GUYS.
GUYS PLEASE.
LISTEN.
I adore this trailer with my heart and soul. I have rewatched it so many times over already. I've stayed long enough to stare intently at the credits at the very end of the video! I NEVER STARE INTENTLY AT THE CREDITS!!
This animation means so much to me, as someone who's been a fan of Life Mission for... A while. That kind of feeling probably isn't anything new, and a lot of you probably feel the same because you have maybe also been a fan for a long while! But I've been with LM since the beginning, or at least the second batch of pages. (THAT IS STILL VERY EARLY ON OKAY) I've been an avid reader of this comic for a very long time, despite not reblogging much from @daedelweiss. I just. I never got around to it, and now I kind of regret it.
I already went on a whole spiel in the comment section of the youtube version (Go check it out over there and give it a like and share with your friends please) about how much I appreciate daedelwiss and their team for working so hard on such a passionate and long project. But I never really praised the art itself. SO! I'ma do that right here, right now!
If you don't wanna read all of that and just wanna watch the friggin thing, then please do! Everything I wanna say is under the massive void of emptiness below so you can choose to read it. Just wanna show appreciation for one of my absolute all-time favorite AU's in the world.
Daedelwiss.
That was never a username I thought I'd memorize.
From the beginning, I at first thought the art was a bit too stiff, too wonky. April looked a little off at the time, but that's just because I was so used to all the more stretchy and anatomically incorrect art styles. I was too used to seeing art styles replicating or looking similar to the actual show. Other than Bloodbath, Life Mission was the first AU comic that I saw with a whole different art style that I had to get used to! So I wasn't all that intrigued, but I still read the pages I saw for shits and giggles.
Oh boy.
What ensued after like. A minute or two of reading, was just me geeking out over the colors and thick line-art and expressive emotions and pretty great dialogue! I was hooked, and immediately went onto Daedelwiss's blog to find the first pages because I was stupid and didn't see the link right at the bottom of the post.
Then I kept reading and geeking out and wanting more more MORE! I was ecstatic, waiting each day for a new batch of pages like a little kid on Hanukkah waiting for her presents on the eighth night. I was invested in how emotional and tense everything was. How determined Leo was to get his family back. How much he felt for his father in the memory sequence. How he was so close to breaking down when watching his father from the past tell his baby self what his brothers would've been like. How Leo then internalized every single word and made it his life mission to find his brothers and save them and bring them home and...
How everything just felt so raw and emotional. Because... Because how would you feel if you knew you had a loving family outside your home and in danger?
i dont know. thats why i read this comic.
It's not just the story, though. Over time, I quickly got used to seeing incredibly different art styles in the Rise community, and I had a burning love for all these projects within my soul growing. Especially when it came to Life Mission. When I finally got used to all these different AU's and stuff, I looked back at Life Mission, and felt a whole new appreciation for just. The art.
Because it takes a lot of effort, and I mean A LOT OF EFFORT, to draw something as clean and neat and strong as the style of Life Mission. The lines are always so perfectly thick and thin in the right places. The colors are so soothing for the eyes. There are no sketchy mistakes or lines that looked like they were drawn twice. Everything about the art is so expressive and neat, like it's all done by a professional, and once I got used to seeing so many sketchy and warbly drawings of the boys... I just. Adored Life Mission even more for what it was.
The neat art style also just helps the comic and the story stand out from all the rest. In all the other comics I've seen for this fandom, or at least a majority of them anyway, the art styles are all radically different and are all going for a sharpness. Like they are trying to be as unique as Rise itself. And none of them are bad, and I love all the art that every person in this fandom puts out because everyone here is all so lovely and creative! I wouldn't have it any other way! But Life Mission is different. There are no overly sharp edges or sketchy lines or half-assed backgrounds. (I really do adore half-assed backgrounds. I really really do love them. Please half-ass backgrounds more often) It's all just... A clean-cut perfection to the T!
And I adore that.
Amidst all the chaos, all the shenanigans, we have Life Mission. A fully fleshed-out, written, thought-over, basically finished story and comic.
(I meant "Finished" as in: The creator already knows what the story is gonna be like. I mean, what was this trailer even for if they didn't know where the story was going??)
