This Week In BL
April 2021 Part 5
Being a highly subjective assessment of one tiny corner of the interwebs.
Ongoing Series - Thai
Close Friend Ep 2 (JaFirst) - First is a cat. No actually a cat. It was WEIRD. Cute, but creeping towards beastiality. It reminded me of that strange series out of China (@heretherebedork says Youth in the Breeze). The most amusing thing to me was that the cat used Thai formal linguistic register when of course cats would use informal rude guu mueng with EVERYONE. No cat would use pom. Don’t be ridiculous, Thailand.
Second Chance Ep 5 - still invested, things progressed for all 3 couples, in one direction or another. They cuties. I love them. Carry on.
Y-Destiny Ep 5 - the “virgin scoreboard” is gonna make the seme real hard to redeem with this pairing. If they bother. This might be a life lesson episode. What does it remind me of? Oh yes. Kids. *SHUDDER* Point of interest: did you notice Team uses ha with Mon? What a pushy flirt.
Lovely Writer Ep 10 - honestly I just love it when Poppy shows up in anything, why is he such a delightful screen presence? (Gene’s brother) Sorry, distracted. What happened in this one? Oh, ya know, stuff and things. Family drama. (It is just me or have they been giving us some long ass episodes lately?) Obligatory beach trip activated. (Result = dumb probability mathematics jokes.) Next week it looks like we have Keeping Actor’s Closeted 101. You know the Casting Couch? This is the Casting Closet.
Fish Upon The Sky Ep 4 - early stage confession, how fun. It’s not unprecedented it just usually means we are in 4 act structure, not 3, which means Fish might go more serious than I thought. Honestly? I’m losing interest mostly because I’ve gone from mild annoyance to active dislike of Pi. Happened to me with Tine too. They better redeem this obtuse tsundere uke soon or he’s not tsundere at all he’s just a jackwit.
Brothers Ep 13 fin - a kiss and the family finds out about the not-so-brotherly brothers, drama, graduation, THE END. My side-dish happy heart made thumps over Q + delivery boy, I’m sad they got so little screen time. My babies KhunKaow did get a tiny coming out sequence as such. I’m seriously considering doing myself a bootleg of just the KhunKaow plot, but that means I’d have to rewatch the whole darn series and I can’t STAND the idea. Which should give you insight into how not good this show it. Very NOT good. Must we get a season 2? Please stop now, Line.
Ongoing Series - Not Thai
HIStory 4: Close To You (Taiwan) Ep 7 - Muren is the cutest peanut and anyone who says otherwise can fight me, although they probably have to go through Licheng first. I was NOT invested in these two at the beginning, but as a couple? They own my soul. The other storyline is still the dumpster fire that I can’t decide to roast marshmallows over (knowing they’ll get tinged with eu de trash) or flee from in horror clutching my pearls and my nose. H4 continues to provide the quality psyche torture I’ve come to expect from this franchise. *sarcastic thumbs up* *** A word on seeing Boxiang show up (side dish from H3:MODC). It was an unexpected pleasure, I loved his pairing (May/December is a winner for me *glares at Method*) but I do think it was a bone from the franchise telling us that we are never getting that spin-off or reboot that people yearn for. However, how AWESOME that Licheng has someone to go to and ask about topping properly. Otherwise he’s sure to have screwed it up. (Pun intended.)
Papa & Daddy (Tailwan) Ep 1-2 - this came out of nowhere and is ADORABLE. Applies a ton of BL tropes (cheek kiss, his closet, B&W stripes, drag baby around, boop) but what IS it? More slice of gay domesticity than romance. Like 2019′s Kinou Nani Tabeta? or currently airing Close Friend. I enjoy this style, very wholesome, but I’m not sure what to call it. (Bonus points for cutie lesbians.) A bit weird to have a kid with your partner and STILL not be out to your parents. I hope they aren’t going to throw in a break up for dramatic effect.
My Lascivious Boss (Vietnam) Ep 4 - I’m really enjoying this series. It’s unabashedly queer, although there’s some problematic stuff lurking under the wig. How it ends is gonna dictate if they handled this stylishly. But hot damn the leads ZING on screen together and their crackling prank-flirting is a joy to watch.
Word of Honor (China) Ep 31-33 - moving into the home stretch. Big rescue and the band is back together (presumably for the final slaughter). Then a death! *this is my shocked face* Did I tear up? Of course I did. 4 act structure is designed for maximum pathos during the final 1/4. Did we all faint from the symbolism of the love token hair stick being gently thrust into Ah Xu’s bun? Sure we did. All that and sill I’m flagging. This is a long-arse show. Save me, Korea, with your iItsy bitsy teenie weenie...
Nobleman Ryu’s Wedding (Korea) Ep 5-6 - I am getting such strong 12th Night vibes from this. Tae Hyung is now brigadier of BL’s historical himbo brigade. (To be deployed whenever you are in need of poetry or a cut sleeve.) This show is all ridiculous charm and I LOVE it. Although, five seconds of Lee Sang is not enough Lee Sang. I had to immediately rewatch Wish You.
Gossip
Nitiman gave us an actor intro BTS teaser.
Kang In Soo (AKA Kyang Insoo) posted a cute behind the photo shoot of Nobleman Ryu’s Wedding plus a silly interview with Jang Eui Soo on his YouTube channel (you should subscribe, it’s a fun channel, his fitness regime is both insane and inspiring).
My Engineer 2 dropped a couch interview with the boys but it feels like one that was filmed a while ago (oh and no subs).
STARTING SOON: Nitiman, Love Area, Top Secret Together, Be Loved in House, & I Promised You The Moon
Nitiman (Thai) May 7, One 31. University set, moons, engineering students, enemies to lovers, adapted. - Looks to be a solid 2 Moons knock off, I’m in.
Love Area (Thai) May 8, AIS Play, 10 eps total. Restaurant set, stars Pak Chavitpong (the only good thing about Cupid Coach) and the OST is sung by Jeff Satur (Ingredients). - It’s boys in love revolving around food = my kryptonite, try to stop me from watching this probable trash.
Top Secret Together (Thai) May 14, Line TV. 5 couples, one IRL (Newyear from I Am Your King), story arcs revolve around secrets. - I’m getting fatigued by these multi-couple sampler pack dramas, but I’ll try it for Newyear’s sake.
Be Loved in House: I Do (Taiwan YES!) May 20, Viki. Office set, relationships prohibited at work by a new boss, one of the employees is determined to figure out why. Grumpy/tsundere pairing so loads of drama. - I am so flipping excited for this one. A 4th BL series from Taiwan in less than a year? That’s unprecedented. GO BABY ISLAND GO!
I Promised You the Moon (Thai) May 27, Line TV. Follow up to I Told Sunset About You with the boys now at university. - I won’t be watching this as I have yet to finish season 1.
Possibly Gameboys season 2. - Rumors are all over the place right now on this.
Next Week Looks Like This:
Some shows may be listed later than actual air date for International accessibility reasons.

Thank you for the tag, @bad-buddy-owns-my-ass and @tipsyjaehyun!!! <3
1. Your all-time favourite BL and why: There’s no way I could ever pick between Bad Buddy and Manner Of Death. I could ramble on about both of these for days but simply put: Bad Buddy is the ultimate love story and Manner Of Death is a murder mystery BL. Need I say more?
2. The one BL that scarred you for life: Okay wait, there’s a story behind this one! When I started watching BLs and GLs, I researched and scoured blogs so that I could build up a massive watchlist and just binge through them. But like. I didn’t want spoilers. So I never checked warnings or reviews or plot summaries. Point is that I ended up watching Tharntype with no idea what I was going into and being absolutely horrified (I think I made it to… Ep 2 or 3?). This is probably funny for me to say, considering the number of BLs I’ve watched and how dub con is kind of an unfortunate staple of the genre, but I despise noncon and dub con with a passion and nothing will get me to DNF a show faster. (Also, I know Baker Boys isn’t a BL but Punn’s cake nightmares really creeped me out too. And the child sexual harassment in Ep 1. Anyway.)
3. Is there any BL that made you feel very single? Bad Buddy 1000%. It’s the way their relationship was built on such a strong foundation of friendship and devotion, the way they would oppose the world to be together, the way they never even consider breaking up, the way they’re a team and face every obstacle together. Just. Patpran. They made me feel single before they were even dating. And as if they weren’t perfect enough, Inkpa is the final nail in the coffin. Bad Buddy knows how to do romance best, no two ways about it.
