Arve Henriksen and Harmen Fraanje — Touch of Time (ECM)
Tumblr media
youtube
What exactly is a “Redream?” Yes, it’s the third piece on trumpeter Arve Henriksen and pianist Harmen Fraanje’s new collaborative album and one of Fraanje’s own compositions, but is it a dream reboot or a contemplative revisitation of somnolence, a “regard” a la Messiaen in contemplation of the baby Jesus? Like the music on Touch of Time, that elusive title occupies a between space, a glance toward opposites that never quite solidify as expected but float by, imbued with  introspective calm.
As with so many ECM albums, music and production were made for each other. Henriksen’s sound has been documented enough to need little description. Its combination of reed, flute and voice expands and obfuscates in tandem, but the breath supporting that constantly morphing timbre may never have been caught with just this level of detail in motion. It moves in physical space with the same easy grace carrying each note toward the myriad conclusions Henriksen has perfected. His inaugural phrase of “Passing on the Past” skims those shadowy lines as lush vibrato and cloudy tone bolster notes wavering through and around each other, each luffing breath a new tempo against Fraanje’s ghostly shades of motive and chord. Henriksen’s use of electronics is tasteful, as when “The Dark Light”’s melody takes on the heft of cathedral harmonies and “Mirror Images” sits anchored in a clear but deep pool of drone. In a continuation of his work on Mats Eilertsen’s And Then Comes the Night, actually recorded in the same space, Fraanje’s pianism is captured in similarly staggering detail. Every nuance of “Redream”’s pianism is front and center, and it’s as if we can watch him pedal, digging deep into each gesture as his foot teases phrases forth with rhythmic variation akin to Henriksen’s breath control. His incorporation of melodic fragments outside whatever scale the duo’s inhabiting demonstrates a masterful adventurousness, a subtly inquisitive nature tempering harmonic stasis, whispering mischievous implications at the boundaries of conventional expression.
That’s what ECM has been doing for 55 years. The label has expanded, often via methods less overt, the spaces in which being “Avant Garde” are delineated. It is spaces just like those explored by Henriksen and Fraanje that Manfred Eicher has been opening at least since Afternoon of a Georgia Faun, Marion Brown’s awe-inspiring 1970 improvised soundscape, or did the meditative universe come into being with Benny Maupin’s 1974 masterpiece The Jewel in the Lotus? Like Allan Pettersson’s approach to shifting planes of harmonic consonance and dissonance in his symphonies, those two albums defined the emotionally adjacent innovations and conventionalities the label so often explores, but ECM production offers so much more to experience. Touch of Time demonstrates yet another aspect of adherence to the label’s lineage of atmospheric sonics. Whether live or under studio conditions, foregrounded detail and room ambiance combine in a way few, if any, other labels achieve. Each creak from Fraanje’s bench or instrument and the slightest breathy movement Henriksen executes comes aliveand becomes an integral component to the music’s evolution. Each sonic document from ECM provides a coexistent narrative, telling the story of its creation even as that creation manifests, but those narratives are thorough-going. Ensembles, even a duo, morph, shedding notions of size and surrounding space even as the music eschews the confines of harmony, melody and their predispositions. Touch of Time is one of the label’s most stirring recent examples of double-narrative. Dig deeper into the electronics Henriksen employs to find worlds of undulant harmony in glorious states of becoming, and each note Fraanje plays decays with his instrument’s glorious overtones in full view. Go deeper still into each key stroke and sonic moment to find that timbre succumbs to similar flights of fancy. Are those metallic cube sounds peppering an atmosphere? Is there a ghost harmony just below a melodic surface? Did those notes external to the scale really fit perfectly after all? Re-audition tells one story, then another, and finally reiterates the first in a new way, a (re)experience well worth having.

12th Anniversary!! (it was on Saturday)
Tumblr media
So, if you ever read this series... Original version (because you either used MTL on it, or can speak/understand BR-PT)
Let's talk about some changes!!
