oikawa tooru :
!!? KALI UCHIS STAN NEVER SPEAK 2 ME AGAIN. he LOVESSS her he is completely convinced isolation was specifically made to cater to him and his exact music taste delusional king fr!! and he gatekeeps her SO HARD like babes as much as i would like to be her top listener too, the 21,158,866 monthly listeners seem like they might be hard to beat 🤔
his favourite songs by kali uchis are :
tyrant - ft. jorgia smith on the isolation album.
i wish you roses (single).
loner on the por vida album.
!!? this artist is not a guilty pleasure no matter how many times he says he's sooo embarrassed he likes carly rae jepson. "omg stop don't tell people i like her that's humiliating omg stop i don't want people to know!!!!!!" he is a LIAR. he will publicly scream every single lyric to every single song she makes, IN FACT he will shamefully make tiktoks on public buses and shit, lip syncing to her songs on full volume (or at least he would if literally all of seijoh didn't tell him to shut the fuck up LMAO)
his favourite songs by carly rae jepson are :
call me maybe on the kiss album.
boy problems on the E•MO•TION album.
felt this way on the dedicated side b album.

garden shed - ft. estelle on the flower boy album.
SWEET / I THOUGHT YOU WANTED TO DANCE - ft. brent faiyaz and fana hues on the CALL ME IF YOU GET LOST album.
!!? is it controversial to say he fucks w ice spice.. almost a little too much... he knows all the lyrics to munch which is def something he has in common with oikawa's music taste!!! like at this point they're like pavlov's dog, they are absolutely salivating every single time they hear "stop playin with em riot!"
his favourite songs by ice spice are :
bikini bottom (single).
princess diana on the like..? EP.
in ha mood (single).
!!?—✩⌗ HONORABLE SONG MENTIONS : she likes another boy by oscar lang. attention by new jeans. just a stranger by kali uchis and steve lacy. NASA by ariana grande.
matsukawa issei :

his favourite songs by brent faiyaz are :
ADDICTIONS on the WASTELAND album.
what you heard (single) by sonder - technically still brent faiyaz.
talk 2 u on the sonder son album.
!!? he really should be ashamed he likes drake tbh. he physically could not compell himself to show anybody his spotify wrapped because almost all drake songs were in his top played. please never ever speak to him about the time he genuinely ugly cried to one dance. he will never elaborate and will probably go and sob to god's plan next.
his favourite songs by drake are :
way 2 sexy - ft. future and young thug on the certified lover boy album.
9 on the views album.
circo loco on the her loss album.
!!?—✩⌗ HONORABLE SONG MENTIONS : love is only a feeling by joey bada$$. small worlds by mac miller. awkward by SZA. finesse (remix) by bruno mars and cardi b.
hanamaki takahiro :
!!? ACTIVELY PUSHING THE MAKKI BRUNO MARS AGENDA!! fuck an evening with silk sonic he wants an evening with bruno 😭 all he is doing every day all day is praying bruno gets his heart broken again so he can drop another DELECTIBLE album!!!!! also him and iwa like to say that since makki is puerto rican and iwa is filipino, together they make one bruno mars <333 (this is a hc dont take it too srsly lol)
his favourite songs by bruno mars are :
that's what i like on the 24k magic album.
treasure on the unorthodox jukebox album.

!!? he is a dork and i am a dork soooo i'm gonna have to say he is a the living tombstone stan.... oikawa will go on full rants about how cringey 2020 was and how weird that video game animatronic type music is and he'll look over at makki and see the single tear roll down his face as he says he has no idea the music genre he's talking about 😭
his favourite songs by the living tombstone are :
my ordinary life (single).
drunk on the zero_one album.
jump up, super star! (single).

