My fav part about most of these “violent Steve” fics is that they don’t remove the bits of canon that mock Steve for not being violent and masculine enough (Dustin mocking Steve for never winning a fight). Like I’ve seen people be like “yeah when he became good he lost all of his skill!” I want to scream. Like. Like Girl. This is NOT a prince Zuko situation, it is not about the spirit. If Steve had at some point enough violence in him and enough confidence to just stroll around the school and randomly hit people with the only man in his posse being fucking Tommy, then he would still be able to fuck shit up. Like come on. Come oooooon

it's so silllly. It's also kinda sad because steve's whole thing is realizing that his friends were enabling him to be an asshole, and do/say cruel things, and thought he was chicken shit for wanting to apologize! he realized tommy and carol tore people down to feel better about themselves and didn't want to do that anymore, or miserable like that. So he stopped being friends with them.

They were Mean Girls tm. They weren't like Billy, who absolutely would have been using (and did)violence to assert dominance. They were more of a whisper and giggle or completely ignore/don't register other students. They did not have the physical intimidation game. They didn't need it!

The first fight we see Steve lose is immediately BEFORE he decided to change. If he was shoving kids in lockers and giving out swirlies, he would have done better in that fight! So it really isn't about the spirit! he had a change of heart after his gf slapped him and called him an ass and being cruel to a guy whose brother is missing.

I don't get why people make steve some violent and cruel monster in pre season 1? He can be a callous jerk without being violent about it!

i think pre-war!bucky would also have a steve-clinginess anxiety scale, if he didn't have to constantly be aware of steve's prickliness. a modern pre-serum!steve would be significantly less prickly about everything, as he would encounter significantly less overt eugenics. more ability to be openly queer and having more ability to define his own masculinity would help too

post-serum doesn't have to be so guarded or guard his independence, and he's not constantly on the verge of being labelled queer, so he would have more leeway with initiating physical contant. and the buckies you write with a post-serum steve don't have anxiety disorders, lol. so i believe they would be a cuddly couple, and bucky's anxiety wouldn't express itself so clearly in steve-clinging

Hi friend! 👋 Interesting! You know what, I actually read pre-war Canon Steve as less prickly than many fans seem to.

I don't mind him being characterized as prickly and sometimes I absolutely adore it, but I don't necessarily see it as accurate in my little brain.

In CATFA we are seeing him on one of the worst weeks of his life. His best friend and maybe only friend and likely sole source of economic stability is about to go get maybe killed in war. So. Woof. I think he is absolutely at his worst. I can imagine him actually being pretty cuddly on a regular sort of day before Bucky got drafted.

Steve is not prickly, per se, post serum. He's tough. He's sarcastic. He doesn't like to be underestimated, but he's usually correct when he assumes people are underestimating him. He frequently forgets to value his own life. He's also very, very kind and very polite to people who aren't unmitigated dicks. I feel like these character traits would be consistent pre/post serum.

And the other thing we forget is that men used to be allowed to hug and even kiss tenderly (esp in some cultures). In Lord of the Rings which was written around WWII the men were allowed to be affectionate in a way that people today joke "ended toxic masculinity" but it's decades old. The toxic masculinity that the affection and devotion in LOTR "ended" didn't precisely exist when the LOTR was written.

Which is not to say things weren't bad. Just that men were allowed to be more affectionate with each other and have it be read as platonic (in part because women were seen as less then men).(Look I'm not an actual historian so this probably is not 100% accurate but I do touch on some of these themes in my Shakespeare fic -- it talks about historic concepts of marriage and same-sex affection that I researched extensively)

That being said, yes agreed, Steve would have had many awful pressures due to eugenics and anti-queer bias, but my thought is, he might have been comfortable cuddling up to Bucky platonically or otherwise...

Anyway, re my own writing, my earlier stuff has less consistent characterization. Don't trust anything I said back then. Just kidding. Mostly :)

Finally, in summary, hell yes cuddly couple. I'm all in on the Stucky cuddling head canon.

sandy does though! she appears onstage after pony gets jumped and in an added scene of tulsa while pony & johnny are off. not much is added to her character in terms of facts other than she's got a real rough home life, but the way her relationship with soda's written is sweet. they do make one notable difference about her though, specifically:

sandy doesn't get pregnant or cheat in this version?? rather, she can't take her home life anymore, and goes to florida because of that. she shoots down darry's offer to stay with the curtises because she "can't stay here" and then soda's offer of marriage for the same reason + because they're both sixteen

two-bit and dally are older than darry, but it only comes up in the character description and not the play text

a lot of ponyboy's internal narration is converted into dialogue and sometimes it is. very strange. ponyboy's a quiet kid who keeps a lot of his thoughts to himself and now here he is blathering mean thoughts about darry all over the place that people are not doing nearly enough to counteract ‼

speaking of which ponyboy seems a lot less understanding of darry's plight in this verison. he only has one line saying darry's life is rough and several others dismissing darry's troubles

(also soda has to explain to pony who paul holden is and why he matters, which i assume is for the audience's benefit, but still contributes to darry and pony's relationship being much more distant here)

bob & randy are now also the socs who jump pony at the beginning, which makes sense

rather than go to buck's, dally just happens to be in the area and see the murder -- which makes sense to streamline the story and avoid unnecessary transitions, but does make his relationship with the other two less strong

as previously mentioned there's a scene about the tulsa gang while pony & johnny are gone, which is the scene where sandy tells soda about how she's leaving.

