okay so like i just need to yap yap yap about sonic once again sorry guys 😇

dudeee the fact that mimic is probably gonna pretend to be sonic during the race as the phantom rider (get “usurped” as the synopsis put it ) is fucking crazyyyy. i’m really hoping this will be a long arc and it’ll be just as good as the metal virus arc (one of my faves). this is giving archie sonic vibes as well when they did that sonic the fighters story; like they took an old game and adopted it and it somehow works really well (don’t quote me on that tho i haven’t read very much of archie 😭). oh AND the covers make it even more evident, like how 70 B doesn’t have duo anywhere and 71 B literally has two versions of the phantom rider. i wonder if all of clean sweep inc will make more of a bigger stand as a villainous group or if mimic/duo infiltrating is really their only plan as of right now.

regarding the preview page NITE THE GAY OWL IS BACK JUST IN TIME FOR PRIDE MONTH!!! ALSO WHO WAS THAT KOALA FELLER THERYE SUCH A SILLY GOOBER LMAOOO EVEN IF THEY JUST ENDS UP BEING A BACKGROUND CHARACTER I LOVE THEM SM RAHHH but at the same time they look hella uncomfortable being put with surge and kit and i don’t blame them in the slightest they scary af 💀

duo being in the race tho does make it a bit harder to believe that this was his doing if he’s supposed to be participating so another theory that i’ve seen floatin around is that it could be infinite (becus phantom ruby… phantom rider… similar names). honestly this would be amazing becus i’ve always adored infinites design and if we got a chance to see him rewritten as an actually good character i would be so fucking ecstatic

Hello beloved :)) if I wanted to get into the sonic archie comics……..how? The world of comics in general is a bit much for me so is there a favorite arc/series point you have or know of any good video essays on the comics that can give me a gist of them??? Or if you want to just infodump an essay abt it I will happily read it!!(spoilers are a-okay they don’t bother me!)

I can give you a bunch of resources on how to read them!!

This is a great reading guide for the full Archie experience. It lists all main comic issues in reading order but most importantly it also lists all the mini series and side comics and what order you should ideally read them in!

This is what I use to read the comic. There’s a bunch of mini series and side comics that are seperate from this listing but also available on the same site! You should have some kind of adblocker installed though because otherwise the UI will redirect you a lot. I use AdBlocker Ultimate on Firefox and it works pretty well!

Archie Sonic unfortunately is INCREDIBLY prone to calling back to itself (to the point where one of the most pivotal late issues calls back to a side mini series from the first 20 issues) so it’s hard to recommend starting anywhere but the beginning.

I started around issue 70 when I originally read it because that’s when the comics start to adhere themselves to the modern games a little and am now reading it entirely from the beginning, but I have heard that starting from issue 160 onwards is a pretty good starting point if you wanna skip the weird parts because that’s when Ian Flynn took over as head writer!

Archie is one continuous narrative so there’s not so much different arcs beyond pre and post universe reboot and pre and post the change from Ken Penders to Ian Flynn but if you want a really good Sonic comic to start with that isn’t quite so massive I can recommend the newer IDW run of comics! These are canon to the games and completely seperate from Archie canon. Though they will possibly ruin your standards for reading Archie because they’re just that good LMAO

You can find the IDW comics here. There’s a handful of mini series that are seperate listings but the main comics will usually tell you to go read them so that’s a decent reading order guide!

ik i don't normally sonicpost on here (except for reblogs) but this issue has so many interesting concepts!!!!

phantom rider. not only is sonic using eggman tech, he's using it to APPEAR AS A ROBOT, and he's being mean???? my world is upside down and my crops are watered. very cool, very fun. sonic being an absolute jerk is super interesting to see

surge and kit being viewed as heroes and actually enjoying it is also fascinating. they don't necessarily want to be seen as villains, and i think that's cool. makes them more interesting characters i think.

jet and surge having a rivalry is also delicious. we always see sonic's rivalries but never his rival's rivaling each other! super cool, can't wait to see more of that

belle's hand being able to operate on its own has some really interesting implications down the line. i hope we get a bit where she's been broken up into limbs and appendages, and she has to work like that to solve problems. idk i think that'd be fun

also jewel's catching on???? i wish we'd gotten to see what tipped her off, though i suppose that'll be revealed in future issues. nice to see they aren't demoting her to local idiot leadership

also also everyone's outfits are super cool, especially those who didn't previously have established rider outfits. i feel like we're seeing way more characterization in these clothing choices and they also just look really cool! same for the vehicles. we love background characterization

anyways im having a great time with this arc and i hope the rest of it gives great payoff for these concepts
