I'm not gonna indulge too much in my Undertale AU on Tumblr, I am gonna just keep it private as I do wanna keep my main focus on my FNAF AU, but here y'all go

It's a little rough, but people really liked my Mettaton AU design so I wanted to desperately draw him :')

It's not the best, but I wanted to draw something today.

The mysterious royal scientist Gidget/The beloved superstar Gittaton

The most beautiful in all the underground, publicly Gidget is a superstar, covering TVs, all over every poster and magazine. Fans gather for autographs and the waiting lists to appear on her show are years long! A bright smile a cheerful tone holds everyone's attention.

But... She is also the identity of the royal scientist, a role that is filled but no one knows by who, only that they work hard. The only person that knows that Gidget is the royal scientist is Cecil who found out by pure accident while running an errand.

As Gittaton, she looks like herself mixed with Mettaton EX with a fully robotic body. As Gidget, she has shorter hair (closer to the post act 5 cut version), high heeled feet are replaced by trainer feet and she wears a lab coat that hides her figure.

Publicly is outwardly upbeat, walking with a spring in her step and an always uplifting tone in her voice. She moves with confidence and grace, always taking time to take pictures and sign autographs. Though privately, she's a lot less cheerful, keeping to herself and throwing herself completely into her work, constantly being reminded to look after herself by Cecil.

Much like in Undertale, the true lab does exist, despite having everyone calling her beautiful, amazing, a superstar... She feels wrong, like something is missing. That doesn't be possibel, she put together her own body to be perfect, how could she not feel good about it?

So, she decides that her problem must be that her body is one of metal and not of flesh and blood and she does what she can do to make a new body. I think the details are best left to it's own post but the previous fake Iggy post shows some details after the initial experiments. One thing I will say is that what she created was not meant to think at all, just a body for her to use.

Towards Iggy, she sees him as a chance, an opportunity for many things. His appearance on her shows could boost ratings, she could use his wish to fix her or she could use his attention. Besides, to her, he's real easy on the eyes.

In the story, both sides of her are shown to Iggy, the more recluse side through the social media notifications and the superstar side through Mettaton silliness.

For the neutral/pacifist fight in the CORE, she starts in her scientist form, explaining how she feels wrong for the start. Then she suddenly closes the distance between herself and Iggy and pins him to the wall behind him. She makes an advance even she wasn't expecting, progressing the fight requires using a "Push away" act. She sees him as a coward and he doesn't deny that feeling, unlocking the yellow SOUL as Gidget transforms into her superstar form.

Lights, camera, action!

The fight goes similarly with the ratings based system for pacifist. At the end of the ratings victory, Gidget explains her desire to be more beautiful and to use the wish for it but callers pour in that care less about what she looks like and more that she's always so cheerful and personable. One final call from Cecil (or Genzou if Cecil is... Not around) to wish Gidget good luck if she gets what she wants and not to forget her friends. She finally gives up, wishing Iggy the best and letting him continue with a word of warning about the queen.

If she is fought, she will eventually sustain a critical wound across her stomach, wires falling out and sparks flying. Her eyes lose their confident light before she collapses onto the ground. While is appears that she is dead, leaving and re-entering the room will have her body disappear.

For the murder route, the fight opens the same but instead of pushing her away, Iggy attacks her causing her to go all out as much as she doesn't want to critically harm him. She puts up more of a fight than Mettaton NEO, using mechanical themed attacks that hurt very much (who wants to be hit by a sawblade?). At the end of the fight, she's sliced in half. Unlike in the neutral route, she does not disappear after leaving and returning to the room.

For the true pacifist ending, you take some data from Cecil to the lab, have an extremely awkward hangout in a place that "Cecil's brother says is private" (it's the dump still) where you get interrupted by Orlam which cares Gidget and causes her to flee. Again, true lab will be focused on later

For the design, I replaced the heart on the belt with a watch to represent her friendship with Cecil and the pink with a soft purple (her text colour in OW).

The main standout thing in that, she's not human at all here! Going from a ghost to a feminine robot to achieve her goals even though she doesn't feel great about it, she feels like she has to do it to be happy. But without someone to focus that energy into (Iggy, of course), she starts to snap about her body but that is true lab stuff (I'm building this up but it's not the biggest shock I don't think >.<)

Gonna be honest, I didn't feel good about drawing Gittaton, not used to drawing them with long hair! And look at Iggy finding the camera outside the Ruins door!

Mettaton originally appears as a gray, largely rectangular box with a 4x5 grid of rectangular lights at the top, similar to the mechanism in Snowdin Forest used for Papyrus's Tile Puzzle. The grid of lights can change colors between red, yellow, green, and blue, and Mettaton uses these color changes in place of facial expressions. He has four dials along the bottom of his body, and the bottom, he has a single leg which ends in a wheel. He has two segmented robotic arms which end in white gloves.

After having the switch on his back flipped in the Neutral or True Pacifist Route, Mettaton transforms into Mettaton EX; a new body he specially requested Alphys make for him. In this humanoid form, he has black hair with a long fringe that seems to cover his right eye, pale "skin" and visible metal segments below and above his left eye.

He has a pink chest piece, a narrow metallic waist with a box contraption, and black shoulder pads above his segmented arms, which end in gloves. The chest piece has what appear to be a speaker and some knob or gauge, while the waist has two parts that seem to act as a locking mechanism that holds his "heart-shaped core," as they both lose white pixels during his "heart-to-heart" attack. His long black-clad legs end in pink high-heeled boots.

After being confronted by the protagonist on the Genocide Route, Mettaton transforms into Mettaton NEO, which resembles Mettaton EX, but has a more combat-oriented design, however Mettaton NEO can be killed by a single attack and has no attacks of his own.

His right forearm is replaced by what appears to be a cannon, pauldrons clad his shoulders, which are shaped like legs and are longer than his arms, and he has wings on his back. The soul on his waist points upwards in a more monster-like manner, and he has a heart shape engraved on his chest plate like Undyne the Undying, also mimicking the Delta Rune in the same ways. His hair on the right side is spiked out, revealing an entirely black segment of his face, with a sparkle or crosshair in place of his right eye.

Mettaton is a confident, charismatic, and charming TV host that loves drama, action, and violence. He lives for his ratings and adores performing. He supposedly strikes a pose when he does something wrong and makes time on his various shows to beat up "heel-turning villains." He shows a rather shallow appreciation for existence at times. He has a strong craving for attention and seems very egotistical, shown when he boasts about the beauty of his true form. However, despite his seemingly self-centered personality, he deeply cares about the seemingly positive impact his show has had on the inhabitants of the Underground. He has also shown soft spots for several characters, such as Alphys and Napstablook. He also appears to be among the fewer characters in the Underground that has no hate or prejudice against humans despite knowing about the monsters' history with them, since his initial attempts to kill the protagonist were just him playing along with Alphys's plan, and he outright tells the protagonist he has no desire to hurt humans and is far more interested in simply entertaining. While he did attempt to kill the protagonist, it was to prevent Asgore from taking their SOUL and be seen as a hero/savior to humankind, further emphasizing his lack of prejudice. On the flip side, he has also been noted to be a very demanding boss who is very unpleasant to work for, especially according to Burgerpants, who initially considered working for him a dream, but has since grown to strongly despise him.

Donut appears to be an unglazed, plain doughnut. His main body/pastry part is a light beige-apricot color. His shape also allows him to resemble the number 0, which gives him the ability to be multiplied by Four (a.k.a, having Four's liquefied body replace his filling).

