Let me sing to you the praises of peanut butter. It is the stuff of life, the daily bread that nourishes me morning, midday, and evening. The queen of breakfast, the leading light of lunch, the hero of dinner. Its smoothness and richness are unparalleled. One can only surmise it is what the Greek gods ate that gave them their immortality. It is a delight, a versatile icon, a plat du jour but for all the days, a reason to get up in the morning, and a shining beacon of deliciousness.
We met late in life, peanut butter and I, when I was already an adult, and what a shame it is. To have been deprived of this goddess during my childhood, not even knowing of its existence. But oh, will we make it to the end together.
In their modesty, these seeds that grow underground show us that the marvel of life need not come from up high, nor need to be complex. Simplicity is fulfilling too.

sometimes the fact that you’re friends with kim taehyung genuinely confuses you
not just because you’re complete opposites in terms of literally everything but also because-
well… that’s pretty much it.
the two of you are like... a peanut butter and pickle sandwich!
when you first look at it you might think that combination is a little funky anD could possibly lead to destroying a toilet BUT when you actually give it a try you realise it’s actually pretty great!
…you get the point
so when taehyung told you that he wanted to spend his birthday at a wine tasting event, you really weren’t that surprised because of couRse he wants to spend his birthday drinking wine and socialising with other wine snobs instead of doing something actually fun like… literally anything else in the entire world
you’ve always prided yourself on being a good friend so if wine tasting was what taehyung wanted, then wine tasting was what he’d get!
but, uh
to be perfectly honest
you’re not really a wine person
you’re more of a margarita person
you just don’t see the appeal of drinking fermented grapes!!!!
why drink bitter grape juice when you can drink sugary lime goodness??
why drink something that’s been ageing in a barrel for like fifteen years when you can drink something that nevER ages due to the insane amount of additives in the premix formulas??
“wowiE, check out that spread!” you look over at the round table in the centre of the room as you and tae trickle in with the rest of the participants of the event “is that fondue?? holy shit.”
“hopefully you don’t burn the roof of your mouth again.” taehyung snorts before the smile falters on his face, “…maybe you should stay away from the fondue altogether.”
the two of you take your seats (there are fancy name cards for everyone!!) and you smooth your skirt out before smiling politely at a couple of the other people at the table
so far, the rest of the people here are… to put it as nicely as possible… more mature than you thought they’d be
but then again this is a wine-tasting seminar so it would be a huge surprise to see other twenty-something year olds hanging out here
you feel out of place but taehyung is just soaking it all up
he’s happily chatting away with the older gentleman seated next to him
sometimes you tell taehyung that you feel like he’s a fifty-five year old man trapped in the body of a twenty-four year old
and he never fights back because he knows it’s true
you let out a breath as you take a look around the room
god
you’re going to be stuck here for a good two hours drinking wine
maybe you can sneak away to the hotel bar or something
taehyung probably wouldn’t notice, right?
but would that make you a bad friend?? abandoning him here when you said this was a thing you were going to do with him??
“you know, i see myself as a wine enthusiast. the more i drink, the more enthusiastic i become!” taehyung laughs heartily and the other couples join him

you’re tempted to ask him which wine-mom facebook page it was that he stole that joke from
“does anyone have the time? i think it might be wine o’ clock soon…”
you let out a quiet groan as you feel your soul literally float out of your body

just as you’re about to get up off your chair, you hear the door slam shut and-
“good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen! welcome to today’s wine-tasting event. my name is hoseok, and i’m going to be your host…”
you shift in your seat as you follow the host with your eyes
you feel your heart skip a beat when he spins around to face the table
oh
he’s handsome  
like vERY handsome
perfectly tousled dark brown hair
bright twinkly eyes
his nose is literally perfect!!! perfectly slanted and perfectly pointed!!!
and his smile!!!!! it’s shaped like a heart!!!!! how precious!!!!
the thin gold chain hanging around his neck winks at you under the lights and you swallow thickly
it seems as though you’ve found a reason to stay at this event
as hoseok begins to explain how the structure of the event is going to pan out, you find yourself paying extra attention to the way his lips curve around certain words
“as you’ve probably already noticed, there’s an abundance of different dishes in front of you that’ll go great with some of the wine you’ll be tasting today… over here, a roasted fruit and cheese platter… a smoky three cheese fondue with some freshly baked french baguette slices on the side… popcorn with sesame glazed pistachios…” he slowly makes his way around the table as he introduces each of the dishes and you feel your heart drumming away as he gets closer and closer to you, “dark chocolate sea salt cashews… baked brie with figs and walnuts…”  
and you think it might be a nervous habit or something but whenever he pauses his tongue pokes out quickly to lick over his bottom lip
whatever it is it’s cuTE
as he passes you and tae you catch a whiff of his cologne and for some reason you instinctively cross your legs
and when hoseok looks directly at you your thighs automatically squeeze together and-
oh god
okAY you need to relax
why don’t you just stare at the fondue or something??
ya
you’ll do that
you immediately look down at the three cheese fondue and you begin counting how many chunks of baguettes there are on the plate sitting next to it to keep you distracted
it’s a shame you’re staring down this fondue instead of paying attention to hoseok because you don’t notice the way his eyes scan over you before he’s quickly looking over at someone else
“i believe it’s essential to expectorate when you’re tasting a wide variety of wines, but i’m well aware that some people might not be comfortable with spitting into cups and pouring that into a dump bucket, so-“ you look back up at hoseok after you finish counting the baguette chunks (you counted twenty six but some are hidden under others) “the choice to spit or swallow is entirely up to you.”
you immediately choke (on nothing??? apparently??? goD you’re lame) and reach over to grab your glass of water to keep yourself from bursting into giggles
tae gives you a couple pats on the back before rolling his eyes playfully
you find toilet humour pretty funny so he’s not surprised that you chokEd over the spitting or swallowing thing
the corner of hoseok’s mouth twitches in a smirk when he hears you whisper: “in my humble opinion, spitters are quitters-“ to your friend before you’re pressing your lips together and holding back a grin
he looks at your name tag quickly

