Haru Haru (svt smau)-eighteen: Girlfriend?
Summary:Â Your friend, Soonyoung confesses to you in some form all the time despite knowing you donât like him like that. But what happens when suddenly someone becomes interested in him and he eventually stops confessing to you?
Pairing:Â Kwon Soonyoung (Hoshi) x Gender Neutral Reader
Genre:Â smau, college au, fluff, angst, and comedy
Word count: 423
Warnings (for the chapter): a nervous tiger?, ultimatums
Rating (for the chapter): PG-13
Soonyoung's POV:
Soonyoung wiped his sweaty hands on his jeans as he approached the boba shop. He was nervous. He had no clue how to ask someone to be his girlfriend. Either way, he was planning to have one by the end of this date. He hoped so anyway.Â
She saw him through the window from the table she was sitting at and waved animatedly. Soonyoung waved back with a shy smile as walked in the shop. Making his way to the table, it looked like she had already gotten his drink along with hers.Â
He sat down across from her and she slid the drink over to him. âYogurt flavored with boba, your usual,â she said, and Soonyoung wondered when she learned what his favorite was. He wasnât all that surprised though, since it seemed she always knew his favorite things. It was very girlfriend-like.
The next few minutes were filled with general conversation between the two of them. If practice was going well and if she passed the math exam she was studying hard for. Soonyoung took a deep breath, about to launch into the big question but his phone let out a text message tone. Your text tone.Â
He thought about ignoring it. He was about to ask another person to be his girlfriend. Another message from you came in and he contemplated. A third message came in and he concluded that he should check his phone. You wouldnât be reaching out to him now and definitely not that many messages within a short amount of time.
âI think I need to check this,â Soonyoung said, pulling his phone out of his pocket and abandoning all thoughts of the previous question he was going to ask.
âOh, okay,â she responded, sounding slightly annoyed.
âOh,â Soonyoung typed and more tones sounded as he received responses. âOH!â His exclamations grew louder. He looked up at the girl and said, âIâm so sorry but I need to go help my friend,â
âIs it Y/N?â She asked. Soonyoung nodded in confirmation. âSoonyoung, if you go to themâŚwe are done. Iâve tried to compete with her in your heart and I just canât.âÂ
He grimaced. While he had every intention of asking her to be his girlfriend and he was trying to get over Y/N, he just hadnât completely yet. Y/N was still his friend and he needed to go to them. âIâm-Iâm sorry,â Soonyoung said, defeated. Then he rushed out of the boba shop to help his friend, leaving the girl by herself.Â

Muscle Panic
By Robin Alex McDonald
Queer theorist Jennifer Doyle suggests that âthinking about sports is like thinking about a novel that has five dimensions. It can be hard to pin down your object. The sport text has watery boundaries: Is it the event? The competition? The broadcast? The arena, fan culture? Training? The match report?â[1] Similarly, thinking about Hazel Meyerâs Muscle Panic is like trying to pin down an immeasurable imagining, one that shape-shifts from idea to archive, from archive to installation, from installation to performance, from performance to print. Each adaptation of Muscle Panic offers new constellations of sport history ephemera, locker room curiosa, and affective objects that reveal the oft-repressed queer and feminist sensibilities of sport cultures: âSport Dykeâ locker labels, a multi-gallon thermos of Lez Hulk Sweat, net-less and bare basketball rims, photographs of women athletes whose tenacity is palpable even on cardstock, a shiny silver whistle around which countless lips have closed. Doyle claims that the athleteâs sense of self is âfluid, changeable, contingent,â but Muscle Panic expands on this to show that the material cultures that constitute the athleteâs world are fluid, too.[2] Their archives take on new shapes and new forms, depending on where and how they are being housed (a gym locker, a storage room, a hall of fame, a gallery) and what their caretaker deems meaningful.