two-bit and pony have their exchange about how darry's stricter than his parents were and then they cut it off literally right before two-bit says darry would be a soc without the gang which is upsetting to Me as a darry enjoyer

it starts with ponyboy calling mr syme which is a fine lead-in i guess but i vastly prefer the bookend line and the reveal that ponyboy's been writing the whole thing at the end

pony & johnny do nothing about their hair in this version which makes sense because that's a difficult transition onstage but does make their plan way worse lmao

the tone of ponyboy's post-sickness plight is wayy different. it's a lot less catatonic state and a lot more easy breezy i'll have to get a job as soon as i graduate so why not just drop out now elemayo

darry knows about sandy's letter and ponyboy doesn't which kind of. counteracts the whole point about how both of them have been overlooking him (ponyboy knows she's gone to florida but thinks they're writing back and forth and darry shows him the unopened letter)

and also there's not nearly as climactic of a fight that causes soda's breakdown. they don't even try to get him involved in the argument

honestly the whole vibe between the brothers rings weird in several places to me. save me the musical. the musical save me

the end shift post-soda breakdown is not even about the brothers but about ponyboy deciding to commit to writing his composition (and school, as is implied) and it's very tied up in a pretty, resolved bow, which feels weird also

other than these (and a few other minor things) the script sticks really closely to the novel, including ripping most of the dialogue word-for-word, so unlike something more textually transformative like the musical it's a lot harder to highlight good stuff because most of the good stuff is because of se hinton and not the playwright 😭but it was genuinely a fun read other than weird pony choices and the strange curtis vibe and i'd go watch a production for sure

Maybe people get defensive about head canons and theories sometimes because it implies you think that the creators made a mistake to create the story and dynamics that they did. That what we saw on screen as far as character dynamics was a mistake in a way, if that makes sense? Idk. Perhaps, when theorizing about the potential of twins (based on what little we have), it can come across as that you think the show should have done that instead. Not saying you do that but maybe some defensiveness?

To follow up, not trying to say your blog or others dedicated to these characters is trying to do that, but that maybe fandom feels like it can get to a point where you're implying that the show should regret making the first season in a way? Maybe it's because I haven't been in other fandoms and not familiar with pop culture, but I just don't understand imagining what if scenarios, because why engage with the show? It sounds like you think you could do better than what we got with the dynamics.

Mmm, no, that's not the point I'm trying to get across.

When you have long ongoing shows (especially the super duper long ones), they don't plan absolutely everything from the getgo. There are some out there that do else the entire show wouldn't work (that's what I heard about Dark), but Stranger Things is no one of those shows.

Stranger Things is the kind of show that has a few through lines they follow through with every season, but they write majority of each season "on the spot" or as it comes along. Sometimes they have little accidents that work out fantastically. Other times, they make mistakes that don't really line up with everything else or they end up writing themselves into a hole or completely forget to plot out something that was so significant before. These are show writers, not gods after all. They are capable of making oopsies.

Look at Game of Thrones. Never watched that show a day in my life but I'm sure almost every fan can point out the issues it had after a couple of seasons when they had to make up stuff on the spot without source material. (Stranger Things is in a slightly better position because it IS the source material)

When they wrote season 1, I don't believe they already had the Mind Flayer planned out.

When they wrote season 2, I don't believe they had the Mind Flesher all planned out.

When they wrote season 3, I don't believe they had Vecna all planned out.

One of their favorite things to bring up is how accidental it was that Gaten and Steve's actor (sorry can't remember his name right now) happened to have a good onscreen chemistry in season 2. That certainly wasn't planned in season 1 and it's something they've decided to continue writing for season 3 and onward.

It's stuff like that that should inform you, "Yeah, they definitely had the skeleton but all the meat was kinda on the spot."

The terms plot hole, retcon, and other similar verbiage wasn't invented by the Stranger Things fandom. Every single piece of media from cartoons to live action shows deal with issues like this. Even one off movies. The amount of anime I've peeled apart and pointed out the oopsies in.... phew.

As for Will and El's potential, like i stated in a previous post, it's always been there. Do I wish there was more? Yes. But I'm not exactly advocating for all my headcanons to be real. They're "headcanons". It's fanfiction. It's fake. It's for fun. It's a "what if". Every single fanart and fanfiction that isn't a 1:1 to the show is also just headcanon, fake, and for fun.

I dunno. I think anyone getting defensive or up in arms about headcanons, theories, fanart, or playful "WillEl twins!" talk is being weird.

Obviously they aren't actually twins. They're step siblings who care about each other a lot and seem to have some kind of weird bond. I feel like the show has wasted a lot of time skirting around the edges of the supernatural plot (not just willel), time could've been spent exploring these ideas. But it's kind of whatever. We have to accept what's been given to us and fill in the rest with our own ideas, fanart, fanfiction, headcanons, and whatever else we want.

That is what a fandom is. You enjoy a thing. You make stuff because you enjoy a thing. You "fix" stuff because you enjoy a thing. I would hope most people are in this fandom simply because they enjoy the show. I hope they don't believe being part of a fandom means the show is the word of law and wanting anything different or wanting more or making up fan stuff is bad, wrong, and should be stopped at all costs because the showrunners and the show are perfect.

I've been in a many of fandoms and fandoms have always been this way. Well, in the distant past I think it was a lot less toxic because social media didn't exist and everyone was quietly chilling in their own segmented forums.

But fandom has always been about enjoying what you like. Some media only exists because someone thought, "You know what, if the story did things this way, I think it'd be more fun." Just think about how many tv shows, books, and movies have based their plot on a Shakespeare play but "better". Stranger Things itself is extremely derivative of 1970's and 80's movies, all mashed together. It's like a fanfiction of ever classic slasher supernatural horror movie.

Stranger Things is just a tv show. People need to loosen up.

Your response to your most recent ask about the “legendary stories” was so well written. I hope it doesn’t seem weird, but I’m always excited to come across a comment of yours as a reader, so I can only imagine how your words make the writers feel.

So, with all that said, I’d like to pick your brain a bit and ask a couple of random questions (if feel like answering): Do you have a favorite and least favorite trope? Have you ever read a fic featuring your least favorite trope and it turned out better than expected?

First of all, thank you very much for your absolutely lovely message and your kind words. 😘 I did indeed have a lovely Sunday, thank you very much! I hope Monday is treating you well?

