Clean Up On Aisle 9

A/n: So not only have I lost all desire to write, but apparently even to post. ahahahaha ohhhhh me. I’ve had this written for over two months and it just kinda sat there. I’m so sorry @somethingtoavenge​ , I hope you don’t mind that I took MONTHS to post. This was for their challenge and I had the prompt “At the end of the day, we all have to live with our choice.” which is a quote from Gossip Girl.

Pairing: Bucky x reader

Warnings: Soft, protective Bucky bear, language I’m sure, mention of daddy kink but no smut at all, hilarious(imo) reaction to mention of daddy kink, ice cream connoisseur Bucky.

Summary: An ice cream run shouldn’t make you feel this soft. Or alternatively, The One Where Bucky is Professor Ice Cream.

Sometimes life catches you off guard with it’s sense of humorous irony.

Like right now for example, two ex assassins looking a pajama clad mess in the ice cream aisle. One is giving a Doctorate level dissertation on the differences between Turtle Tracks ice cream and Moose Tracks while the other one gets lost in the sheer softness of it all. To the untrained eye they would look like a typical husband and wife in their mid thirties just making a snack run at 9:30 on a Friday. Neither one of them exuding even a hint of their true capacity, or the fact that neither of them were even close to thirty. 

Ok, granted that you’re the one getting lost in the softness of it all, but who could dare blame you if they were witnessing what you were getting to experience first hand. Here is your husband, the one and only Winter Soldier, once but a ghost, a whisper, trying to explain to you in detail the pros and cons of getting one flavor over the other after you refused to pick, begging him to just get both. He wouldn’t hear of it, claiming he wasn’t made of money and that he knew most of it would be wasted anyways. You both knew ice cream had no chance of being wasted around him, but you indulged his aisle 9 discourse for a bit before tuning him out, more interested in the way the older lady a few freezers down was watching him curiously.

Admittedly, the two of you were a sight.

You were wearing his plaid shirt, the one he wore more for the way you looked at him when he did than the fact he liked it. It was long, reaching down to your knees, a pair of knee socks meeting the hem, accompanied by a pair of converse that were older than you cared to admit. Your hair was tucked under a hat that you had stolen from Steve years ago.

 Bucky was wearing his hair pulled back in a yellow floral scrunchie, his favorite because it had been yours at one point in time. He had on his favorite shirt(that he only wore when he knew Sam wouldn’t see it and get smug since he had been the one who gave it to him) it was faded red with an arrow pointing towards his face, I’m with stupid written in now peeling white letters. His favorite jogging pants were damn near threadbare, glimpses of his green and red pepper boxers peeking through the holes surrounding his back pockets. He was wearing a pair of shoes he had stolen from Steve… it was a miracle that man had any clothes to wear between the two of you.  

Bucky was still going full steam, discussing the chocolate to ice cream ratio of both options while the lady gave him a once over. His back was turned to her, oblivious to her watchful eye. She looked curious at first, just chancing a glance every so often while trying to not be terribly obvious. You were trained to spot changes in behavior however minimal though, as was Bucky, who noticed the shift in your body instantaneously when your gaze caught hers fully.

He frowns, turning in an attempt to discover what had proven more interesting that his fact filled speil. She’s caught now with a pint of cookie dough in her hand, in the cross hairs of the stare of two strangers that make her inexplicably uneasy. Bucky shifts, softening his body as he attempts to make small talk. “Good brand choice, nice dough to ice cream ratio. I could suggest something better though if you like.”

The lady balks at his attempt, frowning fully now as she drops the carton into her cart. She starts to move towards the two of you, nearly brushing against the shelf on the far side of the aisle to avoid you both. “Alllllright.” He says with a dramatically indifferent shrug. “Your loss.”

“ Some people don’t deserve your wisdom baby.” You add nonchalantly, openly laughing at the stranger’s theatrics. 

She pauses momentarily, catching your eye as she mumbles at what she thinks is a safe level, unaware of the people she was dealing with. “Freak.”

“Bucky, don’t.” 