Ri. Ri. Ri the rizz master. Meron akong brainrot ulit 😭
beh, u should def watch maria clara at ibarra. Its so good like man 😩
but imagine… miguel/noir in a noli au. The clothes???? The plot??? The tagalog OMGGG, like imagine miguel using really old tagalog, as in, the days where ppl still used señor/señorita. Words like maharlika and the like. (Sana tama yung spelling ko hahahsj)
i could go on and on about imagining them in old filipino literature. I can’t. Im so far gone.
-leonara <3
NAKO ATE ARE YOU TRYNA KILL ME????????? man i found ibarra hot there though HE'S THE STANDARD YOU CAN'T BLAME MEEEEE
anyway, so imagine,
miguel o'hara in a noli au
ok so we were both colonized by the spanish right, so i think that YES, YOU BOTH WOULD'VE UNDERSTOOD EACH OTHER IN SPANISH KUNG MESTIZO/A KAYO; but if not, bc from what i remember, the indios weren't taught spanish, you'd kind of just..... listen to him, and if he says a word you understand in tagalog, you'd answer him in tagalog and JUST--
i think if you really didn't understand him bc of how malalim tagalog was back then, which was way more common than how my conyo ass speaks, you two probably wouldn't come to an understanding, you'd probably resort to using your body language to tell him LMAO
also am i the only one who thinks filipino/filipina beauty, doesn't matter if you're moreno/morena or pale or darker than that, really captivates miggy? like even if you didn't look like mestiza women at the time and were a pure-blooded filipino/filipina, HE WOULD BE ABSOLUTELY IN LOVE WITH HOW YOU LOOKED EVEN IF YOU DIDN'T GO ALL OUT FOR HIM (he knows you're perfect :>)
he would try to impress you with his spanish, but honestly, you couldn't care less bc YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND HALF THE SHIT HE'S SAYING, so you just... nod... and... leave.......
when you're waiting out by your window, or nagpapahangin lang ykyk kasi mas malamig noon, he'd call out to you and say you look lovely tonight in the MOST FANCY OLD TAGALOG WAY (fuck di ko alam kung paano, BUT LEMME TRY SOMETHING HUHU)
"aba'y binibini/ginoo... ikaw ay punong-puno ng kagandahan ngayong gabi; ang mga tala sa langit ay daig pa sa iyong ning-ning."
then he fuckin winks and you're dead
if you knew him ever since you were younger, he would write those letters ibarra sends maria clara, AND HE'D GAZE OVER AT YOU SO LOVINGLY AS YOU READ THEM OUT LOUD, AND WHEN HE CATCHES YOU BLUSHING HE'D SAY IT, HE'D CALL YOU OUT
"aking binibini, ika'y... namumula. kay ganda ng pula sa iyong mukha, ika'y tilang isang rosas na namumukadkad."
(((oh the urge to kiss him right then and there fuckkk)))
he would harana you. that is FINAL. he would sing in spanish because that's how he expresses himself best, and because he's more familiar with them. but i think he'd compose his own songs in spanish AND TAGALOG FOR U
IF YOU FR DON'T GET THE HINT HE LIKES YOU, HE WILL STRAIGHT UP ASK YOU ONE DAY IF YOU'D WANT TO RUN AWAY WITH HIM AND LET HIM TAKE CARE OF YOU
HE WANTS A FUCKING FUTURE WITH YOU AWAY FROM THE COLONIZERS AND BULLSHIT THAT'S HAPPENING IN THE NOLI AND WANTS TO SEE YOU SAFE AND SOUND. HE WILL KICK THE SHIT OUT OF THE GUARDIA CIVIL IF THEY FUCKING HURT YOU !!!!!!
"aking sinta, ipinapangako ko. hindi kita pakakawalan, hindi kita iiwanan sa impyernong ito, sapagkat ikaw ang natatanging liwanang sa aking buhay, ang tanging minamahal at mamahalin ko hanggang ako'y yumao't mawala sa mundo. nais kong maramdaman at maranasan mo na ikaw lang ang mundo ko. tu eres mi unico mundo." (shit sana tama AAAAAAA)
a/n: BIG THANK YOU TO ATE @binibinileonara FOR THE REQ AND INSPO, LOVE YOU PO ATEEE /platonically <333

