DAY 31: WONDER

And so the last pumpkin sibling leaves home, powering through fear and uncertainty, to embark on a journey to see what the land of spirit has in store for them, not for reproduction but for finding a purpose.

Whatever road shall you pursue in life:

To satisfy your ambitions.

To follow your love.

To discover your true calling.

Or for a thousand different motives...

There will be pain and there will be joy, there will be defeats and there will be victories, but never let the endless changes take away your will to dance until the end, for all storms end and all dawns return.

And if you ever find yourself missing the loved ones you've left behind, look up at the moon and maybe, if they are gazing at it too, you may see their visages reflected in its silver glow.

DAY 2: DECAY

Like any other form of life, spirits are subject to decay, and pumpkin sprites are no exception. When one of them perishes their friends and relatives carve a small throne out of wood or stone, then they sit the corpse on it and wait in silence the eventual growth of mold and fungi, even up to several hours.

Life cannot exist without Decay, and the pumpkin sprites know this well, as the giant black flowershrooms that bloom from the corpses are kept and revered as memorials of the passed away loved ones, maybe to carry on the recycle of life, maybe to never forget those that held a space in their heart.

DAY 5: SQUIRREL

Many dangers lurk in the woods, awaiting for a moment to strike. One of the most vicious creatures in the land of spirits is simply know as shade squirrel, a sprite that has taken the shape of a giant, deformed squirrel.

They are the first cause of swancorn deaths and are known to chase and swallow almost any plant-like spirit, making them a constant threat for travelers and hermits.

Just like many other spirits, their origins are unclear. Some say that the souls of gluttonous individuals reincarnate in these famelic beasts, others prefer to think that squirrels simply get to be apex predators in the afterlife, following an existence of being hunted. Truly, no one really knows the truth.

DAY 22: STITCH

Osedax sirens and pumpkin sprites aren't just similar in intelligence and culture, but also in bizarre details in their anatomy: both of them have hidden body parts that appear only occasionally.

For example, did you know that pumpkin sprites have a tongue? It is normally hidden inside their head and is not a muscle, but a modified internal leaf. It's used to spit out seeds during reproduction.

Parallel to this fake tongue, osedax sirens have tiny hair-like frills on their tentacles and tail that extend when put in a stressful situation as a tactic to ward off aggressors, as if their sharp fangs and psychic powers weren't intimidating enough.

Despite their many differences, spirits of land and sea may have a lot more in common than what meets the eye.

DAY 1: PUMPKIN

A family of pumpkin sprites composed of a parent and their three mature sprouts. Pumpkin sprites are enigmatic entities that rarely show themselves to other creatures, but this family apparently accepted to be portrayed in an illustration. They also wear man made clothing, which is rather unusual for spirits.

DAY 3: ENDURE

Pumpkin sprites tend to inhabit abandoned structures left behind by humans and reclaimed by nature. As such their homes are often in need of repair after harsh downpours or hailstorms.

The picture above shows one of the three pumpkin siblings from previous illustrations, moments after a storm damaged the roof of the old windmill they inhabit. Despite the harsh conditions, the holes have been thoroughly patched up, and yet the spirit just sits on the tiles, somberly tearing up at the sight of the clear sky.

Perhaps they feel some form of kinship with the aged mill, as they both have to endure whatever the world throws at them, now without the guidance of those who accompanied them for their whole lives.

And yet, when the rainy clouds vanish, the two of them remain, still standing under the sunlight.

DAY 21: SPLASH

When a skeleton washes up on a shore there's a chance that an osedax siren may get beached alongside it, as they are a species of sea spirit that feed on carcasses and bones.

Osedax sirens are on the same level of intelligence as pumpkin sprites, as they are both spirit races with complex societies and capable of creating new technologies and tools, but interactions between the two are sporadic enough for them to not really know much about eachothers.

An important difference between merfolks and sirens is that the formers cannot survive outside of water for more that 10 or 15 minutes, while the latters are able to breathe air for months on end without diving. While this makes sirens more versatile they are still at disadvantage while outside the sea, which makes them act particularly defensive, especially when injured.

DAY 16: BUMPY

It is rather easy to notice where an arcane spirit makes a physical apparition, you just need to observe the ground and see if it has been moved by something large and powerful.

While the movement of such a colossal entity can often bring to destruction and even casualties, the ravines and holes that Floraa leaves after her wake are said to sprout more flowers and fruits in the years to come.

DAY 14: EYES

Floraa has power over all matters of transformation, as such he is able to generate a living being from anything that has even a minimun of life energy dwelling within. The enigmatic monoliths are not alive, but their magical aura makes them prime material to birth a golem.

Even if her static body will not survive much longer, the incredible powers of a deity are enough to make this miracle happen, and it seems Floraa has taken a liking towards the pumpkin sprites that summoned it.

DAY 10: OCTOPUS

Floraa is an ancient entity that lives in a separated sightfield from other creatures. Her plant-like body is in constant transformation, but through an arcane ritual it's possible to attune to its current form and manifest it in the land of spirit, locking him into that shape for but a moment.

He is neither the beginning nor the end, but the everchanging evolution of all life made flesh.