He is filled with cherry jam filling that was first seen in "Get in the Van" when his cut-up remains were used during Cake at Stake. According to Ruby, it resembles blood, and tastes good. His hole functions as his mouth, and rapidly contracts and changes shape to process words. Although his voice normally sounds airy and dry, his voice becomes very strained when he is stressed.

In "Balancing P.A.C.T.", Yellow Face takes his arms, making him armless and look very similar to his appearance in "The Reveal".

In his early appearances, Donut was somewhat rude and irritable in BFDIA, and as he was eliminated first, not much of his personality is shown. He did not get along very well with any of the other contestants, like Coiny or Pencil.

However, in Battle for BFDI, Donut is more considerate and thoughtful of other contestants, especially his teammates. He has been seen getting along with Bottle, looking out for Bomby, calling Gelatin his "brother", attempting to inspire and rally his teammates to win a challenge, telling X that he was a good host, defending Bell when everyone was climbing her string, and sacrificing himself to save Spongy from lava. He believes everyone should be treated with respect and not as objects.

Generally, Donut is a rational person, similar to his teammate, Barf Bag. However, when provoked, he easily becomes emotional and angry, and usually resorts to yelling, with his interactions with Gelatin and wanting to blow up Bomby as examples, but in some ways, Donut can be nice to others.

However, this changes after he absorbs Four in "Four Goes Too Far" and becomes the host. He becomes more rude and arrogant to the other contestants and finds happiness in rubbing failure in the face of others. For instance, he mocked Loser at his elimination, which is something no other object would do. He was also shown to be somewhat biased towards his team in "Questions Answered". However, after he resigned as host and gave the position to X, Donut returned to form and became nicer when his sense of power was removed.

I'm thinking this post out as I type it, but if both Jevil and Spamton had shadow crystals on them which let you see into the Light World, specifically wherever your Dark World location aligns with...

I have thoughts forming, but they're not fully solidified yet... so let's say the Knight isn't just a villain. Toby Fox games explore a lot of moral nuance, after all, so... maybe the Knight wasn't/isn't actively trying to drive secret bosses mad (of which we just know there'll be more). I'm wondering if Jevil and Spamton were plans that went wrong. They both had shadow crystals on them, so they could've both seen... too much?

And speaking of Spamton. I'm just spitballing here, but while a lot of parallels between Spamton and Mettaton + Mad Mew Mew are noticeable, the tunnel track sounds like a slow-down of Your Best Nightmare and the green cables remind me of Flowey's vines... The "rainbow-winged boss" for an "epic game" that "looks like it never saw the light of day," while an Undertale callback, refers to Asriel's boss fight and is found on the computer in his and Kris's room. "Hopes and dreams" were poured into the Neo body that nothing came of.

Basement...

...What do Asriel-- no, what do Flowey and Mettaton have in common? Alphys. More specifically, the true lab in the basement. Where we find the entries and the DT extractor. Where Mettaton's body was built and Flowey was created. And the true lab is another place strongly associated with W.D.

(As a quick aside, how do the people of the Card and Cyber Kingdoms know each other if they're not of each other's Dark Worlds and can't last long in each other's? Did they used to be a united world? How could Spamton know Jevil? How could Queen and Spade King be like exes toward each other?)

--Oh, wait, back to true lab! In Undertale, Alphys had spent a lot of time trying to help people at a desperate time. But then, seemingly out of nowhere, it was like she disappeared and nothing came of her efforts because no one knew that something went wrong.

...I think Spamton is more specifically a nod to True Lab.

OH YES! Mettaton was ranked fourth favorite character among fans, with 138 votes, amounting to 5.2% of responders.

Many of Mettaton’s fans love the queer representation he provides. He is heavily trans coded, with a backstory revealed through his diary entries and phone calls. “Mettaton closely resembles the trans experience. It was very uplifting for me,” one Mettaton fan responded.  For many fans, this was one of their first times seeing a transgender character, and many queer fans see themselves in him. Several other fans say that they appreciate his lack of a canon love interest, and headcanon him as asexual. 

Fans also cited his confidence as one of his best traits. It is also impossible to miss his flamboyance. “I just tend to enjoy smug, cocky, flamboyant, and possibly narcissistic characters with hearts of gold,” a fan said.  Another take on him used the phrasing “extremely confident, charismatic, and exuberant personality, and he is overall very charming.”  Another popular character trait of his is his humor.  “Also the way he talks is HILARIOUS,” one fan said.

A lot of Mettaton fans said that they loved his music and his acting as a tv show host, which he would be thrilled to hear. (Maybe if they’re lucky, Mettaton will let them join his fan club for free.)

At the same time, Mettaton does have insecurities. A large portion of fans pointed out his fear of coming out to his ghost family as one of the most relatable things about him. This makes even more fans see themselves in him, whether it is because they are closeted or because they are afraid to share something else about themself with the world. 

Some fans brought up Mettaton’s arc in the Queen Alphys and No Mercy routes, where Mettaton NEO fights to buy time for the monsters to escape, even though he knows it’s likely he won’t survive. He also shows other signs of selflessness, which provides an interesting contrast with his more visible narcissism. As one fan pointed out, his generosity or selflessness is present on every route: “He’s kind and supportive of people he barely knows, like the employees at his hotel and the lion he gives his dress to. In the neutral route, after Frisk proves themself to be strong enough to protect humanity, he sacrifices his lifelong dream to be a star on the surface because he doesn’t want to disappoint the monsters who love him and he cares about making the Underground a better place. He sacrifices his life in the genocide route so he can save Alphys and the monsters she evacuates with. In the pacifist route, instead of going straight to the surface like he always wanted, he goes back for Napstablook.”

Of course, many fans find him hot, though some point out that it is in an aesthetic sense and that they are not actually attracted to him.  “I mean, yeah, he's hot, but I don't think I ever really had a crush on him or anything.”  His attractiveness is treated as more of an inherent fact about his character than a subjective opinion.  (Mettaton would be inclined to agree.)

Between his infectious charisma, the queer representation he provides, and his backstory dealing with fear of rejection, a common theme among his responses was a sense of inspiration. Even though he is affectionately called “problematic” and “evil,” by many of his fans, his flair for drama and the way his entire story is an allegory for being transgender gives many fans hope that they can one day be as confident in themselves as he is.  That’s what he would want for his LEGacy, darlings!

He's unique, he's lovable, he's annoying and rude and narcissistic at times, he learns and grows just like every fantastically written character in this game, he has a fantastic arc, he has a wonderful design, and I wanna know where he bought his boots.

I love his design a lot but mostly I like his character development, the different layers you get to discover in the different routes and his charismatic personality. The fact that at first he seems to be an egocentric ambitious egotistical star but then you get to discover how good he was with everyone or how he was willing to even sacrifice himself so more monsters could be saved in the neutral and genocide routes make him very "human" and enchant me.

Mettaton is a False Prophet - Pt. 2

This is a continuation post from my older theory back when Undertale was still the big thing that Mettaton was a false prophet designed by Alphys and Asgore to fulfill the Deltarune prophecy, which explains all of his eerie similarities to Flowey and Asriel. Here is Part 1 if you wanna catch up!

