Most of us give our power away every day without even being aware of it. When we attach our happiness to people or things or when we let everyone else’s voices and opinions drown our own, subconsciously we are telling ourselves that we do not have the power to create our own path or blueprint. That we are at the mercy of whoever or whatever we think is an obstacle to our desires. We are natural born creators. We create our realities everyday. We can choose to recreate the same patterns or create a totally new path for ourselves. Once we decide that we do not belong to anyone but ourselves, that our own feelings and voice is the MOST important, we will naturally find our own rhythm. Once you take everyone else out of the equation and you’re left with yourself, you’ll see how fast the path lights up to everything you’ve ever wanted✨✨ 🔊Song by: Faarrow ”I don't belong to you” 📸 @yazzalali 🦋 ••• #Shaash #Somaliwomen #Faarrow (at Toronto, Ontario)

Could Somaliland Become The Next Place To Ban FGM?
@NimkoAli: When I met #Somaliland’s President @musebiihi in late 2017 he promised me that he would ban #FGM within his first 100 days in office. As one of the 98% of #Somaliwomen affected by this horrific form of #violence at the age of 7, I was overcome with emotion at the thought that the place of my birth was finally showing some leadership for the rights of women and girls

“As a young child, when I saw the repeated injustice and inequality that Somali women faced, it planted an urge for me to change and get our rights back. I became a female activist for women rights in my early teens by becoming a member of what was then Somali Women’s Democratic Organization (SWDO) in the 1970s. Because of my enthusiasm and hard work, I reached the executive management in a short amount of time. Four years later, I got elected as the deputy chairwoman. We represented the Somali women everywhere, whether inside the country or on the international stage. We had an umbrella group that was respected and recognised internationally. Every week, on radio stations and newspapers, we had the Voice of Women section where we focused on the problems that Somali women faced. But let me tell you, we strived and achieved and we made sure that Somali women were part of every sector. There were female pilots, female soldiers, female doctors, female engineers, female ministers, female ambassadors, etc. We reduced the evil FGM practice and any prevailing ignorance that forced Somali women not to compete and excel. Every sector where there were men, we were represented in there but you would think all the hard work we put in have been reversed after 1991 and we have to start from scratch once again, which is why I am back to the Somali Women Organisation, this time as the chairwoman.”

“Markii aan yaraa, waxaan la kulmay xaqdarro joogta ah oo lagu sameen jiray haweenka Soomaaliyeed. Waxay igu abuurtay dareen iyo rabitaan inaan wax ka bedelo. Waxaan noqday u doode xuquuqda haweenka Soomaaliyeed. Waxaana ku biiray Ururkii Dimoqoraadiga Haweenka Soomaaliyeed 1970-yadii. Madaame aan ahaa qof firfircoon iyo hawlkar, waxaan xubin ka noqday maamuulkii fulinta. Afar sano kadib, waxaa la ii doortay ku-xigeenka gudoomiyaha ururka. Haweenka Soomaaliyeed oo dhan wakiil bey ururka ka ahayd, meelkasta ha joogne, ama gudaha ama dibadda. Waxaanu ahayn haween caalamka oo dhan laga ixtraamo la aqoonsaday kartidooda madaame aanu keenay isbedel anagoo la kaashaneena dawladii Soomaaliyeed. Todobaad kasta, idaacadda ama wargeysayada, waxaan ku lahayn qeyb lagu magacdaray Codka Haweenka. Halkaas aan diiradda saari jirnay dhibaatooyinka ee la kulmi jireen haweenka Soomaaliyeed iyo sidii looga bixii lahaa. Horumar weyn baanu gaarnay, meel kasta waanu ka muuqanay. Waxaa jiray duuliye dumar ah, askari dumar, dhakhaatiir dumar ah, injineero dumar ah, wasiiro dumar ah, danjirayaal dumar, iwm. Waxaana hoos geyney ku dhaqanka gudniinka fircooniga iyo jaahilnimada haystay dumarka Soomaaliyeed, horumar aad u wayn baanu gaarnay. Meel kasta oo rag ka muuqan jiray, dumar Soomaaliyeed wey joogeen. Laakin waxaad u malayneysa in hawshii aadkeyd aan galiney is badalay wixii 1991-kii ka dambeysay. Hadda waxkasta bilow bey noo tahay, sidaas daraadeed baan dib ugu biiray ururkii, boorka ka jafnay, hadaan ku la hadlayo, waxaan ahay gudoomiyaha.”

Happy #internationalwomensday Today we celebrate the amazing women in our lives (and online) who inspire us.. the space makers and the storytellers who have created their own paths where it did not exist. Today and everyday we embrace our many layers and are so thankful that we live in the best/worst of times. It has awakened the CREATOR in every woman that we know. The future is female and we are creating it. 🔺 #guntina #somaliwomen 🇸🇴 Film Photography 📸: @yazzalali 🧚🏼♂️ (at Planet Earth)
