#sometimes my mom is so spineless morally bankrupt

I’m going to try and stay as anonymous as possible here, but sometimes my mom talks about her coworker: a wealthy, white, Jewish, Russian republican woman who consistently is the worst of my mom’s associates.

She’s a republican

She hates Muslims

She’s a Zionist

I’ve heard bubkis about how she feels about her country invading Ukraine…I don’t think her views are hard to ascertain.

So my mom comes today discussing a protest on a nearby college campus and how this coworker’s son felt unsafe because they were attacking Jewish people. I immediately said “ were they protesting Jews or Israel?”

My mom returns with “what’s the difference? well I heard her son call and the protesters were shouting scary things about revolution and violence. “

I googled it. So it was a small protest to commemorate October 7th and how many Palestinians have been murdered in Israel’s ongoing genocide. The chants were very simple about divesting and how there are thousands dead. The group was less than 100 people on a campus with over 10x that as the student population.

I showed her, but as always my mom brushes it aside. I should have empathy. She would be scared if I felt unsafe. I would’ve been at the protest if I attended that school. I have values and I like to abide by them. Her coworker is a racist, xenophobic Zionist who annoys the ever loving fuck out of me.

My mom just considers me a hypocrite because I won’t empathize with her. Genocide is always wrong. Israel is an apartheid state and Palestine will be free.