how cute
“so you’re going to want to hold the glass up and examine the wine against the light,” hoseok explains, “what you’re looking for are colour and clarity.”
you let out a little sigh as you prop your cheek up on your fist while the other hand holds up your glass on wine
you look down at the information sheet on the table
it’s basically just a list of the wines that you’re trying today and you’re still on number one
it’s been like fifteen minutes!!!  
there are seven wines you have to go through!!!
this hoseok guy is hot but gee whiZ he really takes his time with things
you could probably explain the wine better and faster than him!!
the colour of the wine is red!
…and you don’t know what clarity means so you’re just going to say that the clarity of the wine is also red!
“now stick your nose into the glass and give that a good whiff. what do you smell?” hoseok pauses as he looks around the table
“i’m getting notes of… i’m thinking strawberry…?”
“yes, so am i!”
“is it strawberry or cherry? i feel like it’s easy to mix those two up.”
“there’s something nutty… i’m picking up something nutty but i’m not quite sure…”
“it smells like wine to me.” you blurt out and tae elbows you when you get a couple irritated glances from your fellow wine buddies
what???
were you wronG??
you lean over to get closer to tae, “when are we drinking??” you whisper as hoseok continues to babble on about the different notes that you should be picking up on
“hush.” tae scowls before nudging you back

this is torture!!!
“go ahead and give that a taste.”

you tilt your head back as you down the wine in one go
down the ol’ hatchet!

another reason as to why you’d be a much better sommelier than hoseok: his serving sizes are tiny!!!! how are you supposed to properly taste and appreciate the wine when he gave each of you like a tiny baby shot of it??
“now, this wine pairs particularly well with the dark chocolate sea salt cashews, so feel free to try that combination.”
you perk up at the mention of eating

since the two of you are here for him, taehyung didn’t think that he’d have to worry too much about you
because today is his day! he should be able to enjoy his fancy wine tasting event! he wants to chat about how the creamy brie cheese compliments this rich white wine! he wants to learn about how different types of glasses can change the way you taste a certain type of wine!!

he doesn’t check up on you for good half an hour and thIS is what he gets

you’re slumping back against your chair with a dopey little smile on your face while trying to balance a little chunk of camembert cheese on the tip of your pointer finger
“y/n, you weren’t- you weren’t supposed to drink all of the wine, you blockhead-“ taehyung whispers as he plucks the cheese off your finger before using his napkin to wipe your hands clean
“well, i believe in noT being wasteful, sooOo i think you might be in the wrong here, mr. look-at-all-the-wine-left-in-my-glasses-“
“alright, so this next one is a merlot,” hoseok explains as he makes his way around the table to fill everyone’s glasses up, “in terms of flavour, it’s definitely more fruit-driven and has a more cherry-like aftertaste. it has a smoother finish compared to the cabernet sauvignon that we tried earlier…”
taehyung whacks the side of your leg when hoseok gets closer to the two of and you immediately straighten up in your seat
“wine me up, monsieur.” you hold your glass up for hoseok and offer him a bright smile
he chuckles and plucks the glass from your hand before setting it back down on the table
taehyung gives you a warning look before reaching up slowly and gesturing to keep your lips zipped
you raise your hands in defence before zipping your lips and throwing the key away anD blinking hard (it was supposed to be a wink)
taehyung raises a brow
you can’t zip your lips anD lock your lips that doesn’t make any sen-
you know what
it’s fine
as long as you don’t say anything else for the remainder of this session it’ll be fine
“everyone has a little in their glass? good. go ahead and give that a taste.” hoseok clears his throat before turning to put the bottle down
you take a small sip of it before tilting your head back and-

“what the hell are you doing?!” tae hisses as he gives your arm a hard pinch
you choke and give your chest a couple hard pats before grimacing
“god, that did noT go down smoothly.” you whisper loudly and shake your head, “i’m giving that one a sssaaad face.” you slur as you doodle a little frowny face next to the name
taehyung’s eyes widen as he looks at what you did to your information sheet
where did you even find a pen????

“oOh, i have a question!! i have one, i have one, pick me-“ you wiggle your arm around and hoseok nods in your direction
“yes, y/n?”
“i think, i think that we should order, um, we should, we should order a pizza. because these water crackers or whatever you call them are nOT doing it for me, like, look at this-“ you pick one up before popping it into your mouth and chewing obnoxiously, “fho dhry. fho DRY-” you let your jaw drop and taehyung suppresses a groan of mortification when what looks like straight up saND falls out of your mouth and sprinkles right into your wine glass
“oh, god. please stop, please stop-“ taehyung winces and quickly reaches over to snap your mouth shut
you slap tae’s hand away before swallowing your bite
“so, thoughts on this pissszzzaa?” you slur as you reach for another water cracker (tae moves the plate away before you get a chance to grab one) “is pepperoni okay with everyone? yes? yes? good? nice? yum? hm?” you look around the table while nodding enthusiastically, “barbara, my love, i noticed your earrings are from chanel which can only mean you’re loaded so because of tHAT i think you should be the one to pay for this extra large, cheese-stuffed crust pepperoni-
“okay! i think you need a time out-“ taehyung chuckles and gets up before grabbing you by the arm and yanking you up off your chair
“time out??” you gawk as you stumble over your feet, “i’m not three years old, taehyung, i- oOh, barbara, dahling, if we order within the next five minutes, we can get two cans of coke on the HOUSE-!“

