I think Detritus should have a cat shelter. I think he'd be good at it. Like yeah he's big and intimidating but so are humans from a cat's perspective. He's gentle and kind and while he isn't that smart, you don't need to be a genius for cats to like you. You just need to understand their body language, and with how far he's come I really don't think he couldn't learn. His skin is made of rocks, so he could definitely handle bites and scratches, made in play or in earnest. I think he'd play with them. Hell, cover the man in sisal rope and he's a scratching post. I think he'd wear soft gloves so he didn't hurt them. I think he'd handfeed orphaned kittens. I think the more playful cats would bat at his cooling helmet. I think on days when he was full up and someone really needed to be adopted, he'd Stand Ominously in public places until they went to a good home. I think it'd mean a lot to him, giving these cats a better life. He knows what a better life meant to him.

Magdalena Abakanowicz, Embryology, 1978–80.
Burlap, cotton gauze, hemp rope, nylon and sisal
Approximately 800 pieces: from 4 to 250 cm long
Collection of the artist.
Among her most famous and striking works is Embryology (1978-80), which was acquired by the Tate Collection. This sculptural installation comprises hundreds of hand-sewn objects of varying sizes that are loosely stacked and scattered around the gallery to create an environment that evokes the natural landscape. Abakanowicz’s installation confronts us with an ambiguous and disturbing place between bodies and amorphous organic matter, while the title and form of the work suggest cocooned life-forms about to emerge and flourish. The textile sack-like skin and spilled interior stuffing also suggest ideas of trade and storage, particularly in the context of Tate Liverpool which is housed in a converted warehouse.
First presented at the Venice Biennial in 1980.
The Tate Gallery writes: "Embryology is a collection of objects of varying sizes, made of various rough-hewn fabrics and stuffed. When installed, the boulder-like forms are accumulated into large group environments that the viewer can walk into and around. The objects inhabit an ambiguous, disturbing place between bodies, organic matter and rock. While they appear firm and weighty, the seams and slashes in the fabric betray their softness. Their shapes are evocative of cocoon-like forms, something also suggested by the series title, Embryology. Magdalena Abakanowicz made these works to reflect on regeneration and the development of human and animal nervous systems, topics she discussed with scientists in Poland during the early 1970s. The materials and scale of this work exemplify Abakanowicz’s preoccupation with surface, texture and seriality.
Abakanowicz began her earliest cycle of these artworks, called the Abakans, during the 1960s. These objects were the product of the conditions in which the artist lived in Soviet-controlled Poland: in one room, with limited access to materials, the soft objects were woven using threads pulled from discarded ropes. Having previously made gouaches on canvas which she kept folded under her bed, Abakanowicz was able to store the large-scale sisal pieces in the same way. The artist’s active use of a technique more commonly associated with a craft tradition is a central concern of these works, which stage the tension between hard and soft as well as monumentality and a poverty of means.
The artist has described the Abakans as ‘Monumental, strong, soft and erotic’ (Magdalena Abakanowicz, ‘Reflections’, in Institut Valencià d’Art Modern 2008, p.97). Historically they have been shown individually or installed in groups to create an environment. Resembling both organic and bodily forms, they vary in colour and shape. Made in 1969, Abakan Red (Tate T12979) is suspended from the ceiling, falling in folds that appear both vaginal and suggestive of a great protective cape. Abakan Orange 1971 (Tate T12980) consists of a long orange rope-like form hanging from the ceiling, gradually diminishing in width to a thin thread connected to a large, roughly circular shape draped on the floor. Here the horizontal and vertical are held in tension in a dramatic interdependent connection.
The seriality of Embryology is also replicated in Backs 2009 (Tate T12981), a group of humanoid figures shown hunched over, their spines towards the viewer. The figures appear pensive but also abject; it is unclear if they are bent in prayer or subjugation. The artist has described the work: ‘people who saw the Backs would ask: “Is it Auschwitz?” “Is it a religious ceremony in Peru?” “Is it a dance of Ramayana?” The answer to these questions is affirmative, because it speaks about the human condition in general’ (Abakanowicz, ‘Reflections’, in Institut Valencià d’Art Modern 2008, p.98)."

Best Beaches of Mexico To Visit in 2023
Are you looking for an unforgettable beach vacation in Mexico next year?
With its pristine white sand, crystal-clear water, and tropical climate, Mexico is home to some of the world's most beautiful beaches.
From secluded coves to bustling party spots, here are some of the best beaches in Mexico to visit in 2023.
Playa Sisal
Located on the Yucatan peninsula in the Gulf of Mexico, this breathtaking beach is perfect for swimming, snorkeling, kayaking and other water sports.
As well, Playa Sisal has turquoise waters that are crystal clear and pristine white sand that stretches up to two kilometers along the shoreline. It has numerous reefs that offer excellent spots for scuba diving and fishing.
Basically, the ancient city of Tulum is located just north of Playa Sisal and offers a glimpse into Mayan culture and history through its amazing archaeological sites and structures.
Tips: The best part about Playa Sisal is its incredible seafood. From grilled shrimp to fresh ceviche, you can enjoy mouthwatering meals right by the beach!
Cancun
Cancun is not just any barrier island off the southeast coast of Mexico; it's an absolute paradise packed with rich history and jaw-dropping beauty.
From the moment you step onto its beaches, you'll be entranced by the breathtaking views of the turquoise Caribbean Sea and golden sands that stretch for miles. But there's more to Cancun than just its beaches.
We highly recommend the tranquil and less crowded Playa Chac Mool for families or couples seeking solitude. Meanwhile, Playa Delfines offers the best opportunity to spot playful dolphins in crystal-clear waters.
But that's not all - you can also explore the underwater museum at Isla Mujeres, where you'll be mesmerized by the unique and awe-inspiring sculptures.
Playa Carrizalillo (Puerto Escondido)
Of course, you might want to escape the crowds and find a secluded and serene place to relax. Playa Carrizalillo is the perfect spot for that.
Tucked away in Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca, this crescent-shaped beach boasts turquoise waters and breathtaking views.
