@hcpefulmarshmallow said: "I look good in a crown." (Prince Consort Ko!!!)
Send "I look good in a crown" for my muse's reaction to yours suddenly becoming royalty (No Longer Accepting)
"You know that it is custom to ask the King for a wedding gift after a proposal has been formally announced."
"I am aware, father. I only wish for two things from you and our country."
"Oh? Why do I have the feeling that your requests are not part of the Novoselic Crown Jewels?"
"Because all I want is for Nagito to have somewhere he knows he belongs: I want for him to have a proper home and a family. That is the wedding present I desire from you and our country."
***
Perhaps she should've been more specific. That was Sonia's thought as she navigated the underground corridors of Novoselic Castle. It was quicker than being driven around the vast building to the Royal Family's private entrance and she didn't dare cross through the rooms open to the public at this hour. As gracious as she tried to be with her time, greeting visitors she happened to come across as she went about her day, the Princess of Novoselic was in no mood to slow down.
After all, they'd been delivered today. She'd been on a visit to the capital's police headquarters when Cecily had discreetly whispered the news to her: after all the planning she'd tried to do so she could be with him when they were unboxed, and it had still been brought to their wing of the Castle while she attended an official royal appearance. While it was likely the least overwhelming aspect of Nagito's life in the past seven or eight months, that wasn't saying much. The official engagement announcement had propelled both of their lives forward, in responsibilities, in public opinion, faster than any roller coaster she'd ever tried in her life. In the blink of an eye, the most romantic time in her life had turned into interview after interview, endless media coverage and speculation, and more knick-knacks featuring their likenesses and wedding date than she even knew to exist. She'd been born into this and she still found it peculiar that people were buying dish towels with their faces on it. She hadn't really known how to explain it to him in a way that made sense.
But she had more pressing matters than rationalizing why t-shirts, tote bags, and china sets emblazoned with their appearances were selling faster than shops could stock them. From the first interview, opinions ranged from her own family to the servers at the café they both loved to visit in disguise: Princess Sonia's fiancé was too thin, too pale, with strange hair and such a quiet and awkward personality. He'll never outshine his wife, that's for sure. And no real family to speak of? They met at the Princess' private school in Japan, but what makes him special enough to be the other half to the Royal Love Story? The official biographer had her work cut out for her, and a month before the wedding had embellished their courtship to be a fairy tale fit for a princess, with a dashing, brave hero who rescued Sonia's heart from loneliness. At least, her mother had said to both Sonia and the biographer, they could play up the fact he wasn't poor. If the public opinion varied, the Royal Family's opinion was even more polarizing.
Passing her favorite wine cellar and her occult room, Sonia took the spiral stone staircase two at a time, her pale hand gripping the banister. Their temporary wing of Novoselic Castle was smaller than most and rather drafty, but at least it was further away from both her mother and father's sets of rooms. Outfitted in the favored shades of light green and gold, she'd promised Nagito that it was only going to be their home for a little while, while Boudry House, the capital's official Royal Residence, was being renovated. Taking up an entire city block, that had been the first gift her father had given them: a home with ten bedrooms, fourteen bathrooms, five offices, a formal and an informal dining room, a library, a study, a sitting room, an entertainment room, a full kitchen and pantry, and more, not to mention the staff to maintain it, including their personal assistants, secretaries, and security. This was still smaller and less luxurious than Novoselic Castle itself, but at least it would be theirs to call their own. That was enough to excite her, though when she'd taken Nagito there for the first time, she was sure he'd adore the garden. The house bordered the capital's largest and busiest park, with a section of greenery fenced off with large hedges just for the house's use. They could plant what they liked, or arrange outdoor furniture into a private oasis from the hustle of royal life. It was the perfect place for their future pets, and eventually children, to appreciate and enjoy nature, quiet and tranquil.