The names: Some names were originally in JP and taken ideas from ex-friends and my original co-writer. The new version, i had a help from a beta reader/editor to rename most of the other world's counterparts of the kids. EXCEPT Daisuke's which kept being "Lance", but his nickname became "Dai". Ah, and Ken's, of course.
I'll list every name from the original version and its change out of curiosity:
Helios (Taichi's counterpart) → Saigo
Amis Lupe (Yamato's) → Okami
Sienna (Sora's) → Yaku
Fiorella (Mimi's) → Ai
Diomedes (Koushiro's) → Nesshin
Jason (Jou's) → Omoni
Lance "Dai" Dusktella (Daisuke's) → Lance "Kiseki" Kuroiboshi (i wrote it wrongly in the fic)
Flannery (Miyako's) → Miya/MiyaShurimon (not-so-creative)
Zuzen (Iori's) → IoriArmadimon (again, not creative)
Boniface (Takeru's) → Unmei
Lia → Yami
Warlock was the only name i kept unchanged. Just... changed his surname for its actual reference. "Who" is a pun on Ken's first name, which has a similar pronunciation of "Quem" in Portuguese. Hence the joke on Ken's counterpart name.
I don't remember much of the ideas of each name (because i can't access to those ol' convos alas), except for Lia's being the opposite of Hikari (lol) and Lance's nickname being a reference to the Digimental/Crest of Miracles (which was a key point in it)
○ ○ ○
OCs made specifically for this saga: When i was writing it, i not only mixed things i liked (Vocaloid songs, BRS and a Sonic fancomic) -- i also had the help of a co-writer friend to adapt other songs from the Daughter of Evil's story. Keep in mind the new version tried to be a bit divergent from it, while the original was... uh... me and frienddo creating an AU based on it. Y'know, like how we all do.
Such characters were one mine and one of said co-writer. Co-writer's OC was playing Haku's role & song, but with a different finale?
Meanwhile my OC... was playing a very original role! She was tied to Lance's story as some friend he made and later has befriended Lia.
Since I had lost contact with my co-writer to ask for permission for the use of their OC, I decided to cut them out. Said OCs were the counterparts of our actual OCs who would be later introduced in Hinode saga. Again, i cut them & ChibiBunnymon off in the Hinode drabbles version.
○ ○ ○
Some exclusive character changes: The original fic, the very first one, had a white Wormmon and a Puroromon in the cast of characters following Daisuke & V-mon through the labyrinth. They were not related fo Flannery and Dragon Who at all. They were legit digimon kidnapped and forced to recover the "Magic object" at the end of the labyrinth.
○ ○ ○
Some details changed: Originally Warlock was married to Lia, and they weren't going well since Lance's death. Also, since i wrote all of those ages before Kizuna (2010, what a coincidence!), i wasn't using the epilogue versions of the characters and yes... Their 02 (Kids) counterparts. Which is weird who in the world would let two kids marry each other! Well, this was because i was writing this to be more Daisuke seeing his friends in those peeps -- Kinda like what happens to Sonic in the games "Secret Rings" and "Black Knight". Actually SatBK was very very much the core of my inspiration for it 😅 The new version, also written before Kizuna (2013!!), was trying to go by the idea of older versions of them. Also Lia and Lance were no longer twins and she became younger than Lance & Warlock.
Also, at the end of the original arc 3, Daisuke finally meets Mimi's counterpart as the one who offers him a chance of choosing who he would like to be -- himself, or go back to the other world as Lance. This part was totally retconned in the new one as Daisuke does not die in the final battle and it is revealed Fiorella has reborn in the same world as Daisuke's, as Mimi. Said part was based on the mentioned Sonic fancomic, which was one of my favorite scenes in a chapter. In which Sonic gets two options to choose, and he makes his choice from there.