Past iterations of Muscle Panic crescendoed in multi-participant performances that relished the rigor of athletic rituals and the sweet idiosyncrasies of women and queer people occupying space together. In them, Meyer and her team of performers donned handmade jerseys, stretched one anotherâs bodies, passed basketballs back and forth (and back and forth, and back and forth) between them, inhaled the odour of their own and each othersâ armpits, tied their long hair back into sport-ready ponytails, double-knotted each otherâs shoelaces. Within the homosocial world of sport, in which teams are segregated by sex and the existence of queer touches, looks, and desires are actively denied, these types of interactions are mostly dismissed as teammate comradery or game-time rituals. In the constructed world of Muscle Panicâs performance, however, these interactions both educe and exceed the intimacies of sex â sweaty touches, heavy breathing, furtive eye contact, giggly asides â and thus speak aloud what Heidi Eng has called the âsilences underlying and permeating discourses of normalityâ within the world of sport.[3]
Named after the sociological concept of moral panic, a fear of something dangerous and threatening to âdiscourses of normalityâ as well as the status quo of the social order, Muscle Panic uses touch and sweat to terrorize the gender binary and its attendant presumption of heterosexuality on which most sports rely. Now, in a world where touching, sweating, and breathing together have become dangerous in altogether new ways, Meyer has been tasked with translating the collaborative and spontaneous spirit of performance into another, safer format. For the 2020 version of Muscle Panic, Meyer has solicited five women and/or non-binary athletes to create a collaborative print project that draws from the codes and aesthetics of instructional exercise posters. Such a poster project recalls elementary school gymnasium dĂŠcor, but it also recalls the safer sex cartoons and information pamphlets created during the AIDS crisis of the 1980s by organizations like the Gay Menâs Health Crisis and the National Coalition of Gay Sexually Transmitted Disease Services, wherein communities disproportionately affected by the epidemic sought to communicate information and care using their own languages and signs.  Renowned art historian and political activist Douglas Crimp discussed these instructional comics in his 1987 essay, âHow to Have Promiscuity in an Epidemic,â where he referred to community-created materials as âprecisely the sort of safe sex education material that has proven to work.â[4] While there are obvious differences between teaching someone how to properly put on a condom and instructing them how to perform the perfect jump shot, there are similarities as well: a flicking motion of the wrist, the need to be gentle yet shrewd, the importance of practice and the risks that sloppiness carries. Both tasks demand focused attention on the body and are usually done in the presence of another body. And if the instructional posters of the 1980s helped gay men to have promiscuity in an epidemic, perhaps this instructional poster can teach its audiences how to create new intimacies in a pandemic by reminding us that the queer desires that exist in sport â the desire to touch, to be playful, to work together in new ways â have not gone away.
Meyer has stated that Muscle Panic is about the need for womenâs bodies, queer bodies, and sick bodies to âtake up spaceâ on the field, on the court, in the locker rooms, and in the gallery.[5] Now, in the absence of these bodies, we instead have Muscle Panicâs stuff: scaffolding that stands strong like skeletons, pompoms that caress like fingers, the pebbled texture of basketballs like our craggy skin. If, as queer affect scholar Ann Cvetkovich suggests, âobjects are meaningful as expressions of desire,â[6] we might think of the objects that make up Muscle Panic as âtestimon[ies] to social relationsâ between an imagined team of women, femmes, queers, crips, and others whose bodies and identities have been, and continue to be, marginalized within sport cultures.[7] Like that stink of sweat that cannot be evicted from a gametime jersey, these relations endure â their affects linger, their politics persist.

Bleach, From Pilot to Ch. 423: Things I Forgot Or Were Excluded From The Anime
Turns out I had forgotten a lot of things tho they might not seem that important. Anyway, the list is long so Iâll keep it under the cut. Itâs a bit messy but I was just writing it as I was reading and then I somehow expected myself to remember what I was talking about. Posting it for anybody else who could use the reminder.
Please keep in mind that Iâm pretty sure the translation I was reading wasnât a 100% correct but I couldnât be bothered to find a better one. Seems like it improved later on but Iâd still take it with a grain of salt. (Like Iâm pretty sure this translator couldnât read hiragana properly, and some names were really messed up.)
