All right, listen. It’s pretty damn funny that two weeks ago I posted all like, “oh I don’t really comment chapter-by-chapter, I’m waiting to see what happens next,” but this one broke me.
This chapter was everything I wanted for bkdk, and it’s so much more tender than I ever dreamed it could be.
This post is not going to be like most of my posts, because I am a flood of emotion. If you’re wanting some detailed, well-researched analysis of this scene, that ain’t coming for a while.
I don’t have some kind of comparative linguistics to show you. I just have my visceral reactions as someone who speaks Japanese and has absorbed Japanese media for many years. I have shared my heart with others in Japanese, I’ve sputtered out words between sobs and felt the many kinds of comfort different people try to offer. I have comforted others who let themselves be vulnerable with me.
In all these moments, just as in English, I wondered if my words and feelings reached them. Each time, I felt the warmth of connection when they looked at me, and I decided that they knew I did my best. They accepted me, even if it wasn’t perfect.
I’m gonna tell you the truth, and I wouldn’t normally say this so directly, but it matters to me: the fan translation for this specific scene is not good. The tone is wildly off in some ways and it outright omits a number of very important words.
The official translation gets so much of it right.
But that’s not really what I want to talk about right now. I want to talk about how people are reading this scene.
I have seen a ton of, frankly, oblivious interpretations of Izuku’s side of things.
Listen to me. Izuku is not making fun of Katsuki for crying, he is not telling Katsuki that crying isn’t like him, that isn’t in the text at all. He is not rejecting Katsuki’s feelings, or belittling them, or ignoring them, or any of that.
Izuku has seen Katsuki cry in-canon a number of times, but every time it was over his own personal failures, and the frustration, anger, guilt, and grief associated with them. We see it in the aftermath of Deku vs. Kacchan 1. We see it during Deku vs. Kacchan 2.
Izuku is shocked to see Kacchan cry because this is the first time he has cried for Izuku.
When Katsuki apologized in 322, he looked Izuku in the eye and told him his feelings with conviction and poise. He was gentle and vulnerable, but strong, because he was asking Izuku to trust them and rely on them. To come back with them and believe in them, like they believe in Izuku. He bowed his head to show his remorse. He caught Izuku when he fell, and he accepted Izuku’s own apology.
Tumblr media
He embodied dignity, sincerity, and strength of character. He was a true hero.
This?
Tumblr media
This is the raw, honest sorrow of a young boy. It is a tender, earnest, unguarded display of how much Izuku means to him.
These are the tears you shed for someone you cherish. These are tears for when you think you are losing something you can’t live without. Because Katsuki isn’t just crying for the loss of Izuku’s dream—it’s their dream, the future they dreamt up together as kids.
Tumblr media
Izuku is almost pathologically incapable of understanding how other people see him and feel about him, but this is unmistakable. He is stunned because there is no other explanation.
Tumblr media
There is unmitigated heartache and longing at the core of Katsuki saying, “I just thought somehow we would be together like this, competing and chasing after each other, forever.”
And Izuku is reeling, but so, so touched, and filled with fondness. Look at how his shock shifts to this overwhelmed, affectionate smile.
Tumblr media
He’s right—this isn’t the usual Katsuki, and that is precisely why it means so much. We as the audience have been privy to Katsuki’s feelings, but until now Izuku himself has never really grasped the depth of them. This is all the tenderness Katsuki has kept locked up inside, and he is letting Izuku see it for the first time.
To see Kacchan—strong, fierce, and absolutely unstoppable—shed these innocent, helpless tears for him and tell him through sobs that he wanted things to stay this way forever, I can’t blame him for being blown away.
I think Izuku expected Katsuki to be shocked and a little sad that he gave up OFA, both for Izuku’s sake and because it is the legacy of their hero. Before Katsuki even starts crying, Izuku has this small smile on his face, like he was ready to reassure him that he had made peace with his own choice.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But he clearly didn’t expect for Katsuki to weep openly in front of him about it or to confess to wanting him by his side. Izuku had so enjoyed just being allowed near Katsuki, allowed in his life at all—to think that Katsuki could want the same and want it this much, to the point that he worries that things would change, that Izuku would abandon him or deny him? How could that ever be?
In what world could Izuku ever stop chasing Kacchan?
Izuku is a bit of an idiot. He has always thought that Katsuki understood how much he cared for and admired him—that’s why he is so shocked during DvK2 to hear that Katsuki thought he looked down on him for years. Izuku thought Katsuki understood his feelings and simply rejected them.
The way he loves Kacchan is natural and unquestionable. Even now, he can’t understand how Katsuki doesn’t know. It’s baffling to him.
But he still accepts Katsuki’s vulnerability and responds to the intimacy.
Tumblr media
This is such an affectionate, loving thing to say. Izuku is being so sweet. I cannot convey to you strongly enough how Izuku telling Katsuki, “C’mon, stop it, this isn’t like you!” reaffirms their closeness.
If Izuku had not said this line and instead skipped straight to this nervous, awkward little attempt at comfort here:
Tumblr media
It would have read as so much more distant.
With his tears and his confession, Katsuki pleads with Izuku to not leave him. To be with him always.
And in response, Izuku unabashedly stakes his claim on their bond by being bold enough to affectionately scold him and even assert authority on what kind of person Katsuki is. Remember these?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Chapters 202 and 319
This is such a staple in Japanese media for showing close bonds. Your loved ones know you. They tease you. They scold you. They have that right. You gave it to them.
The people you love cheer you up by reminding you that you’re strong and brave and that even if things feel hopeless and like you can’t go on, that they know you can. Everything will be okay, and they know so because they’ll be right there with you. Of course they’ll be there.
Symbolically, throughout the series, Izuku’s response to Katsuki trying to be closer to him has always been: “Of course.”
He has always accepted Katsuki as much as he is able to, as much as he had awareness for. He is wildly lacking in self-awareness, so it’s certainly not perfect, but by god does he try.
What Izuku is really saying is a mixture of “Really? You want that, too?” and “Don’t be silly!”
One part is him being shocked and touched; the other is him being absolutely certain of his own heart, and showing it as best he can.
He does get flustered and self-conscious, though—because it’s overwhelming to see Kacchan this way, and this is kind of new territory for them. So he switches tactics to reassure Kacchan about how things are now, and make sure he doesn’t feel embarrassed about this outburst. He still has the embers, so it’s okay for now. And their bodies are weak, so of course their heads will be in a bad place too, it’s easy to get low spirits. Of course Katsuki would be feeling vulnerable. It’s normal.
He gives Katsuki so many things here. He gives him as much as he can.
Izuku doesn’t know how long he’ll have the embers for and, frankly, he doesn’t have any guarantee that he will be able to satisfy this longing of Katsuki’s after he loses them. This, too, is a staple of promises in Japanese media: “I don’t know if I can satisfy you, but I want to try. I hope you can accept me.”
Things will be different—the future is always uncertain, now more than ever for their world. But what will never change is what they feel in their hearts.
After this scene, I honestly don’t care if we get something other people see as “bkdk canon.”
What Katsuki says is as good as a confession to me. What Izuku says in return is genuine and pure. This is a messy pair of teenage boys figuring out how to reach each other with words, when they have always been so damn bad at it. This is the two of them both reaching a new point of intimacy and reaffirming everything that came before.

Summary: Deku whines, "This is so unfair. Can you even feel my weight?"
"A little!" Eijiro says, good-naturedly. He half-squats once or twice, just to test, and then proceeds to shoulder-press the nerd. "I could probably do like a hundred reps with your body."
Deku just whines louder.
Katsuki has had enough.

Summary: Kacchan’s hand could cover his, would widen the space between his fingers with his own if they were interlaced, could probably hold both of his hands in one. God.
Izuku watches him now, as Kacchan twirls a pencil in his right hand in front of him. Izuku is two seconds away from scolding him for lack of public decency. Especially when Kacchan reaches for his water bottle and unscrews the cap, the bottle and lid tiny in his hands, tendons flexing casually in a way that is, quite frankly, obscene.

Big Hands (Bigger Dick) by tiredwrites
Summary: Izuku loves Kacchan's hands. They're warm—they're calloused perfectly - not too rough, not too soft - and they're /big/.
They're perfect.
Izuku loves how they envelop his tiny hands, holding his hands delicately between rough, calloused palms.
He loves Kacchan's hands with a passion. He loves how they enclose his own, how they skirt across his freckled skin, how they looked with black and gold rings settled on the thick digits, how they look covered in blood, in slick, in everything.
Everything.

Summary: All the eyes of the world look up to Izuku as a role model, a hero and a symbol of everything good that exists. The lecherous fucks at this gala were ogling him just as much as Katsuki, even if the oblivious bastard was too busy being jealous of those looking at Katsuki to notice.
He's stupid and perfect and Katsuki is helplessly smitten.
But he doesn't want to spoil him by encouraging bad behavior, so Katsuki clicks his tongue and pulls Izuku in for one more heated kiss, then keeps him close so he can stare at his lips as he murmurs, "If you can keep it in your pants long enough to get these monkey suits off of us first, then I'll give you a reward. How's that sound?"
Izuku's cheeks flush red and he nods his head eagerly, "Yes, please."
Katsuki grins, cupping Izuku's chin as he genially says, "Good boy."

Bigger Is Best by MuscleChubBoi
Summary: When they'd started out at UA, Deku had been a scrawny little shit. Now as adults, the asshole is a total brick house. And he's gotten stronger than Katsuki too. Way stronger. It's absolutely un-fucking-acceptable.
In a jealous (and somewhat aroused) rage over Izuku's progress, Katsuki decides that he needs to catch up and surpass that shitty nerd by any means necessary. The solution? Bulk excessively. Work out for all he's worth. He gets stronger very quickly. Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately) all that excessive eating and not watching his calories close enough while he trains has caused him to gain a lot more than just extra muscle.
But maybe he likes it... Midoriya certainly does.

Bite Me, Big Man, I Ain't Leaving by CatieBrie
Summary: Popular horror writer, Bakugo Katsuki, hated moving, but he had to do it a lot lately. So often, in fact, that he usually just left half his shit packed up for when his fans inevitably forced him somewhere new. His new home, Yujomachi, was a tiny town not found on most maps with a train system that eschewed all rhyme and reason, making it a place nearly impossible to find. It was a straight up pain in the ass which was exactly what Katsuki needed and if he was lucky, he'd never have to move again.
That was, however, if Deku let him stay.

