
“Who was that?”
“No one. Can you go get the boys in the other room? Dinner’s ready.” Jonathan pushed Steve aside to hunch over the stove again.
“Sure.” Steve nodded, knowing he wasn’t seen. “Hey! You monsters hungry? Jonathan’s got dinner on the table.”
Dinner felt weird.
Will couldn’t help but feel like he and Mike had gotten into a fight. Talking about his dad made anything feel sticky, feel like it was violent or volatile. A second from snapping or tearing off, bouncing around the walls and echoing in Will's body. A small conversation between friends-- actually a little understanding between best friends-- felt like it had been a screaming match, all because it was cut off. There was no apology from Will. He didn't have the chance to tie it all up with an I’m sorry, I’m really sorry, forget I said anything.
His plea sat heavy on his tongue as he talked to Steve-- who had arrived without notice-- and let Mike make him laugh so hard he nearly shot water out his nose. Will let it all happen under the tremor, the ache, of an apology. And maybe, if he was the best brother and friend he should’ve been, no problems or therapy, it would be enough of an apology.
He wasn't hungry and only ate half his serving of pasta, even though it was usually his favorite of Jonathan's recipes. He did apologize for that though, and it felt right to say aloud. Even if it was misdirected and no one heard it.
I'm sorry. I'm sorry I'm so so sorry. Please come back--
Mike wasn’t tired, Will knew, but he still wanted to go to bed right after their horror movie ended. It was clear Mike hadn't been paying attention to the movie; the entire plot was that dreams were a new horror-scape for monsters to get teenagers. It wasn't too scary to Will; it just felt familiar. The villain looked different, more human, but Will knew what it felt like to dream while wide awake. To watch and be unable to do anything but scratch at the surface--
Convincing Will to get ready for bed, Mike said they’d have all day in the morning. He said that maybe he could convince his mom to let him stay over again if they don’t get all their fun in. Will knew Mike's mom probably would, if only because she felt bad for Will. But he would take the pity. A sleepover wasn't the worst thing to get from pity.
Will could still hear Mike fidgeting in his sleeping bag. He was rubbing his feet together like a cricket and twisting his wristwatch. The plastic scratched the sheer material of his sleeping bag rhythmically: back and forth. back and forth. backandforthbackandforth. It was like Mike was counting the ticks of his silent digital watch. Will began to play with his own watch, keeping it on in bed only because he'd noticed Mike hadn't removed it when they were brushing their teeth that night; apparently the watch was too good to part with.
Time though, was something Will wished he could separate himself from. He could hear the seconds scraping by now. Every moment he kept his friend awake and bored because Will was too weak or (rather and) too everything to stay up late again.
Therapy hadn’t even been that bad. Not really. Maybe it could be exhausting but it didn’t count because Will sat in the same spot for an hour. It wasn’t real work. It shouldn’t have counted. Will should’ve been able to hang out with his friend until sunrise, getting in trouble with his mom for being up so late. He should’ve still been a stupid, carefree kid, not a by-gone troubled teenager.
Maybe his dad had seen that from the beginning. Will's dad was always gambling, betting on baseball games he had these incredible "feelings" on. Sometimes he was wrong, but when he was right it was an amazing prediction; having the foresight no one else had. And maybe that was what it was, leaving them when he did. Maybe he saw Will wouldn’t be the second son he wanted after all. Maybe he knew of all the damage that would be done to him, the damage he would cause. Probably saw it from miles-- years-- away. And he left without a single warning to any of it.
What if his father had known? Could've known where he was when he came back into town two years ago? Not gone forever just in the lights. Just out of reach, just through the wall, Dad. What if he had known, been able to see, able to know, but wanted to leave Will Down there being possessed and enveloped and consumed and--
Will felt a chill scurry down his back. The feeling almost had legs. Too many. He felt ice cold, his body going blank-- not numb, but blank -- for a second. He couldn’t feel his fingers, but could still feel every inch of his body, suddenly pulsing and seizing.
"Will?" Mike asked, sitting up. He gripped the end of the bed and pulled his face closer to Will's. He squinted in the darkness, feeling for Will’s hand. Will couldn’t answer, his jaw tense and breath rattling out of him. "Will, what’s wrong?"
After a (thankfully) non-awkward dinner, Steve and Jonathan washed all the dishes and let the boys watch whatever movie they wanted. Steve didn’t pay attention to what tape he put in the VRC. He was too busy thinking about the hands hidden in the warm soapy water in the kitchen sink. Neither Mike nor Will seemed too bothered by the disgusting amount of blood or the scary blade man on the TV. He felt no regret letting them go to bed right after the credits rolled. Jonathan had looked exhausted after putting the last dish away, and dozed off during the climax of the movie-- even slept through the high-pitched screaming.
They waited for the sound of Will’s door closing over before they got into bed.
Jonathan flopped onto his back, a pillow resting between his chest and crossed arms. Steve laid on his side, bracing his weight on his elbow. He poked at Jonathan's furrowed eyebrow lightly.
"What's the problem, Byers?"
"Nothing."
"You are not a really great liar, you do know that right?" That and Steve could still hear Robin's blasé recounting of Jonathan's distress. Yeah. Crying, sniffling, snot-- the whole nine, man.
Jonathan sighed and turned to look at Steve. He hated being called out. "It's about Will."
"What's wrong with Will? He seemed alright at dinner."
"Yeah, but," Another sigh. "Steve, I think my brother’s gay."
Steve's first response was swallowed and he nodded. "Okay. Okay. And, um, what's the issue with that?" He adjusted himself on the bed, hoping there was more subtlety in that.
"I can't talk to him about it. I mean," Jonathan smiled and reached to touch his face. "This is a very different thing than being fourteen and confused."
"Who says he's confused?"
"I don't mean with himself-- the rest of the world is so confusing, Steve. You see the news... I can't talk to him. I didn't grow up like that. And being with you is... Different. We dated girls before. Will... I don't know. I think he knows already."
"You think he's got feelings for--"
"Oh absolutely." Jonathan nodded, closing his eyes. "Oh, I'm so glad it's not just me who sees it."
"Hopefully Wheeler does too."
"Hey, keep your voice down, he's only a few rooms over ."
"Sorry. Sorry. Me and my big mouth " Steve rested his head on Jonathan's shoulder. "Shut me up, maybe."
"Not until my mom gets back." Jonathan said, rolling up onto his side too. "If I catch her when she comes in the door, she won't come into my room to say good night. I can't have you distracting me until then."
"Your mom is on a date. She's an adult and so are you." Steve kissed Jonathan's shoulder. "You are a working man who just finished a long day at work-- I think you can cuddle up with your boyf--" Steve choked on his own stupidity, feeling his face go red and charisma die on impact. "With me."
"I will. Once my mom is back." Jonathan kissed Steve, as if a parting promise. Only to backtrack on his words immediately. He tucked Steve’s hair back behind his ear, his hands trying not to hold his face. “No-- no . Steve, not until my mom gets back.”
“I can keep an ear out--” As Steve spoke, the power in his bedside lamp dimmed. The power hummed quietly before flickering back up. Jonathan tensed and pushed himself up in bed.
“Did you see that?”
“Yeah, it was just the light, Byers. It’s windy out tonight, maybe a tree brushed a powerline.” Steve pushed Jonathan back down to his pillow-- and back into his own skin again. “It’s nothing . What if I turn out the light? Your mom won’t even see us in here.”
“No. No, I have to wait for her.”
“What if she doesn’t come back?”
“What!” Jonathan jerked upright again.
“I meant what if she’s at Hopper’s or something?” Steve shrugged. “She’s an adult.”
“Steve, that’s my mom .” Jonathan hissed, swatting at the hand resting on his shoulder.
“I meant because she drove there on her own. If she had some wine, maybe she stayed somewhere and is being a smart, responsible parent.” Steve soothed. “Something you don’t have to be right now. You’re not Will’s parent and you aren’t your own. Lay down, will you?”
Jonathan was reluctant, but let Steve ease him back down again. He pulled the pillow tighter to his chest and sighed, his crossed arms sinking deeper. Steve laid down beside him, nose gently touching the end of his shoulder. As he breathed, his short exhales tickled Jonathan’s skin and got him giggling. It was Steve’s secret trick; something that always worked because Jonathan didn’t know it was a pattern-- didn’t know he was ticklish.
“Sorry I was weird today.” Jonathan said suddenly. He wasn’t even grinning.
“What?” They didn’t apologize. There was no need. “You’re worried about stuff-- it’s okay.”
“No, I like our dinners. And I was so uptight. I don’t know. I’m sorry.”
“Okay.” Steve didn’t know what to do with the sentiment. “Apology accepted?”
Jonathan sighed again, blowing it out slowly between his pressed lips. “Lonnie called today.”
“L- your dad ? Is that who was on the phone?” Steve wasn’t sure what came over him-- or his body-- as he placed an arm over Jonathan’s waist and pulled them together. There was something unspokenly intimate talking about abusive fathers while being nearly sutured together in bed, but Steve pretended he was just having problems hearing Jonathan correctly.
“Yeah.” Jonathan turned, his nose brushing Steve’s. “Said he wants custody of Will. He doesn’t trust Mom, he said.”
“How is he-- He can’t do that.”
“He’s going to try. I don't know where it came from. He still thinks he can win a case because the news says Will just disappeared into the woods . Like he ran away from us or something.”
“Everyone knows that’s not true.”
“A court might not.” Jonathan sighed, ducking his head down. Steve resisted lifting his chin to hook it over Jonathan’s head, nestling him into his neck. He laid still, listening to his breathing and the gentle creaking of the house--
Jonathan's door was thrown open, both men sitting up quickly, ready to defend themselves and their actions. It was Mike, in his pajamas with his hair sticking out in wild curls. Will stood just behind him in the hallway looking far more awake. Stilted and untousled.
"Mike?"
"Jonathan, quick!"
"What is it?" Jonathan swung his legs around and motioned both boys to come in. "Will?" Mike pushed him into the center of the door frame, although he remained in the hallway, in the light. Will’s hand grabbed at the back of his neck. His face was blank and his eyes were distant.
"Something's wrong." Will said slowly, blinking to focus. "I feel him."
"Feel who?" Jonathan kneeled in front of Will, holding his shoulders. "Feel who, Will?"
"Dad."

