Brittney Johnson (December 23, 1989) is an accomplished Actress. She brings an exhilarating and sincere performance to any character she portrays. She made Broadway History by becoming the first Black Woman to play the title role of “Glinda”, in Wicked on Broadway. She continues to receive high praise for this role from the press, peers, and fans worldwide.

She is a versatile Voice Over and Commercial artist. She has voiced several popular cartoon characters. She has represented mainstream brands in radio commercials as well as brought characters to life in TV commercials.

She premiered her solo concert, “From the Heart” to 54 Below on February 9th and 10th, 2024.

She stared in the hit Broadway musical, Wicked, playing her history-making turn as Glinda. Her other notable Broadway credits include Les Miserables where she gave a commanding performance as Eponine. She made Broadway history during her run in Les Miserables when she played both Eponine and Fantine on the same day, becoming the first woman to play both roles on Broadway. She starred in Motown the Musical where she understudied the role of Diana Ross; she played Little Eva in Beautiful: The Carole King Musical; played in the acclaimed revival of Sunset Boulevard starring Glenn Close; and served as the opening night guest of honor in the Broadway engagement of Kristin Chenoweth: For The Girls. Brittney has been acclaimed on world stages like that of the Orb Theatre in Tokyo Japan, where she reprised her award-nominated performance of Lorrell in Dreamgirls. Tony-winner Lillias White (1951) made her Broadway debut in Barnun (1981), and has since gone on to do eleven additional shows, including Dreamgirls (1987), How to Succeed... (1995), and The Life (1997). Twice she has played Matron "Mama" Morton in Chicago. She recently finished up an 18-month engagement as Hermes in Hadestown. Lillias has performed her solo cabaret act across the country, and is one of the Muses in Hercules.

Ute Lemper (1963) is a German actress once known as "the new Marlene [Dietrich]." She played Velma Kelly in Chicago on Broadway in 1998 after winning the Olivier in the West End production. For nineteen years, before they replaced it with a twenty-something, her photograph hung above the Ambassador Theatre marquee. She is a world-renown concert and cabaret artist, selling out Carnegie Hall, Cafe Carlyle, and 54 Below (and that's just New York).

I highly encourage you to watch Jk as he watches it. For the first approximately fourteen seconds, he doesn’t blink, eyes fixed on his screen (when the birds fly and Tae is taking photographs).

Throughout watching the MV, Jk will sometimes stare without blinking for a spell (1:27:41-1:27:54, 1:27:58-1:28:14 are two other examples). His gaze is soft, and sometimes his mouth puckers up (the below are two instances of when his mouth softly purses). It’s really sweet to watch. He hums along before starting to toggle between humming and singing the song.

In early August 2019, Jk picks the purple paper, which is revealed to be Tae, who he must award a certificate to. He awards him the poetic and beautiful “I thought you’d be beyond my imagination but then I think again and you’re way beyond my imagination” award, for his work on “Scenery” and “Winter Bear.”

August 2020, BTS film “Break the Silence” commentary.

As members watch the screen, they speculate what the next clip will be, guessing it’ll be France. To their surprise, it’s London, with solo shots of Tae. Yoongi mentions his guitar teacher was in the city at the same time, before Jk excitedly interjects in recognition that Tae filmed his “Winter Bear” MV here. He says this twice, before the song had even started playing (which I find telling), nudging Tae in his excitement. As it airs, Jk continuously praises his style, softly smiles while watching, and sings along (after, it transitions to Tae’s “Singularity” which also gets Jk excited, and has him rub Tae’s head affectionately by the end of the performance!)

November 2023 - part 1

November 1 - New Heights Podcast episode 61 airs.

Jason appears dressed up as King Triton however Travis neglects to dress up or share photos of a Halloween costume to fans disappointment. The brothers react to people dressing up in their likeness including musician Jax who portrays Taylor putting Travis on the map despite him being an accomplished athlete (x)

“She put me on the map, right there in the video.” “That’s so good, man,” Travis continued with a smile on his face. “God damn, that was golden. Hats off. That was well done. You get a round of applause for that one, I enjoyed that.”

