Charles Beck - Small Creek

This is a collective experience of many small creeks I have puttered around. Trees, leaves, gravel next to water. When young it was a delight to fool around the water edges and look for small fish, frogs, and the occasional turtle. I still like doing just that, wandering by water edge and soaking up life.

General Mariano Vallejo, born in 1807 was a prominent Californio. He started his military career in 1824, as a cadet, and rose through the ranks. He played a part in the transition of California from Mexico to the United States. He also founded the California town of Sonoma.

Charles Beck - Late Summer, White Barn

After one passes Valley Ford, heading north on Hwy One, there is a cluster of ranch buildings to the left of the road. I've been on this road a million times and am struck by the brilliant roof on this barn in the afternoon sun. A metal roof that reflects the light brilliantly.

Somehow I notice it more in the late summer early fall than in spring when all is green. Maybe it's the earth colors of browns and tans that make the barn stand out to my eye.