London Trip Hop Playlist (YouTube)
Trip hop really got its start in Bristol sometime in the late 80s, but, like most UK genres that've been formed outside of London, it didn't take very long for it to then wind its way over there too, where a bunch of residents then proceeded to spawn a whole lot of dope stuff themselves. So here's an update to a playlist that I haven't added anything to in a while that gives a taste of what London was making in regards to this type of hip hop-derived, groovy, and stoned music between the early 90s and early 2000s, from the highly accessible Coldcut and DJ Vadim, to far more obscure acts like Tongue and Grantby 😊.
Now, over the past few weeks with these playlist posts, I've already talked a great deal about some of the terrific tracks that I added to this playlist this week, like Luke Vibert's Wu-Tang Clan-sampled "Get Your Head Down," London Funk Allstars' Baby Huey-and-James Brown-sampled "Junkies Bad Trip," and Common Ground's sort-of-Succession-theme-song-sounding "Dark Soul." They're all deserving of a ton of praise, but at the risk of getting repetitive, I'm not gonna explicitly highlight them again here.
So with that said, this update begins in 1995, with a song by a group from up in northeast England's Newcastle Upon Tyne called Emperors New Clothes, whose quietly spiritual and flute-led "Dark Light" received a trip hop remix treatment from London's Trevor Jackson, who would go on to become best known as Playgroup beginning in the early 2000s, but here, is operating under the moniker of Underdog. Jackson's remix brings a level of murkiness to the tune, as he adds a purely vintage boom-bappin' backbeat, a little xylo, some lonely, nocturnal trumpet, and then eventually his coup de grâce—purely wigged-out, acid-trippin' electric guitar 🤘. In 1999, this remix would appear on French native Kid Loco's excellent DJ-Kicks mix, and that specific version of it is the one that's now on this playlist here, currently sitting at over 6,500 plays.
Then immediately following that is a wonderful tune from the aforementioned Grantby, whose 1995 track, "Grimble," also appears on this playlist as it does on that same Kid Loco mix. This track is one that happens to be serenely dusty, as Grantby surrounds his kicks-and-snares with a soothing set of reflectively melancholic and watery guitar notes, with a soft and distant round of dissonant, electrochemical noises sandwiched between those sections as well. Currently at under 530 plays.
And for one last highlight from that DJ-Kicks mix, we have a remix of Saint Petersburg-born, London-raised DJ Vadim's "Theme From Conquest of the Irrational," by Copenhagen trio The Prunes. Now, if Vadim ever actually made an original mix version of "Theme From Conquest of the Irrational," I don't think that it's ever actually seen the light of day, because every version that I can find of either it or the similarly titled "Conquest of the Irrational" appears to be some kind of remix instead. So I'm not sure what exactly anyone was remixing in the first place, but be that as it may, this one has a lurking, sort-of cinematic 60s spy thriller vibe to it, which was a sound that definitely came back en vogue in the late 90s, as nostalgia for a retrofuturist cocktail lounge aesthetic became a little bit of a thing. And it also has a pretty similar sonic palette to a song like Mos Def's Yasiin Bey's "Auditorium," feat. Slick Rick as well, which came out more than a decade after this beat and was produced by Madlib. Contrary to the other two tracks I've highlighted above, though, this isn't the version of the song exactly as it appears on the Kid Loco mix, because I can't find it. Instead it's the full-length one, which has a little over 11.4K plays across a couple different YouTube uploads.
Emperors New Clothes - "Dark Light (Underdog Mix)" Grantby - "Grimble" Luke Vibert - "Get Your Head Down" London Funk Allstars - "Junkies Bad Trip" DJ Vadim - "Theme From Conquest of the Irrational (Remix by The Prunes)" Tongue - "Culture Consumers" Common Ground - "Dark Soul" The Funky Lowlives - "Notabossa"
And this playlist is also on YouTube Music.
So with this update, this collection now sits at 23 songs that total 130 minutes. One day I'll be able to find enough tunes to constitute a short Spotify playlist, but we're just not there yet.
And for a playlist of London trip hop tunes exclusively from the 90s (which isn't very much different from this playlist itself...yet), you can check that one out too:
1990s London Trip Hop: YouTube / YouTube Music
Next week we'll be tackling the adjacent genre of downtempo!
Enjoy!
More to come, eventually. Stay tuned!