“-you’re going to sit here and do nothing, got it?” taehyung scolds as he helps you get settled on the ground next to the door of the room
“i gotta say, i think all this wine is making you a little catty-“ you purr before playfully batting at taehyung’s face
luckily he moves before you get the chance to scratch his cheek
tae pinches the bridge of his nose in frustration and shakes his head, “y/n, you know you’re one of my best friends and that i care a lot about you, and i appreciate you being here with me but- today was supposed to be my day! my day! so can you please just sit here and behave? please?”
even in your drunken haze you can see that taehyung is upset with you and that’s enough to sober you up a little bit
you didn’t mean to upset him :-(
you were just trying to do this wine tasting thing right!!!!! and you weRe technically tasting the wine.,. just maybe a little too much of it.,,.
you nod slowly and reach up to zip your mouth shut
“good. the water dispenser is right there, so stay hydrated.” he gets up off the ground and dusts his knees off, “and we can order a pizza after this is over, okay?”
you nod again and offer him a meek little smile
you spend the next twenty minutes staring at the wall in silence
occasionally you looked around to see if anything besides nothING was happening
you did get up once to get yourself a little paper cone of water
and then you put the cone on the top of your head like a little party hat
but theN you realised that putting a white paper cone on top of your head was just you giving yourself a dunce cap which… was actually pretty fitting in this situation  
at the twenty-eight minute mark the door opens quietly and you immediately perk up because you automatically assume it’s tae  
“it’s y/n, right?”
“oh, uh-“ your eyes widen as hoseok slides down the wall to plop himself down right next to you “yes? yeah. i’m- yes, i’m y/n.”
“i noticed you were a fan of the dark chocolate covered cashews, so-“ he holds out a little napkin filled with the cashews before handing it over to you, “everyone in there is currently mingling with each other, so i figured i’d come out here and keep you company.”
you blink owlishly
he’s being pretty friendly considering the fact that the two of you are complete strangers

but enough about tae because heLLo attractive young man sitting right next to you-
“ah, well, i’ve been staring at that patchy blotch of paint on the wall for-“ you pause to check the time on your phone, “coming up to be twenty-five minutes now, so you’re not missing out on that much.” you murmur as you unwrap the napkin and pick up a cashew before popping it into your mouth
“i, um, actually…” hoseok trails off before laughing lightly, “i wanted to come out here to talk to you about earlier-“
“oh, god. you don’t have to say anything, i know i was acting insane-“ you shake your head before snorting, “trust me, you won’T be seeing me again after the event ends-“
“but i do want to see you again.”
you freeze for a second before turning to look at him
you wait for another second to go by juSt to make sure he’s not playing around with you
“…say that again?”
“i mean… i thought you were hilarious!” he grins, “i know the alcohol was definitely a contributing factor, but i took a glance at your information sheet and-“ he pauses to pull the folded up piece of paper out of his shirt pocket, “-i don’t think i’ve ever heard anyone describe the aftertaste of a sémillon like: ‘you know lemon-scented febreze? now imagine what it’d taste like if you mixed sprayed lemon-scented febreze into a glass of bleach, because that’s what this tastes like’.” hoseok looks over at you with wide eyes, “you made this wine-tasting session way more fun than i thought it was going to be!!”

“i’m glad to hear that me humiliating myself was entertaining for you!” you joke before rolling your eyes playfully,“the only reason why i’m here is because my friend is a self-proclaimed wine snob.”

“oh, no. all the offence, please.” you snort and pick up another cashew, “he kicked me out to punish me but i didn’t even wanna be in there in the first place so this is actually super great.”
“ooh, i think i just felt my heart split in half…” hoseok winces dramatically as he presses a hand to his chest
you can’t help but giggle before you look away nervously
now that you’re not drunk off your ass, you feel the butterflies returning to your tummy
you barely know this guy but you’re pretty sure you’re already 500% in love with him
…what wine is he going to pick out at your guys’ wedding?

“-i know this might seem a little out of the blue, but… would you wanna go out for drinks sometime… with- with me…?” hoseok clears his throat

you look back at hoseok so quickly that your head probably could’ve popped off your neck
he glances away before letting out a nervous chuckle, “i just… yeah, can i take you out?”
your eyes widen slightly
oh!!
you certainly weren’t expecting for him to ask you out but you’re definitely not complaining
“feel free to say no, i just- ah, i don’t know, i don’t usually get a lot of people my age coming to these things, and i feel like you-“
“i’d love to go out for drinks sometime… definitely with you.“ you tease as you nudge his arm gently
hoseok’s cheeks flush before he beams at you
“great! i know a place that makes really good cocktails- say, do you like margaritas?”
your lips part in a gawk
“do i like- do you wanna get married??” you scoff as you sit up straight, “i love margaritas!”
“great! i promise i won’t make you drink anything that tastes like-“ hoseok pauses to look at your sheet again, “‘mouldy grapes after they’ve been trampled on by someone with athlete’s foot’…?”
you flash him a sheepish smile

