1. Miserable Man by David Kushner

I'm not there yet but I want this song to be my reality so bad. rn i'm just a miserable man, who haven't found the home and built something up. I am working on it though and can't wait to get through my misery.

2. The Fall by Lovejoy

writing my wilbur soot fanfic did cost a little bit of my sanity.

I thought I was finished with it by the end of december but I am still fiddling with it, as I continued to write a second part and will do a third bit from other's viewpoints as well. and as I'm barinstorming & writing, I love listening to this song out of habit.

3. Enslaved by Barren Gates, M.I.M.E

aaaaand now this is where we enter our realBenex era. (I still love to call him this)

I am in desperate need of help. I am working on getting to teraphy but until we reach this goal, I am using shit like music to keep me going for a little longer. Benex's EDM playlist is the one that works wonders for now. this song is such a banger, I think it's more than fitting for my current situation; being enslaved.

when it comes to GeorgeNotFound, it is a well known fact: I am a simp.

& as soon as this video crossed my fyp, I watched it almost every day. I stare at this man straight for minutes and I found so much peace in this song that words can not really describe it. (I have no clue about the meaning of the lyrics though!)

5. Still Something by Suriel Hess

the second contender of the list of the songs that came out on jan 7th (a bit of help with that in a form of a playlist). it's a relatable little song about wanting to leave, being in a relationship, where the love is gone and... the whole chaos that comes in this situation. percfect, lovely song.

this is the second time that my insanity arc is feeling too real. actually this song is not making me feel toxic in any way, it really helped me to learn to love myself (mostly my past self, we're still working on current shit) and these lines...

7. Afraid by The Neighbourhood

me and my sister used to have a pact: neither of us was allowed to listen to songs/read books/get into fandoms the others loved. it was silly, it ruined so many great opportunities for the both of us.

now we are alright with exploring stuff and my most recent obsession is the nbhd. afraid, daddy issues and softcore are so much more than simple songs to me because I have a past with them but present me can also find so much more meaning behind the words and the songs themselves.

8. East of Eden by Zella Day

Benex strikes again! I love this song. I spent 3 days hunting for it, trying to get the lyrics from listening to it when someone subbed & waiting for it to start playing randomly. I haven't been happier than when I actually found this song and could start listening to it. it's so so so cool.

9. Destiny by NEFFEX

we meet again, old friend. you won last month (sorry, I checked, it was 2nd place) and there is a reason for that. this song is so much more meaningful to me because of Benex's livestreams. I follow the guy daily and drop a welcome message at the start of every stream I can catch. I hope it makes him a bit happy, as he is the whole point of my existence rn.

oh man. let me tell you about tiktok. this is the place I get my music from. the algorythm is great at showing me special songs I will love from the bottom of my heart. the line "get the fuck away from me" got me and it is so good I can not stop listening.

awfultune’s ‘eden’ Is an Exercise in Healing and Finding Your Self-Worth

Most of the vibrations that form the sound we perceptibly hear so mellifluously are otherwise imperceptible, a flux of chaotic energy ignored and unknown before the physics of our ears suddenly delivers a dose of rhythmic harmony, corresponding emotions to follow. awfultune is no stranger to pulling from that dissonance, unseen and unheard by many, and crafting its absent radiation into concentrated beauty: stories, songs, and cathartic exercises that have immediate effect.

awfultune is the artist moniker of Layla Eden, a self-described raconteur. That wordy definition for a relatable, antidotally luscious songwriter has been a signature in her music since she started seeping tunes via the internet from her home in Upstate New York. The past two years, fueled by the death of her mother and pandemic isolation, have seen a prodigious export of her creative talent, starting with the wondrously poetic layla and because she had more to say, dovetailing into this opus of excellence eden.

eden is layered with excellent, varying tunes, woven together yes, but, also, there isn't one song that can't stand alone as delicious and purposeful (the single “soda” being this author's favorite). The narrative arc of eden embarks on an emotional journey: finding your self-worth, insecure girl looking desperately for love, finding the right emotion with the wrong boy, learning from mistakes, taking the pain from the negative and quarrying from that a positive. These are typical musical tropes but they're delivered by an atypical talent. Delicate and light vocals seem to pull harmony out of awfultune’s nerves, a literal story of transition and honest frustration that is beguilingly beautiful and a bravery that is so hard to surmise.

“I wanted to give listeners a genuine look into my heart and hopefully find a lot to relate to in the process. The album is a nonfiction story following a very insecure girl who is desperate for love and takes you through the highs and lows of her beautiful romances turned nasty breakups. This album holds nothing back; it talks about wanting revenge on those who hurt us, past trauma, sexual assault and more. eden as a whole really focuses on healing. Once we learn to repurpose the negative energy that we often hold internally and exchange it for light and love, only then can we move on,” shares Layla.

It is a wondrous work of depth and sadness, but hopeful by its very process, a production that truly turns “every heartbreak into a lesson.” Stories are meant to neatly reveal of who we are and where we come from, but not everyone can tell their own story immediately. Fear, imposing family, and societal restraints often bind and bookend our own narrative. Yet, every track in eden is an inspiration for our true stories to be dispensed and devoted to. Layla is living proof of what happens when we listen to ourselves and take courage in the pressing choices that are unheard sounds until they are sung loudly.