I survived my visit to Plastic Beach
all i got was employment...
Anyways, minor update, I got employed, and I work evenings, these posts are now going to be more prone to changing post time, but they will still be out every week.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5 out of 5 stars)
Yeah, this album is a Gorillaz album, there's so many things to love and every song is unique yet ties in so well, lots of great names on this album too. I had a lot of fun!
Pretty much, if something is a 5 out of 5, I do see myself consistently coming back to it over time; as I see myself in the future with this album.
The big reason I had never properly listened to this album was that my parents did not have the CD and therefore I did not know this one existed until I was given internet access and I wasn't all that interested once I did. (Don't fight me but I've only really heard self-titled, Demon Days, and Cracker Island, and of course now, Plastic Beach)
Opinion Time! (as always, album order, not exactly any ranking order)
Briefly interupting my opinions I would like to share I will not be counting the orchestral pieces on this album within my rankings, they hold a special place in my heart and I love all of them, they all win/hj
"White Flag (feat. Bashy, Kano and the National Orchestra For Arabic Music)" is a super cool track, it has a lot going on and I find it to be pretty much the identity of this album. It's super cool, it incorporates everything on this album really well, and it's a super cool way to expose the setting of the album. I like it a lot, I like the orchestra stuff on it, I find the lyrics to be quite clever while still being cheeky and definitely Gorillaz.
"Superfast Jellyfish (feat. Gruff Rhys and De La Soul)" I pick out because I like the rap portions and how they work with Damon's choruses. I think this is another very Gorillaz song and it's very fun to listen to. I like that it has lots of noises and how they work in the song as well as the effects used on Damon's voice for the last chorus. I love music that sounds weird, you can't blame me.
"On Melancholy Hill" I picked out because I think I would be crucified if I did not. It's one of the big Gorillaz songs, and I'm kind of surprised I didn't know it better. It's a cool song, much more mellow (hah. I guess why/rh) and I like the role it takes on in the middle of the album and how it flows into "Broken". It's also nice to see a just Damon Albarn/Jamie Hewlett song. Damn good synths on this track too.
Honorable mentions!! 🥳🥳🥳
OK, I have a lot, this is a long album with loads of good stuff.
"Rhinestone Eyes" has lots of good sounds and noises and the melody in the "That's electric" portion on this one gets stuck in my head
"Stylo (feat. Mos Def and Bobby Womack)" I like the chorus on this one, I enjoy the whole composition n this song and the LAYERS wow.
"Empire Ants (feat. Little Dragon) I gotta give the song with a Latin beat a shout, I like the way it uses it in a more subtle way, it's fun. I also love how tender this sound sounds and then the transition and juxtaposition to Little Dragon's section.
"Some Kind of Nature (feat. Lou Reed)" I just love how their voices mesh together and I like the piano on this track.
"Broken" I like how it flows from "Melancholy Hill" I think it complements this song really well, yet it still is distinct in its identity.
"Sweepstakes (feat. Mos Def. and Hypnotic Brass Ensemble) has more noises and I just love how this one sounds, it's eerie in a really good way. I also love the band coming in at the end, this song sounds so full in the best way.
Yeah I like Gorillaz, shocking./j

what rap songs, albums that turned you into hiphop head
i grew up somewhere that nobody rly listened to hiphop so was always peripherally interested but didn't really get into it until i was about 19. so i clearly remember the stuff that drew me in!
some songs: norf norf by vince staples (and the album), chum by earl sweatshirt, collard greens by schoolboy q, m.a.a.d. city by kendrick lamar, ice cream by wu-tang
some albums: the sun's tirade by isaiah rashad, mm...food by mf doom, the low end theory by a tribe called quest, black on both sides by mos def
also watching freestyle videos on youtube like kendrick on monster in the early days, and interviews with like asap crew or lil uzi or whoever
probably pretty typical path for someone with a rock bg ^_^
#i used to like watsky but not really anymore hahaha#i forgot how heavy on the tde i was lol#i used to think lil wayne was a joke and now he's one of my favs#but always liked 50 cent and tupac as a kid

The whole email breakup thing always sounded ridiculous to me but since it allegedly came from a friend of Pat's, I gave it the benefit of the doubt. But yeah no that's insane, no normal person would end a 6.5 rs/engagement over email. Imo she'd planned months before for the music video to be filmed in the UK so as to be able to spend Easter break with Joe, bc both of them knew that Joe would be working until May and according to what Tree put out at the time, he'd be joining Taylor on tour after that. So I do think the MV was shot in the UK as part of an original plan to spend Easter together there. But imo from the moment she stood on that stage in Glendale on opening night and saw tens of thousands of ppl all but worshipping her, and Joe could not even be arsed to at least care about this massive career milestone, she came to the painful realization that it was time to go, and she planned to do it in person when they would see each other in the UK for Easter. So during those first weeks of tour I imagine that (aside from being extremely happy and excited for tour) she pondered how to go about it and the logistics etc yk, mentally preparing herself for it, probably going back and forth on doing it or not. Clearly she ultimately decided it had to happen this time for real, they'd been unhappy for months and I do think Joe taking another last minute job and not giving a single fuck about Eras was a final straw. So she knew it was Over over during those first weeks of tour and imo that's why she was crying during CP in Glendale N2. Anon mentioned that maybe she was apprehensive about doing it in person bc they could end up fucking and she needed to end it for real, but I don't think that was even an issue for her bc imo late stage Swiftwyn sex was like those scenes in Blue Valentine where the couple clearly has fallen out of love but they still try to have sex to get off and let out frustration but neither of them are really into it and lowkey hate it and yeah idk it's devastating to watch lol it's so fucking sad. At that point imo Swiftwyn were very unhappy and in a "you do you and I'll do me" MO so it tracks that Joe didn't see it coming right, cos they'd sorta gotten familiar/used to the unhappinness. Imo if she hadn't broken it off and instead insisted on getting married, he would've done it and they would've continued to leave unhappily and/or gotten divorced eventually, so Joe must've defs been relieved that she ended it. If they'd had kids before shit started to go down at the end of 2021, I do think they would've married for the bebé and would've probs gotten divorced once the bebé/bebés became adults a la Scott and Andrea.
I 1000% agree that she was involved emotionally with Matty since at least January of this year. Idk if I think it got to the point of actual physical cheating yk I tend to think that maybe not since her and Joe respected each other so much but she does historically cheat when she's desperate to get out of a rs so who knows 🤷🏻♀️ she was miserable and Matty was there all head over heels for her and ofc the attention was appealing after she'd felt so rejected/unnapreciated by her partner for months. I am SO so curious about that 1975 collab song that was scrapped from Midnights 👀👀 I wonder if it's telling of how far back (second half of 2022 maybe) the affair with Matty goes, and if she left it out of the album bc she was still trying to save her rs with Joe. I really do think that, in spite of everything, Taylor fought VERY hard to fix their issues and solve their problems, like I really do think she gave it her all trying to save it but ultimately it became clear that it was unsalvageable. When they first became a couple they both thought their lives would be going in completely different directions (she thought her peak as a pop star was gone and she would move to more BTS stuff and live a calmer life in North London with him, he thought his acting career would take off after The Favourite and CWF and he'd become some Nic Hoult/Paul Mescal etc.) than where they both are today, and so they became very incompatible to the point where all the love they had for each other wasn't enough to keep them in love together.
I love u but this is a fucking dissertation dude I’m not gonna read all this but I’m sure ur right because your takes are always on point so I’m posting for people with a longer attention span than me and I’m gonna text just now to check you’re ok lmao because dissertations about Joever are usually a sign one isn’t 😂🙈🤷🏻♀️

