Vanessa Marcil Opens up About Returning to GENERAL HOSPITAL

It’s been a decade since we’ve seen Brenda in Port Charles but many fans would still love to see Vanessa Marcil return to GENERAL HOSPITAL to reprise the role once more. So when the popular actress did a live Zoom chat with fans through Coastal Entertainment on Feb. 10, naturally the question of whether or not she would come back again came up!

“My gosh,” Marcil admitted, as transcribed by SoapHub, “well, you know, I will eventually. Like, there’s no way that it won’t happen. You know, I hate to even say the thing, so I won’t say the thing, but it’ll happen eventually.”

Marcil’s big break came when she was cast as Brenda Barrett on GH back in 1992 and launched her career in show business which led to multiple roles in film and television. “I wouldn’t have a career, [my family] wouldn’t have the beautiful lives we have if they hadn’t given me my first shot there, so I’ll always honor where I came from,” she declared. “But in addition to that, I just love that character so much. She’s such a multilayered, incredible character that I think was very ahead of her time.”

Plus, the actress would love the chance to once again share the screen with her dear friend Maurice Benard (Sonny). “The fact that Maurice is always still there,” Marcil admitted, “makes it a no-brainer because I couldn’t go back and work opposite a Sonny recast or some of these crazy things that happened to some characters.”

Marcil has popped back into Port Charles for the occasional visit, earning three Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Supporting Actress for her work over the years and taking home the trophy in 2003. The last time she reprised the role of Brenda was back in 2013 for GH’s 50th anniversary, so it would be perfect if she came back to the soap for its 60th this year. While another return doesn’t currently appear to be in the cards, in the world of soaps you never know what might happen!

Simon liked to think that he had everything under control. That he could get himself out of any situation he found himself in, no matter how crazy it was. Unfortunately for him, he hadn’t bargained for being thrust against his will into a completely unfamiliar scenario.

But that certainly didn’t stop him from trying to get it under control as quickly as possible, starting with the most obvious problem: He didn’t know anything about his current location. It wasn’t uncommon for him and Grace to encounter unfamiliar cars on the train, but at least there they knew there was a common set of rules the entire train would follow.

In that sense, being sent further back on the train hadn’t been a big deal. The cars weren’t familiar to them, but they still more or less knew what to expect. The biggest hurdle had just been getting back to the rest of the Apex, considering they had been sent nearly fifty cars away.

But being sent off the train entirely? That was a much bigger problem.

He was determined, though, that he was not going to let himself be blindsided by anything else beyond what had already happened. Which meant getting familiar with the situation he was now in. And so, he found himself wandering the streets of Skysreach City.

Still walking, he took a moment to glance down at his number tracker. If Grace- or any other passengers from the train- were around, surely they would show up on it? He still had his number, so there was no reason to think that they wouldn’t also.

But, as far as he could see, there was nobody else registering on the tracker anywhere nearby. Giving an exasperated sigh, he looked up from the device just in time to narrowly avoid walking right into someone.

Swerving to the side, he stopped, and blinked twice.

“Sorry,” He apologized, though his tone came off as more surprised than apologetic. “I wasn’t paying attention. ...Do you live here?” His hope was to come across someone that had been there longer than he had.

Any source of information was fine by him for the time being. If he felt like he needed to fact check it, he could always do that later. As long as he had some idea of how things worked in the city.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe might be on a hiatus right now, given the delay of Black Widow until November 2020. However, rest assured, true believers, the MCU will be back in a big way in the next few years. Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has already announced a line-up consisting of interconnected films and Disney+ shows.

But a new analysis reveals which movies Disney+ subscribers are most interested in. And the results could bode well for what Marvel Studios has planned for the upcoming Phase 4 slate.

Marvel enters fresh territory with Phase 4

With the original Avengers line-up either already out or heading for the exit, the MCU needs to do a bit of resetting to remain sustainable. After all, the franchise took more than 20 films to build to the universe-ending stakes of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. After all that devastation, audiences and their favorite heroes need a breather.

Thankfully, now the last two Avengers films have brought all the heroes together. So it won’t take much for them to cross paths or team up again in a future film. With Fox now under Disney ownership, it’s only a matter of time before another iconic Marvel supervillain — such as Doctor Doom or Galactus — poses an Avengers-level threat.