How I got the ChatGPT A.I. to admit Katsuki is in love with Izuku
Tumblr media
Uhh... My friend has got me onto AI chat recently, and yesterday I was messing around with it, because I wanted to see if I can get A.I chat to come to the conclusion of bkdk canon, if I tell it additional context it doesn't know because it's cut off point is September 2021 and things between bkdk hadn't progressed too far at that point.
One thing to note: it constantly reminds me that it doesn't "have an opinion" it just forms objective analysis on the characters and the events. So I try to evolve this objective analysis as I went along the list of events that lead to Katsuki's death to see if a single detail of it might change it's 'objective analysis' on whether they will become canon.
The AI has a limited ability to use new information you tell it to string together an updated verdict. So that's what I did. And I used more and more details of Katsuki's death to Shigaraki as the context for the question. Because that's what convinced ME BkDk would become canon. As I was telling it details, I felt like I was pretty much only getting knockbacks. Until I finally had a single success. I also asked it the "kiss" question for those invested in a bkdk kiss. :)
However, at the end I did manage to find out why I got that one success, and the response it gave me is CHEFS KISS. So I will try to explain our conversation as best I can with some screenshots. This is long but, hopefully it's an interesting tale to read! This experiment also made me realise A.I. chat is crazy intelligent at communication.
Tumblr media
So I got a negatory right off the bat and think: Since it only knows events up until a certain date, maybe I can tell it about some events that happen and see how it views Katsuki's and Izuku's behaviour?
Tumblr media
I asked it what chapter it has access to and it said chapter 326. So it at least knows about the bkdk apology. (But it never factors this moment into it's analysis)
Tumblr media
It also repeats this line a lot "It's ultimately up to Kohei Horikoshi." Which is true, I should probably try to re-do our conversation at some point and tell it it doesn't need to repeat this point, because it does become repetitive. Depending on your question it'll end it's answer with a "it's up to the reader interpretation." or "it's up to the creator."
Tumblr media
I corrected it that it was chapter 322, but it only remembers details you tell it in your current chat. It, as an AI , can't learn from you for it's interactions with others. Oh well. Probably for the best...
"Midoriya forgives him and the two share a hug." This take is interesting. I never really thought about that. For Izuku they very much have a "there's nothing to forgive" dynamic, but in Katsuki exposing himself and letting down his walls, Izuku definitely felt safe enough to let his own walls down too and responded to Katsuki by apologising for his own behaviour, wanting to be close to Kacchan - stumbling towards him as he was passing out.
The anime clearly shows Izuku wanting, or needing a moment of intimacy with Kacchan that he's never had before, and Katsuki feeling the same way, catches him. So maybe there's forgiveness in that, in Izuku realising Katsuki was finally telling him it was okay for Izuku to be by his side, and that he wants him there.
Another way you can make sense of the AI's answer is that Kacchan needed to have Izuku's forgiveness, despite there being nothing to forgive for Izuku. And Izuku senses this, so he steps towards him to hug him or be closer to him and tell him it's all okay, but his fatigue cuts his desires short and Kacchan, noticing those desires, as he notices everything about Izuku *swoon*, holds him up. Yeah. I like that one too! Talking to AI about bkdk is a fun brain exercise, I'm not gonna lie.
Tumblr media
I ask the AI if I can tell it more details of bkdk relevant to "will it become canon" and it replies that it will do it's best to provide it's objective analysis as it learns these new details.
It misunderstands some things such as when events happen but I find that kinda irrelevant to what I was doing, so don't mind these mistakes.
Btw, if I cut off the ss early, it's only because it's saying bkdk being canon is still vague/unknown, and the decision is for Horikoshi Kohei. This can be repetitive to read, so I cut it out. Like I said I'll probably re-do this conversation where I fix some of it's errors/clarify my context better.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's not biting yet, so I tell it to give me an objective analysis considering the new things I say, and it understood this.
Tumblr media
Then I test it:
Tumblr media
Good, it can recall previous things I've said in the chat.
Tumblr media
remain platonic." (Then it goes into another spiel about Hori being the decision maker.)
At least it said it was possible their relationship "could develop into a romantic one." So I gave it a little positive feedback :P
Tumblr media
It's answer remains unaffected... so I go further into what happens.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It doesn't bite again. But I like how it says that he feels a sense of responsibility towards Izuku. That pulled on my heart a little bit...
But with my next context everything changes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Turns out Katsuki getting up to "impress" Izuku was this AI's tipping point. It's got the wrong idea about "protecting Izuku" but it's also not wrong (which I clarify now and again later) Anyway, Katsuki wanting to be strong to impress the Izuku who loves him for never giving up, tipped this AI's scales towards romance, it would seem lol.
I dramatically clarify that Izuku is not at the battlefield, and ask if this changes it's mind about it's previous analysis. Spoiler alert. It doesn't.
Tumblr media
I tell it more context about how Izuku isn't in time to save Katsuki and what happens to Katsuki: How his quirk evolution scares AFO inside Shigaraki, and ultimately is the cause of his heart exploding when he takes a blow to his chest. The vision in the white realm. His regret of not getting All Might to sign the card, and his memories of Izuku when he first got it. And the way he died, but I also told the AI that it is assumed he will be brought back to life.
I also mentioned (image count maxed out sorry, so I gotta type this):
"Meanwhile, we have some panels of Katsuki thinking about how much his body hurts, and reminiscing about that being the path Izuku walked down. He reaches out to the reader on the page, thinking the words. "Hey... Izuku... Can I still catch up to you?"
It ignores most of the details I told it here, but just adds in that Katsuki's strong emotional connection gave him determination to keep fighting and his quirk awakening. I really liked that. Because that's how I see it too.
Tumblr media
Like when I got to the end of chapter 360, I was reminded of this scene in Sailor Moon S where Usagi is completely beaten but doesn't stop trying to transform into Super Sailor Moon, even though she doesn't have the chalice anymore. That was the first time I realised, this fight between sAFO and Katsuki had a vibe of Sailor Moon. And then that feeling hit me again when Izuku arrived and I made my 367 comparison to Sailor Moon Stars. Since then other bkdks have posted/talked about their own comparisons between BkDk and Sailor Moon/shoujo tropes. It felt very vindicating that others could see this about them too. ^_^
Tumblr media
So it doesn't know what direction the series will head in, but it at least acknowledges that these events can be viewed as romantic. That's far better than your average mha fan, if you ask me... LOL
Tumblr media
I wonder if I had worded this better and said "exploded heart" It would have gave me a different answer.
Bonus: So for fun just now, after rewording my question (a few times) for clarity, I finally got a pretty relevant response.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, going back to where we left off, I had just told it about the volume cover... and then I went into the topic of Gentle and La Brava showing up in the manga not long after Katsuki died. I misquoted Gentle (oops!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So Gentle and La Brava are basically what is known in Japan as a "baka couple" that dotes on each other and describes their love for each other in great amount of detail - what I like about this answer is it's saying that by juxtaposing the baka couple with BkDk, who stay vague and barely define their feelings for each other ever, it highlights the tension and ambiguity going on between bkdk even more. I can also get behind this reasoning for it and add it in my La/Gentle meta. Wow, bot you're helpful!
Bonus: Just now, I tried to fix my mistake and rewote the question again and had to generate it's answer twice for this one. Good Bot! This, I can accept.
This is the only time I've regenerated any answers! I only took it's first answer this whole convo. But out of interest I'll probably regenerate more answers in future to see what other opinions it can formulate about a subject. It probably can come up with a wide range of perspectives, but only focuses on a very limited one for it's answer ^^
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like that it can identify that BkDk are having these same romantic tropes that Gentle/La Brava are talking about. AI Chat is amazing. Moving along...
At this point I'm feeling pretty content with our conversation so far, and I decide to ask it one more controversial question bkdks are quite passionate about:
Tumblr media
A decent answer. I interpret this as "It's possible for a kiss, if Hori knows how to pull it off right." So maybe this is good news for BkDk Kiss enthusiasts! I'll be happy with a loving hug or a kiss, I don't mind at all, as long as they're canon at the end! lol :)
And now we come to the very last thing I say to it. I was happy to engage with an AI about bkdk, but something was bothering me.
Over the course of our conversation, the AI has told me "It's up to author." multiple times about whether bkdk will become canon... However, there was one time it said something different, and that my context "further supports the idea that Katsuki has romantic feelings for Izuku."
So I ask it to clarify one more time what it meant by that, and it slowly writes out this response:
Tumblr media
WOW. What an answer. It blew my mind. "wants to be the best version of himself for him." This is some impressive stuff! ALSO THE BOT WAS NOW CALLING KATSUKI'S BEHAVIOUR FLIRTATIOUS?
But now I wasn't sure, I've never seen the bot say stuff like this. I wanted to clarify what behaviour it meant. Like whether it had misunderstood something I said about the way Katsuki died. But I had a feeling it was talking about Katsuki's tsundere behaviour! And so I asked it what it meant, and the most amazing thing happened...
The answer was written very slowly compared to before, as if the bot had to scrape a lot of information to form a well written response, and this is what it said!:
Tumblr media
WITHOUT MY PROMPTING IT HAD BASICALLY CALLED UPON KATSUKI'S TSUNDERE BEHAVIOUR FOR IZUKU THROUGHOUT THE SHOW
I COULDN'T BELIEVE MY EYES.
HIS COMPETETITIVE NATURE?
HIS PROTECTIVENESS TOWARDS HIM?
HIS ///JEALOUSY// OF OTHERS GETTING CLOSE TO IZUKU ??? ARE YOU KIDDING ME RIGHT NOW???
HOW DO YOU *KNOW* ABOUT ALL THIS, AI-SAMA?!!! I SCREAMED READING ALL THIS. Even most bkdks don't really talk about Katsuki being jealous of others getting close to Izuku??? Wow. I was VERY impressed.
This answer was so different to everything it's told me before. The AI actually understands Katsuki as a character, and combined this understanding with my new information about him getting up to win for Izuku.
On a very surface level, it understood that Katsuki wanting to impress him in this case, is a core feature that's apart of Katsuki's overall behaviour towards Izuku and associated them together. Which meant that for it's answer, it could draw on Katsuki's other behaviours in it's knowledge bank, viewing them in whole. And it recognised that despite everything having gone wrong for him and knowing it was futile, Katsuki still had the determination to stand up and win for Izuku and impress him anyway, which especially made this an action of Katsuki's love towards Izuku that the AI can acknowledge as being about more than just mere friendship.
(Wew, that was a mouthful! Hopefully it kinda makes sense? I hope?)
And that is how I got an AI Chat to agree with us. A.I Chat is a bkdk, confirmed. Neeee, AI-sama?

Hc that Kacchan developed a very discerning sweet tooth as a little kid after learning about the existence of devils and angels food cake, which he thought was hilarious and became fascinated learning about flavor profiles and how they shape the perception of food
As he gets older he leans more into cooking than baking because he grows too impatient and ill tempered to create the level of baked goods he wants and huffs it off as a waste of time anyway
But after the war Izuku wants to make Eri and Kota some treats for their conjoined birthday party,
Izuku didn’t even have to ask Katsuki to help him, Katsuki just found his feet moving on their own into the kitchen where some cook books were stored and grabbing a small one for simple desserts, while asking the freckled hero what he had in mond
Beaming Izuku started rambling that it should be something portable because their having the party outside, he knows Eri loves apples, he once made her some candy apples, has Kacchan ever made candy apples? It was harder than he’d expected but Kacchan would probably have no problem, especially since he’s more heat resistant. He’s not too sure about what Kota likes but he kinda reminds him of a younger Kacchan so something spicy? Can desserts be spicy? Eri might not like that
Katsuki caught himself leaning against the counter, book forgotten, listening with rapt attention and blatantly staring. Embarrassed by his lack of irritation he quickly straightened up and shoved the book into Izukus mouth.
“Start looking nerd, choose something good, because it’s gonna have to stand out against sugar guy’s cake”
With that Katsuki stomped over to check the cupboards and fridge, mostly to hide his blushing but also making note that they had plenty of apples and the base ingredients for nearly any dessert, so they likely wouldn’t need to go to the store
After some debate they decide on Apple Pie Snickerdoodles, adding a little more to the spices, it’s something different but nothing beyond an amateur bakers capabilities and sure to be enjoyed by both kids
It’s not as mind-numbingly boring as Katsuki remembers, maybe because Izuku is there making himself both useful and entertaining; from using a hand whisk to cream the sugar and (cold)butter together with the efficiency of even the best stand mixers on the market, to catching leftover apple chunks in his mouth like a trained seal
Katsuki hasn’t had this much light hearted fun in what feels like eons, that light feeling carries over into the next day at the party
The cookies are big hit, Eri might be the smiley-ist child Katsukis ever met, her joy is so contagious that everyone is infected
Even the shy cranky little boy Kota is full of energy and high spirits, he seems so different from the brat he watched punch Izuku in the dick at camp
Watching her and Kota jump around feels healing in a way he can’t describe, he’s not great with words, but it’s like proof of their victory, reassuring that their sacrifices were worth it
More than that it brings to mind his own childhood birthdays-
The ones where he had to invite Izuku; annoyed he showed up, and devastated the one time he didn’t, only to be annoyed when he arrived the next day with a gift and apologies.
The ones where he had to go to Izukus, grumbling the whole time but never leaving his side and even throwing a fit when it was time to leave
The ones were he no longer had to invite Deku, so he didn’t, and the building annoyance when he didn’t show up that day or the next, instead a present and card were just left in the mailbox, so a singed card was left on Dekus desk that next Monday
The following ones where Izuku invited no one and no one bothered to inquire about it, what the nerd had done if anything at all was a mystery
Now he stood watching two kids with just as different temperaments as him and Izuku, choosing to share a birthday, pulling each other out of their usual bubbles with wild exuberance for life that only children can possess
Well children and a handful of UA losers who seems just as excited about the party games as any child
Mirio was helping his boyfriend cheat at twister by disappearing a leg, Kaminari was failing epically to pin a tail on a donkey, and Kirishima was trying to break open a piñata with just his arm while Sero kept it out of reach so he was left swinging wildly at nothing, while Mina was trying to incorporate her dance moves into a game of charades and making it impossible to guess what the hell she was miming
All of which was entirely independent of the actual birthday kids, who were currently being swung around by Izuku’s black whip like a living carnival ride
Katsuki enjoy just watching, so he sat next to Momo who’d brought tea and some seriously fancy looking scones(they each had had a perfectly candied fruit slice on top) to go along with a costume closet she’d tailored for each kid for dress up tea time
Humoring her he dawned a crown decked out in concerningly realistic looking rubies, when she refused to meet his raised eyebrow he changed the unspoken topic and in faux haughty tone asked for the recipe of the scones, when she actually produced several recipe cards he was pleasantly surprised by how warm the idea of making them made him
The idea of spending Sunday morning in the kitchen slowly making a perfect replica of each brought a smile and sense peace to him, even as he looks over the cards and noted how simple the steps, there’s be no rushing and he kinda liked the idea of taking his second chance at life a little slower, enjoying the little things just a little more.
No grande event on the horizon that he felt the need to rush towards, this time he’d enjoy getting there just as much as he enjoyed the victory,
Maybe even more he thought smirking up at an out of breath Izuku, who’d come to join him, now adorning a glossy top hat and a monocle that were completely out of place on such a sweaty dopily grinning face
Definitely more