- I did not know there was a pilot chapter so yeah... that entire thing I guess. - Orihime being that open about her crush from the beginning - Orihimeâs parents being such cruel people - Orihimeâs hairpins being a gift from Sora - The backstory of the mod souls - Chadâs crazy about cute things - Keigo is from Naruki City, not Karakura - Mizuiro being really popular with girls - Renji and Byakuya with weird hoods, idk if that was part of the anime and so far thereâs been a part from the anime that wasnât in the manga (The part with Ichigo seeing Rukia fight a hollow in town before she comes into his room) - Orihime is bad with electronics - Ishida is poor - Tatsuki told Orihime that she is probably at the level of a black belt in karate (I donât know if she was honest about that but she said it) - Orihime is really dang smart - I forgot Nemu was technically Mayuriâs daughter -Also Mayuri is awful, he belongs in worst dad club with Isshin (I also didnât remember Isshin being SUCH a creep but I guess I forgot to write that earlier. Or I just decided not to since reviewing this list afterwards I realize I left some other creepy things out.) - Mayuri can turn into liquid - Zanpakutou Materializing Dolls, and other artefacts. So many artefacts. Never to be mentioned or used ever again. - Kira feeling super guilty over raising a sword at Hinamori. - Orihime just chilling with Yachiru, Ikkaku, and Yumichika after the was separated from Uryuu. Oh and Zarakiâs there too. - Hisagi having been accepted as a shinigami before he passed the exams, expected to become a seated officer - Rukia idolised Kaienâs wife - That Komamura was that loyal to Yamamoto - I remember Kenpachi fighting Komamura and Tousen, not picking a fight with Komamura, Tousen, Iba, and Hisagi. Neither did I remember Ikkaku and Yumichika joining in, itâs just entirely gone from my memory - Byakuyaâs scarf is a really expensive heirloom. - Byakuya was really cold in the beginning, supposedly not caring about his subordinates (idk if he really changed later on but this stood out to me in the moment. Also speaking of Byakuya, I think he seemed older to me when watching the anime because of the voice.) - Really I had forgotten a lot about the animosity between Byakuya and Renji - Rukia doesnât refer to Gin as âCaptain Ichimaruâ and he doesnât mind since theyâve âknown eachother for so longâ. Apparently sheâs deathly afraid of him. - Kaname got his zanpakutou from the grave of the lady he liked? Iâve always wondered how people get their zanpakutous anyway âcause I donât think Zaraki had any training and Iâm pretty sure itâs the same sword he had when he met Yachiru, yet Zangetsu comments on how the sword is crying. (Iâm also curious about if people could potentially wield other zanpakutous, which I think is a thing in the quincy arc but Iâm talking like... normal people. I think itâd be neat since thereâs already two people that have just... picked up a zanpakutou before they even became shinigamis.) - Rikichi! Heâs such a big fan of Renji! He got Hanatarou out of jail just to help Renji. He didnât only get him a new uniform but also a hair tie and a bandana. Iâm a little sad that he never seems to show up ever again? (At least I donât remember him being in the quincy arc but thatâll have to be itâs own list I guess) - Ukitake and Kyouraku stopping and destroying Soukyoku - Kiyone calling Isane sister. - Soifon getting ready to take out Kiyone and the other vice-captain. - Kyouraku being praised for being the best at seeing the true character of anyone he meets, and Ukitake always being the centre of a crowd although (frail, but affable and kind) - Yamamoto thinking of Ukitake and Kyouraku as sons - Katen Kyoukotsu and Sogyo no Kotowari are the only zanpakutous that exist in pairs (allegedly) (I donât remember why I wrote allegedly but I had some thought behind it......) - Soi Fongâs name was Shaolin Fong until she inherited her grandmotherâs code name. - Soi Fong not being angry with Yoruichi because she ran away, but because she didnât take her with her - Iba having been part of the 11th division, but becoming Komamuraâs vice-captain (supposedly for his mom) - Iba wanting to get a chance to fight Ichigo - Byakuya only showing Senkei Senbonzakura Kageyoshi to people he wants to kill personally, Ichigo being the second person. I canât recall if the first person was ever revealed? - Kira going along with the scheme and leading away Hitsugaya and Matsumoto from the Central 46 chambers. He was told they wouldnât do anything to Hinamori - Hinamori joined the Gotei 13 because she admired Aizen, which would imply she met him before the soul burial training accident, but idk if thatâs a translation mistake - Unohana confronting Aizen in the Central 46 chambers and calling him a treacherous reprobate - How Kyoka Suigetsu works. I forgot that for it to work on someone they need to see the release, and that after that the person who saw it will be completely hypnotised every time he releases it from then on. - Aizen was certain that he could use all three of Kira, Hinamori, and Renji back when they first met, but Renji was problematic so he was sent on to squad 11 while Kira and Hinamori were made Aizen and Ginâs vice-captains - Ichigo and Renji trying to fight Aizen together - Ichigo being a fucking monster! Who stays conscious after having their stomach cut open like that? In the anime it was just a really