For a spot of good/funny news, I talked to my auntie (who is a retired, childless, PhD holding, straight blue ticket voting cat lady and all around delight) today and she told me that her and her circle of friends (a large group of fellow retired, straight blue ticket voting PhD holding, cat ladies of Pennsylvania) have been even more mobilized by vance's stupid comments, and have been organizing to volunteer for Harris and do their best to make PA blue!
This is of course great news, but have we considered that JD Vance may actually be a diabolical deep-cover agent for the Democrats? Just look what he managed to accomplish in one week:

Keep talking, chucklefuck. You're doing great!

💫 for the song meme. han/leia because I'm in love with how you write them ALLL the time!
I wanna read your mind to know just what I've got in this new thing I've found
Brilliant disguise - Bruce Springsteen
A/N: thank you! 🥺 sorry it took me so long 😅 based on this prompt
***********
For a split second after the words, she feels out of space and time. Like she has stepped out of the life she's in, and into the life of someone whose biggest problem at the moment is the subtle rejection of the guy she's been hooking up with.
Of course, that's not who she is, and that's so far down her list of problems, it's barely one at all.
'Okay,' she says, a little too brightly because, really, it's fine. 'I understand. I'll see you around?'
She pivots on her heel without waiting for an answer and straightens her vest, doing her best not to look like she's running away but rather aiming for a dignified retreat.
'Hey no, I didn't—wait!' she hears, and his hand wraps over her shoulder before she gets one foot out of the cabin.
'Leia,' he says when she stops and turns back to look at him. There's something about her name coming out of his lips like that, not tumbling out in the so-called throes of passion but said with intent, with his eyes on hers and a look she can't quite decipher, that shakes something loose inside of her.
'I wasn't kickin' you out,' Han says, the corners of his eyes crinkling as if he's trying to puzzle her out.
'You said we didn't have to have sex,' she tells him, in her least annoyed voice—and she is annoyed, because he could at least have told her before she did the trek through the glacial Echo Base corridors. 'What did you want me to hang back for, a friendly game of Dejarik?'
Han blinks. 'Well, if you want...'
She rolls her eyes and begins to turn away again because her patience isn't limitless, but he stops her once more.
'Hang on! I meant it's okay if you just wanted a warm place to sleep tonight,' he says. That was what she told him when she showed up, that she came because her room was freezing. Even for Hoth standards. Then he made a joke about how she was just using him for his body heat. Then she started kissing him and sticking her hands under his shirt. And then he stopped her.
'It ain't a... an expectation, y'know?' he adds now. 'The sex. 'S fine with me if we just, uh, hang out sometimes. If you want.'
Leia stares at him, uncomprehending. No, that's not true. She knows what he's proposing. They are, crudely put, fuck buddies, and they're also friends, and she hangs out plenty more with him than she does with any other rebel even when they're not having sex, but... But. That’s not what he means. There are lines they haven’t crossed, that she said she wouldn’t cross, because this can’t become that kind of relationship. She ought to say no. No thank you, I’m fine with the way things are, it is what it is.
What she says is, ‘Okay, hotshot.’
The smile Han gives her isn’t like the glare of a dozen suns or anything as poetic as that. It’s small and his teeth aren’t even showing. It’s barely more than a diagonal, dimpling the corner of his mouth.
And it’s everything.
'For the record,' Leia says, tamping down an emotion that is even more damning of a self-betrayal than her agreement to something she doesn’t even know yet, 'I didn’t think you expected to have sex with me. I like having sex with you. As in, I wanted to have sex tonight. Want to.'
He laughs, even as he’s puffing up his chest, and Leia lets him pull her into his arms. ‘Well, that’s a kriffin’ relief, sweetheart.’
‘Do you need that in writing?’ she teases, levelling a serious look at him, her hands pressed flat against his chest. ‘Shall I give my explicit and enthusiastic consent before you take off my clothes? Do I have to—’
Han kisses her before she can come up with anything else and, afterwards, she stays.