I'm a bit of a serial commenter... it's true! See, the thing is, I get to read all these wonderful, lovingly crafted stories by people who put so much time, care, and passion into creating them--and I get to read them for free! So I figure the least I can do is try and put a miniscule fraction of the time and thought it took to write them, and for me to read them, into composing a somewhat meaningful & appreciative comment. I don' t know if I always succeed at the former, but as long as the latter sentiment comes through, I consider it a success!

Also, I don't think it's weird at all to read or get excited about other people's comments. In fact, I think it's a GREAT way to find new fics and authors. I found some of my favorite stories by clicking on the ao3 profiles of people I repeatedly noticed commenting on the same fics or otherwise leaving thoughtful feedback, and they were either writers themselves or had great bookmark collections ("Bookmark Creeping" is one of my favorite pastimes).

Now for the questions you asked:

Do you have a favorite and least favorite trope?

That is a very broad question! Where to even begin?😳 Also with fanfic, I'm always a bit unsure what exactly is considered a trope/a genre/kink because sometimes the lines tend to get a little blurry. Well, let's look at it through a Stucky-lense, shall we? Obviously, I'm a sucker for Mutual Pining, Friends to Lovers, and Slow Burns; I feel like those are baked into the ship, right? I'm also a bit of an Angst Queen, and I love nothing more than to get absolutely destroyed by a fic as long as there is the promise for at least a bittersweet ending that will gently put me back together. Also, I go WILD for wound care (bonus points if it comes with kissing) and I love a well-deployed(!) pet name.

Now when it comes to things I don't personally enjoy all that much? Hm. I don't read crack fic because it's just not for me and because I feel like it often clashes with the more serious aspects of Steve and Bucky's backstories. I also tend to avoid either super-fluffy (curtain fic, Kidfic, Highschool AUs) or super dark/kinky stuff (heavy BDSM, HTP, Non-Con as a kink). Ymmv, of course and I absolutely do not think it's a "bad" thing to enjoy reading these things!

Have you ever read a fic featuring your least favorite trope and it turned out better than expected?

For the longest time, I only ever read canon verse stories or at least somewhat canon-adjacent, like Shrinkyclinks/Shrunkyclunks, but almost no Modern/No Power AUs. At some point last year I think I got a bit canon-tired (because when you read almost exclusively Steve/Bucky, let's face it, a lot if it is by its very nature just really sad shit). So over the past year I got a bit more adventurous in my reading and I've dicovered so many wonderful stories! Like I said above, I usually tend to avoid Kidfics at all costs (I don't hate children or anything; I just don't want to read about them all that much... Oh God, I sound like a horrible person, don't I? 😬🙈)... Anyway, over the past few months, I've found immense joy in reading @zenaidamacrouras1's stories--and almost all of them feature child characters of various ages. And I didn't just like the stories despite the kids but because of them! Wild! Who would've thought? But I am now a person who enjoys Kidfic, and in fact I have one lined up for tonight!

Also, and I don't know if this is of any interest to you--I would very much understand if it isn't--but there is a series called Called to Heel by Bagheera, which basically pushes all of my NOPE buttons, starting with the fact that it's Bucky/Zemo (!) with some past unrequited Steve/Bucky, and here's only a small selection of the tags: Past HTP implied; Pet Play; Past Rape/Non-con; Rough Sex; Dom/Sub. So, according to everything I just wrote above, I should hate this; it should not work for me at all. And to be fair, it's definitely not what I would call a *fun read*. It's also one of the best fics I have EVER read, part 2 in particular is a goddamn masterpiece, and it's one of the smartest and most complex character studies of both Zemo and Bucky I've come across. So. You really never know what might end up working for you, I guess.  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Jin and DJ being enemies who are forced to share a body is very fascinating to me.-> This is exactly how I see it, not the usual "Jin's evil side!!" I mean, not really? it's a demon borrowing his face at the end of the day. Personally, I don't see Jin going all evil out of nowhere. Like *at least* show some progress. And even then I would side-eye the writing. I'm sorry if I don't see Jin like some people, he might be stoic and all but he's not an asshole nor a Kazuya Jr lol Yeah as you said, how they're written it's what makes them unique. What I meant is that sometimes I read comments that say oh, generic character, in a negative context, and sometimes something being generic is not necessarily bad, I guess? there are many tropes with these characters that could be explored and expanded upon. But then again, they usually have supporting/minor roles so they don't get the spotlight or the development as much as the main characters. And yeah, Asuka not having a significant part in her family's conflict does bother me a bit. I HOPE they change that in 8 but who knows at this point. Heihachi coming back as a robot would be hilarious but I wouldn't mind if they pull a Kazumi with him. Though, I will say, they will definitely focus on the Kazamas more this time (at least that's what I think) Glad I'm not being annoying, so I will keep coming back here! I usually send silly asks, like the one about Jun not getting over that demon dick lmao. Which reminds me, it was confirmed Kazuya and Jun were married apparently? Not sure if I heard that right

Yea! Whilst maybe the series doesn't do the best at it - I think the idea just has a lot of potential to it. The concept of not only being forced to share a body with somebody, but somebody you can't stand. Your enemy knowing you better than anyone else could ever. Then what kind of dynamic/relationship that can form upon that. As well as the whole complications of not feeling like your body is your own, and no longer recognizing yourself in the mirror. I just feel it has a lot more going for it than the typical "don't let revenge/anger get to you, or else you'll become a literal monster as symbolism for a bad person you are now! :)" Which isn't a bad concept - but as stated, an overused one, especially in fighting games, for some reason.