[UPDATED INFO FROM DELTARUNE CH. 2]

With the debut of Deltarune Chapter 2 came a fan-favorite newcomer called Spamton, and the interesting thing about his character is that it has a lot of similarities with Mettaton, especially his secret form known as ‘Spamton NEO.’ Now, the general story behind his character is that he was once a spam email puppet account who was never able to make a deal. This was his life until he was called by a mysterious person who suddenly made him wildly successful by continually aiding his career over the phone, eventually causing his friends to leave him over their envy of his newfound success. This success eventually landed him a spot in Queen’s mansion until it all came crashing down one day, and the only remnant left of him was a dead phone line tied to him that only repeated static back at anyone who tried to call it.

As everyone’s likely aware of now, there is a hidden bossfight in which you can, once specific conditions are performed, fight Spamton NEO, a version of Spamton hooked up to a suit that unabashedly resembles the same form Mettaton took on in the no mercy route of Undertale. This suit has been referred to as ‘the machine’ which is described by Swatch as the creation of an unknown Lighter, “digitally visualizing their hopes and dreams which never came to be.” This then became an incomplete dream which was locked in Queen’s basement. In battle, the fight also resembles the fights the player had with Mettaton through Undertale, with their soul turning yellow and shooting projectiles to take Spamton down. But the similarities between the fight against Mettaton Ex and Spamton NEO don’t end there, as both fights involved taking apart components of the body gradually over the course of the battle, with Mettaton having his limbs blown off and Spamton having his strings cut.

Now, this backstory is all very important as it alludes back to the body’s origin in Undertale as a creation of Alphys to make its host proficient at killing and absorbing a human soul. The description of the body is textually different but similar, in that Mettaton NEO was designed for the purposes of killing explicitly whereas Spamton NEO’s body is described by Swatch as being an agent in which one can envision their hopes and dreams through an implicit power of determination.

It’s important to note here that, career-wise, Mettaton is quite similar to Spamton in that they both had great and newfound success upon accepting a deal that gave them some meta-knowledge of the world they inhabit, with Spamton being told that the world he lives in is a game that can be exploited (as implied by his dialogue), and Mettaton was granted some of the same abilities that Flowey possesses (changing the game’s name, being able to audibly speak, and being a monster soul possessing an inanimate object). Whereas Mettaton is a story of continued success, Spamton is a story of failure, but how does this fit into the context of the theory that Mettaton was a failed attempt to fulfill the Deltarune prophecy?

That quote from Swatch on describing the purpose of the body is important to explaining this, as it eerily resembles Mettaton’s role in Undertale’s story as a machine designed to harvest a human soul and potentially fulfill the Deltarune prophecy but was unsuccessful to do so because Mettaton is a false prophet. The theme of false prophecy and failed transcendence is exemplified by Spamton’s backstory, as the power of meta-textual awareness granted to him (by Gaster presumably) resulted in short-term success that rose him to the heavens only for him to fall down hard back into being forgotten. The fall he suffers from cutting off his strings is a dual-layer metaphor for how Spamton fell from success and how Mettaton was unable to fulfill the Deltarune prophecy unlike his parallel successor Flowey.

And if it wasn’t obvious that Mettaton’s constant desire for your soul is equivalent to Spamton’s desire for [hyperlink blocked], he goes on record describing all of the control he’d have over his life if he were to harvest your [hyperlink blocked], implying that the hyperlink is code for determination. Spamton also routinely refers to “heaven” throughout his dialogue, which could imply anything transcendental, but I believe this is also another direct allusion to the Deltarune prophecy and its description of an angel: The divine vocabulary fits. Perhaps Mettaton was trying to indirectly achieve this reception from heaven through his promulgation as an icon of monsterkind wanting so desperately to have a human audience? Perhaps this constant appeal ‘heaven’ is Spamtron’s version of Mettaton’s constant appeal to a nebulous audience? If that’s the case, it implies that the audience of Mettaton has divine power, which seems to suggest that it’s composed of far more than just monsterkind. Another minor thing to note here is that Spamton also refers to “the presses” if you defeat him by depleting his health bar: “WAIT!! [$!?!] THE PRESSES!”

“KRIS, DON'T YOU WANNA BE [Part] OF MY BEAUTIFUL [Heart]?” is a very unsubtle nod to the process Chara and Asriel underwent to bypass the barrier and return to the Surface. There must be something about the abilities that the NEO suit offers that is implicitly tied to the Deltarune prophecy. Spamton’s constant use of the phrase ‘big shot’ is another multi-layered metaphor. The ‘big shot’ in question is a triple entendre, as it refers not only to Spamton’s aspirations, but also the fulfillment of the Delta Rune prophecy and also more banally refer to the yellow soul’s newfound ability to shoot a charge shot.

After sparing Spamton NEO, he offers some dialogue that resembles Flowey’s plea to you after defeating his Photoshop form, in which he asks why you’re showing him mercy after all of the unnecessary cruelty he did to you to prove his worldview correct. He then goes on to make a reference to Pinocchio in which he asks you to cut his strings and make him a “real boy” (an even funnier phrase given that he’s a puppet). But this is also an allusion to Mettaton, as he reveals to you throughout the game that his robot body designed for him by Alphys is a form that makes him feel more like himself because it’s implied that Mettaton is an incorporeal ghost like Napstablook. He then makes one least appeal to Heaven and says he’ll live for himself and his friends, acting as a microcosm of both Mettaton and Flowey’s character arc.

In the “weird route”, Spamton also makes remarks prior to battling him that allude to Mettaton NEO’s fight in the no mercy route: “THANKS TO YOUR [Total Jackass stunts] I HAVE [Becomed] NEO.” “TO [$!$!] ME OVER RIGHT AT THE [Good part]!? WHAT ARE YOU, A [Gameshow Host]!?” “MY ESTEEM CUSTOMER I SEE YOU ARE ATTEMPTING TO DEPLETE MY HP! I'LL ADMIT YOU'VE GOT SOME [Guts] KID! BUT IN A [1 for 1] BATTLE, NEO NEVER LOSES!!! IT'S TIME FOR A LITTLE [Bluelight Specil]. DIDN'T YOU KNOW [Neo] IS FAMOUS FOR ITS HIGH DEFENSE!? NOW... ENJ0Y THE FIR3WORKS, KID!!!” One line in particular references Asriel calling Chara’s name before Frisk lands in the bed of flowers in the Garbage Dump: “YOU MAKE ME [Sick]! MUTTERING YOUR [Lost Friends] NAMES AT THE BOTTOM OF A [Dumpster]! NO ONE'S GONNA HELP YOU!!! GET THAT THROUGH YOUR [Beautiful Head], YOU LITTLE [Worm]!”

This is an even more poignant line, as Spamton resides in Trash Zone, which is meant to resemble the Garbage Dump area of Undertale, which was a point in Waterfall where you were given a hint into the backstory of the game before landing on a bed of flowers. It’s also the area where you encounter Mad Dummy and where Alphys dates Undyne in the true pacifist route. Clearly, the symbolism of taking place in a dump is very important for connecting the worlds and stories of both of these games, given that it’s such an important spot for two major characters tied to Mettaton.

If it weren’t obvious at this point, Spamton damn near confirms that Mettaton was designed at least partially to fulfill the Deltarune prophecy but was unable to because he didn’t possess the same potential or determination that Flowey had due to his lack of relation to the original human and his focus instead turning towards an abstract human audience. The dialogue from Swatch about Spamton being the embodiment of a Lightner’s dream also implies that, keeping in line with the themes of desire in the Dark World, that Mettaton might be directly responsible for the creation of Mettaton. Perhaps this is why the NEO suit so eerily resembles the God of Hyperdeath if it’s directly tied to Mettaton’s desire to fulfill the Deltarune prophecy. If this is the case, isn’t it a bit odd that the God of Hyperdeath is also implied to be Asriel’s creation from flavor text in Kris’s room? What an interesting parallel.