Travis also includes Taylor in the Kelce clan as they sum up their Halloween show… “it's a Kelce Halloween”

November 3 - Travis questioned at Chiefs media conference ahead of game in Germany on Sunday

Asked in reference to Taylor: "What is the latest status and are you in love?" A team mate comments "spice it up... " Travis answers "The latest status is I got to see her last week. That's the latest status right there."

Travis is asked again if he is in love? He replies

"Im going to keep my personal relationship personal" (x 12:54)

When asked about if Taylor will be in attendance at the game Travis answers

“When I mention — or everyone knows — she’s at the game, the Vegas [line] and over-under on my catches goes up and down, The spread goes up and down. So I don’t want to mess with any of that stuff, I’m just going to keep that to myself.”

"How does it feel to officially be 'The guy on the Chiefs'?" Jason teased Travis on the podcast. With a laugh, Travis said that he had "no clue" Taylor planned to mention him during her show. "Well, I might have had a little bit of a clue," he then admitted. "But definitely when I heard it come out of her mouth, [it] still shocked me."  "Yeah, you could tell in the video," Jason responded.  "I was like, 'Oh shh! She really said that,'" Travis marveled. 

When Jason notes that Scott Swift is wearing a Chiefs lanyard at the Eras Tour Night 3 he asks...

"What are we doing, Scott? You're gonna let this man's devilish good looks and relationship with your daughter sway you from a lifetime of fandom, Scott? Ridiculous."  Travis further explained, "I might have persuaded him at dinner the night before. When I met him."

At 96 years old, cabaret legend Marilyn Maye has more control, more power, more skill in her voice than any of those up-and-coming Broadway screlters could dream of. For nearly ninety minutes, she treated her audience to a non-stop singing sensation of songs requested by devoted fans. She knew her audience by name. She never sat, she never took a break, she never broke. Well over a dozen songs in one show, and not a lyric in sight. Let me tell you, I've seen many a cabaret performer come up on stage for a single number with the words in front of them, and while I know they've probably got a lot going on and one-off show rehearsals are scarce, but get on her level. The words "legend" and "icon" are thrown around with gleeful abandon in this business, but this woman is a living legend beyond description. Who among us can serve up an entirely Fats Waller set and also deliver a gutwrenching "Fifty Percent" from Ballroom? And what a laugh riot. Sharp as a tack, and not done yet. She has six more shows coming up, and each one will be a gift.

Stokes and Norm Lewis sang “Agony” from Into the Woods then Norm left the stage and Stokes sang “Feeling Good.” Nova Payton also appeared duetting on a version of “The Impossible Dream” with Norm (with Stokes calling out from the audience "DON'T FUCK IT UP NORM" lol). Nova Payton also delivered a solo performance of “Again” from an original musical that blew everyone’s socks off.

Norm Lewis’s show Summertime ran June 6-8 and June 10-13 at 54 Below with a different special guest/s each night.

Kitty Cast: Where Are They Now?

Who?

Sean played Tumblebrutus in the Cats National Tour from the relaunch in September 2021 to May 22nd, 2022. He also understudied Skimbleshanks and Mungojerrie and debuted both during his run.

Where did he go?

He left a few weeks before the tour ended to make his Broadway debut in Beetlejuice! He was cast as a vacation swing and later replacement ensemble. He is so far the only Kitty Cast member to have performed on Broadway. (x)

Where is he now?

He's on tour with Beetlejuice in the ensemble of their 1st National Tour. Initial tour dates went to October 2023 but have since been added as far as end of June 2024.

He will also be doing his first solo show at 54 Below on July 6th. (x)

Has he done anything else?

He performed in two shows at 54 Below in October and November, the full clips of which are both on Youtube (Cell Block Tango, Expressing Yourself).

He's appeared on a few podcasts (including The Wrong Cat Died), mostly while he was with Beetlejuice on Broadway. If you search his name on podcast platforms they should come up.

He also sang the national anthem at the April 29th Boston Red Sox game. (x, x)

CULTURE HAUSE: GRAMMY 2024 RECAP

The 66th Annual Grammy Awards may have been one of the best overall ceremonies in recent years give or take a few things.

JAY Z took the stage to receive the Dr. Dre Global Impact Award and when he did he candidly spoke out against the very institution that has nominated him 88 times and awarded him 26 times.