It's all so well-done and just so lovingly crafted. Every panel in each page is drawn with patience and love. Every frame painstakingly animated is done with expertise. Every hiatus is set with purpose and self-love. And I just... I can't stress enough how much I love all of that.
I highly appreciate and look up to Daedelwiss, mostly because of their dedication to this story and the huge commitment they're giving it. In the past, I've tried committing to something not even half as big as this story, and it ended up failing because I just. Can't. Commit. But Daedelwiss was able to keep their head up and keep working, was able to give themselves breaks and time for themself while working on the comic and animations, and managed to make us all collectively feel for their characters and their world with just a few promotional animatics and comic pages. That all takes some serious talent, and I am very glad to say that Daedelwiss had all that talent right there in their pocket.
Speak of the devil, I really hope you see this Daedelwiss and know how much you're appreciated. I adore your art skills now, as I've spent a whole essay's worth of writing stating. But it was your inherit skill in writing that really drew me in from the beginning. As an amateur writer myself who's ran into many drawbacks while trying to write, I just. Really like what you've pulled off so far, and I hope your success continues. You've got a great story here and amazing art/writing skills, and I just really like that. It's cool.
Also good job on prioritizing your health and self-care over this comic/story. I give an A+ just for that alone lol
WELP!! That was a lot...! I spent a lot of time writing all of that, and I still have more to say about just. The characters! But I've wasted enough of your time, dear reader. Thank you so so SO MUCH for reading this, really, this was long even for me! It means a ton to me that you made it this far.
Please share Life Mission with your friends, I really hope they like it because this story is my all-time favorite and I really want it to get an oscar if it's even possible-
(/aff and /hj)
I spent like. I think an hour. Writing that. Hope you somehow liked it.
kthxbye-

No but this is so funny-
@psykopoulpe
Like I was curious, so I went onto your blog, and not only are half your posts hatesucking Bakugou's dick-
You also get mad at someone for "blackwashing a poc character" for drawing them??? In a slightly more realistic style compared to the animation.
But you also think Endeavour- a man who PHYSICALLY ABUSED HIS CHILD, making a LITERAL FOUR YEAR OLD PUKE from stress; who was so psychologically manipulative that his own WIFE poured BOILING WATER on their son just because half of his face looked like her husband; and that's not even counting Touya who nearly actually took his own life because of Endeavor, Natsuou who hates his guts, or Fuyumi who had to go through the stress of being pretty much a stand in mother for her younger siblings despite being a child herself.
I believe in two sides to every story, I believe that Endeavour's character arc is rather well written- but also? His actions actuslly had direct consequences?
Bakugou was a bully, yeah, but he was also just Some Dude. Every bullying flashback we get was the WHOLE CLASS. Hell, even the TEACHER bullied Midoriya- like?? Both of them, did. What kind of fucking teacher tells a kindergarten class "Treat him differently from other kids"? Also future reports (I.e. school choices) aren't even supposed to be passed around from kid to kid- yeah, nobody actually listens, they're like test scores), but they are DEFINITELY not the sort of thing that a teacher should be telling the class, let alone telling the class with the kid who bragged about being in the highest tax bracket (fucking nerd) and called his classmates extras and D listers.
We're not really going to pretend that Enji Todoroki, who violently cast aside all of his perfectly quirked children, wouldn't also be the snot nosed brat on the playground pushing around the Quirkless Kid.
Sometimes I want in my heart to take You People seriously, but then you pull shit like "He's only a literal murderer 🥺 Of course he's better than a childhood bully" or "He only abused and led to the physical scarring of two of his kids 🥺 He only borderline blackmailed his wife into being with him and drove her so insane that she hurt her own children 🥺 He's way better than a child who was mean." Absolute clowns lmfao.
Endeavour is a grown ass adult. An adult who had literal power over children. A main who took his inferiority out on a four year old child. A man who continued to take his anger out on said child until the child grew up seeing his fellow students as stepping stones, didn't care about anything other than his victory, and singled out any student he saw as a threat and hey wait this sounds familiar-
(It kinda does make you think- if EarlyRoki was a result of childhood abuse, then what does that say about Bakugou, who was incredibly similar??)
