I know you're into soda in general but do you have any particular opinion on the 3 gingers (ale, beer, soda)?

I love ginger like, everything, ginger candies, gnawing on the root, etc. Grew up on Canada dry for nausea and flu. I really do like ginger beer as well, the spicier the better, I feel like in terms of gingerol burn the pirate one in the glass bottle is most potent Clears the sinuses. I can't say there's three gingers to me tho cuz I've only had gingerale and ginger beer and I feel like "ginger soda" is just gingerale, although perhaps this is semantics. But yeah I think gingerale is like a cornerstone soda and a health tonic and ginger beer is even better.

I think in regards to the fic, it might really be time for them to move on, but I don’t see Ross and Matty being endgame, maybe for a while, but not forever 😅 Matty will go back to George if things ever get hard with Ross, and I think there’d always be a lot of jealousy. But I’ll still enjoy it while it lasts 😍

When it comes to real life Matty and George, I think that they found an excellent way to spark creativity by bringing in new people and it’s not actually as angst-y, even though it might have been hard. They seem fine with this now, the Tape Notes podcast was amazing and they seemed very in tune and Matty was giving George so much credit, I found it very cute 😊

You don't see Matty and Ross as endgame? Interesting. I do feel like that's a good point re: Matty going back to George if things ever get complicated, but also do you never see him growing up and working through some of his shit, including the George situation? I genuinely wish it upon him 😂

As for IRL Matty and George, they definitely did go through it, fucking hell. I keep bringing this up but please please please, if you haven't, do give the Sodajerker on Songwriting podcast a listen. Genuinely some of the best insight EVER into their creative process, their marriage crisis, and how Jack Antonoff was the unicorn that helped them work through it.

sorry this took so long!! ive been thinking about their designs for a long while

the way i approached them was tackling each of the main edd's theme from a different angle. edd's was soda, which, well, i can't do much with, but in a way eduardo and edd are very similar in a lot of ways so it kind of worked out? still sodajerk themed, although now with glass bottles

matt's theme was magic, so for mark he seemed the kind of guy who would be the "mage" of the group. also, he's probably a homestuck fan, so i took slight inspiration from that

jon was REALLY hard admittingly. i wanted to incorporate some form of death imagery for the longest time because of how funny it is AND how it contrasts to how generally cheery he is. the last remains of it are on his belt. tom's theme was music, and for a while i didn't really know what instrument jon might play. a friend of mine shared that they headcanoned jon to play the double bass, and i was a sucker for it, so revisiting this later with that in mind made it much easier to design a weapon for him

laurel was ALSO hard. i wanted to avoid using purple (matt and mark) and blue (jon and tom), but i still wanted to incorporate those colors in a sense. i tried going for a purple-pink feel, and a much lighter teal. i think it worked out! i like to think laurel has an interest in movies or acting, so, i kind of made her have a director outfit. sorry evil director bingbong

big red letter day is such a crazy one because on the one hand it is just a great album that I love. but on the other hand it opens with sodajerk which is to me an all time perfect song and impossible to follow so I always just get stuck in the sticky tape of playing it over and over again and feeling my aura bursting out of the top of my skull and zhwooming into the sky to connect with astronauts in space and cosmic particles. “Life’s short….put the brain altering songs at the beginning of the album!!” -90s alt rock motto

RIP Richard Sherman, one of my favorite people to listen to talk about music and composing and art; and co-creator of some of the most beautiful and clever music of all time actually ♥️

He was always so happy to talk about his career and the partnership with his brother, their songwriting process, what it was like basically being the Tin Pan Alley guys of Disney. He always showed such enthusiasm for the music and its impact on people. He will be missed.