bad slash but since the manga is a but more graphic Iâm only now like âoh wow that is really fucking badâ - There were names for the four basic types of combat for shinigamis. Zanjutsu(sword skills), Hakuda(hand-to-hand combat), Hohou(foot work), and Kidou. - Hollowfication is brought up this early, but I guess it makes sense because heâs explaining the Hougyoku. - Urahara, not Aizen, hid the Hougyoku inside Rukia. - Urahara was exiled for creating an intractable gigai? I donât think so Aizen, but okay. Also he was trying to turn Rukia into a human soul. Hm. - Komamura coming in to destroy Aizen mid-monologue. Thank you. (After reading Ichigoâs last fight with Aizen I am so tired of him talking aaahhhhh!) - All the gate guardians except for Jidanbou are traitors, Kuukaku shows up with Jidanbou (was this in the anime???) - I remember Ichigo hanging out with squad 11 after the whole Aizen thing, but I did not remember Iba being there too which is nice. They didnât get to spar tho. - Matsumoto and Kira getting drunk and venting about Gin, though itâs portrayed pretty comically. Matsumoto proceeds to invite pretty much anyone who passes by, except for Kyouraku. - Ryuuken is part of the shitty dad club. - Shinigami Isshin was revealed pretty much right after Shinji, I didnât remember it being so early. - Also I didnât remember the protection charm either but hey it worked. - Did- Did Orihime really only get to use Tsubaki ONCE?? - Also that entire fight with Yammy and Ulquiorra is just so much bloodier than in the anime - That moment when Ichigo tells Chad to leave D.Roy to him and Chad runs away, that hurt, ow my heart - Keigo being there to watch Ikkaku fight Eduardo. Also Keigo having a chat with Yumichika. - Ikkaku losing his molars in the fight with Eduardo is. - Yumichika going âoh and btw, make preparations for Ikkakuâs funeralâ - Flashback about Ikkaku fighting Zaraki in the past. - Ikkaku being determined to fight and die under Kenpachiâs command. - Ururu kicking Ilfordt in the face- I mean Ururu going in to exterminate Ilfordt. - References to Toshirouâs bankai being incomplete. - Shawlong being the first arrancar to be created. (Allegedly? Supposedly? Succesfully? It depends on a lot, itâs a bit of an assumption.) - The power limit that is placed on captains and vice-captains when they go to the world of the living is symbolised by the divisionâs symbol. Oh and it takes away 80% of their power. Motherfucking damn bitch Ikkaku. Also good job Rukia. (I donât remember what these last two sentences are refering to tbh) - Tatsuki watching the fight (Iâm assuming the first) between Ichigo and Grimmjow, or at least part of it. - I guess I forgot to mention this earlier but Orihime being jealous of Rukia and her relationship with Ichigo - Tousen really not liking Grimmjow because he causes discord - Ichigo trying the beat the answers out of the Vaizards. - Goddamn Ichigo has a lot of attitude. - Urahara telling Orihime that she would be a burden in battle and Rukia talking to her afterwards. Orihime and Rukia need more talks. - Orihime getting kidnapped by Hiyori. - Hachi having similar abilities as Orihime. - Hachi also suggesting against Orihime fighting the war. - Orihime being so determined to fight. Goddamn I wish Tsubaki wasnât her only way of doing damage. Give her one of those funky artefacts for fuckâs sake. - Yumichika not getting along with âFujikujakuâ. - The trees in Hueco Mundo are made of something quartz-like - Ulquiorra complimenting Orihime on her looks (Tbh Iâve forgotten about this scene again but I donât think I intended to lie to my future self so Iâm assuming it mightâve been something vague) - Orihime planning to reject the Hougyouku with her powers to destroy it, why donât I see more about that?? - Wonderweiss being fond of Tousen. - Szayel sending out the execution squad after Dordoni - Only Grimmjow ever uses Gran Rey Cero (Idk if I ever really thought otherwise but itâs on the list so I guess itâs a confirmation I wanted to make) - Tesla threatening to destroy the Shun Shun Rikka - Nnoitra using Nel as a shield when Ichigo attacks at one point - Nnoitra and Neliel didnât even fight after he tore off Dondochakka and Pescheâs masks in the flashback wtf. Now that I think of it, Iâve never seen manga screenshots of that part so I guess itâs only in the anime. Well thatâs disappointing. Then what did Szayel even do? (Still sad they donât fight more in the manga, bluh. Also Iâm still not sure what Szayel actually did.) - Nnoitra thinking it a shame that they (him and Neliel I think) wonât get to fight again. - Mayuri observing Uryuu through bacteria, and Uryuu calling him out for violating human rights - Szayel rebirthing himself from Nemu, wtf. Iâm not sure if that was in the anime. (Okay it was, she just didnât get straight-up pregnant) - I also forgot about Szayel taking over Konjiki Ashisogi Jizou - The Jesus Szayel and Baphomet Mayuri chapter pages were new to me - Mayuri to Nemu: âGood job, keep suffocating Uryuu with your tiddies. If he dies, he dies.â - Nnoitra, after releasing Santa Teresa: âKinda sexy, isnât it?â (I donât trust this translation a 100% but what was written was âI look sexy, right?