And I 100% agree with that, honestly. I got called literally "fucking dumb" for saying this before I stopped using Reddit - but I really don't think Jin should ever be bad. I think he should do some minor bad things (beating someone too much out of anger, or being snappy, whatever) but I don't think he should ever cross the line of getting innocents killed, or doing something that's evil, and not a simple flaw. Jin was created to be the Good One, like it's just core in his character. If he's Evil in any way, it takes away what he's supposed to be. Essentially, it's not Jin anymore. Remember when Marvel tried that dumb fucking plot twist where Steve Rogers was actually working for Hydra all along? Yea, people go so uber pissed at that and for right reason. Like I think that's another thing that amazes me by the Tek fandom. Every other fandom can acknowledge, and even protest when their character is written completely ruined, and out of character. Yet Tek fandom, ESPECIALLY REGARDING JIN, is like "yep. He did that. He's a Real Person And Did That And It's Undeniable So He's Bad."

Oh nah, I know exactly what you meant. It seems like a lot of people criticize "tropes" for being bad. Like almost everyone uses it as an insult. Even though many things are built upon tropes. But I don't think many ppl realize that, sadly. And just have an obsession with something being 100% original.

TK7 hinted that Asuka will play a bigger role. But I have a feeling that they may drop a lot of stuff they hinted at in TK7 - at least the character episodes. I don't know if they will or not tho. But I have a feeling that may have been why Asuka was revealed so soon. Because maybe she will play a more important role. I believe we were told this game will finally explain the Kazama powers. So, here's to hoping!

Like, I KNOW the characters aren't big. But Tek still doesn't develop them when they straight up have the opportunity to! Like in TK6, there was something in it that interested in me, if you play as Paul in Scenario campaign - he'll bring up his troubled past a lot, and basically state he's wanted by the police. Even calling his past "something you don't tell kids." When other characters fight against Paul in scenario campaign, and he says he wanted to be the strongest in the universe, they'll call him out - saying it's a lie, or that it's not really what he wants. Which makes me wonder if that could've possibly been alluding to a reason as to why being Number One is so important to Paul. Did something happen to him in the past that made him feel this way? Some characters accused him of being lonely during scenario campaign? Maybe something happened to him that made him feel weak? BUT even though this is interesting and actual depth. It's never expanded upon because his endings are just wasted on him getting his butt kicked or being humiliated. Same thing with Asuka, really. Asuka being part of one of the most important families in the game. And then also having hints she has the power to repel the devil. But then her potential is all wasted on Haha Funny Yuri Bait That Goes Nowhere with Lili.

I actually enjoy the humor in Tek - I think it makes it a very fun series. I make a lot of silly posts on my blog from time to time, and have hcs that mean nothing other than to be "stupid" or "funny." But I don't like it when the humor begins suffocating the entire series to the point where it feels like almost nothing can be taken seriously. Then that's when it gets annoying. And that's probably why TK4 nowadays is considered the game with the best story. Because it's the one with the least amount of humor. Hell, Paul had a pretty serious ending and actually dealt with who he is as a character beyond a flanderization of "NUMBER ONE IN THE UNIVERRRRSE." But I feel that many fans forget that Harada's first language isn't English. And hell, I don't even know how much English he even speaks, or if he's using a translator. Since it's apparent if you look at many of his tweets - as he often uses one word when he meant another. (Like some fans were even theorizing Jun isn't the real Jun because he referred to her as "it" instead of her.) So it's very likely he meant lover, but used wife instead.

In her English TK8 bio, it does state she and Kazuya met and "became close" at the second tournament. And I think the Japanese version of the bio may even say they fell in love together. But I don't think any of them mentions them being married. so I'm preeeetty sure they're not?

Brain Rot Thot Dragon Age Edition

Since Veilguard is next month and we've gotten so much stuff as of late, guess I wanna give some thots on this.

The whole three choices thing when it comes to Inquisition-related stuff. That's....certainly surprising and has me feeling weird. Until that, I was hyped about the game. I mean, I still am, but the only questions involve Solas, the status of the Inquisition, and your love interest....hmmmm. I mean, wouldn't it be important to know who the Warden Commander is? In my Worldstate, it's Alistair. I was hoping to see him again, especially since we're going to the Warden's HQ in Veilguard. I already headcanon that Alistair is the one who recruits Ash, my Qunari grey warden warrior and that won't change regardless. Still though, Alistair has been in EVERY Dragon Age. I was looking forward to hearing Steve Valentine again...unless he's a surprise or something...but something tells me the new dev/writing team has broken the streak of having him in the games...pity. And it would be nice to know if our Wardens managed to find a cure for The Calling. I mean, unless they're planning to address that in the next game....if there is one....

So is it safe to say that a Levallen romanced by Solas will be getting a lot of content while Inquisitors who romanced the other companions get maybe a line of dialogue at the most? I was hoping for a glance of Cullen, who is married to my Inquisitor. He's also a character that had been in every game so I was hoping to see him again(and before anyone mentions his VA as a reason, that's bullshit. VAs can be replaced) Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for the Solasmancers because they didn't get nearly as much content in DAI and a romanced Inquisitor does deserve proper closure, but I'm of the 'either make it equal or don't do it at all' mindset when it comes to things like romances and whatnot.

I get that it's Rook's tale. They are the one whose fuckup leads to Solas' fuckup. So Rook is the one who has to assemble their 'Avengers' or 'X-Men' to go unfuckup their fuckup. But every DA game has had the previous game choices shape the world, sometimes for better and sometimes for worse. It seems that this time around, choices don't matter so much. Like I understand the game is centered in another part of Thedas, but the events of the previous games should have somewhat rippled to other parts of Thedas through travelers' tales and whatnot. The New Divine would be normal gossip, as would other choices we made. Just kind of bums me out that everything that happened in Inquisition got boiled down to three questions...

Like regardless, I'm going to play it. Already have my Rook's class, race, and faction decided and little tidbits of his lore, as well as who he's ending up with(GILF Necromancer, eat your heart out), but that whole thing with the Inquisitor made me feel a little bummed and also seeing some of the writers being a bit dismissive and weirdly smug about things. I also don't like that people in the DA fandom are attacking them and being twats about everything....then again, this is the DA Fandom, where people claim to be anti-bully while bullying people so I kind of expected the backlash. There's a reason I would rather set myself on fire than tread back into that cesspool of toxicity that's apparently a fandom...

