#shortstopsocialstopwatch are you ready for the challenge?
Tumblr media
We’re nearing the end of Week 1 of the first #21dayhabit groups and it’s certainly been intense! Week 1 is all about ‘Foundations’; setting up and tweaking basic social media platforms, setting goals and formulating a strategy.
Now, these three elements are probably the biggest, most time-consuming elements of social media when it comes to business, and even though we are only doing them on a basic level to get the ball-rolling, it has definitely been a shock to those taking part. I’m not a complete and utter sadist when it comes to admin though (although those taking part may disagree and I have been ribbed in the past for my love of the almighty spreadsheet...), I’m always on hand to help those who are struggling with the pace and the next few weeks will be a LOT less labour intensive, but for me it’s really important that that first week is as intense as it has been and I wanted to write a blog to explain why.
Social media is by far and away the area of marketing that us small businesses spend the LEAST time on, but yet I’m told time and time again how that, behind word-of-mouth, it is their BIGGEST business generator; not just as a source of new revenue but also as a way to extend customer relationships. Now, we all know that something doesn’t come from nothing without a little hard work, but so-often we expect that to be the case with our social media, or we leave it to the bottom of the list and do it “when we have a chance”. It’s so easy to do, but if we had a jar of pennies in the corner containing the potential revenue you could gain by spending just a little online each day, I’d guarantee that we’d find that time!
But, and it’s a big BUT, just aimlessly posting here and there is the same as playing darts blindfolded. We need structure, we need clear goals and, in order to use our time effectively, we need processes! And those three things require time and energy. However, in business TIME IS MONEY and every minute you spend on those three areas of your social media will be an investment which will save you infinite minutes in the future, maximising your impact whilst minimising your time online... which funnily enough is the tagline for the #21dayhabit.
A quick word about minimising time online (and this is really the crux of this blog post)... we spend MUCH more time online than we realise... the problem is that social media admin is a bit like homework... the minutes we spend on it seem like hours when compared to the minutes we spend on our personal social media...
So I want to set you a challenge: For the next few days time how long you spend on Facebook, set a stopwatch on your phone and every time you reply to a comment on the loo (come on we’ve all done it!!), upload a photo of your lovingly cooked dinner, read a blog post under the duvet in the wee hours, scroll through your news feed whilst in the queue at the checkout... time it!
You’ll be surprised how quickly it all adds up. Then I want you to share your total and I want you to challenge yourself to NOT go on your personal profiles for 3 days and dedicated that same amount of time to your businesses social media for the same 3 days and then I want you to share any difference you’ve noticed in terms of business results.
Now I know this isn’t sustainable forever, and I know that it’s not the same because you can’t concentrate on your business goals and ambitions whilst your on the loo (although I’m sure some of the world’s greatest ideas have probably been generated on the bog!) but it does illustrate a key point: how we value our time. And it also tells us, that if we just juggle or prioritise that time for a short while (like the first week of the #21dayhabit) we can drastically claw it back (and then some) because of those foundations that we have put in place.
So let me know how you get on! Share you results on the pinned post on our Facebook page using the hashtag #shortstopsocialstopwatch and if you’re ready to invest that time into laying those foundations then join us on the next #21dayhabit in April by emailing [email protected]
Disclaimer: Don’t be scared, I’m not the business coach from hell, you won’t get detention for not completing your #21dayhabit homework, help is given if you find the pace of the first week too intense not only from myself but also from the fabulous group of like-minded business people who will be joining you on the course. Motivation, encouragement and support is key to the program! All of the foundations we lay are built on week by week over the 35 days as you grow, develop and master your business’ social media.

Duck, Turkey or Goose? What does your business deserve this Christmas?
Tumblr media
It’s that time of year again; excitement, good food, family, traditions and... business?
As small business owners we are often faced with the ultimate conundrum (or should that be ultimatum?): devote time to nurturing our businesses during a time when client interaction, demand and exposure are possibly at their highest of the year? Or take some hard-earned time off, to fill our cups, nurture our souls and send us into the New Year revitalised?
Here at Short Stop Social we don’t think its fair that things should have to be so black and white at a time of year when they should be red, green, gold and silver. So, we’ve come up with three packages, which serve to babysit your social media, keep your customers and clients engaged and informed, and allow you to strategically promote campaigns over the holidays, without having to miss your turn on trivial pursuit or fore-go that snooze in front of The Queen’s Speech.
Sound like your cup of Eggnog?
Each package includes a comprehensive Skype consultation and Client Profile so we can work with you to make sure the content, strategy and scheduling of your Christmas and New Year campaigns is perfectly delivered. This will also be our chance to get logos, key tag lines and other business branding from you to ensure continuity. The more information and content you can give us the better, although we are happy to write copy on your behalf, so long as you are free to proof-read and sign-off.
As always, our packages can be suitably tweaked and tailored to suit your businesses unique requirements and budget, just get in touch and we’ll work with you to get you something that is a better fit.
(Please note that mail-outs require you to already have a list of authorised subscribers and that our packages do not include set-up of a newsletter subscriber list)
So here are our Three Kings of Social Media Christmas:
Tumblr media
Our most basic package, the Duck includes an initial Skype consultation and client profile and...
Christmas Newsletter - we’ll work with you to showcase all of your festive news, events and offers in one pretty package, to keep your clients following your pages and visiting your blog or website.
Christmas hours/closing mail out - keeping your customers up to date about how to get in touch, what services will remain available, festive well wishes and any other important info.
New Year Mailout - starting the year on the front foot we’ll compose a New Year Mailout for the return to normality, which starts your customer’s year off with you at the top of their inbox.
Plus - advice on how, when and what to post over the holidays.
The Duck package starts at £60
Tumblr media
The perfect small business Holiday Helper, the Turkey includes everything in the Duck package (above) plus...
Festive blog post - We’ll take one of your top Christmas newsletter stories and adapt and add it to your blog or website as a seasonal landing page.
Scheduled posts across strategic social media platforms - we’ll work with you to create a schedule of content which will keep your business profile active, engaging and profitable. We’ll monitor posts and engagement and keep tabs on your most important profiles.
The Turkey package starts at £120
Tumblr media