The relaxing sounds of nature enveloped him as a whole. His shoulders less tense and eyes closed as he sat on the cooled sand, facing the burning star and calm waters ahead. Seagulls could be heard in the distance as they caught themselves a dinner to eat. The refreshing cool wind hit his body, slightly making him shiver for a second. Waves, created by the sea and wind, kisses the shore repeatedly. For once, he was far away from worries, stress, fears and regrets. Just him, contented with the company of nature.
As he fluttered his eyes open, he was met with a stunning view of the sun meeting the ocean. The ocean reflecting the sun's visuals as well as the sky above it. Even though the reflection was blurry, it's still pleasing to the eye. Just perfectly imperfect.
However in his opinion, it wasn't stunning as it seems. This secret escapade paradise of his doesn't quite appeal to him yet. A missing piece that could be anywhere on this wide world. That thought kind of bothers him every time.
Sighing, he figured that it was time to go back. He slipped onto his slippers and headed out of his escapade paradise with a head hung low. Hopping on an enormous boulder that happened to break the wired fence and fixated there, having easier access to and from the place than climbing over the fence.
With a last glance towards his escapade, he knew he'll be coming back and that next time will be the scenery he's been looking for, hopefully.
Frustrated with the task at hand, Chan ran his fingers through his blonde locks as he leaned back on his chair and head facing upwards toward the ceiling. Taking a brief break from a whole 6 hours straight of writing and staring at the monitor. Followed by him grabbing his coffee and taking a sip, eyes boring on the monitor. He was just half finished with his paperworks at the time of nightfall, which made him more in distress and felt crammed.
His eyes then wandered around his office, landing onto the view of the opposite building of his company in the end. Where he could see the workers of the Marketing Department bidding their goodbyes to one another, closing the lights and exiting the room. Oh, how much he too wanted to leave and rest right at this moment. Although his belief of 'getting things done before going into slumber' is preventing him to do so (even though he already got a lot of things done). With a sigh, he faced back in front of his monitor and papers, determined to get everything done before tomorrow starts.
" Sunbae-nim, aren't you coming with us? We're having dinner at the Chicken & Barbecue restaurant just a block away from here. " Seungmin asked, grabbing his suitcase below his desk. You leaned back on your chair while stretching your cramping arms and a yawn escaping your mouth.
" As much as I want to, Seungmin, I can't, " You started, rubbing your temples to ease your aching head. " Because our new boss literally gave me 5 thick documents to finish before tomorrow morning without any mercy. And that's just bullshit. I don't even think I'm halfway through it! " Seungmin replied with a chuckle to your short rant, an amused expression written on his soft face. You were having another small mental breakdown as you stared at your unfinished pile of work, feeling your soul escape your body.
" I think you're overreacting. "
" Well, what if I am?! "
Laughing, Seungmin leans his side on your cubicle, looking over at your messy desk filled with sticky notes, papers and pens. " I don't think it's that much. You're lucky that your boss isn't here to hear any of your complaints, " He muttered as he took a peek at one of your documents. You scoffed, not my fault that I'm not as good as you.
" Hear what? "
Frantically, you immediately hide yourself behind your cubicle and pretend that you were focusing on your work. On the other hand, Seungmin casually brushed his navy blue coat with his palms and lifted himself off from the cubicle. Making it all seem like nothing happened.
" Oh, it's nothing, Ms. Ka- " Seungmin paused as he met the owner of the voice who wasn't the person they were expecting to be there. " M-Mr. Bang?! " He stuttered, eyes widened at the blonde headed CEO. Seeing in the corner of your eyes, Seungmin bowed ninety degrees at him as a sign of respect. Even with his heated glare on you, you continued your work like no CEO even entered. Thanks to your cute height, for sure you wouldn't be spotted.
" What are you doing here? Working hours are done. "
Seungmin stood straight and scratched the back of his head. Curiosity slowly arose in you as seconds passed - since you've never met a CEO called by your colleague as ' Mr. Bang ' - although as much as possible, you didn't let go out of hand and kept your focus on the documents silently. The least thing you wanted to happen to you right now is get caught by one of the company's CEO. " I was about to head out, Mr. Bang, " Finding an excuse, he pulled up his sleeve to check the time on his wristwatch. " Uhm.. Yeah, I'm late for dinner. Sorry, Mr. Bang, I have to leave right now. Have an great night! "
With a last bow to the CEO, Seungmin dashed his way out of the building, leaving you alone with your work. The blonde head noticed how the room was still lit up despite it being unoccupied, which he thought. Heading to the switches, everything around you darkened. The only source of light you had was the monitor, and Chan caught it in the corner of his eye.
" Is someone still there? " His voice, catching a bit of foreign accent with it, echoed in the hushed area.
Baffled as he approached that light with a few slow strides, you freaked out mentally. Swiftly but silently, you left your chair and hid yourself underneath the desk next to yours. As he neared your cubicle, you held your breath, slowly starting to feel lightheaded. You don't know what are the consequences if you get caught after working hours since you're still kind of new - got hired just 5 months ago. Dumb you overthink random shit first before even going to the thing called 'common sense' and the rules you heard just goes in one ear then out on the other.
The moment Chan was about to reach your cubicle and take a glance to his right, the sound of marimba playing a soft tune echoed in the room. Stopping in his tracks, he felt his phone vibrating in his pocket and grabbed it, swiping to the right to answer the call. You let out a hushed yet shaky sigh of relief, your shoulders less tense than a while ago. In your mind played a chant, thanking whoever was your savior.
Chan narrowed his eyes at the back of your cubicle while his phone is still pressed against his ear, listening to the person on the other line's complaints. " I'm on my way. Don't do anything stupid, " Not too soon you hear heels clacking against the polished marble tiles, the noise fainting as he left the room.
It took you a good couple of seconds to get out of your hiding spot (since you had to catch your breath and calm your heart down from the thrill), slightly shaking your whole body first before heading back to your seat and continuing your pile of work. Mentally groaning at yourself.
Oh. My. Gosh. These. Eyebags.
Is the first thing you thought as you looked at yourself in the mirror. The cause of it appearing badly because you obviously lacked sleep. All due to the time allotted for slumber was consumed by finishing your 5 thick documents that will be passed this morning. You could've cared less if today wasn't a work day, which fortunately for you it was still work day and these damn documents aren't gonna pass themselves to your boss this instant.
Fumbling around in your bag, you found your makeup kit and started fixing yourself. A little bit of touch ups here and there, just a little to look like it's still more natural than a lot to look like a plastic doll barbie.
Once satisfied, you smiled sweetly at yourself just to start your day nicely and exit your household. While walking on your way to the train station, incoherent mumbling leaves your mouth. A train of thoughts clouding you about your worries if you've left something important behind. In all honesty despite of your current good looks, you look stupid or crazy for talking to yourself in public. Well, at least you aren't as worse as someone yelling nonsense.
" I have all my files, identification card, phone, wallet, pocket knife 'cause anything could happen, keys- " you paused as soon as you misplaced your shoes at the edge of the last stair, falling forward. Luckily for you, you caught yourself and regained your balance. Wide eyed, you saw a kid, a giddy smile plastered on his face as he saw your commotion with a lollipop in hand. You felt embarrassed but laughed it off anyway, a light tint of pink decorating your cheeks.
You rushed towards the gates as soon as you realized the time with the card in between your fingers. Three beeps emitted from the machine when the gates opened after you placed the card on the scanner. With a few more strides, you caught up to your train ride as it was about to leave. You sighed in relief and sat down on a vacant bench, head automatically leaning back on the window. Your eyes boring at the ceiling while taking steady breaths after your short marathon on the way.
On the other hand, across you sat Chan. His right leg crossed over the other while scrolling through his phone. He wore a button up shirt, the first two still unbuttoned revealing more of his chest. His navy blue tie hung loose around his neck while his coat is still folded around his arm. His slacks were the same color as his tie and coat and wore black pointed shoes to finish the statement of his overall clothing. Blonde hair locks were scattered around his face but still managed to look stunning and attractive.
You haven't noticed his presence, so did he to you, and the fact that you both don't know each others' appearance even though you go to the same company just adds to the reason for you two's ignorance to one another's existence.
You got yourself to go back to slumber comfortably in your current position although you know when you wake up, you'll be greeted by your neck aching. Hopefully you don't miss your stop while gaining more sleep. The train swaying you lightly from time to time that you found quite relaxing, like a cradle rocking back and forth lightly to put a baby to sleep.
A child was running around the train with a joyful smile, giggling. He only stopped in his tracks when he reached in between you and Chan. His eyes glowed like there were stars decorated around his chocolate brown pupil when he eyed you two. Looking around, he spotted a roll of red thread underneath your bench and grabbed it. He thought it was just right.
With you being the closest, he starts to tie the thread around your pinky finger. You were too tired to even feel his small cold fingers run around your fingers nor the string tighten around it. Once done, he smiled to himself, his dimples appearing on either side of his cheeks and eyes forming into small crescents.
He left your side and skipped over in front of Chan, who was now too deep in thought as he gazed outside the window and his phone tucked in his pocket. Holding the other end of the thread, he wrapped it around Chan's thumb. Chan's body shook in surprise as he felt cold fingers ghosting above his hand and averted his attention to the child. He saw him knotting the red string tightly, strange that he barely even feels the string tightened around his thumb. " What are you doing? " he questioned although the child only responded with a bright smile, followed by a giggle.
The child turned and ran away from him, more giggles leaving his lips. Chan stood up and tried to chase him. But stopped as soon as he saw the child in the distance, dissolving into little particles in thin air and completely vanished in his sight. In disbelief, he rubbed his eyes and looked for the child around his area. Thinking that he was out of his mind, he sighed in defeat. There's no way anyone could do that in reality. It's either I'm insane or living in a fantasy or a chosen one blessed to see ghosts. Maybe, all of the above.
Chan looked down on his thumb, following where the other end lead to. Then, he spotted your sleeping beauty state, the other end attached to your pinky finger. With the sun rising in the horizon, a ray of gold-like light shines through the window, casting a shadow on you. And he thought you looked mesmerizing like that, peaceful and lovely. At least he wasn't tied up with a bitch or a hag.
Your eyes slowly fluttered open as the sun shined upon you. Squinting at its brightness, you raised a hand above your eyes to see more, only finding a red string wrapped around your pinky finger. You examined it, wondering what prank is anyone even planning and why did it have to involve you out of all people. Before anything stupid could happen, you attempted to loose the knot, ignoring the curiosity for a while of where the other end was. Looping and tugging it, even tried to chomp on it with your teeth, but all attempts failed. Well, that's until you gave up, untying it was impossible, unbelievably there's a knot that couldn't be untied. Sounded like marriage when you think about it, but there's the annulment and divorce ruining the picture.
Tearing your gaze at the string, you caught a pair of bewitching dark brown eyes staring back at you. In that particular moment, everything just froze in place. Time has stopped just for the two of you, you thought.
You felt your heart melting, probably from the warmth emitting in your body or from the warmth his eyes give off as you saw little sparks decorating the pupil. Unfamiliar light feathers tickling the insides of your stomach is what you felt other than the heat and that thawing heart of yours. Your mind knew it well that you shouldn't feel this way towards someone who you just met but your body and heart reacted so differently. There's just something about him that made you feel so exposed and vulnerable in his eyes that you couldn't come up with a possible answer to your 'why's.
Both of you didn't notice how seconds turned into minutes, too lost into one another's orbs. That was until the train stopped, causing Chan to break the eye contact and lose his balance. Before his hands made contact on the metal floor, he took a step forward in order to regain his balance which he successfully did. A small chuckle left your lips, eyes turning into crescents as you saw the commotion. He narrowed his eyes at you as the train was back in motion.
Chan fixed his clothes first before asking, " Who are you? ". Grabbing the pole next to him to prevent him from falling again on the next stop.
" Shouldn't I be asking you that as well? " You replied with a gummy smile, which quickly faded when you remembered what's the problem.
" What is this on my finger and why is it connected to yours? What kind of trickery is anyone pulling? Why am I involved in this? " You kept firing questions at him while he stayed there unbothered. Unlike you who did some more attempts to remove the thread, silly you even tried aggressively shaking your hand in hopes of making it a little loose. But no prevail happened once again.
" Just get rid of it. I didn't want this too, you know. " Chan taps his foot impatiently as he eyed your useless attempts.
" I am trying! " You exaggerated. Deciding to bring out the best tool you have for the situation in hand, your hands fumbling in your bag. Once you felt the cool metal on your fingertips, you brought it out and flipped it open.
Chan's eyes widened at the sight of the pocket knife in your palms. " You carry that on a daily basis? Are you insane? "
You rolled your eyes in annoyance. " It's not insane when it's used for self-defense purposes. I'm too nice to be the murderer you're assuming, " You replied, head throbbing as things aren't going well with the charming blonde.
He responded just before the blade and thread were in contact, starting with a scoff. " Yeah sure, nice. Anyone can wear that façade anywhere. "
" You know what, " You started as you withdrew the pocket knife back and glared at him afterwards, pissed off. " You deal with this shit yourself, I'm done with my part and I could care less about this red thread anyway. You look like you don't need any of my help 'cause you look fancier than me and it seems like you're not taking any gratitude towards my kindness. Damn these crazy rich people. " You threw the tool towards his direction and looked away from him, arms crossed. Chan instinctively caught it without getting any cuts despite the fact it's closed, his eyes burning through your figure in fury.
" If I actually got wounded instead from your little stunt, I would've sued you this instant, " He growled, only to be ignored by you.
Irritated by your sudden change of attitude, Chan flipped it open and skillfully ran the blade through the string. Only for it to just fall through like the string never existed, ghost-like perhaps. " It's not cutting, what the hell, " Chan muttered under his breath as he tried a few more times again.
"It's just a string, how could a- " You spoke as you turned your head back to his direction, only to be cutted off as you witnessed the unusual. Mouth a little bit agape in disbelief. The thread didn't fall apart even while the blade was just sitting in between of it on air. Maybe that explains why you could barely even feel the thread wrapped securely around your finger. You could tell that this stunning blonde head was just as puzzled as you were.
" Sir, if you're having any problems that includes this woman, we can sort it out. Just withdraw the knife first please, " a man suddenly blurted out, his voice a little bit shaky. That's when you realized the commotion you both have caused, everyone around you two took steps back away. All had fear in their eyes.
" Wait, you don't see the thread we're trying to cut? " Chan questioned, eyebrows furrowed in confusion. At that, he was more misunderstood.
" There's no thread..? " With that, it got the two of us surprised. Is the crazy one here them, who couldn't see this string, or us, who could?
Chan tried to explain our situation thoroughly but when he was about to speak up, out of the blue, a voice spoke in the speakers. " Please mind the gap, " You immediately grabbed his arm, carried his belongings and dragged him out of the train. Leaving its passengers confused as they eyed us. They might be thinking that you two are idiots.
The doors just shut a second later when you two got out. You felt a bit suffocated for an unknown reason, your hand reaching for your chest where you could feel your heart beating. Panting, you shoved Chan's belongings into his chest. " Are you alright? " He asked as he tried to place a hand on your back, the least thing he could do to comfort you.
But his hand only stopped in mid-air when you took your last deep breath, replying. " Let's just part ways here, " Saying those words felt a bit disheartening at some point, yet you chose to disregard it.
You walked forwards, while Chan stayed in his position, wearing his coat and fixing his tie. Although, something stopped you. As in you couldn't go forwards as much as you force to. Well when you did force yourself, it only tugged Chan towards you. Turning around, he was already eyeing you. " What was that for?! "
Glaring at the thread, you thought out loud, " Is this string telling me, it can only stretch itself approximately at 7 meters?! "