In order to deliver some information to the fandom about an AU I’m working on, I’ve made this post!

It’s quite quickly made, and has very little information, but I strongly hope it will make you interested by my work! (Just a little note before you read: this AU is made to be safe for work, so while it mostly centers around romance, there is no implications of anything not suitable for a general audience, so I would request you do the same when talking about this AU. Thank you!)

So far I mostly have the main idea of the AU… and the beta designs of no one else than Mettaton! (Lmao) Of course nothing is set into stone, even the name could be changed later on if I find something better! You may ask me, what is that AU about exactly? I’ll briefly explain. So, in this Undertale universe, monsters have been losing hope, and the collection of human souls didn’t actually help… the monsters’ feelings were mixed about all of this, and slowly, tension formed between pretty much everyone.

Asgore was desperately trying to find a way to cheer his people up, but nothing seemed to work… until a young woman came to him with a lot, a lot of ideas. She seemed to have solutions to distract the population… exactly what the King needed. So he let her be the royal scientist along with her assistant. Tests with the human souls, extraction of their qualities, see if it could help monsterkind get back their cheer… turns out a terrible accident happened, and their precious "happiness extract" escaped and infiltrated the monsters’ main source of water and food. No body was spared, it even infiltrated the ruins! Instead of calling it a disaster, Asgore saw it as splendid news, a happy accident promising smiles and good relationships for his subjects, and instead announced the leak as good news.

As the bodies absorbed the substance, weird things started to happen. A few years later, as another human fell onto the bed of flowers carpeting the Underground’s entrance, the kingdom was in chaos. Every body was taken by an irresistible impulse to crush romantically over anyone they would have a simple interaction or connection with (excepted children and family members). The human is stuck in this world of chaos, in which everyone either loves each other passionately, or hates their guts. Heartbreaks, fights, jealousy, drama and passion are dripping from everywhere, and pure, platonic friendship seems like a long gone memory, like if it never existed. Adults are convinced a bright future full of romance and sparkles awaits them; however, it seems the human has other plans than falling into their fantasies. Will they be able to convince them there is much more to love than romance? Or will they save their skin to this world doomed to pink chaos?

This too is subject to change later, but I do like it! I have also a lot more to say about it, but for now you only get to have this! (Hehehe)

However, I’ll say that I have applied my personal bias to this AU, so Mettaton has his own role and arch in this AU! (I won’t say more than: 1. the substance took a few months to drain from the water and ground, even though its effects are permanent 2. hmm… do ghosts even have a body to absorb this substance? 👀) Here are some designs I made for him! They are pretty much done, doesn’t mean I won’t edit them later! I have yet to design his EX form with a suit (because of course he will wear one!)! I could make him a NEO form too, even if there is no planned "genocide" route (maybe a neutral if I have motivation).

His design is similar to his canon design, because I don’t think Alphys would’ve make it very different even if she crushes on everyone she meets (don’t worry though, I will NOT erase Alphyne). It just looks a little bit more like the design of a robot made to report about a LOT of drama and gossiping.

Okay… since you’re so great for reading until this point, I’ll give you a piece of information about Mettaton: there will be something major between him and Papyrus, something I’m very excited to tell you about! I just need to flesh things up with Mettaton’s character arch before I tell you! 😊

Justice Alphys AU

I’ve been wanting to rewrite my concept post about this AU/universe alteration since replaying the no mercy run has me wanting to change some details, add things and make it overall more comprehensible to read.

Justice Alphys takes place in an Aborted No Mercy run where the player kills everyone they can up until reaching the Hotland. It takes inspiration from the Queen Alphys ending following the route.

While Undyne hunts down Frisk in Waterfall, Alphys evacuates monsters into the true lab with Mettaton’s help. Seeing how drastic the situation is, Mettaton decides that he wants to do something about it in case something happens to Undyne, and asks Alphys for help. She hesitates at first but together, they plan to equip Mettaton with a powerful weapon and take out the human in one hit. So Alphys rushes to change up his barely-finished EX form into the NEO form, giving him a canon and wings.

As soon as Undyne falls, Mettaton leaves the true lab to confront the human. Alphys keeps watching them from her drone and tries to mentally prepare herself, as another monster she is afraid of loosing stands in the way of Frisk. However, she panics when instead of combing through Hotland to find any monsters still hiding outside, they head straight to the core where Mettaton is waiting. Alphys doesn’t think for long before asking Sans to bring her along to the judgement hall, explaining that she needs to stop the human if they make it past Mettaton. He shows understanding and teleports her and himself to New Home.

Mettaton falls quickly due to him and Alphys neglecting his defenses, Frisk having grown so strong at this point, and him barely knowing how to use the canon, as he wasn’t made to be a killing machine in the first place. After Sans judges the player, he lets them pass and leaves the hall, only for the player to walk into Alphys, waiting at the end of the hallway. She has decided to fight them, not only to avenge all the monsters who have died, not only because she feels like she owes this to Undyne and Mettaton who risked and sacrificed their lives, but because she knew she had the strength to injure and slow down, if not kill them, because she couldn’t let them get away, and because there were no longer any other monsters standing between them and Asgore.

an absolute banger for the girlboss to rule all girlbosses. no criticisms. makes me shiver in fear every time.

2. mettaton ex - death by glamour

the perfect ost for a hip-grinding emo robot with a passion for anything glittery, with just enough undercurrent of “YOU ARE GOING TO DIE”. terrifying and extravagant. what i aspire to be.

3. asgore - bergentruckung + asgore

so many reluctant emotions swirling around in this one. just so tragic and fits him perfectly.

4. undyne the undying - battle against a true hero

more creepily ominous than her neutral theme, less terrifying in a way but reminds me of bells ringing in an empty church.

5. asriel - hopes and dreams (both phases)

not your usual minor key boss ost, but instead filled with shining hope and a hint that just maybe, you can save something else. a jam that makes you cry.

6. sans - megalovania

LOOK,,, i know it’s iconic and yeah i still like it, but i think the others are better. despite that, it’s filled with a sound of chaos befitting the hardest fight of the game.

7. toriel - heartache

ohhh my heart,,, it sounds so disappointed, and it fits with how toriel blames herself for not being able to protect the other fallen humans. none of the characters really want to fight you, and it especially shows here.

8. mettaton neo - power of neo

turns up the glamour and terror factors by 1000, which somehow manages to make them both,,, less effective?? idk but between the short length and the constant high energy, neither emotion is as compelling. still a bop.

9. papyrus - bonetrousle

a light, silly bop that completely fits his character. honestly it just barely edges out number 10, which is…

similar to bonetrousle with its light bounciness, it’s still a bop but not emotionally heavy enough to beat the higher placements.

What is LOVE?

In which a beautiful hypothesis is destroyed by ambiguous and contrary evidence.

LOVE

“LOVE, too, is an acronym. It stands for "Level of Violence." A way of measuring someone's capacity to hurt. The more you kill, the easier it becomes to distance yourself. The more you distance yourself, the less you will hurt. The more easily you can bring yourself to hurt others.

