This ovoid, salt glazed, 2 gallon stoneware crock is from Somerset, Massachusetts. This is the mark of Leonard and Benjamin G. Chace and is one of the marks of the long line of Chace potters in Somerset, Massachusetts from 1847-1882. This has to be among their earliest pieces as the person stamping the letters and punctuation seems like a novice. Also, the form and the early lug handles are similar to stoneware from the 1820s-1830s.