Oblivious!reader as Aomine’s Crush
May I request for an HC or Fic, you can choose, of like…Aomine’s crush is like the MOST OBLIVIOUS person and at least the same year as sakurai. Daiki teases them to be flirty but they think he hates them so they go to basketball practice crying looking for ryo because aomine “hates” them but daiki just butts in and tells them in frustraition? If only you’re okay with it though hahahaha
@thirsthourdemon hi!! sorry it took so long woooo thank you for stopping by this blog and sorry it took so long D:
Oblivious!reader x Aomine Daiki
[Headcanons]
Note: as much as my head is FILLED with the urge to write a fic, my uni classes said “hell no.”
so you can be a bit dense and while Aomine finds it really really cute at first…
endearing and cute… only for the first few weeks he’s tried to make a somewhat attempt to hit on you ever since he saw you smiling at your class president in the hallways
but after that,,,, well,,,,,,,,
you were very close friends with Sakurai, his mild, but responsible personality meshing perfectly well with your slightly airheaded personality
what does that mean? well, you would sit on the benches to watch Sakurai practice while you were either A.) doing your homework and being absolutely oblivious to the curious (or less than decent) stares or B.) eating Sakurai’s extra bentos he would sometimes pack that day because you would sometimes forget your own
this doesn’t bode well for Aomine, especially since he ditches practice 24/7 and every time he tries to look for you after school, he could never find you for some reason
until he showed up to practice that one time to steal an octo-dog from Sakurai’s bento when he saw you talking with the coach, trying to earnestly learn more about the sport
ohohohoho, his smirk grew and he’s having the wildest ideas in trying to get your attention
*proceeds to rip off the entire backboard and glances to your figure to see you wide-eyed*
*also waits outside the gym with a confused Momoi until everyone except you and Sakurai leave*
Aomine also tells Momoi to scram, also subtly glares at Sakurai
both leave but both give each other the look before they both hide behind the bushes to eavesdrop
there was no way in hell Sakurai would leave you alone to Aomine, even if he was someone who wasn’t confrontational
Momoi, on the other hand, even if she was pissed he name-called her, didn’t trust him to be on his own devices, especially with someone as sweet as you
“So you’re the one Wakamatsu has been ranting about,” you said tilting your head up as you took in Aomine’s appearances for the first time
“Huh? Yeah I guess,” he flippantly grumbled, scratching the back of his head as he averted his gaze away
you gasped, bringing Aomine’s (and the eavesdroppers’) attention back to you
“Wha…? Where’s Ryo?”
“…” - everyone right now
as you cluelessly look around your surroundings, Aomine steps forward to clasp your wrist and slightly tug you towards him to get your attention back on him
“Tch, forget about him for a second.” Aomine makes a harsh frown before remembering that he was supposed to make a good impression
your eyes curiously dropped to his hand on your wrist
“Aomine-san… Is there something wrong with my wrist?”
“Huh?? No, obviously not you idi—(y/n)—” he coughs out in an attempt to cover up his mishap but you don’t seem to notice
“Wahhhh, I have to look for Ryo!” you said, your brows furrowing. “He’s probably waiting for me right now! Ah, I’ll see you later, Aomine-san!”
and you dash from Aomine, breaking free from his loose clutch on you
Aomine just stands there dumbly, watching you until you leave his sight before he kicks the dirt in irritation
meanwhile, Sakurai leaves the bushes to chase after you and Momoi huffs as she stomps to him, pushing Aomine from behind
“Ow—what the hell?”
“Mou—I can’t believe it! You can’t just treat everyone like that!”
“Hah? You never nagged me about this before. Besides, don’t you people like that kinda stuff?”
“Ugh, Aho-mine! You lack delicacy! You have to be romantic and sweet if you like the person—!”
“Who says I like (y/n)?”
“It was as clear as day, stupid!”
meanwhile…
Sakurai is gently scolding you for getting yourself into a “possibly scary” situation although you don’t really get it
“What’s scary about Aomine?”
“E-e-eh?? Lots, (f/n)!! Did you not see him beat up Wakamatsu-san and rip off the hoop??”
“Well, I dunno, Ryo…” you started. “He seems out there, but I think he’s a nice guy.”
“That’s what you say to every person you meet.”
“Hmpf! Not everyone,” you pouted
“Just… just be careful, okay?… I worry for you…”
…
for the two weeks, it was a pattern of Aomine waiting for you outside the gym after every practice, while Momoi and Sakurai begrudgingly hiding to eavesdrop, ready to intervene if needed
that said, both are inwardly cringing at Aomine’s attempts at “flirting” while everything just seems to fly over your head as you blink and politely smile
“You’re not half-bad looking, y’know?”
“So who’s the other ‘half-bad’?”
“What?”
“What?”
You would tilt your head innocently at a flustered but frustrated Aomine
if you listen hard enough, you could hear a loud worried sigh and an “Ahomine!” from a distance
or another day:
“So there’s a movie at 5 tomorrow, and I got an extra ticket. Wanna go?”
“Don’t you have Momoi?”
“She has practice.”
“Don’t you have practice, too?”
“….”
or another day:
he decided to take Momoi’s advice in being more “forward” but showing enough romantic gestures to get the point across… but the only thing he could settle on without getting too sappy was the kabedon
“A-Aomine-san! What’s wrong? Can you stand properly? Do you need to go to the—”
“Shut up already, (y/n),” he drawled, before he tried to lean in closer to your face…
but then you slapped your hand to his forehead and leaned even closer to his face to try to feel his temperature
oh, but your lips—too close—too close—help—
“Oh no! You are burning up!”
Aomine was ready to faint right there and then
…
“You need to tell her and be honest, Dai-chan!”
“Shut up, Satsuki. Non’ya business.”
“It is, Aho-mine!” she huffed. “(y/n)-chan is my friend too!”
he groans as he sits up from his napping position at the rooftop before he stretches his limbs and walks to the gym
…
“Aomine-san! You’re coming to practice today?” you turned to the blue-haired ace at the doorway in surprise
“Nope, I’m sleeping.”
“Huh?”
he languidly walks to your side to steal your onigiri
“Wha—?”
“Thanks for the food, shortie.”
“Ah?”
and he gives your head a few firm taps before he leaves the gym before a Momoi unceremoniously bursts into the room, wheezing
“Is Dai-chan here?…”
you shake your head “no” in response, still in a stupor at processing what just happened, and Momoi just dashes back outside to track him down
…
“A-Aomine-san!” your fingers barely grazed the pencil as he held it up way above his own head. “Could you please… give that back?”
“You can get it back if you manage to get it,” he said, with a mischievous smirk on his face
“Wh-why meee?” you whined, as your breath shortens out of exertion
“You’re the only one who could cure my boredom.”
“Aho-mine! Give it back to (y/n)-chan!”
“Tch, fine…”
…
yeah, he’s just been calling you various names, stealing things and taunting you to get it back by running FULL SPEED IN THE HALLWAYS, knowing FULL WELL YOU COULD NEVER CATCH UP
“Dai-chan, can you stop messing with (y/n)-chan? You’re so childish, sheesh!”
“Didn’t you say to be honest? They’re short, right? And I’m just playing with (y/n). You know that.”
Momoi wants to kill him right there and then
“Ugh! I swear, you’re so dumb! We might know you don’t mean these things, but does (y/n)-chan know? Besides, you’re not being honest with your feelings to them at all! Stupid! Stupid, stupid, stupid!”
…
“Ryo,” you sniffled to him one day. “Do you think Aomine hates me?”
“W-well, as much as I stay away from him… If he hated anyone he would make sure they know it…”
“I knew it! Was it something I said?” you gasped. “Maybe I’m the reason why he never went to practice. Maybe my presence annoys him—”
and you’re ready to break down in the middle of the hallways at the possibility of having someone hate you because of your obliviousness to your own insensitivity
“N-no! (f/n)-san, it’s not that!” Sakurai uncharacteristically firmly says. “Why don’t you talk to him to sort it out?… I’ll walk you to him but…”
despite your reluctance, you figured it was the best course of action, and you were determined to at least apologize to him
well, you were until you turned around and walked smack dab into the touou ace
as you rub your nose to ease the pain and look up to the person, ready to apologize, you freeze
uh oh, did he hear the entire thing?
you mad dashed to the opposite direction but he immediately chases after you, leaving a concerned Sakurai in the dust
of course, you were no match for his long legs his agility and you were soon tackled by him when you were both outside the classroom buildings
as he tackled you, he cradled you into his arms as he twisted his body to take the brunt of the fall
“Ah! I’m so sorry, I’ll get off right no—”
he fully locked his lips onto yours
“Shut up, already.” he frowns before continuing, “I never hated you, stupid.”
“You… don’t?”
“Tch,” he clicks his tongue in irritation but he still pulled your cheek affectionately
“O-ow! Why don’t you go… to practice then?”
in response, he sighs and says, “it’s a long story, but I’ll tell you at Maji Burger… how’s that sound?”
“O-oh! I didn’t bring money today!”
“I meant as a date. You, me. Between us. As a romantic thing.”
“R-r-romantic!?”
“Do I have to spell it out?” he sighs loudly. “I like you, shortie.”
“H-hey!”

Day 72
of @the-wip-project’s 100 Days of Writing
Do you have filler scenes in your WIPs? How do you fill them?
I tend to think of all my stories as filler, if we’re going by the ‘slice of life’ or ‘seemingly unimportant moments’ between the Big Events in people’s lives definition of that term. I like writing within the drudgery of everyday life, I guess? Like, cool...you saved the world. But who does the dishes?
The things I’m less excited to write, that actually feel like filler to me, are the transitional ‘summary’ paragraphs to try and contextualize these interactions and to get me from one of these little moments or scenes to the next. The big epic events that allow my characters to eventually get to the issue of who will be doing the dishes...I just really struggle to sit down and write those kinds of things.
---
I got tagged by @blarrghe and @noire-pandora today for WIP Wednesday (thank you both!), and I’ve been feverishly trying to draft a quick one-shot after seeing this brilliant post cross my dash again and being suddenly inspired...to cry a little, I guess?
So here’s some Loghain and Stroud* in the Deep Roads together again, 15 years after Inquisition I guess?, for one final Stroghainoff adventure:
"It's not really you, though, is it?” Loghain mutters, more to himself than to the very life-like apparition of Stroud standing before him, mustache and all.
“Of course not.” Loghain answers his own question and turns away from the hallucination. “My mind has begun to go, it seems...I suppose it won't be long now..."
He continues trudging along, muttering to himself and following Maker-knows-what sense of direction he’s got left down here. He hasn’t decided if he’s trying to avoid the Darkspawn and the inevitable for as long as he can, or rush headlong toward them for a quick and brutal end. But he can’t seem to pinpoint the direction the Archdemon’s song is calling him to, so he supposes it doesn’t matter, anyway.
"Did you hear the one about the Grey Warden who packed up everything and moved to the Deep Roads?" the imaginary Stroud-ghost asks.
Loghain stops.
"He said it was his --"
"Don't," he whispers, shaking his head.
“That got a laugh out of you once.”
“The last thing I need down here is a Spirit -- or...or...whatever you are -- following me around and retelling his worst fucking jokes.”
"It's me, Old Man."
He finally turns back, peering at him again through the darkness. He seems more solid than before, but Loghain still doesn’t dare to reach out and try to touch him.
"My brain could have easily just conjured you up with the same terrible sense of humor that the real you had," he sneers.
"So what difference does it make, then?”
“Well, one of you was real, for starters.”
Stroud chuckles, and it’s perfectly infuriating, just as he remembers it. “A long time ago, I promised you that we'd do this together, didn’t I?"
"And you broke that promise when you decided to play the hero and stay behind in the Fade."
"You knew that I was already hearing my Calling then. I wouldn’t have been able to keep that promise, even if I hadn’t stayed behind." Stroud thoughtfully strokes his mustache. "But while I was there, I met some...spirits, I suppose. Justice. And he introduced me to Devotion...and Patience.”
Loghain watches him, looking for any kind of break in the illusion.
“How long has it taken you to catch up to me, Mac Tir?”
"Fifteen bloody years…" Loghain grumbles.
"Oh."
"Yes."
"And you've been alone this entire time?"
"Of course I have!"
"Loghain…” Stroud reaches for his hands, whispering, “I'm so sorry."
Loghain stares at his hands, being held by a ghost. A ghost whose thumbs rub circles into him the way Stroud always did whenever he had gotten lost in one of his many rants.
"I'd have taken care of you, you know?" Loghain blurts out.
Stroud smiles. "I know."
"I’d have held you through the nightmares. Force-fed you mush if I had to. And talked as much sense as I could into you for as long as you’d let me. And when the time came..."
"I know." He nods, pulling Loghain into the very real-feeling steadfast sturdiness of his embrace.
*This Stroud got left behind in the Fade, but like, IDK...who’s to say he, or at least some part of him, didn’t make it out of there somehow? Not me. I don’t know how any of this works.
The rest of this is just going to be them bickering and lots of bewildered letters from Orlesian Wardens regarding two old men seen fighting Darkspawn together before disappearing into a half-collapsed tunnel.