So yea, those be my thots I guess...I want to hope the game will do well and be great. Been waiting over 10 years for this game. Could care less what some Chuddy losers think of the CC or any other 'woke' element of the game. It's not for them. It's for those of us who have sunk so many hours into Thedas. Eddie had hoped for a little inspiration, a chance to write some songs about life and love in small towns. Some throwback Bruce Springsteen type stuff to have in his back pocket for ballads since he couldn't seem to write a song while in a relationship to save his own butt. Breakup songs were his specialty, if he was writing about love at all.

He'd never had his writing go like this before.

Even when a song started about watching people go about their days, they somehow ended up about him. Half the time Eddie gave up and just started describing him from the get-go.

He hadn't been this fascinated by someone in ages. He'd never been this inspired.

The man was like some kind of siren, drawing Eddie in from the first time they'd laid eyes on each other.

Eddie had been so taken by how hot he was that first friendly "Yup, I just moved in" and "Let me know if you need anything, I'm right next door" that he hadn't even gotten his neighbor's name.

That didn't seem so bad. Eddie would figure it out eventually.

He hadn't realized the way his mind would fixate.

Eyes too. He couldn't help noticing when headlights swept across their dual driveway in the evenings. He could help sneaking over to the window to see who his neighbor had brought home this time. Women, men... People who seemed old enough to be their parents and fresh-faced college kids alike.

Eddie didn't know how old his neighbor was, but he had to assume early twenties. He hoped early twenties. Like him. However old he was, he didn't seem picky. And maybe Eddie might have judged him a little more if he wasn't so taken with the guy himself, but the mystery he presented was more than enough to keep his judgment at bay anyway until he understood more.

Because he was frequently visited by a couple of women during the day who seemed very friendly, and with the way the clutzy one hung off him, Eddie might have wondered if he hadn't seen the women kiss once before getting back in their car, the way the one he could only describe as elegant watched the other with so much obvious love that Eddie was tempted to write a song about that. But even when he tried, Eddie still ended up writing about his neighbor.

And then there were the kids.

He had a whole pack of preteens or maybe freshmen who would come careening into the neighborhood on their bikes and practically howl as they beg to hang out, have dinner, hitch a ride somewhere. And while he didn't always say yes, the neighbor usually did. And he had a hell of a way with them.

Eddie had never really understood the whole "daddy" thing, but even he could admit that the way his neighbor interacted with the kids was hot. He was so competent. Eddie hadn't thought he was into it. Maybe he was just into his neighbor.

No, he knew he was into his neighbor. He just didn't know what to do about it.

Until one night when he stepped outside to water his plants--new town, new experiences--and found his hot neighbor sitting in a chair on his porch next door.

Hot neighbor waved over to him, and Eddie figured he didn't have any choice but to go over.

For his songs, if nothing else.

"There you are," his neighbor said, and that gaze was really too intense for Eddie to handle this close. "I see you out and about sometimes, but we haven't talked in ages. How are you?"

"I'm grand," Eddie said, trying to tamp down the urge to say more, to embellish his life to sound better for this guy. "Also, I realized we never actually swapped names."

His neighbor flashed him a grin. "So we didn't. What's your name, handsome?"

Eddie's head spun under those eyes. "Eddie."

"Eddie," he repeated, and the name sounded like chocolate savored on his tongue. "It's nice to officially meet you, Eddie."

"Likewise," he managed to get out. "What's your name?"

That grin got bigger. "Steve."

"Steve," he repeated.

Steve leaned forward, propped his head on his hands as he leaned on the arm of his chair. "You're so interesting, Eddie?"

"I don't know about that," he said, although his heart started beating faster at the idea that Steve found him of all people interesting.

"Yeah," Steve said. "You've really taken to... Hawkins..." and he said it like he wanted to put something else there instead. "But that's quite unfortunate because I don't mix business and neighborhood."

"Business?" Eddie asked, trying to think fast through his haze.

Steve seemed to take pity on him and reached out. The moment his hand touched Eddie's, it was like a cool liquid poured over his body. Eddie hummed without meaning to. "Must be proximity," Steve said, although Eddie didn't have a clue what he was talking about. "Being right at the heart of it all and not from around here."

"Makes me interesting?" Eddie asked. His head felt a little clearer now that Steve's hand was over his, but he felt like he was missing half the conversation.

"Yup," Steve said. He leaned in, face almost guilty like he couldn't help it, and inhaled deeply.

Eddie took a shaky breath of his own as he stared at those eyelashes up close.

Steve's eyes blinked slowly open again, and his pupils had gotten big, almost like he didn't have irises at all. Then he blinked again, and they were completely normal. It happened so fast that Eddie jumped.

"Sorry," Steve said, his fingers drifting across the back of Eddie's hand. "I've never been very good at ignoring temptation.

Really liked the latest chapter and the space it gave to let the previous chapter’s events percolate. But I’m going to go with an unpopular opinion (lol I think). I like Steve, he is obviously sweet, but I actually don’t want him to be the one she ends up with. For one, he’s a friend of the couple and it just seems too easy and a little cliché maybe. That this hot dude’s waiting in the background to swoop in and fix everything. Two, this is a me issue but I might have read things wrong and assumed this would ultimately be an Eddie x reader fic (not Steve x reader) and while I like Steve and I’m okay with them hooking up, I hope the action goes back to Eddie and that Steve remains a secondary character. But that is just my hope and what I assumed, obviously if that’s not how it’s going to go that’s absolutely fine, I’m just thinking ahead of how to prepare myself if it ends with pure angst with Eddie instead of fluff with him bc that’s not what I expected and I don’t want to be bummed out. I know that sounds dumb, it’s just a work of fiction, but it stays in my mind.