4. If you could change one thing from a bl, which one would it be? Oh man, I can only pick one thing from one show? Gaya Sa Pelikula’s ending (I made a point to only watch up to the point where they got together and everything was good and happy, because I heard that it didn’t have a happy ending and I’m a big sucker 👍🏻), the entire second half of 2Gether, I would make Ace less horrible at the beginning of #My Day, I would get rid of Bohn and Duen (the only thing I didn’t like about My Engineer) or drastically alter their personalities and dynamic, Soo Hee’s entire arc in Light On Me, any BL that ever had a character force their ex to date them by threatening to kill themselves (not naming names but I’ve seen two now and that’s a big personal trigger and it’s never handled well), etc etc. I could go on. Name any BL I’ve watched, even Bad Buddy or Manner of Death, and I guarantee I can come up with a list of minimum five things that I would change. Picking just one thing in one show is impossible. Have I uhh… have I ever mentioned that I’m ridiculously nitpicky?
5. That one bl you detest (don’t hold back): Like I said, I can’t stand Tharntype. (No offence to any stans out there, you do you.)
6. Your top 5: Manner of Death, Bad Buddy, A Tale of a Thousand Stars, Cherry Magic, History 3: Trapped. Not Me and Keita Hatsukoi might make the list though, once I finish them.
7. That trashy bl that you lowkey like: 2Gether. It’s one of my favourites, a bit of a guilty pleasure, but it’s also kind of a mess.
8. Your favorite Korean bl (it’s important we know): Definitely Light On Me.
9. But also your top 3 for kbls: Light On Me… err, maybe To My Star and My Sweet Dear? (Sorry, I tend to prefer Thai BLs. Except Korea, for some reason, makes the better cooking dramas. *glares at Bite Me*)
10. Season 2? Which one? My Engineer! I think it’s the only BL drama that’s ever had me desperate for a second season (GLs and Kdramas, on the other hand…). Luckily a second season is supposedly in the works! (Unluckily they had to recast some of the actors. But you win some, you lose some, right? I just want Ramking canon.)
11. A bunch of dramas will air soon. Which ones are you most excited for? Oh! So many! For BLs, there’s Something In My Room (aired three days ago), Physical Therapy (tomorrow!), Enchanté (next Friday), My Ride (Jan 27), Cutie Pie (Feb 12), Kinnporsche (supposedly April), Fahlanruk (TBD), and Dear Doctor (TBD). I’m most excited for Kinnporsche (I’m absolute trash for crime shows), really hoping it lives up to the hype and the trailers! For GLs, there’s Gap The Series, The Girlfriend Planner, Girl Love Girlfriend, and Reverse 4 You, none of which have scheduled air dates yet (as far as I’m aware)!
12. Tag them! Am I allowed to say @everyone because I don’t want anyone to feel excluded? Just assume that if you see this, I’m personally inviting you to participate! ❤️
#thank you for tagging me! I love tag games!#misa tag#hmm… that feels kinda boring#how about:#misa tag! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*✲゚*。⋆#bl dramas#tag#tag games

Helllu! I see you've been watching lots of chinese/korean dramas. Can you rec your favs?
Hello!! Of course I can n.n (sorry it took so long to answer, I kept making changes to this aha). I’ve decided to list my current top 3 favourites, because apparently I’ve watched a lot.
Okay guys, here goes.
Chinese dramas:
So lately the past year or so of my life has been consumed by cdrams (and recently kdramas by extension), but here are some of my faves that I’ve watched.
The Untamed
Anyone who follows my blog knows my crazy obsession with this amazing show. It’s based off of a novel called the Grandmaster of demonic cultivation (has an anime with the same name– s2 is slowly being released right now). The story takes place in a world ruled by the evil Wen Sect. Wei Ying and Lan Zhan cross paths and become good friends (hardcore bromance). Wei Ying tries to save innocent Wen from death, and in the end, he lost almost everything. After going missing for 16 years, the pair find each other again and try to find the real villain.
It’s full of action, mystery, adventure, heart ache, supernatural ghouls, longing, whumping, and an amazingly attractive cast that should honestly be illegal. If you’re looking for a show with lots of emotional pain that will swallow you whole, then you’re in the right place.
P/s. the 2 mains sing their love song which makes it that much more beautiful/painful.
Ps/s. IT ALSO JUST GOT PUT ONTO NETFLIX GUYS. No excuses not to binge it, and when you do, dm me so we can fangirl together.
Guardian
Another drama based off of a novel, with gay bros, longing, and adventure. Shen Wei is an immortal (kind of), and currently a university professor that has been waiting centuries for his lover/friend (Yunlan) to repay him for what he gave Shen Wei and will do anything for him. Zhao Yunlan is the head of the SID, a department that solves mysteries and crimes with supernatural origins. Together they help save others, solve mysteries, and save the world from Shen Wei’s evil twin brother.
All I can say about this one is that if you haven’t seen it, you’re seriously missing out (but warning, the cgi is horrible lmao). It was also super amazing seeing Zhu Yilong in a main role like this. The king of micro-expression seriously doesn’t let us down.
Legend of Fuyao
This show had consumed my soul for about a full month and a half until I finished it. When I finished watching, it left me sad that it was over. Got to be honest, the ending is still a bit confusing, but is still worth the watch. This is an epic love story about Fuyao, an orphan looking for adventure, but gets caught in a fight between kingdoms and destiny. Along the way, she meets the Crown Prince and they fall in love, but destiny has their fates already decided. They are on the opposite sides of good and evil and need to decide whether one lives and the other dies. It’s got amazing fight scenes and a really attractive male lead (his first lead in a show I believe). Super amazing acting, because let’s be real, any show with Yang Mi is an automatically good show. She’s just too amazing.
Other honourable mentions: Granting you a dreamlike life, Eternal Love, Untouchable Lovers, the Rise of Phoenixes, Detective L– were amazing shows I could rewatch until I die.
Side note: I am super excited for Xiao Zhan’s Jade Dynasty. So hopefully that movie will be available to us soon.
Korean Dramas:
All right guys. I’ve only recently started watching korean shows about half a year ago or so, so I haven’t seen too many, but the ones I have seen I’ve fallen into a deep love with that keeps me going lol.
My Country: The New Age (ongoing)
This show only has 8 episodes so far and I can’t tell you all how amazing this show is. Words can literally not even describe how much it’s consuming every waking second of my life right now. I think the main reason is Seon ho, who started off as someone you respect, but is constantly doing bad shit. He tries to salvage good things from the wrecks he keeps making, but who knows how long that will last. He is ambiguous and slowly turning into a villain. He is slowly turning into the things he wants to destroy and it’s heartbreaking. My heart aches for him and Hwi all the damn time. I just want them to be bff again and stop fighting, but of course this won’t happen. This show has political turmoil and a country at war with a royal family and council who just wants to watch the world burn. Of course, this means manipulating everyone to get what they want, but both Hwi and SH are trying to play their own game, accidentally putting themselves against each other constantly. Watch for heart break, friendship (sometimes), and very attractive male leads aha.
Also, the music is 1000000 thumbs up. All I can say is PLEASE WATCH IT AND FREAK OUT WITH ME.
It’s on netflix, so guys, no excuse lol (DM me to fangirl with me
Black
I don’t want to spoil too much about this show because it’s honestly an experience. It’s about a girl who can see when people are going to die because of the shadows that follow them. She meets a childhood friend, who has a secret, and he asks her to help him solve crimes and protect people from dying, but of course he has his own plans. Get ready for a funny and badass female lead guys.
It’s the first korean drama I watched and will always be one of my faves. It’s an incredible murder-mystery story with more layers than a damn onion. It’ll keep you on your toes and the ending makes me cri evry tiem.
Arthdal Chronicles
At first I thought this show was kind of weird, but an episode in and I was hooked. This show is difficult to explain, but it starts with a war between Arth and the Neanthal. 2 legendary babies get separated and live in opposite parts of the country. This show is hard to describe but it follows the 3 mains, Eunsom, Tanya, and Saya (and Tagon/ Taelha lol) and their fight through tragedy, and sometimes hell on Arth (lol – like hell on earth – am I funny yet). It’s all about a fight for power and revenge among the tribes. Every single character in this show has a different reason, but they all want power to get revenge, basically.