TMST Chapter 9
You thought I was gone! You thought I forgot about this! ...Well you were a little right. But everything is back on track now which means it's time for more of our boys. Sorry it's been so long. Ao3 link Wordcount: 2657 Ship: Intruality TWs: Swearing, sexual refrences, bottling emotions. To say it was awkward for Patton the next morning, waking up to Remus’ arms around him, would be an understatement. But that awkwardness was not alone, Patton felt trapped in an oven of emotions. Fear, comfort, worry, vulnerability, peace, trust, modesty, relief, all shooting around his body and threatening to knock him out of the bed. He’d never had a one night stand but imagined this might be what it was like. He tried to focus on what to do next. He could try to get up and leave without waking Remus, it wouldn’t solve the situation but it would save him from the awkwardness about to happen, or he could wake up Remus and face it now. Unsurprisingly Patton chose the first option. He carefully picked up Remus’ arm from on top of him, watching his face for any sign of waking up. Patton slowly put Remus’ arm back down on the bed beside him. He let go of the arm and sighed. He wished Remus had woken up first, he was actually brave and probably would face Patton. He stood and ran a hand through his hair. As Patton walked over to the bathroom he heard a loud ringing come from the bed. He quickly turned and locked eyes with Remus as he woke up. Remus began fumbling around for his phone. Patton quickly darted into the bathroom and slammed the door shut. He leant against the door and tried to calm down enough to hear what was happening. Remus eventually found his phone amongst the blankets and slid off the alarm. He saw he had a few hurried messages from Janus.
Janny Fanny at 10:15: “Did Patton get home yet?”
Janny Fanny at 10:44: “I’m pretty sure he isn’t coming home dude.”
Janny Fanny at 11:03: “If you’re fucking Patton can you at least tell me you won’t be home?”
Janny Fanny at 7:56: “Did you really spend the night there?”
Janny Fanny at 8:00: “Are you okay?!”
Janny Fanny at 8:08: “Remus this isn’t funny! Please tell me you’re okay!”
Janny Fanny: at 8:19: “Virgil is worried! Call him please!”
Janny Fanny at 8:24: “Please Remus!! Virgil is freaking out!!”
Remus quickly called Janus who answered immediately. “Remus what the fuck?!” Janus said as soon as he picked up. “Are you okay? Where are you?” Remus could hear the worry in his friend’s voice. It wasn’t unusual for him to not come home but it was for him not to send some kind of message to anyone. He looked over to the door Patton was hiding behind. “Geez, Jan. Calm your tits.” Remus replied calmly. “I got home late and left early to help my folks gather some sheep that fucked off last night.” Remus lied. He wasn’t embarrassed, if anything it felt… right. But it was clear Patton was embarrassed with whatever happened. “I know you’re lying. Just get home from wherever you are so we can finish the paint job at the bakery.” Janus said before hanging up. Remus threw his phone down and rubbed his face. He didn’t want Patton to be upset, the whole point of him staying was so he wouldn’t be. But now he was. Remus stood up and walked over to the door. “Are you okay, Patty Cake?” He asked softly through the door. Patton jumped away in fear. He didn’t respond, he didn’t know how to. “I’m sorry I didn’t leave, when you asked me to stay and I just assumed you meant for the night.” Remus tried to reason. Patton felt bad for reacting how he did. He was just scared. Remus leaned against the door. “Please talk to me.” Patton wanted to, but he didn’t know what to say. Remus waited for another minute before pushing away. “I’m leavin’. I’ll be back in a few with Janus. We’ll just pretend this didn’t happen.” That wasn’t what Patton wanted. He didn’t regret what happened, not at all. He just didn’t know what to do. Patton looked in the mirror and tried to gather the strength to face Remus. He went over and flung open the door, but it was too late. Remus had left already.
About half an hour later Remus’ truck pulled up outside again. Patton watched out the window as Janus and Remus got out and walked towards the bakery. He could only just hear them talking, the words were muffled so he leaned forward to try and hear more. “I didn’t tell them, Virgil did!” Janus defended as he closed the door of the green truck. “Yeah, you just told Virgil I was fucking Patton, who then told my twin.” Remus protested. “Well last I heard you were waiting for him to get home, you didn’t come home and didn’t respond to any messages, and with your reputation it wasn’t that much of a stretch to assume.” Janus argued. “Besides, it’s not like you’re telling us where you actually were.” “It’s none of your fucking business.” Remus hissed back. “And you’re the reason my twin is coming for my neck so why would I tell you?” Remus flung open the door and entered the bakery. Patton couldn’t hear their conversation anymore. This whole situation was wrecking Patton. He felt guilty for worrying everyone and causing issues for Remus, he felt confused about what this all meant for him and Remus. He had just started accepting he had feelings for Remus, but how could he even imagine telling him now? Patton paced anxiously around his house, stuck in his own head. He had to focus on something else. He plucked out three ingredients and set the oven to preheat. Whenever he was stressed he would bake, it was like second nature. Something easy and clear he could focus on. Never anything fancy, just simple little recipes he’d made a thousand times. Just like this. Quick three ingredient scones. He dumped in the flour and butter and began mixing by squeezing them in his hands. He kept doing this until the mixture became almost like breadcrumbs, then he made a small well in the middle and poured in the milk. He twirled a wooden spoon in his hands before stabbing it into the bowl. With fluid flicks of his wrist he folded the contents into a soft and light dough. It needed something. He threw open a cabinet and danced his fingers along the different jars. He let his emotions surge through his hand and take out a few different ingredients. A pinch of cayenne, a dash of oregano and rocket, a generous amount of parmesan. He floured the bench and smacked the dough onto it. He folded the dough in his hands again and again. Pressing, rolling, squeezing, kneading. He took out a glass and began cutting out circles of dough and placed them on a tray before shoving them all into the oven. After a few minutes the smell of herbs filled the apartment and wafted down to the bakery, cutting through the various fumes. It made Remus’ stomach cramp as he painted varnish across a wooden table. Even Janus stopped for a moment when it reached him. “Can you go ask your boyfriend if we can have some?” Janus asked, going back to his painting. Remus scoffed. “Don’t.” He said in an annoyed tone. "You didn’t have dinner last night and you haven’t eaten today.” Janus reminded him. Remus rolled his eyes. Patton hadn’t come down to greet them like usual and Remus wasn’t going up there if he wasn’t wanted. “I’ll be fine.” Remus defended. Janus took off the mask covering his nose and mouth and turned to Remus. He looked over at him, taking in his annoyed face and tired eyes. “It wasn’t a hook-up.” Janus said. “Or if it was, it didn’t go well.” “I already said I didn’t want to talk about it.” Remus interrupted. Janus placed down his spraycan. “Okay. Bottle it up until you push him away and he hates you.” Janus argued. “That sounds like a great plan. I mean it worked well with Roman.” The bell above the door chimed. “What about Roman?” Roman asked as they walked in. Remus shot a poisonous look at Janus. Neither man said anything. Roman gave them a stare that could cut through burnt bread. “Really?” Both men shrugged and returned to their work. Roman walked over to Remus and pulled him up by his ear. “Ow! It was Janus who said it!” Remus shouted. “What happened last night?” Roman asked. Remus’ face fell. “I told you it wasn’t a good idea! If you hurt the poor thing I
swear I’ll throw you off the roof again.” Remus looked around and sighed while slipping off his gloves. He pulled Roman outside so Janus couldn’t hear them.
But Patton could.
“We didn’t hook up, alright?” Patton heard Remus say outside his window. He looked out to see the twins talking. He needed something to focus on while the scones cooked so he listened. Besides, they seemed to be talking about him anyway. “We all know you were here last night.” Roman crossed their arms. Remus ran a hand through his hair. He remembered how embarrassed Patton was earlier. “Look even if we did it’s none of ya business!” Remus snapped. “We’re adults, we can do what we want. If I wanted to, I could go up there right now and make out until we couldn’t breathe!” Patton blushed at the thought. “Look, Remus I jus-” Roman started but was quickly cut off. “You said yourself that it seemed I really liked the guy! You think I’d ruin somethin’ like that with a fling?” Remus pressed. Patton covered his mouth and backed away from the window. He felt like he just heard something he shouldn’t have. The conversation continued without Patton listening. “I’m not a kid anymore! I can make my own damn choices and keep them to my own damn discretion!” Remus huffed. Roman took a moment to process but was largely unshaken by Remus’ outburst. They’d dealt with them for 28 years. “So was that little rant meant to convince me you didn’t sleep together?” Roman asked. Remus groaned in frustration so Roman put a hand on his shoulder. Remus shook it off. “You don’t get it! I don’t need you three hoverin’ over my love life! Have you considered there’s a reason I’m not tellin’ ya?!” Remus flung an arm up towards Patton’s apartment angrily. “I’m not the only one involved!” Roman looked up at the apartment then back down at their twin. His face contorted with anger. Roman sighed. “Alright. We’ll stop bugging you.” Roman finally gave in. Remus was surprised. It wasn’t like them to actually agree with him. “But please, don’t hold it all in. If something not good does happen then please come to one of us.” Roman put their hands on Remus’ arms, his shoulders slacked. He nodded slightly.
Patton pulled the scones out of the oven as his head spun. Remus had feelings for him. He began picking up scones and cutting them in half, hands used to the heat of fresh made goods. He didn’t know how to process the information he’d just learned. He felt… bad. He forced Remus to stay over, keep it a secret, then invaded his privacy. He felt like a terrible person. Only terrible people would do that stuff. And to make it worse he was giving Remus the cold shoulder. After everything Remus was doing for him he was just ignoring him because of his own stupid mistakes. Maybe not mistakes, he did enjoy being with Remus last night. So why did he feel bad about it? Patton placed down the last scone and looked over them. He had someone wanting him to feel better so much that they held him all night. Remus had done it by choice. He shouldn’t feel bad. Patton buttered a few of the scones and put them on a plate. He pushed down his feelings and walked down to the bakery. He put on a smile as he pushed open the back door. “Anyone need a snack?” Patton greeted warmly. He walked over to them. “Remus, I can’t see what he has but eat one.” Janus said without looking away from his painting. Patton walked over to Remus who shyly plucked one of the scones off of the plate. Patton wasn’t used to him being so timid. “Thanks for helping me last night.” Patton said. Everyone turned to him. Remus blushed slightly. “I was a mess and it meant a lot that you stayed.” Remus’ small smile dissolved any and all guilt Patton was feeling. He leant forward and gave Remus a one armed hug while holding the plate in the other. Remus gripped Patton tightly. After everything that happened he was so scared he had lost Patton. The hug lingered a little too long. Roman cleared their throat and the two men separated. “Remus. Eat.” Janus shouted from the ladder. Remus quickly took a bite of the scone. It was fluffy and flavorful. He’d tried to make scones in the past but they never turned out good. This… this was amazing. He looked over to where Roman was also taking a bite. “Patty Cake, you have to give me this recipe!” Remus enthused. Patton blushed. He was usually okay with Remus complimenting his baking, he was making stuff to sell and therefore impress anyway, but this wasn’t something he’d considered good. Just some stress baking. “Uh it’s just a simple scone. Flour butter and milk.” Patton said shyly. Remus swallowed the rest of the scone nearly whole and grabbed another. “I make them nearly every day for the bakery, I can show you next time I make them. You’ll probably love kneading the dough.” Patton walked across the room to offer a scone to Janus. Remus watched. “Yeah.” He mumbled. “Or maybe I’ll just have to come in every day and buy out your whole stock.” Patton giggled and Remus couldn’t help but stare. From Patton’s slightly pink cheeks to the little dimple on his chin. Had he always been so beautiful? He felt like running up and kissing Patton right then and there but he held himself back. Something had changed. Maybe it was seeing Patton so vulnerable, or maybe the way his heart raced as Patton wrapped around him in that bed or even the threat of losing him. His feelings were getting louder, his fantasies were getting stronger, he struggled to hold himself together. It felt like a sugar rush as he stood up and grabbed Patton’s hand. “Patton…” Remus said aimlessly but with a sense of urgency. Patton was dizzy just from Remus touching his hand. He looked up at the taller man. His eyes focused on Remus’ jaw, he couldn’t help but think of how it would feel to have that stubble brush against his face. Roman and Janus both froze and watched. Remus wasn’t sure what to say. He just wanted to stare at Patton’s face forever. He looked slightly behind Patton and remembered that Janus and Roman were both still in the room. “Uh we… Valentine’s Day… us.” Remus eventually managed. Patton lit up. “Oh right I didn’t tell you what time to be here for the class.” Patton interpreted as he pulled away from Remus to get a piece of paper. Remus could barely
breathe, Patton was clueless to the state he was in. And the fact Remus was trying to ask him on a date. “It starts at five thirty so I need you here at five to help set up. Is that okay?” Remus glanced at Roman who was enjoying the whole scene with a smug smile. “Yeah. Perfect.” Remus sighed as he sat back down next to his twin. Roman raised an eyebrow at him. “Don’t.”

AO3 Chapter
Lime/Smut warning
*Lime, but the next chapter will probably be smut ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)*
Infinite things I could hate about you
The way you walk
The way you talk
The way you capture my mind
Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock, tick...
You counted the soft noises of the clock, knowing full well that your alarm clock was bound to go off at any moment now. You could have gotten up to start your day early, but you, quite frankly, lack the motivation to do so. Anyways, it was your day off. Being productive is highly overrated... You mentally uttered. Why get out of bed when you could cuddle with your plush lavender body-sized pillow all morning? You groaned, your actions making your further realize how friggen lonely you felt within. If only the pillow could have been a person...
You glared daggers at the rose gold engagement ring upon your finger. Technically, you really weren't lonely. Hell, there was a part of you that would have preferred to be alone again. Why him?! Annoyed thoughts swarmed your mind, keeping you from attaining proper relaxation. Of all people...Why him? You pulled your pillow closer to your chest, burying your face into the cool silken cover and squeezing it tightly. Why, why, why? Your mind paced. It wasn't that you were thinking about him, Hatake Kakashi, so much. It was how you thought about him that filled you up with despair.
New feelings...shining in a new light.
What is wrong with me?!
Your eyes traveled to your stomach, your diary still opened up to the page you were writing last night. The whole diary idea was Kurenai's, back when you were made jonin, around the age of 14. She knew you weren't the best with opening up to people. So to let out your pains, she had recommended writing about them. And in honesty, you were glad that you had decided to take her advice. Writing did make you feel better. Ranting out all of your troubles without any worries of being judged. As of these days, most of your entries were about Kakashi or how you wanted to relieve yourself. It's almost concerned you that you wrote about him so damn much. Just shove him aside!
"Urg!" Your groaned, gathering the willpower to get up from your blanket cocoon and take a nice and warm shower, "Sulking won't do any good..." With a sigh, you entered your kitchen, telling yourself that you'd shower after grabbing something to replenish your hunger. It was glaringly obvious that cooking wasn't your forte. In fact, you were absolutely horrendous at it. Honestly, you wouldn't be surprised if you somehow managed to burn water while trying to boil it. You, the woman dubbed Ibara-hime, the Thorn Princess, could not cook if your life depended on it.
After contemplating what you could make without burning your kitchen down, you simply made yourself a cup of your favorite herbal tea to energize your body. It wasn't much, but it helped wake you up.
Ding dong, the bell to your apartment rang. "Gimme a sec!" You called out the person, throwing on your flak jacket just for formalities. "Oh..." Your face fell, yet your stomach fluttered, "It's you–"
"Yeah, it's me," one Hatake Kakashi mocked the tone you had greeted him with, running his fingers through his silvery hair. You didn't want to think much of it, but his hair just looked so soft...
"What do ya want, Hatake?" You put your hands on your hips and pouted.
Kakashi groaned as he made himself welcome inside your quaint home, "I'm bored," He simply told you, plopping himself right in the middle of your couch. What a dick, you muttered, having to sit on a chair instead of the sofa. "Wahh..?" You whispered as Kakashi's eyes took in ever single bit of you. Your skin started to burn, although his gaze wasn't exactly giving off a positive vibe. "Stop eyeing me like that, Hatake." You mustered up the courage to spit out.
"Oi, it's not my fault," Kakashi sassed, "Take a look at what you're wearing, yariman." Slut, his deep and rich voice had called you.
Anger stirred up inside of you, along with embarrassment, causing your skin to feel as if it was on fire. You felt yourself get flustered as you looked down at your short skirt, which had rid up your legs, and lacy dark green bra that had been reveled by your unzipped vest. "O-oh!" You breathed, your hand going to zip up your flak jacket, yet was slapped away before you could. "What the hell, Hatake?" You flashed him a bewildered look.
Kakashi chuckled smugly, the smirk under his mask apparent, "Don't... I kinda like you dressed like this." He stated matter-of-factly.
"But you j-just," You stuttered out, "called me a..." you trailed off, averting you eyes. Urg, the audacity of this pervert, your inner self spoke. "Perverted idiot."
"Call me what you want," Kakashi grabbed your hand, "I'm your perverted idiot, forever." He laughed softly. Woah, he never acts like this...
"Did somebody drug you?" you sweat-dropped, unintentionally blurted out your thoughts, "You normally don't act like this."
Kakashi sent you a wary look, but you could tell he felt slightly hurt by your remark, "No..." he replied cautiously, "I just thought...it would be good to loosen up."
Your expression softened ever so slightly, "Oh..." the two of you sat in pin drop silence.
"You know," Kakashi ventured, "dark green is my favorite color."
"Hatake!" You yelped, instinctively covering your chest, "I'm going to take a shower!" You turned you back to your dreaded fiancé, stomping out of the room to go bathe.
"I might as well join you then," Kakashi shrugged, causing you to stop dead in your tracks.
"I'm sorry what?!" you exclaimed
"I haven't showered yet today."
"Urg..!" He's drugged, I'm sure of it... you thought, finally giving in to Kakashi. "Kitanai yarō!"
"Well," Kakashi tapped his foot, carefully placing his flak jacket upon the silken sheets of your bed, "aren't you going to strip down?" He asked as he started to remove the cloth bindings from his thigh and ankles.
"Y-yeah..." you flushed softly, "J-just gimme a second." You dashed off, tossing my clothes into your basket of dirty laundry and grabbing a towel to wrap around your bare body, "Okay..." you mumbled, peaking your head out from the bathroom. The tension in the room was heavy and hot, almost uncomfortable. It was...something you had never felt. Hence, you couldn't put your finger on a way properly to describe the situation. Yet heat rushed to your core, even the tiniest smidge of arousal turning on your mind. You felt like your every movement was being recorded in Kakashi's mind. His gaze digging into your soul like a kunai in delicate flesh. Like his– No, no, no, no! No pervy thoughts, (y/n)! Stay classy, you ordered your mind, preventing it from trailing off. We have a dignity, remember?
You hesitantly got into the shower, testing the waters for the proper temperature. "Ahhh," you moaned ever so slightly, the raining down of the water slipping down your body and rejuvenating your sores from the previous night's round of nightmares. "Oi..." Kakashi started to speak as he entered the shower from behind you, ending up grunting incoherently. You shook your head, sighing in disapproval whilst rubbing from body wash into your soft (s/t) skin. You felt a pair of hands brush past your hair, reaching for the hair conditioner, "Rose and sandalwood, eh? No wonder you smell like a garden and incense shop." Kakashi breathed down your neck.
You tried your best not to look back at him, your heart racing for reasons you tried to reject. Nope! We can't be falling for him! You let out a slight gasp as Kakashi's hands found their way to your hips, tracing the gracefully toned muscles of your stomach. "Kakashi...what are you doing?" You whispered, just loud enough to be heard over the running water.
"I read your diary," you could practically heard the smirk on Kakashi's face, "I think I can help you with your needs..." Kakashi licked the helix of your ear. A shudder went down your spine, a foreign though crossing your mind. Maybe, just maybe, we could make this work... your mind ventured. "Kami, I've been having some problems myself, big problems..." Kakashi told you, his voice velvety coffee as he nipped at your neck. His hardening length pressing against your round ass. You could feel your walls start to clench; you were surprised that your body was reacting to Kakashi's touch like this.
No disturbance could get in the way of this exhilarating moment, right?
"(Y/N)! RAIDŌ ASKED ME OUT! CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!" The voice of Mitarashi Anko screeched, she wandered into your bathroom, "YESS!"
"Anko..." You cringed, clenching your fists, "W-wrong t-time..." You moaned as Kakashi's finger teased your clit.
"What?" Anko called out, "I can't hear you over the water. Could ya speak up."
Kakashi pumped faster, "You heard her, louder." His intentions directing towards your moans, blessed music to his ears.
You sucked your breath, "N-never m-mind, Anko!" You managed to force out, trying your absolute hardest to not moan.
"Wait...Is that..." Anko's voice trailed off, "Kakashi's mask, and his..."
"A-anko! Pl-pleas j-just..." you bit your tongue, "go. Ju-just tell me l-later!" You begged her, turning to look at Kakashi with pleading eyes. Not now, Kakashi, you tried to convey with your widened (e/c) eyes.
"OH HELL NO! SORRY!" Anko cried out, causing Kakashi to pull his fingers out of you with a let down sigh. The smoke of Anko's hasty teleportation jutsu lingering for a few moments.
The mood had officially been broken. Thanks a lot, Anko, you mentally swore. But holy hell, you were about to get laid. Shamefully, you looked at the floor as Kakashi rinsed our your hair. "I–" you tried to speak, yet your voice faltered as you took a moment to observe Kakashi's face.
"Are you still in for it?" Kakashi raised his eyebrow; his left eye lidded.
"Oh! Uh..." your heart suddenly fluttered, "Y-yeah." You told him shyly.
Kakashi flashed you a smirk, "How about we just dry off, then..." He winked at you.
Yep, I'm convinced he's drugged... There's no other explanation...