â) - And Zaraki responding with âyour reiatsu is making me hardâŚâ - The Living World as seen through the Garganta in Las Noches is upside-down - Hikifune and the Royal Guard being mentioned during Turn Back The Pendulum - Hiyori looking up to Hikifune as a mother - Urahara being Commander of the Detention Unit in the 2nd Division, and the unit keeping people who wanted to withdraw from the Gotei 13, not just criminals. - Urahara making Mayuri his Vice Captain in the research institute - Barraganâs fraccions having packed together his throne and brought it with them - I canât believe Charlotteâs magical girl scene was only in the anime but I suppose it makes sense - Hisagiâs fight with Findor  was also shorter in the manga which is⌠kind of a shame? Idk it was pretty well made in the anime, but I guess itâs because they were just coming back from a break and all. - Hisagi and Kira stopping Yumichika from rushing in after Ikkaku was beaten, Komamura stepping in to take care of the arrancar⌠whose name Iâve already forgotten once again. - Iba calling Ikkaku out for not using his bankai and punching him in the face. Good. I like Ikkaku but the pillar did get destroyed because of him so it was a pretty bad move. - Hinamori making a kidou net - Kira used to be in the 4th division, did I already write that? - The Gran Rey Cero being forbidden to use inside of Las Noches but leave it to Grimmjow not to care about any of that - Kyouka Suigetsuâs ability can be cancelled by grabbing the blade. - They sent Aizen to Avici, or I guess a prison named after Avici - Yamamoto scolding Byakuya, Shunsui, and Kenpachi for losing their captainâs haori and they proceed to insult it - They actually mention Mayuri going back to Hueco Mundo
#bleach#long post#i've been sick for a few days so i had time to wrap this up since i'm just stuck in bed anyway

Womenâs World Cup: England captain Steph Houghton is ready for victory
When Steph Houghton leads the England team against Scotland on June 9 in the 2019 World Cup, she will not only be doing so as captain of the national team, but as a trailblazer, for she has been instrumental in putting both women's football and sports on the map.
Her towering presence in the back four and leadership on and off the pitch has not just inspired the team but a legion of fans both at home and away .
Having represented her country more than 100 times, and captaining Manchester City, Houghton has become an icon for a new generation of women looking to break into the world of women's football.
In the run up to the 2019 Women's World Cup, here is everything you need to know about the England captain
Growing up
Born on April 23, 1988 in South Hetton , Durham, Houghton's interest in football was immediate. She started kicking a ball around with her dad, who played semi-professionally, when she was four. She played for her school, and her performances attracted interest from Sunderland Ladies.
Growing up in a family who were such ardent Sunderland and football fans, their passion influenced even the color of their car, ed. Or at least it would have been Houghton's mum not intervened and insisted on sky blue.
And so it was her dad, in a sky blue Peugeot 306, who would ferry a teenage Houghton to and from Sunderland Ladies. To get to that stage, Houghton proved her footballing skills in her back garden, on the streets and on the school playgrounds, playing alongside both boys and girls in her class.
Houghton, right, started kicking a ball around with her dad, who played semi-professionally, when she was four. She played for her school, and her performances attracted interest from Sunderland Ladies.
"Playing with the boys made me a better footballer, it made me more competitive and made me want to win even more. You were playing against the boys and wanted to prove how good you were, "she told BBC .
What sticks with Houghton about that period in her life, how much the sport has changed since then.
In a recent interview with the Mail On Sunday Houghton remarked how, growing up, female footballers had to pay-to-play and the Sunderland Women team's subs were ÂŁ 250 a year.
However, now, as captain of Manchester City, she sees up-and-coming female footballers wearing their own kits â not the hand-me-downs she had â and not having to worry about ending games early because they couldn't afford to pay for floodlights.
'If we, as a group, can change people's view from thinking they're watching football as opposed to women's football, then I think we've been successful,' she told FIFA in 2011.
Houghton stayed with Sunderland until 2007, when she joined Leeds United Ladies â the same year she made the England senior team debut, coming on as a sub against Russia in March
In a recent interview with the Mail On Sunday, Houghton remarked how much women's football has evolved since her childhood
Houghton stayed with Sunderland until 2007, when she joined Leeds United Ladies. That was the same year she made the England senior team debut, coming on as a sub against Russia in March. The first start came three days later.
However, injury horrors would torment Houghton for the next two years. Having made the squad for the 2007 World Cup in China, Houghton was just days away from being the youngest ever England player at the tournament.
Just 48 hours before she was meant to board the flight for China, she broke put it down. "A freak training ground accident" she describes it.
It wasn't a badly-timed tackle that did it, but hurdles. She was jumping over them when she tripped and twisted her ankle, which in a spiral fracture. England made it to the quarter-finals, where they lost 3-0 to Germany.