The fantasy aspect of this show and the different ‘species’ are incredible. It does get very political, but the fun of it is all the plotting, and how the characters fix their plans that don’t work out. Half way through I kept screaming at my TV for the mains (Tanya/Saya specifically) to just fkking talk to each other ughhh. Also, Saya will be my favourite unstable boy forever.
It has 18 episodes on netflix so far, but just signed up for 2 more seasons (thank god because if they stopped at 18 eps I’d pull a Rosa Diaz and kill everyone and then myself -.-”). I can’t wait for it to come back. GIVE ME MORE CONTENT.
Other honourable mentions: Hwarang, Rookie Historian Goo Hae-Ryung (not finished it yet, which is why it’s not up in my top 3), Missing 9, W Two worlds, Warrior Baek Dong Soo.
Thanks for reading and requesting!
I am always looking for new shows to watch, so send me recs too. I find my favourite ones are the historical dramas. But let me knoww!

I continue to love Flower of Evil! There’s a lot going on in Episode 4, so let’s dive in. Oh, and I’ll be alternating between using Hyun Soo and Hee Sung, so apologies in advance if it confuses anyone. While the majority of the episode is focused on the chase for Hyun Soo, we still manage to get some crumbs about the Baek family. Me, every time with their scenes:
I keep saying this, but I’m so curious about this storyline!! What happened that the parents felt the need to have someone impersonate their son while he’s in a coma? I’m leaning more towards them being responsible for whatever happened… Unless their son did something so awful, they decided to cover it up thoroughly and completely in order not to lose face. Though Baek Man Woo (the father) seemed to treat his son with care. Whatever happened, they went to great lengths to conceal their secret. They even have a mute maid, though I don’t know how much that would discourage her from “talking” if/when push comes to shove later. We see that original!Hee Sung was quite the math whiz. So the only concrete fact we have about him (aside from the shady family) is that he’s extremely smart. Now is he good or bad… I initially thought we had a Queen Yoo situation on our hands with Kong Mi Ja (the mother), though apparently that’s not the case. I was genuinely shocked when she apologized, and THEN at the end admitted to the house being too big for two people, so she invited him to come over and eat some time. (Does that invitation extend to his wife and daughter?) I would not have expected this from the parents we see in the first episode. I love it though. This scene gave the mom a bit more depth, instead of her being another variation of the Evil Matriarch trope. For a moment, there seemed to be a kind of softening in the tension of this scene. Though of course she also majorly freaked when she found out Ji Won is on the case. I definitely feel like it’s the guilt and the stress of their situation regarding being found out, which then led to these anxiety problems. I am living for these flashbacks of Hee Sung and Ji Won’s past. And young Hee Sung is so clueless, please😭😂 I mean, it’s understandable why, but still. Kudos to Ji Won for not backing down. Their past versions are so cute, and the set-up could’ve easily been its own drama. I’d love to know what Ji Won thinks is going on when Hee Sung stares at an empty space, and then gets all guarded and freaked out. But later when Hee Sung says Ji Won scares his father - MY HEART😭 Even if she doesn’t know it, she protects him. “Why do you like me? Why?” I actually would also like to know this, lol. Hopefully we get an answer in the next flashback about why she fell for him. But I also would not blame her if it’s primarily because of his pretty face. xP Either way, she clearly sees something in him that he does not. I really like Ji Won’s team, but I’m always going back and forth on her sunbae, lolll. He’s funny but can also be a bit irritating. So sometimes I like him, sometimes I don’t. Which I think is how he’s purposefully written, haha. Her hoobae is always great though. Finally, we’re introduced to Hyun Soo’s sister. I was kinda ???? when she touched her phone with all that fake blood on her hands. She didn’t even ask her assistant for a towel or wipes… ANYWAYS lmao, I didn’t really get any ~shady vibes from her, but there wasn’t much to go on just yet. I do think she’s lonely and she misses her brother. When Ji Won was commenting on Hyun Soo’s life, and he’s right there with his head on her lap😢 It would be interesting to see her start to realize/uncover the truth of some things about Hyun Soo before she fully realizes he’s her husband. I’m very curious as to how the writer is planning this reveal. “Was my husband always this handsome?” Yes. But seriously, why are they so adorable. I just want them to be happy😭 Me, with the earlier eps: I mean, he’s possibly irredeemable, it’s cool if he doesn’t have a happy ending— Drama as it reveals more of his character:
Hee Sung faking sadness was so funny because we know he dgaf about his would-be murderer. I do feel bad for the wife, but she did end up giving Hee Sung a huge clue. I certainly didn’t expect the culprit to be the taxi driver! When the driver was telling his story to JW’s sunbae previously, I do remember thinking it was odd that the killer would share that they’re in the same profession as their father. If you’re a killer, why would you be dropping personal details like that to a possible witness later? I’m sorry, what is this coincidence of him being caught on camera in the photo background of someone visiting from his hometown???? I’ll roll with it, but wow. lol Moo Jin trying to sniff out the story of how Hyun Soo obtained his new identity with the Baek family… I was warming up to him, but then he tried to record HS. Thankfully, HS caught on, but if Moo Jin backstabs Hyun Soo/Hee Sung later ISTG… I wonder if he’ll change his tune (because he is so not giving up) when he meets up with Do Hae Soo again. There’s definitely something going on with Do Min Seok’s death. I doubt he committed suicide, so I wonder if HS or his sister did the deed. The chase scene with Hee Sung and Ji Won was amazing, and I could only think about how these spouses are hella in shape. And that fight - well, more like struggle - in the building! HS deserved that kick to the nuts lol. But the way he instinctively jumped forward to save Ji Won from the falling tools… 😭 He loves her GDI. I wonder if he realizes this though. He was suspiciously quiet when Moo Jin was asking if he really didn’t have any feelings for her. HS never directly answers this when it’s brought up. Everyone in the know asks if affection bloomed because of Eun Ha’s birth, but the flashbacks clearly show that is not the case. Also, this thought came to me in earlier episodes too, like when he snooped in Moo Jin’s place, but Hee Sung is leaving his fingerprints EVERYWHERE. Please wear gloves, I am begging😭 “We should’ve continued that exorcism!” “What does Do Hyun Soo have against this town anyway?” YOU ALREADY ANSWERED YOUR OWN QUESTION, PLEASE SHUT UP. The phone call with Eun Ha may be my favorite part of the episode, lmao. She’s way too cute. I was the grandma trying not to laugh in the background. Like Eun Ha was so devastated that he wasn’t around. It’s precious how much she loves and misses her dad, which is something that Hyun Soo must marvel at. Before Ji Won, he never experienced that. (Maybe with Hae Soo, but we still don’t know enough to gauge their relationship.) But that ending!! I’m dying to know what’s going on in Ji Won’s head when she sees this piece of evidence (Hyun Soo, please be smarter omfg). Like I don’t know if her mind will immediately jump to HS being the one she was chasing (even if she’d be right lolll). First, she’ll wonder how tf the watch got there and then go through different options before then landing on him. I don’t even know if she’ll get the chance to make that leap because from the preview, we know the taxi driver is up to no good and Ji Won realizes her husband is in danger. Hee Sung/Hyun Soo was injured from the falling tools earlier, and I think that’ll partially be the reason why the taxi driver gets the upper hand and subdues him. I’M SO EXCITED FOR NEXT WEEK!!! I’ve been hyped for the water scene since the teasers, and we’re already getting it. But I’m also so confused because there are still 12 episodes left, lollll. I thought this would be a mid-point scenario. And we’ve already seen a lot of the material that was in the trailer. Not everything, but a good chunk. I really love how things are progressing. Nothing’s dragging (to me). I am a little worried about the back half as that is where dramas tend to do or die. I’ll guess the situation with the Baek family will drive the 2nd half, and that the real son will wake in the middle eps or later. The writer hasn’t given me any reason to doubt them so far. I’m still along for the ride, and I hope the next episode is as promising as it looks. My Twitter liveblog for Ep4: twitter.com/krysyuy/status/1291852350747901952

🦄 awhh kid, ive been busy with school (it's my last sem, i graduate in may) so ive been busy. i will say cm makes good bg noise to do hw to.
