Air Canada to stop announcing ‘ladies and gentlemen’ in recognition of gender fluidity. Employees aboard Air Canada flights will no longer greet guests by referring to them as "ladies and gentlemen" or "mesdames et messieurs," which has been typical protocol for years, in an effort to be conscious of gender fluidity. Flight attendants and other staff will not use the language in boarding announcements, and the company instead plans to replace the standard greetings with neutral words, such as "everybody" or "tout le monde." by Carlin Becker October 13, 2019. #genderfluid #genderfluidity #aircanada #canada #gender #genderreveal #genderrevealparty #socialettiquette #brandhubdomains #luxlife #canadá #canada🍁 #aircanadarouge #cheapesttlds #genderequality #genderroles #lgbt #lgbtq🌈 #transgender #transgenderwoman #transgenderman #transgendered #straight #transvestite #genderparty #genderneutral #feminist #feminism #straightgender https://www.instagram.com/p/B3rA_amp4Qj/?igshid=10nz7t90t2571

There is a difference between being shy and introverted in my opinion. You can be shy at times, introverted at other times. Being shy to me means wanting to socialize but being uncertain how to engage. Introversion is a lack of desire to engage socially. Regardless, telling someone they're being "too" quiet doesn't help shy or introverted folks. It makes me feel like I'm under a spotlight with all the attention. If I wanted attention, I'd be talking. It's considerate to try to include someone- if they're showing signs of wanting to engage. Signs could be they're looking at you or your group, they have tried to take part in the conversation, they're lingering awkwardly nearby not doing anything. But if someone is clearly busy doing something else like reading, playing a game, or watching TV, and not paying attention to you- then assume they don't want to be disturbed. I have been sitting quietly reading in a corner and I've had strangers come and harass me and try to draw me out. That is beyond rude behavior to me despite their good intentions. Pay attention to the signs before trying to draw someone out of their shell. #introvertproblems #introvert #introverted #shy #extrovert #socialettiquette #etiquette #dontberude #rude

I never wish to offend, but I am foolishly shy, that I often seem negligent, when I am only kept back by my natural aukwardness. I have frequently thought that I must have been intended by nature to be fond of low company, I am so little at ease among strangers of gentility!
Edward Ferrars in Sense and Sensibility, Chapter XVII, page 69
Austen, Jane. Sense and Sensibility. Claudia L. Johnson. New York: Norton, 2002.
Edward is so honest here regarding his character, it almost feels as if he is speaking his feelings aloud to himself. This passage allows us insight into the way that he views himself as well as his qualities and manner in social circumstances. Because of his fear to offend anyone, he is shy and reserved, which is misinterpreted by people sometimes as disinterest, apathy, or as he terms it, "negligence." This keeps him back from being true to his own character, and thus he dons a mask of his own, although it offers him little comfort and protection when in the company of gentility. This is interesting, as in this moment, in the company of the Dashwood sisters, he allows his mask to slip. Low company held high enough in his regard for him to share a bit of his true thoughts, feelings, as well as his true self. After all, there is no gentleness to be found among the gentility, especially when they are all strangers or acquaintances who you cannot be yourself around.