Don’t Go Running Off Into Danger, Even If I Do pt 2
So, I have no clue what a publishing schedule is. So here, have more of this dumb fic at 11 pm. FUCK SLEEP! SLEEP IS FOR THE WEAK!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 2
Danny and Jazz managed to finish just in time to put everything away before their parents got home. He’d actually managed to have a ghost free night. But the peace wasn’t going to last. And this wasn’t about ghosts. He got slammed into his locker. “Hey look, it’s Fenturd. What’s with the dumb picture of Phantom? You’ll never be on his level,” Dash said and laughter broke out. Danny groaned. At least they didn’t know he was trans. He’d be beaten twice as much if they knew. The locker door closed and locked. “Seriously Dash? I have to get to class!” He yelled through the metal. “Whatever Fentina. No one cares! Oh hey, it’s fresh meat!” Dash went away from Danny’s locker. Danny had found out a way to make it so he could open his locker from the inside without it being outerwardly compromised. He jumped out. It was those kids from last night. “Leave them alone Dash. They haven’t even been here for a day yet. The rules are that newbies get a probation period,” Danny crossed his arms. “I don’t know Fentoenail. Would you like to take their beating?” Dash mocked him. Danny sighed. He’d have to do this. “Any day,”
Danny regretted everything. Dash had hit him twice as hard as normal and his locker trick wasn’t working. Everything hurt. He was going to miss Lancer’s class. At least his ghost sense wasn’t going off or something. Lancer wouldn’t miss him. Suddenly, his locker opened and he tumbled out. He yelped. “Are you okay?” The girl twin said. “No worse than what I’m used to,” Danny brushed himself off. “You didn’t have to do that,” The boy twin told Danny. “Yeah, I kinda did. The probation period is sacred. Dash knows that,” “Probation period?” The boy said. “A rule we made up last year. If Dash really wants to break it, I take the beating instead. Fenton gets to take the beating so the new kids don’t have to,” “That’s not fair. You should report him,” “Nah, he threw like four perfect throws last night and is exempt from punishment,” “Football?” The boy gave Danny a knowing look. “Danielle- I mean Daniel Fenton to the main office,” The loud speaker said. “Oh come on! At least it was probably just a misread,” Danny was fuming. The beating plus being deadnamed was getting on his nerves. “We have to head there too,” The girl said. Danny shrugged and let them follow him.
Lancer called them all in at once. “Sup Lancer. Can I help you?” Danny leaned against the wall. “Mr Fenton. You and I both know that you need to show me more respect. W-what happened to you?” Lancer looked up from his papers. “Just a certain football star. Nothing I can’t handle. He broke the probation period,” “That’s a rule between students. I have no need to enforce it,” Lancer sighed. “I have no clue why you of all people were chosen for this, but you are too be Mr and Ms Pines guide around the school,” “Jazz not good enough for you? Had to pick the ‘slacker’ Fenton?” “Daniel, mind your tone. Jazz is our top student,” “We all know I’m destined to fail in life. Can I get their timetables?” “Yes of course. Listen Danny, both you and I know you’re capable of better grades. I don’t understand why you don’t try,” Danny wasn’t in the mood for Lancer’s pep talks. “I’ve got more important things to worry about,” Danny grabbed the papers and stalked off with the Pines Twins on his heels. “Why didn’t he do anything about Dash?” the boy asked. “He has no reason to. Not like I’m about to ask,” Danny handed them their timetables. He’d seen that the girl was named Mabel and the boy Mason. “We’ll start with your classes Mason,” “I prefer Dipper,” “I’m not calling you by a dumb nickname. Let’s go,” Danny growled.
Just as he was about to lead Mason to his first class, a royal pain in his ass showed up. “Daniel! I require your assistance, little badger,” “It’s bound to be another plan to get in my mom’s pants. Go away,” “Now, don’t be like that. I’m the mayor after all. You should be honored,” “Plasmius, shut your goddamn mouth. I. Don’t. Give. A. Fuck,” Danny said so that only Vlad could hear. “Well, something’s got you in a tizzy. I’ll ask later. I should tell you though, it’s about Danielle,” “What did you do to Dani?” Fury. Wait, he had to get the kids to class. “Nothing. It wasn’t me. You should ask your ghost hunter girlfriend,” Vlad grinned. Fucking Valerie. “Come on kids. You’ve got to get to class,” Danny ignored Plasmius. Valerie was going to die.
At lunch, he purposefully turned into Phantom and waited for Valerie on top of the school. She took no time at all. “What. Did. You. Do. To. Dani,” He glared at her. “I didn’t do anything to her! You’re going down ghost!” “Am I really?” Danny was pissed. She wasn’t getting any mercy today. He teleported behind her. “What the... HOW?” “Where is she?!” He growled. “What do you care? She’s always off on her own,” “Does it look like I care Valerie?!” “How did you know?!” “I know more than you seem to think. Tell me where Dani is. NOW!” He froze her feet. She looked terrified. “What’s wrong with you!? Why do you care so much about her? Ghosts don’t have feelings,” Danny lost it at that point. The laughter was dark. Hollow. Horrible. Val’s terror was visible. “Don’t have feelings? DON’T HAVE FEELINGS? FUCK YOU! I’M SO TIRED OF ALL THIS!” “Phantom, calm down,” Val was terrified. Danny wasn’t done. The rings were threatening to come down and expose him to her. “So you admit this is real? Would you like to know how it feels to die Val? How it feels to live on the line between life and death? Wait, I can’t do that! You don’t have a deactivated portal in your basement that I can make you turn on while your inside. I don’t have a stupid jumpsuit with your dad’s face on it so I can take off the that sticker. You don’t have parents that threaten to rip you apart molecule by molecule for just exsisting! You don’t have to see a future where you become evil because you cheated on one test and your family all died! Can you even begin to comprehend what I go through? Ever been cloned? And forced to do something incredibly painful so that one clone can get fixed and watch another get lied too? And that’s just the brunt of it Valerie. Keep telling me how I don’t feel. How I’m nothing!” Danny screamed at ice engulfed their feet. Val’s eyes went wide. “D-Danny?” She said quietly. “Congratulations! You aren’t as niave as the rest of Amity Park! How does it feel?” He’d snapped. “Calm down! I’ll tell you where Dani is!” She shrieked. That hollow laugh came back. But instead of an angry rant afterwards, he just sunk to his knees and screamed. It wasn’t a wail. It was a scream of pain. Of being done with the world. “I can’t do this anymore,” He sobbed and the rings went down. All that was left now was a beaten, broken Danny Fenton. “You should change back. I’ll take you to Dani,” Danny nodded and followed her. “Sorry I broke down. I’m just sick of people telling me that I can’t feel. That all ghosts can’t feel. You don’t even bother talking to us, ya know?” “Ghosts lie,” “And so do people! I’ve talked to the ghosts. Listened to them. Heard their stories. I protect people, but I protect them too!” “How do you know those aren’t just acts?” “Cause they make sense. I’d have the same response if it was me. If my parents burned down the place I was in because I got caught being gay,” “I’m confused,” “Ember. I told her I wouldn’t tell anyone. But you need to know that they all have reasons for being the way they are. Skulker’s family was hunted, so now he hunts to prove his strength,” “Maybe we should talk to you more,” “Maybe you should. No one asks to die,” “But your parents say that ghosts don’t remember their lives. They’re the leading experts,” “That’s like putting a ten year old in a room of babies. They’re the expert by default in that situation, but an adult would be the expert the moment they walked in,” “Why don’t we know about that,” “Dying is traumatizing. Even half dying is traumatizing. It’s taboo to mention it unless you’re told. No one explains it until they’re ready. And talking about a life before that is almost wrong,” “How did you learn?” “Skulker told me during the Christmas Truce. Ember told me one day when she just wanted to be left alone, but I did too. I guess things end up working out in weird ways,” “The Christmas Truce?” “On Christmas Eve and Christmas, ghosts have a truce. No one is allowed to fight anyone that day. The Ghost Writer broke the truce and Walker got to haul him off in just means,” “We really know nothing about ghosts, do we?” “No, you don’t. They even have a party. I got invited last year. Skulker let me make the star! It took me weeks to get it right,” Danny smiled at the memory. He’d made a scale model of a blue giant that went through it’s life stages. “So there’s a whole society?” “A government. Systems. Main rules. Taboos. Just cause we’re ghosts, doesn’t mean we don’t have a system,” “I’m sorry,” “What?” Danny nearly froze. “I’m sorry that I made so many assumptions. I never should’ve chased you or any ghost like that,” “Keep them out of Amity Park and send them back to the Zone. Most ghosts forget that living is dangerous, so they just rampage. I keep trying to talk sense into them, but they’re pretty stubborn,” “What about the dog?” “Dog? You mean Cujo? I was trying to stop him from trashing Axiom. He was trying to get a toy. I’m sorry that recked your life Val,” “My life? Wrecked? When compared to you, my life is a dream. It’s not like I died,” “I guess you’ve got a point,”

Thanks for reading. I just like fics where Val finds out, and this one seemed like an okay place to stick it. Dani is fine. I’ll fill you in on that next chapter, but I should get some sleep.

2020 CREATOR WRAP + A FOLLOW FOREVER
Well friends, I think its really important to spread love and share gratitude so that’s what I’m doing today. I’ve already done the one where you talk about your favourite original posts but I wanted to talk about some incredible creators that I adore. Some of these people I am blessed to call friends and others I look up to or their work makes me smile whenever it shows up on my dash. Anyway, here goes...
@sarawatism Nen... I cannot thank you enough for being my friend. Even though we don’t get to talk as much as we used to, I appreciate you to the end of the world and back. You have helped me craft the world of ‘Nuisance and the Handsome’ Prince and your writing is so soulful and when I grow up, I just want to be more like you (Yes - I know we’re the same age). Thank you for helping me to fall back in love with writing and encouraging me to continue on with that monster of a story.
@partlyalive Camille. My soul sister. I know you’re not actually on here a ton so I hope you see this but thank you for all the support. You are one of the loveliest human being I have ever had the honour of getting to know and I am so lucky to get to call you a friend. Love you!
The @giftedgays. Oh boy. Friends. Thank you for being there for me. I know I’m a lot sometimes but I appreciate you all so much. When the Gifted Graduation was airing, it felt like every Sunday was Christmas morning.
@wjmild Kylie. You are such an intelligent and loving human being. I love hearing about your research or even just when you rant about anything in particular (mostly Lee and Arm). I love our weekly MarkKit watchthroughs with Violet. Way too much fun. Your gifs are gorgeous and so are you. If I didn’t have Dave and you didn’t have Violet, you know how things would go.
@tawanv Violet. Plant Queen. Dancer Extraordinaire. Fellow musical theatre enthusiast. I am so glad that we’ve been able to connect over the last little bit because we have so much in common! Our ‘Last five years’ watch was so much fun and I just love how much of a kind human being you are. You are beautiful both inside and out and I am happy to flirt with you until it upsets Kylie too much. Haha.
@petekaos Rahul. You are such a wordsmith. I am so thankful that we have been able to become friends as I look up to you so much. You seem to feel so deeply and you are just so kind and supportive to everyone. Thanks for being my friend.
@pangwave Dawn. You are so sweet and I love how strong and opinionated you are. I remember back in the day I would always look forward to you and Alexa’s thoughts about pangwave. You are a lovely human being and you deserve to be happy.
@doctorbahnjit Alexxxxa. The way you write is so natural. You have such a way with words. Your pang wave fics were the first ones I ever read and it totally sold me on the ship. You are so bubbly and full of life and it always remind me to stay positive and laugh at life, even when it feels hard.
@tanwirapong Roa. Roa. Roa. You are probably one of the most supportive and lovely human beings I’ve ever met. You lift people up and are such a good listener. Your gifs are beautiful and the colouring is just *chefs kiss*.
@class2clown Angel. You are such a sweetheart and you are so beyond talented. Whether its your gifs, your writing or you drawing. How can one person be so talented? Thanks again for your amazing fic from the gift exchange. I will treasure it forever.