The key takeaway highlight the 1989 Boycott by Will Smith and 1998 Boycott by himself for DMX not being nominated despite Jay Z winning for Hard Knock Life Vol. 2. But essentially calling out the academy for NOT getting it right and his wife Beyoncé never winning Album of The Year despite having the most Grammys.

Marketing Moment: Jay Z as always was sitting at his table where he was served Armand De Brignac and Dussé (both which he owns) as well as Tidal being integrated with the live show appearing on the LED screens on the stage of Crypto Arena.

Victoria Monét took home Best New Artist, Best R&B Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. She spoke proudly thanking her manager Rachelle Louis for quitting her job and taking a chance on her. A decision that paid off greatly for them both.

SZA took home 3 trophies for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best R&B Song and Best Urban Contemporary Album.

Marketing Moment: A key highlight was SZA's second performance which was a strategic partnership with Mastercard where she debuted a new song 'Saturn', aside from the rare second solo performance, the partnership also integrated with Lyft where if customers use their U.S. World or World Elite Mastercard for a Lyft ride, a tree will be planted up to 500,000 trees.

Taylor Swift who has been the top of all entertainment and sports media outlets for the past year took home 2 awards with the main one being the coveted Album of The Year for her 'Midnights' album. Taylor announced a new album during her AOTY acceptance speech and will be the ongoing topic of the week leading up to Super Bowl 58 in Las Vegas where her boyfriend Travis Kielce will be competing for his 3rd title.

MARKETING MOMENT: Travis Scott performed during the ceremony but the highlight was his brand Cactus Jack x Jumpman debuting a commercial immediately following promoting his new sneaker which was aired to 16.9 million U.S. households and not including the rest of the world. Travis also quickly uploaded the commercial on his instagram page which has more than 54 million followers.

Killer Mike took all 3 hip-hop trophies for his album 'Michael' including Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance. The Atlanta native amazing night was overshadowed by him being temporarily arrested backstage for alledgely bumping into a police officer.

Last but certainly not least Lil Durk took home Best Melodic Rap Performance for his hit radio friendly single "All My Life" ft. J. Cole. A well deserved win and shows how continuous artist development, hardworking and collaboration can be rewarding. Ever since Lil Durk appeared on Drake's "Laugh Now, Cry Later" he has been on an upward swing in his career with so much more room for growth. Walking the Grammy red carpet in custom Louis Vuitton designed by Pharrell Williams.

The Dean's Notes: Holidays and global cultural moments like Grammy's, Super Bowl, Christmas, etc. are the best times to make announcements and launch products. Artist and brands are doubling and tripling down on Grammy advertising, Super Bowl advertising including Social Media, TV and the all new MSG Sphere where ad spots are costing $2million for 90 seconds of space.

In 2024 how will brands, celebrities and influencers take advantage of shifting their budgets from micro-spends for big moment opportunities? They are all fighting for as many eyeballs at once and trying to build unique messaging that could possible appeal to as many costumers as possible.

I just realized something...

and I could be wrong, he could be playing it completely normal BUT

I have felt terrible about not being able to go to literally ANYTHING Ben Fankhauser did in 2022. Either it conflicted with a work thing, I was out of town, or I knew he was featured so little in the thing that I couldn’t justify spending.

Anyway, I found out like a month ago that he was going to be one of two guest performers at a 54 Below solo show in the end of April. The solo artist is a woman from TikTok who does impressions of Broadway people. She has Broadway guests on her TikTok occasionally and they do impressions too.

Maurice Robert Hines Jr. (December 13, 1943 - December 29, 2023) was an actor, director, singer, and choreographer. He is the older brother of dancer Gregory Hines.

He was born in New York City to Alma Iola and Maurice Robert Hines Sr., a dancer, musician, and actor. He began his career at the age of five, studying tap dance at the Henry LeTang Dance Studio in Manhattan. He made his Broadway debut in The Girl in Pink Tights.

The brothers began touring as the opening act for such headliners as Lionel Hampton and Gypsy Rose Lee. Their father joined them and “Hines, Hines & Dad” performed regularly in New York, Las Vegas, and throughout Europe and on many television shows, including The Pearl Bailey Show, The Hollywood Palace, and The Tonight Show.

He decided to pursue a solo career and was cast as Nathan Detroit in Guys and Dolls, after which he returned to Broadway in Eubie!