In the meantime, Phase 4 of the MCU is determined to build up its existing heroes and, once again, expand the world to include a few new additions. Characters like Shang-Chi, the Eternals, Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk will all join the MCU in the next few years. But several key characters will need to take leadership roles to hold the franchise together.

The most popular Marvel content says a lot

One of the most important heroes going forward will be Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch). The character played a critical role in helping Earth’s Mightiest Heroes triumph over Thanos in Avengers: Endgame. So Marvel Studios will be relieved to know the Sorcerer Supreme is among the most popular heroes on Disney+ right now.

According to the new report by Soaphub— which ranks by average monthly search volume — 2016’s Doctor Strange is actually the third most popular Marvel movie currently on Disney+. That film, directed by Scott Derrickson, introduced the character into the MCU. And the upcoming sequel — 2021’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness — will reportedly make a major impact on the MCU’s future.

Only Iron Man and Avengers: Endgame — which has a significant lead — are more popular than Doctor Strange. As far as MCU heroes, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) remains on top, followed by Doctor Strange himself. Then, Vision (Paul Bettany) sits in third, a good sign of fan interest given his role in Disney+ series WandaVision. Likewise, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) — another future lead of a Disney+ series — is easily the most popular villain.

But Ant-Man, Hulk, and Hawkeye aren’t getting much support

On the other side of things, several key Marvel characters who are set for big returns in the next few years are far less popular. Despite appearing in Avengers: Endgame, Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) hasn’t gotten much of a boost. In a way, that makes sense, as his solo series is the MCU’s least successful. But it isn’t a good sign for excitement over the upcoming Ant-Man 3.

Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Hulk (Mark Ruffalo) are also some of the least searched-for heroes in the MCU. The upcoming Disney+ series Hawkeye is expected to see Renner transition out of the MCU. And Ruffalo is reportedly close to securing a role in She-Hulk. Beyond those shows, fans don’t know where those heroes may show up in the MCU if they do at all.

Those who are talking shit about Wilson and Sonny can stop. Like, it’s fine that you don’t like them or Sonny, that is your opinion and you have all right to have it, but for example what is going on on SoapHub and seeing people say stuff like “Sonny dosen’t care about Paul at all”, and says Paul is better because “he is more good looking than Sonny” is really annoying me. It’s obvious that Sonny cares about Paul, this has been made clear several times, and looks have nothing to do with it, or who you think looks better, or whatever. And yes it is true that Sonny dumped Paul for Will when he was told he could be alive, and yes that must have felt horrible for Paul, I can’t even imagine, but..what did you expect? Will is Sonny’s life-long partner. His true love. Would you rather want him to stay and lie and pretend to Paul like Will intends to do now? I would rather be dumped immediately than figuring out that I have been lied to and that my partner didn’t feel like I thought they did. Even Chandler said that he believes Wilson is endgame, that it would just take time. My other point is the writers. They have always pushed Paul into Sonny and Will’s story. He has been a placeholder, a replacement, and been through horrible things. It would have been so much better if they had decided to give Paul a story for himself, and true love, just like what Will and Sonny has. It would have been amazing! But no, they have to use him to cause drama between Willson, and then give him the short end of the stick. The thing is: It dosen’t matter if he is in a relationship with either Sonny or Will, he will always get hurt, because Will and Sonny will always get back together. So it would have saved him a lot of hurt if there had been someone who he could fall in love with, and be happy with. He is such an incredible character, and I love him, but I don’t want him with neither Will or Sonny, because Wilson is endgame. No matter what, those who Sonny and Will are in a relationship with in the meantime, will get their hearts broken. Unfortunatly the writers intend to make Paul the one to get heartbroken every single time.

Just read an article about Willow and how problematic her character and this never ending cancer storyline is. It laid it out so well. This storyline has been so bad that it’s almost comical how bad it is at this point. Like the article said when you start rooting for the cancer than Houston we have a problem. It talked about the Benson cult, how not one gave a damn about Liesl being in danger, only that she’s not able to help Willow. Then there’s the whole Nina situation. Are these writers tryna set them up as future villains? Cause chile…

This article by soaphub makes some really good points about the Oscar storyline. I did find it odd that when Kim and Oscar were first introduced she was sort of an absent parent to him. Remember how Carly kept wanting to meet her and she was always too busy? She was always working, he got to roam around town unattended, and she was okay with him just shooting her a text saying where he was given that he could have a seizure at any moment. Then all of a sudden the last couple months or so she turned into a helicopter parent