Dame’s Eating Problem(s)
okay so I’ve been wanting to make this post for like ever now but kept getting too tired to write it but basically this post is going to be a detail on my difficulties with eating and food
so tw for disordered eating, and food obviously, and vomiting too, and unsanitary stuff too, there might be ableist language, suicide and self harm, body image and/or dysphoria probably? I think that covers it
let’s get this show on the road below cut
So to start with, I have digestive issues, a tender mouth, sensitive teeth, and autism. This makes eating hard enough already. 
I am sensitive to grease, sugar, dairy, spiciness, and salt. Which kind of sucks because I actually need a lot of salt in my diet due to my vasovagal syncope and chronic low blood pressure, but it burns my mouth so brutally I swear I even bleed. Some other examples of problems I have would be eating a candy bar in one sitting makes my teeth ache, or fighting between puking and shitting myself to death over most fastfood because they use so much fucking grease. 
It’s very possible I have irritable bowel syndrome but I have hangups with getting any of that checked out, mostly that THAT particular area of my body, I am actually too shy and embarrassed over to want to risk any kind of... examination of it... haha... and with all my other problems it takes a back seat. 
Then there’s the autism, which is almost unpredictable in what will set off my gag reflex sometimes. I know for certain peanut butter*, mushrooms, and anything with legs (such as some shrimp and DEFINITELY any squid) are guaranteed triggers. 
(*Small amounts of peanut butter in things like packed candy bars or puppy chow are fine. Small amounts, though.)
And then sometimes I just get tired of eating something and will come close to puking on just the thought of eating it. This mostly happens with meat, potatoes, pastries, and whatever you’d consider shit like waffles and pancakes. Vegetables and fruits seem to be safe for the most part, but unfortunately they’re not very filling and their acidity / fructose content can trigger my OTHER digestive issues. 
I’m guessing it’s an autism thing because it’s primarily about the textures that I don’t want to feel when I get tired of a food, hence why it tends to be with... squishier, sometimes slimier stuff I guess.
Usually food intolerance comes from the fact I have very few options of “safe” food and eat the shit out of any I find, and ultimately make myself hate it temporarily from that being the only thing I ever eat. Sometimes, though, this is permanent, such as with peaches, pears, chili, goulash, pineapple, and at times beef stew specifically of the Dinty Moore line.
This is a backdrop for how my troubles began. I kind of ignored this, like, aggressively for a long time, particularly because of being abused by adults over it? I had no explanation and everyone thought I was being a picky brat - in fact being called picky was a trigger for me as a kid because it was always in such a brutally negative fashion that implied I was a lying spoiled piece of shit because I would shit my pants or throw up over some adult’s stupid fucking idea of “kid friendly” food like tacos and peanut butter sandwiches. 
So I just... didn’t eat. A lot. It got worse over time. I was so tired of fighting about food, and I was tired of not knowing what was going to hurt me, that I just straight up forewent eating, often. Very often.
By high school, I was probably only eating lunch twice a week. When I graduated high school I was down to like 95-98 pounds. 
But it wasn’t just that, actually. It got worse, if you can believe it! 
What this did was pave the way for me to get worse as my depression, anxiety, and other untreated mental illness took their toll on me in high school. Years of ignoring my hunger pangs / being used to them left me with no realization of just how bad my mental health was, because not eating was normalized to me.
It came to be that even when I had food that I liked and knew was safe, I couldn’t eat it. My body was completely rejecting anything I tried to eat. And I didn’t notice for a while because it “wasn’t” interfering with my life, because it was all par for the course. Starving was par for the course. Like, my mother worried about me moving out on my own because she knew I had to be pushed to eat, otherwise I’d go the whole day and not notice.
I can’t remember when I realized something wasn’t right. I do remember a particular moment in my favourite restaurant, which I didn’t get to go to often because we are poor and it’s a steak place, and I think it was my 18th or 19th birthday, and I had my most favourite things to eat in the world in front of me and... couldn’t eat it. 
In fact, I threw up for my hubris in trying to make myself eat it. 
And I started crying, because I was hungry, I was SO hungry, and this was my favourite food, and it wasn’t fucking cheap, but... I couldn’t eat it. My body wouldn’t let me, and on top of that, I fucking THREW UP on the table. I felt so ashamed and like a horrible person, because of course wait staff has to clean that up, and I was so weak and tired and just wanted to eat my fucking steak and go home... 
(This was when I learned to never, ever, EVER push it if I’m feeling this way lol)
And this kept going on, actually. The explanation was never found until I actually got help for my mental health, but only after urging from my best friend after confessing to them a suicide attempt.
I don’t remember how we went about trying to find the cause before I came in about depression. I remember that I was literally wasting away for like... 5 or so years. It wasn’t just the depression that made me fall asleep in class or in the halls between class. I was always cold, too, cold and weak, and could often be found wedged underneath a radiator at school. I got so small and tired and miserable. My mother says I dropped towards 80 pounds before I finally got help.
I kind of really hate it because I used to be strong, but I was beat down. It was beat out of me, verbally, emotionally. Bullies nobody did anything about, teachers proud of embarrassing me, everyone around me thinking I was obnoxious and retarded, having no actual friends. I used to be able to carry classmates twice my size and take down football players. Now I really am a sack of shit, now in a more literal sense. 
When I fell through the mire, I lost it all. The muscle and the wile and the flexibility. Started failing my classes, when I had previously been among academic elite. None of those kids thought I was smart enough for it either and couldn’t wait to position themselves as better than me when I literally fucking DYING, STARVING TO DEATH, TRYING TO KILL MYSELF.
....But that’s a tangent. Sorry. 
Anyway, once the problem was actually found, and I got put on medication, it was like magic. I could eat again!! I could seriously eat again and not be afraid of throwing up or wasting food or anything!! 
And by god, did I eat. 
A common side effect of psychiatric medication that they don’t seem to explain very well is that your appetite increases. In my case, where I was literally starving, that was like going from 0 to 100 overnight. And I get why it’s a side effect - difficulty eating is a very common symptom of depression and anxiety! - but nobody told me how intense it would be, let alone that I should be careful.
You know how you’re not supposed to feed a starving animal a full bowl of food right away or else they’ll make themselves terribly sick because they’re stupid as hell and will gobble it down in seconds?
Basically, that. I gobbled and gobbled and gobbled everything my fucking hands could snatch, even my not safe foods. Didn’t care that I was shitting my brains out because I could FINALLY EAT AGAIN. I was so excited to EAT AGAIN. 
Well, by starving myself, I had completely destroyed my metabolism. Experts have said it over and over again, starving puts your body in panic mode, and it relegates everything to storage. 
So now I’m fat. I eat the same as I did before the troubles really got going, but because I went through several years of NOT eating, I have completely fucking screwed my body up. I’m fat, fat as hell. 
And I’m pretty sure it’s not my “normal” weight because when I finally sit up out of the fucking mire and get to exercising and eating on a normal schedule, I lose weight, or at least change fat to muscle pretty easily. 
But I’m wracked with stress and little to no feeling of control on my life. My mental health is spiraling again and I’m not eating, let alone eating right, again, and certainly I don’t have the energy to properly exercise myself. 
Back when I first started my job things were better and I was excited because I was losing weight and feeling a little healthier because I was on a regular schedule, but now...
My executive dysfunction is also being a fucking pain in the ass because it keeps waving a metaphorical to-do list in my face and saying, “No!! you can’t exercise now!! look at all this stuff you need to do!! you have so many things to do!! there’s so many things and they need to be done and you can’t do anything ever without doing all the things right now!!”
The consequences are worse now, though. I have to actually drive and be at work and be an adult, which takes a LOT of my energy, and if I don’t eat? I pass out. More vasovagal syncope bullshit combined with the chronic low blood pressure. It was one thing falling asleep in high school, but now I have much more I need to do in a given day thanks to life being, you know, life.
Sunshine and One Eye keep me from letting myself wither, right now. I have to have a job and go to it in order to take care of them. If I didn’t have them, I’d probably quit my job and move back in with my parents and basically fade away. 
Sometimes it’s a curse because I really, really don’t want to live, I don’t want to sustain myself. I’m... really fucking tired, I am beyond tired. 
And I have to force myself to eat, but it’s rarely anything worthwhile anymore. It’s almost always snack food because it’s just so hard to eat anything right now, let alone something fulfilling. It takes me months to go through a bag of pretzels or something because I’m so unwilling to eat. I don’t even buy actual food now, no butter or bread or soup or meat, because I’m so unwilling to eat that it ends up expiring without ever being used. I cleared out my freezer recently and had food in there that expired in 2015. The only thing my fridge has is juice, soda, and milk for cereal for breakfast (the only dairy I’ll be able to eat for the next 12-24 hours unless I’m feeling less sore for once and want an ice cream cone lol). 
So. Uhhh.. I guess that’s it. That’s my problem. Ruined metabolism brought on by starving because depression which was easy to do because I fucked up my eating instincts from a childhood of Angry Stomach vs Angry Adults, and now I’m heading right back in that direction again. 
And I fucking hate it because all my life I’ve been skinny but strong-ish and smol but now I’m just a weakling blob and none of my favourite clothes fit.