Said scene would later get a replay as some shocking reveal in Hinode, that would be the fact Daisuke-Lance actually chose to return to the other world, and then he would die again by fighting the evil which was consuming his world. This would then send him to another world as Daisuke, and then be involved with the said villains all again to put all the Chosen Children in this fight to save the worlds... Then, resulting in the birth of Dai-Lightnimon Royal Mode. Of course i never finished the OG Hinode and this is all scrapped at this point.
Those are just a few things i remember haha, hope you enjoyed the post!!

boards.*4chan.*org/co/thread/99815256 remove the asterisks. Fair warning: 4chan users are very crude so you might see some unpleasant comments in-between posts. I might have exaggerated on the "flirting" but the bickering is definitely there.
SPOILER WARNING! I’m going to commentate on some panels ^^; ALSO- PRECIOUS ANON YOU ROCK, YOU ARE MY WORLD RIGHT NOW. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is great! Not only is there character explanation going on, but there is also a dynamic clearly set up and evolving through the comic. She’s slightly frustrated with him and he’s blatantly doing his own thing (dismissing her complaints?). How cute is that? :D
Tumblr media
I love Sonic’s finger-walking gestures xD This is a real concern and Amy acts very cutely with her disappointments! It’s definitely more mature, but still ‘cutesy’ and I like that they retained that part of her character :) Showing more of her ‘smarts’ you could say. She really is, naturally, a born leader and well put together, Sonic just makes her weak-in-the-knees, so to speak lol
Tumblr media
What a wonderful way to segue into her duties and how important she is. Strategy/Tactician is definitely good traits to count on with Amy. And you can see them really working together too.
Tumblr media
Amy’s natural commanding/demanding spirit has been usually shown in negative ways like ‘bossy’ and ‘over-the-top’ or ‘uncaring for others vs. her own’ kind of way. (Cause she is caring!) I’m glad this shows the positive take on Amy’s ‘strong’ presence instead of what is usually perceived :)
Tumblr media
EXCELLENT. The bottom panels gets me every time too. Sonic’s showing charm. Comradery with Amy. They’re talking and discussing it out. he’s told her what he’s doing and she’s agreeing with not changing him (And loving that about him) and they’re ‘tag-teaming’ which is honestly so beautiful that the writer gets THIS is Sonic and Amy. They don’t just always clash, though they have different priorities sometimes or what have you. They’re actually pretty unified. (though bickering happens with those you love most lol)
Tumblr media
I’ve always headcanoned they have moves together, this made me so happy. They’re having FUN together. Sonic has FUN with Amy! People don’t seem to think that way about them and it’s sad. So this was important to set up ‘connection’ from the get-go. Well done.
Tumblr media
Amy’s ‘pushiness’ is perceived well once again in a ‘comedical’ but not degrading to the character way. It’s shown in a sly, almost cheeky way which adds to the sass of Amy wanting it her way, but accepting Sonic’s lifestyle just as much as her own way of going about things. (Later on. lol referring to the comic as a whole as I go through this.)
Tumblr media
Again, they’re TALKING. It’s a DISCUSSION. No one is controlling and this is extremely healthy for any type of bond/relationship with characters! They’re friends! They could be more! But look! They can talk things out!!! So crucial to include this.
Tumblr media
The subtle flirting is genius, they’re working together, and their dynamic is almost spot-on to proper building. I’m just so… -sniff- happy. They can tease each other, it also shows that both parties are comfortable around the other. It’s a funny dynamic, but it’s a healthy one nonetheless. A mutual admiration and respect. Sonic compliments Amy (implied impressed) and Amy accepts Sonic for who he is and his ways (Implied romantic love.) but she kinda makes that obvious lol xD She’s flustered, that works for me. Different, nonetheless. But works for me :) I think it works for Sonic too xD
Tumblr media
Mentioning Amy’s expert aim in the next panel made me so happy. He recognizes her strengths, and he happily charms her when the moment strikes him too. Gucci.  👌
Tumblr media
Fawning fangirl has now grown into flustered crush. … I can dig this. Make her blush, Sonic, and I’m glad he looked spooked at her holding his hand awhile back too… it shows that he still reacts to her XD That’s important. He has to be affected by her charms too. (Shy boy? lol Awkward, yes. But reacting! haha)
Tumblr media
AUGH. So important. SO SO important. He offers her to come along. He ENJOYS her company. (Flirting hint! He likes her too! He got a little flustered and charming back!)
