Soyeon's POV

Yuqi and I arrived at the main entrance of X Company. I looked up at the building, I could see that the lights on the ninth level. The bellboy led the both of us to the lift lobby. He swiped his card and tapped at the ninth level. "Hey, we also have cards, can't we hust tap the level ourselves?" Yuqi asked him.

"Your clearance to the places in this building is limited, level nine is one of the levels that you are not allowed to go to." The bellboy said.

"Why can't we go to these levels?" Yuqi asked. I was a little puzzled with the direction that this conversation was taking. What is Yuqi doing?

"As you know, the company has secrets." The bellboy has picked up that Yuqi has an aim in the conversation and is more cautious. "Why do you want to know?"

"Sorry, just curious." Yuqi mumbled an apology. Ding! The elevator reached the ninth floor. The lift doors open to reveal men and women dressed in suits and pretty dresses talking to one another. I gasped at the amount of people that I see. There were so many people in the mafia! I had never seen most of them. I stole a glance at Yuqi, she seemed completely unfazed, like she was used to it. I think I saw Soojin in the crowd, I was just about to wave my hand at her when Yuqi dragged me to the table where they put the food. Yuqi grabbed a small peice of cake and ate it. "I love the food." She smiled. She looked so cute when she eats I thought. Over the past few months, I am certain that I had a crush on Yuqi and I was glad that I got to spend time with her.

Yuqi grabbed 2 glasses of champagne, she handed one to me and said, "We are the main characters tonight, many people may want to talk to us. Its good to have a drink handy." We walked through the throngs of people that we slightly raising their glasses in our direction. I saw Yuqi returning the gesture. I quickly copied her actions. Yuqi seemed like she knew what to do and was used to such functions. We walked an entire round in the function room, I noticed Yuqi stopping for a slightly longer time at a place near to the corridors, she looked around carefully, as if she was finding something. I frowned at the strange way she was behaving since we reached the place.

After a while, the man that welcomed us on the first day 4 months ago, Mr. Jung, went on stage to address everyone. I did not want to look at that man, he reminds me of what happened that day. I shuddered. Yuqi noticed it and she bended over," Are you okay? You seemed like as if you remembered something bad." 

"I just thought of that day. The two men." I replied, not wanting to elaborate more. Yuqi looked at me knowingly and squeezed my shoulders. We turned our attention back to the stage were Mr Jung was standing.

"Hello everyone, I beg for everyone's attention. Tonight, joining us, are two new recruits who have passed the assessment. Many may have seen them just now as they were making their rounds in this place. Nonetheless, I would like to invite them on stage and talk to everybody. Soyeon and Yuqi, please." Mr. Jung told the crowd. Yuqi and I walked to the stage.

"Hello everyone, I am Yuqi. Please take care of me in the future." Yuqi said, she seemed very formal. "Hello everyone, I am Soyeon. Please take care of me in the future too." I said, copying her words. The people that were standing below the stage started mummuring while someone started to clap for us. Soon, everyone joined in. Mr Jung came back on stage and waved his hands at the people, signalling for attention. "Now, lets give them a proper and traditional welcome." The people cheered. Before I could register what was going on, I felt a pair of hands grab me from behind. From the side of my eye, I could see that Yuqi was being held by a man. 

My instincts kicked in and I kicked the man in his sensitive area, while he loosen his grip, I quickly wiggled out of his arms and kicked him in the head. The force I had used was enough to knock down an average man, but he wasn't an average man. He stood up holding his head with one hand, while the other reached into his pocket, pulling out a gun. I panicked. I slowly raised my hand while I analysed him. His weakness was probably the fact that he was really bulky. I could use my size to my advantage. I jumped off the stage and quickly ran up back to the stage on the stairs. I made sure that I was fast enough that when the man had jumped off, I was just behind him on the stage. I jumped onto his shoulder and hit him hard with my elbow on his head. He started tilting to the front and I jumped off from his shoulders. 

I turned around and saw Yuqi fighting 2 men on stage with a knife? Where did she get that from? She knocked down one of the men and faced the other. The man threw his weapon away and Yuqi followed suit. The man then charged at Yuqi, who dodged and turned around to face him. The man wanted to punch her but she caught his fist. With his hand in hers, she quickly clasped his neck with her legs and brought him down to the floor. After that, she calmly picked up her coat from the floor only to see it creased, she knitted her eyebrows at the sight of the creased coat. 