Do follow the recipesto “Spec” I know you’re probably a great baker, but because of the alterations to some recipes, it’s very important to follow the ingredients, cook times and amounts very carefully. Don’t over Indulge Yes, you can get too much of a good thing! Don’t take advantage and have dessert every single night of the week. Make these treats when you feel you need them most, or are hosting a gathering etc. Do “make room”foryour desserts While it’s not necessary for every time you want to indulge, I want you to make some “caloric-room” for these desserts. Remember, at the end of the day, if you take in more calories than you need, you will not lose weight that day – you won’t gain weight, but you won’t lose any either. With that said, sometimes you might want to ensure that you do one of your “Movement Sequencing” workouts that day just to account for the extra calories.

1. Lemon Brownies

The classic lemon bars get a Paleo-friendly makeover! They're sweet, bright and so easy with only 5 ingredients! You'd never know these are healthy!
INGREDIENTS
For the crust:
1/4 Cup Honey
1/2 Cup Coconut Oil at room temperature - it should be the consistency of soft butter
1 pinch salt
1 Cup Coconut Flour sifted (95g)
For the lemon topping:
3 large Eggs
1/2 Cup Honey
2 tsps Lemon zest about 1 large lemon
2 tsps Coconut flour sifted
1/2 Cup Fresh* Lemon juice about 3 large lemons
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat oven to 350F and grease baking pan. Beat together honey, coconut oil and salt then slowly add coconut flour until a doughy consistency is formed.
Pour mixture into pan and bake 30 minutes. Then whisk together eggs, honey and lemon zest. In a separate bowl, whish coconut flour into lemon juice 1 tsp at a time. Make sure you continually whisk. Pour lemon mixture into egg mixture while whisking.
Pour topping over top of cooled crust and bake until it sets. Cover and refrigerate at least 6 hours.

2. Sticky Strawberry Crumble

INGREDIENTS
Filling Ingredients
4 cups strawberries
2 tsp tapioca starch
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp lemon juice
Topping Ingredients
1 cup almond flour
½ teaspoon salt
2 tbs coconut oil
3 tbs pure maple syrup
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat oven to 350F. Mix filling ingredients and transfer to baking pan.
Then mix the topping ingredients and evenly spread over the top.
Bake for 30 minutes.
Optional: Sprinkle unsweetened coconut flakes over the top.

3. Chocolate Cake

INGREDIENTS
1 cup sesame flour or sesame meal
1/2 cup ground flaxseed
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup Splenda baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
5 tablespoons sunflower oil
1/2 teaspoon liquid stevia
1 cup water
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
Line an 8 by 8 baking pan with parchment paper.
Whisk together the first 7 dry ingredients.
Make 3 depressions in the dry mixture, 2 small and 1 large.
Pour the vinegar in a small depression, the vanilla  extract and chocolate stevia in the other small depression and the oil in the large depression.
Pour the water over the top and stir until smooth.
Spread the batter into the baking pan.
Place in the middle rack of your oven and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick in the center comes clean.
Allow to cool for 10 minutes then remove by holding the ends of the parchment paper.
Place onto a cutting board to frost then slice.