Third, people fuck up all the time. Constantly. We fuck up and it hurts people we love. I think the first instinct is to walk away and never forgive but irl that’s not always how it goes. Sometimes the person you love does something stupid that hurts but they are truly sorry and change and put in the work and you find it in your heart to forgive and not lose that love because it’s stronger than all the other stuff, and there’s history and time and growth together. I’m not talking about abuse or repeat manipulation. But I do think men making stupid immature decisions is common, even if they are ’“nice” guys who mean well. I think if they can turn it around and make it up to the person they hurt, it can move forward. I mean, personally it would take A LOT for me to try to work things out with Eddie. I would need grand gestures and groveling at my feet, sobbing, pleading, signing up for marriage counseling for as long as I decide and putting in the work, really showing up and being the best dad and husband he can be, you would need to see the effort every fucking day. I would need to hear and feel that I’m the only person he loves and wants every day, because I’d be insecure and would need to repair that. I’d need all of that in writing with an ultimatum that if he falls off the wagon, I’m out and seeking custody of our kid. And if he really loved me and wanted us back above all, he’d do all of that and more happily. If I loved someone deeply and thought we were soulmates and really felt their remorse and intent to make things better, I might leave that door open and see if they could make it up to me and our family. Anyways that’s my pov, that while he did something terrible and stupid, he might have a chance to save things if she’s willing to give it.

i think the way you worded this was quite nice and kind of summarizes my feelings on the series as a whole. i don't think you're in the minority when it comes to people not wanting steve and reader to get together, i think its maybe 50/50 but i'm also not counting lol.

i agree that men do stupid shit all the time and sometimes it works out in their favor and they get back together and have stuff happen. my cousin cheated on his wife a while ago, and today they're still together and seem very happy with one another, so things can change if the effort is put in. not saying i condone cheating or anything, thats just fucked. but you get what i mean.

eddie would have to put in a lot of effort to be able to bounce back from his actions, seeing as reader is still emotionally scarred from the confession and their child is...well, you'll see in the next chapter what christopher is up to. i know how it's all going to play out, so i'm not going to give spoilers, so i'll just leave it here: we will just have to see what happens. reader could end up with no one too, just deciding to chose herself and happiness. who knows :)

Capbot

Sensei is a computer scientist tasked with making a robot for the military to guard society, he was eager to create his own AI until he found out he had to replicate the personality of a well known videogame character. He didn't liked the idea but hey, at least he was given the chance to create one of the very first conscious robots.

Cloud is a robotics prodigy, she was paired with Sensei to complete the Capbot project. Her curiosity and gut trust has always led her to great results and when constructing the body of Captain this was no exception. She admires Sensei a lot even if sometimes he can look annoyed at her mere presence.

Captain originates from a videogame beloved by many, The Tankmen. While it was intended for him to be a war machine, Sensei was not given this information and created an AI who's main purpose was to look after people, as a result he came out... rather clumsy, but very protective over the assigned person.

His relationship with Cloud is almost sibling-like, with her enthusiastically showing him all the stuff of the real world and him just having fun and following along. Sensei has tried to convince himself to Not Like Him but his joyful attitude and personality were just too charming to not get attached, then he remembers how Captain loves to tease him and Sensei goes back into hating him (affectionately).

Meanwhile in the other lab, scientists Pico and Keith were tasked with making a bot of the second main character, and unlike Sensei and Cloud, they went straight to the point.

Shimepai

(idk why i wrote this different than the rest, but it sounds like an advertisement so i like it lol)

(Heavily inspired by @/s0dap0pzxx's Senpai Shimeji, love the little guy)

This living malware disguised as a Shimeji and a Desktop Assistant first appeared out of nowhere in fan forums of Hating Simulator.

At first glance he seems to act like your regular shimeji, except he cannot duplicate. He walks, crawls and dances around your screen offering you tips and sometimes saying cute little messages! when right clicking he can also work as a Direct Access for different applications or folders of your choice. However soon you might notice some of your documents might have changed places, don't worry! That's just lil Shimepai getting to know your computer! Sometimes you'll see files with different names that you originally remembered, that's part of the process too.

When he starts getting more comfortable you'll see him modifying some settings, chatting with your friends and even delete some of your apps and files to save you some space! He can sometimes pull tiny pranks. Just be sure to not make him angry if you don't want your computer to be factory reset.

Over all, Shimepai is just trying to adapt and feel cozy in his new home, maybe at the cost of your entire device and personal data but can you blame him? you gave him access to this amazing paradise!

Private Sen

This newest member of the army is an unexpected ray of positivity in the battlefield. While most people find him annoying at first, some will get used to his sweet presence, he can also be really sassy at times.

Him and Steve get along rather well, having kind of a friendly rivalry. Private tries his best to impress Captain but this can sometimes end in him fucking up the base, or accidentally shooting his rifle to someone's leg

Captain just finds him funny.

Idk where else i can put this but this guy has plot armor, like no matter how many times a tankmen enemy is shooting him from behind the tankmen always misses and Private is oblivious to the entire fucking situation.

Hellpai

(this idea came out from these icons in an Expurgation cover. i just. wanted to share the info.)

After wandering far, far away from his military base, Captain gets cursed and his soul gets chained to a long forgotten spirit.

While Captain, Steve and this creature that looks like came out from the gates of hell figure out how to break the curse for everyone involved, they have to get used to their new companion, and honestly? it wasn't as bad as they would have expected.

This nameless spirit acted aggressively at first encounter, mostly for self defense. He didn't had the liberty to talk, he could grumble and maybe say a word (cough cough this would occur later on) but he could never make full sentences, like he was not allowed to do so.

Everything before he met Captain was a blur, he didn't remember much. Maybe he once had a peaceful life? A life full of commodities on a civilisation lost in time, where he could just stretch his arm and anything he needed fell directly to his hand. What kind of person was he? A bad person? Was that the reason why he was like this? All those questions whose answers felt he was supposed to know, and yet he couldn't think of anything beyond those decades of claustrophobic solitude. Whatever had happened, he was comforted that, at least, he was no longer in that prison

and to be fair, he enjoyed being with these silly 'tankmen'

Angel Holiday was adopted by the Holiday family, being the middle child between her younger sister Noelle and her older sister Dess, he is also the second only human in the surface.