"Nagito?" She called out softly, pushing the painting of her 16th century ancestors aside. The underground passages were supposed to be hidden, but he was family now. Her family, and Sonia had taken every opportunity she could to show him how to move about the castle with little to bother him. Stepping through, she looked across the room to him, or rather his retreating back as he seemingly stood in front of the full-length mirror, with a gentle smile. There was little doubt he was admiring, or at least in shock by, the second gift. "I returned home as fast as I could. I'm so sorry I couldn't have been by your side when they arrived."
She was probably one of the only people in the world who still called him 'Nagito.' When she'd brought him to meet her family for the first time and when they'd gotten engaged, he'd been referred to as 'Mr. Komaeda.' But now he was royal by marriage, from titles her father had warmly, kindly, bestowed upon him on their wedding day. Informally, he was 'Nagito Komaeda' but the world knew him by 'His Royal Highness' and the dukedom he now held. For all the speculation the media had made over his new titles, insisting the King of Novoselic had been too generous by giving Nagito the title of Prince, it had all been done to fulfill Sonia's request: that he would have a family where he belonged.
But the decision had been agreed upon at the very last minute, far before the official medals and insignias could be crafted for their nuptials. So while he wore the proper non-military wedding attire, complete with white tie and morning coat, the decoration he'd worn, seen across the world, had been antiques from the Novoselic National History Museum. The pieces had been selected to closely resemble the real ones he'd eventually wear for the most formal of occasions and couldn't be discernible from far away, but that hadn't mattered: up close, her family and the aristocracy still whispered that the new prince was wearing someone else's earned titles and achievements the day he married Princess Sonia. Picking over his hair, no matter how elegantly he'd tied it back, and his posture no longer was enough to amuse them.
But today would change everything. Today, the official medals and ribbons for his new titles had arrived, fashioned in a royal design that she'd insisted he help with. Something that signified he was part of her family now but still retained a design that was uniquely his. That when he looked down, he'd never forget that he was no longer alone. While her entire family hadn't completely warmed to him yet, they were coming around. He was hers, and he was here to stay.
Surely he could see her in the mirror as she crept up behind him, and yet Sonia hardly cared. Instead she moved to his side, placing a kiss upon his cheek as the gold, emeralds, and diamonds of his new accessories sparkled, reflecting the light from the chandelier. "You look beautiful," She whispered in his ear. "Welcome to the family, my love."

Rough Diamond - Chapter Three: Into The Unknown Team
A Week Later…
Postwick…
Something she had discovered about Blaze after spending their first night together—he was a snuggle monster. He made a beeline for her bed and buried himself under her quilt and blankets. The fire-type seemed content to sleep by her side and Gloria had to admit, it was nice having a warm plushie-like figure to sleep with at night.
Second thing she discovered about her newest partner—he was insanely fast. Even without the use of Quick Attack, Blaze had some fast feet. Something she was more than happy to have in battle. But chasing after him had been another thing entirely. He’d zip away when she’d tried to get him back into his ball. Eventually, she just gave up after her father told her that out of the three he gave to Leon, Blaze despised his pokeball.
But she had spent the week training and getting to know Blaze a little better. Most of the time, she had been out in the Wild Area and would return home in the afternoon. Charlie and Sonia had uploaded the Pokedex app onto hers and Hop’s phones. Both of their families had gifted them camping supplies and one of those never-ending space bags that were popular in Kanto. All that was left for them was to grab their Dynamax bands from Professor Magnolia.
“Gloria! You’ll be late for the train if you don’t head off now,” she heard her mother shout from downstairs.
“I’m coming!” she shouted back, fixing her black ripped jeans. Glancing one last time in the mirror, she combed her hair back and tied it up into a small ponytail. Maybe I should let it grow out more…
“Gloria Elizabeth Aegis!”
The brunette groaned, grabbing her brown backpack and left her room. Running downstairs, she found Hop waiting in the foyer with her mother and Victor who had Blaze snuggled in his arms.