4. Lemon Cashew Tarts

INGREDIENTS
Cream
1 cup cashews, soaked
1/4 cup filtered water
1/4 cup honey
1 teaspoon raw coconut oil
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Juice form 1 lemon
Pinch Himalayan salt
Crust
1 cup almonds (or choice of nuts)
4 large dates, soaked
Pinch Himalayan salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
INSTRUCTIONS
Place the cashews in a bowl with lemon juice and soak overnight.
Drain and rinse with filtered water.
Process all cream ingredients in a food processor or mixer until smooth. Refrigerate for about an hour.
Mix all crust ingredients in a food processor until chunky. Remove and press into form of choice.
Pour cream on top of crust and garnish. Refrigerate for another two hours until firm.

5. Raspberry and Coconut Glazed Donuts

INGREDIENTS
Donut Base
12 pitted dates
1 cup almond flour
1/2 cup coconut flour
1/4 cup coconut flakes
2 teaspoons stevia/Splenda baking “sugar”
1 teaspoon vanilla bean powder or vanilla extract
3 tbsp liquid stevia
Pink Glaze
2/3 cup raspberries
1/2 teaspoon vanilla bean powder or vanilla extract
1/3 cup coconut butter, softened
1/4 cup coconut milk
3 tablespoons liquid stevia
1 tablespoon lemon juice
Coconut flakes, for garnish
INSTRUCTIONS
Lightly grease a donut pan with coconut oil. Line a tray with parchment paper.
To make the donut base
Place the dates, almond flour, coconut flour, coconut flakes, stevia/Splenda baking “sugar” and vanilla bean powder in a food processor. Process until well combined. While the machine is running, pour the agave nectar in through the top, processing until the dough sticks together, approximately 15 seconds.
Divide the dough into 20 small pieces and firmly press
the pieces into the donut pan. If you don’t have a donut pan, shape the donuts and place them on the parchment-lined tray. Set in the refrigerator while you make the glaze.
To make the pink glaze
Place the raspberries, vanilla bean powder, coconut butter, coconut milk, agave nectar, and lemon juice in a blender and blend until smooth. Pour into a medium bowl.
To assemble
Remove the donuts from the pan by tracing the outside of the donuts with an offset spatula, gently lifting around the edges until they pop out. Working one at a time, place each donut in the glaze bowl so one side gets coated with glaze, then lift it from the bowl with a fork. Tap the fork against the rim of the bowl to allow excess glaze to drip off and place the donut, glaze side up, on the parchment-lined tray. Repeat until all the donuts are coated.
Sprinkle coconut flakes onto the wet donuts and refrigerate for 30 minutes or until the glaze hardens. Serve immediately or store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

6. Raw Peppermint Oreos Dipped in Dark Chocolate

INGREDIENTS
For the Cookies
2/3 cup almonds
2/3 cup brazil nuts
1 cup dates
3 tablespoons carob powder
Pinch of sea salt
1-3 tablespoons water, if needed
For the Vanilla Creme
1 cup coconut chips
1 cup coconut shreds
2 tablespoons almond butter
2 tablespoons melted coconut oil
1/2 teaspoon vanilla powder
1-3 drops of peppermint essential oil, as desired
For the Dark Chocolate
1/2 cup coconut nectar or date paste
3/4 cup cacao powder or carob powder
1 tbsp stevia or sweetener
1/3 cup coconut oil or cacao butter, melted
INSTRUCTIONS
To make the cookies: grind the nuts into flour in a high-speed blender or food processor. Add the rest of the ingredients (except the water) to the nut flour in a food processor and process until it all sticks together in a ball. If it’s still too crumbly after a few minutes, add a little water. I did this and suddenly my very dry mixture became the perfect cookie dough consistency! Roll this dough out between two pieces of parchment paper then cut out cookies with a cookie cutter. Put them in the freezer until they are solid and can be handled without falling apart. If you have any extra dough, make a giant ‘ugly’ cookie and sprinkle it with some sea salt. No dough left behind.
To make the vanilla creme: blend all the ingredients together in a high speed blender, adding the peppermint oil to taste (it’s very potent!) If your blender isn’t powerful enough to blend everything into a thick, coconut butter-like mixture, then add some more coconut oil, and perhaps a liquid sweetener or some dates and water.
Sandwich the coconut creme with cookies, making little dollops on each cookie then gently pressing down another cookie on top. Throw in the freezer for another 30 minutes or until they are solid and very cold.
Mix chocolate ingredients, then pour it into a tall, narrow bowl and dip in your frozen cookies. You will have to have 2-3 rounds of dipping, letting the chocolate on the cookies harden after each time.

7. Peanut Butter & Chocolate Buttercream Cups

INGREDIENTS
1 cup dates
3/4 cup water
Juice from 1 lemon
1/4 cup cacao powder
2 tablespoon cashew butter
2 tablespoons coconut oil
2 tablespoons liquid stevia
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
a Pinch of salt
For the Outside
3 tablespoons coconut oil
3 tablespoons peanut butter
3 tablespoons tahini
INSTRUCTIONS
Blend all the ingredients until smooth.
Refrigerate overnight so it can develop those magical flavors, then spread evenly into your crust.
To Assemble
Stir the outside layer ingredients together in a bowl over steaming water until melted and combined.
Pour 1/3 of this into the bottoms of cupcake papers and try to get some around the sides.
Freeze until solid.
Pour a little more around the sides and freeze until solid again.
Fill with the butter cream then cover with the remaining nut/seed butter mixture.
Freeze for 10-30 minutes then GOBBLE