this is me being a lil shit and cuz im not in the fandom but like penelope? best character overall, except for the garcia thing. it was a haha joke that aged poorly. they could've just hired a white latina or changed her name but then again they also made elle half-cuban when the actor is white. then tara. then morgan. luke. matt. jj. emily. blake. at least hotch is better than rossi ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ bc rossi is racist and i know we skirt around that issue but like dude... you can't pee on a black classmate and then deny you're racist (and i know he isn't malicious and they try to fix with him marrying a black husband but like. cm loves to just ignore all their problems with their character. actually.. hotch is only better bc he barely has a personality so i can just pretend he doesn't have racist tendencies.. but also he did grow up in the south... and we live in a society..)
fuck i forgot about spencer... he's annoying ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ maybe white nerdboy with no personality was revolutionary back when it was airing but man.. it's so overdone nowadays and as a woc.. i don't find the appeal. also like, penelope does the whole genius thing better and she isn't even half as annoying. but still better than rossi!
also id like to clarify that my ranking above is strictly just in-show content like obvs rossi is written better in fanfics just like about every character is written better
also can i just say. what is up with cm's intense hatred of women??? like haley died and and emily sort of died and maeve died and strauss died. like.. wtf?? beth disappears and we only find out in a throwaway line after an entire ep was dedicated to her growing relationship with hotch! also apparently jessica doesn't have a life outside of jack's nanny.
also like.. food for thought but it does make me hmm 🤔 that the writing got so much worst and ppl stopped watching cm after it got so much more diverse. and that it suddenly became the reid show after cm got so much diverse. just putting it out there ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Oh I love being called kid it makes me feel like there’s more time!
Ooh exciting!! Graduation!!
Honestly, the way I agree with all of this. I understand that Criminal Minds came out in a “different time” but some of the stunts they pulled...
See, as an Asian person, the racism is different. So I don’t know what would have been better: if they had Rossi admit what he did and dealt with the fall-out or if they just hadn’t written it in at all.
Oh I know. It’s in moments like that where I’m glad they didn’t give Hotch a personality- although it would’ve been nice to see him and Emily talk when she realised why he didn’t trust her- because then I can carry on believing he’s a half decent person.
I’m pretty neutral towards canon Spencer. I’m like: cool you’re a genius and you know all this stuff. I like Penny a lot more though and there are times where I’m like: Writers please this is a crime show have character development but I do not need their entire childhood to be shown...
Yeah, I think somewhere along the line the writers gave up on the characters, which in some ways makes sense because crime show, but like... the crimes did not get more interesting or unique either soo... if I want good writing I turn to fics.
But even then, there’s so much demonising of Hotch and unnecessary Hotch and Morgan bashing that I’m like: UGGHHHH.
GENUINELY! There was no reason for Haley to be treated like crap for leaving a marriage she was unhappy in and her death reeked of misogyny. I think Emily dying was to do with an issue with the network or something like that... Maeve dying had something to do with Spencer’s actor apparently... Strauss death was unnecessary as well! And it felt very tasteless too.
Okay so Beth. I liked Beth. Beth was good. I haven’t gotten to the episode where they break up but I know it happens. My issue is this: Hotch didn’t need to get into a relationship after Haley to prove he had moved on, because it’s almost like they’re saying Jessica cannot act as a mother to Jack and also that he won’t be complete
THIS IS THE THING! I have given up on good Muslim representation so now I’m like: Okay let me find things that represent other minorities well. And I really want to watch the later seasons. Like I really want to know all about Tara and Matt and Luke because they seem really cool.
However. I’m watching season 10 really slowly, just because I am, and I know that Reid goes to prison in season 12 because of Cat Adams- who seems like a really annoying unsub I’m so sorry- so I’m like: Hmm.... am I going to fast forward all of that because I really don’t care?? Probably!

The 30 Day Tumblr Challenge
We are at it again bois.
Day 3 - My Favourite TV Show/Series
Okay so I don’t know why I’m excited to tell you my favourite shows. I definitely have a few of my favourites, also cartoon shows and anime if that counts lol
Okay starting off with:
1. OnMyBlock
You guys don’t understand how obsessed I am with this show!! This is one of my #1 favourites and now S2 is coming in a few days like holy shiit, feels like we been waiting forever. Watching the teaser and seeing Ruby opening his eyes at the end at me jumping 😂. I mean if they were thinking of not putting Ruby in S2 and he died then I ain’t watching S2. But can I say that Spooky is is fine as hell 😍 But anyway I recommend you guys go watch it, it’s da best, if you into that teen drama.
2. The Office
I love the Office, I always wanted to watch it from seeing memes on insta or Facebook all the time and now I finally got the chance too. It’s so funny and you just get every joke and just laugh. Also one good thing too is every episode is so entertaining and you don’t get bored. So if you wanting to find a new tv show to watch then come to this one. Another thing is that I love Michael’s personality, just trying to be the cool boss and even tho some episodes he can be annoying but then his very caring at the same time. Its cute how he finds everyone like a second family to him. Also can never get enough of Jim’s pranks on Dwight.
3. Black Mirror
Gotta say this is a pretty interesting tv series, I thought it would be one of those shows that just drag on but literally every episode is different and has its own story. I like how some of the episodes try to connect to the real world and what we do in our society. Also the fancy technology in this series sis pretty impressive but same time don’t want that type of technology being invented now lol I would have to say one of my favourite episode would have to be S4 Ep 4 - Hang the DJ. I was so confused at first and thinking the couple were trapped in some sort of game or world but at the end when it was them in a simulation for a actually a dating app, just blew my mind. That it was the process of the dating app to find the perfect match was really impressive. Also there’s a few keys points on how we work our dating life in the real world. But I was also happy there was a happy ending not like it is with Black Mirror. Another one of my favourite was S3 Ep1 - Nosedive just because I could relate to how we get sucked in the social media world and not in the real world. I more based on the you know you always wanting so many followers on social media and all these likes on your photos from people who you hardly hangout. Just seeing people or friends more higher then you, you kind of get that feeling you wish you were like that. Another thing too is now a days we see heaps and heaaappsss of fitness models that really hit you with ‘I want a body like that’ It kind of puts your self esteem down and trying to love your own body. I mean yes some models do help and motivate you to workout and all that but you gotta put in a lot of work and I’m just too lazy 😂
3. The End of the F***ing World
It’s a very unique show I must say. Even though James intention was to murder Alyssa in the first place but I still love the relationship between the two even though it was an unusual connection. But James came to fall in love with Alyssa eventually. If it weren’t for that creepy dude he murdered then we probably would of had a different story.
Okay now I’m getting into my favourite cartoon/anime shows
1. Tokyo Ghoul
One of my favourite anime series ever. Love a bit of action and gore which is what this series showed. Note that I’m not into the romantic animes, it kinda bores me. But honestly S3 was complete shit and was so confusing. Didn’t even connect with the last 2 seasons. But the other 2 seasons was 👌🏾 Noice.
2. Berserk
Listen if you want a bit of more gore and action then you should watch this. Love this show, literally finished it in a day and a half 😅. Guts is the main man and is probably my favourite character. But just a warning the ending is kinda fucked up and dark but I literally kept watching in confusion because it just escalated so quickly. I even read a few articles on what the ending meant but I’m still confused but overall still love the show. Was sad that everyone died suddenly expect Casca as one of the remake movies showed she survived but was obviously traumatised and lost her mind. Then had a demon baby which was fucked.
3. Rick & Morty
Gotta love this show man. Never knew I would like a show like this and understand all the humor 😂
4. Regular Show, Adventure Time & Amazing world of Gumball
If you don’t know what’s these shows are then GTFO! Jks but seriously these are pretty much the best cartoon shows ever, especially on Cartoon Network. Literally watch these shows growing up but I had a little sister that would watch these shows with me and our dad didn’t like it because of the crude humor and so on. So I haven’t watch these in awhile and going back to them is so nostalgic. It’s sad that these 3 shows had to end. I mean obviously a show gotta end somewhere but still. It won’t be the same :(
5. Love Death + Robots
I got to say this is a very interesting series. The animation was amazing but I was gobsmacked at the CGI which looked soooo realistic in some episodes. Literally finished it in a day. I mean yes it is a bit graphic but overall it was funny, dark and imaginative. But I do understand the sexual violence towards women in the series but at the end they got their revenge. But to say Sonnies Edge was probably my favourite episode and hope we can get a series happening or I’ll be disappointed haha.