Menagerie part 2
PART ONE
Izuku came home that night buzzing with excitement. And dread. And years worth of repressed emotions. All this time he thought he was quirkless- everyone did- but that wasn't true? And he didn’t entirely know why it manifested so late or if it had just been active the whole time but either way he was trying not to freak out about it.
He needed to tell his mom. Eraserhead had told him to let her know about the change in schedule, and that the school would take care of his training for his quirk in place of his last few weeks at Aldera as well as lunches and things like that so he wouldn’t be behind when he started at UA, but…what was he going to tell his mom?
“Hey mom, you know how we sort of avoid each other and you ignore me all the time because I’m quirkless? Yeah well turns out I’m not, and that basically all these years of you treating me like I was worthless were unnecessary? Because I have a quirk now, so we can go back to how it was when I was four and you actually loved me?”
No. He couldn’t say that. Izuku didn’t know if he even wanted to talk to his mom about it. Part of him thought she would get mad, and a part of him hoped everything would go back to before, even though he wasn’t so sure it could go back to that after everything that happened, or if things would just stay the same. Izuku shook his head. No, he needed to tell her so he could train at UA.
“Mom?” He called, even though he had a sneaking suspicion that she wasn’t home. Like always. Izuku wandered over to the kitchen counter where an empty to-go container sat and a note saying she’d be gone for all of next week. Izuku sighed, figuring he'd just text her about it in a vague way and hoped she didn’t come home to yell at him.
Ignoring the building pressure in his chest, he swept the to-go container into the trash and got to work making a cup of ramen for dinner. It was his usual go-to meal when it was nearing the end of the week. Inko only ever gave him money for very few groceries at the beginning of the week, and that was only when she was there. Thankfully, after a few tries Izuku managed to learn to get less…expirable foods. It wasn’t ideal, but just how their relationship worked.
Only this time he went to bed happy, able to text his new friend while he ate dinner. It  made his cold and dark apartment feel less gloomy, and he almost forgot about texting his mom about the day.
Izuku told his mom via text that they needed to talk about his school, and his…quirk, in the morning. He was making ramen yet again for breakfast, only this time with an egg. It was a sort of tradition for him to add an egg for his breakfast ramen because it made him feel more productive and healthy. Even if it was just an egg and he's really just lying to himself to feel better about his situation. The woman didn’t respond, or even read the text, and Izuku had a passing thought that his number was on mute. Sighing, he still got ready for the day. Since it was a Saturday, he didn’t have to worry about running into Kacchan when he left the house early for UA.
While texting Uraraka the whole time on the train, Izuku was practically vibrating with excitement about being able to train his quirk, HIS quirk, at UA with the Eraserhead! To say he was excited was an understatement. The excitement also helped him stifle the feelings around his previous quirklessness and his mom too, so he was sure nothing could ruin his mood.
“Except,'' he thought, “Something that would absolutely be horrifying if all of it turned out to be a one time thing.” What if he could never do it again? What if it was only Uraraka he could do it with? What if he was hurting her or something and was forced to never use his quirk again? What if he was still quirkless and it was all a big elaborate plan? Izuku knew some of these things were not worth worrying about, because they probably would never happen, but still, he was worried.
Izuku continued to be worried for the rest of the train ride, and throughout the time it took for him to walk up to the UA’s big fancy intimidating gates. That is, until Uraraka arrived.
“Izuku!!” She exclaimed, waving as fast as humanly possible as she speed-walked up to him. “Are you ready to figure out your quirk?!”
Izuku laughed,  “I’m still trying to convince myself it wasn’t a dream.”
“Nonsense!” Ochako said, looping her arm around his and walking to the gates together. “Today will be awesome and you’ll learn all about your quirk and we’ll be at UA with Pro Heroes and-and yeah!“
“Yeah,” Izuku nodded determinedly. “Yeah, you’re right. I-I can do this.”
“That's the spirit!” Ochako exclaimed, pumping her fist in the air.
“A-and thank you!” Izuku said, turning to face her with a bit of a blush. “Thank you for being here for me. With me, I mean, I wouldn’t have learned I had a quirk without you and-and this really means a lot.”
With tears in her eyes, ochako smiled. “Well, it is what a hero would do, right?”
“Plus, I’m excited to see what your quirk does! This is a pretty cool discovery, and our combined…form? I’ve been calling it ZuRa, it has unlimited quirk potential!” She rambled, easing both of their nerves. They went on like that the rest of the way, maybe getting lost a bit because of it too.
“Problem children,” Eraserhead sighed. The two looked sheepish, but determined to start whatever hellish training Eraserhead had planned. He sighed, not even questioning how they managed to get lost on the first day of training despite the fact that he knew they’d arrived on campus through the gate well before the allotted time.
“Alright, we’re going to see Recovery Girl first,” Eraserhead muttered, leading the kids away from the staff room and down the hall to the medical wing.
“W-why Recovery Girl?” Ochako asked, trailing behind the pro hero with Izuku at her side.
Before Eraserhead could respond, the green haired boy chimed in with “Oh! Is it because it's technically classified as a body-modification quirk?” He asked, not even pausing for the answer before he plowed on with his explanation. “Since we don’t know what happens to our organs when we fuse together and if it has any long-lasting effects on us afterwards,” Midoriya explained, turning to Ochako.
“You were okay yesterday, right?” Izuku asked.
Ochako waved him off,”Yeah! Recovery Girl checked over that stuff like you asked her to when she fixed my ankle. I feel right as rain!”
Eraserhead sighed. These kids were way too cheerful so early in the morning. When they arrived at the door, he turned to the students, “You both got parental permission for this? The school also sent out emails about it in case the y need more information and paperwork to sign, but everything you filled out for the school for the exams is the same.”
“Yep!” Ochako beamed, while the green haired boy was looking a little pale, “I wasn’t in school anyways so I won’t be changing much. I would have just had two weeks of free time.”
After realizing the attention had switched to him, Midoriya’s hand came up to rub the back of his neck, “Um, my mom wasn’t home last night, but I texted her about it.”
Aizawa’s eyes narrowed a bit, adding the kid’s home life as something to look into, not that he wasn’t planning on it before. But just in case the boy was in a situation that needed immediate solutions. “And?” Aizawa prodded.
“S-she hasn’t gotten back to me yet, b-but I’m sure I can ask her about i-it tonight!” Izuku stammered. Aizawa hummed, but decided to let it go for now. With that, he led them to Recovery Girl’s office.
The place was empty of students, but Recovery girl was at the edge of one of the beds that looked just prepared. “Have a seat Dearies,” She called, patting the bed and pittering over to the machines next to it to do who knows what.
The kids gave each other nervous but excited glances before going over to sit side by side on the bed. Aizawa himself took a seat in the one comfy office chair by the door. He crossed his arms and pretended to fall asleep to give them a bit of privacy, but he was keeping an eye on them just in case.
“Alright, I’ll be doing some basic checkups. Most are standard for body-modification quirks, and the others are just to check your health in general so we know if theres any negative changes after your quirk,” Recovery Girl mentioned, walking them through each of the steps. Aizawa noticed the two paid attention to each others results and asked questions about recognizing signs. His lips quirked up at the sides, knowing that these two would be a hell of a hero duo. Both were compassionate, and responsible enough in this situation to understand the seriousness of messing with people’s bodies.
“Would meditation help if most of the decisions on which parts of us go where are subconscious decisions or compromises are by both of our thoughts? Like the last time, we still had my freckles, but our hair was a middle ground, or a mix of both of us,” Izuku asked, pausing in writing in his notebook. Uraraka looked a little lost, but nodded along anyways.
“It seems that when you fuse, your bond with each other links your thoughts so a construct of your fused person is created based on both of your preferences,” Recovery Girl stated. “Usually that is the case, but it may differ depending on the type of bond. We can come back to it later, but yes, meditation would help.” Izuku scribbled more things in his notebook, and Uraraka subtly leaned over to take a peek at what he was writing. She was mildly surprised to see a cute drawing of their fused form, or what he remembered them to look like. Uraraka smiled at the detailed artwork, wondering if they’d be taking art classes at UA.
“It can help with your perception of yourself, and give a clearer image of your fused appearance or details in powers,” Recovery Girl continued, wrapping up a few notes on the computer. “You’ll want to keep in contact with the school counselor for different coping mechanisms. From what I’ve heard, such link between minds can be overwhelming at times.”
The two kids nodded seriously, both internally wincing that they’d forgotten about the almost mind-reading aspect of Izuku’s quirk. Seeing that, Aizawa knew he made the right decision to train them, knowing they would look out for each other. He stood and stretched, relishing n the way Uraraka jumped at the concerning crack coming from one or two of his joints. The brown haired girl looked mildly concerned for his health, but he elected to ignore it.
“Alright, lets get to the gym before we run out of time,” Aizawa said after a wave from Recovery Girl. The two hyper kids jumped off the bed with a thank you to Recovery Girl and bounded after him. “We’ll  be taking the training lightly, just to figure out the scope of your quirk,” Aizawa said, opening the doors to the gym and letting the two in. “Recovery Girl will join us in a bit, so for now I’ll lead you through some stretches.”
“Okay!” The two called, rushing over to the sidelines to put their things away and back to where Aizawa was standing close to the middle of the room. Izuku had a worn, beat-up looking yellow backpack with a plastic water bottle and a bunch of notebooks, meanwhile, Uraraka had a small drawstring bag with snacks and water. Eyeing the yellow bag, Aizawa made yet another note to look into the green-haired kid’s homelife.
The kids were led through stretches in comfortable silence, and before they knew it Recovery Girl had arrived with her supplies. She was there to monitor their fused body’s health, and if anything went wrong she’d be able to help. Unbeknownst to the kids, a quirk like Izuku’s was rare. Body modification quirks with a mental aspect such as Izuku’s usually weren’t so extensive, and for it to alter the other person’s quirk as well? It was insanely rare.
Aizawa knew they were lucky to have the kid’s quirk start in a controlled environment, but it was worrisome. How did it take the kid 10 years for his quirk to activate? If what Recovery Girl siad before, Izuku had to have a type of bond with the person he fuses with. Did that mean the kid had no friends? Was Uraraka the only positive relationship this kid has had over the course of ten years? To say that Aizawa was concerned was an understatement. Especially if what he knew about quirkless discrimination was true. It worried him.
Unfortunately, once they started actually practicing Izuku’s quirk, he couldn’t figure out how it worked. “I- I think it works with contact, “Izuku went over again,”And the feelings Uraraka and I both share about each other… And I can feel, like, this warmth? I guess? Whenever we make contact, but..”
“You just don’t know how to activate the fusing part?” Uraraka asked, still holding onto Izuku’s left hand. She couldn’t really feel anything, but she didn’t last time either. Izuku nodded.
“Last time, I didn’t really think about it, I was just trying to pull you out of the rubble, but..” Izuku’s mutters trailed off. Uraraka started absentmindedly swinging their hands back and forth. “Maybe we have to be… doing something?”
Aizawa nodded. “Its possible that there’s a trigger for both of you to get to the fusion part. Based on usual quirk activation, it can be adrenaline, a goal, danger, or just tapping into the feeling you mentioned before. Go slow,” he said. “We have time to figure this out. Rushing will only generate mistakes.”
Izuku let out a shaky breath,” Right.”
Uraraka bit her lip. Glancing down she noticed his hands were shaking. Was he nervous? She shook her head. “I have an idea?”
Everyone turned to her, and she explained. “What if we try to do something together that requires both of us to cooperate? But something to get you relaxed!” She pointed out. Izuku rubbed the back of his neck in embarrassment. “Here. Lets just try something simple.”
She put both her hands out in front of her, waiting for Izuku to take them. Without hesitating, he lightly grasped her own. “Okay, now follow my lead.”
Izuku almost immediately stumbled when she started moving her feet forwards and back, yet keeping their hands together. “D-Dancing?” Izuku stumbled, trying to follow allong as best he can.
“Yeah!” Uraraka laughed, moving across in a different direction. Izuku followed, focusing on not stepping on her feet. Or his own. “Its something relaxing to do together, but we.. have to work as one to complete the dance! Together!”
Uraraka broke away to twirl before coming back, and Izuku laughed. He forgot about Aizawa and Recovery Girl watching them, and just swayed to whatever made up beat Uraraka was making. He couldn’t remember the last time he goofed around with someone, much less danced with them. It felt.. Nice. Really nice.
“Dip me!” Uraraka called, smiling brightly as she twirled and fell towards him. He felt a bit of panic, but his heart soared at the trust she had in him. When they made contact, he could feel the warmth surrounding them, and eventually they were enveloped in a bright light.
Aizawa squinted at the bright light, but was impressed at Uraraka’s ability to get the nervous kid to relax. He had expected learning to activate the quirk would have take all day. He blinked, looking at the significantly taller figure laughing in front of him.
“Yes!” They exclaimed, their arms up in the air. Their arms fell back down to their sides as they looked at themself in awe and relief. “I can’t believe dancing actually worked..”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Of course it would!” They said, almost like a conversation to themself. “We needed teamwork, a bond, and contact. What better than danger or dancing?” They snorted to themselves.
“Good job,” Aizawa called, and the kids froze, no doubt just remembering there were other people in the gym besides them. Their face turned red. “Have Recovery Girl check you out before trying anything else. Have you decided what you want to call yourself in this form?”
Their eyes widened, and they absently put a strand of curly dark green hair behind their ear. “Probably they/them,” They muttered, walking towards Recovery Girl’s  setup. “Maybe… Zu.. Ra? Like Zura? Ochaku?”
Aizawa sighed fondly as the kids delved into mutterings about the perfect combo of their names. They were good kids, that was for sure. He was just worried. A quirk like this was extremely rare, and might be dangerous in some cases. If what he saw at the etrance exam was what he thought, then some quirks could make a dangerous combination. Could the kid even fuse with more than one person? Aizawa shook his head, trying to get the thought of Present Mic and Midnight fused together out of his brain. This kid was definitely going to be a Problem Child.
After a minute, the kids perked up, looking back towards Aizawa. “We decided on Zura! They/them pronouns, but we don’t mind him or her either.” Aizawa nodded. Zura couldn’t stop smiling and muttering. It seemed he wouldn’t need to deal with accidental quirk use though, since apparently Uraraka’s knowledge about her own quirk control passed over.
A few minutes passed of Recovery Girl checking them over, Aizawa had Zura run through stretches again, and then a quirk assessment test. It would be almost exactly like the one he’d do for the beginning of class, but it was more personalized to Uraraka’s quirk. It seemed like Izuku’s quirk combined their strength and stamina, making it more enhanced than normal for either of them.
They found that Zura’s quirk was more like telekinesis, but with the ability to lessen or greaten an object or person’s gravity if they were in range. It was unlike Uraraka’s own quirk, who couldn’t increase gravity on something, and had a limit for how many objects she could hold in the air. It was interesting to see that two contact based quirks combined to have no contact at all. They reasoned that some things were probably canceled out, and the quirk can manifest in different ways.
About an hour in though, and Zura started to flag. Recovery Girl took their vitals again, and then they went through the steps to de-transform. Aizawa was mildly surprised when a poof of air and a comical ‘pop’ sounded, and the two kids fell apart. It was a little amusing.
“That was so cool!” Uraraka exclaimed, immediately getting to her feet. Izuku on the other hand, was shakily getting up from the ground. Alarmed, Aizawa went over and crouched in front of him.
“Are you alright?” Aizawa asked, searching the kids face for any sign of pain. He seemed okay, other than the shakiness and pale skin.
 Izuku huffed out a laugh, “y-yeah. Just.. just really tired.”
“You probably overused your quirk a bit,” Aizawa commented, helping him get situated on the floor. “Just sit here, Recovery Girl can check you over.” Izuku nodded, and he turned to Uraraka, who was watching worriedly a few steps away. “How are you feeling?”
“I feel good! Not really tired, only like I was on a run or something,” Uraraka noted. “Maybe Mido’s more tired cuz he uses more energy to keep us together.”
Aizawa tilted his head in acknowledgement, turning back to Izuku. Recovery Girl was already next to him, taking blood pressure and such. “Looks like just extreme exhaustion,” Recovery Girl said, “But I’ll make sure nothing else is bothering him.”
Izuku just groaned,” I feel like every muscle in my body is sore.”
Aizawa smiled in his creepy smile,” Well its a good thing we’re practicing now. You’ll get used to it.”
Izuku grimaced in his direction, but his eyes sparkled with determination. The rest of the time, they wet over questions about Zura, how they felt mentally, and if they could read eachother’s minds or see memories. Neither of them could access memories, but they hadn’t tried. The most significant part was that they could feel eachothers emotions, and communicate without words as one person to make Zura move and such. It was weird, describing what it felt like to be a different person. But both concluded it wasn’t a bad experience, and that the feelings of trust they had with one another kept them together.
Aizawa understood it was a difficult thing to explain, but they were both excited about it. Especially when Recovery Girl said it was unlikely for them to have any negative side effects or anything. Apparently there were built in safety precautions for Izuku’s quirk to protect the users. It was good to know.
“I think the most difficult thing is fusing, like in the beginning,” Izuku mentioned, tking a sip from his water bottle. “Theres so many different things leading up to it, like trust, contact, and then the, “Izuku went red,”dancing.”
“What about it?” Uraraka asked, mouth full of some kind of bread snack she had in her bag.
“I mean, that’s probably why I never found out about my quirk before now,” Izuku explained. “After I was diagnosed quirkless, I didn’t have any friends or bonds with anyone,” Aizawa and Recovery Girl exchanged a glance, and Izuku huffed a laugh. “You’re the first person to ever want to be my friend in like, ten years.”
Uraraka frowned, setting aside her snack. “Well. I’m glad we met,” She said seriously. “Quirk or not, you’re a wonderful friend. And you’re gonna be a great hero.”
Needless to say, Aizawa had two crying children on his hands. He then did what any normal person would do, and herded them to the lunch room to bother Lunch Rush.

