Haigakura Episode 4 Review - How They Met

It took four episodes to find out why Ichiyo became a Kashi and what his motives are. His motives are to save his cat dad Hakugou who has been chosen by the previous Queen Mother of the West as a sacrificial pillar. That’s why he became a kashi in order to find a powerful being that can replace him. He also hates the Queen Mother of the West because of this, but ironically, his friend Hakushurin has been chosen as the next Queen Mother which shocked him when finding this out from Sanu.

This episode is also an origin story of how Ichiyo and Tenko met. Tenko was once a dangerous being known as Souryu who long has been sealed away in the depths of a forest. Ichiyo encounters him and is able to form a pact with him. Though, there is something clearly special about Ichiyo with the way he has wings on his neck and sings a lot differently than he does in the present. Could it be that the neck bandages suppress his singing voice?

Tenko in the past was a bit aloof and also amnesiac. Despite that, he was willing to accept Ichiyo and serve him. However, he seems to have forgotten his name. Tenko from the past was gorgeous. He sort of gives Inuyasha vibes from how he was encountered to the long white hair. On top of that, spending time with the Kashi Ministry Head had gotten Tenko to become the red-haired one we see today. How did the change happen? How did this red Tenko come to be? Split personality? Dormant state?

Other than that, there are a LOT of characters introduced in this episode and I can’t keep up! We have Sonto, the head of the Kashi Ministry, voiced by Satoshi Hino. He seems like a silly character with how he tells Ichiyo to not do this and that, but he does it himself. Then there’s Gaishi who looks like he could be Hiki’s twin, voiced by Tatsumaru Tachibana. Other than them, there’s also a guy in green with a scar on his face. I forgot his name, but he’s the one sort of responsible for changing Tenko from white to red. The Eight Immortals have shown up too. All of their designs are interesting. I do wonder if they’re good or bad. Though, the two people shown post-credit, the gas mask and the one in the bunny suit, reek of bad news.

It was nice seeing the origin story behind how Ichiyo met Tenko, but I wish this was shown earlier and not in Episode 4. I do wonder what’s going to happen next. What are your thoughts on this episode?

OMG the rock thing with Princesse and Sontos reminds of the time a boys school where I live let 3 pigs onto school grounds as a joke (like the seniors) and they labeled them 1,2 & 4 and the school was trying to find the 3rd pig all day, which never existed lol.

I'd heard that before but upon further research, nah, he hated everyone equally. In fact, one of his siblings was a lesbian. What he didn't like was being hit on by dudes after his Playgirl spread. He'd be doing signings and dudes would come up to him, slip him their number and he'd be like "i'm heterosexual, no thanks" and they'd get agressive about it. He was always kind and nice to them and still autographed their magazine, but just wasn't gay and didnt appreciate them being agressive w him about it. He did write a song parodying the whole experience called "I like Goils."

Beware of learning about him on tiktok. People are quick to call someone a homophobe/racist etc without full knowledge of a situation. If you do some research, you'll find that he was a great person who helped others without asking anything in return, and did sonto his detriment. He loved animals, his family and his friends. He was a servant of women and an amazing bassist. He also loved God and was brilliantly smart.

Haigakura Episode 7 Review - Tone Death

First, I’m sorry that the review for Haigakura is out late. Second, the show is on indefinite hiatus for now, hence why I took my sweet time delaying this review. I hope that you’re understanding of this and won’t hark on me for being late.

This episode is mainly continuing off where the previous episode had left off of. Ichiyo is now in the middle of the Hiki vs Gaishi fight, but he is unarmed. Fortunately, Ryusei has a spell that can allow a Kashi to summon one of his servants. Ichiyo decides to summon Kaka as Tenko is unwell. The monster that was unleashed is also permeating a stench that is causing corpses to become zombies and it’s too much for Kaka to handle.

I feel like Ryusei is the MVP of this part of the fight because he’s equipped with all these spells that is super helpful to Ichiyo. He’s the one that used the pleasant aroma spell that allowed Ichiyo to actually sing decently. Though, it was hilarious once the effect wore off and Ichiyo started singing horribly again to the point that it even affected Hiki and Gaishi that they stopped fighting and changed back into their human forms. Tone deafness is a dangerous weapon! I did like that the tone did shift from serious to comedic without it being too jarring.

The fight between Sonto and Rabbit Mask was interesting to say. I actually really liked Sonto’s abilities where he uses his beads to trap his opponent and then use different formations to summon beams of light to wreck him. Rabbit Mask got destroyed so badly, but was able to escape due to Sanu throwing a shadow bomb. Is he working with them or is he going to work with them?

Though, I do worry that the episode ended with Ryu finding Rabbit Mask collapsed. Since he’s probably watching over Tenko, it’s NOT a good idea to have them in the same room. I feel like Rabbit Mask will do something nefarious. I also have some speculations that Tenko could be one of the Four Pillars. Having Rabbit Mask around is definitely not good news. Also, why isn’t Ichiyo being sent back to his servants?

What are your thoughts on how this episode went down? I’ll see you guys for the next episode review when it comes out. If there is a manga, maybe I’ll go read it while I wait. Where can I read it?