@gunatps Veeee! How I miss you. I remember the first time you messaged me about Pangwave and the Gifted theories. It was so much fun and you were the first person I really got to ramble about the Gifted with. You are such a fun and lovely human and I am so glad I’ve been able to get to know you.
@lee-thanat (Ke), @pvrrish (Eleni) and @vihokratanas (Mel), you are all lovely human beings as well and I would love to get to know even better! Thanks for making the Groupchat such a fun place to be!
Some more non GC friends:
@teh-ohaew Tay!! I am so glad that we’re able to pick up wherever we’ve left off, no matter how long it has been since we last talked. Thanks for ranting with me about shows and pairings. You are so lovely and I adore any time that we get to connect.

@kindaanartblog My favourite clown. I am still so in awe of your talent and I am always here for you to gush to or complain to or whatever! I still can’t believe you really took my Bright/Sarawat vampire prompt and made such a masterpiece.
Taking a page out of Kylie’s book, here is a list of people that fill up my dash with loveliness. I am horrible at communication and maintaining relationships so whether I have messaged you, liked your posts or just love to see you show up on the timeline, know that you make me smile.

I am so lucky to have a small corner of this community to help me through one of the hardest years. You are all so incredible and I love you all. Thanks again.

SWAN SONG || The Walking Dead AU || CHAPTER ONE.
You have to trust that every friendship has no end, that a communion of saints exists among all those, living and dead, who have truly loved God and one another.
You know from experience how real this is. Those you have loved deeply and who have died live on in you, not just as memories but as real presences.’
HENRI NOUWEN
The Walking Dead.
Season 1-?
FEM OC! and ?
Enjoy :) and here is the link to the PROLOGUE!
College. Something I never went to. Sure the thought was there. The ideas to get my diploma and possibly becoming a doctor sounded like a great idea. Until I hit senior year of high school. That was when I realised that maybe I'm not meant for school. Sitting in a classroom wasn't my ideal cup of tea, but I stuck it through high school because I was determined to not become a high school drop out.
When I was in high school it was as though everybody had already figured out what they were going to when they took their first steps into the big, bad world. I was never like that. I left high school and I felt lost. I had no clue what I wanted to do. I convinced myself that I was a disappointment to my family because everybody instantly knew what career path they wanted to pursue and I didn't.
I felt that way until I joined the police academy, a year after I left high school. I was in a real slump, applying to anything and everything, I wasn't getting anywhere until Ally suggested the police force. I instantly declined, not believing that I had any chance of making it. I wasn't the most physically active, any chance I got to skip gym class I grabbed with two hands, but the Police Academy was tempting. I wanted to challenge myself and also prove to all the people who thought I couldn't do it wrong.
And I'm glad I did. Joining the P.D was by far the best decision I made in my life. I found myself as a person. I went from being this shy, delicate flower to an independent and determined individual.
Just because I didn't go to college doesn't mean I didn't experience what's it's like to be a typical college student. I attend my fair share of parties, not that I enjoyed them but I still went to please Corey who didn't want to go alone because apparently, that's embarrassing. Aside from the parties, I don't understand why people stick it through college, sure a degree is a good excuse but honestly is any college student happy? Judging by the faces passing by my car the answers no.
My mind is still on autopilot from what had happened not even a half-hour ago. The scene still vivid in my mind, like a record, stuck on repeat, it won't leave me alone. Maybe if I hadn't rushed her out the door then she would still be here, at home with her husband, happy. Her husband. I've ruined a family-
My thoughts being abruptly stopped by the sound of knuckles furiously knocking on the only rolled up window. Moving my drooping eyes to the source only to be met by the slightly annoyed face of my sister Cora. Leaning over to push down the lock, I'm smacked in the face with the humid Atlanta heat.
"About time, I've been knocking for five minutes," she exclaims holding the door open, entering the car. Only humming in response, repositioning myself in the driver seat, staring deadly out the window, "Wow, what's up?" She asked instantly knowing something's off.
"What? Why would anything be up?" Shaking my head, trying to focus on now and not the past, "Oh I don't know maybe you burning a hole into my school with your eyes or the fact that you haven't acknowledged Maggie in the back seat." She states with that smart tone that I love oh so much.
Swirling round in my seat, I met with the contagious smile of Maggie Greene. She a delightful one. A pure soul who could honestly do no wrong, and yet somehow she's best friends with Cora. The pair are polar opposites, like two peas from completely different pods but it somehow makes sense. Cora is like a hyperactive puppy whereas Maggie is a house cat. Maggie keeps Cora grounded. Without Maggie, I don't even want to know where Cora would be.
When Cora first started college she got in with the wrong crowd. She started to miss important family events; like our weekly game of family-friendly monopoly. Cora wasn't Cora anymore, she was someone new, she was trying hard to become something she wasn't. That's until she met Maggie. Apparently, Maggie went through something similar, I don't know all the details, that's a secret between them. All I know is that they met in the student car park at night completely shitfaced with no way to get home. It all came from that singular moment of stupidity, and I'm glad it did because I've already 'lost' one sister, I don't need to lose another.
"Hi Maggie, sorry just had a weird day at work," I half lied, staring up the car again driving out of the almost desert car park, "The farm?" I asked, knowing where to drop her off having done it a couple of times.
"Don't worry about it Macy, we all have our days, and yes please if you don't mind," her southern accent radiating through the car, a genuine smile covering her face meeting at her eyes. Nodding my head, my eyes training back on the road but my mind and eyes can't help but wonder. It was only a few miles back that I saw those things from the news, they could be lurking around here too.
"You will not believe what Ashton said to me today," Cora said, kicking her feet up on the dash of my car, her hand sitting comfortably behind her head. "Oh please do tell," taking one hand off the wheel to push her dirty Dc. Martens on my beloved car.
Scoffing as her feet slap against the floor of my car, y'know where a normal passenger's feet are supposed to go, "He said, 'i think we should see different people', and I was like 'why', and he said, get a load of this, 'I just don't think it's working out'. Yeah no shit it's not working out, he never calls me, never texts me, and that's the first time he has ever spoken to me in school," leaning towards the cool air drifting through the window as she rants about her love life.
"Ashton a grade-A douche, I pretty sure we've had this conversation every time I pick you up," I state as the boredom begin to consume me at the ritual of Cora's love life discussion coming up once again. Looking in the rearview mirror I see Maggie nodding her head in agreement, "I agree, out of all the guys in our school you choose Ashton," she gags making a yuck sound, her face scrunching up at the thought of her best friends boyfriend.
"It's kind of your fault y'know," I laughed as she sided eyed me, "you met a guy called Ashton and expected him to what? sweep you off your feet?"
"She's got a point," Maggie pointed out hiding her laughter better than me, "No she doesn't!" Exclaimed Cora as she turns around to fully face Maggie in the back middle seat, "what about your love life huh, oh yeah it doesn't exist," she sassed hands crossed over her chest, a smirk on her face as though proud of her very mediocre remark.
Shaking my head at my sister's antics, "Maggie will meet a guy when she's ready too. Just because she not actively looking doesn't mean it will never happen. And I bet when she does meet someone, he'll be a million times better than Ashton or any of those other guys you've been with."
"Thank you, Macy," I hear her quietly responded, shyness overtaking her voice at my comment. Not being able to hide my smile at the innocent girl behind me and the slightly ticked off girl beside me, "um hello! You're supposed to be on my side-," Cora's voice shuts off to a silent whisper. Confused at her sudden change of tone, I glance her way. Her eyes trained directly out the front window, never blinking.
Trying to find what she was looking for wasn't hard. It's them. Only a few, 2 male and 1 woman, a couple of meters away from my travelling car. These are different, they're nothing like the ones I encountered earlier. The ones from before were coming towards me at an agonising walking pace, these ones however are running, running extremely fast.
Cora's heavy breath begins to fill the car, as Maggie mutters incoherent words. I however am static, this wasn't just a one time encounter. In the space of not even an hour, I've seen a dozen of these people. The government has issued official reports telling us, the public, that's there is absolutely nothing to worry about and they have this all under control. At first, I believed that, but now with these thing sprinting towards my car, I'm beginning to beg to differ.
"Um, Macy drive. Macy, please drive!" A panicked Cora heaves in my ear. Judging from my previous encounter, fight or flight is not an option right now. Not until I fully understand what these things are.
My tires make the all to familiar shrieking against the warm tar, with nowhere else to go but straight through the few in the middle of the road. The sound of the dead weight hitting the bonnet of my car before flying over the top was like nothing I've heard before. It's sounded sickening. A mixture of bones clashing and screams. A horrific sight and sound.
The car stayed in utter silence until I pulled up to the Greene farm, to where none of us dared to move a muscle. You could hear a pin drop over the sounds of slightly irregular breathing. The beating sun shining through the front window causing the car to feel more insufferable.
"That's those things from the new isn't it?" Asked Cora quietly as though scared to break the silence. Having not enough courage in my voice to reply, I just simply nod, "that's why you had a weird day at work, wasn't it?" She asked again, this time staring at me but I refuse to meet her eyes only nodding again. Hearing the shaky breath from behind me and the sound of the door opening, snapped me back to reality.
Looking out through Cora's window, I see a slouched Maggie struggling to keep her balance. Pulling my lips into a tight smile, "Be safe," I said gently toward the shaken up girl. Muster up a nod she replies, "you too, the both of you," before turning round to met her sister Beth at the porch. Seeing the pleasant girl brought a smile to my face as I waved back to the gleeful youngest Greene.
Once Maggie was safely inside her farmhouse that's when I pulled away, only to have something at the corner of my eye catch my attention. Hershel, Maggie's father, walking away from the slightly beat barn. In his hands some sort of animal handling pole. Nothing unusually really, Hershel is a vet but that's not what's concerning. The glooming blood dripping slightly off the loop is however concerning.
"Hey Mr Greene," greeted Cora, her voice still failing her a little. Laughing at the younger girls formalities, "how many time have I told you to call me Hershel," he said walking closer to the car, a cloth in hand as he tried to discreetly clean the pole in his hands, but the deed was already done, I had already seen it.
"A couple more times should do the trick," she tries to joke, wanting to forget what had just happened. Luckily enough Hershel doesn't notice the pressed bloody handprints of the front and sides of my car, as he leans to see me at the driver's seat, "Thank you for dropping our Maggie off again Macy, it really means a lot."
"Don't sweat it. Didn't want her travelling back home herself especially now with the mess that's all over the news," a sharp inhale from Cora causes me to reach over, comfortingly grabbing her sweaty hands in my own, rubbing the backs for her hands softly.
"Ah yes, I did see that. I'm sure its nothing to worry about," he waves his hand slightly, looking over his shoulder at the barn he had just left. I frowned my eyebrows at the elder's change in body language; his wondering eyes and shuffling feet are causing me to doubt the man's knowledge of the current situation.
"Better safe than sorry I guess," I dismiss getting ready to drive off again, "I suppose you're right," his voice becoming harder to hear with him no longer facing me. The sound of my engine starting up again is what snaps him in our direction, "Well Thank you again, have a good day," he farewelled beginning to make his leave, walking up the same creaking steps to the porch.
Before he could catch the door handle, I yell, "Hey Hershel," catching his attention, "Be safe," only to receive a simple nod before he descended into his home. Home.
"Let go home," I exhale tapping my sister leg, catching her teary eyes, "we'll be fine."
I don't know who I was trying to reassure, Cora or myself, but with what has been going on recently, I think everybody could use a bit of reassuring.
This is quite a short chapter but I need to start somewhere right? If you took the time to read this, Thank you! and I hope that you liked it :)
I might start a taglist for this au, so if you would be interested in being tagged when I post for this au then just message me or comment to let me know!
I’m going to try and post chapter two later today hopefully too :))