Killing other humans is naturally very difficult. Although the killing is cross-species in Undertale, the fact it’s a person killing other people would (in-universe) make it similar to real-life acts of murder. Judging by the emphasis on “distancing yourself”, LOVE is likely a measure of detachment, estrangement, and distancing. It’s hardening one’s heart to make it easier to keep killing, and to protect oneself from the pain, trauma, and turmoil of inflicting death. Those with a greater (mental) capacity to hurt are probably those with mental “war adaptations���, for killing is indeed easiest when there’s some emotional or mental distance between one’s target and deeds. (e.g., (e.g., “engage the enemy”, not “kill that person”) In other words, those who distance themselves have a greater “capacity to hurt”.

As well-shown in war, there are many methods to “distance” oneself while killing, and there are some parallels between real-life distancing and Undertale. One kind of distancing, emotional distance, removes inhibitions against killing people and lowers the emotional pain of the deed. De-individuation shows the enemy as a faceless mass, devoid of distinct identities: one mows down faceless waves of enemies, not individual people. It is easier to kill "a pig" than "Wilbur the pig", and easier to say "I killed a Froggit" than "I killed Froggit."

Another detachment method is dehumanization (depersonization?): characterizing one’s foes as wild beasts, demons, disease, vermin or other dangerous, loathsome things. In The Human Child’s case, this is especially easy, since their foes are literally monsters. (and at the end of the Genocide Route, Chara talks about "eradicating the enemy", rather than "monsters" or "opposition") In theory, it would also be easy for the non-humans Asgore and Flowey, although the fact they both knew and loved a human would complicate matters.

Discrepancies and Oddities with EXP

“When you have enough EXP, your LOVE increases. What's EXP? It's an acronym. It stands for "execution points." A way of quantifying the pain you have inflicted on others. When you kill someone, your EXP increases.”

The fact EXP stands for “execution points” suggests it’s only possible to get through killing. However, the imprecise phrasing of the rest of the explanation doesn’t suggest EXP can only be gained through killing. If that were the case, it would say something like: “A way of quantifying the pain of the deaths you have inflicted.” Complicating things further, it is possible to kill painlessly. Furthermore, the explanation doesn’t say EXP is the only way to gain LOVE. After all, it doesn't take killing to distance oneself from others, even to the point of wishing them harm (with or without actually hurting them).

If EXP comes from how much pain one inflicts, inflicting more pain would surely yield more EXP. Undyne the Undying, after all, has a truly massive amount of HP, which suggests she can potentially endure massive amounts of pain from damaging her, and she also gives a lot of EXP.

Still, no matter how strong the hit, or how overkill the kill, EXP yield is generally determined by the kind of monster. In a few circumstances, (first Froggit and other Froggits, picking on Loox and not picking on Loox) yields vary within the same kind of monster. Mettaton Neo, though killed in one hit regardless of the route, automatically sets EXP to 50,000 (LVL 19) on the Genocide Route, but yields only 10,000 EXP on a Neutral Route.

Complicating the matter, it’s possible to inflict pain without killing, such as through emotional pain. Although picking on Loox before killing it can increase the EXP yield of 7 up to 22, suggesting emotional pain can count, doing similar actions (such as heckling Snowdrake) doesn’t increase EXP yield.

It might seem as if lower-yield EXPs are less human-like or endearing, given the low-yield Froggit, Whimsun, and Moldsmal and how they can’t even talk. Mettaton EX and NEO, the most humanlike monsters fought, also yield the highest EXP. However, the many exceptions break the hypothesis. (And So Sorry, despite taking so many hits to kill, being pretty human-like in psychology, and clearly being in pain, yields only 1 EXP.)

One might think EXP varies so much as a matter of perception: Frisk’s personal tastes towards each monster cause different EXP yields. However, unlike LOVE, EXP focuses on effects on others: it seems an objective record of how much pain one has inflicted. Only Mettaton Neo and Sans auto-level Frisk to a specific LV upon their deaths. (Sans doesn’t even yield EXP, bizarrely)

Unfortunately, only Frisk gaining LOVE and EXP is covered in precise detail. Flowey and possibly Asgore might have also gained LOVE, but there’s no way to figure out their LOVE or EXP. Flowey’s case is especially tricky. As he was unable to feel love and compassion, he was detached from others even before he started killing. That brings up the question of whether removing someone's ability to feel love and compassion automatically cause them to gain LOVE. What with Frisk being the player character and Undertale being a forgiving sort of game, it's hard to tell whether Frisk's experience is typical for humans slaying monsters.

It’s possible a reasonable, quantified metaphor for detachment upon killing was, by necessity, mixed up with variable video-game mechanics to make for a better playing experience. Although EXP and/or LOVE could logically be gained in non-lethal ways, it is frustratingly unproven.

In the hotlands you'll encounter a few bosses, the most notable of which is mettaton who you'll have to face multiple times in. If you change your armor to something you haven't worn before, you get 1,500 points. To defeat mettaton ex without killing him, one must survive until his arms and legs are blown off and achieve a show rating of 10,000 or more;

Accidentally made a “do not that” meme that still sometimes plagues me to this day ldkfdk A dream-bubble/dead Karkat who’d been murdered in his timeline’s Gamzee’s rampage and only had one eye, he was a biiiig favorite. I loved having enough energy for that all; typing that much shittalk??? Was one of the most fun things I’ve ever done in roleplay, holy shit. Entire fucking PAGES of just these absolutely USELESS rants because that nubby little shit had so much passion for it. Fuck. I loved Karkat. A bloodswapped, cobalt-blooded Karkat who was also post-game for a pre-established timeline where trolls and humans co-existed on the same planet(s). He was a Thief of Blood and a massive asshole; at his worst, he was manipulative, isolative, vengeful, restless… But also, he was a really big dork??? He LOOOOOVED spy movies and probably popped boners regularly for Black Widow and James Bond or the Kingsmen. Fucking nerd. He fancied himself a spy; his best friend was a badass hacker, and they’d (F)LARP together as a stereotypical “you hack, I’ll infiltrate” team. Before Earth, he never cared about Christmas, but one year his richass neighbourhood started putting up flashy decorations and he got jealous, so he stole a shitton of them to make his own house look the best. He’s so… So stupid. I love him so much. And of course, jumping off the Homestuck bandwagon; I have Lv/Hadz! My dorky, sadsack pun machine. A (sort of, mostly) secret post-genocide Sans; the Bad Run™ had been reset after completion, but something went wrong, so he remembers it. Still, he’s been running for like, two years now! So he’s had a lot of time to go and bury all that as deeply as monsterly possible lmaooo. What inspired you to take on your current muse (that you are posting this on): I like… Undertale. And I like Underfell enough that once the idea was presented to me, my mind kinda ran away with it, haha. It started with Hopper, my weird UF Sans! But it feels like every time I approach the AU I have slightly different ideas for it, pfft. I guess with Sixes, I wanted to step away from the skeletons for awhile! I was really excited about messing with Mettaton for it, because I… Really liked listening to the radio for awhile, haha. I thought it’d be kind of cool if instead of being really excited to be seen flaunting himself across a television set, he wasn’t so happy with how he turned out physically, and made his influence a little less directly visible. It fit in well with the seemingly common theme of conflict in Underfell, and things just really exploded from there! It’s hard to summarize in just a few short words. That said, Sixes probably wouldn’t have a blog at all if it wasn’t for tumblr user wibler’s- Sixes’ Sans!- mun coaxing me into giving it a shot! She has a lot of faith in my creative abilities. I dunno what I’d do without her support through the past few years, heheh. She’s neat.