Tumblr media
“Heh…Well…It’s not like it’s all or nothing. You could come with me.”
OH MY GOSH. YOU SMITTEN CAUSE THE CUTE GIRL SAID SHE LOVES YOU FOR YOU. lol (He totally wanted her to come with lolololol But he was impressed and understood she chose the resistance over it. IT GETS LONELY HITTING THE ROAD BY YOURSELF, HUH, SONIC?! -I’m gonna give this Sonic a hard time, I can tell XD but that’s a good sign I’m enjoying myself!-)
She’s valued to him. And she willingly declines over the needs of others besides her own selfish interest in pursuing Sonic. SHE BRUSHED OFF TEMPTATION. She’s matured, he’s obviously fancing her, there is a definite ‘build’ to ‘romantic intrigue’ that can be touched upon based on this ‘building’ of their core dynamic. Well done! (Professor Oak’s voice from PokeSnap.)  👏 👏 👏
Tumblr media
So cute. HAS TO BE METAL SONIC. That’s where my money is. I thought Infinite… but now METAL SONIC. MY BOY. YES. You didn’t realize Amy grew so much stronger. I’m so happy. This was so much fun. Until we come together again ;Db

As the suburban Long Island neighborhood turns over to the next generation of homeowners, a majority of old growth oak trees have been clear cut. This decision to reduce clutter and cleanup will ultimately result in the dissapearnce not only of habitat for migrating songbirds, but the sonic transformation that occurs in The Mast I. The Mast hired landscapers as they rev up leaf blowers, chainsaws and industrial tree grinders, into a cacophony of machine noise. At once a documentation of destruction of habitat on a local level, the Mast I and II serve as a microcosm for the changes fancing the planet today.

Quote
Erkki Kurenniemi (1941-2017),  a pioneer of electronic music, technological inventions and imaginaries, has passed away. He can be characterised by lists that catalogue his interests and skills, lists that are eclectic, fragmented but also about enthusiastic curiosity: a filmmaker, creative music technologist, roboticist, tinkerer as well as “perennial dissident” (as Erkki Huhtamo quipped). He was of the generation who used computers before they became personal; computers were odd experimental machines found at university departments and sometimes banks. Perhaps part of the trick was also to remind oneself of computers as something you could build yourself, and use for all sorts of wrong purposes. The Finnish technologist recorded his life with the meticulous intent of an admistrative worker, a scribe – notebooks, audio recordings, video clips, collections of ephemera. A large part of Kurenniemi’s life was a sort of durational performance art piece that aimed to gather bits of human life, memorabilia, towards the point (around 2048) at which computational capacities are efficient enough to model and simulate human life. He also took the liberty to write his own premature obituary: “Oh, Human Fart” some 13 years before his actual death. The text starts like this: “I was five when the ENIAC electronic computer was started. During the fifties, as a schoolboy, I read about computers and electronic music. Max Mathews used the computer to generate music. With my father, I visited the Bull computer factory in Fance and I was sold.” In many ways, Kurenniemi himself wrote what others should write and think about him. After that self-defined ur-scene, many devices, sounds and ideas followed like the Dimi-series of synthetizers where in some cases also touch and movement became sound. Kurenniemi’s way of narrating his own life emphasises the role of technology, which is not a surprise. One can say that he is a symptom of the particular period, the post-World War II and Cold War age of computer technologies, experimental technological arts, as well as the  discourse of cyborgs and the technological singularity. But all this was also situated in the more mundane the entry of technologies in institutions: university departments, companies, socio-technical infrastructures from telephony to gaming to automation of factory production. Kurenniemi’s work became a reference point that was rethought, reinvented, remixed, and re-performed in various contexts in electronic music. It was not merely to be replayed but acted as a reference point and as a resource for experiments. Florian Hecker discussed Kurenniemi’s work also as part of the wider culture of experiments in sound from Cage to Xenakis: “Kurenniemi showed progression from one register to the next, the period of his musical instruments was followed by a study of tuning systems and theoretical conceptions on neural networks; it’s essential to do something else with all that material, rather than a mere scholarly reactivation or reorganization.” Cue in, Pan Sonic with Kurenniemi. From sounds and performance to contemporary art, Kurenniemi’s work has been featured in various exhibitions, including at dOCUMENTA (13), Kunsthall Aarhus and Kiasma in Helsinki. His archival project can be perceived as an archival fever that was partly triggered as part of digital culture. However for Kurenniemi, this was always in the context of imagining the coming AI future but without the fallacy that this machine intelligence would be humanlike. Why would it want to model and imitate something so “slow, imprecise, forgetful, and easily fatigued” (Kurenniemi’s words)? Kurenniemi’s vision of the future was based on I.B.N.: info, bio, nano, the three defining scales of social change.  