She was picking up steam again ahead of the 2009 UEFA Women's Euro tournament, even being named the 2008 FA Women's Young Player of the Year, when tragedy struck again. While playing for Leeds, Houghton ruptured the ACL, ruling her out for nine months, heartbreakingly, for the tournament.
"I don't think I can actually put how I was feeling into words," she told FIFA.com.
"These are the tournaments that every footballer wants to play. I knew I just had to get myself back on track and start playing football again. "
The journey to captain
Get back on track she did. In 2010, having won the 2010 FA Women's Premier League Cup with Leeds, Houghton then signed for Arsenal Ladies in August. The club became the dominant force in the newly-formed Women's Super League.
With Arsenal, Houghton won the League title, the FA Women's Cup and the WSL Continental Cup, captaining the side to the latter two.
In 2010, having won the 2010 FA Women's Premier League Cup with Leeds, Houghton then signed for Arsenal Ladies in August
"I wanted to win trophies and no other side was winning more than Arsenal at the time," she told BBC
At that point that drive to win didn't translate for Houghton on the international stage. But she was getting close.
Although the 2011 World Cup didn't go as planned for England, with the team crashing out in the quarter-finals, skip to 2012, and Houghton scores the winning goal against Brazil in the final group game of the London Olympics in front of 70,000 fans.
Two years later, then head coach Mark Sampson hands Houghton the captaincy. "The conversation was a bit of a blur," she told BBC. "I was pulled aside and asked if I wanted to be captain, and I couldn't stop smiling, I said:" Of course. "
Houghton quickly realized the heavy burden the captaincy brings with it.
'For the first six or seven months, I tried to be someone that I wasn't. I tried to be everybody's mate. I tried to please everyone. But if you get a bit older, you realize that's nigh on impossible.
"I got back to basics and realized I had to earn the right to get a starting spot to be captain and from there it was about how I could develop as a leader," she said in the Mail on Sunday interview.
Houghton scored the winning goal in the group stages against Brazil during the 2012 London Olympics, but England went on to lose to Canada in the quarter-finals
The impact was almost immediate. In 2015, Houghton, now a WSL Manchester City Continental Cup winner with new team, captained the England side not only into the semi-finals of the 2015 World Cup in Canada â losing 2-1 to runners-up Japan â but also into the nation's hearts and minds; incredibly apposite when you consider the team's slogan for the tournament was "Inspire a Generation."
Two years later and another semi-final milestone at the UEFA Women's Euro, and even Houghton begins to notice a changing perception about and awareness of the team.
"There is a greater expectation on England to perform in major tournaments," she said in an interview with FIFA .
Houghton and the team certainly lived up to it in 2019, when she captained the England team to glory in the SheBelieves Cup, beating Brazil and avenging the 2015 semi-final defeat by crushing Japan 3-0. This year, she is also the lead of the Women's FA Cup.
Houghton has seen a great success with her club, Manchester City Women, winning the Women's FA Cup in 2019
But does she have what it takes to lead the lionesses to victory on the world stage? Englandâs group at the 2019 World Cup includes Scotland, Argentina and Japan â three strong teams and no easy feat. Odds for Houghton to lead the team all the way are currently at 7/1 so the pressure is on.
"We've got to go and try to enjoy that expectation, that pressure. We've got ourselves in a great position where we're fit, we like to play football, we're getting better with each game that we're playing under the new manager, and we're enjoying the challenge every single day to try and hopefully bring England back a World Cup, "Houghton said.
Off the pitch
There were doubts about whether Houghton would make this year's World Cup â but this time, it was not an injury or a fitness issue but a personal shockwave.
In September 2017, Houghton became engaged to former Liverpool, Bradford City and Bolton player Stephen Darby.
They married in June 2018. However, in September 2018, Darby, then aged 29, announced his immediate retirement from football, revealing his leg diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, for which there is no known cure.
Houghton eats, breathes and sleeps football, so much so off the pitch, she is married to former Liverpool, Bradford City and Bolton player Stephen Darby.
In September 2018, just three months after their wedding, Darby announced his immediate retirement from football, revealing that he's been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease
Houghton did not discuss this tragic turn of events until recently, instead focusing on her husband and football away from the media spotlight.
'It's obviously a really, really tough year on a personal level, but I can be honest and say I'm sitting here in Engla nd colors and I am really focused on England. Of course Stephen's my number one priority and he will always be, "she told the Mail on Sunday.
" He's been an unbelievable person in the way he's been dealing with it. He has been everything I knew he would be. He really motivates me to be the best person I can be the ultimate thing for me to make him proud, "she added.