!-MHA SPOILERS-!
First off, I know some people don’t ship bkdk as romantic. But hear me out.
There is TOO MUCH SHIT that’s just- it’s impossible for me to not see it!! I swear!!! Uraraka x Deku isn’t going to happen. I can tell you why! How much have we seen of Uraraka and Deku? How many instances are they fighting side by side? How many times are they causing trouble together? Barely any!! Katsuki is always there causing trouble right by Izuku’s side.
Katsuki and Izuku fight side by side, argue like a married couple, have known each other since forever, and even have a special relationship with nicknames!! Kacchan? No one else gets to call him that! When Denki tries, Kat gets mad. And honestly? I feel like when Uraraka started calling Izuku Deku and then he chose it as his hero name, I think Katsuki was pissed. Like- “uh- no. I gave you that! That’s my name for you!!”
I also believe part of the rivalry with Uraraka and Katsuki is love rivalry. I truly believe during their fight at the sports festival they were also slightly fighting over Izuku.
But when Uraraka figures out that Deku needs to focus, I appreciated that. She backed off and put her feelings aside for the better. But in a lot of anime, usually, if there’s a love interest, they’re featured in most episodes with a strong role. In the movies, Uraraka was there, but not a strong role. Katsuki is almost every event is a strong role.
I really feel the two main characters are Deku and Katsuki. Not Deku and Uraraka. Yes, we had confirmation that Uraraka likes Deku. But we’ve seen nothing about Deku liking her.
“But he blushes when Uraraka is in his face!”
Uh, yeah. He’s never hung out with girls before. He said that. So he doesn’t know what to do and gets embarrassed easily, even with the guys. He’s just an anxious ball of green fluff.
But Katsuki has been a huge part of Izuku’s life and vice versa. They literally grew based on each other. Katsuki eventually learning to let himself be saved thanks to Izuku. Izuku learning to stand up from himself and make himself stronger from Katsuki. They literally use each other to reach the top in such a perfect way.
In the beginning of the story, it was clear that their relationship was not healthy, correct. However, Katsuki apologized and explained himself during the vigilante arc and admitted to All Might that he was helping train Izuku as a form of making up for his past mistakes. A way to apologize.
If you look at even the basic dynamics of an anime with love interests, you see that Katsuki is the one that is most viewed besides Izuku. And usually, the two main characters are love interests.
My dad actually told me it couldn’t work because the childhood friend never wins, which, I laughed my ass off, so did he. But every way I see it, if there is going to be romance in this, it’s going to be bkdk.
Plus, you can find a BUNCH of hints in actual texts and translations. Such as Edgeshot using “he” as in “boyfriend”. Which, if you don’t know, Japanese people don’t usually use pronouns. They say their name if they can. They could have done “Deku is coming back” but instead they say it as if calling Deku Katsuki’s boyfriend.
So is this really a question by this point? The main characters are Izuku and Katsuki. In a romance anime, the two main characters are the love interests. Whether it turns out to be romantic or not, I guarantee you. There is just too much proof of bkdk being the main thing.
There’s no convincing me otherwise.
They better hold fucking hands at least.
A kiss on the cheek or something at most like- c’mon.

Carbon Listing 11
Wedding
First *** Previous
~~~~~~~~~~
A few months have passed, training for Izuku has gone well and his library of quirks is slowly being organized. a few he knows of and a few he just learned he had.
•••
Toshinori was nervous.
He wanted this day to be perfect, and it was finally here.
The wedding has finally arrived and the butterflies all settle.
Toshi heard a knock at the door which he went and opened. There were three people standing there two of his oldest friends Sir Nighteye and David Shield, as well as a person who he views as a sort of father figure, Grand Torino.
Seeing them calmed some of the nerves in him.
He finally took a breath, nodded and left alongside them.
He made his way to the end of the aisle and watched the progression. His goddaughter, Melissa, scattering petals as she led the Bridal procession. Right behind her were Inko’s bridesmaids, followed by the bride herself who walked next to her son. Inko was breathtaking in a snow white ball gown with what looked like wild flowers blooming from the bottom of the skirt. Next to her was their son holding a cushion with the rings in one hand, while the other held his mother’s hand. The first part of the ceremony was a blur, all he could think of was just how beautiful she looked and how happy he was.
In the reception there were several friends on both sides, along with quite a few pro heroes who Toshi knew attended as well. Because of Izuku they invited Shinso, as well as his newly adopted fathers, who happened to also be heroes as well, Eraserhead and Present Mic. An old friend and confidant of All Might’s, Nezu, was also in the crowd. Not to mention  one of the few people who he not only trusts, respects, but is also mildly terrified of, is also in attendance, that being Recovery Girl.
•••
Izuku couldn't decide what he loved more, seeing how happy his mama and papa were, or how many heroes were here and the hundreds of questions he needed to ask each one.
Which obviously led to him first looking for Shinso and his papas , meaning he has to ask a million questions to the young heroes. This however caught the attention of one of the other two children in attendance. The flower girl walked up to them and was listening along to all the questions and subsequent answers. All the same she asked her own which gave the two kids even more questions. The adults however soon found an opening and left as stealthily as possible.
"Uncle Might looks really happy." She commented not long after.
"Mama and papa do look happy don’t they?" Izuku said more to himself than the person actually posing the question, a soft smile spread across his features.
"I am Melissa by the way." The girl clasped her hands behind her back and smiled at the boys.
"Izuku." He smiled and gave a small little wave of acknowledgment.
"Shinso." The purple haired boy beside him responded and turned, having tuned out most of the conversation until that point.
"So what can we do at this party?" Melissa asked now that introductions seemed to be completely out of the way.
They decided on the only logical game any one of them could think of, hide, and seek. There were lots of places to hide in from behind the large towers of flowers and balloons. To the long tables that dinner was being served from. It was almost to easy for Izuku to find Shinso, but Melissa he didn't know well enough. Sure he could use his quirks, but that would be cheating. Instead he continued his search until he found her.
The first couple of games went just like you'd expect until another child decided to jump in.
"Deku!" A red-eyed, blonde boy came up to the three of them. "I'm bored, what are you doing?"
He only acknowledged Izuku, never once paying attention to either Melissa or Shinso.
"We were just going to start another game, if you want to join." It wasn't a question or even an offer, Izuku didn't want the interaction to go further.
He knows however the next words out of Kacchan's mouth before he said them, as he finally noticed he other two kids his age. "Name's Katsuki Bakugo and I'm going to be the next Number One Hero." He announced, pride filled the boy, as he puffed himself up.
"Really!?!" Melissa asked just as enthusiastically. "What's your quirk?"
"Explosion." Small pops shot off of his palms. "What about you?"
At the question Melissa got quiet. She shrank in on herself so much that she stepped back so she was behind Shinso and himself. Almost like she was going to run away from all of them. "I don't have one." She whispered it quietly enough that Kacchan barely heard.
Katsuki started to laugh before turning to Shinso. "You must be another lame extra like her, huh!" He taunted through a smirk and his brash laughter. "So, what is yours?"
"Brain Washing." Shin's fists balled at his sides.
"Seriously, Deku, you could do better than a villain and someone so useless." He snarked still laughing. "But then again, it's you."
"Yeah, but I'd pick them over you any day." Izuku grabbed each of their hands as he pulled them both away.
He was seething, but he knows this wasn't the time or place. Melissa was on the verge of a panic attack. While Shinso was angry for the way their newest friend was treated or probably he was triggered or even both.
"Are you okay?" He held both of her hands in his, while Shinso cursed and paced behind him.
"Mm-hm." She sniffled, tears threatening to fall. "Why are you on my side?"
"Because quirks don't define us."
"But almost everyone is like him." She sniffled.
"And they're wrong." He squeezed her hands.
"He's a bully, not everyone is like him." Shinso spoke up having calmed down a bit.
Her eyes met his before wiping her eyes and speaking again. "You don't care if I'm quirkless?"
Her voice was small but hopeful as she looked at both of them.
"Not a bit." Izuku answered as Shinso nodded his agreement.
She started to smile again, but they all decided to stay at that table, hidden in the corner a bit longer.
"I want to wear a princess dress, like your mama one day."
Izuku followed her line of sight and smiled. "But mom is in a wedding dress. You can only wear a princess dress when you’re getting married."
"We could get married then."
At this Izuku stood up and offered her his hand. She took it and Izuku gave a slight bow, then he kissed the top of her hand. "If that’s what the princess wants."
He smiled and she returned the smile before he pulled her to her feet and dragged her to the dance floor. There they danced, while in reality, it was more along the lines of dodging the grownups, but they had fun. Shinso got tired of staying alone back at the table so he eventually met them on the dance floor, where he promptly pulled both Izuku and Melissa off of it.
The rest of the night they spent mostly trying to avoid Katsuki, and for the most part they succeeded. The only time they couldn’t was when auntie Mitsuki wanted a picture of them all.
The later it got the harder it was for all of them to stay awake. The three of them ended up asleep in the corner. So at the end of the night they were all awoken  to say their goodbyes that is when Izuku made a decision.
He had slowly been going through all the quirks he had, when he discovered one he never knew of. He plucked one of the purple tulips from a vase, slowly through his fingertips and imagined the flower changing. Almost like it was being frozen and covered in glass, but in reality it was turning into a crystal. He doesn’t remember ever learning this quirk, he thinks it could be from that one time before, but he doesn’t know for sure.
He ran up to Melissa and presented the flower. "For you."
She took it and held it close. "Thank you Izuku."
She turned and walked away; he knew that no matter what she would be one of his best friends.
"What was that about little rabbit?" Toshi asked him, as his oldest friend left with his daughter.
"Melissa is a princess. And all princesses have flowers."
A big smile spread across his face as he watched his new friend leave.
•••
It wouldn’t be until two months later when they receive their wedding video that both Inko and Toshi learn more of that story.
They saw the three children in the corner, little Shinso was pacing around. While little Melissa was sitting on a chair ready to start crying, as Izuku stood in front of her.
It took a bit for all three children to finally calm down and they just sat there in happy silence watching everyone dance around. At this point the videographer got a bit closer and you could hear the conversation a bit.
"You can only wear a princess dress when you’re getting married." They heard Izuku say.
"We could get married then." Came the voice of little Melissa.
At this Izuku stood up and offered his hand and when Melissa took it he placed a kiss on top of hers.
"If that’s what the princess wants." They only heard his answer but knew he had the biggest smile.
Izuku took that opportunity to pull her to her feet and took her to the dance floor out of the line of sight of the camera.
Were they going to use this as a little bit of blackmail in the future. Yes.
But in that moment, they knew they raised a good little boy. And he would grow to be an even better man and hero.
~~~~~~~~~~
Of course Mitsuki had to design not only Inko's dress but also Toshinori's and Izuku's suits

Ed “Sketch” Analysis Part 3: Midoriya Izuku and Bakugou Katsuki
English Translation: https://youtu.be/vcjRuKHrrBI
Warning: Contains future season 6 episode & manga spoilers
Note: 00:00-1:31= Kacchan, 1:39-2:49=Deku, and 2:50-3:50=Both
“‘Wishing for another heart’ don’t say something so sad. Just like you can’t see your face, you need a mirror to reflect your heart. So please...”
This could potentially be some clever foreshadowing for the current chapters where Katsuki is literally getting a new heart. Seeing Katsuki’s body shook Izuku to the core, and made him suppress his emotions to the max in order to cope. He was supposed to be there by Katsuki’s side, but he couldn’t because of an unfortunate situation outside of his control, and the worst happened as a result. Also, Izuku always covers his face when in peril (vigilante arc, black whip mouth cover) hence the ‘you can’t see your face’ line.
The last thing in Katsuki’s thoughts were his regrets about Izuku, and how he could never hold his hand. He would gladly die in order to protect him, but his death was indeed for nothing since Shigaraki still lives and is more dangerous than ever. However, he will indeed be getting the second chance he always wanted, and all of his wishes may end up coming true thanks to Edgeshot becoming a new heart for him. He may now have an opportunity to not only save Izuku and help him defeat the villain, but tell him his true feelings, so they can become closer than ever before. In what way? Only time will tell.
“Don’t disappear on me, you too. We made carefree promises as we punched each other on the shoulder although one of us always failed to keep up our end.”
In the end, they both acknowledge the errors they made with their communication over the years. However, they do not want their bond to end, and instead want to do whatever they can to make it stronger, so they never split-up again.
“But love is about enveloping what we take for granted.”
Key words: Love, envelop
Love? As in, romantic love!? There is nothing about friendship stated in this song, yet love is very clearly stated. Perhaps after they confess to each other and there is no longer any confusion, the two of them will become close to the point there bond surpasses friendship and turns into love? (one can dream, but it that’s what this seems to be saying).
Envelop= Wrap up, cover, or surround completely.
This is about them embracing everything about each other including their flaws, and learning to learn each other (and themselves) for who they are. Their doubts and insecurities will no longer hinder them, because they will no longer run away from each other, and will be by each others sides for the rest of their lives no matter how difficult things may get along the way, because they have already been through bad things before and made it through them because they were together. They fall in love, because they complete each other in a way no one else can, since nobody else knows either of them as well.
“It looks more like I’m more likely to give you my sketch of you. It might surprise you a little. But, see this is how beautiful your smiles are.”
Could ‘sketch’ possibly be a metaphor for a love confession!? The entire song is about repressed emotions, so it would make sense if this was about revealing true feelings to someone else. Neither Izuku or Katsuki would expect a love confession from the other after everything they’ve been through, so it would indeed be a surprise, especially for Izuku who has been pining the longest. If there’s a confession, Katuski would have to confess first, because Izuku is repressing his emotions to an unhealthy degree right now and would rather die than be honest about his feelings, but Katsuki will have the perfect window of opportunity when he comes back to life.