Want to try keeping better track of the money you spend and the money you earn this year? Don't want to pay for some stupid program? Want to do this but don't know how to make good spreadsheets? Never fear! I am here to tell you that I have made a spreadsheet for YOU!
Simply click the link to view the spreadsheet. It is in Google Sheets so you can use it there OR download a copy as an Excel file is that is better for you. If you want to use this sheet in Google Sheets, click File < Make a copy. If you want to use it in Excel, click File < Download < Microsoft Excel.
There are two, long, thorough tabs explaining how to use the In and Out sheets, and what in the world I am talking about in all of the column names. The data should auto populate for the Sum totals for all of the categories.
If you do use this and you have questions or find that something breaks, you can shoot me a DM on tumblr, send me an ask here on tumblr at sonicenvytumblr.com/ask or send me an email at [email protected] or [email protected]
Hope this helps someone out! :)

tag people you want to catch up with/get to know better
i was tagged by @sonicenvy and actually noticed it!!! yippee
last song: "Masquerade" by Clan of Xymox - i'm listening to it right now! no official music video, but someone put the song to this video so that works for me
youtube
last film: "Ma Vie De Courgette" (2016) - i've been re-visiting a lot of twee and unique films i love as of late. i saw this in a theater in france back in 2016 with my film class so it makes me extra nostalgic for that time
youtube
current read (or last read): i'm currently reading "White Fragility" by Robin Diangelo and "This Is What It Sounds Like" by Susan Rogers and Ogi Ogas. both great books (big non-fiction fan, here)
currently watching: um. nothing really? i'm showing someone ted lasso (we have 3 episodes left to watch together and i'm really curious to hear their take on the finale), but otherwise i'm not really watching anything right now. i was thinking of doing a hannibal or broadchurch rewatch soon, though
current obsessions: KILLING THIS FUCKING FLY IN MY APARTMENT. jk. i managed to stun it with a towel and get it outside without killing it. i'm re-listening to the radio version of good omens again and can't stop thinking about it, and i've been having a great time getting super into cumbia music lately
i'm tagging @gabriellovescandy and @androgymagnus if y'all are interested!

for the unpopular opinion meme: baby!anakin in TPM was super cute. (for some reason tons of people hated him??? i didn't find this out until i went on star wars reddit for the first time 😬)
strongly agree | agree | neutral | disagree | strongly disagree I honestly can’t say why a lot of people dislike baby!Anakin, there are probably some valid reasons, up to and including that some just don’t vibe with him, that’s fine.  And there are probably some total bullshit reasons that are just aggravating. Thankfully, in the circles I run in, pretty much everyone I know thinks baby!Anakin was precious and that Jake Lloyd did an amazing job with the character.  I LOVE BABY!ANAKIN HE IS PRECIOUS AND ADORABLE AND I WOULD NOT CHANGE A THING. LOOK AT THIS CUTENESS:

29, 24, 16 for the country ask! :)
Thank you very much for asking! ☺✨ For a bit of context, my country is Italy!
29. does your region/city have a beef with another place in your country? I don’t think so. There’s a historical hate between the North and the South, given by privilege and historical differences, which is quite seriously damaging, still today. The younger generations are slowly getting over it, also because people move from region to region. My own parents are one from the North and one from the South! :D
24. what other nation is joked about most often in your country? Leaving aside all the awful xenophobic stereotypes of some bigoted people, the only jokes about other countries I can get behind are the “We’re going to conquer / have a war with San Marino if they’re not giving us 12 points at Eurovision”. It’s hilarious. San Marino has been a country by itself since the Middle Ages, and was never a part of Italy, so all the jokes about “invading” it if they aren’t nice to us in the Eurovision times are quite funny, mostly because we don’t really talk about San Marino outside of that context. It’s not that nice that we might have never given them a lot of points back, though...
16. which stereotype about your country you hate the most and which one you somewhat agree with? Well, the most obvious stereotype about my country is the mafia, isn’t it? That’s the one I hate the most. Mafia has been romanticised too much by fiction now, it’s not taken seriously at all. This stereotype portrays Italians as spineless mafiosi who do nothing all day and only eat pasta and pizza. That’s NOT it, friend. Any kind of mafia (which, by the way, can be found in many countries) is a terrorist organization that threatens and kills people for favours and money. Many people that have tried to stop it have been murdered, as well as some people who have tried to get out of it, or who have tried to denounce it. It’s still around and it’s still a serious threat as ever. Don’t romanticise it, please.
The stereotype I can get behind is that we love our food. I mean, obviously, haha! Every one of the 20 regions of Italy has its own typical food. From Aosta Valley’s Fonduta Valdostana to Apulia’s Taralli, just to say the least! We are quite proud of our food, and why not? It’s pretty good! ;)
Thank you again for asking these questions! I hope you have a lovely day 🤗💜