When asked whether the husband's diagnosis has been made consider stepping away from the game for a time â something which manager Phil Neville said she can do if she decides it's the right thing â Houghton says that's not something she or Stephen wants.
'I'm here because I feel I'm right to be here, "she says. 'And it's driven by Stephen. He wants me to go. He says, "Get out of the house."
"He's the ultimate inspiration for me and my family and he's been so strong. My focus is the World Cup now and fingers crossed it never, ever gets to the moment where I have to step away. If I'm selected, he'll come to the tournament. He comes everywhere now. "

Genre:Â smau, college au, fluff, angst, and comedy
Word count: 423
Warnings (for the chapter): mentions of a car accident (nothing to serious, soonyoung is a simp
Rating (for the chapter): PG-13
You sighed as you sat on the curb, watching the tow truck hook itself up to your now totaled car. Everything seemed to be going wrong lately. You were lucky it was only a pole that you hit and not another car, but you hit it just right to damage your own in the worst way.Â
You didnât even know how it happened except that you knew you werenât fully paying attention. You were so deep inside your own head that you were just driving on autopilot. And to make matters worse, the only person you could reach out to for help was the one you wanted to the least.Â
âY/N!â You looked up to find Soonyoung jogging toward you and bringing you out of your thoughts.Â
âYou got here quick,â you called back.Â
âI was out and nearby,â he said, not mentioning his date at all. He stopped in front of you and glanced at your car on the tow truck. âWhat happened? Are you hurt anywhere?â he asked, concerned.Â
At that moment, it was like you never took a break from being friends and you couldnât hold back the sob that had been lodged in your throat. Tears welled in your eyes, alarming Soonyoung even more. He just sat down on the curb next to you and pulled you into a hug as your sobs and tears finally bubbled over, gently rubbing your back while you cried.
You were like that for several minutes before your sobs subsided. âIâm sorry,â you said, pulling away a bit awkwardly and wiping the moisture from your cheeks.Â
âItâs okay, but please tell me, are you hurt anywhere? Do we need to go to the hospital?â He asked once more.Â
Now, you couldnât help but let out a wry laugh. âNo, Soonyoung. Iâm okay. Nothing hurt but my car and my pride.â
He let out a relieved breath but still asked, âAre you sure?â His eyes did a once over of your form, confirming for himself that you truly werenât hurt. âOkay, well letâs get you home then. Iâm sure Jeonghan must be worried.âÂ
You let him pull you up from the curb and toward where he parked in the lot across the street, not bothering to mention that Jeonghan (or your other two friends) didnât even know about your accident. Things were complicated enough as it was and at this point, you were just happy Soonyoung was able to come to your rescue. You would deal with the aftermath of it all later.

After the cup final Iâll become a pastor, says Watford keeper Gomes
The days are ticking by and Heurelho Gomes has heard nothing.
& # 39; There are 11 of them making plans & # 39 ;, he says Sportsmail . & # 39; That's six brothers and four sisters. My mother, she's coming too. & # 39; They fly out of here Brazil . The only one who is not one of my brothers. I can't make it but the rest is coming. They all expect me to play. Me? I don't expect anything, my friend. & # 39;
I'm cool with that when Ben Foster plays This is a team
With that comes the warm smile of a warm man whose life is a goalkeeper is & # 39; 99 percent & # 39; who certainly ends with Saturday's FA Cup final, whether he gets the concert or not
What the 38-year-old has planned for his second life will just so interesting, and possibly even more so, but first Gomes must complete the countdown.
The uncertainty of whether he will start for Watford against Manchester City in Wembley, just as he started the previous five rounds , or that Javi Gracia will play with Ben Foster, who plays every minute of every game played Premier League game
The first is the first choice, the other is the romantic choice, even if we know that the capabilities, reliability and dynamics of the modern Gomes team make it more than that. he says that Gomes must start, and most neutrals with a beating heart want the same thing, just like a big chunk of Watford fans for their first final in 35 years â but then there is Gomes itself.
<img id = "i-2a604b4305410b17" src = "https://dailym.ai/2YxmsmQ Gomes_has_started_previous_five_rounds_in_the_cup_but_admits_he_-a-9_1558034731529.jpg "height =" 520 "width =" 634 "alt =" Gomes started the last five laps in the cup, but admits he doesn't mind if he misses "
Gomes started in the cup last five years but admits he doesn't mind if he misses
& People may not really believe it, but when Ben plays, ben I 100% agree with this & # 39 ;, he says. . No one told me who it is. I will probably discover it on the morning of the game and I will be cool anyway.