To reach Playa Carrizalillo, you must walk down and then back up around 155 stairs, but the journey is worth it. Once you arrive, you can relax on the soft sands and enjoy the beautiful views.
Tips: Playa Carrizalillo isn't just a beach for regular beachgoers; it's also a popular place for beginners and intermediate surfers to go surfing. Surfboards can be rented from one of the many surf shacks on the beach for 150 MXN per hour. You can rent shortboards, longboards, and bodyboards when you arrive.
Playa del Carmen beaches
Playa del Carmen is a beach town that has gained popularity recently for its stunning beaches, vibrant culture, and rich history.
As you walk along the palm-lined beaches, you can't help but feel the cool breeze coming from the turquoise waters of the Caribbean Sea.
The city was once a Mayan fishing village known as Xaman Ha, which means "waters of the North." It was a significant trading center and religious site for the ancient Mayan civilization. Today, you can explore the remnants of this ancient culture by visiting the Mayan ruins of Tulum or Chichen Itza.
Tips: The fastest way to travel from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen is via ferry, which will take 35 minutes to reach your destination.
Costa Maya
Costa Maya, located on Mexico's east coast, used to be undeveloped until a large pier was built, attracting a lot of beachgoers.
The region maintains a beautiful balance between traditional Mayan identity and modernity, making it a recommended beach for tourists.
Tourists can experience costumed Mayan entertainers, Mayan architecture, luxury shopping, beach clubs, and restaurants.
Divers should go to the underwater wonderland of Banco Chinchorro, and history buffs should check out Dzibanch, Kinich-Na, and Kohunlich, three underrated Mayan ruins in the area.
Punta Mita, Riviera Nayarit
Punta Mita is a luxurious paradise located in the Mexican Riviera Nayarit, just a short drive away from Sayulita
What sets Punta Mita apart from other beach destinations in Mexico is the abundance of five-star hotels, luxury vacation rentals, and world-class golf courses.
Whether you prefer modern, minimalist, tropical, or rustic lodging, Punta Mita offers upscale oceanfront views that take your breath away.
Punta Mita Ocean Sports allows you to go sport fishing, kayaking, whale watching, surfing, paddleboarding, sailing, diving, snorkeling, swimming with dolphins, and more.
Aside from the beach activities, Punta Mita has a bird sanctuary nearby. You can also explore recreational trails that abound in the landscape.
Playa Balandra (La Paz)
Playa Balandra is an stunning beach in Baja California Sur State, about one hour from La Paz, Mexico. Its crystal clear waters and brilliant white sandy beaches make it a popular spot for swimming, snorkelling and kayaking.
One of the most iconic features that make Playa Balandra unique is the "mushroom rock" on the beach's north side – it's a must-see!
Tips: due to its growing popularity on social media, it's essential to arrive early to secure a spot at the beach. Both the parking lots and the beach itself tend to fill up quickly,
Sayulita
This secluded beach is rarely crowded, so it's a great place to get away from the busyness of Playa Sayulita.
We all know it's also a great spot to catch the sunset, but be sure to have a secure way to get back to town after dark.
Sayulita is a sleepy beach village about 26 miles northwest of Puerto Vallarta, known for its world-class beaches and water activities.
Surfing is a popular activity among locals, with Playa Carricitos being the mecca for experienced surfers and surf schools available for beginners.
Tips: To get to Playa Sayulita, you can take a taxi, rent a car, or book a private transfer from the airport.
La Lancha
Visitors to Playa La Lancha are greeted with an idyllic paradise of white sands and clear waters. It's the ideal spot for an adventure-filled getaway, offering both surfboard rentals and lessons and incredible photography opportunities.
Basically, the waves here are perfect for surfing but can be too strong for swimming. There's even a tree that provides a shady spot for photos.
Those looking to explore further can take a hike down from the highway, but do so with caution - the beach is located near swamps which can be home to crocodiles during certain times of the year.
Tips : Getting there is easy; visitors can take a bus or Uber straight to the OXXO convenience store nearby, park in the lot across the highway, and make their way over on foot.
Wrap Up
Now that you are familiar with some of the best beaches Mexico offers, it's time to start planning your 2023 vacation! Taking a trip to a beach paradise can be just what you need for a mid-year reset.
Whether you want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life or spend some quality time with friends and family in a tropical paradise, these best Mexican beaches will make your journey memorable.

Stiles knew Peter was deranged, but he didn’t know he was this bad. His wrists twinged in pain, the skin rubbed raw and bleeding from the rope. Peter just had to use sisal rope. Granted, it had been lying around the loft -don’t ask why, Derek just had it. Stiles had gotten too comfortable with the once-alpha. He had other things to worry about -like the giant horde of fairies preying on dumb kids. Plus, Peer hadn’t been doing anything to put himself on Stiles’ radar.
But he certainly was now.
His ankles were crossed and tied with the fibrous rope as well, the rough texture digging into his soft skin any time he moved. At least the gag in his mouth was cotton. He’d been so caught off guard when Peter walked up behind him on the couch and grabbed his jaw. He mostly just flailed and made broken attempts to tell Peter off. But then the cotton was shoved into his mouth, so far back he nearly gagged. More fabric than he could hold, and no matter how hard Stiles fought, the werewolf just kept stuffing it in!
And then another piece was tied around his head, and there was no way Stiles could spit it all out. His hands were retched behind his back, tied with rope too tight. “Fight me all you want,” Peter had growled, yanking Stiles until he was on the floor before wrapping the rest of the rope around his ankles. “You’re just going to tire yourself out.”
Stiles had screamed through the gag, hoping he was loud enough for one of the pack members to hear, but he knew -even as he continued to shout his throat raw- that everyone was too far away to hear him.
The road became bumpy thirty minutes after Peter folded him into the trunk. Which meant they’d left city limits. Stiles had kept track of the turns, and knew they were in the preserve. The part that the rest of the pack had already searched and left. The pack was searching north of Woodland pond, and based on what Stiles could figure from the twists and turns, Peter was taking them south, towards the old Hale house.
Stiles kicked at the back seat, grunting and shouting through the gag. He knew he couldn’t fight off Peter, but he could destroy his car. He kicked some more, but the back seat didn’t cave, so he forced himself to roll around. It was a tight fit, and he dinged his knees more than anything, but he grunted through the pain and started kicking at the taillight.