But her cart’s already knocking against the shelf, bread tumbling down atop her groceries. Her eyes are wide as he stands in front of her, controlled enough not to touch her, barely a whisper of space between them though. He’s wearing a menacing smile, one that makes her try to back her buggy up, but his grip is too firm. “You know…” he speaks with a misleading tone of softness as he trails his silver fingers over the matching silver of the cart. “It takes very little effort for me to do terrible things. Almost as little effort as it takes for you to be kind to my wife.” Her eyes dart from his to yours and back before he speaks again. “It’s important to remember that appearances can be deceiving and nothing good comes from judgement. I’d like for you to apologize.”

“I’m sorry.” She mumbles, hands shaking as he releases her cart and she scurries off.

“Have a nice night.” He calls behind her with a chuckle, choosing to ignore the look you’re directing at him when he turns.

“Was that necessary?” You ask with a sigh as he turns, the two ice creams of his previous discussion in either hand.

“People should respect their elders.” He says with a shrug and a sly smile, holding his hands out for you to choose.

“She had no way of knowing she was talking to an 84 and 102 year old, Buck.” You chuckle, taking the Moose Tracks from him and sitting it inside the cart.

“That’s still no reason for her to be rude to my wife.” He looks at the ice cream in the cart and back up at you with a questioning look, the other option still in his hand. “You sure?”

“Yes dad, I’m sure.” You huff, rolling your eyes as you bump his but with the cart.

“Ohh exploring a daddy kink on the ice cream aisle? Freak.” His eyes are dancing mischievously as he places the remaining ice cream in the cart, waiting for your reaction to his word choice with a smug grin.

“You’re a freak,” you quip playfully, biting at the frigid finger he pokes at your cheek. “Keep dreaming, you know that’s a hard no for me.”

“Oh we’ll see what’s hard later on, won’t we baby?” He growls, pulling playfully at a loose piece of hair before jumping out of the way of your foot.

One of your favorite things about being married to Bucky is getting to see him like this. This is reserved for only you, and of course Steve sometimes, but that’s different. This is one of your favorite perks outside the bedroom. 

He’s sitting beside you on the couch, face green and starting to flake from the mask he’d let you rub on him twenty minutes earlier. He’s arguing with the Bachelorette’s reasoning, stating that clearly Brian C is NOT the right choice for her. Tub of ice cream between his crossed legs, melting from the raised spoon, licks given blindly as he refuses to take his eyes off the screen. The cat grows tired of the sticky rain, scurrying off his lap in a noisy rant, which falls on deaf ears.

This is your chance to get exactly what you want out of him.

“Bucky?” 

“Hmm?” he asks, not bothering to look at you or his spoon as he lifts it to his mouth, tongue barely gathering any of what it had sought.

You run your hand up his neck, pulling his hair free as you slip the scrunchie onto your wrist. “Baby….”

“Oh no you don’t.” He chuckles, still not turning his eyes from the screen.

“But Buuuuucky….” You whine, pouting as you scoot closer so that you can kiss at his neck.

“No.”

“Pleaseeee?” You beg, biting at his ear.

“You’re insufferable.” He huffs, pausing the screen to scoot back from your advances, turning to look at you with a smug and knowing grin. “And the answer is still no.”

You pout,  frustrated as you cross your arms across your chest, mind obviously trying its best to come up with a scheme that would get you what you desire. A sour look passes across your face, mouth turning down as if the thought itself left an unpleasant taste on your tongue. You wanted it more than he had even thought, this was going to be interesting. With a shake of your head you clear your face, turning your sweetest smile onto him with a flutter of eyelashes.

He’s intrigued but skeptical at best.

“Can I have some…” a pause as you falter, nose turning up against your will and he instantly knows exactly what you’re angling at. It takes everything in him to keep a straight face as you suck in a breath and try again. “Can I have some, dad-” The sound of your gag makes him break, falling back in stiches as you tell him to fuck off.

“Ohhhhhh that’s rich. You thought…. That… ohhhh.” He finally manages through his laughter, wheezing. “Oh fuck...I can’t breath.”