How can she be so calm and collected? I wondered. She looks so cool when she is fighting. Mr. Jung started clapping and soon all of the guests followed suit. "What a nice way to receive the welcome! I've never seen recruits fare so well before!" He beamed. Yuqi and I walked off the stage. We walked to the lift lobby, we were excused from the rest of the party that night and we really wanted to go home. The driver drove us back to the apartment.

I collapsed onto the sofa. "How did you know?" I wondered out loud.

"Sorry?" She asked, confused.

"How did you know that there may be an attack and where did you get that knife from?" 

"I assumed that there was a possibility that there would be a planned attack so I brought the knife with me and stashed it in my coat."

"Wow. Why are you so calm and collected?"

"I've been in such situations before." She answered and went to her room. I really want to know more about the things that she knows. She seemed like she had so many things on her mind. What is their plan? What did Shuhua, Soojin and Yuqi discuss about that was so important such that I am not allowed to hear? And I could've sworn I saw Soojin at the party today. I walked back to my room, undressed and went to sleep with troubled thoughts.

Yuqi's POV

We were lucky that I had a feeling that it would happen. I checked the hallways today, I am sure that there were some that needed fingerprints to open the doors. Mr. Jung surely knows that I was looking around. The way he phrased those sentences. I need to be more careful. I am sure that he is waiting for me to slip at something. Otherwise, he would not be giving us a one week break before we truly start with the missions.

Miyeon is known for being extremely feminine and girlish and being on the receiving end of affection. It’s her trait, something everyone adores her for, and something she’s proud of. Yet, with you, she ends up doing things that are traditionally done by ‘the giver’ or the ‘man in the relationship’. Often, you’ll see her covering your shoulders with her favorite jacket when it’s cold, wrapping an arm around your waist to pull you closer when you seem uncomfortable, letting you borrow her shirts and accessories, and – hear ye, hear ye – big spooning you. She does it all so casually and without a word leaving her mouth, just a sweet smile, making it seem like a normal thing to do when, in reality, it isn’t. Nicha speaks to you in English, which is how she’s practiced and became proficient in it. She often finds herself malfunctioning though because of the crap you do to the point that she thinks in three languages. If you do something stupid to annoy her, for example, the thought train in her brain choo-choos from “โอ้ ให้ตายเถอะ เธอทำอะไรลงไป-?” to “잠깐만 왜 그렇게 웃는 게 이렇게 귀엽지?” to “OH CRAP THERE’S FLOUR IN MY HAIR?!” in a split second. It’s crazy to her because, before you, her mind’s default language was Thai, only translating it to words in English or Korean or something else she knew if she had to speak to someone who wasn’t from her country, which was a huge portion of the world. For you to be able to make her think multilingually? That was a feat she never saw happening. She makes sure that she speaks in English by the end of the day though, which is why she lags a couple of times when trying to respond to you.

First, her thoughts are jumbled in different languages. Second, she has to bring them all back to her native language - Thai. Third, she has to translate what she wants to say from Thai to English. Fourth, she has to make sure she doesn’t end up directly translating Thai phrases and idioms to English, where they make no sense. Give her a break.

Soojin is quiet. She was the quietest member in (G)I-DLE, a stark contrast to the other girls. She also used to playfully reject most affection that they (Shuhua) offered, acting all tsundere-like. When it comes to you, however, you find that she’s the one initiating almost everything. Random back hugs, her hand suddenly sliding into yours perfectly, her lips puckering into that adorable duck lip she has when your faces are barely touching, you feeling your cheeks being cupped by her as she gives you uncalled-for kisses and more. If you try to push her away or ignore her acts of love, she’ll playfully whine and pester you to give her the attention that she desires from you. Of course, she knows where to stop bothering you and to give you space when you seriously need some alone time, but in moments unlike that, she’ll be like a small toddler bothering their parent for something insignificant.

It’s like you’re the Soojin to her Shuhua in SooShu, which is ironic if anything. She can’t be bothered to change her mannerisms though – she loves you so dearly that she’s afraid her heart might burst and she wants to make sure you know that.

jeon soyeon

Soyeon wrote Queencard and Allergy on a whim after you once told her that you didn’t like the way your body looked. You had been her muse for a few love songs, her favorite example being when she collaborated with Nicha on the lyrics of Dahlia and got endlessly teased by the girl for months on end for it (“You’re a simp!”), but these two were dedicated to you. Of course, she never mentioned it to anyone for fear of your name getting leaked out to fans, and she wasn’t going to get made fun of for loving you twice – she learned her lesson with one girl, imagine if all the others joined in on it? She didn’t allow you to listen to either until it was released officially, but it was all worth it when she got to see you screaming ‘why am I me?’ and ‘my boob and booty’s hot’ 24/7 around her. 