It took three well measured kicks before it dislodged. Evening sunlight filtered in through the hole in the trunk, the taillight dangling from the wires. There was no point in waving a hand out of the hole for help -they were alone on the dirt road, and Stiles’ hands were tied behind him.
Instead, he hooked the heel of his shoe onto the opening and pulled his foot out. The shoe dropped and Stiles let out a breath. Hopefully someone in the pack would find it and come rescue Stiles. A few minutes later, he dropped the other one.
The car slowed down on the winding turns, and Stiles knew they’d made it to the driveway. That was good. Stiles knew where the Hale house was, so he knew how to get back. If Peter had kept going down the dirt road, further into the preserve, he would be completely lost.
The car rolled to a stop and the engine cut off. Stiles braced himself when the trunk was opened. Peter scowled down at Stiles, clicking his tongue as he kneed the dangling taillight. “That wasn’t very nice, Stiles.”
Stiles was gagged, but that didn’t stop him from giving Peter a piece of his mind. Peter may not be able to understand him, but Stiles knew what he was saying, and for the moment that was all he needed. Peter huffed, rolling his eyes as he reached in and lifted Stiles out of the trunk.
He wriggled in the werewolf’s hold, but Peter just slung him over his shoulder and slammed the trunk shut. The shoulder in Stiles’ gut punched out what little fight he had, making it hard to breathe.
“Do you know how long I’ve had to wait for this moment?” Peter asked conversationally. He climbed the stairs to the dilapidated house, one arm slung around the back of Stiles’ legs to keep him still while the other reached for the door. “To sit by and watch you play emissary to a pack as undeserving as Scott’s?”
There was a scoff to his name, and Stiles felt himself bristle. What was wrong with Scott? He was a true alpha!
The house still stank like smoke and fire, now underlaid with wildlife and decomposing leaves. The roof had collapsed over the winter, leaving even more of the once beautiful mansion to the elements. Peter stepped over slabs of roofing and piles of what Stiles assumed was dead birds and rodents so far in their decomposition they looked more like piles of dirt and grit than animal.
“Fortunately for you, I’m a patient man,” Peter continued. “I knew I couldn't win a fight against a true alpha, and even if I could, there’s no way of knowing if I’d get his spark. No one’s fought a true alpha and lived to tell. So I waited.”
Peter carried Stiles to the once-living room and deposited Stiles gently onto the old sofa. The fabric was fraying, falling apart and scorched. Stiles couldn’t tell what color it once was. It smelled like death and piss, and Stiles didn’t even want to think about what was living in the cushions. Rusty springs dug into Stiles’ back and arms. He couldn't shift without them digging further into his skin and giving him tetanus.
“Thanks to Scott and his need to give everyone a second chance, I got exactly what I wanted,” Peter said with a grin, mouth full of too-sharp teeth as he made his way to the fireplace. Stiles’ eyebrows furrowed in confusion. He didn’t know what Peter did, and that was somehow worse than knowing. He hadn’t been keeping as close an eye on the werewolf than he thought he was.
Peter knelt in front of the fireplace, adding old wood and pieces of the ceiling inside. His smirk widened at Stiles’ confused look. “Alpha Reid was easy to kill once I severed the bonds with his betas.”
Stiles’ eyes widened. Alpha Reid had come to Beacon Hills, challenging Derek for his territory -only to find out it was Scott who was alpha now. It had been a crazy few days, but no one had been hurt on either side, and in the end, after Scott beat him in a petty one-on-one fight for dominance, alpha Reid had taken off. His small pack of 4 had tucked tail and ran after him.
That was two weeks ago. If what Peter was implying was true, that meant he had been an alpha for the last two weeks and nobody knew it. As if reading Stiles’ mind, Peter flashed his eyes, the ice blue of his irises shifting to alpha red.
“What the fuck did you do?” Stiles demanded. With the gag in his mouth, it sounded more like: “Whuh uh uu i uu oo?”
Peter reached into his back pocket and pulled out a little matchbook. It was from the Jungle; given to the patrons with a condom if they asked the bartender. Peter struck the match against the back of the box, watching the flame catch before setting it and the box into the fireplace.
“It’s not a secret,” Peter said, standing to his feet and making his way back to the couch. “I’ve always wanted you in my pack. Long before that night in the parking garage.”
Stiles was all too familiar with Peter’s feelings for him. Unrequited as they were, Peter didn’t shy away from making them known any chance he got.
Comments and strategically placed hands, keeping his feelings to the front of Stiles’ mind whenever he could. A threat as well as a promise, and it looked like Peter was making good on his word.
Stiles struggled to put more space between them. Sure, Peter had dropped it the first time he’d asked Stiles if he wanted the bite, but it had been years, and Stiles knew that wouldn’t be the case this time. If he bit Stiles now, he’d be Peters, the same way Scott had been. He was stronger now, and Stiles had no doubt in his mind that Peter could control Stiles far easier than he’d tried to control Scott.
He shook his head, mumbling his dissent through spit-soaked fabric. Peter knelt down in front of the couch, setting his hands on Stiles and squeezing him.
“There’s no way I’m letting you go this time,” Peter murmured, his eyes blazing red and teeth elongating. “You belong to me, Stiles. You always have.”
He reached forward and brushed his fingers through Stiles’ hair. Stiles yanked his head back. The fire crackled, the flame spreading and burning brighter. The light flickered across the side of Peter’s face, casting everything into an eerie glow.
Claws bit into Stiles’ jaw as Peter pulled his head down, forcing their eyes level. “Think of all the possibilities,” he hummed. “Scott’s been holding you back. Think of how powerful you could be at my side.”
“Eat shit,” Stiles spat. It came out closer to: “Ee iid.” But the message got through in his tone alone. Peter just smiled.
“You don’t want it now, but trust me, Stiles.” The fingers at his jaw tightened. Stiles felt the skin break and winced, biting down on the gag. “You’re gonna wish you’d taken my offer the first time.”