Ever since they were kids, Angel and Kris were looked down because they were humans, this made them become closer to each other. Slowly, the friendship they built in their childhood faded, becoming only classmates that rarely talked only because of Noelle.

Your heart skips a beat when you see Bucky waiting outside your office building, holding a bunch of flowers no less. He's awkwardly leaning against a wall, eyes darting around searching for you.

"You shouldn't have." You smile as you approach him.

"I was just passing." He murmurs, cheeks flushing as you kiss him.

"Passing a flower stall too?" You ask, accepting the blooms.

"Yeah, I guess so." He smiles.

"Mr Barnes, sorry to bother you." A voice pipes up. You turn and vaguely recognise the guy, you've seen him in the office building. What does he want with Bucky though?

Bucky eyes him warily. "Do I know you?"

"Oh no, I'm uh....I'm a big fan." the guy stammers, starting to sweat.

"So you're a fan of my work as the Winter Soldier or...”

"No no, I mean since then. Saving the world and everything."

"Sure, thanks." Bucky sighs.

You kind of feel for the guy, Bucky wasn't exactly known for accepting compliments, you know that better than anyone.

"Hey, can I get a selfie?" the guy asks, pulling out his phone.

"He's off duty, sorry." You say diplomatically, taking Bucky’s arm. "Let's get going."

"I'll never get used to that, " Bucky mumbles, as you steer him away from his fan. "I spent so much effort trying to hide and now..." He trails off.

"You saved the world, that's what people know you for now." You say, determined to put a positive spin on things.

"It wasn't just me." He says, as you cross the street. He moves his arm and grabs your hand instead, squeezing lightly. He's wearing gloves as is usual in public, concealing his gleaming hand in black leather.

You fall into a companionable silence as you head in the direction of your apartment. You can't help noticing that you're taking the route that happens to pass Bucky's favourite diner - where you first met in fact, a little over four months ago.

"Feel like coffee and pie?" He asks casually.

You grin at his predictability. "Sure."

Your flowers sit on the table in a kindly donated water jug as you and Bucky tuck into pie and ice cream, apple and cherry respectively.

"This...is...the...best...pie." Bucky says between mouthfuls.

"I knew you were going to say that." You tease.

He smiles, his eyes twinkling and crinkling at the corners. Oh, he seems so happy and relaxed, you impulsively decide to broach a tricky subject, figuring now to be a good a time as any.

"So, you know my sister's getting married in a couple of weeks." You begin, glancing at him as you toy with your food.

Bucky's eyes flicker and he fills his mouth with pie. "Hm-hmm." He mumbles.

You take a deep breath. "Well, I was wondering if you'd consider coming with me, as my plus one?"

He pales a little and offers a tentative smile. "I don't know sweetheart."

"Clare wants to meet you, that's all. You don't even have to stay for the full day, just to say hello."

"Sounds more like a family thing." Bucky says tightly, shifting in his seat.

"Well yeah," you swallow, feeling yourself flush. "But you are my....I mean..."

He sighs. "I don't think it's a good idea, you saw what happened outside your office. Imagine that times a hundred."

"Everyone will be focused on the wedding, my family won't bug you, I promise. They aren’t like that.”

Bucky scoffs. “You might be surprised how brave people get after a couple glasses of champagne.”

You sigh impatiently, feeling something inside you break. "What are we doing here Bucky?"

"I thought we were eating pie." He half-smiles.

"You know what I mean. Us." You hated to push him like this, you really did, and you already knew that he wouldn’t react favourably to it, but your developing relationship had seemed to come to a standstill lately.

"We agreed to take things slowly, didn’t we? One day at a time." He says quietly, reaching for your hand.

"But that was four months ago, I thought that we might have progressed beyond that by now. It's like one step forward two steps back with you." You say, your voice cracking with emotion.

"You're not my shrink, ok?" He snaps suddenly.

You slide your hand away from his and reach for your bag, tears forming in your eyes.

"I'm going home." You say softly..

"Don't go, please. I'm sorry." He says, looking up at you, a note of quiet desperation in his voice.

"Enjoy your pie." You sniff, not looking at him. You’re halfway home before you realise that you've left the flowers on the table.

By the time you get home you're angry with yourself more than anything else, cursing the fact that you even mentioned the wedding. You had agreed to take things slowly, but the truth is that you’re falling for Bucky and you want him to be a bigger part of your life. The wedding seemed like the ideal opportunity to introduce him to your friends and family, but on reflection, you realise how overwhelming it might be.

Half an hour later when there's a knock at the door, you know that it's Bucky. He's carrying the flowers, still in the water jug.

"The waitress said we could have this, I think she just felt sorry for me." He chuckles dryly, following you into the living room.

You can’t help but smile at the image of him walking down the street with the flowers.

"I'm sorry." You murmur, setting the flowers on your coffee table.

"Why are you sorry? I was a jerk back there." Bucky frowns.

"I shouldn't have pushed you like that."

"You weren't pushing." He sighs.

"I spooked you.” You say softly, looking up at him.

"Yeah." He smiles. "A little. Look, I’m still trying to figure this out."

"I know. Me too. I've never been in a relationship like this."

"I should hope not." He says wryly.

You chuckle, fighting the urge to just throw youself into his arms.

"I like you, so much." Bucky murmurs, his eyes searching yours as he strokes your face. "But I can't help thinking that you'd be better off with someone else."

Your stomach drops. "No, Bucky-”

"I mean like someone who doesn't get spooked when you want to do regular relationship stuff, it's not fair on you." He says, brow furrowed.

"Look, forget the wedding, I'll ask one of my friends to come."

"It's not just the wedding though is it?" He sighs.

