Continuing from my previous post this was the moment that turned a fun #1dayvacay into a tooooo much fun night. Out of nowhere he asks me if he can buy me a shot. He didn’t have to try convincing me too long and we were off the the races. The next 3 hours were almost none stop laughter. What a great time. I will say that #1dayvaca is exhausting! NYC June 6-June 11

Another solo trip done. I feel so accomplished. I got a 10 attraction city explorer pass so I got a lot done in my six days there. First time in the city I was so nervous to go because I didn’t plan out everything and it was my first time even flying alone. I didn’t know anyone in the city so if anything happened to me help would not be within reach. I looked up plane tickets and thought well it’s either now or never because New York is only going to be more expensive in the coming months. I thought about inviting other people but I don’t know if it’s me being lazy, not wanting to plan with other people, or just being tired of people in general. I felt like I need to do a solo trip for myself and just wanting to spend time on my own. Suprisingly throughout the whole trip I don’t think I felt alone. I texted people here and there to update them on my whereabouts so maybe that’s why I didn’t feel alone. Things might’ve been different if I completely turned off my phone but then again how would I navigate my way around the city. Actually you know getting the hang of the subway system was a lot easier than I imagined. The subway is also very safe, I was expecting creepers. The sad part is the only time I got hit on the entire trip was by a solicitor that wanted me to donate to some fund hahahaha. Guess I’m not very desirable in New York. Ah wells, it worked in my favor because I felt very safe being alone in the city. Of course I stayed mostly in Manhattan which is probably the safest you can get. I was in Brooklyn for a brief moment in the daytime but that was it. 

Brief recap of everything I did was Time Square, tours included The Ride, Brooklyn Bridge tour, oh yeah I walked both Brooklyn and Manhattan bridge, Top of the Rock, Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island when it was freaken raining so hard that my $4 umbrella kept flipping, Body World (was quite dissapoint), Ripley’s Believe it or Not, Natural History Museum (this was cool), Central Park, Twilight Harbor Tour (yeah watching the sunset by myself hahaha, the tour guide basically put me to sleep... ), Grand Central Terminal, Chinatown, Koreatown, Little Italy, very little shopping. Some noteworthy food places I went to included Lombardi’s Pizza, Kat’s Delicatessen, Junior’s Cheesecake,  Luke’s Lobster, Jacques Torres (major dissapoint in their “frozen hot chocolate”, Serendipity is where it’s at). I think my favorite place has to be Central Park. I walked 26k steps that day but I didn’t explore everything in that park.  

The view from Manhattan Bridge is also breathtaking. 

I also tried hitting up bars and clubs by myself. That was difficult to say the least. I went to this Asian party that supposedly only happens once a month and I figured ah the stars must be aligning if this is the day I choose to go to a random club and it happened to be the only time this month they’re doing it. Sadly it ended up being more like me being socially awkward trying to break into social groups. I would be able to hold the conversation during the group but then as they migrate it’s like umm do I follow? Maybe not they’re not asking me to. The second group I broke into same thing happened. At least the  guy ended up saying nice to meet you, that was as clear of a ok bye don’t follow as I could hope hahaha. I wonder if it’s this difficult for guys trying to pick up girls in a big girl group. Then again, not like I just showed up behind a guy and start dancing up on him. I’m pretty proud of putting myself out there twice to two different groups but after the two groups I was pretty exhausted and decided to call it a night. I was originally going to go back to this other club but after the two group rejection it was like ok... I think my self-esteem can only take so much hahah. But nah I’m glad I went cause now I have interesting stories and experiences instead of settling for being on my bed. It was harder than I thought to be a girl by myself at a bar or club. The movies make it seem like you just need to sit at the bar stool for two seconds and a hot guy comes over and buys you a drink. Que lastima guess I should dress more revealing and have makeup next time. 

For a city so busy it’s interesting to see people just sit around and open up a book. I don’t know if you can really have that balance here. I feel like if I were ever to live in New York I would be the people you see rushing everywhere they go and not having time to just sit down and smell the roses. In my moments of staring off into the distance I was hoping to reach a new realization or sense of self but I didn’t. Part of it though is that I think I already know myself pretty well. My whole life I’ve been pretty independent mainly because I was never in a substantial enough relationship to rely on doing everything with someone else. It’s always been me myself and I and it will probably continue to be so for quite some more time. Obviously it’s summer so I can’t help but have moments of wanting to reconnect or starting something new. I’ll save that for another post though. 

To wrap it all up, I fell in love with New York City the second day I was there and I would definitely do it again <3