The bite came too quick for Stiles to react. Peter had yanked his head to the side and leaned in close, biting down hard on the meaty part of Stiles’ shoulder. He screamed through the gag in pain. It was a bone deep ache that shot through his entire nervous system. Acidic in the way it seeped into his muscle. His skin grew hot instantly, the blood dribbling from the wound nearly scorching.
Tears blurred his vision and Stiles struggled to breathe as he felt Peter’s teeth unlatch from his skin. He lapped at the wound, further irritating it in his quest to clean it, and Stiles writhed.
“There,” Peter murmured, pulling back and licking the blood from his lips. Stiles’ blood. “You’ll see, Stiles.”
Peter stood up, brushing his fingers through Stiles’ hair almost lovingly as Stiles sobbed through the gag, sweat pooling at his hairline and blood soaking through his shirt. Peter leaned down and pressed his lips to Stiles’ forehead, keeping his hand in his hair. “You’re going to enjoy being my beta,” he promised. “I’m going to give you the world, challenge that brilliant mind of yours, and you're going to love me for it.”
With that, Stiles was left alone. He didn’t know where Peter went. Couldn’t focus on anything but the pain that radiated from his shoulder and took over his entire body. If this was what Scott had gone through that night, it was shocking he’d managed to make it home at all.
It felt like an eternity before Peter came back into the room. He added more wood to the fireplace before checking in on Stiles.
He forced Stiles to open his eyes. He dipped his nose into Stiles’ neck, licking at the wound, which had slowed its bleeding. He scented for infection, seeing if the bite was taking. The smile he wore when he straightened told Stiles it was.
“You’re going to be a beautiful ‘wolf,” Peter murmured, walking over to the fireplace and reaching for something on the floor. Stiles hadn’t noticed it through all the debris when they’d first gotten here. One end was stuck in the fire, and Peter pulled it out. The end was glowing orange, and Stiles’ heartbeat picked up pace. It looked like a branding iron.
“The bite makes you mine,” Peter said, walking back towards the couch. The iron smoked through the air, something sizzle-popping. “Any werewolf with a nose will smell me on you. But this-”
Peter waved the iron around in the air, leaving a trail of light in its wake, even as the orange glow began to fade. “This brand will distinguish you from everyone else. A witch’s knot. Much more appealing than Derek’s triskele, don’t you think?”
Stiles whimpered against the gag, shaking his head and fidgeting on the sofa. He was in so much pain, moving even a little hurt. But he had to try to get away. He couldn’t just lay there and take it.
“The bite is taking. You’re turning already. The wolfsbane will keep this one from healing during the transformation.”
Stiles fought as best he could as Peter ripped the front of his shirt open. He shouted and kicked as the hot iron was brought down to his chest, but nothing stopped Peter from branding him. He burned the skin just below his right collarbone. Held him down with his free hand while Stiles screamed and thrashed, sobbing and gagging. The smell of burnt flesh must’ve brought Peter horrible memories, but he didn’t show it.
He held the hot iron to Stiles’ flesh for a count of five, which felt more like hours to Stiles, and then dropped the iron to the ground. Stiles could smell the wolfsbane embedded in his skin from where it had been burned onto the iron. He couldn’t before.
“Look at those eyes,” Peter murmured, holding Stiles’ chin, angling his face. Stiles couldn’t tell what his eyes were doing. They must be glowing, he thought in disdain. Pain and exhaustion threatened to drag Stiles under. He was honestly upset it hadn’t earlier. A clawed finger cut the gag from around Stiles’ head and Peter reached in to pull the extra fabric free. Stiles gasped and sobbed, his body trembling.
“It hurts,” he sobbed, unable to help himself. He was overwhelmed with pain. He couldn’t focus on anything but. He didn’t fight Peter when he pulled him forward, shoving Stiles’ nose into the side of Peter’s neck. The ropes around his wrists were cut, and Stiles’ arms reached forward, curling around Peter, if only to hold onto something. He couldn’t take this much pain.
“Shh, I know, sweetheart, I know,” Peter cooed, settling a hand on the back of Stiles’ neck and forcing him deeper into Peter’s skin. “Deep breathes now, Stiles. Go on, take a deep breath.”
Stiles did, inhaling through his nose. The scent was strong and intoxicating. It seemed to spread from his nose throughout his whole body, a balm for every hurt and ache. The pain flared again on his exhale, so he shifted even closer, his mouth open as he rubbed against the side of Peter’s neck, instinctively knowing that doing so would make the scent stronger.
“There you go, that’s a good boy,” Peter murmured, holding Stiles tight against him. His scent was fucking with his head, but he couldn’t stop. He needed it. He mouthed at the side of Peter’s neck, his whimpers turning more animalistic as time went. His body stopped hurting, his wounds healing over, and only the brand scarring.
“This is what I should’ve done with Scott, when he began to turn,” Peter spoke softly, rubbing Stiles’ back through his tattered shirt, his other hand still in Stiles’ hair. “I wasn’t in the right state of mind then. If I had been, maybe things would’ve turned out differently.”
Stiles’ eyes fluttered closed, his face buried in the sweet spot of Peter’s neck. The scent was soothing. It calmed him better than his meds did. There wasn’t a smell he could really identify beyond alpha, mine, safe. He was in too deep to question it. Peter’s words weren’t quite registering either, and Stiles knew he should care about that, but his alpha’s tone was soft and lilting, and Stiles was tired.
Peter laid him back down on the couch and Stiles whimpered at the loss, but Peter didn’t go far. He fingered the brand on Stiles’ chest as sleep slowly pulled the new werewolf under. He was still talking long after Stiles fell asleep.

Essential Cat Care Products: A Comprehensive Guide
Caring for a cat goes beyond just providing food and water. To ensure your feline friend lives a happy, healthy, and fulfilling life, it’s important to have the right cat care products on hand. Whether you're a new cat owner or an experienced one, having essential items for grooming, health, and comfort can make all the difference in your pet’s well-being. This comprehensive guide will walk you through the must-have for taking the best cat care products.
1. Food and Water Bowls
A basic but essential part of any cat’s care is having the right food and water bowls. Choose bowls that are easy to clean and made from safe materials such as stainless steel or ceramic. Avoid plastic bowls, as they can harbor bacteria and cause allergic reactions in some cats.
