how to draw dark skinned + black people

so ive noticed ppl struggling with this, so as a black person, i wanted to give some tips 1. do NOT make the skin ashy. use warmer brown colors and dont be scared to make them dark or lighter, theres many lightskinned black people and many deep dark black people. 2. like #1, use a variety of browns in different characters, dark skinned people arent all the same color. (ill put an image of skin colors in this post) 3. MAKE THE PALMS LIGHT. there is LESS melanin in the palms of the hands and feet. make them lighter than the brown itself. 4. study different hair styles. black people often have 4a, 4b, and 4c curl types. draw braids, draw locs, draw freeform + semi freeform locs, draw different types of braids, draw afros, draw different types of afros, draw edges, ect. theres MANY different brushes, especially for ibis paint, for black hairstyles. but if you are drawing traditionally, look at number 4. (may help for digital as well but yk if ur doing traditional art u cant exactly use preset brushes) 4. dont make the curls just on the outside lines. put fluff and hair details within the lines, it seriously shows the texture MUCH better, especially for 4a and 4b hairs. often for a start i like to draw those triangle lines or circles to show poofiness. and then i do markings on the inside of the lines. then i draw lines to show strands of hair. espec if its messier 5. braids are harder but often times, draw guidelines of boxes and THEN use thoses to draw the folds. or draw hearts, upside or right side up as guides. theres a lot of tutorials out there to help as well. 6. black people often DO have larger noses and lips. do not be afraid to make them bigger. 7. along with #6, do NOT make the lips like sausages pls. or like overly pink. make them look like lips, theres many sources out there that show how to draw lips. 8. do not make the blush pink. make it a more darker red depending on the skin tone. pink stands out too much in darker skin and overall doesnt look good or realistic. same with lips. make them redder if theres lipstick. 9. for shading put dark rich brown colors. for highlights do a yellowish color. + theres probably more things you should know but your NUMBER ONE source about drawing black features is black people themselves. hope this helps btw!!

A lot of darker blonde shades toe the line of brunette due to the melanin breakdown in our hair,, during summer months the melanin in our hair breakdowns a lot easier than other shades and makes out hair colour change drastically,, this results in a lot of people perceive out hair in the winter as very dark, for example,,

My hair, the same section, in April, November and February. It’s brighter from April until September, and darkens again over the winter. My hair is a lot darker now because I’ve been staying indoors and haven’t had much contact with UV light. This isn’t noticed as much in lighter blondes like tommy since his ‘darker’ hair isn’t comparable with brown, but it still happens:

It can be argued that it’s just light brown turning blonde in summer, but really it’s just one of those colours that sits on the line- personally my hair is blonder for most of the year so I say I’m blonde, it’s not until October my hair strays into the ‘brown’ category.

TL:DR;; Blonde hair is a whole tricky mess,, just because it looks brown now doesn’t mean it is brown- there’s a whole range of factors that filter into how blonde hair looks at every point in the year, and it’s all really down to personal interpretation and longevity of the colour

Also I did an analysis on something a while ago but I never shared my scientific discovery But basically my QPP was complaining abt how dark I drew Seth but I drew him dark bc he’s egyptian and I thought he deserved some more melanin (I draw all the Akhemsat boys darker than they are usually except for Apep idk why) So I decided to see who the whitest UT character is So first the characters we can rule out are:

The Akhemsat bois bc they’re clearly Egypt based (Zephyr is included in the Akhemsat bois bc he’s just Seth 2.0) and also old lady but she doesn’t have art or a name for that matter- The next characters we can rule out are

These two (three if you include Alastor who I could not find the picture of-) who are very obviously not supposed to be white- Okay so after we’ve taken out a few of the obvious ones we gotta reach a lil bit

I think we can safely remove Chronos he looks a lil bit darker than some of the other bois Okay who’s still on our list (also Shara updated her blog’s aesthetic while I was recieving some of these pictures it looks noice)

Things aren’t looking too good for you Mr.Red Mithras (also I couldn’t find the pics of the hangus so they’re no longer included in this study I know they’re white okay shush) So next I’m pretty sure we can rule out

I think the reason why there are so many different hair colors in my hair naturally (including some pure white and light red/strawberry blonde hairs) is because the melanocytes at the hair follicle/root are gradually adding less and less melanin into the hair strands. Which explains why I have hairs that are darker at the ends and are lighter along the strands from the ends to the roots.
