Fun fact about clothing. Washing them all the time after one or two wears, outside of literal soilage, is actually just a ploy by companies to get you to buy more.

I'm too broke to do laundry more than once a month so outside of undies and socks, I go like 7-10 wears before it gets washed.

He’s in the middle of taking a long drink when the girl behind him gives him quite a surprise by suddenly speaking. He jumps, nearly spills the drink down his front, but quickly leans forward to prevent soilage. Head whips round to view the sudden intruder and when he sees her… Eyes soften. Yet he’s silent, still, blinking at her like she’s a ghost. He swallows down her harsh words, chews the inside of his lower lip.

The moment the bottle is taken from them, they don’t retaliate. They don’t do much of anything, in fact, just blink at her a bit drunkenly, though they had to admit they wished they were more drunk for this…Before they can even respond, a hand is colliding with their cheek, hard enough to leave a bright red mark behind. He turns along with it, remains facing away from her, his head ducked down as he blinks a few times to recover. A slow inhale. So much harder to hide his expression now that his hair is so short…How uncomfortable. Yet he seems to have mastered the blank stare already, a lack of responsive emotion on his face even after the slap.

Head lifts and the King looks up at Leo with that same blankness, blinks at her slowy. Surely she can see the exhaustion behind weary eyes. Only she could notice the slight slump in his shoulders scarcely noticeable in his attempted confident stature. Only she would see that sparkle of grief in his soft eyes.

“You are right,” they agree after her words. A small nod of their head, lips pressing together. “I deserved that.” A beat, then their expression narrows a bit in her direction. “What would you have me do, then?”

Eyes narrow as the girl stammers and stumbles over her excuses. Yet when she settles upon simply bowing her head and begging forgiveness, he seems satisfied. Expression lightens a bit and he nods. Without a word, he returns to the carpet where he’s meant to kneel in order to be officially crowned king. Yet it seems the title already precedes him even with his historical immaturity. 

There’s an exchange of words, a proper pronouncement as given by the royal advisor before the King is given his father’s crown, placed delicately atop his head as he arises. A brief speech, vows to bring peace and prosperity, and the hope to be able to live up to his father’s name and perhaps do even better than he in his stead. To make him proud.

It’s a brief monologue that quickly follows with the dismissal of everyone to join the festivities, whether in the town or in the castle depending upon status and invite. Those near enough to the King’s council would be so lucky to enjoy the feast at the castle, experience the opening of regalia presented from the other nations, and consume enough drink to fell a horse. For most of it, the King himself stays tucked away in a far corner, watching silently as the party goes on, a far removed response from that which he might have had in the past. He had been warned by his advisor on multiple ocassions not to be caught drinking lest rumblings of his drunkenness stir up revolt toward his name due to past engagements.

As a result, they’re left hiding in a corner, sipping wine when given enough shadow to hide it from various onlookers. Of course, they weren’t expected to interact with the other partygoers, so it was hardly seen as strange for them to stand so aloof…

It isn’t until after the feast, the opening of the gifts that bring both joy and shame—regalia that come with celebration and humiliation respectively—that he’s able to slip out into the gardens to catch a break from the drunkards laughing and dancing inside, shoulder stinging from one too many congrulatory slaps on the back. He’s seated on the step, a bottle of wine in hand now that he’s been allowed enough privacy to drink it. Of course, someone would likely be rather upset should they find him back there—he wasn’t meant to run off on his own for his safety, but he didn’t much care. He was the king, was he not? Twas his choice.

“Oh, father…what have you done,” he breathes out as he stares up at the stars. Exasperation. A long gulp of wine, the bottle held up in cheers to his father’s long lived reign. “Let me be as noble as you once were…”

okay so for example I’m working on a protolang for a conlang. the protolang doesn’t have plurals but does have count nouns that can take a number, so for example:

hilak ‘animal’ - ambiguous number - ‘an animal’ ‘the animals’ or ‘animal-kind’ all work as translations depending on context

fles nas hilak owo ‘animals’ - literally ‘all heads of animal’ i.e. all the animals

but they also use the count noun whenever they are talking about any specific number... including one and zero.

fles ti hilak owo ‘one animal’ lit. ‘one head of animal’

fles oso hilak owo ‘no animals’ lit. ‘zero/no heads of animal’

i was kiiiinda planning on having these count nouns evolve into grammatical plurals in the daughter language. for example:

stilag - ‘animal (singular)‘ from fles ti hilak owo

hilak - ‘animal-kind’ from hilak

snilag - ‘animals (plural)’ from fles nas hilak owo

(forms not set in stone since i haven’t actually done the sound changes for the daughter language yet)

but then i also was thinking about... basically a grammatical number of zero???

Headcanon;; Healer’s uniform

While there is no single homogenous “look” or design for a Healer’s uniform, the following items are the most overarching garments worn by Healers as per Healing regulations & sanitary precautions for their line of work. Uniform can be suited to meet specific needs & preferences, ad are tailored to fit the specific person it is worn by, both functionally and stylistically.

Undergarments: Uniform typically begins with any type of undershirt, either short-sleeved or long-sleeved and form-fitting, and optionally a corset for extra pockets to be tied onto. Undershirts are made of cotton or linen, sometimes black or red is worn in the event of staining during work. Overshirt: on top of the undershirt is the overshirt, which is made of cotton for ease of washing. It is tailored specifically to its wearer to allow ease of movement, yet not loose to catch onto anything or get in the way. It may be thicker & warmer than the undershirt. Sleeve-coverings may also be added on to prevent spoilage of the overshirt. Breetches: From the waist down, all healers will wear high-waisted trousers to allow freedom of movement, most often worn in dark colors. They are form fitting but comfortable & not restricting, with deep pockets & hooks to allow for a belt or extra pockets to tie onto them. Padding & Mail: a layer of padded cotton & chainmail is optionally worn over the Overshirt & Breetches to protect the healer from any oncoming danger. Most often worn by combat medics. Thick, leather or hide armor may be worn in substitution for freedom of movement, though it is less effective. Full metal armor is rarely worn, as it is too restricting & unsanitary. Overcoat: worn for warmth & sanitary reasons. It is often made from leather, sometimes waxed, for sanitary purposes. Thickness, length, style, and so forth is tailored to the healer’s preference. Apron: Most Healers wear two aprons, one larger which will protect the rest of the Garb from soilage, & the other tied at the waist, with large & deep pockets to hold smaller, frequently used tools. Gloves: Healers will often have multiple pairs of gloves kept on their person, tailored specifically to fit their hands. The material is often made of linen or pig intestines, coated in a thin layer of wax. Gloves must be replaced often.