What are your favourite aspects of your current muse: LOUD ANGRY ROBOT LMFAO Shit though, I dunno! I like writing a character who goes through the bipolar disorder motions, the manics and the depressives. I love watching him go hot and cold on characters as he flipflops through his impulses and subsequent regrets. I love that in his timeline, everyone knows him while he himself actually… Hardly knows anyone at all. He’s made himself untrustworthy, and in turn doesn’t trust anyone, either, so he hardly ever opens up beyond… You know. Angry screaming, or shameless flirting and flattery, ignoring personal space bubbles… I love that his Sans being absent kind of smacked him on the nose, because that was someone he was actually making a connection with, but tried to play it off like Sans was just another moment in his life so he kind of treated him like a dick lmao. Deadass knew the poor little dude had anxiety issues and scared him on purpose, made joking death threats, joked about flirting with his shittyass brother… Sixes was such a prick. Fuck. And he realizes that! And after ditching his family just to have a cataclysmic fallout with his other BFF, Alphys, Sans disappearing… It’s something he blames himself for. It kind of sobered him up a little to the way his actions affect people. AND DESPITE EVERYTHING, HE STILL USES HIS CAMERAS (THAT HE STOLE FROM ALPHYS IN A PETTY FIT) SCATTERED ACROSS THE UNDERGROUND AND HIS SHITTY TRAP ROOMS IN HOTLAND TO PUBLICALLY HUMILIATE RANDOM CITIZENS IN A WIPEOUT-ESQUE PODCAST ON THE UNDERNET. At least that assholitude earns him money, though! Fuck. I also reaaallly love how different AUs bring out different aspects of his character, but that’s a rant for another time or place! Hoo. I dunno, man. I could go on about Sixes for like, ever. He’s a really fun muse.

What’s your biggest inspiration when it comes to writing: I’m… I’m not even gonna lie, a lot of it is the positive feedback lmao. I don’t, uh. Do much these days, creatively or recreationally speaking, and I don’t really have a lot of friends IRL… Er, any, actually, if you’re only counting closehand. All my friends live hundreds of miles away, and it sucks. But this is… Simultaneously social and creative. I get to talk to people, and make friends, and toss creativity back and forth with people, and it’s really fulfilling. I love to be a part of other people’s creative processes! I love seeing what other people do with THEIR characters, and when we all??? Interact??? Mother of God, it’s such a treat! Everyone’s so creative and impressive and inspiring… And hearing/seeing us all go back and forth about what we admire in each other… I’m pretty happy with just being a part of writing, and telling other people that I love what they do! But every now and then it comes back around to me in little ways, and it feels really special. It’s hard to imagine anyone liking my stuff past a “they’re pretty cool I guess, yeah” sentiment, despite my glittering impression of a lot of the writers in the community; so when someone DOES say they like my stuff, even just by saying they like a drawing, or like the way I described something, I go OFF THE WALL LMAO. Straight up dissolve and slip through the floorboards a la Gaster style with how lovely it feels. Shucks… And, you know. Watching characters develop in general- whether they be mine or not- is really fulfilling and inspiring. A good cycle.

Favourite types of threads: Anything that feels meaningful! I love it when two characters make any kind of connection, despite the context. That said, typically “angst” and “fluff” style threads are a big favorite, but there has to be, like… you know. Meaning to it. It feels really… I dunno, cardboardy to just throw a muse into a woodchipper for no particular reason just to have them drag themselves to another muse begging for help or to have a chance to explain some kind of deep, edgy feeling or story. Baseless fluff has a lot more wiggle room lmao, but that can get really monotonous really quick if something more significant fails to spark somewhere along the line. Just so long as something’s getting achieved somehow, I guess! If it feels like nothing’s changed between the two at the end of the thread, it feels really unfulfilling and hollow.

Biggest struggle in regards to your current muse: URRRGH. IMPLEMENTING THE RADIO SHOW/PODCAST THING… On one hand, Sixes has kind of collected the idea that the multiverse is a very indifferent place towards the goings-on within his timeline! And, he supposes, that that suits him fine. Hurts his pride a little, but it’s something he’s just going to curl up and lick his wounds for, pfft. But still! I wish I knew how to make it a little more obvious and prominent- The same could go for his growing industry, too! I guess I’ve just been jobless too long to really have a feel for it like I should, oof… Additionally, drawing him is reALLY HARD… He’s in his classic box form most of the time because he’s really insecure about his EX form, and yet I draw his EX form more than anything because the box is frustrating to draw??? And despite it all, I’m still not sure I’m terribly happy with how his EX form looks!!! He’s supposed to be a little closer to a NEO design than initially planned, as Alphys fully intended him to be a KILLING MACHINE from the start without telling him! But he caught on early on, and they kind of bullied each other into compromising a bunch of things until he was just this “hideous” mess that neither of them were terribly happy with… So, you know. The indecision carried over to me too, evidently! Ugh.

HEADCANONS- UNDERTALE LEES

I love reading headcanons so I figured I’d make some of my own, I’m a stickler for detail so I hope y'all enjoy and you should expect a few more after this too 😉

PAPYRUS: The most adorable cutie patootie cinnamon roll ever, a major giggler mixed with loud ‘NYEH HEH HEH’S’ at every conceivable interval! He loves tickle fights especially because he gets to be a little kid in a way and he loves being able to retaliate and make other people laugh more than anything else.

His normal ticklers are Undyne because she loves any opportunity to beat him (and she thinks he’s adorable but she’d never say that), also Sans because he’s the big brother and Papyrus loves having fun with his brother, and sometimes Frisk because they love hearing Papyrus’ laugh and loves spending time with him too. Also, Mettaton takes a chance whenever he can because he simply cannot get enough of darling Papyrus’ laugh and multiple reactions, but Papyrus loves all of it nonetheless because he gets to connect with friends.

His worst spots are his ribs which are always certain to get the giggles bubbling away, his spine is his real bad spot though and never fails to elicit squeals and the odd snort, which everyone else never fails to tease him about. In short he is the adorable lee of the underground 😊

SANS: This guy pretends to be the hard guy, being all suave with his puns and cheeky mischievous nature, however when it comes to tickling he becomes genuine putty in his ler’s hands (literally in their hands 😂). His loud belly laughs and yelps let Sans finally let go of his worries and just laugh freely.

Not many people know of this little weakness but there are a select few, Papyrus for one since he knows practically everything about his brother, and he loves the opportunity to turn the tables on Sans and relishes in the power that most little brothers only dream of; however Papyrus is discreet since Sans never can hide his embarrassment. Toriel knows too, she and Sans are undoubtedly close and she relishes in making him laugh with something other than puns, I’m pretty sure she gets some enjoyment from embarrassing him too! Frisk is the only other person who knows and isn’t the sort of person to take advantage, but if they ever see that Sans is sadder than usual they’ll give him a little cheer up. Which Sans always appreciates.

His bad spots are his ribs which unlock his deep chuckles which quickly morph into strong belly laughs when you reach his ghost-tummy. Light skitterings are all it takes to make him a mess, however when you do relent you better start running because he’ll give you a hell of a bad time in revenge. He’s the revenge taker of the underground 😊

TORIEL: Just need to say first….GOAT MOM IS BEST MOM! Okay, so Toriel is the definition of adorable when it comes to tickles; squirming, giggling and curling up into a cute floof ball make her an immediate target. I mean who could resist that cuteness?!

Literally everyone knows of how sensitive Toriel is but few take advantage because they would always feel bad about taking advantage of her! However that doesn’t stop everyone. Sans is always the first to give her a few pokes if he feels her puns are getting more attention than his 😂 Also, when she gets sad about her past family life Sans will always be there to get her spirits back up, she always appreciates it even if she doesn’t immediately show it. Her only other proper tickler was Asgore, even though it was mainly in the past he always tickled her because he loved seeing her laugh and be happy. Honestly like how a couple really should be, always with care and attention.