She’d always sport a small smile when she saw you listening to it, knowing that this made you feel at least a little bit better and confident in yourself. You had done so much for her and had been her rock and inspiration when she struggled and this was the least she could do to repay the favor.

Yuqi is loud and argumentative to the point she can break the eardrums of whoever she sits in a heated discussion. She uses it to her advantage when she wants people to see her viewpoint and as a stan attractor for her group. Having to put up an image like that all the time in front of cameras and the eyes of adoring fans is exhausting though, and she always looks forward to the end of the day when she can come back to you and melt in your arms, or at least video call you if she’s on tour. You’re the calm to her storm, and she admires you for that. You’re able to handle her, rain or shine. Even if she gets overly emotional over something tiny, you’ll always be there to console her. Her favorite pastime is to simply cuddle with you on the couch and talk to you about random shit quietly as she closes her eyes and lets you hold her close. She can be herself with you, plain and simple, without worrying about what you think of her.

You’re her comfort space, where she can just be. As an idol, such a privilege is hard to get, which is why you’re her little secret, hidden away from almost everyone except a select few, and reserved for her only.

Shuhua is boisterous. She loves to make quips at people and bullies them playfully (just look at Miyeon). All the members and her family are victims of her teasing – no one is spared, except you. Instead, she lets you poke fun at her, with smacks to her head, mocking whatever she does, making disgusted looks at her when she acts cute, and whatnot. She’ll patiently wait there for you to be done before responding to you with an exasperated sigh or an insult back. It’s not as harsh as what she’s said to the other girls, and they have noticed the obvious favoritism whenever you go over to their dorms. They always complain about it to Shuhua, especially Yuqi, saying that they should get some of her love too. She denies any accusations of special treatment and argues back that they’re not her partner, you are, and thus they’re not worthy of her affection. It usually ends with Yuqi and Shuhua bantering for a long while as the rest, including you, watch in amusement.

You’re so special, one of the best things that’s happened to her. As much as she loves her group, you’ll always be on a higher pedestal in her head than them, resulting in a free pass and a shield from her relentless taunts. You don’t know whether to be grateful or a little concerned, but it’s nice to boast about a liberty to the others and watch their faces of annoyance.

Because barely a minute after you return studying, she pulls you back in for a kiss

And you never end up finishing studying because she pushes you onto the bed before you can say anything else

Probably dramatically gasps when she sees your glasses

She will ask to try them on just to annoy you

She’ll put the glasses on with pride

You felt a soft tug on your arm, turning to see a woman you’d never met before. She appeared to have a confused glare shooting at the person harassing you.

“I have been looking for you all night.” She spoke towards you yet loud enough for the person to hear her.

They got the hint and walked off with a defeated huff. Still, the woman helping you had pulled you away from that area of the club and out of sight in case that person came back.

“Thank you.” You sighed a breath of relief. “I was starting to get scared.”

“I saw. You looked very uncomfortable so I figured you didn’t know that person.” She glanced around the place at other party-goers.

“My name is Miyeon, by the way.” She introduced herself once the coast was clear.

“Hey, my love. So sorry I took long, it was like the whole city was in the restroom.” A woman with a sweet smile came up beside you, putting her arm around you.

“And you need to leave my darling alone before I call for security.”

You smirked watching the creep walk away.

“I hope you didn’t mind me being your girlfriend for a minute there.” She moved in front of you, the same sweet smile on her face directed toward you.

“Not at all.” Your heart fluttered saying that.

“Hey! You told me you were going to the restroom!” A woman with curly hair walked up to you two, noticing your discomfort.

“Who are you? And why are you talking to my partner?! They’re mine!” She looped her arm around yours, tugging you in the direction of her friends.

She looked back to make sure you both weren’t being followed. To your relief, you weren’t.

“My name is Yuqi. You can say you know me.” She spoke in a hushed voice in case any more creeps lingered.

Yuqi smiled at you, allowing you to sit with her friends.

Chapter 9/25 + bonus chapter

In the next few months, Yuqi and Soyeon trained everyday at the gym. Sometimes, they would also train overtime. Yuqi's wound got better over time and Soyeon's skills and strength improved. The pair had grown closer, currently best of friends. Yuqi was also good friends with Minnie, they are people who can talk about what they went through together. Miyeon still has a crush on Minnie. The crime scene was cleaned up, the evidence was all kept in a box and its all in Minnie's office. She still has no idea who did it. Soojin and Shuhua have a great relationship, they are now officially living in the place Shuhua rented while Yuqi got kicked out. Yuqi went to the other apartment and lives with Soyeon. They also bought some weights and a punching bag for them to train. Nothing quite interesting happened during this period of time.