8. Almond Butter Ice Cream with Chocolate Sauce

INGREDIENTS
For the Ice Cream
2 frozen bananas
1 can frozen coconut cream
1-2 heaping tablespoons almond butter
1 dash of almond or coconut milk
1 pinch cinnamon
1 pinch sea salt
For the Magic Chocolate Sauce
1/4 cup melted coconut oil
1/4 cup cacao powder
1/8 to 1/4 cup preferred liquid sweetener
1 pinch of cinnamon
1 pinch of vanilla
1 pinch unrefined sea sal
INSTRUCTIONS
To Make the Magic Sauce
Blend all your ingredients together until well combined.
Drizzle on top of your smoothies, ice cream or other treats.
To Make the Soft Serve
Blend all ingredients for your ice cream into your high speed blender until well-combined.
Pour a bit of the softy in some cups. Then add a layer of chocolate sauce and keep repeating the same process until the cups are full.
Finish with a layer of chocolate sauce and top up with your favorite toppings.

9. Chocolate Chip Cookies

2 1/2 cups blanched almond flour
1/2 teaspoon Celtic sea salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup grapeseed oil

INSTRUCTIONS
Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl
Stir together wet ingredients in a smaller bowl

10. Banana Cookie Dough Almond Bites

INGREDIENTS
1 large ripe banana
1 cup almond meal
1/2 cup desiccated coconut
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
1 tsp vanilla essence
80-100% dark chocolate chips
INSTRUCTIONS
In a large bowl mash the banana with a fork until smooth.
Add the rest of the ingredients and mix until evenly combined and forms a dough.
Line a small baking tray with parchment or baking paper.
Take 1 tablespoon of the mixture and roll into a small cookie shape. Flatten with the back of a tablespoon or bottom of a glass.
Decorate with sliced almonds or chopped walnuts.
Freeze for 15 minutes then keep in the fridge in an airtight container.
Will keep for 3-4 days depending on the ripeness of the banana used.

11. Crunchy-Punch Bars

INGREDIENTS
1 cup almonds
1/2 cup peanuts
1/2 cup gluten-free brown rice (vegan, crisp cereal)
1/4 teaspoon salt
3 tsp pure maple syrup
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat oven to 325°F. Line an 8-inch square baking pan with parchment paper. Set aside.
Add almonds, peanuts, cereal and salt to a large bowl. Stir until well mixed.
Pour maple syrup over this mixture. Fold until well incorporated.
Pour this mixture into the prepared baking pan. Using a rubber spatula, smooth into a tightly packed, even layer. Bake for 30-40 minutes. Bars must bake thoroughly, or they won’t hold together when cooled.
Allow to cool for 1 hour, or until completely cooled. Use a heatproof spatula to gently lift and loosen bars from parchment. Slice into 12 bars (6 rows by 2 columns).

12. Blueberry Chia Pudding

INGREDIENTS
1 cup homemade almond milk
1/2 cup organic blueberries
2 tablespoons organic chia seeds
1/2 teaspoon organic vanilla bean powder
Stevia or sweetener to taste
INSTRUCTIONS
Add all ingredients to a 16 ounce mason jar and seal it very tightly.
Shake it vigorously until everything is mixed well and put it in the refrigerator for about an hour, or until it thickens to your preference.
Stir it up before serving and add additional blueberries on top, if you prefer.

13. Strawberry Pie

INGREDIENTS
3 tablespoons coconut oil
1 1/2 cups almond flour
3/4 teaspoon stevia (for crust)
1 tbsp stevia (for filling)
3 pounds strawberries
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons corn starch
INSTRUCTIONS
Crust
Heat oven to 350°. Put coconut oil in 8ʹ′ʹ′ pie pan and place in the oven while it is heating to melt the coconut oil. 
Once the oil is melted take the pan out of the oven and add the almond flour and stevia to the pan. 
Mix with a spoon until the dry ingredients are moistened.
Using the spoon (or your fingers) press the mixture down in the pan pushing some up along sides of pan.
Put in preheated oven and bake for 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Let cool before adding strawberry mixture.
Filling
Remove the hulls from all the strawberries and rinse well. 
Puree 1 ½ pounds of the strawberries in a food processor. 
Pour puree in a pan and begin to heat over medium heat. 
Take your stevia stevia, add it as well as the lemon juice, to the puree. Then add the cornstarch and stir to mix thoroughly. 
Continue to cook over medium heat while stirring for about 6-7 minutes or until mixture begins to thicken. 
Let mixture cool for about 15-20 minutes.
Meanwhile cut the remaining strawberries into bitesized pieces. 
Mix these in with the thickened strawberry puree. 
Spoon the strawberry/puree mix into the cooled pie crust.

14. Animal Crackers

INGREDIENTS
1 cup – sunflower seeds
1/4 cup – flaxseed, ground
1/4 cup – coconut flakes
½ cup baking splenda
1 tablespoon – honey
1/8 teaspoon – salt
1 /4 cup – water
INSTRUCTIONS
Place shelled sunflower seeds in a food processor or blender. 
Grind until it's the texture of coarse meal.
Place seed meal into a bowl and add remaining ingredients and stir with a spoon.
Chill in the fridge for 30 minutes.
Spoon batter onto wax paper. 
Cover with wax paper and roll out with rolling pin until 1/4-1/8th inch thick. Cut out shapes.
Place shapes on greased cookie sheet. 
Bake in 300 degrees oven for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and cool on wire rack.
Delicious served with sweetened yogurt.