Her main tickle spots are her floofy, furry tum tum which gets her giggling and squirming but her death spots are behind her ears and the bases of her horns and i CAn’t eVEN BECAUSE SHE SQUEALS AND BLUSHES SO MUCH IT’S UNBELIEVABLE! In short, Toriel is the most embarrassed ticklee of the underground.

UNDYNE: Whoo boy you have to be one frickin determined cookie to be able to unlock the ticklishness of this fearsome warrior, she’ll deny it everytime but she has her sensitive spots just like everyone else. Her loud boisterous laughter is hilarious to behold 😂

People know about Undyne being ticklish but are always far too intimidated to even try for fear of her strength and her capacity for revenge. There are a few who do though 😉 Tickling Undyne is one of Alphys’ favourite things to do because she’s the only one who ever gets to see her all giggly! They always have tickle fights together and Alphys enjoys getting a little payback now and then because who doesn’t love tickling their bae? Papyrus has tickled her once (by accident in training) but she swore him to ultimate secrecy, with a little persuasion containing a ticklish theme of course 😉

Undyne’s main tickle spots reside at her ear fins where the skin is EXTREMELY sensitive, like legit she will break a freakin window with her screeching holy fuck. Her gills are also pretty sensitive and will make her scrunch up her neck and giggle like a kid it’s so cute! But her death spot is definately her feet and particularly the webbing and this is probably the only thing that would get her begging for mercy….before she abruptly kicks you in the face 😂 Undyne is the most resistant lee of the Underground.

ALPHYS: I can’t even with this smol weeaboo child like talk about a major SQUEEEEEEEEEEE at the very thought of her being tickled holy hell! She gets ever so embarrassed and takes about an hour to recover, like she will legit still be engulfed by a giggle fit for ages! I think she kinda enjoys it too because she likes it when her friends make her laugh and cheer her up when she’s having a bad day.

LITERALLY EVERYONE TICKLES ALPHYS! I swear at one point everyone banded together and agreed to make it a group activity or something 😂 Undyne loves to tickle her because she loves her laugh, Mettaton tickles her because he’s a mischievous little shit and loves making her squirmy and embarrassed. She may not be as close with everyone else but they will always team up and tickle the living daylights out of her in case she’s been working too hard or feeling down. Because every single goddamn being loves her to pieces because it is literally impossible not to 😊

Alphys is a walking tickle spot like poke her anywhere and she’ll jump a mile! Although I have to say that going for her tail will elicit uncontrollable squealing, giggling, blushing and squirming all in the space of a microsecond, like every aspect of her is a bundle or nerves! Seriously if you so much as poke her tail….holy shit she will squeal so hard and her giggles will give you a cuteness induced heart attack, like she literally cannot deal with it! Alphys is the most adorable lee of the Underground.

METTATON: This sexy, fabulous superstar will have you thinking his confidence means he couldn’t possibly be ticklish. Oh darling do I have a surprise for you! It varies between his forms, boxy and NEO aren’t as ticklish and you’d probably only get a few giggles. His EX form however….darlings you are certainly in for a treat 😉

Alphys constantly takes advantage of all his little nerve receptors (that she herself installed might I add) are I swear she gets a kick out of making him squeal! Another few people who like to take advantage include our lil Blooky who enjoys phasing through his cousin’s metal body to send shockwaves and shivers to get him giggling! However our star’s main predator is Papyrus who simply relishes every noise and reaction he can get from his mischievous robot, not that Mettaton really complains about it of course 😂 I personally think Mettaton rather enjoys being made to giggle and laugh, especially with all the teasing people can dish out on him!

When it comes to specific spots the main ones to go for would definately be his black waist, hips and thighs which aren’t made of hard metal, but just a softer material. This makes them perfect for squeezing which will have him bucking and snorting in no time! Also, it wouldn’t do any harm to skitter around his pink soul a little, you’d get the most delicious squeaks and giggles! 😂 Even though he’ll get his revenge on you after, he’ll never really try to stop you and go quiet if you ask him about it….. you can all make of that what you will 😂 Mettaton is the bashful lee of the Underground.

FRISK: AHHHHHHH SMOL INNOCENT CHILD TOO PRECIOUS FOR THIS WORLD!!! Ahem…this adorable ass human’s laughter puts a smile on everyone’s face so tickling Frisk is basically everyone’s favourite hobby. Frisk’s giggles are basically drug-like and people cannot get enought of them, however that puts our lil human in a bit of a situation now and again *cough* all the frickin time *cough*.

This is rather similar to Alphys since EVERYONE TICKLES FRISK!!! Bless this child honestly it must be a curse being that adorable. Papyrus will do it because he loves the scrunchy expressions they make, Sans does it because he’s a cheeky shit and loves making the kid laugh more than anyone else, Mettaton is also a cheeky shit and is always fascinated with the way humans *coughhh* Frisk *splutter* react to everything 😂 Undyne is relentless and insists it’s a type of training to tougher Frisk up (I call BULLSHIT FISH WAIFU), Toriel is motherly and loves seeing Frisk laugh freely, and pretty much the same with Asgore on that front too 😊 Frisk literally generates happiness so no wonder everyone wants to hear that adorable hooman laugh and giggle all day!

Frisk may not be a complete walking tickle spot but that doesn’t mean they’re safe, oh hell no honey! If you so much as brush their neck, shoulder or ribs then they are fucking GONE! Childish squeals and giggles and unrelenting squirming will occur without fail! Their worst spot however….if you so much as think about going for their knees then their determination will go into goddamn override. There must be a hella big buch of nerve endings residing there because even after someone’s relented the twitching and giggling will remain for about half an hour 😂 Arggghhh I am getting nausea from all this fluffy goodness christ help me. Frisk is happiest lee of the Underground.

ASGORE: Oh this adorable goat dad he is just so perfect 👌 Deep chuckles, belly laughs and snorts are your rewards when you get at his majesty and you certainly will not regret it….actually thinking on that you might do, especially if he himself is in a mischievous mood!

Very few people actually know of our King’s little weakness because no-one has ever really gotten close enough to him to find out let alone try, but there are a few exceptions of course 😂 Namely Toriel, I mean c'mon couple tickle fights are inevitable aren’t they! They still do at present since they’re still close friends, that sort of connection doesn’t really go away. Another would be Undyne, she found out in a training session and loves trying to embarrass him with it, she relishes in getting rid of his big, tough kingly act and gets him to loosen up; he’s always grateful for that. Frisk also knows cuz the smol child is always DETERMINED to make everyone happy and they love his deep, chuckly laugh!

His worst spots would certainly be around the base of his horns and around his ears, but make sure you’re careful cuz if you let his head thrash too much he’ll pull a damn muscle! But his kill spot is his floofy tummy! Go to town there while you can because the guffaws, loud laughter and eventual BLEETS won’t last long if he overpowers you. Then yousa better be ready for teasy papa ler! In short though, he’s the hidden lee of the underground.

ASRIEL: SMOL GOAT CHILD WHO NEEDS ALL THE PROTECTION IN THE WORLD TOO CUTE AND HUGGABLE…ahem, well to business. This lil giggly ball of floof will give you endless joy since he’s ticklish EVERYWHERE!!!