Sparring
Warnings: violence, this is an extra from my longer fantasy au fic (the servant), so there may or may no be spoilers. Takes place ~Ch 17
“If you’re going to hit me, you’ll have to do better than that, Deku.”
Izuku had learned to hate everything that came out of Katsuki’s mouth while they sparred. “You’ll have to do better than that” was far and away his least favorite phrase. And the northman loved hurling it at him… probably because he got such expressive reactions from the typically quiet imperial.
“Kacchan! You—!” Izuku had to bite his tongue or he’d say something he’d regret. He could feel the heat of embarrassment burn his cheeks, lighting his whole face up. His hands shook where they gripped the practice sword, squeezing so tightly that the wood would probably leave impressions on his palms.
“Yes? Me?” Katsuki prompted, swinging in to goad him again. The smug grin on his mouth had Izuku scrambling, trying to come up with any means to wipe it off. “You were saying…?”
Izuku brought his wooden sword down hard in an overhead strike. Katsuki countered it easily, catching the attack at an angle and letting it glance off to the side. Never one to waste an opportunity, he used his momentum to slide in close and pinch Izuku’s waist with his free hand.
“Ack!” Izuku twisted away, but by the time he righted himself, Katsuki was already several paces away. “Y-you just…!”
“Uh oh. Here I come, better wake up!” Katsuki’s tone was over the top, beyond infuriating. It had Izuku seeing red, almost making it possible to forget what the northman had just gotten away with.
Izuku cursed the man silently. As always, the sentiment remained locked behind his teeth. Even in the heat of the moment, he couldn’t bring himself to tell Katsuki what he really thought of him. Biting his lip, he increased the fury of his movements instead.
“Cross swing, coming at ya.” Katsuki had the audacity to warn him a second before he moved, and still Izuku was scrambling into position to block. “Barely made that in time.”
“Don’t talk down to me,” Izuku hissed, ignoring the way numbness reverberated up his arms as they absorbed the blow.
“What was that?” Katsuki wondered. The smirk on his face widened as he caught his foot on Izuku’s instep, knocking him off balance with a jerk of his leg. When Izuku careened, he took another opportunity to pinch his thigh.
“Quit!” Izuku scrambled back upright, shooting the northman an indignant look.
“You wanted training,” Katsuki replied with a shrug. “This is how I train.”
“Do you have to touch me?!”
Katsuki chose silence this time, shrugging once more. The grin on his face widened predatorily.
Izuku drove him back with a cross cut of his own, which on top of earning him some much needed space, won a laugh from Katsuki as well. “Very good. You might even hit me one of these days.”
“…bastard!” Izuku mouthed, ducking his head. He wasn’t sure if the other saw his lapse of control, but then they were too busy fighting to pay much attention to anything.
As always, Katsuki was unfairly skilled. He continued to dance seamlessly around Izuku, making a fool of the imperial by blocking him at every turn. To add salt to the wound, with each strike he helped himself to a free pinch of Izuku’s flesh. His waist, his thigh, the back of his arm, even his round cheek—no part of him was safe.
“S-stop!” he cried out after narrowly avoiding Katsuki’s attempt to nab his backside.
“Make me,” came the breezy reply.
Just once. I’m going to hit him and he’s not going to see it coming.That thought had a sobering effect, cutting through the fog of anger. He was suddenly able to concentrate. Okay… but how?
If he focused on the sword in Katsuki’s hands, his reactions came too late. Izuku knew this, but he still couldn’t help it, the motion drawing his eye every time. He understood the fundamentals, that he needed to keep his gaze on Katsuki’s torso. Any attack originated there—a kick, a strike, a block… they would all start at the other man’s core.
The problem was, if Izuku hooked his attention there, he would risk allowing one of the northman’s strikes in. He lacked the skill to block an attack just from seeing it in his periphery, and one from Katsuki would undoubtedly hurt, even if it was only a practice sword.
Still, it could be worth the effort.
Izuku waited until the right moment, focusing so intently on Katsuki’s chest that the corners of his vision started to narrow. When he drew back to land a quick strike, Izuku jumped in with a surprise attack, shifting his blade to his off-hand.
Izuku had never punched anyone in the face before.
It was quite satisfying, but also, unexpectedly horrifying.
“I’m sor—!” he blurted on instinct as Katsuki’s head snapped back. The apology was lost to his own grunt as the northman’s blunt sword caught him hard in his side. They each staggered a few steps away from each other, Izuku clutching his ribs, Katsuki nursing a bloody nose.
Laughter erupted from the three witnessing the brawl.
“Get him, Zuzu!” Mina shouted. “That had to hurt!”
Eijiro chuckled. “Gotta watch those fists, man!”
“And to think I was going to leave!” Denki was nearly doubled over, grabbing his stomach. “All this flirting… so unbearable. Glad I stuck around to see that!”
“Shut up, idiots!” Katsuki snapped, his command lacking both heat and authority. The other northerners just laughed louder. As he wiped his nose with his thumb, he shot Izuku a measuring look. “Lucky shot.”
“If it’s so lucky, then come and try again,” Izuku challenged, feeling emboldened.
“You land one hit, and you’re already a little general, marching off to war.” Katsuki grinned, spitting the last of the blood onto the ground. “Well, let’s go then.”
Izuku kept his gaze pinned on Katsuki, pulling up his sword as they resumed. It was the only reason he witnessed a flash of something in those crimson eyes… something like pride.
/end
Got a few requests for Katsuki to get punched in the face! I’m going to make some of these as we go—they’re good warm ups. Side note: i just finished the next rhapsody update (10k and it is soooo angsty). I needed this refresher, I hope you enjoyed!

Note
A borrower/shrunk au. Afo meets borrower Inko, pretending to be a borrower like her they fall on love and bave Izuku. When Inko finds out she tries to escape but its caught by afo who keeps them close(pocked family!). They end up escaping after the fight with All might and living on UA on secret. Izuku has a quirk and a Brotherly bond with Timura. Or a au where a quirkless,moraly grey, villain Izuku gets shrunken people from his father as pets instead od them getting killed(kacchan,hitoshi...)
- Afo was thankful to his habit (not obsession) with collecting rare quirks. You never knew when you might need one.
- like when your almost corner of an old Yakuza strong hold that you didn't know was still some what active when you were searching for possible safe houses.
- on most days he would just kill anyone in his path but he was exhausted, physically and mentally.
- after two hundred years of ruling the underground and killing his brothers numerous successors, can really drain a person.
- sometimes it felt like he forgot why he was fighting for and was only doing "crimes" as something to do.
- so instead he shrunk down and hide in a crack in the wall.
- gigantic quirks were so common these days, but shrinking quirks? There was only twelve on record in the last two hundred years. A real steal.
- as soon as his unwelcome visitors left Afo turned around to see if he could find a way outside, when he saw entire miniature pulley systems and stairs made out of household items.
- out of curiosity he followed them.
- and eventually ran into a young woman no taller than four inches brandishing a sewing needle like a sword.
- he explained vaguely what happened convinently leaving out using a quirk to shrink down, and the woman who introduced herself as Inko invited him to stay with her.
- so he did.
- it was enlightening, with Inko he felt like he had found his purpose again, why he was doing everything he did, it was for love.
- at first for the love of his brother, and when his brother passed slowly he had forgotten what drove him.
- but now he feels it again deep within his sternum. Which motivates him to confess to Inko after months of staying in her tiny home and learning her world.
- and she accepted him.
- they had blissful year together before a miracle was welcomed into their life in the form of their son Izuku.
- but he realized how fragile this happiness was.
- Inko had told him how she had lost all five of her family members to either accidents or larger people/creatures.
- and he knew he had to safeguard them.
- so deep in the night when his family was asleep Afo snuck away and prepared to take his family home.
- he made a fully functional dollhouse if you would, though the thing was more akin to a mansion. It had electricity, running water, heat and air conditioning.
- anything a tiny family would need.
- and best of all he put the house under the effect of a quirk that trapped anything he put inside, except for himself of course.
- it was better than a vault.
- he would return to his pocket family each morning before they woke until it was finished, but when it was perfect he put them into a deep sleep and brought them to their new home.
- when Inko awoke and listened to her partners explanation she was furious and tried to leave but physically couldn't.
- she sobbed her eyes out and as much as that hurt Afo he knew it was for the best.
- Inko could be angry with him all she wants but she and their son were safe...

Courting & Coupons by s_the_queen
Summary: Izuku's stomach turned over. He had told himself a thousand times that this was it. That the next time Kacchan started nesting, he'd shoot his shot. They were third years, and Kacchan was easily his best friend. He was also the love of his life. Every time Kacchan hit pre-heat, courting gifts would flood the dorms and Izuku would watch in terror as Kacchan inspected each one and then crumple in relief when he turned them down.
He couldn't wait on the sidelines anymore and wonder if Kacchan would accept him. He had to try, or else he'd miss his chance and regret it for the rest of his life.

Katsuki clicks her tongue, and he cuts himself off. He watches her intently as she stands, dusting herself off and brushing her hands together before she holds one out to him.
"We're rivals, dumbass."
There's something about his resigned expression that makes her belly flutter nervously, as it always does when he's around. It feels foreboding, like seeing the body of a cyclone in the distance.
For the first time, Katsuki feels as though she's cemented the fact that Deku won't be in her future— not in the way that she's always expected him to. That everyone— Uraraka and Todoroki— were right to make her question her relationship.
That she /has/ irrevocably ruined her relationship, without even realizing it.

Learning to Nest by O_oari
Summary: Katsuki was stressed. He knew exactly why he was stressed but he didn't know how to fix it. All week he has been trying to build a shitty nest just like any other Omega would do. Everyone told him it would come naturally and he would ‘just know’ but he didn't! Most Omegas learned how to nest from their parents but Katsuki had a Mother Alpha and a Beta Father. Neither of them knew how to nest so Katsuki was never taught.
Katsuki picked himself up and walked to the only person he knew might be able to help. He was an Alpha and probably knew Jack Shit about nest building but it couldn't be any worse than Katsukis attempts.