“Honestly, what could be taking you so long to get dressed? You’re participating in the Gym Challenge. Not Love Islands,” Kathleen clucked her tongue as Blaze jumped out of Victor’s arms and onto her shoulder. “I’ve phoned ahead to the professor to let her know you’re on your way.”
“Thanks Kathy,” Hop smiled, hands in his pockets.
“Call us when you’ve arrived at Motostoke. Be safe you two,” Kathleen told them, looking between the two teens. Victor hugged his little sister before messing with her hair.
“Piss off,” she swiped at him, fixing her hair immediately as he laughed.
“Just have fun you guys. And know I’m betting on you two to take down Lee,” Victor said as Hop beamed. Checking the time on her watch, Kathleen ushered them out of the house.
“We better get going. I can’t wait to get my band,” Hop told her as they walked down the front steps of Gloria’s place. A few Wooloo cried in the distance as the morning sun shone down.
Out of habit, Gloria glanced at the fence that blocked off the Slumbering Weald and found it thrown open. “Hop,” she tugged at his sleeve, pointing it out.
His eyes widened. “Crap. There was a Wooloo there earlier tackling it. I didn’t think it’d actually bust through,” he said and she stared at him.
“You didn’t think a Pokémon using a physical attack move could break down an old wooden fence?” she asked sarcastically, shaking her head at him and headed in.
“What are you doing?” he asked, grabbing her wrist.
“Going to get the Wooloo out of there.”
“But it’s off-limits. Nobody’s supposed to go in there,” he reminded her. “Remember when the professor’s granddaughter went in once, and she came back in a real state.”
Gloria frowned. “Yeah but I went in there too and came back fine,” she pointed out, shaking off his grip and taking her wrist back. “Look, I’m going in there with or without you,” she said, marching on.
Hop groaned and ran after her, glaring at her smile. “This doesn’t mean you’re right. This is just the kind of scene where you simply have to do what’s needed!”
“Whatever you say, Hop,” she responded, letting Rookie out of his ball when the fog began rolling in. “Remember this place buddy?”
“Corvi,” Rookie chirped, looking around.
“There’s a Wooloo that’s gone missing. Take to the skies and see if you can find him from above,” she instructed as he nodded, taking off. He flew through the trees disappearing from their sight. “Stick close. It’s only fog from here on out.”
“Right,” he murmured, standing closer to Gloria as they began walking through. Blaze was staring at the forest in awe. “That Wooloo…where do you think it got off to?”
“Not sure,” she admitted, taking in the surrounding area. The sounds of many different Pokémon cries, singing their tunes. Barely any sunlight managed to break through the thick leaves on the dozens of trees. The air was cool, a slight breeze running through and stirring up the leaves on the ground. The forest hadn’t changed since she was a child.
I wonder if that large Pokémon is still here, she wondered, coming across the small pond. “Careful to not slip,” she told Hop as she jumped on the small stone and got across.
“You seem at home in here,” Hop noted as they continued on, walking across the old, stone bridge. Covered in vines, leaves and moss…it had been here for a long time.
“Yeah,” she agreed, smiling a little. “It’s…it’s hard to explain but there’s just something that calls to me in here. And don’t you think it’s fascinating that time just stands still in here?”
He stared at her as she stood still, gazing softly at the dark forest. “Like there’s someone waiting for you in here,” he said, and she whirled around, beaming at him.
“Exactly. I knew you’d get it,” she said and Hop chuckled, lightly elbowing her in the side.
“I still think you’re barmy,” he winked and grabbed her wrist. “We better keep going or else that Wooloo might be in real trouble.”
She followed as they jogged further in. Just as she remembered from her childhood, the deeper they went in, the denser the fog became. Hope kept a hold on her wrist and eventually moved to her hand in order for them to not lose each other.
“This is mad!” Hope swore, squinting his eyes as they slowed to a walk. “I can’t even see my own hand in front of my face.”
“It gets worse the further we go in.”
“I think I get now why this place is off-limits,” he muttered as a large figure appeared in the fog. Hop flinched at the sight of the large, scarred dog-like Pokémon while Gloria beamed.