“Shut up, I hate you.” You snap, reaching for what you want while he’s distracted. 

Damn reflexes.

“No means no.” He chuckles, pulling his pint of Turtle Tracks away from you to take an oversized bite. “If you had listened to me you could have made an informed decision.”

“If you hadn’t of gotten us banned from the only store that carries that brand I could go get my own.” 

“At the end of the day we all have to live with our choices.” He shrugs, eyes going wide as he rolls off the couch to avoid your lunge. He’s trying to run from you, but instead he trips over the now furiously screeching cat, cursing as his ice cream goes flying, landing with a skid across the linoleum of the kitchen floor while he lays curled on his side at your feet, avoiding your eyes.

“Yes Bucky,” you say with a nod, stepping over him and into the kitchen, picking up the carton off the floor and leaving the mess to return triumphantly to the couch. “Yes we do.”

Barista || Steve Rogers x Reader Fluff

Summary: Reader works in the café as a barista. During one of her shifts she meets Steve Rogers himself. A certain sympathy develops between them.

A/N: This story was written for @somethingtoavenge writing challenge. Congratulations on 1K!

It's been half a year since you were working in the café as a barista. You enjoyed your work and workplace. You even made friends with other girl, Hannah, which was working at the same shift as you.

She was always nice and kind towards you and heard you out many times when you were having problems of any kind.

 It was another night shift, this time on Saturday, and you were cleaning your workplace, setting cups into cabinets, washing a coffee machine.

 You had to take additional hours, bills were overwhelming you and truth was you needed some extra money.

The bell hanging next to door rang informing you that a new customer stepped in.

 "How can I help you?," you asked sweetly polishing one of the cups, not even looking at the newcomer.

 "Black coffee, please," strong, manly voice answered and it was when you raised eyes on the customer.

 How huge was your disbelief when you saw Steve Rogers himself leaning elbows against the counter top.

His blue eyes were watching you carefully, his brow was cocked a little and head tilted aside.

 "Uhm..," you couldn't form any sentence and suddenly you felt a strong poke aimed right into your left side.

 It's no one else but Hannah, who came to help you.

 "For here or to go?," she asked with a little smile, awaiting for his answer.

 You shifted aside to make her a room around the coffee machine.

 "To go," he answered simply but sent her a little smile. He looked over you and smiled again.

 You felt a blush hitting your cheeks so you smiled back messily and turned around to put cups into the cabinet.

 Hannah prepared his order quickly and handled the covered cup to him.

Rogers paid and walked out of the shop.

 "Fuck," you whispered, massaging your temple. "I froze. I didn't know what to do, I never knew someone like him would visit us," you explained yourself briefly.

 Hannah came to you and stroked your shoulder. "Don't worry. He comes here every weekend to grab a coffee, sometimes with muffin," said she. "You never met him here before probably because you were working only during the week."

 You nodded. "I feel so stupid!"

  She laughed at your words. "Don't worry. He's Captain America after all. The greatest hero. It's okay to be surprised."

Hannah was right.

 You met Rogers again one week later, also during Saturday's evening shift.

 This time you were aware of his presence since the moment the bell rang.

 Steve came to the counter and took a seat at hooker staying in front of it.

 "Hi," you whispered hesitantly. "Black coffee? To go?," you asked quietly.

 Steve nodded, smiling a little. "Yes, please. I see that you remember."

 You smiled back and in the silence prepared his order.

 "I haven't seen you here before," Steve said out of sudden. "How long do you work here?"

 "Uhm, six months now," you stated. "I study as well and you know, every coin is important," you added quickly.

 Steve smiled at you. "I understand perfectly."

 "I'm sorry for the last awkwardness," you rubbed the back of your head. "I was just surprised..."

 "Don't need to be worried about it," Steve said as he got up from the high chair. "It's a human thing to be caught off guard sometimes."

 When he left you sat on your chair and slipped hands under chin, sighing loudly.