His main ticklers are his parents because they’re mainly making up for lost time, and because they love hearing their son’s laugh because who wouldn’t cherish something so pure?! Since Frisk is his hooman bestie they never hesitate to get him if they even sense a frown or drop in his mood, what kind of friend would they be if they didn’t get him giggling and squirming? His last main ler may surprise you, it is in fact sans. Asriel (when he was saved and brought to the surface DON’T QUESTION IT JUST ROLL WITH IT PEOPLE) was always trying too hard, sans forgave him ages ago because he knew he had no real control, and one day he saw Frisk reduce him to a giggled out ball o’ floof. So of course, being the mischievous shit he is, decided to cheer up the kid. It was something they both needed, then Asriel got the message and is a lot better for it (wow rambling soz).

His tickle spots are DEM EARS, DAT TUM, AND DEM HANDS AND FOOTS. He’s so damn giggly and his voice goes up like 3 octaves and then the BLEATING gosh darn, once he starts he can’t stop. He’s especially sensitive to the lightest touches, his feet are by far the worst, particularly the toe pads; his laughter literally goes silent. He’s always way too exhausted and is too kind to ever get anyone back, all in all he’s the lee that needs it the most.

Alphys Meta

Iirc the commonly accepted reason as to why Alphys took so long to finish Mettaton’s body was that because if she did, he’d leave, and some details have me thinking that while this was true, and Mettaton definitely picked up on it, it wasn’t the whole story. First some odd details. This isn’t required for the upcoming theory to work, but it lays a good groundwork for it. Warning: long and image heavy, also blatant metaphysicsery.

This is shortly before Frisk’s soul inverts in orientation, from that of human souls to that of monster ones (as exemplified by Asgore and Toriel’s) and becomes able to shoot bullets. It’s obvious the phone is responsible for this but- Resonating with Mettaton’s presence? What? Okay so the phone is designed to work in the presence of Mettaton, that’s fair.

Or… not? There is no indication the phone is used here. There’s no indication it isn’t, either, but it’s odd that no text or option for it pops up if it is. Frisk’s soul seems to be turned yellow as part of the initiation of the encounter. And yet the phone was definitely doing something last battle. A lot of Alphys’s “rescues” were shams, but it seems to be genuine, like the jetpack. It’s weird. Here’s more weird – it doesn’t happen in the battle with NEO.

(We’re assuming there’s no retroactive change in history between genocide and the other timelines here for the sake of avoiding a headache.)

Dialling back a bit, resonating is mentioned again in Undertale. From the rawr:

These are the only other places resonating is mentioned, and it’s in the context of SOULs. It seems like Alphys’s phone set up a resonance between Frisk and Mettaton’s SOULS, and that later this resonance happened without it’s assistance. A boss battle is supposed to be an exam of everything you’ve learned so far and Undertale’s not one to shy from mixing meta in-universe - for Frisk do these events act as the training wheels for this aspect of the Asriel fight? But that’s getting into conjecture.

The resonance with Mettaton (temporarily) changed the orientation and colour of Frisk’s SOUL. Could it have had a similar effect on Mettaton’s? The NEO form has something that appears to be a SOUL in it, in monster orientation. In the same area on the EX form, it’s in the human orientation. If Alphys built the containers for the six human souls (a big if, as we have no evidence of this) or had access to the requisite knowledge, then it’s highly likely this is Mettaton’s, safely contained.

And then he un-contains it, the numpty, but it can leave that form and survive in open air, just like a human soul can. And while monster battle sprites are monochromised:

It’s pink. (Red + White, but that might be reading too much into it). Not monster-white. There’s an assumption made here – that in NEO form the monster orientation also means monster colour. So a little grain of salt for that particular property is required.

Interestingly, while Frisk’s soul changes back after, this change (of orientation at least) seems to be more lingering for Mettaton. How come? This is the return trip towards the headcanon-country Alphys bit.

These are the blueprints that concern Mettaton, esp considering his presence on them post-pacifist. An injector of some kind lies next to an illustration of a monster soul being being inverted before being placed into a lying form. Alphys is in one person very reminiscent of the multiple times in history that, on discovery of a new wonder-substance, people started using it in absolutely e v e r y t h i n g, it being so new that the dangers haven’t been determined yet (i.e., asbestos, radiation).

I’m not the only person to have thought along these lines.

The blueprint is dusty, meaning she hasn’t touched it in some time. If NEO’s soul is any indication, she never put it into practice.

She was going to inject Determination into Mettaton.

There was nothing to indicate it wasn’t safe. The legend of Asriel absorbing a human soul was well known, and it wasn’t that which killed him by the account – and it was known that monsters that did this became stronger. With what was known at the time, taking the substance that made a human soul strong and using it to make a monster soul strong was a reasonable hypothesis.

ENTRY 3: If only I could make a monster's SOUL last... ENTRY 4: I believe this is what gives their SOULs the strength to persist after death. (…) Let's call this power... "Determination." ENTRY 6: Soon, they'll all turn into dust. But what happens if I inject "determination" into them? If their SOULS persist after they perish, then...

What’s interesting is why she thought injecting determination into a flower might make it a suitable vessel for souls. The entries don’t show her thought process as clearly on this one. ENTRY 7: We'll need a vessel to wield the monster SOULs when the time comes. (…) What about something that's neither human nor monster? ENTRY 8: What happens when something without a SOUL gains the will to live?

Your mad scientist is showing there, Alphys.

ENTRY 10: experiments on the vessel are a failure

This is where the shaky parts of this theory start happening but – I believe she made some connection between Determination and human physicality (or physicality in general) at some point during this process. Judging from NEO, she could have made Mettaton his body just fine without it, so what problem was she trying to solve by involving determination?

They were both fans of humans – making him more human? I think, however, it was about helping him to bond to his body (although it probably wouldn’t have worked if he didn’t already have an attachment). Either way, it doesn’t matter; she was planning it.

ENTRY 11 (in its entirety): now that mettaton's made it big, he never talks to me anymore. ... except to ask when i'm going to finish his body. but i'm afraid if i finish his body, he won't need me anymore... then we'll never be friends ever again. ... not to mention, every time i try to work on it, i just get really sweaty... ENTRY 12 (in its entirety): nothing is happening. i don't know what to do. i'll just keep injecting everything with "determination." i want this to work.

Her procrastination probably saved Mettaton’s life, because…

ENTRY 16: no No NO NO NO NO

If it’s on her workbench when Frisk finds it, that means it was the last thing she was working on before that happened, because after the amalgamation incident, its dust and the dust on the labcoats speak very much to an Alphys that didn’t do much science after (beyond messing around with seagrass).

Both Alphys and Mettaton know about the EX form prior to Frisk’s arrival (which means Alphys did complete it at some point), but Mettaton doesn’t use it, at the very least in public. Why? Stigma against humans? NEO seems to be either a prototype or a hasty upgrade.

Was whatever Alphys planned to inject determination for, the final hurdle? Grain of salt again, because there other possible in character explanations for this.

But it is very in-character for Alphys to promise someone something, only for something to go horribly wrong which makes it impossible, and then for her to lie and avoid telling the promised about it out of fear of what they’d think or do. The still-strained friendship Frisk arrives to see does fit in with something like that happening. Tl;dr; The resonance performed the final step the blueprint depicted. Determination was safely transferred, like it is in a human-monster fusion, and then being the persistent thing it is, stuck around.

But this is just a theory.

[EDIT: Senshi76 just pointed out to me that this may be at least part of why the EX form is so much stronger than NEO, as well as why Mettaton can briefly  rewind time in the EX battle!]
