Something about Sam trying so hard to escape the life of hunting and actually escaping and being happy just to be dragged back in. Something about Mary cutting all ties to her family to try and have a normal life with her family only to become the reason her family gets become hunters in the first place. Something about being doomed to repeat the same things that happened to your family. Something about having an inescapable faith that you hate.

#the thing i have to praise about this season is at least it leaves me wanting more from it. makes me think about how i'd do this all better#my strong opinions for ff are a cross between 'they would not fucking say/do that' and 'how cool would it be if you'd done [x] instead'#whereas i literally feel nothing at all for the ninja tribunal arc. i just don't care. i'm completely apathetic#except for how rockin splinter looks in his getas ofc
First of all I want to say that you are SO RIGHT, AGAIN for these tags. I/we feel exactly the same - I want to fix FF so. badly. but the dragon season is just... shrug. ok. how about it didn't happen though. (Except Splinter's outfit, which I am keeping forever. When I watched this season 10 years ago I did NOT appreciate his DILF energy enough.) So FF has that going for it. Also, the animation overall is pretty great and fluid, which I like - I thought the dragon season was way too busy, and we do not speak about BTTS in this house.
Please don't apologise for your most excellent opinions, I'm currently living for this.
One thing that didn't make it into my rant earlier: Apart from the obvious Shredder episodes, Sh'Okanabo's "mutate people with goo" plan was already done by Bishop, by accident, and better in S04.
I desperately want to give Raph a hug.
You're completely right that I would have LOVED to see some acknowledgements of the turtles' trauma for being ripped from their lives to a future where everyone they love has been dead for 50+ years, and the fact we don't get that is one of the show's greater failings. I know you've been mining Laird's old blog for opinions and notes like @battle-nexus and I have, so you have probably seen the rant he went on regarding Cody, but it feels worth pointing out again that Laird explicitly wanted to address this elephant in the room, and was told by the studio that doing so would make Cody look bad and to drop it, which just infuriates me to no end. It would have made for an infinitely better story.
By the way, part of me has started plotting a FF-esque rewrite a la Scooby Doo with Darius Dunn as the obvious Big Bad, who would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for those meddling kids and their two weird dads. Again, it would have been a much better show for it.
I know Fast Forward was meant to get two seasons and ended up going down after one, and I would be willing to make concessions for this if I saw any evidence that they were setting up something interesting anywhere, but... I am seeing very little of this.
I do love TT2 though. He's one of the better parts of the future. Good kid.
One thing that has been on my mind all day (sorry to my wife for randomly bringing it up every hour or so...) is that the future on Earth is utterly devoid of humans. Like, now that I'm looking for it, it actually creeps me out. Every single person in the background is some sort of alien, and not even like, a consistent six species or anything, they're just shapes and colors everywhere. Parts of some episodes & the supplementary comics keep mentioning that the atmosphere has been altered in NYC but also elsewhere to contain more sulphur and nitrogen to accommodate alien species. All food is synthetic, or moss, or marine life, or alien animals (herd-beasts or something for hot dogs? squid-cicles?). So my question is... are there any humans left? Is earth's plant and animal life just completely gone? or is New New York (don't get me started on that name) just really, really weird?
The only humans that feature at all are Cody, his uncle, and Bishop, all of whom are white, American, uber rich and running the show. No other relevant humans I can think of except TT2. (Do we count the Street Phantoms as human? I don't know???)
In a similar vein, it creeps me out that everything of any relevance or importance in the background seems to be O'Neill-Tech-powered. Buildings and billboards are everywhere. They provide most tech and power to the city. They run most large events. Yet Cody never leaves the house. Except when he does, to go to all these events. Or something.
ALSO. WHAT IS GOING ON IN THE REST OF HIS BUILDING APART FROM THE TOP FLOOR PENTHOUSE? ASKING FOR A FRIEND (my sanity).
At least FF becomes a lot more enjoyable now that you're somehow making me like Serling. I mean, he is SO RUDE. But he's actually right, though.
(When the turtles set up their parkour in Ep02 and start smashing furniture while Splinter lobs cutlery at them, I actually had to pause and take a deep breath. There's "we didn't clean our takeaway boxes and smashed a plate while doing the dishes", and then there's... whatever the hell is going on here. Talk to me again about how they don't have any trauma or residual vengeful fantasies about the whole Cody scenario that they may be acting out here, show. Go on.)

@love-killed-the-superstar I hope you don’t mind but this particular part of your recent liveblog just… really sparked something in my brain that I need to get out, re: Fast Forward, and it’s this repeating theme of FF rehashing a plot point from S1-4 but worse. Like the turtles version of a live action Disney reboot.
This turned into a massive rant, oops, more under the cut. Clearly, I have a lot of feelings about this.
