Punky Brewster -- You're More Than Just A Fantasy!: I believe that Punky Brewster was the sole member of the '80s TV Adoptee Tykes to garner her own Saturday Morning Cartoon. "It's Punky Brewster" premiered in 1985 and introduced a dose of fantasy into her sitcom narrative in the form of Glomer, a stranded gopher/leprechaun hybrid taken into La Brewster's care, his youthful lack of skill with magic ensuing wacky adventures for her and her friends. The ultra-catchy theme song is one of the best to ever grace a Saturday Morning lineup, instantly recognizable if you heard it the first time around and patterned after the vocal stylings of Cyndi Lauper as interpreted by honey-voiced Cree Summer. Notably, this was one of the very few animated series in which the cast from its filmic incarnation lent their voices. This clipping seems significant to me now beyond merely promoting the series. There was such a vast array of animated entertainment marketed to kids at that time that I remember interviews with child psychologists and children's advocates in which they expressed concern that the kiddies wouldn't be able to distinguish actual live action from artistically-rendered storytelling.