4 months later

Soyeon's POV

Yuqi and I were at the gym in X Company doing sprints and weights. Someone stepped into the space from the lift lobby. He was wearing a clean-pressed suit so I suppose he was someone that was here to assess if we were ready. Over the last 4 months no one was chosen. Yuqi was faking her level of expertise in the area so that she could stay with me. She made sure that we would appear that we had to same level of expertise. All the people who were present in the gym lined up in a straight line.

"Hello recruits. Today will be the day of the assessment to see if you are ready for mission." The man said in his raspy voice. "Yuqi, Soyeon, Conner and Bruce are the next people who have the possibility of moving out of this room today and go to the mission centre." It was the first time in 4 months that this guy had ever called anyone by their name.

Yuqi and I are spilt into separate groups to compete with the other trainees or recruits as the man had called us. Yuqi and I won all of them and the both of us were the last ones standing. The man nodded his head and said, "Yuqi and Soyeon have passed the test and are officially members that can participate in our activities. Congratulations." Then, he turned his head and headed out of the gym.

Yuqi and I were shocked, we did not expect that we would pass the assessment today. We looked at each other disbelievingly. "Okay, other than Yuqi and Soyeon, the rest of you better get back to training." Samantha said. "Congratulations. There will be a small welcoming party tonight at the function room on level 9. Please do come along since ya'll are the focus of the night. Ya'll better get back home and change your clothes. You are not going to a party with sweatshirts, sweatpants and running shoes." She smiled.

"The driver will pick the 2 of you up at 7pm tonight. This is his number. Please tell him your address. Now, for the first time, you are dismissed from training extra early." She continued. Yuqi and I went to our lockers to clean out our things. Finally, after 4 months of gruelling training, we have completed the assessment. 

Yuqi's POV

I did not talk to Soyeon at all on our way back. I was too preoccupied by my thoughts. Yes, I was glad that we had passed the assessment, I could finally work my way to the information that I need. However, I was afraid that Soyeon would get hurt. She still does not know the potential dangers that she may face in the future. Even I do not know what might happen. The risks are limitless. I took out my phone and sent a text to Minnie.

Great. I thought bitterly. I have another thing to worry about now. After becoming official member, the both of us had to go on missions. There may be times when we would be separated. I know what kind of missions there may be. I'm not sure if she is able to take it. I had been there and been through it. 

I looked to the side. Soyeon had fallen asleep on the leather seats of the luxurious car. I have a feeling that tonight might be a test for us. A final challenge to see if we past the test. When we arrived at our apartment, Soyeon suggested that we went to the shops nearby and see if there were any nice dresses that we could wear to the party tonight. We walked around the neighbourhood. Soyeon really liked the dress that she had seen on display.

I feel like I would like to see her in such a dress, I am sure she would look stunning. The tailor at the shop made some adjustments to the dress such that the hem of the dress was just above her ankles. While Soyeon was getting her dress tailored, I looked around the shop for a smart suit. The entire idea of the suit was supposed to be easy for me to defend myself in case they wanted to test us. I also wanted to find a suit with many pockets so it can keep some weapons. 

I chose a smart white and checkered suit. After shopping, we went back to our apartment. When we reached home, Soyeon went to her room and closed the door. I had no idea what she was doing but I went to the sofa and sat down. At 5pm, I took a shower and blew my hair dry. I put on simple makeup and did my hair into a lose bun with some hair on each side of my face.

6:55pm

Soyeon came out of her room. I turned to look at her. She looked stunning. The dress that she wore perfectly cupped her breasts. Her hair was styled into long, wavy locks. I was stunned by her. I stared at her. She looked so pretty in her clothes. I felt my heart fluttering. I realised that my heart has been beating a lot faster than usual when I am around Soyeon. I tried to figure out why but I gave up quickly. She was too stunning

Soyeon's POV

When I walked out of my room, I saw Yuqi standing in the living room in her suit. I still did not understand why would she choose a suit for the occasion but I am glad she did. She looks so fine. Her clothes seemed like as if they were made for her. Her legs looked so long. We stared at each other for what felt like an eternity. She broke eye contact first. "Shall we wait for the car downstairs?" She asked, blushing slightly. She looks cute when she is blushing. 

I went to the door and wore my heels, it made me look considerably taller. When we got to the roadside, the driver had just reached. We got onto the car and travelled to X Company.