“It’s you again,” she smiled as its yellow eyes focused on her again. “Thank you for helping Rookie and I out that time.”
It growled low as she held a hand outwards. It stared at the hand for a moment before sniffing it. It’s ears, which had been previously close to its head were standing up straight.
“We need your help again. A Wooloo has gone missing around here,” Ria continued as it pulled back. It howled, the loud sound forcing the teens to cover their ears and more fog was released, covering the area.
“Ria!” Hop called out. “I can’t see anything. You okay?”
“I’m…I’m fine.” She answered, feeling a little weak in the knees and exhaustion washed over her. Her eyelids felt heavy and she struggled to keep them open any longer. It was if the fog itself was sucking all of the energy out of her body. “Hop…”
He called her name again as she collapsed onto the ground, darkness taking her.
We have waited for you, children of Alastair and Sander.
When she came to, Hop’s golden gaze was staring at her and his brows were furrowed. Behind him were the large, dark trees of the Slumbering Weald. Something warm was on her chest and she looked down, finding Blaze on her with his little paws gripping her grey cardigan.
“Ria, thank Arceus you’re awake,” Hop sighed, holding her tighter in his arms. She soon wiggled out of his arms and rose to her feet, holding the shaking Blaze in her arms. He must’ve been frightened by what happened.
“What happened?” she asked as she put her fingers to her lips, whistling for Rookie to return to her.
“I’m not sure, mate.” Hop admitted. “I was clonked out like you and woke up here. Heard Blaze here crying and saw you unconscious,” he shook his head, staring at her. “Gave me a real fright. Did this happen last time?”
Ria shook her head as she heard Rookie’s cry ring out across the forest. She whistled once more, hearing him draw closer—along with Leon.
“Wha—? Lee?” Hop exclaimed as his older brother broke through some thick bushes along with Rookie. Ria’s Pokémon landed in front of her as Leon checked on the pair. “How’d you manage to find your way here? You’re pants with directions. You always get lost.”
Leon shot him a glare. “Oh, that’s nice to hear from the little brother who had me worried sick,” he snapped at him before pointing his head at Rookie. “I’d been waiting for ages for you two and when you never showed up, I went to Ria’s place. Rookie found me and brought me to you guys.”
Ria crouched down, stroking her partner’s head. “Thanks for getting help,” she said as he nudged her hand.
“Where’s the Wooloo? We were trying to rescue that Wooloo.”
“The little chap’s fine by the entrance. Charizard is with him,” Leon answered, crossing his arms over his chest. “But you two know this place is off-bounds. However, it took courage to come in here all the same. And I can understand well enough why you did it.”
Hop rubbed the back of his neck, smiling. “At least that Wooloo’s all right.”
“Come on you two, let’s get out of this place. You’ll be all right now that I’m here with you,” Leon said, walking ahead. The two soon followed and Ria noticed Hop sticking close to her side.
“You okay?’ she asked him quietly and he nodded.
“Yeah. Just shaking off the shock,” he reassured her with a smile. “Even if we did get an earful from Lee, what an experience. This’ll make a pretty fine first page in the tale of my legend.”
oOo
A Few Hours Later…
After a flock of Wooloo halted their train ride to Motostoke, the teens were walking through the smaller Wild Area outside the great city. Eventually Hop parted ways to have one last training session before the opening ceremony tomorrow. They promised to meet up at the stadium so they could sign up together—something the darker teen made her swear by.
As she was walking along the Axel Lake, Rommie flew out of her pocket with Teddy’s ringtone playing. “Teddy’s requesting a video call.”
“Put him through,” she instructed, coming to a stop. Blaze jumped out of her arms, choosing to run around the area. “Stick close by where I can see you.”
“Bun!” Blaze answered back, disappearing into the bushes.