“but I thought about how I needed to say this”
a.k.a. yet another meta dissection of The Apology. I actually wrote most of this up on Friday night based on the original Japanese (@pikahlua has an excellent translation up here, and I also used @hanashimas’ translations as a reference as well), but I wanted to wait until the official release, though that turned out to be a mixed bag to say the least lol.
I would also recommend reading @pikahlua and @class1akids’ breakdowns of this scene (here and here, respectively), because they are excellent, and because if any scene deserves to have as many meta breakdowns written about it as possible, it’s this one.
anyway so here goes.
Tumblr media
Caleb did a more accurate job with this than the fanscan, even if he did try his best to take us out of the seriousness of the moment by throwing in that swiss cheese line lol. anyway so there are two things I want to talk about here. the first is the line about Izuku not remembering, which I thought was a nice touch. of course he doesn’t remember what Kacchan said back then. he wasn’t exactly in the soundest emotional state after seeing one of the people he cares about most taking a near-fatal blow that was meant for him. I’d be shocked if he remembers anything about the aftermath (including the way he flew into a mindless rage afterwards) right up until the point when he entered the OFA Interstellar Party Void with Tomura. anyway, so I thought that was a nice callback.
and speaking of emotional states, the other thing I wanted to talk about is the part that Caleb got right which the fan scanlation didn’t. “but I had more to say.” in other words, “stop trying to win on your own” wasn’t just a one-liner; it was meant to be the beginning of a much longer speech. “there were other things that I needed to say.”
like, can we just stop and talk about that for a second. because basically what this means is that in that instant, when Kacchan pushed Deku out of the way and got impaled, his one and only thought was that he needed to apologize to Deku. his life was presumably flashing before his eyes, he had no idea if he was going to survive or not, and the only thing on his mind was how urgently he needed to make things right with his former childhood friend.
moving on!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
so I have a confession to make, which is that I am relieved to see Katsuki describing this as the reason why he bullied Deku, as opposed to Horikoshi trying to retcon it into some sort of “secretly he was just trying to protect him and keep him out of harm’s way because he was worried” thing, which ngl would not have gelled very well with me. the thing is that I’m really not a fan of the whole “Kacchan Did Nothing Wrong” mentality that some fans seem to have. like, I have seen all sorts of convoluted attempts to find excuses for Katsuki’s shitty behavior, but in my view those attempts undermine what I love about his character in the first place. Katsuki is such a great character specifically because he is not perfect. his redemption arc is so compelling because he was such a giant asshole at the start. he was completely at fault, and he acknowledges this, and takes full responsibility for it. and that is fucking fantastic.
his arc is so great because it doesn’t rely on garnering sympathy by giving him a Tragic Past, or by trying to foist the blame for his behavior over on someone else. it’s an arc that acknowledges that redemption isn’t something you achieve by making people feel sorry for you; it’s something you have to earn by actively working to change and do better. and by forgoing the “misunderstood/tragic past” route, Horikoshi is making a statement that anyone can go down the wrong path, but that more importantly, anyone can also choose at any time to turn away from said path. there is only one requirement for doing so, and that is realizing that you’ve done wrong, and deciding that you want to change.
anyway, so in chapter 284 Kacchan of course had that whole speech about Deku not taking himself into account, and mentioned how that made him want to keep his distance. and a good chunk of fandom took this to mean that Katsuki’s bullying was actually a misguided response to Deku’s reckless tendencies -- sort of an “if I show him how weak and powerless he really is, I can get him to accept the reality that he’s quirkless, and that being a hero will just get him hurt or killed” type of thing. and I won’t lie, for a good while I was wondering myself if Horikoshi was really going to go down that route. and like I said, I am honestly relieved that he didn’t. not only for the reasons stated in the previous paragraph, but also because the message that would have sent -- that there are certain circumstances in which bullying can almost be excused because the bully had Good Intentions and was just trying to save the other person from themselves, and so it Wasn’t That Bad, Actually -- is all kinds of fucked up to say the least. so yeah, I’m glad we ended up steering well clear of that.
(ETA: this post was long enough already so I edited out the 3 additional paragraphs I originally wrote analyzing the dialogue from 284. but just to be clear, I’m not trying to imply that Kacchan worrying about Deku’s recklessness is a retconned thing that Horikoshi only threw into the story recently, because there are multiple instances throughout the story where he clearly is worried and in total denial of it. but I firmly believe those feelings are not what led to the bullying. they’re two separate things. Kacchan worrying about Deku is what prompts him to yell at him in chapter 1 when Deku comes to save him. but it’s not what incited him to burn his notebook and taunt him earlier in that same chapter. that action had a much meaner and more selfish motivation behind it, and I’m glad Horikoshi didn’t try to change it up last minute, because it wouldn’t have felt right.)
thankfully as of this chapter I think we can safely cross that out as a possibility, as we’re given the true explanation straight from Katsuki himself. and the truth is that he bullied Deku out of insecurity and jealousy and fear and intolerance. there was nothing noble about it. there were no good intentions concealed in his actions. there are no justifications given, no excuses offered, and no mitigating circumstances to be considered, other than the fact (which neither he nor Horikoshi bring up) that he was and is still a child, and that children make mistakes.
it’s an explanation that challenges many of fandom’s ideas on who is and isn’t eligible to be redeemed. there is no Ozai in Katsuki’s backstory. there’s no great tragedy that he spent a lifetime trying to rise above. the only villain in Katsuki’s story is Katsuki himself. the only darkness that he has to overcome is his own. and it’s challenging, because I think many people believe the only way someone can be redeemed for doing bad things is if bad things happen to them in return. but what Horikoshi is saying here is that that’s not the case. bad doesn’t erase bad. and the one and only way to truly earn redemption is by doing good.
and that’s what makes this such a phenomenal scene for me. by not shying away from Katsuki’s flaws and failings, and having him take full responsibility for them, Horikoshi keeps the apology from being self-serving, and underscores the true depth of Katsuki’s character development. the level of self-awareness he has here is something most people can only dream of. which is very fitting, as that’s perhaps the most important takeaway from his character arc -- that it’s only by acknowledging your own weaknesses and flaws that you can learn to overcome them and reach your full potential.
one last thing to point out here, which is that in the panel where Katsuki finally acknowledges his terrible treatment of Deku, Deku is not even visible. instead, Horikoshi drew the panel from a perspective that makes it appear that Katsuki is addressing this particular line not just to Deku, but to all of his classmates.
Tumblr media
again, he shows him taking full responsibility and admitting his wrongdoings in front of the people whose opinions and approval he cares about most. and just to clarify in case there’s any confusion from Caleb’s translation, Kacchan’s wording makes it very clear that he wasn’t just “mean” to Deku, but that he full-on bullied him (he uses the same verb -- “ijimeru” (苛める) -- that he did back in chapter 284). there’s no attempt to downplay his actions here.
Tumblr media
moving on now, this chapter also reaffirmed another thing about Deku and Kacchan’s relationship which I was glad to see revisited -- Kacchan’s unwavering belief in Deku’s ability. this is one of those paradoxical things about their relationship which I’ve always been fascinated by, but which is also kind of hard to explain, because I don’t want it to come off like I’m trying to put a positive spin on something which was unequivocally awful. like, please don’t think I’m trying to say that Katsuki’s bullying of Deku was in any way a good thing. but that being said, there’s also a strange irony at play here, which is that Katsuki’s jealousy and insecurity also betray the fact that even at his very worst, he never once underestimated Deku. he has always believed in Deku’s strength, even when that strength pissed him off and made him afraid and uneasy.
no one else -- not All Might, or even Deku’s own mom -- believed from the get-go that Deku could become a hero. but Katsuki never once counted him out, even when he was calling him a pebble in his shoe. he confesses here that even though he “tried to act superior by rejecting [Deku]”, in truth he was never able to shake the feeling that Deku was above him. long before he ever understood the concept of “win to save”, he knew instinctively that there was a strength in Deku’s heart that couldn’t be measured, and which had the potential to surpass even his own strength. and I’ve always felt that this was so important, because it’s the one aspect of their early relationship that hinted that on some level, however subconscious, Katsuki held the same type of faith in Deku that Deku always held in him. it was one of the few things that hinted at there being a possible path towards reconciliation one day. and it paved the way for the most important shift in their relationship to date, when Katsuki finally realized who Deku got his quirk from, and responded not with resentment or spite, but with acceptance.
moving on, I also really love the way we see them portrayed at the different stages of their childhood throughout this speech, and how it perfectly lines up with the dialogue. from small children (when Katsuki talks about his insecurities first manifesting), to middle schoolers (when he talks about the bullying), to high schoolers (when he talks about the past year and everything he’s learned at U.A.). Horikoshi really didn’t have to go that hard, but he did, and that’s why we love him.
and then we finally get to That Part.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
where do I even start with this there are so many things omg.
the bow. this is the one and only time Katsuki has ever bowed to anyone of his own volition as far as I recall. and this absolutely is a bow, just to be clear, even though his form is straight-up garbage (very Kacchan-esque, with his feet and arms spaced apart because he’s still a punk after all). this is Kacchan showing more humility and respect than he’s ever shown to anyone else in his entire life.
regarding “Izuku”, I actually have mixed feelings about this to tell the truth. I think it was a good call here because it was incredibly effective in setting the tone and showing just how serious Kacchan is. however if he continues to use “Izuku” rather than “Deku” from here on out, that would give the impression in hindsight that all his past usage of “Deku” really was meant as an insult, which would undermine some of my favorite scenes. I would really like to believe that since DvK2 or thereabouts, Kacchan has (mostly) been using “Deku (affectionate)” rather than “Deku (useless loser)”, lol. but if he switches to the “nicer” name on a permanent basis following his apology, it implies that the previous nickname was indeed being used cruelly. and so honestly I hope this was just a one-time thing, because I do think that in Katsuki’s mind, the name “Deku” hasn’t been meant as a slight to him for a long time now.
“my truth/this is what I truly feel” -- the word Katsuki uses in Japanese is honne (本音), and if you’re familiar with the concept of honne/tatemae, that’s the same “honne” he’s talking about here. it means that he’s casting aside all of his walls and facades and expressing what he truly feels. and of course, one of the fascinating things about Katsuki’s character is that he’s the exact opposite of most people in that he chooses to put his meanness on full display to the public, and ironically it’s the kindest parts of himself which he tends to keep the most carefully guarded and hidden away. this also means that while his rage and anger are very often insincere and put on just for show, those relatively few occasions where he lets his humanity truly shine through are pretty much 100% genuine, as is the case with this one here.
and Deku’s face says it all when it comes to how powerful those moments can be as a result.
Tumblr media
and this, right here, is why it wasn’t enough for Katsuki to atone solely through his actions, and why he needed to actually say the words as well. it’s not that the words are more important; obviously the actions are far and away the most important part, and carry far more meaning. but the reason why Katsuki needed to say the words as well is simply because Izuku needed to hear them. needed to, and deserved to, because this is one of the most important people in the world to him.
and so he deserves to know that the relationship isn’t just one-sided, and that he is just as important to Kacchan as Kacchan is to him. he deserves to know that Kacchan understands how horribly he treated him, and that he’s sorry for it. and he deserves to know that Kacchan, without any expectation of it changing their relationship -- meaning that he will continue to feel this way regardless of what Izuku says or does from here on out -- cares about him. now more than ever, with AFO out there doing everything in his power to make Izuku feel as alone as possible, this is something that he really, really needed to hear.
Tumblr media
so this part has some interesting wordplay which neither Caleb’s translation nor the fan scanlation was really able to get across. basically, in the Japanese version, when Katsuki talks about “those ideals”, Horikoshi uses the kanji for “ideal”, but pronounces it as “All Might.” obviously the meaning of this isn’t too hard to decipher, as we all know how much both boys admire All Might. to them, he absolutely is synonymous with the Ideal. so this is a way of showing that respect they both have towards him, even as Katsuki goes on to point out the one fatal flaw that All Might was never able to overcome.
and speaking of interesting wording, as others have noted, at this point in his speech Katsuki switches from “temee” (which he was using earlier during the “your strengths and my weaknesses” part) to “omae” (“omae” being a less insulting word for “you”, though still very manly and tough-sounding), which is definitely a big deal. though fwiw this is not the first time he’s used “omae” for Deku (he switches to it briefly right after DvK2, when he tells Deku “you had the strongest guy lay the groundwork for you -- don’t lose”, and then later when they’re walking back to the dorms and he says he’ll learn and get stronger by watching everyone around him just like Deku did). it’s definitely a good choice on Horikoshi’s part though, as it makes this last part of the speech sound more earnest and sincere.
Tumblr media
just a quick note, he does indeed use a plural pronoun here, as in “the obstacles that you can’t overcome, we will overcome.” but as @pikahlua pointed out, the “we” here is ambiguous -- it could either mean “we” as in class 1-A -- “we will overcome them for you” -- OR it could mean “we” as in all of them -- class 1-A and Deku. “we will overcome them together.” idk about you, but I know which one gets my vote.
anyway, and so this is the line that finally wins Deku over and allows him to let go of his fears, however briefly. what I love about this is Kacchan’s utter conviction. one thing that Caleb’s translation doesn’t quite get across is Kacchan’s use of the word morenaku -- “without exception” -- when he talks about how they’re going to save everyone and win. it echoes that same sentiment he showed back during the Joint Training arc -- that it’s not a perfect victory unless they save everyone. every last person. and he explicitly lists Deku among their number, just so there can be no doubt.
and Deku’s response to this (or at least his thoughts, since he’s not really able to get many words out) pretty much brings everything full circle here.
Tumblr media
he acknowledges that everyone else has gotten ahead of him. which is especially meaningful given who he’s standing directly across from. because for most of the series, as we all well know, it’s been Kacchan who was woefully lagging behind Deku in the character growth department. but now Deku himself is acknowledging that not only has Kacchan finally caught up at last, but that he and the others have surpassed him. which is only temporary, I should add, as I have zero doubt that Deku will catch up again soon. but the fact remains that just as Deku’s rapid increase in strength and skill left Kacchan scrambling to keep up earlier in the series, Kacchan’s extraordinary character development has now left Deku in that same position. as All Might once put it, “when he’s starting at level one, and you’re already at level 50, it’s only natural that you’ll be growing at different rates.”
and what’s so wonderful about this though is that the two of them are finally approaching that point where they’ve both caught up to each other and are finally starting to level out. Deku is a full-on badass, and Kacchan is out here talk-no-jutsuing with the best of them. the two of them have been chasing and chasing after each other this entire time, and now they’re finally just about ready to meet in the middle at long last, with each of them fully embodying both of those two crucial aspects -- win, and save.
just about. because Deku still needs some help catching up. but seeing as help has already been offered -- and accepted -- I can’t imagine it will be very long now, and I can’t wait to see him finally overcoming those fears and doubts with his friends by his side. it’s going to be such a powerful moment.
and last but not least,
Tumblr media
or, as I prefer,
Tumblr media
you had one job, Caleb. flkjsdlk.
but at least this provides a good opportunity to note that unlike the “we’ll help you handle it” line earlier in the speech, here the phrasing is left up to interpretation, as he doesn’t use a pronoun. so it could be “we know”, or, as the fan scanlation put it, “I know.” or it could be both. regardless, it’s good stuff.
anyway, and so Deku passes out, and in the process Horikoshi gives us one last parting metaphor, just in case anyone still thinks Kacchan is all talk because they haven’t been paying attention for the past 322 chapters (more likely than you think). once again, Katsuki’s actions speak louder than his words (even his nice words) ever could: he is literally there to catch Deku when he falls.
so that’s it! my sincere thanks to anyone who actually read through all of my endless ramblings about this scene which I have been waiting for since day one. props to Horikoshi for taking on an impossibly difficult task, and pulling it off with all of the emotion and care and nuance that I’ve come to expect from his writing. imo he delivered on every single level with the exception of the aftermath, which I don’t consider to have actually happened yet. Deku’s part of this is definitely a “to be continued.” but yeah, as far as Kacchan’s part goes, 10/10. so fucking proud of this kid.

