Bluebell Bay "I experienced a beautiful sunset over Killantringan Bay earlier in the week and this small patch of Bluebells at their peak made for an equally beautiful scene. It may be the best image I've produced yet. The Rhinns of Galloway at it's finest."

With the weather forecast looking pretty dire in these parts for the rest of the week I took the opportunity today to climb Screel and it’s bigger sister, Bengairn. Fantastic 360 views over Galloway, the Solway Firth, Galloway Hills and the Cumbrian mountains.  http://bit.ly/2SfRIr4

Another new ambassador @catcoulson.art ・・・ A bird drawing expedition to Caerlaverock the other morning had started out with thick fog, within an hour it had lifted to reveal brilliant skies, a few beautiful low hanging clouds and stunning views over the Nith Estuary.

Although the Solway Coastwise Project has now come to an end this blog will remain open for any posts, photos and information related to places along the Scottish Solway Coast and their names.

We hope you will still find plenty of intersting information here about our wonderful coast. There will alo be shared posts and links to other relevant aand nearby sites, related projects and other interesting facts.

Ambassador Gatherings

Everyone was welcomed to our gatherings, discovering the meaning and stories behind local coastal place-names. From a smuggler's look-out to salt pans and causeways, healing waters to ancient battles and witches spells,the stories we uncovered from place names along the stunning Solway coastline were shared with our #SolwayAmbassadors.

Events were held in Auchencairn, Powfoot, Port Logan and the Isle of Whithorn in March and April 2019

Planning some exploration of coastal locations with the help of archaeologists. Prehistoric woodlands / saltpans / mines / Mulberry harbour remains were all included for our #solwayambassadors