Food Bowls: Select a bowl that suits your cat’s eating habits. For fast eaters, a slow-feed bowl can help prevent overeating and digestive issues.
Water Fountains: Cats prefer running water, and a water fountain encourages hydration, which is vital for their kidney health.
2. Litter Box and Litter
One of the most important cat care products you’ll need is a litter box. Make sure the box is large enough for your cat to move around comfortably. There are different types of litter boxes, including standard, covered, and self-cleaning versions, depending on your preference and your cat’s habits.
Litter Choices: Clumping litter is popular because it makes cleaning easier. You can also choose from biodegradable, scented, or unscented options based on your and your cat’s preferences.
Litter Mats: Place a mat under the litter box to catch any stray litter your cat may track outside of the box. This helps keep your home clean and your cat's paws dirt-free.
3. Cat Bed
Every cat needs a cozy place to rest. While some cats prefer lounging on furniture or cozy corners, having a dedicated cat bed gives them a sense of security and comfort. Look for a bed that is soft, washable, and sized appropriately for your cat.
Heated Beds: If your cat enjoys warmth, consider a heated bed to keep them cozy, especially during the colder months. Heated beds can provide extra comfort for older cats or those with joint issues.
4. Cat Grooming Products
Regular grooming is essential to keep your cat’s coat healthy and to reduce shedding and hairballs. Cats groom themselves, but they still need a little help from you, especially long-haired breeds.
Brushes and Combs: For short-haired cats, a rubber grooming brush can help remove loose hair. Long-haired cats may need a slicker brush or comb to prevent tangles and mats.
Nail Clippers: Trimming your cat’s nails every few weeks is important to prevent overgrowth and reduce the risk of scratching. Look for cat-specific nail clippers that are easy to handle.
Cat Wipes and Shampoo: Occasionally, you may need to clean your cat, especially if they get into something messy. Use cat-specific wipes or shampoo to clean their fur safely without irritating their skin.
5. Cat Scratching Posts
Scratching is a natural behavior for cats. It helps them stretch, mark their territory, and maintain healthy claws. A sturdy scratching post is essential for keeping your cat from scratching up furniture.
Variety of Textures: Cats love to scratch different surfaces, so offering a variety of textures like sisal, carpet, or wood can keep them entertained. Some scratching posts also double as climbing towers, offering playtime and exercise.
6. Toys for Mental and Physical Stimulation
Cats need mental and physical stimulation to stay happy and healthy. Toys that engage their hunting instincts, such as feather wands, balls, and laser pointers, provide them with entertainment and exercise.
Interactive Toys: Automated toys or puzzle feeders are great for keeping your cat occupied while you’re away, encouraging them to solve problems or chase moving objects.
Catnip Toys: Many cats respond to catnip by becoming playful and active, making catnip toys a fun addition to their play routine.
7. Cat Carriers
A sturdy cat carrier is a must for trips to the vet or for traveling with your cat. Choose a carrier that is well-ventilated, secure, and comfortable for your cat to sit or lie down in during transport.
Soft-Sided vs. Hard-Sided Carriers: Soft-sided carriers are lighter and more flexible, ideal for short trips. Hard-sided carriers are more durable and provide extra protection for longer journeys or for nervous cats.
8. Health and Wellness Products
Keeping your cat healthy is a top priority, and there are various health and wellness products available to support their well-being.
Flea and Tick Prevention: Regularly use flea and tick preventatives to protect your cat from pests that can cause irritation or transmit diseases.
Supplements: Some cats may benefit from dietary supplements, such as omega-3 fatty acids for a healthy coat or joint supplements for older cats.
Conclusion
Providing your cat with the right care products is key to ensuring they live a long, happy, and healthy life. From food and water essentials to grooming and playtime, these products help cater to your cat's physical and emotional needs. Whether you're buying a new scratching post or stocking up on grooming supplies, having the right items on hand makes cat care much easier and more enjoyable.
If you're looking for high-quality cat care products or want to buy cat supplies online, Critter Wags offers a wide range of items to keep your feline friend happy and healthy. With the right care and attention, you can create a loving environment where your cat can thrive.

Shopping for rugs online has become a preferred method for homeowners and designers alike. Here’s why:
Convenience: One of the biggest benefits of using an online rugs store is the convenience it provides. You can browse countless styles, sizes, and materials without leaving your home, saving time and effort. Whether you’re in the market for a large living room rug or a small runner for your hallway, you can find exactly what you need in just a few clicks.
Wide Selection: Online stores offer a much larger variety of rugs compared to physical stores. Whether you’re looking for a hand-woven piece from Turkey or a budget-friendly synthetic option, you’ll have more choices than you would at a traditional rug retailer. Additionally, online rug stores often carry exclusive designs and international collections that aren’t easily available elsewhere.
Comparative Shopping: Online shopping allows you to compare prices, styles, and customer reviews across multiple websites. You can take your time, check out different retailers, and find the best deal without any pressure from salespeople. Plus, most online rugs stores provide detailed product descriptions, including material, size, and care instructions, making it easier to make an informed decision.
Affordable Prices: Online stores typically have lower overhead costs than physical locations, allowing them to offer competitive prices. You’ll often find deals, discounts, and promotions that make purchasing a high-quality rug more affordable. Additionally, you can filter your search to match your budget, helping you find a beautiful rug at a price that suits your needs.
How to Choose the Perfect Rug from an Online Store
Selecting the right rug for your home involves more than just finding a design you like. Consider the following factors to ensure you make the best choice for your space:
Size Matters: Before making a purchase, measure the area where you want to place the rug. A rug that’s too small can make a room feel disjointed, while one that’s too large can overwhelm the space. A common rule of thumb is to ensure that all your furniture fits comfortably on the rug or at least that the front legs of your furniture are placed on it. Most online rugs stores offer size guides to help you make the right decision.
Material and Durability: The material of the rug plays a significant role in its look, feel, and longevity. Common materials include:
Wool: Known for its durability and natural softness, wool rugs are great for high-traffic areas like living rooms and hallways.