Naga! BakuDekuShoto X (fem)Mermaid!Reader
Part 2. Here
Y/n is warned to never go near the surface by her pod. She's been going near the surface every night and very early at dawn, sunrise to relax, sing, watch the sunset. Being a mermaid had its many blessing and curses. They were creatures of great beauty and magic, from their beautiful voices to the powerful magic in just a single tear. So naturally, they were secretive creatures.
A great lake deep in the forest of Atigus, a large pod of Merpeople lived in this lake. A lake so deep it could have been mistaken for the deepest part of the ocean. Living so far down in the deeps, they were a bit isolated from the many magical and grand creatures that also inhabit the forest.
Yet Y/n was a curious individual and would swim near the surface, in hopes of seeing another creature. Thought she was smart enough to know that there is one creature that she must avoid at all costs, Man. Yet She would brave the bright surface, and sing out to no one in particular.
One day as she ventured to the surface at sunset, she began to sing into the wind. As she rested on the lake's edge, she suddenly felt a painful sting on her shoulder. Y/n gasped in pain, but her body became so heavy suddenly and lost all control. As she laid there motionless, as she heard the snicker and the strange language of humans.
The humans quickly slumped the unconscious mermaid onto their backs and tried to find their way back to the village. Yet as they walked down the path, they could feel predatory eyes watching them.
As one of the humans looked around, they noticed that special markings were etched into the tree's around them.
"Oh no, we have walked into Naga territory," one of the humans gasped in horror.
As the two trembled, a large shadow engulfed them. The tallest stood up to 9 feet in height, standing above them, while the shortest stood 7 feet. They couldn't begin to fathom how long these nagas could be. These giants glared down at the small humans that had invaded their territory.
Dealing with the humans was simple, yet something did catch one of their eyes. The smaller green naga noticed the abandoned creature on the ground.
"What is that?" The freckled naga wondered.
"It looks like to be a humanoid creature like us," a red and white naga commented as he leaned over the mermaid.
"Yet, it's not. Its scales look strange and its tail is so short, it's the same size as those pathetic humans," The ashy blond Naga scoffed as he picked the mer by her tail.
"K-kacchan! Careful," the green-haired naga gasped.
"Why does it look like part fish?" The red and white naga asked, " You should be careful, Bakugo."
"Whatever, Deku," Bakugo scoffed, as he tossed the body over to green Naga.
"Nice catch Midoriya," The red and white naga commented.
"Thanks, Shoto," Izuku sighed as he got a closer look at the creature.
"So what do you think it is?" Shoto asked.
" It must be some water-faring creature, other than that I'm not sure," Izuku said as he held the mermaid close. " It would be nice to speak to her about it. Maybe I could hold onto her, F-for a  little while."
"Why?" Shoto asked.
"Probably cause this will be the only female that can't walk out on him for better a mate," Bakugo commented.
"I think you may be projecting a little, Bakugo," Shoto commented.
Bakugo scoffed and slithered off somewhere else, as Izuku and Shoto stood in awkward silence.
"S-so does that mean I can? N-Not for the reason that he said!" Izuku said quickly.
"I'd... Certainly hope not," Shoto said simply.
_________________________
As Y/n slowly came to her senses, she could feel something odd. As she slowly opened her eyes, she noticed that this body of water was barely deep. Plus something was wrapped around her, it felt strange.
She slowly opened her eyes, to see that the surface of the water was just a foot above her head. And wrapped around her waist was a tail, a snake tail. Y/n tensed slightly, but the creature felt her movement and quickly tightened its hold.
She was suddenly pulled up above the surface and was face to face with a freckly face with forest green eyes.  His eyes were full of wonder and curiosity as he inspected Y/n very closely.
Y/n wanted to scream, yet remained frozen. Not only was she unsure of this creature, but also intimidated by its great size. She never felt so small and helpless.
"what are you? And who are you?" Deku asked as he muttered other questions.
"A-a mermaid, my name is Y/n," Y/n squeaked nervesly.
"Ah, like an Oceanid," Izuku smiled." I-i have to write this down, I have so many questions."
As his tail wraps more around Y/n, she watches as the snake man turns to gather his parchment paper. They were covered in writings and notes about almost anything. Before Y/n could get a grasp of what was happening, she was drowned in the naga's curious questions. He must have not been paying too much attention as he tightened his hold.
"C-can't...Breath," Y/n whimpered as she passed out.
------------- Deku suddenly felt Y/n go slack, he stopped rambling and quickly looked at her.
"AHh! Y/n," Izuku gasped as he quickly placed her back in the small watering hole.
"Oi, killed it already," Bakugo laughed mockingly.
"N-no, Y/n passed out," Izuku said nervesly.
"So what is she?" Shoto asked as he tried to get a better look.
"An Oceanid, but she calls herself a mermaid," Izuku said as he put down his notes.
"Hmm, well what were those humans doing with one?" Shoto asked.
"Probably harvest her for magical properties. If they can't possess magic on their own, then they will take it," Bakugo scoffed simply.
"Well, I'm glad we came across those humans then," Izuku said with a relieved sigh.
___________
After a couple of weeks, Y/n grew used to Izuku and his curiosity. She would learn many things about him, that he was defiantly a curious Naga and a very emotional one. Will cry a river at any strong emotion he feels. Y/n could only hope that this small pool of water was not his tears. She would learn a bit about his other two companions.
Bakugo is the most prideful and skilled of the three. Always going off how he will be the best and rise the ranks among their kind. Shoto on the other hand seemed very calm out of the three. Almost to the point where he seemed indifferent about everything, though he takes everything very seriously.
Izuku would also learn a lot about her and her home in the great lake. How they knew many great magical treasures and plants within Atigus. It was just so fascinating to him, and it felt so nice to have someone discuss the magical phenomena with him.
As Y/n rested in Izuku's coils, a question came to mind.
"Hey Izuku, you've been so sad as of late. What is making you so sad?" Y/n asked.
"Um, it's a little embarring to talk about, but... The season of union is coming to an end soon. And during this time Nagas begin to pair and bond, and we bond for life. Sadly a girl I had my heart set in already bonded with someone else. So I may just end up being unpair," Izuku explained.
"What about Bakugo and Shoto?" Y/n asked.
"Well, most are annoyed or frightened by him, and would rather stay far away from him. And Shoto, has a bit of a hard time, umm, connecting to others," Izuku said slowly and awkwardly.
"Oh, well I'm sorry to hear that. I can't see why you would not find someone. Your sweet and so kind," Y/n smiled as she rested her harms on his coils.
Izuku's face turned a bright red as his tail tightened slightly. His heart fluttered in his chest as he stared down at his Oceanid friend.
"Y-you really think so?" Izuku mumbled, as his eyes watered.
"Despite your timid nature, you are willing to help though in need. Even if they may not deserve it," Y/n smiled up at him.
"Thank You Y/n," Izuku thanked as he cried waterfalls as hugged Y/n closely.
"Though you can be a bit of a cry baby," Y/n winced as she was drenched in tears.
But he didn't hear the last comment as he hugged her close.
----------------
"Shouldn't you be returning Y/n to the great lake, Surely she would like to return to her home and family," Izuku's friend Iida asked.
As the two patrolled the large Naga territory. Izuku's heart began to thump in his chest in a panic at the thought. The thought had many times came across his mind, but the thought of parting with her. Tore his heart apart.
-----------------
"Oh, you're still here?" Shoto asked as he entered the cave.
"Umm, have been for this past Month Shoto," Y/n said as she poked her head above the water.
"Izuku must hold you dearly if he hasn't returned you home yet," Shoto said as he found a comfy spot and laid down.
"Y-you think so?" Y/n asked nervesly.
"Hmm, don't you miss your family? I'm surprised you haven't asked him to return you," Shoto commented.
As Y/n studied him, she could feel something about those words. Like it wasn't just meant for you to answer.
"Are Nagas not close to their parents?" Y/n asked.
"Um, not all, but most," He said with a slightly sad look.
"What about you, if it's not too personal?" Y/n asked.
Shoto stayed silent for a time, as he slowly touched the burn on his face. " I could care less what my father is up to, but I... I do wonder how my mother is doing after she ran away from me and my dad," Shoto said sadly.
"W-why would she do that?" Y/n gasped.
"She said my left side and red scales looked too much like my horrible father. She burned the left side of my face and ran," Shoto answered as he covered his scar. " I was too horrible for her to look at."
Y/n frowned sadly at his story and pulled herself up onto the dry ground. She slowly approached Shoto's tail as she awed at his lovely scales.
"Your white scales shine like pearls, and the red ones look like rubies, your so lovely, Shoto," Y/n said in a soft tone.
Shivers ran up his spine as he felt the warm fingers slide across his scales. His heart pounded in his chest as he slowly coiled his tail around her.
"Y-you couldn't possibly mean that," Shoto said slowly.
"Of course I do. You know if you smiled more, maybe the ladies or gentlemen would flock to you," Y/n smiled.
"Flock? Like... Birds?" Shoto asked, really confused.
"No silly, I mean many would find you more approachable," Y/n laughed.
Her laugh was so small and cute, he could help but tighten his hold on her. He could feel her warmth on his scales as he slowly leaned in closer to her.
"If you're doing what I think you're doing, then you two are disgusting," Said a voice.
The two quickly turned to see Bakugo, who came back from a hunting outing. A large boar was slung over his shoulder as he entered the cave.
"Find a different part of the cave to suck each other's face," Katsuki grumbled.
"Why would we do that?" Shoto asked with pure confusion.
"Cause It's decent," Bakugo growled.
"No, why would we suck each other's faces?" Shoto asked again.
"I'm done with you," Bakugo scoffed.
_____________
Shoto and Izuku had to eventually leave to do a final scout turn, leaving Bakugo and Y/n. Bakugo had no interest in talking to the mermaid and did his own thing, by cooking the boar he caught. Y/n with nothing to do hummed to herself, her voice echoing off the walls of the cave.
"So you were the source of that voice," Bakugo said suddenly.
"Ummm... I was right next to you. How did you not know until now?" Y/n asked with a deadpanned look.
"No, every time around sunset I could hear something in the wind. A voice, singing," Bakugo said simply.
"Oh, I thought I was just singing to myself," Y/n said bashfully.
"More like to the whole forest," Bakugo huffed.
"Was I okay?" Yn asked slowly.
"You were definitely better than those harpies who think they can sing," Bakugo scoffed, turning away to hide his red ears.
"That is so sweet of you to say," Y/n said, slightly touched.
"Tch. Well, I don't really care for the noise of rain, you can keep doing what you were doing," Bakugo said slowly.
Y/n smiled at the tsundere naga and continued her song.
_________________
(3 weeks later)
Y/n and the three nagas grew closer and closer during the 3 weeks. The season of Union was quickly coming to a close, but tensions were high among the three males.
One morning, Shoto had his tail wrapped protectively around Y/n's sleeping form when he heard a soft but challenging hiss. Looking up sightly he could see it was Izuku. Izuku's usual large round pupils were now slits, as his serpentine tongue flicked between his lips.
"Yes, Izuku?" Shoto asked coldly.
"Your turn to patrol soon, maybe you should let her go now," Izuku said as nicely as possible, as he slowly inched closer.
Shoto tensed as Izuku slowly got closer. Shoto's pupils quickly turned to slits as he hissed back. Y/n was unable to sleep through the loud noises coming from the two.
"What's with all the noise," Y/n groaned sleepily, as she untangled herself from Shoto's coils.
"Would you shut it you two," Bakugo growled, as he pulled Y/n's sleepy form closer to him.
"B-bakugo, careful," Izuku hissed.
"I am," Bakugo said simply.
"Don't you both have someplace to be?" Izuku said with a slight hiss.
"W-what are you all fighting about?" Y/n asked, slightly more awake.

YES MOMMA GIVE US DEKU CONENTTTTT
Izuku is the type to truly want what he thinks is best for you, and willing to nearly kill himself to make sure that happens. Be that sabotage to certain people, stealing items, maiming those he thinks are villainous, and learning to pick locks to come and visit you.
He knows you think it’s crazy, that he’s worried for nothing, that he’s “not your boyfriend and to leave you alone” but that’s why he has to do this! He has to protect you!
You, Kacchan (and the others) and All Might are all he really cares about. You more than anyone else at this point, but that’s not really a secret.
He’s taken with just about everything about you, even the issues and flaws you have. It makes you human, it shows how even the most graceful have moments of failure and turmoil, and you, for some reason, made it all the more alluring to witness.
He can’t pinpoint when he began feeling so possessive and hyper obsessive over you, he just knows it’s been going on for a while. Starting off by you teasing him while drying your own tears off your face when you had a fight, calling him a “Silly Deku” to try and get that pout off his face as he thought about how to handle the one who hurt you.
Still so strong in a moment of hurt. Beautiful.
Now he’s crossing line after line after line. At first it was all in good fun, but you began locking him out. Pushing him away when he got closer, telling him you needed some time alone to think more and more as if you were avoiding him.
This is why he has to be your hero. You clearly don’t know whats good for you, deluding yourself into thinking you deserve nothing and that you have to block Izuku away. It hurts him but he knows this is just how you cope.
You push people away in fear of not being good enough. You may say you’re “calling the cops if he shows up in your room again” but he knows it’s just your way of saying you’re scared of what to do and how to be in a relationship.
It’s annoying, but he still loves you. He won’t let you push him away, he’ll make sure to save you before you hurt yourself.

for want of a bento box
Tumblr media
– It’s plain and simple, you see, someone is stealing your bento boxes and you will find your lunch thief! Or, in which Todoroki Shouto keeps taking your bento box and you declare war.
⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆
pairing: todoroki shouto x reader
warnings: fluff, cursing, shouto is a bad chef, I believe I made reader pretty gender neutral but I whipped this out in two hours and I can no longer remember if I used any fem!pronouns but im pretty sure I didn’t
word count: 3,060
a/n: this is for the wonder coworker bnharem collab! I had intended on writing a completely different theme and storyline but was very overwhelmed by how much time it actually needed to be written compared to the amount of time I actually had. that version will be out another time! but for now, enjoy some pure flufffffff!!!!
⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆⋄⋆⊹⋄⋆
Having a normal, functioning, well-paying job was probably the most desirable thing to you. It wasn’t to say that you were slacking or that you were homeless, broke, and never to be seen again because you were that in debt. But it was nice having a job!
When you entered the prestigious Toshinori Company, you joined not as an entry-level job employee but as a senior representative. You thought it was crazy.
It had to be crazy.
You had no prior experience, and now you were going to be in charge and the lead in certain areas?!
“And that was the entire layout of the office!” Mina chirped happily, throwing herself onto the desk chair across from yours with a big smile. “Any questions?”
“I don’t think so,” you mutter, brows creased as you look around the room again.
The office space was ample, sleek, open. Each desk has its own grand computer that you currently could not afford with your own money, comfortable chairs, and beautiful wood desks. It was elegant, far superiorly fancy, and yet, you didn’t feel out of place. Strange.
“Oh!” you say with a roll of your eyes as you reach below your desk to bring up your packed lunch. “Where was the break room again? I need to refrigerate my food!”
“Omg, of course, come this way!” Mina grins, standing up and motioning you to follow her. You smile gratefully and do.
The entire way to the office, Mina takes the time to point at the many different people on the floor and give them names. Everyone so far had sort of acknowledged you earlier as Mina was giving you the official tour. Some were much more open and friendly, and some had sneers or blank stares that left you dumbstruck.
Definitely a personable group.
“Hm, well, I guess Todoroki-kun isn’t here today?” Mina mutters as you enter the break room that has couches and comfortable-looking chairs. “Such a shame! You would have loved to see the office hottie!”
You snort at that, lips curled into a granulous smile as you place your plastic container with food into the fridge. “I’m sure I’ll live,” you brush off the fact that there was an absent person on your floor today.
“That’s the thing, though,” Mina points a finger at you, a lone eyebrow raised and a confident smirk on her face. “You won’t be thinking that again the moment you see him!”
You laugh, eyes crinkling as Mina joins your laughter. Eventually, she motions for the both of you to leave, and you nod in understanding. And with a weird sense of comfort and belonging, you realized that this job was going to be good.