——————————————————————————
Okayy I guess I’m done. Idk why I was so excited to talk about this topic for some reason. But tbh I’m not really a huge tv show fan as I mentioned before sometimes shows drag on and it gets really boring and I just move on to the next show. I mean these shows above are probably the only ones I enjoy the most out of every other show.
A good example of a show that drags on is Riverdale, literally. I hate this show so much and idk how people are still watching it. First season was really good then it just got worst. I mean is it just me or Veronica is really annoying and being with Archie is even worse.
Also another show that pissed me off was Shameless! ughhh really ticked me off when Debby eventually had the baby and the way she acts so stubborn literally fucked me right off. You know when you watch a show and it just doesn’t go the way it should and then you just stop watching. Also Game of Thrones, I’m that percent of people that hasn’t watch this shit at all. I recommend if you haven’t watch this show then don’t start because literally every episode is an hour and there’s like what, 20 odd episodes in the 6S. So good luck if you gonna start. But I did watch the first 2 episodes of S1 but it’s kinda weird with the brother sister thing lol I should just make a post of all the shows I hate and why 😂
But anywayyy sorry if this was soo long. Didn’t think it would be and it sucked because I couldn’t put more gifs in haha But if your feeling bored then recommended watching a few of these bad boys I have put down but if you have any that don’t drag on and are actually worth watching and not boring. Then please tell because I don’t want to start watching a show and then get disappointed during it.
Alright then see you guys tomorrow for Day 4

EP Human
EP Human focuses on my human side and this is the first chapter. A compilation of my thoughts on paper.
Euphoric Distinction:
Chapter 1: Anxiety
“An abnormal and overwhelming sense of apprehension and fear often marked by physical signs (such as tension, sweating, and increased pulse rate), by doubt concerning the reality and nature of the threat, and by self-doubt about one's capacity to cope with it”
I didn't cry for a long time because I never understood what was going on with my body. I didn't eat for a long time because I never any desire for anything in front of me. I didn't look back because there was something staring at me for a long time. Did God mean to punish me or was it a fate? I believed in God for the curses he placed on my soul.
Holidays:
I’m stubborn and quiet as I could be. I hate troubling people with my problems, issues come and go but my health is important. It’s crippling to see everybody around you when you’re alone. No family, no friends and nothing you could call your own. I know this feeling; I want to cry but nothing is coming out; I want to fix my life but nothing is working out. Hey, if something goes wrong, one hit and it’s all done. Those whispers made me believe in anything I did no matter how fucked up I was. If something doesn’t go as planned I can kill myself, right? It’ll end and no one would care.
10 Pills:
My demons, I fought them for a long time but at certain times those demons gave me perspective on life. It was an experience I would never forget, and I would never be able to feel that rush again. The feeling when I drew closer to death. My breath started to get heavier, and my heart was beating fast. I was trapped in a vessel which was probably my room, but it was made of glass. There was powder in my hand, remnants of a pill I just took but it was not enough to shake the noise in my head. Another pill went into my mouth and I still felt nothing, why am I crying and how can I fix this? Another pill, a hazy feeling clouded my mind and another question popped up; should I take another one? I took another pill, I was smiling and crying at the same time; I felt like my body was finally at peace. Anti-depressants, anti-life, anti-me.
New Beginnings:
You're not who you think you are. You've been doing so well with school and classmates, but at the end of the day, you close yourself. "You look so good today", "You're so smart", "You're so talented" You don’t care… you just want to feel something. You keep writing but nothing is coming out. You can’t feel a single thing. You don't want to be anything… Max credit load in college just so you don't think about your thoughts. It ended, 4 out 4? What does it mean? Ah, you're thinking again because you have nothing to do? You're hurting now.
Love Part A:
I’ve been disconnected for so long. I cannot see what’s in front of me; they’re all colorless anyways. I’ve been talking with so many people lately. Their light fades after a while, they call me emotionless, dependable, logical, a machine all after a while. My true colors? Do I have any? I do not lie…thus, I have nothing to say I guess. Do you see her? Who's she? A pirate? Soo excited? She is euphoric. "You're interesting," I typed. "I'm strange, to be honest." She replied. I smiled... I was happy. At work, people asked me about the break, so I thought of her. Life is strange but who was she? I went back home and I waited, but she didn't talk to me again. You wait and wait … and wait. Nothing. I try to approach her but I felt scared so I stopped at “Hi.”
Love Part B:
Two weeks later, my boss told me to decide if I wanted to take a break from work or quit. My heart was heavy because my job was the only thing keeping me distracted. I’m graduating so I had to make the choice. He said he’d wait for my answer. At night, I looked for her… Can I talk to her? I did. I’m quiet but so she was this time. Short answers, I can’t read her feelings; I can’t hold a conversation. What does it mean to be euphoric? Music speaks to me; I hope it speaks to her. I try but I’m sick, don’t fall asleep, don’t die yet. My lungs are inflamed, my stomach is bleeding… don't die yet. "Oh yeah, you're the small kid," she said. Small? Heh.
Love Part Anxiety:
Does she like me? No. I cannot remember the last time someone liked me. My friends think I’m weird. Weird? Graphic art? Suicide paintings? I stopped trying to kill myself years ago, I’m just showing my feelings but I guess I should suppress them I skip time; I fall asleep; I wake up just to see if you talked. I’m weird like that. “Hi.” Who are you? Why did your attitude change? You’re quieter and I don’t hate it, but I’m being random because I’m terrified. I can’t express myself. What are we? What are we doing? Do I want you to talk? I want you to be yourself. I’m confused, but I’m always confused and I get lost like a pet cat that ran away from the house. What does she? What do I see? These questions, should I stop asking them? This is my anxiety. This euphoria is making me paranoid, but I want to go through it. “I have a crush on you. And it’s scaring me.” She said. Of course, I’m scared too but if we are future bound I guess that means something. I like you, but I’m scared of being me. It haunts my mind; It hurts my mind, but I’ll always be myself with you against my…anxiety.
HM.

Meaningless thoughts about Ruler: Master of the Mask...
I am not going to analyze or summarize this drama. I just want to write down something I can remember about this drama.
Ruler: Master of the Mask, the first time I heard of this drama was on 30 Dec 2016. I looked forward to watching this drama so much because of (1) Yoo Seung Ho (2) Sageuk (3) Yoo Seung Ho + Sageuk.
As I remember, there was no post about this drama on tumblr at that time? That was the first time I added a new post to a new tag so I did not know should I use the full name to tag since the name is quite long (and MBC changed the offical name of this drama to The Emperor: Owner of the Mask now but we still using Ruler: Master of the Mask :P)
I waited for this drama for four months and then the drama came out on 10 May 2017 finally! I was so excited! Yoo Seung Ho is just so cute and handsome and his acting is so great. I think audience still remember the adorable Crown Prince in the first four episodes.
I am sorry but I involuntarily think of this scene…
(Handsome guy should not walk in the street.)
That sweet Crown Prince is really attractive. However, this drama was good in the beginning but boring in the middle. I guess most of the people who dropped this drama were from about Ep 8? I can understand. Yoo Seung Ho is the only reason for me to keep watching this drama. And then I found that the friendship between commoner Lee Sun and Crown Prince was the other reason for me to watch. I do not care about the other characters much except Lee Sun. I wondered how the relationship between him and the Crown Prince would change.
I do love this scene. The Crown Prince tried to protect Lee Sun (actually he himself was the target of those assassins) and you can see Lee Sun trusted the Crown Prince.
Five years later, Lee Sun realized the Crown Prince still alive. I was very happy because the Crown Prince knew Lee Sun was suffering. HE SHOULD KNOW IT EARLIER.
“If it were not Sun, Dae Mok would have found who I was.”
“I feel so bad for Sun. If it were not for me, he would be with his family right now. Sun was on his knees, begging Dae Mok for his life. I cannot ignore him.”
- Ep18
YES YES YES!!! Please save him!
“When I was in Donggung, my eunuch was also called Chun Soo. I have hoped that he would be alive. I hoped for it every day.”
- EP 19
OH YES! They met each other finally!! I love that Lee Sun did not get angry after realizing the Crown Prince still alive. I mean if I were he, I would be very angry because the Crown Prince did not return and leave me in the terrible palace. Maybe I am too small-minded.