“I don’t want anybody else.” You state firmly, placing your hand on his chest - you can feel his ever present dog tags through the thin material of his sweater.

"You've been so patient with me, it's more than I deserve."

"This is what you deserve." You say, and kiss him gently on the cheek. "And this." then corner of his mouth. "And this." finally the hollow of his throat.

He lets out a soft groan and grips the nape of your neck, kissing you deeply, opening your mouth with his tongue. He tastes of cherry and vanilla, his lips soft but insistent.

"I want you." He breathes. "I want you."

Without a word, you take his hand and lead him to the bedroom. like, honestly. i get the motivation that comes from simply wanting to do something and then doing it. but do you plot or just write at random? do you write shitty first drafts and then go around rewriting? do you also feel like you're a phony sometimes or you always feel like you know what you're doing? idk, i'm a little stuck rn and i guess i just wanna hear read something that helps me finish something i decide to write.

I do have fun! It's all embarrassing guilty wish fulfilment disguised as proper writing I promise you. And please don't be sorry, I'm really okay to answer I don't mind one bit.

Do I plot? Not usually! For most of my bigger fits, it usually comes from my desire to write a scene that I've thought of and making it into something with like a theme or a mood. For example with Day of the Dead, I knew I wanted to write the first scene where reader is sitting on Eddie's front porch, and I knew I wanted to write the scene at the end where they kiss in Steve's car. So that was all about bridging the gap, and just telling that story where the reader was insecure and Steve literally liked her for all the things she was insecure about. I was writing it as I went along. So there is some plot there but not a lot, because I find it very hard to write dialogue if I already know how the scene is ending — the fun for me is in actually writing and planning out the scene as I go!

Do I write shitty first drafts? Kind of! If I'm really struggling with something then I use the ideas but start a new draft. Mostly though, I write (and edit as I go, after a couple of paragraphs I'll reread and fix mistakes) and then at the end of the draft I do go through and read it a couple of times to fix things I'm not happy with (like overuse of commas, bad wording, not enough description) so YES, absolutely there is rewriting!! I'm sorry I don't have a more precise method to share with you, but it's usually just like that :D

Do I feel like a phony sometimes? I'm gonna say no. I don't feel like I don't know what I'm doing as myself as a writer, but in comparison to other writers then yes? I know that doesn't make much sense. I personally don't see my writing as anything that special (which I know ur not supposed to say). Like when people compliment me I I just think like thanks so much but what are you talking about. So actually maybe I do feel like a phony? Im confident in my ability to tell stories I enjoy, but I think I feel a big disconnect between that and other people enjoying them too. It's an insane privilege to be read by others! Insane! TLDR : I wouldn't necessarily say I don't know what I'm doing, but it is surprising to me that people enjoy the finished product, because on a technical level I don't think I have the skill or ability that others do.

I really like writing (shocker) and I'm in this amazing position where I can share it with others, so though I don't always know what I'm doing I suppose it doesn't actually matter once you find 'your' audience

alright i've seen arcane twice through now, here are my opinion patch notes:

jayce is hilarious i can't believe fandom hates him so much lmao... arcane boldly asks, what if steve rogers shot a child, and i think that's very fun and sexy of them

fr though i do think jayce is one of the more interesting characters precisely because he's -- well partly because i feel like he realized he's bisexual two days ago and is making it everyone's problem, which is already great. but also because watching the square-jawed hero complex guy make a series of terrible decisions and go mad with power is a satisfying thing to witness. the story seems very aware jayce is doing a bunch of fucked up stuff, and i appreciate that. unhinged bisexual rights

i was also more into the political drama once i was following it closer. i think it's handled with relative subtlety most of the time and i like that! i hope it stays that way in s2, please god. also how tf does the council work, are people appointed? i guess? based on status/wealth? it certainly doesn't seem to be a democracy.

also i love ambessa. can't wait to see more of her.

i feel like mel's writing is... kind of underbaked. her words and her actions don't always correspond (eg "i've never been able to give back!" says the single richest person in a city with severe wealth disparity who has been in political power for a decade). i don't say any of this to drag mel, because i'm very interested in who i think she is/could be, but i find it hard to decipher if this is nuanced writing or just the story not really knowing what it's doing with her -- i guess we'll see what s2 does. i'm still pretty confident she'll survive the finale, not so much because i think she'll survive the entire show (doubtful imo) but because i think if they're going to kill mel she'll get a solo death episode and the finale/fallout of jinx's bomb has too much else going on. fingers crossed anyway, lol, i think it'd be shitty if she's just dead now before they did much with her

i understand like 25% more of what happened with viktor and happy fun ball but ... still not a lot. lmao. i don't mind them keeping it vague i guess but i hope future sequences are less outright confusing to me. why did it eat sky? why did it change his hand? was that on purpose? we never saw him having issues with his hand, right? who knows.

still love that dinner scene with jinx/silco/vi. as i was watching with @firstofoctober i was saying how great it is that everyone in the scene is saying stuff they genuinely believe even if that stuff isn't factually true. i know there's Discourse over how genuine silco was being but i really do think all evidence points to him meaning it/believing what he's saying, even if *we* know vi isn't going to betray powder, etc. likewise vi obviously means it when she says she loves jinx and they're still sisters etc... but i really don't think she has a proper grasp of who jinx is now, she's projecting baby powder and expecting she can flip a switch. it's good and sad and i like it a lot.

coming out less flatteringly on rewatch:

ep 1 is so boringgggggggggg these are so many characters and i only have to care about two of them

caitvi moves at breakneck pace lol. slow down ladies it's been 72 hours tops

and my least popular opinion: caitlyn i just... i tried man. i dunno. i mean she's nice and stuff... katie leung is funny sometimes. i just feel like she is so uncomplicated compared to literally every other character, with the least compelling arc. and i think the story treats her with real kiddie gloves too, which i find grating. everyone else fucks up and makes mistakes and is punished narratively for it, but caitlyn is always right bc she is a nice good cop. okay. whatever.