  Hannah came to you and handled you a mug of coffee. "You could live a hundred lifetimes and never deserve that boy," she said. "I know the way you look at him, Y/N. Forget it. He'll never look at someone like you nor me."

For the next few weeks you were always meeting Steve on weekend shifts and your conversations evolved in that time.

 You were always happy to see him entering café with that disarming smile of his.

 And then Thanos happened...

 Half of living creatures were wiped off the world. It was very sad and bad days, yet you and Hannah survived the snap. To not lose senses from sadness and grief, you both decided to continue leading the café.

There were only a few clients per day, but it cheered you and Hannah up. Even the shortest talk with other human being was priceless.

That evening he came in as every previous weekend.

But this time he ordered two coffees to go.

 "Oh, so you meet with someone? A friend or someone else?," you teased him a little, preparing cups and covers.

 "Actually yes, I am."

 "May I ask with who?," you asked sweetly.

 "Someone who has turned out to be a good friend of mine. Who heard me out many times. Who have given me a shoulder I could lean on."

 You nodded head and put two covered cups on the counter. "Here, your order is ready. Be careful. Hot," you smiled.

 Steve grabbed cups and turned around to walk off the shop but stopped at the door. "What are you waiting for?," Steve asked, looking at you above his shoulder.

 You blinked. "M... Me? You meant ME?"

 "Yes," Steve replied. He offered you his shoulder. "Shall we?"

 "I...," you blushed and coughed. "I have shift.. I.."

 "Don't worry, Y/N."

You looked around to see Hannah leaning casually against the door to the back of the café.

 "May I...?," you asked hesitantly.

 "Of course," she nodded happily. "Go. Just be careful!"

 Steve giggled loudly. "Don't you worry, I'll lead her back home."

You walked at Hudson river. You took a seat at one of the benches at the promenade and watched the rising moon on the sky. Few stars were peering through the clouds.

 That early night was brisk, easterly wind blow gently ruffling your hair.

 "Thank you, that's so kind of you," you said, taking a sip from your cup. Coffee tasted delicious.

 "Thanks goes to you, Y/N," Steve said after taking a deep breath. "You know, everything's changed and I still didn't get over it."

 "I understand, neither did I," you replied softly and quietly. "It was so sudden... And it has left a huge pain in everyone."

 "Yeah," Steve nodded. "I try to do whatever it takes to... I don't even know. I'd gladly turn back time."

 "Hey," you turned to him and put a hand to his shoulder. "It wasn't your fault. We talked about it. No one could have stopped him."

 "I could have tried harder," Steve grunted and sipped onto his coffee. He slipped a hand into his bangs, pulling it up. "I wish I could do something. It's not right. There has to be something I can do."

 He wrapped an arm around you and pulled you closer so you were leaning head against his wife chest and he rested his chin over top of your head.

 "Don't worry. I believe you'll figure out what to do. You ain't alone in this. I'll support you, whatever you'll decide. I know I'm just an ordinary person but I can help, I'm hard working."

 Steve giggled and slipped two of his long fingers beneath your chin, forcing you to raise your head and look into his eyes.

"I know. Thank you for being so good to me. If not you, I don't know what I would do," he stated.

 He looked into your eyes. His blue eyes sparkled from moon's light that went finally through clouds. Steve leant down to you and his lips were pressed to yours in a soft kiss.

You blinked but gave kiss back, you closed your eyes and touched his bearded cheek.

 "Uhm...," you whispered in shock. "Oh... I... Wow...," you blushed hardly and immediately slipped head under his shoulder to hide it from his eyes.

 Steve smiled and stroked your back. "So as I see, not only I was hesitating before doing it," he joked briefly.

 You nodded your head and turned to him. "Yes," it was nothing but a soft whisper. "It was so nice," you couldn't find proper words to describe how were you feeling.

 "Maybe I can ask you for a dinner tomorrow, Y/N? What do you think?," Steve asked openly.

 You nodded eagerly. "It will be a pleasure to me! I just hope that Hannah will give me a few hours off."