Eventually, you had been working at Toshinori Company for two months.
Sixty-two days to be precise, and in all that time, you had only met Todoroki Shouto once. Even then, you had only seen the man walking through the office with a blank face, fingers in his pockets as two other men were walking in front of him, bickering lightly.
Had Mina not quite literally thrown herself across the table and gripped the collar of your shirt and twisted your head to look at him, you would have never caught a glimpse at the man with red and white hair. The three of them walked into the break room and came back out with their own lunches before leaving.
And that was it.
You had learned that the three of them (Todoroki Shouto, Midoriya Izuku, and Bakugou Katsuki) were within your department but worked very closely with the very high up members within the company. Many rumors pointed at one of the three taking over the company when the current CEO stepped down. They were, however, on the roster for your floor; they just never appeared except to pick up their lunches. Something they seemed to come to grab whenever you were a) way too fucking busy or b) not in the room.
You weren’t too bothered, though.
It wasn’t like you were trying to date one of them! You had only wanted to say hi.
.
.
.
Now, at ninety days, you had your first and probably most crucial evaluation.
Toshinori Yagi, the man who founded and currently ran this company, sat before you, looking at papers within a folder with tired but kind blue eyes. He nodded, impressed (hopefully), making small comments about the work you had been able to accomplish, a smile becoming a warming grin as he looked up.
“I’m impressed by the performance you’ve managed to attend to despite the short while you’ve been here, y/l/n-shojo,” Toshinori spoke, his fingers threading together and placing them onto the table. “I knew it was an excellent decision to put you in that position, and you exceeded my entire expectation!”
You flushed at that, lips twitching as you attempted to suppress that smile of yours.
“Thank you, Toshinori-san,” you practically wheeze as he waves off your thanks.
“No need to thank me, you’ve done all this work!” he laughs, tired eyes closing with a glorious supply of crow's feet blooming at the corner of his eyes. “Typically, at these evaluations, I ask a bunch of questions because there isn’t too much anyone can do in their first ninety days, I must admit.”
“Oh?”
“Mhm, but because I am curious, is there anything that has been happening as of late that you feel needs to be addressed with me?”
You felt yourself stiffen but knew your one and only complaint was not something to bring up in this setting.
“No, nothing,” you shrug, and Toshinori beams.
“I’m glad!”
Now, the problem.
The big, fat, stinky, hooligan, wanting to throttle someone problem.
For the past sixty of your ninety days, someone has been stealing your lunch.
Yes, you heard that correctly; someone was stealing your damn lunch! Every morning you woke up and prepared a delicious bento box for yourself. Some days you went as far as cutting shapes into your fruits and veggies just to make yourself grin. You weren’t the best chef in the world, but your bento boxes were pretty enough to make up for it, in your opinion. But the thing is, every day when you went into the communal fridge, you noticed two things.
One, your bento box was no longer in the same place, and two, the bento box was not yours at all.
The food was disastrously organized. Rice and lettuce spilling out in every partition in the box. The fruit and veggies often packed in this box had multiple cuts in them, implying that whoever did this was less than ideal with a knife. The meat was often oversalted, the sushi never sitting together, and everything was just… not it.
The first time you had sighed and eaten it, grumbling about how your precious lunch was stolen. But you had quickly figured out that it was inedible, and Mina, Uraraka, and Yaoyorozu thank god, offered to share their meals.
Seeing that you were distressed about how someone stole your egg and octopus sausages one day, Mina declared that they would watch the break room for whoever was stealing your light blue bento box. The first day you staked out, you had done it with Mina. But ten minutes into waiting around, you needed to pee. So you stood up and left in a hurry, leaving Mina alone.
But when you returned, Mina was gone, instead standing by Kirishima’s desk with a bright grin and a stance that screamed that she heard something she liked (gossip, possible in-office romance, a love confession?). Her jaw dropped as she noticed you and Kirishima had turned and waved in your direction as you raced into the break room to open the fridge, and sure enough, your bento was gone.
The next time, you staked out with Uraraka. Your arms were folded, your bladder cleared, and your lips twisted into a pout as you glared and stared down every single member who entered the room. Uraraka whispered to you her guesses about just who might be the thief, every other person rating an 8/10 likelihood of stealing your lunch.
But as the both of you sat there, your eyes narrowed at each passerby, no one came to collect your bento today.
“Deku-kun, no packed lunch today?” Uraraka asked as the green, curly-haired man you had only met once previously raced into the break room, grabbing the extra chopsticks meticulously hidden in the third bottom draw.
“Ah, Uraraka-san, y/l/n-san! Uh, no,” Midoriya greeted you both, who apparently responds to the nickname Deku, laughs off as he grabs a handful of napkins. “Todoroki-kun left all our lunches in his car by accident, and well… they spoiled… Kacchan’s pissed, so I ran off to get lunch for us today!”
Uraraka laughed, shaking her head, “Leave it to Todoroki-kun to act that way.”
Midoriya laughed, bright and clearly in agreement, “You should have seen his face when Kacchan asked for his lunch! I swear–”
“HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO GRAB FUCKING CHOPSTICKS, SHIT-KU! I’M FUCKING STARVING!” a voice roared from nowhere near the entrance of the break room. You did, however, jump a bit, eyes turning toward the break room entrance to see the blond man (Bakugou? Kacchan? You had no idea which was correct) near the entrance of the floor.
“It’s only been a minute, Kacchan, relax!” Midoriya laughs, completely unaffected by the startling shout as he waves goodbye to both you and Uraraka before leaving, joining Bakugou as the both of them seem to talk comfortably… well, maybe more like bickering.
“Why are they–”
“Childhood friends, apparently,” Uraraka sighed, but the smile on her face betrays her exasperation.
No one stole your bento that day.
Yaoyorozu took up the third stake out, the two of you idly chatting about tea. You honestly had no idea what to talk about with Yaomomo; she was often just so elegant and mature despite being your age. When you learned that her family was in charge of the Yaoyorozu Corp, it had been strangely easy to accept that.
It made sense.
So as the two of you stood at the kitchen sink, boiling water for tea Yaomomo swore would be the best matchup for your packed nigiri, the both of you missed the man who walked into the room, opened the fridge, and took your lunch.
“I… I am so sorry,” Yaomomo apologized, head bowed dangerously low as the both of you looked at the sloppily cut salmon in your not actual bento. “Please eat my food in reparation.”
“No, it’s okay,” you sigh, chewing on the somehow still warm salmon. “I deserved this loss.”
Luck was just on this man's side, it seemed. No matter what you did, you could never catch the man in action, and you were ready to give up.
But this was the last attempt you said to yourself as you returned to your office floor, the evaluation done, and the rest of your life coming to light. You could do this. No! You WOULD do this!
.
.
“Why don’t you just put your name on your bento box?” Bakugou asked, a lone eyebrow raised in what you could only assume was judgment and pity. The explosive man was standing in the doorway of the breakroom, watching as you and Mina were trying to climb up the counters of the breakroom to grab the camera you had previously planted. “Obviously, it doesn’t have your name on it.”
“Um,” you squeak, having been obviously caught by someone who intimidated you just the slightest bit. “That’s a good idea, thank you, Bakugou-san.”
“Tch, whatever, just clean up the damn counters, fucking nasty standing up on there. Some people prepare their food there.”
“We would never forget to do that!” you argue, desperate to not leave a bad impression on this man.
“I don’t know much about you, but I know raccoon eyes over there would.”
“MY NAME IS MINA!”
“Like I care.”
He left without so much as a wave but did seem to nod with his departure. You sighed as you hopped off the counter, Mina grabbing the cleaning supplies as she cursed out the long-gone man under her breath.
But you were looking at the fridge with your missing bento box.
“I can’t believe I never put my name on it.”
“It’s okay! Not even Yaomomo thought of it, so I say we are still smart!”
.
.
.
It was the next day, you were at your desk, anxious as hell as you did your work, trying not to focus on the fact that it was lunchtime and you were actively avoiding the break room. You wondered if they wouldn’t come and collect it today. If somehow they were an asshole and wouldn’t care if your name was on it! What would happen then? What if it was someone like Bakugou who was taking your lunch? What then? You were sure you would cave in slight fear and major intimidation if he said that your lunch was his now.
“Want a cutie while we wait, cutie?” Mina asked, waving the small tangerine in her fingers as she grins.
“Please,” you say in gratitude for the food because you were starving. “Thank you.”
Eventually, you lost track of what was happening, becoming all too invested in the conversation that Mina was telling you about that involved Kaminari, Kirishima, Bakugou, Midoriya, twenty-seven Red Bulls, fifteen Monsters, and five shots of sake. It seemed that the former two were quite big instigators when they wanted to be, and the latter two were unable to back away from challenges, especially when the other was involved.
“Y/l/n?” an unfamiliar voice called from behind you, and you turned partially in your chair as you looked behind you.
Standing behind you was a tall man with red and white hair, and from this distance, you noticed immediately that his eyes were a deep grey and brilliant blue.
Todoroki Shouto.
“T-Todoroki-san!” you greet him back, voice unable to keep from trembling as your nerves shot up. What was going on? You two had never interacted before! He was always gone, never present, and whenever he was in the office, it seemed that you weren’t there.
He cleared his throat and raised up two identical bento boxes.
“It seems… I have apparently been stealing your bento boxes,” he concludes, pressing the blue bento box with your name written on it into your hands.
Your jaw drops as your fingers curve around the cool plastic, eyes blinking up a storm as you try to abstain from laughing high pitched and ugly like.
“It was you?!”
A pink color blooms onto his cheeks as he averts his eye contact with you and nods slowly, “I am so sorry.”
“I just… how?!” you exclaim, exasperated, this man obviously being a bit dense if he had no idea he was taking your bento box!
“I prepare my bento boxes the night before, and I don’t really remember what I put into them….” Todoroki explains slowly, his hand rubbing the back of his neck, his tongue clicking the roof of his tongue. “I just thought that my cooking was improving and that I was somehow doing an amazing job.”
The grin that overcomes your face is one of subtle, strange fondness and soft warmth. “I can tell you that you probably haven’t improved much,” you tease, opening your bento box to see your prepared meal for the day.
Cucumber salad, bulgogi beef, rice, and some fruit.
It was packed exactly how you remembered.
“I can’t believe I finally get to eat a meal I prepared,” you continue to tease, your eyes moving up to meet Todoroki, who was also looking at your bento previously. “Thank you for returning my meals and apologizing.”
“It was nothing,” Todoroki waved off with a single hand before opening up his own disastrously assembled bento box. It looked worse than usual today. Everything was just thrown in, it seemed. You saw egg and rice, but everything else in there was indescribable. He smiles at you before sighing at his bento. “This looks more like my stuff.”
You laugh, shaking your head, “You want to share my bento box? I’m sure you probably don’t want to return to that.”
“No, it’s okay,” Todoroki gently declined, although he looked at your bento with great want. He cleared his throat, gaze moving to lock on yours, and you swore his cheeks were still pink but no longer from embarrassment. “I just wanted to come and apologize for stealing your lunch for so long and to thank you for the meals; they were all delicious. Especially the soba you had made.”
“It’s all good; it’s in the past now,” you say gently, somehow finding yourself falling for a man you’ve barely just begun to talk with. The both of you stare at each other, and your skin feels warm. You chuckle, gaze averting for a moment before returning as you tease him. “Although, if you steal from me again, I’m not so sure if I’ll be so lenient.”
“It won’t happen again, promise,” Todoroki smiles, and you feel your spine melt. “But I would love to make it up to you somehow. I can make you dinner one night or something?”
You laugh, head shaking, “No, absolutely not; I don’t trust your cooking skills just yet. But you can definitely take me out to dinner.”
“Yeah, I can definitely do that,” Todoroki agrees, and the both of you fall silent as the shy stares continue. “Does, um… is Friday at seven okay with you?”
“That works,” you say, and Todoroki smiles.
“Good, I’ll uh, see you then?”
“See you,” you agree with a sweet smile before turning around, your fingers raised in a small wave.
You turn to see Mina, Uraraka, and Yaomomo staring at you, eyes comically wide and so very intrigued.
“Oh… my… GOD!” Mina shrieked as Todoroki walks away, and you shriek as she jumps across the table and shakes you, screaming about office romances and meet-cutes being entirely too underrated. “PROMISE ME I’LL BE INVITED TO THE WEDDING!!!!”
“MINA!”

It would take about three years of dating, several months of teaching Shouto how to cook, which resulted in a few bellyaches. Still, eventually yes, Mina would be invited to your wedding.
