Reposted from @creativestudysocial 🎉We’re excited to debut a new course on Guaranteed Income as part of our Solidarity Economy series for creatives, made in partnership with Art.Coop, Creatives Rebuild New York, and Georgia Resilience and Opportunity Fund! ~~~ What is possible when you have your basic needs met? What choices would you make? What art would you make? Care, creativity, and community action are integral to a healthy society, yet many of the people doing that important work live with financial instability. Guaranteed Income could change that! ~~~ Create an account at www.creativestudy.com to access this new course for FREE!
@_artcoop @creativesrebuildny @thegrofund ~~~ The Guaranteed Income course on CreativeStudy is made possible with financial support from Creatives Rebuild New York, a project of Tides Center. Thank you to the Mellon Foundation by way of the Open Collective Foundation for financial support of the other Solidarity Economy courses.#solidarityeconomy #guaranteedincome #creatives

Quick reflection on #BlackPoundDay. These types of #BuyBlack Campaigns keep popping up in part because they are relatively easy. Easy in the sense that you don't need to build relationships with people in order to buy from them, though a relationship can be a welcome by-product. You don't build community through a series of transactions between people - even if you're all of the same ethnic group. ✊🏿 The main problem with things like Black Pound Day is that they pose absolutely no threat to the dominant Capitalist system. Consumption is an intrinsic part of the Capitalist system. We are programmed to be consumers - from cradle to grave. Buying Black is still consuming. It fits nicely within the system and in fact helps strengthen it by giving the appearance that we Africans can thrive within it. "See, look at all these black businesses, what is this White Supremacy you speak of?" It was for this very reason that the concept of Black Buying Power was created in the first place. As Dr Jared Ball breaks down so frequently and eloquently, the concept of #BlackBuyingPower was popularised by White Corporate think tanks as a way persuading Black Americans that they could indeed succeed within the system and to discourage them from bothering with confronting the system. In this sense, these Buy Black campaigns are waving the white flag of surrender (pun intended). ✊🏿 I believe that we need to engage in genuine cooperative economics. This must be grounded in relationship with one another. For example, we need to create cooperatives owned by the members/workers, in which decisions are made democratically, whose surpluses are distributed among the members and which are focused on directly benefiting our communities. We need to rediscover our rich history of mutual aid, whereby we pool our resources to help one another in time of need. Relationship not retail. Cooperation not competition. #cooperativeeconomics #groupeconomics #solidarityeconomy #mutualaid #blackouttuesday #blackliberation #panafricanism https://www.instagram.com/p/CCErn1og9JO/?igshid=mn8hlhkziyyi

rp: @resourcegeneration We *can* believe this not at all coincidence and intended result of generations of systemic white supremacy, classism, and wealth accumulation // There are more students from families in the top one percent than from the entire bottom 60 percent at Ivy Leagues and 33 additional most "selective" colleges, according to a recent report from the New York Times _ If you're at an Ivy League or selective school, you probably have some class privilege going on and should check us out: resourcegeneration.org _ Tweet by Twitter account: @ l_chitts . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #classism #class #classprivilege #racialjustice #economicjustice #richkidsofinstagram #inheritance #trustfund #trustfundbaby #socialchange #philanthropy #nonprofit #richkidsforwealthredistribution #wealth #wealthinequality #wealthredistribution #reparations #neweconomy #solidarityeconomy #incomeinequality #income #whiteprivilege #racialcapitalism #capitalism #crapitalism #socialjustice #university #ivyleague #student https://www.instagram.com/p/BnFl-3vhVxW/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1u71s2rt7tmry

peace everyone, below you will find the full quote from my talk at the Marin Center in northern Cali this past fall at the @bioneers conference repping @cooperationjxn and our emerging network of worker #cooperatives, and #solidarityeconomy institutions working to develop a #regenerativeeconomy and #participatorydemocracy in Jackson Mississippi. def feel like some jewels were shared in relation to experimenting with democratic structures and building a #sustainable community. i’ve included a link in my bio in case anyone is interested in seeing the full talk. w/ love peace and power ~brandon “this country in many ways talks about democracy, but we don’t know how to do it. it takes a deep level of patience and trust in each other that we’re going to come up with the best decision. the exploitative economy that values bosses is able to get things done quicker. when all of us get to decide, we move slower. the problem is that with climate change, we don’t have much time. so how do we hold each other? how do we be democratic? how do we learn to share resources? all of those things we’re trying in Jackson.” https://www.instagram.com/p/B7v7227gs_aWJI5edMbrbDCe-BfMiCGPo6NBg40/?igshid=1mmsxbtfj8mqz

Artwork: Quilts and Bedding, Jonathan Green
.
.
The Acres of Ancestry Initiative is excited to be working with Jonathan Green Studios for the launch of our communal e-commerce site to seed the Black Agrarian Fund. We have curated a special collection from Green’s extensive art catalogue that celebrates Black agrarian and ecocultural traditions including quiltmaking, netmaking, and tidal rice cultivation. For decades, Green has collaborated with the Penn Center in Saint Helena Island, South Carolina in the production of annual calendars featuring his artwork as a sustainable fundraising mechanism for the institution. Moreover, Green has created independent fundraising mechanisms in partnership with a range of community-based organizations including the NAACP, Colour of Music, the Native Islander Gullah Celebration, and the Lowcountry Jazz Festival.

Inauguration 2021: Democracy Needs a Democratic Economy
Premiered on 24 Jan 2021
A new administration is taking office in the midst of an unprecedented public health catastrophe and an economic crisis, and in the immediate wake the heels of one of the most polarizing presidencies in U.S. history. This episode also features excerpts from Laura’s interview with U.S. Congresswoman Karen Bass (D-CA).
Guests:
Congresswoman Karen Bass, U.S. Representative for California's 37th Congressional District
Rev. Ronnie Galvin, Managing Director of Community Investment, The Greater Washington Community Foundation