'Bakugou bullied Midoriya for years!!1!' and Enji abused Shouto for just as long??? (His other kids for even longer)- the difference is that Midoriya had every right, reason, and opportunity to just... walk away. Like that was a part of the reason Bakugou hated him sob much, because he couldn't understand anyone being that genuinely affectionate towards him, so he (like children do) rationalized that Well Actually Midoriya must hate him. Obviously.
If you can understand how Enji Todoroki was blinded by his own weakness to the point where he couldn't see anything but his own failures- to the point of taking it out on his children, especially young Shouto- and how he learned that sheer strength isn't everything and his quest for power made him empty-
Maybe you guys should understand how Katsuki Bakugou did the same thing, except his worst offense was saying stupid shit as a middle schooler. He knew Midoriya wasn't actively suicidal, it was just a taunt ('you don't even havs rhe courage to die') Endeavour left his literal child to burn in a forest fire, like. I dunno how to say that a rude comment is not worse than allowing and enabling self harm.
Also 'Deku' isn't a slur, nor is it really made up. It's a derivative of 'Dekunobu' meaning a wooden doll; when used as an insult, meaning useless. Not that like. I'd expect either you or your hatesucking bestie to extrapolation anything. Like at all. Because you can't read shit when it's spelled out.
But like, I dunno, bro.
Maybe take a page from a dude who knows something.
This is you guys @ Bakugou honestly lmfao.
Honestly, I want to know what manga you're reading where Bakugou is never and has never been in any harm, because like?? That sounds like my shit bro. Can some anti drop the link??
No Sludge Villain, no Kacchan Versus Deku one, no Sports Festival endgame, no Summer Training Camp, no kidnapping, no Kamino, no Kacchan Versus Deku two, significantly less Provisional Liscening Exam content, no Remedial Liscencing Exam, no Black Whip reveal because Kamino never happened, Midoriya dies during the War Arc, the hospital scene doesn't exist...
Man what a manga! I would love to see how a literal abuser is somehow more redeemable than a middle schooler. Who was rude. Because he was a middle schooler.
I'm the dumb one here for talking to a person in a whole ass Discord server dedicated to hating a fictional character, but like. Wow.
What do y'all even talk about??? "Oh my god I saw some Bakugou fanart today, look at it >>>:( I hate his stupid pretty face" 'Yeah fr why he gotta be so handsome?' 'I mean he's irredeemable obvi' 'But like...'
I should have blocked you ages ago, but this is kinda flattering 😳 this post has like... Three notes or something and no tags, how?? Did you even find it??
Also like. Are you asking me to get out every single manga panel with Bakugou contributing a major theme? Because like. I mean I could. Most of it is show not tell or (subjective to a point- especially considering 'what parts of his character play a role in this?'), but like I could.
To sum it up in a few panels, it would be;
The constant insertion of Bakugou into Midoriya's character. (Saying that Bakugou completes him, and now establishing Bakugou as Midoriya's weakness). I would add "Give him back," but there is an image limit.
Midoriya being a big center of Bakugou's development, thereby framing him as a True Hero, cementing him as a Hero (who saves) Heroes. Looping back around to Midoriya's admiration of Bakugou, a way for him to TRULY break free from his place as a Dekunobu. (Not to rag, but not really something that Endeavour can offer, as all of his victims felt differently, and, depending on the playout Dabi favors revenge over atonement or his father's new Heroism- which will always make him nothing more than an abuser to Dabi)- but also the way Bakugou ties in with Midoriya and All Might:
How they both admired him, but saw diffefent parts of him. There are a lot of points I could make about this- how Midoriya claims to admire and strive to be like All Might, but he copies Bakugou; how often teamwork is emphasized, and specifically, Bakugou and Midoriya teaming up at Endeavour's Agency when he's the man 'closest to All Might' despite never surpassing him; and just the general amount of times where Bakugou and Midoriya are both shown specifically involving All Might and/or his Heroism. However, the biggest and major theme is most definitely:
Save To Win/Win To Save.
The emphasis on their dual takes on Heroism. Midoriya who was weak always saw how amazing it was to see someone being saved. Bakugou who was strong always saw how amazing it was to see someone win. Midoriya wanted to save, Bakugou wanted to win.
They were both haunted by their inferiority in different ways.