15. “Honey” Recipe

INGREDIENTS
1 cup cold filtered water divided
⅛ teaspoon xanthan gum
6 tablespoons stevia (powdered)
⅛ teaspoon mineral salt
2 teaspoons honey flavoring, optional
5 drops (or more) yellow food coloring, optional
INSTRUCTIONS
Mix ¼ cup cold water with xanthan gum.
Mix remaining water, sweetener, and salt together in a saucepan. Bring to a boil.
While whisking, mix in the xanthan gum water.
Stir constantly until it begins to thicken.
Remove from heat and add in honey flavoring and food coloring.
Mixture should thicken more as it cools.
Store in an airtight container in the fridge.

16. “Maple-Syrup” Recipe

INGREDIENTS
3 cups Water
2 tsp Natural Maple Flavor
1¾ tsp liquid stevia
1 tsp Xanthan Gum
⅛ tsp Salt
INSTRUCTIONS
In a large blender add the water, maple flavor, and stevia. 
Blend on low speed.
While the blender is running, remove the lid and slowly add the xanthan gum and salt. 
Once everything is incorporated and completely smooth, pour into pretty serving jars, tightly seal, and refrigerate overnight.
Ready to use the next day! Refrigerate to store and shake before using.

The best vegan junk food to satisfy your cravings
Avocado toast, kale salads, and fruit smoothies all have their place. But sometimes nothing will satisfy like some vegan junk food.
Whether it’s a late afternoon handful of chips, an after dinner peanut butter cup, or a candy bar at the movies, there are times in life when vegan junk food beckons.
Vegan junk food
Today I’m sharing four of my favorite kinds of vegan junk food. There are two salty options and two sweet options, because cravings aren’t one size fits all.
Salt & pepper kettle chips
Once I open a bag of salt and pepper kettle chips, I have a hard time thinking about anything else.
I pass by the snack cabinet, and it calls to me from inside with a muffled, “Psst…. Hey, you! Why don’t you grab a handful?”
And therein lies the issue. I am physically unable to stop at just a handful. The balance of salt and pepper, along with that satisfying crunch, keeps me going back for just one more taste.
(I have 46 appetizer recipes on my blog, and 11 dessert recipes. The verdict is clear. I am a salty/savory fan through and through.)
For salt and pepper chips, I like either the Kettle chips or Trader Joe’s brand.
One plus on the side of Kettle Chips is that they offer organic chips in addition to conventional ones. Otherwise, the Trader Joe’s & Kettle chips taste about the same.
(I recently added the salt and pepper chips to my 20+ favorite vegan Trader Joe’s products post, as well as adding four other products. You can find them by scrolling to the last 5 products in the post.)
In addition to putting a handful of salt and pepper chips in your vegan packed lunch with a picnic sandwich, you can also use potato chips as a crust for vegan fried green tomatoes in the air fryer.
Pico de gallo chips
I grew up eating taco pizza and have a huge soft spot for it. In fact, it may be my favorite meal. It combines two beloved foods in one single entrée.
But when I first went vegan, there was a real lack of dairy-free nacho chips to be that final layer on the pizza. So for quite a while, I always made a chip-less taco pizza.
That is totally fine in a pinch, but I really missed that crunchy finish. Plus, after you’ve finished your last slice, it’s fun to go back for one or two more chips as a final taste.
These days, I always have Garden of Eatin’ pico de gallo chips on hand for my vegan taco pizza. It gets that orange coating on your fingers – ripe for licking off afterwards.
The chips are nice and light. When a nacho chip is too healthy tasting or grainy, it’s just not the right finish for a taco pizza.
In addition to their taco pizza prowess, these chips are good with a bagel sandwich with hummus and vegetables.
By the way, these chips weren’t available locally, and I always ordered them by mail. Then I asked my local Natural Grocers to carry it, and they said yes. Now I can get a bag whenever a taco pizza emergency hits.

My favorite vegan candy bar is Eli’s Earth bar in the Dream Big flavor. It’s similar to a Snickers bar with caramel, whole peanuts, and peanut butter covered in chocolate. It also reminds me of chocolate turtles in candy bar form.
Unless you’re buying it online, this candy bar is surprisingly hard to come by. That’s why when I was on my vegan Vancouver trip, I made sure to buy a few at a store there.
Sadly, I can’t find them anywhere locally, but at least once or twice a year I’ll place an order for them online. And I always include them as a Christmas gift idea on my holiday wishlist.
(Making a list is a great way to insure that you’ll receive a vegan gift at the holidays. Plus, they make a terrific stocking stuffer!)
Dark chocolate peanut butter cups
A few nights of the week, David and I have a couple of mini dark chocolate peanut butter cups as an after dinner treat.
While the full-sized dark chocolate peanut butter cups are quite tasty, the mini cups give my preferred peanut butter to chocolate ratio. You get a little more peanut butter in every bite with the minis.
Plus, it extends the joy of it to unwrap two peanut butter cups instead of one. (David and I usually split a full-sized two pack.)
Be aware that not all of the Justin’s peanut butter cups are vegan. So specifically look for the dark chocolate variety.
A while back they changed their packaging to include “contains milk” as an allergen warning, even though there isn’t any milk in the ingredient list.
If you read the FAQ on their site, they explain that this was to clarify for cross contamination reasons, because the milk and dark chocolate cups are processed on the same equipment.
Because I don’t have a dairy allergy, I don’t worry about cross contamination. I’m vegan because I don’t want to pay for someone to abuse animals, not because I’m concerned about the possibility of trace amounts of dairy on my otherwise vegan chocolate.
Until there are more fully vegan businesses producing in fully vegan facilities, cross contamination is a possibility. (I’m working on a more thorough post about the issue of cross contamination that I hope to share soon!)
In addition to being sold at health food stores, Justin’s dark chocolate peanut butter cups are also sold at mainstream stores like Target. That’s very handy for people who don’t have access to health food stores, or just might not otherwise seek them out.
Eat the peanut butter cups on their own, or chop them up to use as a garnish on a grilled banana split.