Teruteru x M!Reader One-shot: Please Understand My Feelings!
Teruteru was so absolutely excited today! It was his birthday and there was only one thing he wanted. He wanted you! Well, that could be rephrased. To tell you he loved you! And he also wanted you. The two of you were instantly best friends the moment you met! You were hot, loved his cooking, and were overall an awesome and fun person to be with. Teruteru had tried confessing before but he always chickened out or turned it into another one of his innuendo laden remarks even when he was trying not to do that. But not today! He was going to confess to you no matter what it took! Even if it meant making the event into an extravagant show!... E-even if he had to outright just say it plainly. He’d rather just cook you something with “I love you” on the top. He wasn’t sure his heart could take saying it out loud. Even thinking about it sent his poor little heart a flutter beating faster and faster till Teru passed out. But hopefully it wouldn’t come to that. Maybe. Please.
Taking a deep breath, he pressed send on the text asking you to meet him in his lab for breakfast… At three in the morning. He needed time to cook and prepare. And he also couldn’t sleep a wink. He prepared an entire feast. He poured his soul into his dishes, needing everything to be absolutely perfect!
“Hanamura?” “Ah, Y/N. Perfect timing! Just take a seat and I’ll be out in a moment!” This was it; THIS WAS IT! He was finally going to confess to you and through his greatest passion no less! This was going to be the best confession! He had to take several trips in order to get all the dishes out to you. “What’s with the domes over everything?” You lightly scratched you head in confusion seeing most everything had a dome covering it. Teru normally only used those things when the food needed to be kept hot or needed moisture. In fact, because of the moisture Teru avoided the things since it could so easily ruin the food. “Should I remove them before the food get’s spoiled?” “No, no, no. The food’s fine. But if you simply can’t resist you can take a peek.” Though he said that, he wanted to see your reaction, but who was he to deny you satisfying your curiosity. Much to his delight you did in fact wait for him, tenderly smiling and giving him a small wave in greeting.
With flourish Teru removed the domes from each of the dishes revealing what was inside. Steamed rice in a heart shaped bowl with Natto in a heart shape on top, Miso soup with heart shaped tofu, eggs and bacon systematically placed to make a heart shape as well as the aebleskivers too, a German pancake drizzled in lemon, berries placed atop it spelling “I love you”, more berries spelling out his feelings atop French toast and pancakes and crapes and other such items. You gasped at the sight of it all. Everything glistened in a beautiful sheen, all the baked items were that perfect, crisp, golden-brown color. All the delectable smells melded together yet were still distinct making your mouth water from it all. Cutting a piece from the German pancake and French toast your ears tingled hearing that light crunch. You sighed and awed as the delectable tastes simply melted in your mouth and on your tongue. “This is amazing!” Your cheeks were sore from how much you were smiling.
Meanwhile Teru stared at you absolutely baffled. Did… did you not notice? But HOW!? “Uh, but don’t you notice anything about your breakfast today?” “Hmm? Well… I notice there’s a lot more than usual, and there’s lots of hearts and you wrote ‘I love you’ a few times, but… Ah, I guess I didn’t really notice since I was expecting it!” … WHAT!? D-did you know already he liked you!? For how long!? “Today’s your birthday! It’s important to tell yourself you love yourself today! And I can taste it as well! I’m glad you have so much passion for your wellbeing!”
In that moment Teru began to question his life choices and how those lead him to falling so hard for such a sweet and kind dolt to the point of finding this alarming yet endearing at the same time. All he could bring himself to do was gently pat you on the head as you eagerly enjoyed your meal.
Alright, so breakfast was a bust, but Teru had other ideas for how to confess to you! “Ah! Class is starting soon! We should get going. I’ll come back at break to clean up, alright? I can at least do that so you can just enjoy today and relax!” You quickly got up from your seat and made your way for the door. “Now, hold on. I don’t want you slaving away cleaning dishes on my birthday.” He pinned you to the wall or tried to. He just slapped his hands against the wall blocking your way. “Kabedon?... Hanamura I think you’re a little short for this.” “I-what? NO! Listen to me! I much rather have you all to myself today.” “… OH! Yeah, I’m cool with hanging out! But… I do have a birthday surprise I’m still preparing so I can’t be with you all day, but when I have free time, I’ll come find you! Now let’s get to class before we’re late.” … Perhaps Teru should have been a bit more specific in his wording. Oh well. If you were going to be spending most of the day with him, at least that gave him more opportunities to confess. Or at this rate just keep trying too.
In class Teru wrote ‘I love you, Y/n. Yours truly Teruteru Hanamura’ on a piece of paper and folded it into a paper plane. Then ever so carefully, he tossed it to you. “Hmm?” You examined the paper for a moment before noticing Teru was waving at you. You waved back before your attention was drawn back to the plane. Teru intently watched as you began writing on the page! Oh no. What were you going to say? Did you like him back, did you not? What were you going to say!? Then you tossed it back! Unfolding the page Teru realized you just filled out the math sheet and never looked at the back where his message was. He was going to attempt this again this time with a complexly blank page but Miss Yukizome noticed and put a stop to it.
Okay, something else! Instead Teru wrote you a letter pouring all his feeling onto the page! THIS had to work! “Y/N! I need you to read this right now!” “Huh? Okay!” Teru fidgeted as you took what felt to be forever and a day reading that letter. “You used the wrong ‘your’ and ‘you’re’ through the whole thing. You are missing a few commas on the fifth, sixth, twelfth, and eighteenth lines. And… the line where you call me a hot stallion, I think you mean to compare me to a hot stallion. Now if you excuse me, I have a phone call to make!” Before leaving you passed him the letter back.
… Maybe writing his feelings out was the problem! “Mioda! I need your help!”
Finding it difficult to hear her on the other line you put in ear buds and turned your volume up hoping that would help. Unfortunately, she was also in a crowd, so it only helped so much. As you exited the building you found a stage had been set up. Not even a moment later you got a text from Chiaki asking you to come to said stage. And so, you did. Still trying to make the call work.
You were incredibly confused seeing Ibuki, Chiaki, Nagito, Kazuichi and Teruteru on stage, everyone with an instrument of some sort except for Teru who stood before a microphone. They began to play something, but of course in that moment your special guest was at a crucial juncture and you had to help her with directions and finding landmarks. You texted Chiaki an apology saying you had to go and would likely be busy for a while.
Of course as you were walking away was when the heart shaped fireworks went off and Teru belted out his feelings in an impromptu speech.
Teru sighed in defeat, falling to his knees seeing you dash away. “Y/n, darlin’ why must you be so elusive, like making the perfect mix of spices for Mama’s sweet and spicy chicken skewers.” Kazuichi kneeled down beside Teru, lightly patting his back. “Sorry man. Maybe next time.” Chiaki placed down the bass guitar she held and took out her Gameboy. “Yeah. You haven’t lost any lives yet. Keep trying and you’ll get him to notice… eventually.” Kazuichi nervously scratched his cheek as he stood up. “Yeah, that guy’s always been oblivious. Even from the start.” “Yes, I knew that when I fell for him.” Teru took out his phone, looking though the notes for ideas he came up for confessing to you. “Thank you for trying to help me.” Seeing what the next plan was, he got to his feet reinvigorated. “Alright! There’s only so many hours left in the day; I better get started on my next plan!” “Wonderful!” Of course, Nagito had to speak. “Go Hanamura! With that blooming hope in your heart go after Y/N!” Before Nagito could go on another of his hope rants, Teruteru ran away.
As you were rounding the corner to your dorms Teru jumped out dressed in a white suit with a bouquet in hand. “Y/N, watch this video!” “H-huh? Uh, sure?” The video was about the language of flowers and their meanings. When the video was finished you found Teru kneeling on one knee. “Cool. Though I’m not sure you have to get a bouquet of flowers meaning ‘I love you’ to show me the video. And I think kneeling like that is bad for people’s posture. If you’ll excuse me, I need to get to my dorm to check my reservation.” All Teru could do was just stand there dumbfounded. “… HOW!?”
You hurriedly placed on your windbreaker as you slammed the door open. “Hanamura? What are you doing here? And with an umbrella?” “Y/N, it’s raining! Share this umbrella with me!” “What? But there’s not a cloud in the sky. Wait, then why is there rain?” “Just… if you’d like please share this umbrella with me.” “Uh…” You walked out into the precipitation and looked up. “Oh. Hanamura, it’s fine.” You then waved up at the dorm ceiling. “Hey! Souda! Could you turn off the water hose and stop pointing it over Hanamura? He thinks it’s raining!” After a moment Kazuichi face-palmed and dropped the hose. “Hanamura, I think this is a lost cause.” Then Nagito popped out of the window to his dorm room. “Just hold on to that beautiful hope inside you! I believe in you Hanamura!” “Uhh, anyway! Hanamura! Your birthday surprise is ready! Well more like on it’s way. But! Please, please, please, come with me! I promise you won’t regret it!” “… Sure. I’ll come with you.” “Heck yeah! C’mon! We’ve waisted enough time already, I’m already a little late!”
“Hurry, Hanamura! We’ll be late!” “I-I’m hurrying as fast as I can!” You took Teru’s hand and dragged him along at your breakneck speed. “We can’t miss the train! Hurry up!” “Train?”
“T-thank goodness. We got here in time.” You both collapsed onto the train seats, completely winded, desperately catching your breath. “Yay. We made it before rush hour.” You slumped in your seat, looking out the window at that gorgeous sunset. You so goofily smiled to yourself imagining Teru’s reaction to your gift. You just couldn’t wait. “Hey, Hanamura. You just as excited as I am? … Hmm?” You got no response. “Hanamura? HANAMURA!”
…
You sighed in relieved seeing him waking up. “Just in time, we’re almost at our stop!” “Huh? Wa-? What happened?” “Uh, once we were on the train you keeled over and started foaming at the mouth. But you seem okay now! I think. How are you feeling? Please be okay.” “Oh, no, no, darlin’ I’m fine.” He was snapped out of that haze realizing he accidently let his accent slip out! Hopefully you didn’t notice. “Ah, your accent!” Of course you notice that! OF COURSE!... At least you seemed happy to hear it.
Once you got off at your train platform you swiftly lead Teru to a car lot. “You rented a car?” “Yeah! I’ve been saving for months for this and other things, and even took driving lessons for this, but it’s worth it! C’mon! Get in! We can’t be late!” You dragged him in by the collar of his shirt, too excited to wait for him.
“This shouldn’t be a long trip, but if you want, you could turn on the radio.” Taking you up on your offer he flipped it on, hoping it could distract him from wondering where you were taking him. A farm for fresh ingredients? But you said it wasn’t far and you were still in the city. A love hotel perhaps! That’d be a dream come true! Before his mind could start to run wild, he noticed the song that was playing. Yuki no Hana, Snow Flower. A classic. Odd it was playing though since it wasn’t winter yet. The song was literally about watching the snowfall with a lover. “… Y/N.” “Yeah.” “This song reminds me of you.” “… I remind you of winter?” “No, the other part.” “… Uh… The coming of winter?” “No, not winter.” “OH! About helping one another through hard times! Always being together!” Teru was silent for a moment, just taking in that moment. “Yeah. That part.” You weren’t wrong… It was close enough. “I’d like to stay by your side too! You’re my best friend.”
…
Maybe the only way to get it though your thick skull was to just out right, out loud, say it. But the question was… could he bring himself to tell you so directly without chickening out like he had done in the past.
“An airport?” You giddily chuckled seeing Hanamura trying to puzzle out why the two of you were here of all places. Once you finally found a parking space, you immediately stepped out to make a call. You then lead Teru into the airport. You looked around, trying to figure out if you had missed her already. “Did we pass by already?” “Mama!? Is that you!?” Teru raced to the woman, giving her the tightest hug he could. “Teru, my baby!” “Mama! How are you here! What about the diner!?” She simply pointed to you, who was mumbling to yourself about how she said she’d be by the shops which was where you were. “Y/N.” “The little sweetie. He’s been planning this for months now. Saving up money for plane tickets, my hotel, and covering the payment I would have gotten from working. The dear even tried tracking down your brother and sister but there just wasn’t enough time before your birthday.” The woman gently pat your arm, finally getting your attention. “Huh-Oh! There you are ma’am! I thought we missed you. Ah, let me take your luggage! I’ll take it all to the car while you and your son catch up!” “… Y/N.” “Yeah, Hanamura? OH! I forgot! Happy birthday! That’s what you were expecting, right? Sorry? I got caught up in th-” “I love you so much.” You simply stared at Teru as a bright red dusted your cheeks. “You… you love me? Wait…” One could see the cogs turning in your head as your blush darkened and spread to the tips of your ears. “I’M SO SORRY! I DIDN’T REALIZE SOONER!” “Sweetie-” He held one of your hands in both of his. “YOU WERE TRYING TO TELL ME ALL DAY!” “Darlin’-” “YOU LITERALLY WROTE ‘I LOVE YOU’ IN BERRIES!” “Y/N-” I’M SO SORRY I DIDN’T NOTICE! HOW COULD I BE SO DUMB!? I’VE HAD A CRUSH ON YOU SINCE WE MET! I LOVE YOU AND I DIDN’T EVEN NOTICE YOU-… you love… me too…” You buried your ever-reddening face in your hands realizing what you just said. “… So Mama, this is my boyfriend, Y/N.” “H-hi, Ma’am.” Teruteru’s mother simply looked at you two happily yet with confusion evident in her eyes. “I thought you two were already boyfriends since you write so much about Y/N in your letters and how Y/N went to all the effort to get me here.” “M-Mama! I-I don’t write about him that much in my letters!” “Oh, my mistake, there’s some other sweetest, kindest, most selfless dope in the world you’ve been trying to confess to for the past few months?” “YOU’VE BEEN TRYING TO TELL ME FOR MONTHS!?”
This… was certainly not how Teru imagined getting together with you but thinking about it on the ride to the hotel you got for his mother. He wouldn’t have it any other way.

