Okay, in celebration of @wingedarrows​ defeating the Radiance (Congratulations again!!!) I’m finally getting around to finishing this list she requested. None of these have Godmaster content (or if they do, I didn’t know enough to recognize it).

Really sad, really beautifully written, one of the best on this list. (Waiting to read the sequel til I’ve finished Godmaster or given up!)

light under water, Monochrome, Epitaph and a void-cut shape by @rukafais The Seer rescues the Radiance’s enemy; ghosts and living friends comfort the knight. Ruka’s writing is all really excellent; I can’t pick a favorite.

Quirrel's Locations by @soar319 Quirrel explores Hallownest and remembers snatches of the past.

a crown of ash and honey (you shall never wear) by @hallownest Hornet’s childhood. Beautifully written. A favorite.

...Father?... by Nym_P_Seudo A bit unique, but one of my favorites. The Hollow Knight’s POV in first person, and really goes all out imitating the game’s formal/old-fashion speech patterns. The most I have seen anyone do with the Great Knights, especially Ogrim, and I love what the author’s done with Isma, too.

Void Children: Little Slices of Life Edition by @peculiurperennial No one dies. Ghost has three more younger siblings to take care of. Hornet gets annoyed at Grimmchild and gives him timeout in a kitchen cabinet. Ghost grows up. There are giant moles. (Well, maybe normal-sized, but you get the idea.) Some moments of peril but generally a happy au. Doesn’t touch on godmaster until the sequel, which I’m waiting to read.

AU/Ask Blogs

@empy-caelumgardens  Children Adventure AU featuring Hornet, Quirrel, the Hollow Knight, and Ghost running around as kids. Heartwarming but hints of angst to come.

@vessel-of-hallownest  Post-canon ask blog/comic, the Hollow Knight and Ghost both survive.

It's even worse when you finish a side quest but then forget to take the pin off and now a pin that means absolutely nothing joins the chaos.

I mean it makes sense why knight is disorganized, they're pratically a child with one main quest to which they focus on (of course unless you like doing sidequests, if so good luck).

i adored sidequests, ended w/ 108% before i even touched the hollow knight 

i would say that theyre definitely more visual based on the lil doodles for the more prominent areas of the map (ancestral mounds, statues, stations, etc.) it could also be that they dont know how to write so slap pins and badges down instead

but also there are so many curious things about hallownest well fuck what was that pin for again

The original! The beginning! The fic that dragged me into this fandom like a mother cat holding her kitten by the scruff kjshdf Hornet’s characterization in this is some of my favorite (and a constant inspiration!) and her growth throughout has been so enjoyable to watch. If you like postgame fics and Hornet and the characterization of npcs that most people don’t pay as much attention to then please read this fic please you won’t regret it im begging y-

do you love quirrel?? who doesn’t. too bad he doesn’t love himself as much as he should, and thats why in this fic he gets checked into therapy! wait, that doesn’t happen? Actually he gets rescued by lemm and so far it’s looking like it’s on the up and up for our boy! (or at least I really hope so) but this fic is just, superb! it’s wonderful! The characterization is great, there’s a lot of in-character humor to balance out the sad and sweet-melancholic scene and in general i just, really *really* enjoy lemm’s interactions with quirrel

oh,,god,,, im crying,, i’m always crying so much,  this fic turns me into an emotional smoothie but also every time I read it i’m consumed by rich dialogue and an incredibly in depth look at pre-fall hallownest that I’m constantly surprised and enamored by,, This might be my favorite portrayal of the Great Knights too, Ogrim, Isma, Dryya, Hegemol,,,,they’ve all got such interesting and detailed and well-thought out actions and beliefs. (also have I mentioned i love this portrayal of Lurien? if you like this fic then please read A Watcher's Duty too /vibrates into the next dimension/

The [REDACTED] and the way Lurien sees [REDACTED] (im so sorry i just dont wanna spoil this fic if you haven’t read it its gorgeous and lovingly crafted and i’ve reread it so many times i ts ,, /heart eyes/

Have I mentioned I love Lurien yet? Yes? Well you get to hear it again! There’s not nearly enough works where he gets to interact with others in a soft and endearing way and this fic gets it in one go. Anyways if you love cure interactions and Lurien looking after a Small Vessel uhh pwease reade