Cotton: Lightweight and easy to clean, cotton rugs are ideal for casual spaces like kitchens or playrooms.
Synthetic Fibers (Nylon, Polyester, Acrylic): These rugs are often more affordable and resistant to stains, making them perfect for busy households with pets or children.
Jute and Sisal: These natural fiber rugs offer a more rustic and eco-friendly look, ideal for creating texture in a room.
Style and Color: Consider the existing decor in your home when choosing a rug. Do you want the rug to be a bold statement piece, or do you prefer it to blend seamlessly with your furniture and accessories? If your space has neutral tones, a vibrant rug with patterns or bright colors can add interest. Alternatively, if your room already features bold design elements, a simple, neutral rug may be the best choice.
Pile Height: The pile height refers to the thickness of the rug's fibers. Low-pile rugs (such as flatweaves) are great for high-traffic areas or spaces where furniture will be placed on top. High-pile rugs (such as shag rugs) are plush and cozy, making them ideal for bedrooms or living rooms where comfort is key.
Ease of Maintenance: It’s important to consider how easy the rug will be to clean and maintain, especially if it will be placed in a high-traffic area. Some materials, like wool and synthetic blends, are more stain-resistant, while others, like cotton or silk, may require more delicate care.
Tips for a Successful Rug Purchase Online
Shopping for a rug online can be a seamless experience if you follow these key tips:
Read Customer Reviews: One of the advantages of shopping at an online rugs store is that you can read reviews from other buyers. These reviews often provide helpful insights into the rug’s quality, color accuracy, and durability.
Check the Return Policy: Make sure the store offers a return policy that allows you to return or exchange the rug if it doesn’t meet your expectations. Many online rug stores offer flexible return policies, but it’s always good to check the details before you buy.
Look for Free Shipping: Shipping large rugs can be costly, so look for an online store that offers free shipping or discounted rates. Many online rugs stores have promotions that include free shipping on orders over a certain amount, which can help you save.
Order a Sample: If the store offers samples, consider ordering a small swatch of the rug before committing to a full-size purchase. This allows you to see the color, texture, and quality up close before making a final decision.
Conclusion: Upgrade Your Home with a Rug from an Online Rugs Store
An online rugs store offers unmatched convenience, selection, and value, making it the perfect place to find the right rug for your home. By considering the size, material, and style of the rug, as well as taking advantage of customer reviews and store policies, you can make an informed decision that will enhance the beauty of your space. Whether you’re looking to add a pop of color or create a cozy atmosphere, the perfect rug is just a few clicks away.

10 Minimalist Japandi Bedroom Concepts for a Serene Sanctuary
The Japandi design style is rapidly becoming a favorite in modern interiors, blending the serene minimalism of Japanese aesthetics with the cozy functionality of Scandinavian design. A Japandi bedroom is a haven of calm, emphasizing simplicity, natural materials, and soft, neutral tones. In this guide, we’ll share ten stunning Japandi bedroom ideas to help you transform your space into a tranquil retreat.
What is Japandi Style?
Japandi is the perfect fusion of Japanese and Scandinavian design philosophies. Rooted in the principles of minimalism, it prioritizes clean lines, functional spaces, and natural materials. Japandi creates an atmosphere of peaceful elegance, where clutter is eliminated, and every piece serves both aesthetic and practical purposes.
Key Elements of Japandi Design:
Natural Materials: Wood, bamboo, stone, and organic fabrics bring warmth and texture.
Simple Lines: Furniture is sleek and unembellished.
Neutral Color Palette: Muted tones like beige, gray, and earth colors dominate.
Functional Design: Every piece of furniture is purposeful and simple.
Minimalist Decor: Thoughtful, restrained decor often includes greenery to add life to the space.
Essential Components of a Japandi Bedroom
A Japandi bedroom is designed to be both visually serene and highly functional. The key components include:
Natural Materials: Wooden furniture, stone accents, and soft fabrics like linen and cotton.
Neutral Colors: Use calming tones such as soft whites, grays, and beige to evoke peace.
Minimalist Furniture: Low-profile, clean-lined furniture that prioritizes function and form.
Greenery: A few indoor plants add natural beauty and balance.
Soft Textures & Warm Lighting: Cozy textiles and soft lighting help create a relaxed ambiance.
10 Stunning Japandi Bedroom Ideas
1. Minimalist Wooden Bed Frame
A low-profile wooden bed frame is a quintessential element of Japandi bedrooms. Opt for natural materials like oak or bamboo for warmth and a minimalist aesthetic. Platform beds are ideal as they capture the simplicity of Japanese futons with the Scandinavian approach to functionality and comfort.
2. Neutral, High-Quality Bedding
Choose luxurious, neutral bedding in shades of beige, off-white, or light gray. Opt for natural fabrics like linen or cotton, which not only feel comfortable but also add subtle texture to the space. Layer bedding with minimal, cozy throws and pillows for a touch of Scandinavian "hygge."
3. Japanese Shoji Screens for Elegance and Privacy
Shoji screens—made from wood and rice paper—are a beautiful way to create room divisions while letting light pass through softly. They add a traditional Japanese element to your bedroom and provide an elegant, functional way to section off areas like a reading nook or dressing area.
4. Low Seating Area with Tatami Mats or Floor Cushions
Create a low seating area using floor cushions or tatami mats, common in Japanese interiors. This encourages a grounded, mindful experience while adding intimacy to the space. Pair it with a low wooden table for a space that’s perfect for morning tea or quiet meditation.
5. Natural Fiber Rugs for Comfort and Warmth
Natural fiber rugs, such as those made from jute, sisal, or wool, add a layer of warmth and texture to your bedroom. They align with the Japandi focus on organic materials and work well to anchor the room’s color palette. Choose neutral shades that complement the overall simplicity.
6. Minimalist Lighting with Clean Lines
For lighting, select fixtures with clean, modern lines—think wall-mounted sconces or minimalist pendant lights. Natural materials such as wood or metal in matte finishes enhance the Japandi aesthetic. Opt for warm, ambient lighting that complements the serene feel of the room.