25.3.
I'm 40. damn bro.
I finished Mark's book about not giving a fuck and it was really good.
there was a part about death that i found most intriguing, saying that if death is inevitable you might as well live until it comes. which is true and something i've been struggling with since my mom died.
Idk now if I said it in the last post but I also finished Dan's book and it was so helpful, I really wish I could force my teens to read it. (lovingly)
i'm now listening to "because internet" which is a fun linguistic study of internet language.
today i finally made crepes on the crepe maker E gave me ages ago. depression had a hold on me so i couldn't try it for ages but finally i'm there! i need to buy milk and mineral water for good pancakes but the experiment was a success!
in pogo news, I did groudon and kyogre raids and ... got nothing special :D but raiding was fun :D annoying tho that it's obvious you just can't have certain pokemon on certain levels. i played with my secondary, much lower account, and it just wouldn't let me catch groudon, even tho i won 3 raids for it. boo.
This weekend was Intense.
On friday i had my korean lesson and then met up with F for Zone of Interest. It was a great movie, I was immersed in it to the point that I kinda forgot it wasn't present. I also couldn't help but draw parallels to gaza but apparently I'm not allowed to talk about that.
Satuday was raid day and then Sunday I went to the protest. This time I got a flag and I made it all the way to the end of the protest! (minus the dancing, i went home for that :D ) it was ok despite my horrific anxiety making my back hurt and some details I didn't like (a guy spilled a bag of flour to prove some point but like... why are you spilling food while pointing out people are staving pls.) it was quite interesting how I spent most of the day today trying to see myself in pics and vids of the protest and only found ONE pic. soothes my anxiety a little, knowing i'm invisible :D
i've been following exercises from here and i've been increasing the number and length, i'm pleased! My flat is currently fairly clean and things are mostly in their place. yay mental health? and on the note of mental health i'm working on my fic again slowly too.
I did end up buying all the currently published Mo Dao Zu Shi comics :D which is 5 :D oh well! I'm also going to get a in person local Korean teacher. It'll cost a bit but it's fine I hope. Meanwhile I tested spotify and i don't like it. the organization is sadly a mess. the main feature i miss is the ability to see all songs by an artist. without that, their whole app is useless to me. I watched cooking crush and it's a really good show, I recommend it to all my friends now :D even tho the asian parent thing... it's not for me. i'm too chill toward my family even for my culture.
I got tickets for a musical in april, which i'll see with a student. (and another student is in the musical!)
had some good talks with my therapist, mainly about whether or not i care about being fat. i combined this with a chapter from mark's book, and it's quite simple i think. do i care? somewhat. certainly some mobility is not as it should be and i def want to fix that part. but a lot of my feelings about my own body are from outside. and he talks about how wanting to be something isn't the same as wanting to do the work for it, and that's basically it. would i like to be skinny? sure. am i willing to do the work for it? ... not? really? at least not now.
anyway exams are approaching, the end of this career is approaching. i'm chewing on that but so far i haven't reached anything specific. i need to write an email to the company i'm gonna ask for help, so this is my reminder to do that tomorrow :D
happy skz day :D my babies are 6! <3