“Sounds like you’ve got your hands full already,” Teddy chuckled as his image flicked onto the small phone screen. He was the spitting image of their father—the same black hair and the Sycamore grey eyes—but he had a large scar across his left eye from a Pyroar a few years ago. Teddy jokes that it’s the only way people could tell him and their father apart. “I wanted to wish you luck on your journey. Sorry I couldn’t be there to see you off.”
Ria shrugged her shoulders. “It’s fine. People in Almia just don’t get how big the Gym Challenge is. They don’t even have a league there.”
“Aye but all the same, I’ve missed out on a family reunion. Have you got a game plan?”
“I picked up a Scorbunny. Both my fire and flying types will be at an advantage against Milo. I just need to get my hands on either an electric or a grass-type for Nessa’s gym. I’ll be able to find a water-type in Hulbury somewhere for Kabu’s gym.”
“Good. Make sure to follow through on your plan. I’ve got my TV set up to record all of yours and Hop’s matches. Tell him good luck for me next time you see him.”
“I will,” she promised as Blaze’s cried out. Frowning, she, and Rookie rushed over to where her smaller Pokémon just as a small explosion erupted. Dirt and dust flew into the air and Ria coughed a few times, swiping it away. “Blaze? Are you okay?”
“Bun, bun,” the small Pokémon confirmed as she discovered a small, lighter coloured Budew shivering behind him. Blaze was protecting it from his stance, and she glanced to where he was glaring. A couple of Nickit were on the ground, clearly injured and growling at Blaze.
They were attacking this Budew. Or at the very least antagonising it, she realised, running over, and picking up the Budew in her arms. “Rookie, use Air Slash to clear them away,” she ordered as he sprung into action. Using his large wings, he sent gusts of razor-sharp air pockets to whip them away. Only one hung onto the ground and sprinted towards Blaze once the air died down. “Blaze, use Quick Attack.”
Blaze disappeared for a split second before reappearing and knocking into the last Nickit. The collision sent the dark-type flying through the air and landing on the ground, completely knocked out. Seeing the enemy defeated, the fire-type spun around to flash them a wide grin.
“Good job bud,” Gloria complimented and knelt down to gently place the Budew onto the ground. A flash of light caught everyone’s attention and it turned out the source was none other than Blaze himself. Having seen an evolution in progress plenty of times at her father’s day care, the brunette watched in fascination. His body began to grow in height and width, his ears getting longer and flopping down. When the light disappeared, Blaze had finished his evolution and was staring at his paws in fascination.
“You got him to evolve already?” Teddy’s voice interrupted her stare, alerting her to the fact that he was still on the phone. “That was too quick. What kind of training regime have you been doing with him?”
“The same one as Rookie’s,” she answered, eyes flicking over to the floating Rotom phone. “Rommie, scan Blaze and bring up his Pokedex entry.”
“Okie dokie,” she chirped, quickly scanning Blaze’s form and brought the information up on the screen.
Raboot, the Rabbit Pokémon and the evolved form of Scorbunny. It’s thick and fluffy fur protects it from the cold and enables it to use hotter fire moves. It kicks berries right off the branches of trees and then juggles them with its feet, practicing its footwork.
“Congrats on evolving, Blaze,” she smiled as he checked on the Budew. Seeing how he checked for injuries had Gloria smiling widely. She also couldn’t help but stare at the different coloured Budew. It’s outer layer was a brighter green and the little bits of petal on its front was purple instead of the usual darker green. It took her a moment to realise that the Budew in front of her was an infamous ‘shiny’ Pokémon. Gloria had planned on obtaining a Pokémon for Nessa’s gym and the Budew line tended to have higher special attack stats. “Hey Budew,” Gloria caught its attention and smiled. “How would you like to come with us?”
Budew glanced at Blaze who gave her a nod. Encouraged, Budew walked closer to the teen and lightly tapped its head against the outstretched Pokeball. After disappearing and a few tense seconds later, Gloria had added a Budew to her team.
A quick scan on her Pokedex showed that this Budew was a female and had the ability of natural cure. An ability that would no doubt come in handy during the Gym Challenge.