So I decided to go back to school this year and am now in grad school, which I am somewhat struggling with more than I would like; damn them ADHD brain gremlins. As a grad school veteran, do you have any tips for not drowning in grad school while being a semi-functioning employed adult? 💚
Aha, well. I haven't actually gone to grad school while also working full time (unless I really lose my mind and do another master's degree while also managing two and/or three academic programs, but let's not talk about that), so I don't have specific suggestions in that regard. However, I can offer my basic tips for surviving grad school, which include:
* Set a routine and make sure you block out time to do your reading and/or writing. If nothing else, prioritize this. A lot of your grade in the class will come from what is directly before the professor's eyeballs, i.e. whether you can prove that you actually have a clue what they're teaching you and whether you can write coherently as a result. You can skim-read (dirty secret: almost all academics do), but you have to know how to skim-read, so you'll still taking in the essential points of the content. Usually this means reading the abstract, the introduction and conclusion, and maybe the beginning and end of each chapter or article section. Take notes. If you think "oh no, I'll definitely remember that!" -- that is the devil talking. Read with a pen in your hand. Future You will thank you.
* Likewise: you will need to take at least a few days to write a decent grad school essay. Plan in advance. Some people are the kind who can frantically scramble to pull an entire undergrad essay out of the hat on the night before and submit it at 11:59pm, but a) this doesn't work in grad school, or at least not as much, and b) if that's how you're going through it, you're not getting value out of it for money, and grad school is FRIKIN EXPENSIVE. The most amount of outstanding student loan debt I have is from my master's degree, not my bachelor's or PhD. If you're skating through it and bullshitting everything, then it's just not worth what you're paying.
* COMMUNICATE! PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, COMMUNICATE!!!! This should be both to your professors in school and/or your bosses at your regular job. If you anticipate a schedule conflict, need an extension, have something that needs to be done in one front that will have to take priority over the other -- PLEASE COMMUNICATE! (Is this my Traumatized Faculty And/Or Administrator Voice talking? You can't prove it.) Don't drop in with a panicked email five hours before the deadline and beg for more time/a dispensation/extension/whatever. Most people will be willing to work with you, but that relies on giving them time and/or planning space to do so and make other arrangements; after all, they are also counting on you to be a team player and if you can't be, to give them the chance not to be screwed by your absence. It is a basic courtesy to promptly answer (and my god, READ!!!!) your emails and to communicate with other people BEFORE problems arise, rather than when you're right in the middle of them and it is already an emergency. Everyone will thank you for this.
* Likewise: work out which things need to be done as soon as they come up, and which ones are able to wait a little longer. My particular brand of neurodivergence often makes me think that I need to do new things RIGHT NOW GOD RIGHT NOW FIVE ALARM FIRE!! and I stress and get anxious until I do them, even if I'm already working on something else. Project-hopping can sometimes be helpful if you're feeling blocked on something else, but do also have a sense of what needs to be prioritized most.
* If you're not already on medication and/or have some way of managing your ADHD: I would strongly recommend that. Grad school is hard enough, and you don't need to make it artificially harder. There are always the usual bugaboos about obtaining any kind of care, but do what you have to do, medically or otherwise, to make sure you're putting your best foot forward and not artificially sabotaging yourself because the brain chemicals just won't play ball. Believe me, I also know something about that, so yeah.
Good luck!