Things that have preoccupied my mind in January 2024
Starting off strong, here is a podcast by Ezra talking about How to discover your own taste, below a screenshot on a point they talk about:
And with that, here are some things that have preoccupied my mind either I liked, or didn't like.
Movies:
May December - I am not sure how I feel about this movie. The acting was superb from all three stars - Natalie Portman, Julianne Moore and Charles Melton. It is a film inspired on the real life relationship of Mary Kay Letourneau and her former student Vili Fualaau. I found the film uncomfortable to watch, Elizabeth (played by Natalie) uncomfortable. But perhaps I feel uncomfortable because the real and fake situation is uncomfortable. The film throughout had a really annoying piano riff as well.
Saltburn - I joined the hype train like everyone else. I felt like design, production, cast and costume was executed really well. I mean Rosamund Pike executed that aloof, condescending upper class woman so perfectly. The complex family dynamic and grief was interesting to observe. However, I felt like the shocking scenes lacked substance? As though it gave the film the PR it needed. Did we need them in order for the film to progress?
Music:
LSDXOXO because I loved his set when I saw Jeff Mills live. It always brings a huge smile to my face every time he spins the decks back during his set.
Alcatraz - Accidentally found them when I mistakened my friend telling me a tennis player vs. DJ. YouTube autocorrected me to these German boys. And well, they are a vibe, got me head bopping all across the central line.
I revisited Mos Def and MF Doom simultaneously, because I was sad I missed out on Mos Def tribute to MF Doom in Paris ❤️🩹
Hiatus Kaiyote Everything is Beautiful - my favourite neo-soul Australian band released their new single. Not my newest favourite but looking forward to listening to the whole album.
Jamie XX - It's so good and KILL DEM, He just produces really addictive beats. It won't surprise me if my Spotify 2024 wrapped has him as the number 1 & 2 songs I have listened on repeat.
Exhibitions:
Synchronicity, Solo Show, at 180 Studios - I have always enjoyed what the UVA team brought. To be honest I think more than anything I loved technology dystopian vibes and being in dark environments so you can concentrate on the art itself, not worry about how you are being perceived but perceiving the art in front of you. Perhaps sensory issues from my end.
Daido Moriyama, at Photographers Gallery. Explored over 60 years of his work at this exhibition. I left with more motivation to branch back into street photography. Not everything needs to have meaning or be unique/special. It can just be capturing ‘life’, who had photos of just a cat or a hat.
Skateboard Exhibition at the Design Museum - read through the history and cultural impact of skateboard culture from the inception in the 1950s to now. Enjoyed reading the descriptions, especially this last paragraph below. But man, Design Museum where is the flow? Why couldn’t they curate the experience better. Ugh.
Articles/thought pieces:
The case for mediocrity, an interesting read especially as someone who is still working on being less ambitious with their career. I appreciated that this article did acknowledge that being white and mediocre is easier to adopt this mantra than those who are not.
Friend or specifically third wheel sleepovers are really healing. Especially as I readjust to being by myself again.

Kick iii by Arca, another live listen and react from me myself and I.
👯♂️🕺💃👯♀️
Bruja: OH SHIT. ARRRRCA. I should be typing and listening but I'm swaying. There's more English and spanglish in this album which fans already knew. The second half oh my fucking God, she said let me turn up the techno variety up and hit you with all the sound. It's not in a bad way but if you don't like electronic or techno def not for you.
Morbo: And if the last track didn't prep you these sure fucking will.
Fiera: repeat what I just said but instead of it being just dark textures like morbo this is just extremely high energy.
Skull Queen: i fucking love this I fucking love this song.
(From this point on the album is very listenable to ppl who aren't so so into arca but still into experiemental)
Electra Rex: a great single choice for this album and good for easing folks into the more experimental parts of this album.
Ripples: she teased this years ago but the way I need to hear this with a full laser light show. See your ripple make ripples.
Rubberneck: I had to restart this half way cause its so good like im seeing a spy getting their movie entrance to this song, especially the first half. If I really felt like it I would put my editing skills to test with some scene packs.
Senorita: Fuck it up, it's like hip hop dubstep so Skrillex meets a limp wrist grindr hook up. The lyrics also on the side vulgar as always haha. Would fit perfectly it in 2k if it were clean, unclean would be perfect in cyberpunk 2077, or the new unreleased GTA.
My 2: I don't have any words kind of let the vibe take over.
Intimate Flesh: on the more digestible for mainstream end. Incredibly sensual in a sexy way not just theme and lyric wise but the music, great for a sexy slo mo movie/TV scene in a club.
Joya: techno piano but this reminds me most of her work with Bjork. Very light and airy with a touch of child like wonder. Excited for more of this in kick iiiii (5).
I can now say for me as far as ranking this is definitely the best out of the 3 so far. But, again I don't wanna do a full ranking till I've listened to them all.