The future did not match particularly well with the human form or size. Oh human fart. Reading Kurenniemi’s life, try approaching it as rewind and fast forward. Time-axis manipulation: backwards, he is part of a cultural history of computing, of early computer experiments with visual arts such as computer animations; and then the other way, he is also a forward-dreaming, sometimes hallucinating, writer of the imaginary of a technological next step that takes a singular turn. A switch. Electronics are the backbone of this imaginary, both as visuals and as sounds, but despite his seemingly at times focused vision of the coming quantum computer future, perhaps it was never  exactly sure even to him as to what was to come: perhaps these ideas, snippets, machines, were all little probes into what is possible? Of course, he was convinced that certain technological advances will happen but perhaps as interesting as the wild imaginaries were the ways in which he worked closely with machines throughout his life, as one sort of a companion to his own meat-based existence. It was not merely about knowing what’s coming but experimenting about how to know what’s to come and educating that sort of a way of thinking to others too. There’s of course a strong hint of the particular optimism that characterised the spectacles of technology in the 1950s and 1960s in the US and Europe as well. The Eames Office was offering its own version of the visual communication in the age of information and many other institutions from MIT to AT&T, EAT, etc. participated in the new institutional entry of technological arts as part of world fairs and other events. The avant-garde was – and has since been – closer to the corporations of technology so that it became perceived as a natural step Silicon Valley took over the role of offering imaginaries of technological future. But sometimes instead of elon musks, it’s more interesting to read the erkki kurenniemis and their much earlier visions that are not solely a corporate fantasy brand line or a TED talk. Sometimes it is more interesting to look at what was going on in the seeming peripheries, like the Nordic countries, to get a sense of a slightly alternative way to understand this story, rewinding and fast-forward. After Kurenniemi’s death, what’s left is a collection of his recordings and other materials, housed at the Central Art Archives of the Finnish National Gallery. It is a mixed collection of technological dreaming that at times seemed more interesting when it was not focused on trying to invent a new thing but just speculating, like this one sound recording of Kurenniemi’s. This is where the technological imaginary does not follow a straight geometric line, but goes off on a tangent and towards escape velocity. “(00:00:00) (Click click, radio signal, blows in the microphone five times, click, blow) One, two, three, puppadadud. Fuck, fuck, fuck, this is sensitive. There we go. (blow) Yeah, a dreaming computer… will be the last human invention. Well not the last one, but… the last invention. Because a dreaming computer will already have dreamt up everything. Prior unconscious. Well, no. Dead computers may only be in two spaces: in an idle loop waiting to be interrupted or in a conscious space receiving and handling external information, printing it. A sleeping computer is not in an idle loop. Yeah, well of course it is, it does ask questions and wakes up when needed but otherwise it dreams. It is organizing its files, optimizing, associating, organizing, thinking, planning. And only when called upon, it interrupts its sleep for a little while to answer a question. (The sound of the microphone being touched, cut) (Kurenniemi C4008-1 1/11)” ___ More on Kurenniemi and texts by Kurenniemi in English: Writing and Unwriting (Media) Art History. Erkki Kurenniemi in 2048 (MIT Press). Erkki Huhtamo’s Preface “Fragments as Monument” can be read online. Erkki Kurenniemi. A Man From The Future. Mika Taanila’s film about Kurenniemi: The Future Is Not What It Used To Be. The Wire wrote a short obituary about Kurenniemi. by Jussi Parikka http://ift.tt/2p6bjrO May 02, 2017 at 03:24PM

Circular Saw Machine Benefits
Tumblr media
Circular saw machines as well as band saw machines each have their different place in a shop or in business. The possibility of selecting one over another can affect your productivity and your capability to cut specific materials hence if someone asks me, which is the best option, for the better investment.