& # 39; People will think I'm just saying this but no. This is a team. I'm part of it, but it's not me. My contract does not state that I have to play the final or every match.
& # 39; If it is my job to play in this final, I will be prepared. If my job is to play, I am still willing to play and I will do everything I can to help Ben. That may sound like something that people don't believe, but please, believe me, that's the complete truth. My joy is the joy of the team. I want to help in every way possible. "
He's such a man. Helping is what Gomes does. Always did. In the basic sense, and in the use of football, that meant that Cruzeiro in 2003 helped to create a competition and to double the cup in Brazil and to help PSV Eindhoven with four consecutive Eredivisie titles between 2005 and 2008.
In a deeper form of the term, help what has been done in the 11 years in England when I have not been

It is fairly well known that the great friendly giant from Brazil has been a single welcome committee and adaptation agency for newcomers from South America to his Premier League clubs
One story is that when Sandro was left out of the Tottenham team of Harry Redknapp for a European championship after switching from Corinthians, the message didn't get through the language barrier and the midfielder appeared in Stansted Airport way.
Then it was Gomes who took Sandro under his wing, translated messages from Redknapp and invited the younger player to his house for barbecues and tastes from home.
Even when Richarlison showed up at Watford of Fluminense in 2017.
& # 39; I used to train in winter in shorts and slippers, very cold & # 39 ;, says Gomes. & # 39; I took him to London so that he could buy warmer clothes. & # 39;
He adds: & # 39; It is important to understand that this culture is very different here for South America. They need help, especially younger players. Clubs need to know this.
& # 39; Even if the players are OK on the field, they need someone outside the field to hug them, to help them.
The intriguing next phase of Gomes' life will play the theme, although it was still quite striking to hear him say that I recently intend to be both an agent and a predecessor when he stops play.
The start of those careers depends on discussions after the season with Watford. Gomes says that Watford is the only club he will play for at this stage, so Grace wants to keep him for another season.

Still Gomes claims that it & # 39; very likely & # 39; is that he is retiring â and that increases the possibility of an impending trip to a few worlds that do not often meet. an evangelical who worships in the Christian Community of London, says: & # 39; Some agents are very good and some are not. I'm going to do the things that are good and good in God's eyes. I know what player clubs in Europe are looking for and how I can help.
& # 39; As a pastor, it is something more recent in my heart. I received a phone call from God and this is getting stronger in my heart. God will tell me where I have to go to do it, probably in Brazil, because I want to be home again, but I also want to be everywhere in the world. I want to help people.
& # 39; When God puts something in your heart, as I have been with this, it is because the time is coming. It is the right time to do this. Religion has always been important to me, in my heart, in my life, but it has never been in my mind as it is right now. I know this is what I want to do for the next part. & # 39;

Gomes reflects on the previous & # 39; bit & # 39; and a career that he expects to end in the next 48 hours. his first professional game, 19 because he switched from an attacker to a goalkeeper and a few years ago because as a teenager he was sitting under a tree with his mother and said he would one day earn enough money to buy her a new house.

Gomes spent six years with Tottenham and thinks he never played to the club's ability at Tottenham and thinks he never played to his capacity for the club
Before excelling over five seasons in Watford, Gomes had three good seasons in Tottenham and three seasons of going almost unused.
He produced a number of exceptional performances in that first half and had liked, but there were just a few too many errors that caught your eye.
& # 39; Sometimes it's good not to know the language if you have a ew land starts & # 39 ;, he says.
The line is delivered with a smile, but it was difficult in those early years in London and, more generally, when Genter is asked for regret in his career, he says: & I think # 39; not that I played at my level at Spurs. I had some really good games, but the average level was not what I wanted. It is something that I asked myself "why" in a long time.
It is mildly amusing in the light of Tottenham's last day standing Champions League finalists who remember being told by a member of their team to play
& # 39; said in interviews that I want to win trophies, but the staff says I need to calm down, that the club is only growing & he says. . & # 39; It was a very good club then and look at them now.

He left in 2002 to Watford after he rejected a new contract as a back-up keeper and what happened, is the miraculous revival of the late career, with a promotion of the championship in 2015, a player of the year Gong in 2016 and a consistent demonstration of its best form.
He has been constantly present through seven management changes and an excellent goalkeeper, one of their best signings in recent seasons.
His role has been degraded since Foste r arrived last summer, but there is no trace of a grumble. Club staff talk about a player who has trained hard, has taken his chance with four clean sheets in seven matches over the cups and is consistently supported by Foster.
That is not always easy to take from the half house of his
In most cases, that role is not much for a pushing player 40, but for Gomes it might still be a of all of them â Timely big goodbye.