Gloria released the Budew and pondered over a name. Not wanting for Victor to make fun of her again, she moved away from the obvious choice of Rose. Finally, after musing over a few choices, she smiled at her new Pokémon. “How does the name Pollen sound?”
“Budew,” she chimed happily as Rommie registered the name.
“Welcome to the team, Pollen.”

Danganronpa SU AU (Version 1)
(complicated ass title, my GOD)
Ah, here it is! After getting that lovely request, I didn’t make art (yet), but I did come up with the whole fucking universe (which took me like four hours but what else do I do with my life)
Now, mind you that there are two versions to this. One, which I will write below, describes a tale similar to the actual story with a Sondam child and everything, and the other, which will be posted later. Both will be opened up for questions, but please specify which version before asking!
Samuel Tanaka Race: Half-Gem, Half-Human Parents: Gundham Tanaka and Citrine (AKA Sonia Nevermind) Gem: Citrine He is a small 12 year old boy who grew up in a small kingdom outside of Novoselic with grey-blonde hair and blue eyes. Raised by his single dad in a pet shop, Sammy has a strong connection to animals and loves taking care of them. He was also raised by the Crystal Gems, a band of aliens that were a part of his late mother’s family. His weapon is a sword, passed down from his mother through her gem. He also has a pet ferret named Ginger.
Gundham Tanaka Race: Human He is a dark-haired male with heterochromia and owns a pet shop in town. In his youth, he met a pale blonde woman on the beach (previously, he was helping turtles into the ocean) by the name of Citrine and they fell in love. Even after she passed, he does his best to raise his son the way she would’ve wanted.
Smokey Quartz (Ishida Kiyondo) Race: Gem He is not particularly bigger than the others, but he has two gems, located on both hands. His hair is white and has dark eyes and is usually seen wearing an open ripped up jacket and bandages covering his torso. He is described as a disciplinarian, but has quite has a foul vocabulary. He actually a fusion between White Quartz and Amethyst, who don’t separate often unless they are arguing over something and can’t keep it together. His weapon is a pickaxe.
White Quartz (Kiyotaka Ishimaru) Race: Gem He is the smaller of the two with pale grey hair and dark red eyes, which was an irregularity against gems like himself. His gem is located on his left hand. He was once a gem from Homeworld, under the thumb of Yellow Diamond (AKA Junko Enoshima) to be a replacement of the pearl she shattered. By mistake, he and a soldier of White Diamond (AKA Daiya Oowada), Amethyst accidentally fused and became Smokey Quartz. After being hunted down by Yellow Diamond’s lackeys, they came across Citrine and came to live on Earth. White Quartz is the more rational and logical of the two. He also happens to be the loudest and is sensitive to certain topics enough where he could cry. His weapon is a staff that is used mainly for defense.
Amethyst (Mondo Oowada) Race: Gem He is the larger of the two with dark hair in a ridiculous “pompadour” hairstyle and light purple eyes. His gem is located on his right hand. He was a soldier in White Diamond’s legion and practically his second-in-command. After accidentally fusing with White Quartz, they are hunted down till they are found by Citrine and come to live on Earth since. He is loud and has a short temper and gets mad really easily. Being a soldier, he knows how to handle things with his fists than his head. His weapon are a pair of brass knuckles that appear on his right hand.
Pink Spinel (Kazuichi Souda) Race: Gem He is more rational than most and always seemed to be found fixing machinery and such. His gem is located on his left side, around his hip and hidden in his clothes. He has long spiky pink hair and bright pink eyes along with teeth that could be sharper than a shark’s. He was infatuated with Citrine and rivaled with Gundham often for her. After she died, he took it upon himself to help on raising her son. When asked about how he fell in love with Citrine, he changes the subject (his past is not something he likes talking about). His weapon is a giant wrench.