Are you still looking for a cutting tool that will give you quick, precise cuts with excellent blade life and surface finish?
We have described the eight benefits of circular saw machines in this blog that would be helpful when choosing a cutting tool for industrial need.
What is a circular Saw Machine?
Circular saw machines, also known as cold saws, use thicker and more rigid blades than band saw blades to reduce vibration and provide a better finish. Because they cut wider slots, they require more power and a more rigid machine structure. Cutting wider slots has the disadvantage of wasting more material.
Circular saw machines with carbide-tipped blades cut through material faster and with less heat, particularly on high alloy or stainless steel. This produces an accurate cut and a high-quality finish that eliminates the need for secondary finishing operations.
Circular Saw Machine Advantages
Providing you with a complete range of products that include bar cutting circular saw machines, fully automatic circular sawing machines (SONIC FANC 125), circular saw machines, circular saw cutter machines (SONIC FANC 80), and SPM circular Saw machines.
1.Minimum Energy Consumption
The main purpose behind using circular Saw machines is it has a longer life and faster cutting. Carbide-spiked blades are sharper and remain sharp way longer than steel substitutes because of their heat resistance and great wear. A sharper edge means less damage and shattering with the premium feed rates. It doesn’t require changing your blade as constantly, also saves time and money for the long term.
Zeal Tech Automation is the circular Saw Machine Manufacturer that provides Circular Saw Machines for multi-purpose such as Steel, and Metals industries.
2.Speed
Circular saws are much faster than other power tools, such as mitre saws or jigsaws, at completing tasks. This means that using a circular saw allows you to complete your projects more quickly and efficiently.
3.Finest surface finish for the secondary applications
With the durability and tough structure of the blade, the edges of the blade can stay sharp for a long duration. As you know, a sharp edge is capable of making clean and smooth cutting. It helps to cut various applications smoothly due to the sharp cermet/carbide tips.
4.Hardened blade for repeatable accuracy
The primary benefit of using a circular saw blade instead of the band saw blade is its capability to have fast and repetitive accurate cuts with an excellent surface finish. These saw blades are inflexible and capable of pushing through the material efficiently.
5.Longer blade life
Circular saw blades are able to long last for thousands of cuts.  You not only will gain an advantage in cut times but also gain time from not changing a blade, unlike your competitor. Let your competitors change blades while your production works are going for delivery.
6.Precise cuts
Circular saws are ideal for precision work such as building cabinets or cutting trim pieces for furniture because they make clean, straight cuts.
7.Versatility
Circular saws are capable of cutting a wide range of materials, including wood, metal, and plastic. As a result, they are extremely versatile and useful for a wide range of projects.
8.Increased productivity
People are tired of wasting money on saw blades with less life span. Circular saw blades are worth investing in. They stick sharper for an extended period.