7. Greenery for a Touch of Nature
Bringing the outside in is a key principle of Japandi design. A few well-placed plants—like bonsai trees, ferns, or snake plants—can enhance the room’s natural feel. They add both visual interest and a sense of tranquility, promoting harmony with nature, a concept rooted in both Japanese and Scandinavian cultures.
8. Built-In Storage to Minimize Clutter
Japandi spaces thrive on simplicity, so built-in storage solutions are perfect for maintaining a clean, uncluttered look. Use under-bed storage, floating shelves, or minimalist wardrobes in natural wood tones to blend seamlessly into the room while keeping things organized.
9. Muted Artwork and Minimal Decor
Choose artwork in neutral tones, such as monochromatic landscapes or minimalist prints, to subtly enhance your Japandi bedroom. Keep frames simple—natural wood or black metal are ideal—so that the artwork enhances the calm atmosphere without overpowering the space.
10. Sliding Doors for a Streamlined Look
Sliding doors in wood or frosted glass create a modern, streamlined look while saving space. They reflect the simplicity and practicality that are essential to Japandi design, enhancing the room’s open, airy feel without compromising functionality.
Achieving the Japandi Bedroom Look on a Budget
Creating a Japandi bedroom doesn’t have to be expensive. Here are some budget-friendly tips:
DIY Furniture Updates: Refresh old furniture with a coat of neutral paint or by replacing hardware with minimalist alternatives.
Thrifted Finds: Search for second-hand furniture that can be upcycled to fit the Japandi aesthetic.
Affordable Decor: Find affordable decor made from natural materials or create simple DIY pieces to add personal touches to the space.
Common Mistakes to Avoid in Japandi Design
To maintain the elegance and simplicity of Japandi design, avoid these common pitfalls:
Overloading the Room: Keep your space airy and clutter-free; avoid overcrowding with unnecessary decor.
Using Bold Colors: Stick to neutral and muted tones to preserve the minimalist and calming nature of Japandi design.
Imbalance Between Styles: Make sure to balance Japanese minimalism with Scandinavian warmth, combining the best elements of both without leaning too heavily in one direction.
Conclusion
A Japandi bedroom offers a harmonious blend of Japanese minimalism and Scandinavian functionality, creating the perfect environment for relaxation and peace. By focusing on natural materials, clean lines, and a neutral color palette, you can transform your bedroom into a soothing retreat.

In Australia, the variety of rugs available reflects the country’s diverse tastes and preferences, from traditional designs to contemporary styles. This guide explores the types, benefits, and considerations of Rugs in Australia, helping you choose the perfect one for your home.
Tumblr media
Types of Rugs
Traditional Rugs: Traditional rugs are known for their intricate patterns and rich colors, often reflecting historical and cultural influences. These rugs, including Persian, Oriental, and Afghan styles, add a touch of elegance and timeless charm to any room.
Modern Rugs: Modern rugs feature contemporary designs and abstract patterns that can enhance the look of modern interiors. They often use bold colors and geometric shapes, making them a popular choice for minimalist and urban spaces.
Natural Fiber Rugs: Made from materials like wool, cotton, jute, and sisal, natural fiber rugs are known for their durability and eco-friendliness. Wool rugs, in particular, are prized for their softness and resilience, while jute and sisal offer a natural, rustic look.
Synthetic Rugs: Synthetic rugs, made from materials such as nylon, polyester, and polypropylene, are often more affordable and easier to maintain. They are resistant to stains and wear, making them suitable for high-traffic areas.
Custom Rugs: For those seeking a unique design, custom rugs offer the opportunity to create a one-of-a-kind piece tailored to specific dimensions, colors, and patterns. This option allows for personalized styling that perfectly complements your decor.
Benefits of Rugs
Aesthetic Appeal: Rugs enhance the visual appeal of a room by adding color, texture, and pattern. They can serve as a focal point or complement existing decor, making them a versatile accessory for any space.
Comfort and Warmth: Rugs provide a soft surface underfoot, adding comfort and warmth to rooms, especially in colder climates. They can also help to insulate floors, improving energy efficiency.
Noise Reduction: Rugs help to absorb sound, reducing noise levels and creating a quieter, more serene environment. This is particularly beneficial in homes with hardwood or tile flooring.
Protection: Rugs protect flooring from wear and tear, scratches, and stains. Placing a rug in high-traffic areas can extend the life of your floors and keep them looking new.
Easy Maintenance: Many rugs are designed to be easy to clean and maintain. Regular vacuuming and spot cleaning can keep your rug looking fresh, while professional cleaning services can handle deeper cleaning when needed.
Choosing the Right Rug
Size and Shape: Consider the size and shape of the room when selecting a rug. Larger rugs work well in spacious areas, while smaller rugs are ideal for cozy nooks or to define specific areas within a room.
Material: Choose a rug material based on your needs and preferences. Natural fibers offer durability and luxury, while synthetic options provide affordability and ease of maintenance.
Color and Pattern: Select colors and patterns that complement your existing decor. Neutral tones and simple patterns are versatile, while bold colors and intricate designs can make a statement.
Placement: Consider where the rug will be placed. Ensure that it fits the intended space and does not obstruct doorways or create tripping hazards. For dining areas, choose a rug that extends beyond the edges of the table to accommodate chairs.
Budget: Rugs come in a wide range of prices, so set a budget that aligns with your needs. High-quality rugs may be more expensive but can offer long-term value and durability.
Conclusion
Rugs are a valuable addition to any home, providing both practical and decorative benefits. In Australia, the diverse selection of rugs allows homeowners to find the perfect piece that suits their style and needs. Whether you opt for a traditional design, a modern pattern, or a custom creation, the right rug can enhance your space, add comfort, and reflect your personal taste. The Ancient Uses of Scaffolds
Tumblr media
Scaffolding has a lengthy history, extending to the roots of large-scale construction in ancient Egypt. When erecting the Great Pyramid of Giza along the Nile, around 2,550 BC, builders employed scaffolding. The ancient Greek historian Herodotus (though living much later in 5th century BC) told of stones being used for building the pyramids “lifted by means of a short wooden scaffold.”