I do not understand why he did not tell the Crown Prince that how he came through the past five years. I think if you miss your friend very much, you will be curious about the life of your friend and want to share your life with him/her immediately. The Crown Prince knew nothing about the poisoning until Lee Sun lost the poppy pill. It was too late. When Lee Sun blamed the Crown Prince came back too late, I was just so happy. Lee Sun really had this right. He should tell the Crown Prince what happened to him.
It was touching when the Crown Prince saved Lee Sun’s life. However, the writers pushed Lee Sun to turn into a bad character… Why? Lee Sun was outstanding in the beginning. Why the writer destroyed this setting? I really hope that Lee Sun can accompany the Crown Prince till the end. Their friendship was just so precious!!! But the writers wanted him to be a bad ass. This character was special. Although he was born into a poor family, he is smart, love learning and having a dream. He helped the Crown Prince just because he believed his friend can be a good King even though he tortured by the King. But then such a great person got crazy because of a woman.
Tacky.
“Do you want this mask? Take it. Do you want the throne? I will give it to you. I will give you everything that I can. However, not Ga Eun. I cannot give you Ga Eun.”
- E26
“I believed that it was friendship. I believed that you would be a king for the subjects unlike the late King. That is why I took your mask and participated in the initiation. It is because I believed Joseon under your rule would be different. However, I was wrong. You put the mask on me due to your fear of Dae Mok. You fled and left me behind for your own survival. You used me as bait for Dae Mok. Perhaps you thought you could kill me anytime I become useless.”
“That is not true, Sun. I did not return sooner because…”
“I do not want your excuses. This will be our last meeting. Now you should run away. This is my last token of friendship that I can offer. If by chance you get out of here alive, do not ever come back. If you do, then I shall kill you myself.”
- Ep28
This broke my heart. LEE SUN!! Do not hurt my Crown Prince! Stop it!!!!
And then Lee Sun died suddenly after so many stupid things happened. I think it is not necessary to kill Lee Sun. I was very angry. I am not complaining about his death because I knew he may die in the end. However, I just think it was so cruel that Lee Sun was ready to start a normal life and he can go home finally but he died before enjoying his time with family and friends. His lovely sister was waiting for him.
This part is great. Kim So Hyun did so well. But the actors and their excellent acting were not the most attractive things for me - the greenhouse is soooo beautiful at night!
And I have a question related to this part.
Ga Eun dropped the necklace in the greenhouse in Ep28.
Then what is this in Ep33? Did I miss something?
Actually I have some opinions about the female characters but it is not so important. I still think that Ga Eun has so many problems but I agree that she is the right person to be the Queen though she did something difficult for me to understand. For example, she went to palace but had no idea about what should she do and how to do. However, she is not useless. She is brave (but she should have a plan or think deeply before she acts!). And about Hwa Gun, I have talked about her before. I am not going to talk about the ladies here because there are many discussions about them already. I wish Ga Eun knows the story about Hwa Gun. She should know there was a woman helped her man so much and save his live so many times.
*** *** *** *** *** ***
I have something really want to say. I LOVE THAT YEO WOON CAME HERE in Ep10! Wow! Welcome back! (OK please ignore this)
Thank you so much.

hey thanks for making the lookout gifs!! you know i was thinking that suji and do han are like two sides of the same coin... they both want revenge but have duelling personalities. i think i really noticed it on this ep cause u got to see the human side of do han like he seemed really scared when she was bleeding out i dont think he realized how deep this mission of his was and how badly the ppl involved can get hurt from it. im excited to see suji confront him its gonna be so good :D
Thank you so much!
I haven’t actually talked about Do Han on this blog, but I..don’t like him, anon. I also am wanting for Soo Ji to confront him and get her revenge, but I don’t want her near him for any other purpose than that. My biggest problem with his character is how he just goes and does stuff, and we don’t get any real explanation as to what his true intentions are. That might’ve been fun or intriguing for the first few episodes (it wasn’t for me), but then his “great plan” lead to the death of Soo Ji’s daughter, and it has since deprived even more people. I can’t for the life of me find one reason to like the dude. He keeps manipulating the people around him, he’s keeping the team brought together in the dark, and he doesn’t see he is in the wrong until someone literally dies or is severely injured.
As much as I love watching Lookout, it’s not for Do Han. It is true that both Soo Ji and Do Han are looking for revenge, but their methods differ immensely. And while Soo Ji’s method was rather violent and harsh in the beginning, it never harmed anyone innocent. My latter point is the biggest contrast between the two characters. They’re just not the same type of individuals.
#reply#anonymous#lookout#i'm sorry for the late reply!!#i just haven't been feeling the best and didn't want to give a halfhearted response :')

Appearing before The Dramacourt: While You Were Sleeping Eps 3 and 4
***If this is your first time browsing The Drama Files, please read The Rules section first for our reviewing and rating system***
***Disclaimer***: This analysis based on Canadian law. This is also NOT LEGAL ADVICE for anyone and this drama is FICTIONAL.
Issues:
Whether there is some serious meta going on in these episodes.
Whether Jae Chan’s rationale for not wanting to believe Hong Joo’s ability to see the future is logical.
Whether a defense lawyer can force a prosecutor to go with a lesser charge.
Whether there is a distinction between Injury and Assault.
Whether defense lawyers can fudge medical reports and “get rid” of evidence.
Whether this episode highlights some of the issues faced by victims of domestic violence.
Whether it is acceptable to have workplace religious practices.
The Rule(s):
Totally. And even in this version, poor Shin Jae Ha doesn’t seem to be getting the girl.
Yes. It is logical.
No. That’s not really how prosecution works.
In Canadian law, the distinction is between Battery and Assault.
No. This means you have violated your ethical and professional responsibility as a lawyer and that you should be disbarred at the very least.
Absolutely. Battered Women’s Syndrome is a very real thing.
No. Unless your workplace by definition is some religious thing.
Analysis:
RedRosette J: This episode had a lot going on and we have a lot to talk about but first thing is first: Suzy. Honey. Take an acting class. Your acting has not improved since Dream High. Seriously. I’m honestly having trouble connecting with this character. (Also, my bad, I thought this drama was about people seeing visions of future deaths, but Jubiemon corrected me. It’s about people seeing visions of the future). I don’t understand her quirky/perky obnoxious Candy vibe. I really really wanted a more nuanced character. Someone with some depth and feeling and emotion that is more than just forced fake crying. Seriously. I also don’t really feel, at this point, a connection between Lee Jong Suk and Suzy. Sorry guys. It falls flat for me. If the super obnoxious OST and the intense close ups weren’t there to shove it in my face that this was supposed to be some fated love story, I wouldn’t buy it. Sorry.
Jubiemon J: I found this episode to still be a good setup for what’s to come. However, I do have a few areas that I didn’t quite enjoy so much. I also don’t like the character type they’ve set out for Suzy. This character doesn’t suit her and she hasn’t been able to fit well with this quirky character. (This is an aside but if you want to see a quirky personality, go look at one of the clips of “I Live Alone” with Sunghoon. He’s definitely 4D in a cool way.) Aside from her, though, I also felt like Jae Chan’s younger brother looks far too old to be a high school student. (Sorry pal.) I wished that they had placed him as a university student instead.
Having trouble finding the chemistry guys
Developing crushes like…
Serious talk
Being lowkey creepy
Cool art though
Being creepy on the subway like…
RedRosette J: On other notes, Lee Sang Yeob is doing a fabulous job as a sleazeball lawyer Yoo Bom who you just have to hate. He’s so irritating to watch and makes you want to just be like ugh stop. Which is great because that’s the character. The introduction of the second female lead (the prosecutor woman) also fell a bit flat for me. I don’t know anything about the actress but there was nothing really special about her introduction.
Jubiemon J: I agree so much! Lee Sang Yeob has been great as the evil criminal defense lawyer. I get so irritated when I see him! I kind of wish that Jae Chan was less upfront about things and had more EQ, but I guess that’s part of his journey of learning to act smarter and it does make a good contrast between Yoo Bum’s and Jae Chan’s personalities.
Oh my goodness! I completely treated the 2nd female lead as a minor, minor side character. My bad.
Don’t be fooled by this face
Did nothing for the plot
Breaking up with a piece of shit guy like…
RedRosette J: I also keep loving the interactions between the two brothers and I’m curious to see how Jae Chan and Hong Joo stop Seung Won’s (yes, that is Shin Jae Ha’s character’s name. I knew there had to be reason why we weren’t told his name thus far!) impending fact. I am also curious to see how fate ties up loose ends in terms of the policeman who didn’t die (It’s all very Final Destination-ish). The side characters in the office are really awesome and I really really hope they don’t under utilize these actors who have so much potential for comedy.