tag game: fic roundup!
Tagged by @sonicenvy a very long time ago and, since I'm clearing out my drafts on main, I'm finally doing it 🙈
how many fic documents do you have/where do they live?
112 on Google Drive and 74 on my PC, which is also synced to my Drive but most docs there are Word. This includes fics that are already published as well as docs that are outlines, ideas, alt takes, etc and there's probably some overlap
what fandoms do you have fic for?
Published: Star Wars and Harry Potter
The only one other fandom I ever wrote fic for is the Pretty Little Liars book series lmao, I started handwriting my version of the last book before it came out, but obviously never finished or published, and then the book came out (MY TAKE WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER)
how long is your longest unpublished wip?
longest for Star Wars: the vampire AU, currently at 25906 words/55 pages buuuuut
the longest overall is a Ron/Hermione wip called Livewires that is 59303 words/106 pages long. I regret not having finished it before losing steam for the fandom, but it became a very long project for me - that was the beginning.
what fic types are most common in your wips?
a mix of "relationship progression" and AUs, I think
do you have any ongoing ‘verses/series in your wips, if so, what are they?
Hungry Hearts, wonderful unknown, Inventory of Han Solo Kisses, and a couple of follow-ups
long or short fic?
I'm like a mid person lol - I have a bunch of long one-shots and a handful of multichapters/anthologies, but I think most of my fics are between 1k-7k.
no pressure tags: @walkawaytall @diplomaticprincess @captaincwb @lajulie24 @madame-alexandra

what is your favorite line from an Emily Dickinson Poem? I am personally a big fan of "I dwell in possibility"
It's really difficult for me to choose one line; it's rare something has greater significance separated from its whole as opposed to part of it. With that said, "Creator - Shall I - Bloom?" and "She's "sorry I am dead" - again -" are both lines that knock me out on their own (from God Made a Little Gentian and I Cried at Pity Not at Pain, respectively).
I know you said poem, but I'd be remiss if I didn't mention my favorite Dickinson line of all time, from a letter to Sue Huntington. "I have thought of it all day, Susie, and I fear of but little else, and when I was gone to meeting it filled my mind so full, I could not find a chink to put the worthy pastor; when he said 'Our Heavenly Father,' I said 'Oh Darling Sue'; when he read the 100th Psalm, I kept saying your precious letter all over to myself"

Here it is!!! The new and improved Weird, Wonderful and Useful web spreadsheet. Here you'll find:
Useful websites
Websites you didn't know you needed in your life
Quirky, old school corners of the web
Obscure javascript experiments by fun computer nerds
Websites to help out writers
Websites to learn new shit
& more!!
plus! you'll find a list of useful browser extensions & good (legal) free software to use in the second tab.
Because i am a neurotic nerd, you will find:
things are sorted into filterable columns, primarily a category column
I have done my best to test everything in gecko browsers (firefox, waterfox, etc), chromium browsers [derrogatory] (chrome, edge etc) and webkit browsers (safari). I did not test mobile on most stuff because why would you use the internet for useful things on mobile when desktop exists and is infinitely superior in every way imaginable.
I have done my best to note down whatever advertising you might find on the site without an adblocker. that said, get ublock origin today and elevate your internet experience by eliminating ads from the internet.
i have also helpfully told you if the thing requires an account or not.
if i missed something absolutely awesome in either tab, please drop me a line in the replies to this post, my tumblr inbox (sonicenvy.tumblr.com/ask) or by email at [email protected]. i want to know about all the best, coolest, most underground parts of the web.

Leia and R. A deafening sound. for the minific ask post!
R. A defeaning sound.
I’ve always enjoyed the headcanon that Leia enjoys thunderstorms, but I’m rather delighted that Claudia Gray made it canon (in Leia, Princess of Alderaan). Hope you enjoy!
A Good Storm
A clap of thunder woke Leia from a sound sleep. At first she thought she must be dreaming, opening her eyes just in time to see the flash of lightning disappear and the darkness return, the vibrations from the thunder still humming through the clearing. Then another flash followed, briefly illuminating their campsite and the four Rebels in sleeping bags, before ending in a deafening crack.
That one had been close.
Good thing their gear was water-resistant. The storm was nearly on top of them now, and even if they packed up right this second they’d never outrun it. They’d have to let the storm pass through, stay still and trust that they’d all be fine in the morning.
Leia smiled, turning over on her back to watch the light show some more. Something in her being craved a good storm, loved witnessing the light and sound as it moved across the sky. The power, the beauty, the peace of the brief pause right before the rain started in earnest.
“What in blazes was that?” Luke said from two places away. His voice only dimly registered in Leia’s mind; her focus was on the sky.
Han’s reply was mild, strangely calming. “Just a thunderstorm, Kid.”
“Shouldn’t we pack up, get inside before it gets here?” Leia could hear Luke moving around in his sleeping bag, anxious.
“It’s already here,” Wedge said from beside Luke.
The storm had cooled the air considerably, though it was still thick with humidity. Another flash, another rumble close behind.
Growing up, she’d sat at the window seat in her bedroom, watching the majesty from behind the glass. Here, it was right before her. She was part of it, connected. Electric.
She felt the rain start before it fell; it moved from a droplet on her cheek to a downpour in minutes. Her lashes were dripping with rain, but she let it stream down her face, her eyes still focused above.
Luke was yelling something in Huttese, likely a curse, and burrowing further down into his sleeping bag. Han and Wedge were laughing; at first it sounded far away, but like the thunder, it arrived and became Leia’s laughter, too, streaming down her cheeks with the rain.
Thank you for the ask!

