hey!!! first off, HUGE congrats on finishing your first novel, that's an incredible feat and you should be unbelievably proud!!!! secondly, I hadn't heard of this podcast before but as a huge fan of both star wars and fan works, I am absolutely putting it on my tbl list right now!!!!
so. this is a great question. and a hard question. and one that I'm probably going to spend way too many words answering, if I know myself at all.
I think this question, in part, depends on what you consider successful and profitable! for me, it's meant being a jack of all trades - a lot of my work has come from being someone who knows how to make a podcast from soup to nuts and from being a person who a lot of people know. you've already done the hard thing: making something. that's your resume, now get the resume out there!
I wish I could give advice about marketing and finding an audience, but honestly it's changed so much since I started out that I hardly know how to find an audience anymore. but the basic approach always stands I think: don't promo, build community. be authentic and enthusiastic, and hang out in online spaces that you're already excited to be in. share your passion with people. clearly you already know how to do that, making a fan podcast!
in terms of getting to know your peers, I always recommend people join the WGA Audio Alliance discord to get to know who else is working in the space and hear about events. I did meet a lot of people at events early on, but unfortunately a lot of those things don't exist anymore (or were one-offs to begin with) or were smaller, invite-only things. if you're in NY, LA, Chicago, or London, there are vibrant AD scenes, so seek those out and go to (or organize!) a meet-up.
knowing your peers is the single most important thing for getting jobs. with the exception of one cold outreach, every job I've ever gotten has been because I met somebody and vibed with them. stay in touch but not too much - don't email your industry contacts all the time, but every 8-18 months, reach out to folks and do a catch up zoom or coffee. but don't network just to network! get to know people whose work you really like. getting to know peers at your same level is just as - if not more - important as networking to those who are further along in success than you.
be incredibly findable. having the facebook page, instagram, etc. is great, but if you're a production company hoping to make money through providing services like producing, directing, writing, etc. (which is primarily how I've made a living - I don't really make money directly from my original podcasts), having a website is a must. if you don't want to pay for squarespace or wix, you can make a website through tumblr and then just buy a url and have it redirect (I wrote about this a bit in my production guide). same deal if you want to be hired as a writer - having a website or some kind of resume is huge. I'm not saying you need to have an instagram detailing your personal life or anything (for me, I get personal about my thoughts on social media, but I never post my family/partner/non-industry friends/etc. some creators have had massive success building mystery (lemony snicket, the team behind midst), but I have no idea how to do that lol
this is already too long, so to summarize: build a community, both in your audience and your colleagues, be very clear and open about the skills you have/services you provide, and, ideally, do a lot of different things that put you in front of a lot of different audiences. try a lot of things and stick with what works.
to speak more on my personal journey, just briefly: 90% of being successful in the art and entertainment industry is luck. I know that people always say that, and it sucks as advice because it's not advice at all, but it is just true. luck and timing. the only way to improve your chances are to make stuff, meet people, and be easily accessible.

Maia was born in Los Angeles when her father was on tour. He almost missed her birth but managed to get home in time. Her father was a guitarist in a popular rock band of the 80's and for most of her childhood Maia has many memories of staying home with her mom while her dad toured. Sometimes they would visit him during his tours and she grew up with the band members. When she was about 10 her father's career had slowed down, the band had broken up and he had no plans to join a new band. Maia's mother grew up in a small town in North Carolina and knew of Briar Ridge. They decided to move the family to North Carolina to raise Maia in a more stable city and household so they moved out there when she was 14.
Maia attended high school in Briar Ridge. And though it was very different than L.A., she still enjoyed the beach town. Maia was always friendly and vivacious and was a cheerleader in high school. When it came time to go to college, she choose to attend University of Southern California. Maia got a degree in marketing, but school wasn't really something she cared too much for. After school, she stayed in L.A. and started her history of bouncing from job to job with no real career.
She did social media for a cosmetics company while doing some small time modeling on the side. After that, she worked at a night club. Maia had money from her parents so working was never really needed. She moved around to different cities for a few years, working odd jobs and traveling on vacations more often than she worked. She lived in New York City, Miami and Chicago after L.A. before finally moving back to Briar Ridge.
When she moved back she started a job at a boutique, then was an assistant to a photographer, and finally she got her job as a bartender at The Golden Hour Beach Bar where she is currently. Maia likes Briar Ridge, she likes the city by the beach and still travels a lot while only working a few days a week.
Maia is a free spirit and vivacious. She's flirty, spontaneous and while spoiled she treats everyone kindly and respectfully. While she has no musical talent herself, she grew up around the music scene and has both family friends established in the music industry and new friends who have made their way into it. Maia has no plans for the future and is more focused on just enjoying life.

Follow the "Leader"
It's no coincidence that many of the bad decisions made by social media companies and very popular products/services we use lately are trying to copy from Elon Musk's decisions on Twitter. The push for subscription services on social media sites that barley give you any benefits (Facebook), verification processes that aren't well thought out or get easily exploited (Gmail), or removing public access to a website's APIs and charging everyone a king's ransom to give them back access (Reddit).
It's disappointing since it's pretty obvious that these decisions were made by strict business men higher up in the company ranks. They're trying to copy what Musk did with Twitter since they believe doing what the richest man is doing guarantees profits and happy customers since EVERYONE loves Elon, right? But all these companies are missing the point that Elon didn't make Twitter, he just bought it while the company was going through financial issues. He hasn't had it for that long, and if these higher ups actually look at the user feed back, a majority of people don't like the changes that were made, and the majority of the people that actually do like the changes are Elon bootlickers, much like the mindset of the higher ups.
You don't find success in copying others. If you do then you're the equivalent of some random (non-cable/satellite) pay TV subscription in Chicago that quickly shuts down within a year or two. You find a gap in the market and fill it or provide a better product that doesn't hinder the customer's experience just for the sake of cheap profits. It's why Cohost and Mastodon exist.
If these companies continue to copy the changes made to Twitter, a website that keeps dying as the months go by, and think that making their services worse so they can make minuscule profits, people are gonna abandon ship and an actual web 3.0 movement that doesn't involve greedy ass sins trying to use outdated technology made in 2008 as an unsustainable and inaccessible method of currency is gonna initiate.
(Maybe we should call it web 3.1. Or Socialism. Whatever works better)