Honestly this is one of my favorite topics so like??? Thanks for making me feel betted lmao, but I genuinely love how Midoriya represents what Hero Society CLAIMS to stand for- saving people at all costs, selfless dedication, helping the people who need it. Whereas, Bakugou represents what Hero Society ACTUALLY stands for- he wants to win above all else, he doesn't care about helping others, he lets his own vanity get in the way of his Heroism.
Now, Bakugou realizes early on that pure strength isn't enough to be strong. He and Midoriya are both faced with the downfalls of their ideologies: Bakugou can't handle his own weakness and Midoriya can't handle his own strength.
Bakugou has suffered at the negligence of Heroes time and time again. Even now he is suffering because Hero Society put so much effort into looking pretty that it never considered a genuine crisis. As a literal MIDDLE SCHOOLER, he watches Heroes LET him die in a crowded street corner instead of working with each other; he saw people who gathered around, gawking at him- they didn't care about his pain, all they wanted was to see some flashy display of power from a prominent Hero.
Midoriya on the other hand, never really knew what it felt like to win. He chased winning with a reckless abandon- and his internal arc didn't have a concrete kick in?
Maybe the Ball Throw? Gaining All Might's approval? The Entrance Exam?
Personally, I would say his idea of winning started to kick in during the USJ- but it was before that. The USJ was when he started internalizing that desire to win, hence copying Bakugou- another reoccuring theme throughout. From the shoulder throw during the Sports Festival (or the yelling during the USJ), to unlocking his percentages/Shoot Style, and other movesets of his copying Bakugou- not to mention Black Whip and Danger Sense both coming out because of Bakugou- Midoriya thinks of Bakugou in a crisis; Bakugou IS his crisis.
"Give him back!" "There is no wall too high to climb" "You're my image of victory"
But also where Bakugou is confronted with his weaknesses, he makes attempts to overcome them. Poorly, at first, of course. He doesn't have a mentor, he doesn't have anyone by his side to guide him intonthe right path. At first, he tries to overcome his weakness by showing off- of course he's the top student in the entrance exam. What else would he be?
That fails, of course, when he is faced with the things that he is lacking (or ths fear that his best isn't good enough)- hence the aftermath of Kacchan Versus Deku one where he gets upset at the other students pointing out his flaws (because like... Bro Yaoyorozu literally just said you had personal motivations- that's??? Not even an insult or something hard to extrapolate- you knew that??? Yeah, feel bad because Iida stayed on task, I guess, but Midoriya ended in a pile of himself and broken bones. He did not beat you. You are delusional, child.) He attempts to strong arm Todoroki, but gets mad when he feels like he isn't being taken seriously.
Again, his weakness is exploited by the Heroes, who chain him up and put him on display. On live television. :|
I will literally never get over that lmao UA had NO RIGHT to FORCE the kid to take an award. They gave him so much shit for his confidence (or, as Midoriya spelled it out 'challenging himself'), so much shit for his strength, only to say "Whaaat?? Noooo, come on you're a winner! Be happy!" at the very end. It wasn't as if kids didn't drop out either, like???
Anyways.
Bakugou was confronted with his weakness, he attempts to overcome it, but he fails.
Midoriya on the other hand also is confronted with his weakness and the way he cannot handle his own quirk. He also attempts to overcome this and fails.
The difference is that Midoriya never abandons his wreckless Heroism. He never stops breaking himself in order to save people.
To save Uraraka during the Entrance Exam, to save his victory during Kacchan Versus Deku one, to save Todoroki, Kota, Bakugou-
It's not as if his actions don't have consequences, but he refuses to see them. His arms are completely scarred over. If he breaks them one more time, they might become unusable.
Bakugou breaks down and realizes the error of his ways (over time as humans do). He learns that his strength is remarkable, yes, but it's not enough to be a true Hero.
This is why I love the fact that Bakugou's outward demeanour never changes, because Best Jeanist tells him to pick his Hero name to show what kind of Hero he wants to be. His original name being Bakusatsuou ('explosion' 'murder' 'god') was a show of his strength, of his desire to win- now his name being Daishinbakuou DynaMight(o) ('Great' 'Explosion' 'Murder' 'God' DynaMight) is a show of his his will, of thr fact that he still has the same Heroic resolve that he did before, but now he's better.