WIP Last Line Tag Game
I was tagged by @ptork66 (thank you so much!!!)
Rules: post the last sentence you wrote for any fic and tag as many people as there are words.
I'm finally in the editing stages of my SOC "How Inej Got Her Knives" fic, which means my last line(s) are from there!
“But by tomorrow morning Van Eck won’t be so smug about his impenetrable gallery and those supposedly foolproof locks he crowed to the papers about.” His grin was razor sharp.
I'm not tagging 30 people lmao, so no pressure tagging @oneofthewednesdays, @sonicenvy, @silverwhittlingknife, @femboykaz, @princedrewwrites, @cameliawrites, and anyone else who wants to participate can say I tagged them!

sonicenvy replied to your post “My local library started contactless pickup last month with the...”
library worker here! my library started doing contactless holds pickup four weeks ago now. One of the top reasons that it takes a lot of time for patrons to get their holds is that we are running operations with the bare minimum number of staff members on site for staff safety. This means that we usually only have 1-3 people per day pulling holds for ALL of our patrons.  from my experience, it takes ~4 hours to do 1 pull list (about 200 items) i work for a suburban library that has only 3 branches, but we usually have ~2000 unique item holds per week placed by patrons. we have been quarantining returns for 1 week before returning them to the stacks, which holds up holds too. plus, the pull lists are usually printed at ~10AM and are listed by patron last name alphabetically. basically what this means is that I might only pull items for patrons with "g" last names for four hours it is frustrating for you guys though :) lots of love from your library. we are SO glad that you are using our services and appreciate the hell out of your patience> apologies for my enthusiasm lol. im just down to give people the BTS deets :)
Haha, no worries, like I said I’m definitely happy to stay patient for it! I know that I haven’t necessarily made it super easy for the staff over there - all of the materials I put on hold are listed as available and on shelf and have been as far as I recall since I placed my holds at the end of May, but I’m working on catching up on YA and middle grade fiction, some middle grade nonfiction, plus graphic novels, and I also requested a couple of sets of DVDs just to be wacky - so if they’re not formatting their pull lists by department, I’ve really set up a scavenger hunt for them! (I interned for a library in the same network where we were able to separate the list by department/area of the library, which was great even for the small branch where I was working, but I’m not sure whether my current library is still using the same ILS - it’s been ~4 years since then - or possibly if in-person vs. remote staffing imbalances between departments have made it less sensible to do it this way. And I don’t know that I ever learned whether it was even possible to only include local holds on pull lists or to exclude certain libraries, though the receiving library name was always printed in bold at the bottom of the entry, iirc. Shockingly, we didn’t cover “what if all the libraries are shut down because of a pandemic and then have to slowly reopen” in school or work experience; a real curriculum oversight apparently!)
I work for an NLS library now so our service model is pretty different, but I definitely spent plenty of time paging holds back when I was volunteering and interning, so I know that pain. 😉 (Doing paperback picture books and easy readers was the worst because those skinny little buggers can slip behind each other or get misahelved SO EASILY by my wonderful and well-meaning small friends and their caregivers, but just more of the joy of youth services, I guess. And it doesn’t generally involve bodily fluids, so a win there...) Thanks for all you - and your colleagues! - are doing from your end!! And I hope that your director/electeds are in your corner and keeping you all safe and supported.