Pearl (Makoto Naegi) Race: Gem Compared to most pearls, he is much more friendly and loves talking to people and is just all around a person who can lift other’s spirits. His gem is located on his forehead, under his hair. He has light tan hair and light green eyes. Most people call him hopeful and he gets along with Samuel the best. His weapon is a gun that contains hope bullets.
Citrine (Sonia Nevermind) Race: Gem The leader of the resistance against Homeworld and the proud protector of Earth, she led the gems to victory in battle for their freedom. She was considered to be a kind and thoughtful person who loved all humans. She was also considered very mysterious for all the secrets she holds. Years pass and she eventually comes across a human by the name of Gundham Tanaka and together, they have a son. However, since they can’t exist as the same time, when Samuel was born, Citrine was gone. She had pale blonde hair and bright blue eyes. Her gem was located on her chest, between her collar bone. Her weapon was a sword that was eventually passed onto her son.

Loving Interactions meme
The instructions had been so simple, there was no possible way for Sonia to misinterpret them: to put on one of the dozens of gowns that were otherwise collecting dust in her wardrobe and come to the main hall at seven. Perhaps in another version of her life, she might have found it impertinent that, as Queen, she was taking orders from someone else. But frankly, she was simply too tired: tired of every nightmare, every memory, but mostly, trying to conceive of every possible reason to spurn him and his company, which now had lingered in the castle for months on end.
But her express order to rid her room of every reflective surface larger than her cosmetics mirror now proved a challenge: standing in her underwear and a face of makeup she’d applied herself that had turned out nicer than she thought it would, she now faced a rainbow of sparkle, satin, and shine of varying necklines and skirt widths with no idea of what to choose. Except, of course, anything that reminded her of her time as a princess and that hideous ruler that had nearly destroyed everything she held dear: white, cream, red, and pink were all now no good. And as much as she wanted to lean towards the opposite, her comfort color since her return to Novoselic, Sonia only ran her hand down the black sequin one-shouldered gown before pushing the hanger aside. That didn’t suit the mood either.
“Mint, blush, lilac, lavender, magenta...none of these are right,” She muttered, pushing more hangers to join the one holding up the slinky black gown, their sound scraping against the metal bar that held up the weight of her formalwear. It was nearly a lost cause and the clock was ticking fast, the sun already sinking low in the sky just beyond her balcony. Sonia had nearly reached the back of the closet and while she was determined not to be late, especially due to a crisis of fashion, she couldn’t help but worry that it was going to be inevitable. Pale shades didn’t feel right, reminding her of the princess she was, and anything that could bring her memories of those horrid gowns, constructed to show and hide blood for various situations were not viable options. Letting out a heavy sigh, Sonia leaned against the empty wall beside the rack of dresses, sliding down to a sitting position just beside her pair of glittering silver heels. Careful not to cast her gaze downward, she reached up to grasp at the velvet tray of jewels she’d summoned from the royal vault: diamonds she hadn’t seen since her parents were alive, when her mother wore them for state dinners only after Sonia begged to try them on first. They’d sparkle even in the faintest of light: the set of earrings, the bracelet, and tiara made to resemble woven flowers and covered with hundreds upon hundreds of stones. While she didn’t feel that hairbows and flowered bands suited her anymore, it was a gentle nod to the optimistic, kind girl she used to be.
Picking the tiara up with trembling hands, it would be the first time she’d wear one since the New Years Day address, and all of the emotions that had swirled within her as she’d tried to speak in confidence and with a smile and had just barely succeeded, downing an entire bottle of wine by herself almost as soon as the cameras stopped rolling. That crown had felt so heavy in comparison: this one was surprisingly light and slightly whimsical, the first accessory she’d seen and held in a long time, smiling as she was reminded of the life that flourished inside the castle and throughout the country before everything had gone so wrong. Pink lips formed into a smile as the overhead lights of her closet allowed the diamonds to twinkle back at her, as well as something else...something her left arm was brushing against. Turning to face the mesh that now tickled her skin, Sonia’s gaze came face to face with layers of tulle with an embroidered floral hem that covered an opaque silk layer underneath. Setting the tiara down, Sonia quickly scrambled to her feet to pull the gown from the rack with a deep breath: not quite black but not quite bright either: midnight blue with full skirt with thick straps that would rest just off her shoulders. It would be more than suitable.