 Steve got up from the bench and waited politely for you to join him. As you did, he wrapped an arm around your waist.

 "So. I'll lead you back home now, as I promised to your friend," Steve said. "It's a nice meeting. Thank you for this."

 You smiled and nuzzled to his chest. "I'll do whatever it takes to make you smile, Steve. Always."

You think it’s safe to say that Peter definitely forgot about your study date when you go to walk into his room from the bathroom to see him standing, facing away from you, taking off his red and black suit. He taps his chest and the fabric loosens from its tight fit letting him slide the arms from his shoulders and the rest drops to the floor in a mass of fabric. This wasn’t how you were expecting your night to go. 

Peter is usually late to his plans, even the ones at his apartment, so you weren't surprised when you had to use the hidden spare key to let yourself into his and May’s apartment. You’d walked through the kitchen and grabbed an apple and juice pouch from the fridge before you headed into your boyfriend’s room to start studying. You had all your necessary notes and assignments for the night laid out on the bed, stacked in order of importance: Chemistry first because of the test you have tomorrow, World History next because of the test on Friday, and Trig Calc last because you could always copy MJ’s answers in lunch if you didn’t get to it tonight. For about thirty minutes you shuffled around in your chemistry notes, finding answers to the study guide but you decided you should probably use the bathroom before you get too invested in the work.

Returning from a bathroom trip to see Spiderman in Peter’s bedroom is definitely a weird scenario. It’s even weirder when Spiderman turns out to be Peter. He turns once he’s shedded the suit on the floor to see you standing, wide-eyed, in his doorway. 

“(Y/N)! H-How long have you been standing there?”

“Um, long enough to find out that you’re Spiderman,” you say, a dumbstruck look still slapped on your face.

“W-what? No! I-I’m not Spiderman,” he exclaims, “I’m just a, um, cosplayer. Yeah, I’m a cosplayer and I didn’t want you to know.”

“Peter, I may be an idiot, but I’m not stupid.” Your boyfriend is most definitely Spiderman. It all makes sense now: the disappearing act he pulls constantly, him always showing up late, that time in Washington for the Decathlon meet, the fact that he’s got a fucking six pack yet he does nothing but watch Star Wars and do homework. Peter, your lovely, innocent Peter, is a superhero. 

After a good minute or two of the both of you standing still in silence, he goes to step out of the suit to put on some actual clothing rather than just standing around in his boxer shorts. You walk over to the suit from the doorway and pick it up hesitantly, trying your best not to somehow fuck it up, and drape it over the back of his wheely chair. “Peter,” you say, and he hums in acknowledgement, trying his best to seem indifferent to what just happened, “ I can tell you’re freaking out right now, and I just want you to know that... I’m all good with this. I won’t tell anyone or anything, I won’t let this mess with our relationship, like... We’re all good.” At that, he turns to you with glassy eyes and launches his body in your direction, tackling you in a hug.

“Oh my god, you have no clue how relieved that makes me. Ned and May both found out exactly like this and Ned thought it was cool and May was kinda stuck with it, y’know, but I didn’t know if you were going to be cool with it and-”

You kissed him softly, gripping the soft blue fabric of his sweater in your fists. “You’re so cute,” you mumble against his lips, making him smile. 

“You’re cuter,” he responds softly, “I love you.”

“I love you, too, Spidey.”

I think it’s absolutely crazy to say that I’ve reached 2 thousand followers, thank you all so so much for following me!! I’ve been quite busy for the past few months but I hope that I can be a lot more active from now on! x But for now, I wanted to start another writing challenge (very original I know but I just love them!) with a lot of prompts to choose from! I wrote a lot of them by myself and I hope that one of them speaks to you! And a huge thanks goes out to @cosmicdaya who created the header, I love it so much!

To celebrate I decided to host a writing challenge! (Yay. Omg, you’re so original, Kat, how do you come up with all your ideas?) 

I have planned this way before I decided to do the One Direction Writing Challenge, so yeah, I’ll be hosting the two now because I really wanted to do this one lol.