Pictorial depictions on Egyptian reliefs and tombs, dating around 1,500 BC, portray willow branches, sisal, and papyrus being used to tie wooden beams together. The willow branches were soaked for days in order to create a flexible, rope-like material. The wood used might initially have been local trees such as acacia, but ultimately strong, long cedar planks from Lebanon were imported. Wood was at a premium in the arid desert environment, and thus scaffolding was reserved for major temples, statues, and tombs.
As Mediterranean city-states such as Athens arose and grew, scaffolding saw increased use when building residential as well as public buildings. The fifth century BC witnessed the construction of the Parthenon temple on a rocky outcrop, the Acropolis. This required the use of crane scaffolding made of ramps, cranes, and a support scaffolding crafted from wooden posts and beams. Archaeologists posit that the use of cranes as part of the scaffolding system extends to the 7th century BC and the hefting of stone blocks used for Greece’s oldest known stone temples (dedicated to Poseidon at Isthmia and to Apollo at Corinth). Grooves were cut into the sides and bottoms of the blocks, which weighed up to 850 pounds, allowing their hefting via secure ropes and rudimentary lifting devices. Levers were also inserted into holes in the blocks, which enabled their precise and safe positioning. Workers would have been guiding the process of lifting the stone blocks at various levels using scaffolds.
In ancient Rome, amphitheaters, temples, aqueducts, and villas were created using wooden scaffolding. While historical records do not provide many details, the buildings themselves offer clues. A number of ancient Roman buildings still feature scaffolding holes in the masonry. Even where no traces of the building technique remain, the sheer complexity and scale of large Roman buildings suggest that advanced scaffolding was employed. This would have ranged from wooden pole scaffolding to cantilever scaffolding. The latter is employed when there’s no room for platforms at lower levels, or the ground is uneven or soft, and unable to support a scaffolding structure. Needle beams are run into the structure itself, typically anchored by a floor within the building.
For the Colosseum in Rome (then known as the Flavian Amphitheater) builders likely employed trestle scaffolding. This involved the use of tripods or step ladders as support for scaffolding, which could thus only rise a single level. The Pont du Gard aqueduct in today’s southern France also reveals the use of scaffolds in corbels, or stones that protrude from the masonry of the three-level bridge at irregular intervals. These would have enabled the anchoring of scaffolding and falsework (temporary structures for supporting the permanent structure until it is strong enough to support itself). In addition, the large square-cut stone blocks that make up the aqueduct feature numerous holes. These would likely have enabled the fastening and support of the scaffolds.

The Role of Carpets in Transforming Your Living Room
The living room is often considered the heart of a home, a place where family members gather, guests are entertained, and countless memories are made. One essential element that can significantly influence the ambiance and functionality of this space is the carpet. More than just a floor covering, a well-chosen carpet can tie a room together, provide comfort, and even define the room's style. This article explores the various ways carpets can transform your living room, offering tips on selection, maintenance, and trends.
The Aesthetic Impact
A carpet's aesthetic contribution to a living room cannot be overstated. It serves as a foundation for the room's design, influencing the color palette, texture, and overall style. The right carpet color can enhance the room's mood; light-colored carpets make small rooms appear larger and more open, while dark carpets add coziness and warmth. Patterns introduce visual interest and hide stains, making them practical for high-traffic areas. The texture of a carpet adds depth to your living room's decor. Plush carpets create a luxurious feel, while flatweave carpets are more casual and modern. The texture also affects the tactile experience, contributing to the room's comfort level. Carpets come in various styles, from traditional Persian rugs to contemporary geometric designs. Selecting a style that complements your furniture and decor theme can bring cohesion and harmony to the space.
Functional Benefits
Beyond aesthetics, carpets offer numerous functional benefits that enhance the living room experience. Carpets provide a soft surface underfoot, making the living room more comfortable, especially in colder climates. They also contribute to thermal insulation, helping to retain heat in the room. Carpets absorb sound, reducing noise levels and making the living room a quieter, more serene place. This is particularly beneficial in multi-story homes or apartments where noise can travel easily between floors. Carpets offer a non-slip surface, reducing the risk of slips and falls. This makes them an ideal choice for homes with young children or elderly residents.
Choosing the Right Carpet
Selecting the perfect carpet for your living room involves considering several factors to ensure it meets your needs and preferences. Common carpet materials include wool, nylon, polyester, and polypropylene. Wool is durable and natural, nylon is strong and resilient, polyester is soft and stain-resistant, and polypropylene is affordable and easy to clean. The pile height, or thickness of the carpet fibers, affects its feel and durability. Low-pile carpets are easier to clean and better for high-traffic areas, while high-pile carpets offer more comfort and luxury. The size of the carpet should correspond to the living room's dimensions and furniture layout. A common approach is to choose a carpet large enough to fit all the furniture on it or at least the front legs of major pieces. Consider the ease of cleaning and maintaining the carpet. Some materials and colors are more forgiving of stains and dirt, while others may require more regular upkeep.
Trends in Living Room Carpets
Keeping up with current trends can inspire your carpet choice and keep your living room looking fresh and stylish. Eco-friendly carpets made from natural fibers like jute, sisal, and organic wool are gaining popularity as more people prioritize sustainability in their home decor. Geometric patterns, vibrant colors, and abstract designs are becoming more prevalent, allowing homeowners to make a bold statement with their carpets. Layering smaller rugs over a larger carpet or another rug is a trendy way to add texture and dimension to the living room. This approach also allows for more flexibility in changing the room's look.
Maintenance Tips
To keep your carpet looking its best and extend its lifespan, regular maintenance is essential. Frequent vacuuming removes dirt and prevents it from settling into the fibers. Aim to vacuum high-traffic areas several times a week. Address spills and stains immediately to prevent them from becoming permanent. Use appropriate cleaning solutions for your carpet material. Schedule professional carpet cleaning every 12-18 months to remove deep-seated dirt and refresh the carpet's appearance.
Carpets play a pivotal role in defining the look, feel, and functionality of a living room. By carefully selecting a carpet that aligns with your aesthetic preferences and practical needs, you can create a welcoming, comfortable, and stylish space. Whether you opt for a classic Persian rug or a modern geometric design, the right carpet will undoubtedly enhance your living room's overall ambiance and enjoyment.