When you really don’t want to wake up for work
Breakfast with the fam
When your sketch neighbour tries to be BFFs
You’re cute too. Who are you?
Sassing your boss like…
Spreading office gossip like…
Hearing office gossip like…
RedRosette J: I continue to really really like the plot though and the way it is written. I like that the writers don’t infantilize the viewers and keep the information going consistently. I really liked that Hong Joo’s past warnings to her dad and her backstory was being shown concurrently with the events of the present and Jae Chan’s future visions. It means that your brain is actively working while watching trying to figure out how the pieces fit. It’s been awhile since a drama has been able to do that for me, so I really appreciate that. One thing I’m not too excited about is the childhood trope. Really? You had to use the classic “they met when they were kids at a funeral home” trope to derive the future dream connection? Ehhh….I hope the writers sell me on a stellar reason for why they did this or I’m going to be super disappointed.
Jubiemon J: I did like the flashbacks mixed with Jae Chan’s dreams too. That was an interesting approach. I totally agree about that . . . fated to meet someone since childhood . . . Overused. Honestly I haven’t heard of any stories in my life where someone realized that he or she met his/her partner a long, long time ago. The most would be something like . . . oh they have some random mutual friend.
Issue 1: Whether there is some serious meta going on in these episodes
RedRosette J: I have two words for you guys: Page Turner. OMG. Kim So Hyun as an angry pianist and Shin Jae Ha with a closeted crush on her? Really guys? You’re going to do this to us again? Last time, Ji Soo got the girl, this time, I think external forces (and the fact that Kim So Hyun is only doing this as a special appearance) is going to keep poor Shin Jae Ha from getting the girl. I’m so not cool with this. He’s such a cutie patootie. Like total puppy vibes. Please let him have the girl. But real talk: this story line, although we could do with less of Kim So Hyun yelling at poor Shin Jae Ha because well, see above sentence. But either way, the meta was real folks.
Jubiemon J: I’m honestly tired of the angsty kid. Sure, I understand that you’re super frustrated about your family’s situation, but do you have to push away the nicest guy ever? Kim So Hyun’s character was just super rude here . . . It reminded me of Mean Girls. Twisted Regina George vibes with some crazy fam stuff going on.
RedRosette J Aside: For those of you who haven’t seen Page Turner, go watch it right now. Its three episodes of cuteness that you won’t regret.
I still doubt he gets her
Issue 2: Whether Jae Chan’s rationale for not wanting to believe Hong Joo’s ability to see the future is logical
RedRosette J: I think what Jae Chan was saying to Hong Joo was totally rational and totally logical. Jae Chan says he doesn’t want to believe her even if it’s true because that means he will have to save everyone and when he cant he will be super torn up about it and he doesn’t think that he can handle it. I think it is totally reasonable to refuse to take on a responsibility that you are sure that you can’t handle. I think it’s irresponsible to take on something and then fall apart when you can’t do it. So yes, I agree with his line of reasoning. Whether this works out in practice and reality is a different story.
Jubiemon J: I actually felt kind of annoyed that he was being a hypocrite. He did save her . . . so why wouldn’t he believe in her ability to see the future? I felt like his reasoning was poor because he just didn’t have the guts to face the guilt or the courage to try to change anything. However, he did have the guts to save Hong Joo so . . . what is this sudden turn of events? I didn’t like it. I’m in the camp of . . . if you’re being given responsibility, you just take it and do it. It’s just like at work. You still have to do the stuff you’re assigned even if you don’t like the work. I also see this as a scenario of a doctor. If the patient comes to see you with some illness, you don’t just ignore and turn them away. You try to find a cure even if you know it might be futile.
Trying to rationalize things
When you’re irrational and you know it
Poor Seung Won!
Issue 3: Whether a defense lawyer can force a prosecutor to go with a lesser charge
RedRosette J: Uhhhh no…..that’s not really how it works. A defense lawyer can’t just walk into the prosecutor’s office and be like “oh yea btw, these are medical records which show assault, so go with an assault charge….” No. The prosecution works independent of the defense lawyers. The only time they are in contact with each other is during pre-trial conferences and to request disclosure (the documents that the prosecution has against the person being charged). It is a gross miscarriage of justice if the defense gets to walk in and make demands about what charges to lay on a suspect. That’s not how the law works and I’m pretty sure that regardless of whether it’s Canada or anywhere else, that’s how it’s supposed to work. Of course, reality could be very different when you taking into consideration things like corruption and bribery etc.
Nope. Not how it works.
Issue 4: Whether there is a distinction between Injury and Assault
RedRosette J: In Canada, there is a distinction between something called Battery and Assault. Assault generally deals with the threat of force and the person looking to act on it. Battery is when the victim actually sustains physical injuries from said violent threat. I think what might have happened here is that it probably got lost in translation and when they said “Injury” it probably translates to Battery or the equivalent of that. Kim So Hyun’s character raises an interesting point, where she says that in the case of assault, charges are laid only if the victim agrees to press said charges. This would explain why Yoo Bom was trying to get the lesser assault charge which would mean that they could coerce the victim into not pressing charges. But generally, there is a distinction and there weren’t wrong in clarifying that.
Jubiemon J: What Redrosette said is in regards to the area of torts. In Canada, battery falls under the area of torts, which is civil law. If that were the case, then prosecutors would not be involved. It’d be the mom vs the dad and damages could be awarded. Also, battery is easier to fulfil than you would think–just has to be intentional, harmful/offensive, direct, force/contact of a person/body/purse of another. I remember our professor saying that even if you touch someone’s shoulder, that could potentially be battery.
Canada’s Criminal Code doesn’t list battery as a crime. Instead, the Code has an offense of assault and assault causing bodily harm. Canada’s Criminal Code lists here what assault would be:
265(1) A person commits an assault when
(a) without the consent of another person, he applies force intentionally to that other person, directly or indirectly;
(b) he attempts or threatens, by an act or a gesture, to apply force to another person, if he has, or causes that other person to believe on reasonable grounds that he has, present ability to effect his purpose; or
(c) while openly wearing or carrying a weapon or an imitation thereof, he accosts or impedes another person or begs.
Different countries characterize their charges differently, so in the US, there is criminal battery. I did a quick look at the South Korean Penal Code and I think this would be one of the potential charges that the dad could face.
CHAPTER XXV CRIMES OF INFLICTING BODILY INJURY AND VIOLENCE
Article 257 (Inflicting Bodily Injury on Other or on Lineal Ascendant) (1) A person who inflicts a bodily injury upon another shall be punished by imprisonment for not more than seven years or suspension of qualifications for not more than ten years or by a fine not exceeding ten million won. (2) When the crime as referred in paragraph (1) is committed on a lineal ascendant of the offender or of his spouse, one shall be punished by imprisonment for not more than ten years or a fine not exceeding fifteen million won. (3) Attempts to commit the crimes of the preceding two paragraphs shall be punished.
Pretty sure this is Battery at this point
Issue 5: Whether defense lawyers can fudge medical reports and “get rid” of evidence.
RedRosette J: Uhhh…..MOST DEFINITELY NOT. That is not a defense lawyer’s job. You don’t “clean up your client’s messes” in that way. This would be a blatant violation of the rules of professional conduct and the ethics of being a lawyer. It could effectively mean being disbarred and even prosecution and jail time. Defense lawyers exist to ensure that everyone has access to the law and to make sure that accused persons are given a fair right to be heard having access to all the information and rules pertaining to their case. This is a far cry from a defense lawyer who goes and commits more crimes to get their client out of jail. WTF. No.
Jubiemon J: No! He also used to be a prosecutor too and from Jae Chan’s comments, he was already acting dirty back then. I remember glancing at the Penal Code for South Korea and there was a section for charges against corrupt public officials, so . . .
You could be disbarred bro
Issue 6: Whether this episode highlights some of the issues faced by victims of domestic violence
RedRosette J: I think we discussed this in a previous review too, but yes, this episode highlights some crucial things about victims of domestic violence. It is usually categorized as Battered Women’s Syndrome where the women are too afraid of the abuse to leave or stand up to the abuser. It’s a form of physical and psychological abuse. Kim So Hyun’s character says that her mother is more afraid of her dad than the law when the scene shows the mother agreeing to drop the charges against the husband. I think it’s important to realize that domestic violence is a very real and live issue and that it’s a good thing that dramas highlight these things.
