#sars cov 2 #covid 19 #i've interacted with 4 different friends/acquaintances in the past month alone who have all been hospitalised after having a stroke #(and in one case multiple strokes)#one who i visited in hospital over the weekend had a (unmasked) nurse coughing up a lung in her room 👍#and one of them who had to undergo surgery also had to be moved to a different hospital #bc the ward they were keeping him in was full of confirmed covid patients 👍👍#idk how many times it needs to be said before it gets through people's heads but VACCINES ARE NOT ENOUGH #and encouraging ppl to rely solely on them when there are already plans to jack up the prices so you have to KEEP PAYING for boosters #for an ONGOING mass-disabling event is so laughably unrealistic and absurd and flat-out demonic #you need to mitigate the actual spread of covid by WEARING A MASK + fighting for CLEAN AIR/proper ventilation in public spaces!!!!!!#ppl are so eager to forget the whole 'break the chain of transmission' thing and how effective masking is and so this is where we're at #'i got infected and infected other ppl who might die or become permanently disabled but it's no big deal bc no one else wears a mask #so if /i/ didn't infect them someone else would have anyway so it's not my fault and really its got nothing to do with me and my choices'#if everyone is responsible then no one is responsible - that's how it works right?#it's no wonder some ppl go rabid at even the sight of someone wearing a mask and minding their own business #ppl seeking treatment for unrelated conditions/illnesses and then dying from covid caught in hospitals #due to lack of npis/basic mitigation measures - no regulations no accountability #we truly live in a hell (''new normal'') of our own making #anyway none of this is new news at all i mostly thought it might be good to share the info graphic abt signs of stroke #covid has been given free reign and chances are increasing as to how likely you'll encounter it happening to someone you know at some point #also heart attacks and pots and alzheimer's etc etc etc

tbh it is incredible how compelling bingge and shen jiu are considering they're characters who ceased to exist as soon as the novel began

#svsss #they're so fascinating to me....#the way the cycle of abuse plays out between them #that post about characters who don't deal with their trauma #whose trauma makes them mean and hateful and unpleasant #that's shen jiu #his trauma and abuse turned him into a monster #and then he turned around and did the same thing to binghe #turning him into the monster that would ultimately kill him #he is the monster shen jiu created #the way they parallel each other is so fascinating to me #people who were kicked and beaten and unloved #and the moment they got some power they took violent revenge on the people who hurt them #they used a pile of bodies to climb to the top #but it wasn't fulfilling once they got there #they were still hollow and hateful and unloved #ough. augh. coughs up blood #thinks about the bingge extra and the shen jiu extra and has to go lie down for a while #AND THEY'RE NOT EVEN IN THE GODDAMN MAIN NOVEL #i mean bingge is for one (1) extremely graphic scene #but shen jiu is fucking dead and gone the moment shen yuan appears #and yet they're SO complex and compelling #because of how they haunt the narrative #and how they are the ugly shadows that trail behind our main characters

I keep seeing the odd post here and there mentioning that Ballister Blackheart is white in the Nimona comic and it hurts my heart a little each time I see somebody say that bc he’s actually not! Ballister Blackheart is canonically Asian in the comic, he is East Asian and simply has light skin.

I just find it saddening and wrong (granted I’m white myself so maybe it’s not my place to have an opinion on) to erase a character who is canonically a poc just because they have light skin :/

This is not a diss to people who didn’t know or people that were mistaken, that’s sort of the reason I’m making this post, so more people can know the truth rather than be misinformed or assume incorrectly.