Music Monday - My'Key Iso
-Nina LeVere
A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to meet and photograph My Key Iso a hiphop artist on the rise based out of Houston Texas.
On the day we met, we casually talked about some of our favorite hiphop artists over Philly cheesesteaks (he never had one so I had to take him to Ishkaibbles on South St) Recently we chatted again and this time around we talked about his latest project "Last Name Iso", more about his favorite artists and his loc journey.
Thank you for talking to MWL. What inspired you to become a hiphop artist? How would you describe your sound?
I would say my sound is a mixture of Jazz, Houston and Nigerian culture. As a Nigerian, I grew up listening to a lot of Fela Kuti and Jazz in general. My pops would always play jazz and Nigerian music around the house so it stuck to me. When Houston had a wave in the early 2000's, I fell in love with the music coming from my city.
Tell us about your latest project "Last Name Iso"?
Last Name Iso is my introduction album to the world. I wanted to be very vulnerable about my life so it deals with my battles of depression, isolation and anxiety. I often tried to handle situations on my own and would crumble. The album also shows where i'm, songs like Candy Coated Dreams and Ajamu portrays the Nigerian Houston native in me.
Who are some of your favorite music artists, producers etc?
Some of my favorite artist are OutKast, Kanye, Lauryn Hill, Erykah Badu, Jay-Z, Mos Def, Curtis Mayfield, Kendrick, Big K.R.I.T. and many more but these are some that really inspired me to be the artist I am today.
Some of my favorite producers are Kanye, 9th Wonder, Dilla, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, Boi-1-da, Pharrell.
Name one thing that you would change in the music industry?
I want to change the whole aspect of clout chasing. you can be who you are and not have to change your style. the authenticity of music is often watered down because artist are chasing what's hot now.
Tell us about your loc journey. How long have you been Loc'd and what is the has your loc journey taught you?
I loc'd my hair about 3 years ago after my mohawk was getting out of hand. I didn't want to cut my hair and my barber convinced me to loc it. at first I hated it lol, but over time I grew to love it. to me, my loc's represent freedom. I was often told that "dreads" were seen as a negative thing to the world. I was told "I wouldn't get a job, I would be seen as a thug" etc etc. when I got them, I felt free from the oppression I had within my mind. I applied at jobs and would manifest that i'd get the job and... I'd get the job! I've felt more confident in myself and fearless. I now feel like I can accomplish anything I put my mind to. not saying the hair gave me this confidence but when I hear how people had to cut their hair so they could get a job or look presentable to society, it motivates me to never cut my hair and to change how society may view locs.
Whats next for you?
More music on the way I have alot of new music in stored and will be dropping it soon along with music videos.
Where can our readers find you online?
You can find me on twitter and IG at mykeyiso and Facebook at My'Key Iso
I also have a website you can check out as well mykeyiso.com

Rapsody & Wale React To Grammy Snubs + Ari Lennox Pops Off On Soul Train Awards After She Didn't Win Award, Says She 'Quits'
Rapsody, Wale and Ari Lennox are responding the award show snubs. Peep their reactions inside...
It’s awards season and it always gets cutthroat when an artist or actor isn’t nominated for an award.
However, rapper Rapsody took a different route. Yes, she responded to being snubbed by the Grammys, but she did it with class and motivational words for other artists.
Rapsody dropped her album Eve and it was loved by millions, but the Recording Academy looked it over when it came time to choosing who should be nominated for rap awards.
The Roc Nation rapper could have hopped on social media and popped off on the Grammys for overlooking her album. But, she didn’t. Was she disappointed? Yes. Frustrated? Mos def. However, her response didn't show that. She served up a classy response to the snub on her Instagram.

Thank you for the LOVE you award me. I see you. The ones who lend me your ear, words, support. Every time. I rarely, if ever, show my cards or that I’m human when it comes to my music career. Feel like opening up some today, tho. Today.....disappointed. Yes. Frustrated...beyond. But, you have to tell yourself the good fight is never an easy one. And the people that are the faces of the purpose behind your art are what makes creating not empty: with awards. nominations, or none at all. Not to hold you, the acknowledgment for your craft indeed feels amazing!! I haven’t been nominated for much but what I have I’m thankful for. There’s so much power and weight in numbers, nominations and awards....we artist know what that does for our exposure; and for the many, validation. And you want people to continue to discover and play and be inspired by the music. That’s what I get excited about anyway. But, hey....we keep on creating. @freddiegibbs ...you put out one of the best albums....to everyone nominated for anything congratulations....to all artist who create....keep the microphone, pens, visuals, instruments lit. Art is too important not to share. Mad love.

