Thinking about the suggestion coming from both sides of the pond that the original Medicine Seller mentored the new Medicine Seller. It may be more likely that it was the other way around, given the interrelation of the Kun and Li trigrams/hexagrams of the I Ching:

Qian and Kun are the door and the gate of change, the father and the mother of all hexagrams. -- Wei Boyang, 2nd c. Taoist master, Cantong Qi —Triplex unity (source)

It seems (metaphorically, of course) that the new Medicine Seller could be the original Medicine Seller's... parent...

(Li and Kan seem to be the second most powerful? Don't quote me on any of this; I'm just extrapolating from the info on the page linked above.)