Midoriya tries to outrun the past, even viewing his Hero name as a shackle 'the Deku from before' 'the same old Deku'. He never breaks down his bias- but Bakugou does.
I've gotten a little off topic, but Midoriya is Hero Society's pretend side. His Heroism is admirable, but far from sustainable. Bakugou is Hero Society's true face. He's got the strength to back it up, but he's superficial. Neither of them can survive on their own, that'a why Hero Society is crumbling.
Bakugou slowly learning that his "true victory" has to include blostering his teammates and saving people is a huge step for him, for Society, and just as a big fat metaphor.
Midoriya slowly becoming corrupt by the idea of victory that he loses sight of himself much like Bakugou did- becoming a loner, pushing away his friends, and striving for power and for winning above all else. His Vigilante Arc showcases this immensely where he even does the same thing that Bakugou did back during the Provisional Liscence Exam where he runs into people needing help, onces them over, and then leaves.
(And I feel like this was done specifically, as both instances involved Shindo for some reason... Maybe he'll play an important part in the future)
We always say that Bakugou is Midoriya's Endeavour (the way that he strives for and chases after Midoriya, criticizing his own weakness, and seemingly doing anything he can to get stronger), but in all honesty? Bakugou is Midoriya's All Might; Midoriya is Bakugou's Endeavour.
Well.
Truly it's mutual- they're both chasing each other's tails.
That's why they're such a good pairing, that's why they are the protagonist and the deutragonist, that is why neither of them can die.
Midoriya is the strength within weakness, Bakugou is the weakness within strength. Neither of them can come to terms with their internal struggles through any way but each other- through the weak being strong and through the strong being weak.
Also if seeing Bakugou stresses you out to the point where you join a Discord server, to the point where you hunt down some??? Literal rando from what had to be a year ago- months at least- how??? Did you remember me? Why did you remember me??
Either way, you might want to just. Drop the manga. Like it's almost completed now, so I guess there's no point; but, in the future, I hope you chose things that make you happy. Also sorry when it inevitably comes out that Bakugou IS still alive and he kicks ass, because that is going to happen. No matter what y'all try and say or how much you ignore the canon, Bakugou has been an important figure thus far and he will still remain an important figure.
I have a lot of shit going on irl, so I am really sorry to anyone if I come across as crass, rude, or an asshole. I come onto Tumblr in order to escape the shit I am going through irl, so I already have very little patience when I am online.
With that out of the way, I don't blorbopost often (save random bursts of fanart or occasional theories (except currently I have a few vent posts)), but I am a BakuDeku fan.
Before that, though, I am a Bakugou fan. I care more about his development, treatment, and character more than I care about his importance to/part in any ship (which is unfortunately even more rare in newer fandom)
If you post jokes or memes about the current Hero Academia spoilers, deadass just block me right now. I don't want to see [redacted] and I don't fucking care. Even if it's just a softblock (assuming I follow you), I'm done. I don't want that shit on my dash.
Otherwise, I'm into a myriad of different shows (mostly anime), but I think I'm honestly done with fandom as a whole? Never be afraid to fandomtalk with me though! I'm very open to asks and DMs and post replies!
Other than that, I (usually) don't reblog guilt-trip or anger-activist posts with the intention of agreeing with them. There are a lot of issues out in this world today, and nobody has the ability to care about them all. We certainly don't have the power, and 'privilege' isn't some Pokemon game of type weaknesses; it's a case by case issue at best and it can be easily weaponized.
My last pinned post had a better description, but honestly I've just started unfollowing people who guilt trip too much. I come here for fun.
#me: man I don't want to see this stuff on my dash#some rando from a year(?) ago hunting me down: do you wanna see it in your comments??#bruh lmao#sorry I have a life outside of fandom#a life that consists of a job#this was fun though#now I don't want to block you damn#please keep reminding me why I love these two thank you#see actually#this is the fun part#you hate me#you don't care about the canon#you clearly haven't read the source material#I EXPECT this from you#from people who have spent years slowly adding to my aresenal of Bakugou's importance?? that's different#anyways this was fun#we should do this again sometime#emotional support anti