Removing it from its hanger and stepping into the pool of skirts at her feet, Sonia pulled it up with relative ease, zipping up the side closure before she had a chance to fixate on the scars the silk hid beneath it. The jewelry and shoes were added after, the tiara highlighting one other attribute she could finally, confidently, wear again: her hair, still long and having regained most of its body and luster since she’d left the island, down her back, not an updo in sight. In the cosmetics mirror, it had already brightened up her complexion, another hint of who she used to be.
Standing straight, Sonia didn’t need a mirror to know that it was all a bit princessy, the sort of fantasy her classmates had always dreamed she lived. But now it hardly mattered. Now, she thought, she was ready to dream a little.
There was an eerie sort of quiet throughout the halls as she exited her room, taking the most direct route to the main hall. This time, with her permission, he’d dismissed most of the staff for the evening, save for whatever he had in mind. This she couldn’t fault him for: even with her family long gone, privacy was still a luxury she didn’t often have, from questions from ministers and parliament to the royal household. Even a queen hated and reviled by much of her people was still a queen in demand. And besides, that was how the stories went, didn’t they? On nights like this, the fairy tale heroes were never bothered unless it was the most opportune moment.
The click of her heels against the floor only paused once she’d reached the top of grand stairwell. Grasping the banister, she slowly took the stairs one at a time, inhaling deeply. It was silly: there was no reason to be nervous, they already knew so much, had done so much, she wasn’t meeting a stranger, not really. She was meeting someone she hadn’t come across for many years, since their time at school and due to circumstances they only wish they could have controlled more efficiently, they’d changed into people unrecognizable from their former selves, presences they had to banish from their hearts and minds both comatose and in the context of their darker, changed reality. Exhaling, Sonia stopped at the bottom of the stairs where he waited. There was no second-guessing her answer now: her decision to arrive on time and properly dressed only solidified that there was only one way she wanted her life to go: forward. It was time to stop being consumed by the past.
“I hope I’m not late,” She smiled softly, her way of announcing her arrival, “Though I have been brought up to understand that a queen is never late. Everyone else is simply early, no matter my country’s customs.”
But he’d had another way of greeting her, beyond a verbal assurance of her punctuality. Before she had a chance to react, one of Gundham’s hands reached for her own, bringing it to meet his lips. If she was attending a grand ball, Sonia would have found such a gesture to be the norm, acknowledging it with a gracious smile before making the small talk she had memorized prior. But this was entirely unexpected, causing her cheeks to flush light pink as a shiver went down her spine. Two things she hoped he didn’t notice as he straightened his posture and focused his gaze on her. He hadn’t needed to do that, both due to their night hardly being an official event and their rekindling friendship of sorts. Sonia didn’t really know how to define it: what did one call another whom they once loved emotionally and intimately, then hurt, then deserted, and now loved again? At least, as far as she knew, Gundham was ignorant of the last part.
“Thank you,” She continued, her own gaze meeting his as her smile, Sonia felt sure, now bordered on giddy entirely due to his kiss, “for arranging this. It’s so difficult to spend more than an hour or two with you without interruptions now and I’m so grateful.”
She didn’t know quite what was in store, but with the staff given the night off it was safe to assume that they weren’t leaving the castle, at least not dressed the way they were. On the streets of Novoselic’s capital, she was a glowing, sparkling target for acts of hatred. But within the castle walls, the possibility of a formal evening without the guests, the responsibility, and the stress was becoming more and more likely.
#(Loving Interactions meme)#Post-SDR2 verse#(And now for something far less depressing for this verse)#(Sonia hasn't felt much like embracing her title or fairy tales until now)#(probably after a lot of fights discussions and healing)#the-taboo-king