"Today.....disappointed. Yes. Frustrated...beyond. But, you have to tell yourself the good fight is never an easy one,” she captioned on IG with a picture of her album cover. “And the people that are the faces of the purpose behind your art are what makes creating not empty: with awards. nominations, or none at all.”
”There’s so much power and weight in numbers, nominations and awards....we artist know what that does for our exposure; and for the many, validation,” she continued. “And you want people to continue to discover and play and be inspired by the music. That’s what I get excited about anyway. But, hey....we keep on creating.”
The 36-year-old raptress then gave a shoutout to fellow rapper MC Freddie Gibbs, who was also snubbed by the Grammys, calling his collaboration album with Madlib – titled Bandana – one of the best albums. She followed up with showing some love to those who were nominated and concluded her post with, “Art is too important not to share. Mad love.”
Peep her full response above.
By the way, Rapsody has been nominated for three Grammys in the past.
Another rapper who reacted to being snubbed by the Grammys was Wale:

Upset but not defeated
A post shared by Wale (@wale) on Nov 20, 2019 at 8:19am PST
We all know Wale has no problem speaking out when he feels like his music isn’t getting the respect he feels it deserves. Remember when he spazzed out and threatened to hurt Complex magazine staff for leaving his The Gifted album off "The 50 Best Albums of 2013" list? Click HERE if you missed it.
Well, the Ambition rapper didn’t go THAT far, but he did serve up a response to the Grammys in a subtle, indirect way. He shared a video of himself and Kelly Price performing his track “Sue Me” with the caption, “Upset but not defeated.”
The rapper also hopped on Twitter and tweeted, “On chill was VERY eligible. Very,” referring to his track “On Chill,” which appears on his album, Wow…That’s Crazy.

Another artist who spoke out about being snubbed from different awards show was singer Ari Lennox.

A post shared by Army Lennox (@arilennox) on Nov 20, 2019 at 11:44am PST
When Ari Lennox realized her debut album, Shea Butter Baby, didn’t win the BET Soul Train Award for Album of the Year (Lizzo won) she hopped on Twitter with a rant. She tweeted (then deleted) her frustrations and said she was quitting music.
She first tweeted, "I want this sh*t way more than it wants me. I’m learning I have to stop caring... Yea I’m hurt. I’m not built for these things lmao."
She continued:

In a series of now-deleted tweets, she said “It’s not just an award. It wasn’t any award show. It was the soul train awards. As you can see I’m big fan of soul music and huge fan of soul trains history," she explained. "Being snubbed was something I always expected and was definitely prepared for just not by them."
"My intent was to never shade other nominees. I’m hurt and I don’t expect soulless haters to understand that," she continued. "Everytime I wrap my mind around it I just can’t accept it. It feels like a break up. I made a soulful album. I never ran from who I am. I just expected that one platform to understand that."
A fan suggested she make a Christmas album and the “B.M.O” singer responded, “Naw I quit. I’m not selling out. So I quit.”
"It’s clear I’m not 'cool”'enough,” she tweeted. “Not trendy enough and I don’t care to be. I don’t strive for that. I’m not going to chase this sh*t ever again. No more fake sh*t on my part.”
"Dear fake fans please unfollow. I’m not entitled. I’m hurt. There’s deeper things i would love to say but I just can’t. It’s not entitlement. It’s blatant disrespect."
Ari then cleared her Twitter account. She’s back now though and she’s in a much better space being that Dreamville’s compilation album, Revenge of the Dreamers III, was nominated for Best Rap Album. She’s featured on the album with J. Cole, DaBaby, Lute, EarthGang, and more.
”Hey everybody I’m happy and I’m ok. Next time [heart emoji]. The true award is little beautiful baby black babies singing and loving my songs,” she tweeted. “This morning when I found out, I honestly felt peace. I’m happy. I know I’m on the right track. Wishing the best to all the beautiful black folks nominated and I hope they sweep that sh*t.”
Well alright.
Speaking of the Grammys, do you feel Megan Thee Stallion was snubbed for Best New Artist? In case you missed, find out all of the YBF artists who were nominated for the 2020 Grammy Awards HERE.