Fear is a very real thing
Issue 7: Whether it is acceptable to have workplace religious practices
RedRosette J: Generally, workplaces should be secular so as not to alienate or exclude co-workers. I’m not really a proponent of religion in the workplace or anywhere involving communal stuff because I think that religion is deeply personal and should be observed in your own time. However, it makes a difference, if your workplace be definition is a religious place or organization or community. If everyone has the ability to participate that is fine, in my view. In this case, Jae Chan, not having a religion, was isolated from his co-workers who were praying at lunch. If one does have a religious requirement that has to be carried out in a communal place, it should then be done with respect to those who don’t and not in such blatantly alienating ways. So, in general, I don’t think that workplaces should have religious practices.
Jubiemon J: I also don’t think workplaces should force people to have religious practices, but I do remember that in South Korea, many citizens are Christians. Then again, I doubt that’d mean that religious practices would be obligatory at work. Somehow I’m reminded of that Canadian case regarding a Charter right and how there was some praying that would always happen before this meeting and there was a Charter violation (I think–putting that there b/c the Charter is definitely one of my weaker areas in law…).
Not cool.
Conclusion: Appeal Allowed.
Rating: 3 = MM. Okay. Fine. (Suzy please get some acting tips and step up your game girl)

Appearing before the Dramacourt: Hwarang: Poet Warrior Youth Eps 19 and 20 (we’re doing a combo post for the finale because we are just so done with this drama!)
***If this is your first time browsing The Drama Files, please read The Rules section first for our reviewing and rating system***
Issues:
Whether Jwi Dwi and Sun Woo had a bromance at all.
Whether the Hwarang was actually a cameo in EP 19.
Whether Sun Woo’s Dad’s motivation for leaving him is believable.
Whether the whole (non) fight for the throne was believable.
The Rule(s):
No, I don’t think so! At least not to the extent of Soo Ho and Ban Ryu.
Probably
No!
Not really.
Application:
RedRosette J: Oh thank god this is over now. Jubiemon and I are actually so so thankful that this drama is over. As expected the wrap up was done very very poorly with some seriously sloppy writing and production. Episode 19 was basically a waste of time. Even if it hadn’t been there and you had just watched episode 20, it would have made sense. They were basically talking about the same things as they had in the last five episodes. To sum it up in one sentence, it’s basically everyone freaking out that Ji Dwi was the real King. Ok? Don’t waste your time watching it. Episode 20 was an even bigger shit show. I feel like because the writing was so sloppy, a lot of the characters had their issues resolved off screen for them to get to the end. Ban Ryu’s personal dilemmas with his father were resolved off screen, the characters mourning Han Sung’s death was resolved off screen, Dan Se becoming an official Hwarang was done off screen. What is this? Anyone can write dramas like this. Ugh. Even in the final few moments, the wrap up was so so sloppy. I was not excited that Ji Dwi forgave his mother so quickly and they never even really discussed what wrong she had done him. I was so mad that Ban Ryu and Soo Yeon’s story never really got their “happy ending” and like no one cares about Aro so whatever.
Jubiemon J: I think this drama is one of those rare one where you feel like nothing significant has happened throughout the whole drama. At the end of the day, I don’t really remember many highlights. The only highlights were some bromance between Banryu and Sooho and Banryu’s romantic relationship with Aro’s friend. Episode 19 . . . I can barely remember what that was about; that’s how bad it was. Episode 20 was super, super rushed to get to some happy ending. The sudden twist for Sunwoo to be King and then him giving it up all in one episode? Such a waste of time. Everything was just so, so rushed for ep 20!
Yes. Everyone knows this.
Yes, yes, please move on already.
Clothes maketh a man
Why leave us hanging? -.-
When did this happen?
Issue 1: Whether Jwi Dwi and Sun Woo had a bromance at all.
RedRosette J: Not really. They tried to become friends but the whole “are you king or not?” situation got in the way and I feel like they never really overcame that, unlike Soo Ho and Ban Ryu who actually did of lot of positive work towards overcoming their problems. I found it difficult to get on board their bromance, especially since it had taken a back seat in the last few episodes. So, no I don’t think they had a bromance. They might have had a friendship-adjacent situation, but definitely not a bromance.
Jubiemon J: No. I really don’t think so. I felt like Banryu and Soo Ho had a deeper friendship and even Yeowool and Hansung had a more believable one. They bickered here and there and then Ji Dwi was kind of nice to Sunwoo because Ji Dwi liked Aro. Then they got into more arguments and what? Nothing much at all. (I have to say for the last episode when Sunwoo cut off Ji Dwi’s bracelet, Ji Dwi was sobbing as if he had been dumped by a girlfriend. Actually I feel like he wasn’t that upset when he realized Aro liked Sunwoo. His crying was kind of funny in this case.)
Not really a bromance
Issue 2: Whether the Hwarang was actually a cameo in EP 19
RedRosette J: So remember how this drama was about the Hwarang boys? Yea in the past few episodes this drama became the “Let’s talk about what it means to be King” drama and the Hwarang took a literal back seat. No I mean literally. They must have had about 2 or 3 minutes of the Hwarang guys in this episode. Not to mention, Minho probably had some scheduling issues, so he was basically non-existent in these two episodes and we never really got to see him and Ban Ryu fully makeup. It’s sad really that the writers got so caught up discussing Kingship that they missed out on important screen time for character development with the amazing supporting cast. What a waste.
Jubiemon J: Yes. We barely saw the other boys and their issues were mostly resolved off screen. Ugh.
Only in it as a grapevine
Issue 3: Whether Sun Woo’s Dad’s motivation for leaving him is believable
RedRosette J: This is just one of those situations where you sit there for a good ten minutes being all “Huh?” Yea. His justification for leaving Sun Woo made absolutely no sense. Like why couldn’t you give the kid a name? It’s not like dumbass Queen who was too busy knowingly drinking poisoned tea would have started a witch hunt to figure out what this kid’s name was! Not to mention, I don’t even think that she knew the kid was alive. They basically cut him out of his dead mother in the physician’s hut. I mean come on! Then he goes on to say that he did it because he didn’t want him to go through the horrible life of a Royal and literally turns around and goes “Yea but now you have to.” What? What was the point of putting the kid through hell and leaving him nameless if you were just going to do to the kid what would have happened had he lived with you? This makes absolutely no sense at all. They should have just not included this birth secret. -_-
Jubiemon J: I always find it hilarious how Sunwoo’s biological father could just parade around the palace and eat great food while the Queen is super shocked how he could get in. The security at the palace . . . so, so questionable. I never really understood why his dad even have to leave when he wasn’t killed the first time he got into the palace. So stupid.
Dumbest reason why. Ugh.
Issue 4: Whether the whole (non) fight for the throne was believable
RedRosette J: I just feel like this whole conflict came out of nowhere. All of sudden, everyone hates Ji Dwi and I just didn’t like how they resolved the problem. He kidnapped Aro, to keep her safe from Ban Ryu’s dad and the story went nowhere. It all felt so stagnant and Sun Woo’s move to #TeamJiDwi was never really explained. I mean, yea he was all for changing the kingdom and what not but I just felt like if they had at least tried to show the character’s progression towards that in the last few episodes it might have been better rather than having it in the last 15 minutes of the show. I just fell flat and seemed like an excuse to end the drama all dramatically. Whatever. I’m just glad its over. I wish I could ask for all these hours I wasted on this drama back……
Jubiemon J: That flashback to explain how Sunwoo decided that Ji Dwi should be King was super confusing. In the beginning we saw that Sunwoo cut off Ji Dwi’s bracelet which led to Ji Dwi sobbing his heart out. Okay . . . then the flashback showed Sunwoo agreeing that he’d support Ji Dwi as King. So that made me wonder why Ji Dwi was even crying at all? At the very end of the drama, the two are “friends”. Okay. So all that Ji Dwi crying really doesn’t make sense! Just what the heck is going on?
Uhhh okayyy…
She gave up? Just like that?
Cool robes brah
This happened.
As did this.
Finally.
Conclusion: Appeal Dismissed.
Rating: 2 = Yell At Everyone Involved (All of them needed to get their act together. This was an epic pre-production fail)