#also it is p o u r i n g outside and it takes me an hour and fifteen minutes to commute to campus #i'm a good little student but sometimes i just can't be assed #esp with all the crazy stuff that's been happening on public transit and on my campus for that matter #i'm just getting a bad vibe today [insert empath meme here]#warning for me complaining about a graphic nightmare!!!!:#had a few stress dreams(?) last night but one particularly violent one in which a woman got run over by a streetcar--#--and the paramedics were moving people along but i accidentally got a really good look at her and it fucked me up #she looked like she was just sleeping peacefully but i could only really make out the top half of her body #probably because the bottom half was... yeah.#i think i also had another dream that i was being hunted by a sniper?? and they had called my cell and were threatening me + my folks?#and another one where i had to hide some children from... i don't really know what. some dangerous person who wanted to kill all of us #but the kids wouldn't leave me even though i begged them to.#yeah just a normal collection of dreams for me. literally ugh.#i don't even think i'm stressed in my life rn??#not any more than normal lol

#not me posting this just to have an excuse to talk about him more aaahahhhah #i've created edek approx 4 years ago and since then he went through little to no design changes #he is jus flawless. perfect #his personality however.. oof #i mean !!! he's not a bad guy #as i mentioned before he's very friendly and open to new people and opportunities #its just. he was based on my (now) ex best friend #me and that friend were close during primary school and despite me moving cities we managed to keep this friendship going #but you know. it wasnt the same. it became long distance #and i think i manifested my longing by creating an oc that was based on his aesthetics and personality #it took me some time to realise that i've been viewing this friend through lens of this oc. that of course lead to idealisation #because he wasn't physically there with me i created an imaginary version of him in my head #it was also because at this point we were getting older and slowly growing apart #and i think i wanted to grasp a little part of him that would still understand me #edek's relationship with ryba was also heavily influenced by this relationship #and. well. the things that my ex friend and edek have in common are short temper (despite acting chill) and trouble showing affection #he also tends to say things faster than he can even think them through #oh and he enjoys long walks through the woods and mountain hiking and bicycling and bugs and mushrooms and. yeah #and the other traits!!!!#he is suuuuuuper protective of his loved ones especially his younger sister irenka #his interest include everything thats fantasy and with folklore themes #hes also a stoner lol #aaand a funfact - he and zbyszek (of dycha za zbycha!!!!) used to be friends in childhood but they aren't friends as of now #why you might ask? from edek's pov zbyszek and his family just randomly disappeared #and edek was the only one that wasn't in on the fact that they have moved to the usa #edek wondered why his best friend at that time didn't tell him such important news #and often thought that there mustve been something wrong with him or zbyszek didn't actually like him that much #this incident heeeavily influenced his perception of relationships in the future #OH AND ALSOO hes an artist he graduated art hs with a degree in graphic design and is in college for the same thing #original character

why are people surprised the combat is different, istg we were TOLD that before the gameplay trailer lol.

also people are STILL complaining about the art style and people that decided they wont like the game no matter what are being so rude to people that do like it.

thinking fondly of all the hours i spent reading webcomics in high school. i don't really read much anymore & i don't have the kind of attention i did then, when i spent massive blocks of time on the family computer scrolling through the endless canvases of subnormality or backreading oglaf & hoping my mom didn't walk into the room, but i'm so grateful for all the personal & strange & thoughtful & messy art that people make & share. much to be said for the curated collection but there's nothing like the feeling of finding art yourself that speaks to you, the more unofficial & unsanctioned & sincere the better

#i think about what reading an important book felt like when i was young when i'm buying books for the library #i was obsessed with francesca lia block & joey comeau. i loved nancy garden & diane duane & tamora pierce & eragon #i read wicked over & over but i hated it. i read moby dick for fun & eugene ionesco for culture.#i carried from hell around with me like a friend. what was i doing there? i don't know! but it felt important then & still does #most of those things weren't for me—although some of them were!—and only a few of them came from the library #but when we talk about information needs & intellectual freedom i think about like. when i was twelve & reading literotica all the time #what does this mean for my purchasing decisions as a librarian? mostly that i buy a lot of middle grade graphic novels #there are a lot of good ones right now. but i'm so wary of heavyhanded didacticism or self-important thematic weight #the main thing when you're writing for kids i think is that you gotta be honest & you can't pretend you know everything