it’s true lads, i have actually written something
(this was a prologue of a long canon fic that i’m writing/on hiatus on (oops) but i was thinking of changing the pov of it, so this doesn’t fit in it anymore) i may end up finishing the canon one, but it is long, so it probably won’t see the light of day, but we’ll see
anyway, here’s the ao3 link if you would like to read it on there: https://archiveofourown.org/works/31116254
a tragic twist of fate:
summary: the lupin family are enjoying a quiet evening, when an unwelcome visitor shows up, changing all of their lives forever.
word count: 1.6k
The sun was setting, casting a burning haze across the sea, and subsequently over the unsuspecting cul-de-sac in the Gower. The pebble-dashed bungalows that hugged the road were quaint and uniform, with a meagre patch of grass out the front that barely constituted as a garden. All things considered; it was a very normal street. There were the Jones', with their tiny Yorkshire terrier, which was small in size but easily compensated with its tremendous bark. The Thomas', who were always out the front regardless of the weather, observing the street's comings and goings. The Liu's, whose windows were constantly filled with an assortment of different lights, illuminating the street, making it feel like Christmas every day. Opposite them, were the Lupin's. There was Lyall, who has a mysterious job that no one is quite able to figure out exactly what it entails; his wife, Hope, who made sure that the whole street was well and truly fed; finally, their 5-year-old son, Remus, who's usually found playing out on the empty street.
Remus, as expected, was having a game of tag with Julia from across the road when his mother called out from the front door. She had thick blonde hair, slightly greying at the crown of her head, which was tied up into a loose bun, the fly-always whipping the side of her face, which was covered slightly with gravy.
"Remus, it's time to come in now. Your father has just gotten home, and dinner's almost ready."
"But Mammy! I'm not even tired," Remus pleaded, shouting back, a little breathless. "Can we have a few more minutes? Please?"
"It's okay, Mrs Lupin." Julia panted, brushing her dark fringe from out of her eyes, it was a miracle she could even see. She was a few years older than Remus but was still somehow shorter than the boy (who was only slightly tall for his age). "I think my parents want me back soon anyway." She turned to Remus and smiled, "We're going to go out and play again tomorrow, aren’t we Re?”
"Yeah, okay then. I'll see you tomorrow! Bye!" Remus chirped back, with some newfound energy. He then proceeded to hurtle up the driveway and stumble through the front door.
“Not even going to give your old mammy a cwtch?” Hope laughed, following her son through the door, shoving her hands into her pockets.
He clambered onto his chair at the kitchen table and watched eagerly as his mother took a roast lamb out of the oven and began to dish it out on to mismatched plates. There were roast potatoes, which were crispy on the outside, but still fluffy and buttery on the inside, peas, carrots, and parsnips - that were roasted to perfection, and it was all smothered with thick gravy that was laden with salt and had the potential to clog up your arteries – but if it’s bad for you then that meant it would probably delicious. Remus’ mouth was practically watering.
"Now, as you've been running around all afternoon, I'll give you the extra roastie, how about that?" Hope smiled down at Remus, scooping a roast potato onto the plate.
Lyall stooped into the kitchen at that moment, placing his tattered briefcase down onto the splintered wooden counter and bent over to kiss his wife on the head. He was tall and lanky with brown curly hair that was just starting to thin. He wore deep navy robes over the top of a well-fitted suit, looking as if he had just walked out of a very important meeting. He could have been a very intimidating man if it weren't for the way his eyes lit up and his mouth formed a crooked grin when he looked adoringly across his small family, with an immense sense of pride.
"This looks wonderful, darling. What did I ever do to deserve you?" he laughed as went over to his son and ruffled his hair. "According to Mrs Thomas, you've been charging up and down the road all day! No wonder you look knackered." He fell into the chair next to him, as Hope brought the dinner over.
The family ate with easy conversation. Hope explained how she had heard from Mrs Thomas that Mrs Jones was apparently putting empty wine bottles into her recycling bin and Lyall explained his new case at work, but it seemed boring, so Remus didn't pay it much attention. He wolfed his food down so quickly, barely stopping for a breath, his poor mother thought he might end up with indigestion.
"Stay in your own lane, Lyall, that's what they said," Lyall explained in between mouthfuls, gesturing at no one in particular with his fork. "They won't believe me though, and that Greyback has been released again, the man makes my skin crawl." He used air quotes when describing him and huffed, as he took another bite out of his roast. "It's madness, I told them that. Did they listen? No. Cases of lycanthropy are going up and it's because of creatures like them. String 'em all up for all I care. Bloody werewolves.”
"Not at the table Lyall," Hope piped in, sensing that her husband was about to go on another one of his world-renowned rants. "I understand it's a pain, especially if no one listens to you at work, but let's keep dinner time a happy affair, don't you think?"
"Yeah, no, sorry love" he gave her a sweet smile, which she returned. "Anyway. Did you have you had fun today, Re?"
The boy looked up and nodded quickly. "Yeah, me and Julia played lots of games. We had a race to see who was faster. And I won!" he exclaimed, talking at the speed of a hundred miles per hour, he spread his arms for dramatic effect and sat up higher in his chair. "She said I was cheating, but I wasn't, I promise!"
"No, of course, you weren't." Lyall laughed and looked down at his son like he was the most precious thing in the world.
After dinner, the family were positioned around the small-rickety fire pit that was positioned in the corner of the patio, made up of broken slabs of concrete with weeds emerging like great vines through the gaps. The fire crackled and spat, specks of charred wood and the burning flame releasing swirling smoke into the atmosphere. They sat on wobbly wooden chairs, that they had gotten from the charity shop, which were starting to rot and covered in splinters. However, Hope had made some colourful and slightly garish cushions, so it was incredibly comfortable, despite the small risk of the chairs collapsing from underneath them. Hope was sat with a pair of knitting needles in hand, focusing on the burgundy jumper that Remus would undoubtedly get for Christmas in a couple of months time. Remus sat opposite and was looking eagerly at his father, who was making the little old wooden figurines of soldiers that Hope collected do an Irish jig across the uneven stone.
Then, there was a rustling in the undergrowth at the far end of the garden. The birds that had nested and settled in for the evening took flight, flying off into the rising moon, bright and beautiful.
"What on earth could that be?" Hope wondered out loud, staring out into the distance, squinting her eyes.
'I'll go check it out.” Lyall chuckled as he pushed himself out of the chair. "Probably just a fox, I shall go shoo it away."
He wandered to the end of the garden, managing to avoid the snail hotel Remus had built a year ago. He lit up his wand so that he could see at least three steps ahead of himself.
It was a surprise that it remained standing, despite the howling gales and torrential rain it had to endure, it stayed. For as long as he could remember, Remus looked after the snails in the hotel, gave them any leftover lettuce. They were his favourite magical creatures. It fascinated him, the way they could stick to the walls and go upside down, the only way that was possible, Remus decided, was magic. Lyall didn’t have the heart to tell him otherwise.
"Ah, Lyall Lupin. Just the man I wanted to see." An unfamiliar voice snarled. The voice was deep and ragged as if it had been strained from screaming too loud "Fancy seeing you here."
“Fenrir.” Lyall cut back, voice curt but contained a small tremble. "Leave me and my family alone and take your unpleasant business somewhere else." He straightened his jacket and stood rigidly, making himself taller. But the figure, Fenrir, stood a head above him, despite his hunched posture.
"I don't think that would be necessary." He countered, his voice becoming more and more menacing. "How is your family? I'd love to meet them." He shoved Lyall out of the way, causing him to lose balance and he stumbled into the hedge.
“Hope! Remus! Get into the house and lock the door!” Lyall shouted, desperately, unable to keep up with Greyback, who was striding across the garden.
Hope quickly grabbed her things and ran, pushing open the back door with a creak.
“Remus, come on lamb, into the house.” Hope coaxed from the door, trying to sound as calm as possible.
But Remus stayed rooted to the spot, unmoving, fixed and waiting, staring into the monster before him.
Fenrir Greyback was a giant of a man, towering easily over 6 feet tall. He was unkempt and greasy, covered in black matted hair. His deceitful yellowing eyes emitting nothing venom. Remus scrambled off of the chair and edged slowly towards his mother. It was too late.
Their eyes locked. A deal had been struck.
Under the silver moon, Greyback's manic grin turned pointed and wider. Bones cracked, twisted, and popped. Hair became thicker, wired, and coarse. Tortured hands and feet transformed into gnarly claws. His previously crooked nose became a leathery, wet, snout.
Barring his teeth, Fenrir Greyback took a couple of paces forward, crushing the hotel under a monstrous paw, towards a terrified Remus Lupin.
And pounced.

Raindrops on Roses - (sequel to NERD / 1.7k words / au)
ao3 link
Castiel was so tired he could feel it in his bones. Everything that could go wrong today, did.
First, the projector in the lecture hall wouldn’t turn on, so he’d had to only give half his seminar. Then, Anna had called in sick and asked Cas to cover her class, which he did gladly because Anna was a good friend (and because it was only an Intro to History class - he could do that in his sleep). But she’d told him the wrong room number, and by the time he’d arrived at the correct room, half of the class had left. And then, as if the day couldn’t get any worse, his beloved car - a Lincoln Continental - had decided it’d had enough. He left it in the university staff parking lot and got the bus back home at the end of the day in the pouring rain.
By the time he made it to the front door, he was soaked through to the skin. He sighed wearily, at least Dean would be home from work and would easily be able to cheer him up. Just being in the man’s presence was enough to fill anyone with overwhelming joy (though Castiel might be a little biased).
Castiel unlocked the door and shook off his dripping trench coat. He frowned when he noticed the darkness engulfing the house. Where was Dean?
“Dean?” He called out.
No answer.
Trying to avoid getting the carpet wet, Cas moved into the kitchen and flicked the light on. The room was the same as he and Dean had left it that morning. They left the house together before saying their goodbyes and headed off in opposite directions. The only thing that was different, Cas noticed, was the note left in the middle of the kitchen table with what looked like a gift card placed next to it. Cas slid closer to inspect it.
‘Happy Anniversary babe!
Come meet me x’
Attached to the note, wasn’t actually a gift card but a hotel key card with ‘Room 401’ printed on it.
Fuck! Crap, shit, fuck, fuck, fuck!
Castiel had completely forgotten. Today was his and Dean’s fifth anniversary. He was meant to pick up Dean’s present during his break in classes but that didn’t end up happening because he’d taken Anna’s class.
How could he forget? It had been five years since the day that they’d met properly for the first time. Cas couldn’t believe he’d been so nervous, looking back. Everyday with Dean since then had been wonderful.
Within a year of that day in the airport, Cas had finished his degree and moved straight out to Kansas as soon as he could. He got a job at the university and had been working his way up to teaching a few of his own classes in the history department.
Dean still worked at the same garage he’d been at when they met. Except now, he’d bought out half of it from his uncle Bobby and they worked together with the idea that Dean would one day buy him out fully when Bobby wanted to retire (though Castiel suspected the old man planned to just give it to Dean no matter what the younger man said).
They were happy.
Castiel was definitely happy. He’d even been thinking lately that he might pluck up the courage to propose to Dean, and maybe suggest a couple of kids down the line. He hadn’t brought any of this up with Dean though. And now he wouldn’t have a chance. Dean would probably hate him now.
Without a second’s more thought, Cas grabbed the key card and ran back out of the house into the rain.
The card was for the Imperial Hotel, which was only a couple of blocks away. It’d be faster to run it than try to get a cab at this time. Plus, he was already soaked through, what’s a little more rain gonna do?
As he darted around people on sidewalks and jumped over dogs on leashes, Cas went over in his head how he’d try to manage to convince Dean how sorry he was that he’d forgotten their anniversary.
When the Imperial came into view, he increased his speed until he reached the front doors and stopped dead in his tracks. This place was incredibly fancy, somewhere Dean and Cas would never even think to go. Dean really had made an effort.
Castiel looked down at his dripping clothes. Was he really about to embarrass Dean even more by dashing through a posh hotel, dripping water all over its floors? He pictured Dean sitting upstairs in one the many rooms, waiting for his boyfriend to appear.
Cas would run through fire for that man. The hotel managers would have to get over a bit of water.
Before he could rethink his choice, Castiel dashed through the front doors and eagerly tried to find the elevators. Luck seemed to finally be on his side because the elevators opened right out into the lobby.
Ignoring the looks he was getting from other guests, Castiel dashed again to an open elevator. Thankfully, it remained empty as he hurriedly pressed the ‘4’ button until it lit up. The doors closed slowly as if to tease Castiel.
The elevator journey was not nearly long enough for Castiel to calm his nerves. As he stepped out and made his way to the right room, he pulled the key card out of his pocket. He made quick work of locating the room and scanning the key card, slamming the door handle down and pushing the door open urgently.
“Dean, I’m so sorry. I forg-” Castiel was stopped in his ranted apology by the sight of Dean knelt down by a bed scattered with rose petals, with something in his hands.
Once Dean’s eyes took in Cas, he immediately threw the item he was holding onto the bed and raced over to his boyfriend.
“Cas, babe, what happened?” He asked as he put a hand to Cas’ white shirt, which was now see-through. “You look like you took on a rain cloud and lost. Where’s your trench coat? Did you go out in that rain in just this?”
Castiel’s chest still heaved from all the running he’d just done. He took one look at his boyfriend and the day’s stresses all came flooding out. “I’ve had such a bad day. Nothing was going right at work. Then Anna called in sick so I covered her class and forgot all about your present. Then my car finally died so I had to get the bus home in the rain. By which time, I’d forgotten all about our anniversary altogether. I saw your note so I ran here. I’m sorry, Dean.” Castiel’s eyes pleaded with Dean to forgive him.
Dean looked at Cas with awe and love. Before he could say anything, he pulled Cas in for a warming, loving kiss. When he pulled away, he didn’t let go for long, pressing himself against Castiel and putting his face in his boyfriend’s neck. “You have nothing to be sorry for, beautiful.” He whispered against Cas’ cool skin.
“But, Dean! Look at all the effort you’ve gone to!” Castiel protested. He stepped away from Dean and took a closer look at the decorations around the bed. “Look at the petals on the bed.”
Now that Cas had a closer look he could tell the petals weren’t randomly scattered at all. Dean had shaped them to spell the word ‘NERD.’ Cas’ heart melted. That had become their little inside joke since that day in the airport. Cas was even saved as ‘NERD’ in Dean’s phone - with a heart emoji next to it, of course.
“And look at the candles!” Castiel continued looking at the beautiful atmosphere Dean had created. “And the - wait, is that a ring?” Castiel grabbed what looked like a ring box off the bed. This must have been what Dean threw over his shoulder when Cas had stormed in.
“Well, yeah, I guess I was planning to propose.”
Castiel whirled around to face Dean, ring box still in hand and unopened.
“What?!”
Dean smirked at his boyfriend getting flustered again. “I was down on one knee ready to propose when you came in.” He walked over to Cas and took the ring box out of his hands, placing it on a side table and gripping hold of Cas’ hands with both of his. “But then I saw how exhausted and, well, wet you looked so I just sorta hurled the ring away to check you were okay.” He squeezed Castiel’s hand.
Cas looked down at Dean’s hands in his. “So you were going to propose?” Dean nodded and let out a hum in confirmation. “So I ruined it?” Tears started forming in Cas’ eyes. He could feel Dean’s gaze on him but couldn’t bring himself to meet those beautiful green eyes.
“Cas.” Dean whispered, raising Castiel’s chin to make him meet his eyes. “You haven’t ruined anything. And even if you had, you could ruin a million proposals and I’d still go for a million and one.”
“But I forgot your present too.” Cas protested, tears falling down his cheeks.
Dean caught the tears with a finger and wiped them away. “Castiel Novak, you wonderful, beautiful, frustrating idiot. You are my gift. Today and always. I love you, Nerd.”
Castiel finally let out a watery chuckle. “I love you too, Dean.”
“Good.” Dean smiled. “Now, I’m gonna pick up that ring; I’m gonna get down on one knee, and ask you to spend the rest of your life with me. Is that okay?”
Castiel chuckled again and nodded - he couldn’t trust himself to speak right now.
Dean did as he said he would, not letting go of Cas’ hand once (though it was a bit tricky opening the box one-handed).
“Castiel Novak, I’ve known I wanted to spend the rest of my life with you since the day you ran into my arms at that airport. I love you even more everyday. Will you marry me?”
Cas let out a sob and fell to his knees, pulling Dean in for a kiss. “Yes, of course I will.” He whispered against his fiance’s lips.
